Welcome back to Hair It Ferst, where today’s episode is brought to you by technical difficulties, questionable microphones, and the sheer determination to hit “record” anyway.
This week, the girls attempt to record an episode while computers malfunction, microphones crackle, Tessa turns into a robot, then a chipmunk, Monica’s microphone is literally just for decoration, and Michelle’s laptop somehow makes her look fantastic. 😂
They also talk about Monica’s disastrous concert power outage, old-school country music, and the girls’ bold new commitment to cleaning up their language… which immediately becomes one of the hardest things they’ve ever attempted.
And just when you think they’ve finally solved the audio problems, Tessa pulls out a karaoke microphone.
Because of course she does.

SPEAKER_00Hello and good morning. Welcome back to Hair First Podcast. If you are a first-time listener, thanks for joining us. Uh we have many adventures on this podcast. If you are a returning listener, thank you for your support this far. And hello and good morning, Monica and Michelle. How are you today?
SPEAKER_03I'm good. I mean, I feel like this is par for the course, Monica, because what's happening is what's happened all morning. You know what I mean? So I think we should just roll with it because we're gonna talk about technical difficulties today.
SPEAKER_00Are things not well with on my end here? Okay. Well, okay, I mean well, we are having the craziest morning with our headphones, with our computers, with all of our things. Sometimes, if you just see my mouth moving and then the words come later, just just bear with us. It's cool.
SPEAKER_03And if you could see Monica's face, because she knows more about all of this than Tessa and I, and Tessa and I are the ones having problems, and I think she wants to kill us. Okay, so it is early morning when we're filming, and I got all of my stuff ready last night because I I people are like, Don't say you're not good at something. You guys don't understand. Like, even when I have people help me, they'll be like, This has never happened before. This has never happened before. I'm like, yeah, it's because you're trying to help me, and my energy doesn't work with whatever the energy is in computers or anything. So I had to get my husband out of bed, he had to get his work computer out. So I here I am, and they had to record one without me. It is what it is.
SPEAKER_01And now, Tessa, if you hear her and she sounds like a robot or she's you know in a 10-foot pole somewhere, that's why. So the only one this morning that has their life together is me, and that's saying something because 35 seconds ago, I was telling my kids to go get their breakfast bars and eat them in my bed. I'm like, just go get your chocolate chip thing and go sit in the bed. I don't care what you like, but but we're not allowed to eat in your bed. I understand that, I know that, but today's a sheet clean day, so I don't really care. Go get in bed, and then you know, we've had to, you know, we weren't planning on recording till later, and then we've moved it to the morning, and then I have to go to the salon. I got the cleaning lady coming. So if you think that for one second, the three of us hang together ever, just so you know, we don't. Who knows?
SPEAKER_00Can I just say something? I'm pretty sure if we have listeners that have um been with us at the beginning, not one they are not playing I dream of genie. They are telling me that something is not working.
SPEAKER_03So if you're not watching us, Monica came up with a signal. If we touch our noses, that means that Tessa's audio is not working. So if you're not watching, we just keep touching our noses.
SPEAKER_00And I have tears rolling down my face. You're making my my nose itch by watching you guys do that. What is this like? That's better.
SPEAKER_03I'm so so you guys listening. We we need a well, I think I need a new computer, so any donations would be helpful.
SPEAKER_00We are now taking planning on that for Michelle's new computer and on the I also keep one. I don't know. It was after we traveled that everything. I I don't know if we what happened to our equipment when we traveled, maybe. Because we had to I oh yeah, um glow con, you know.
SPEAKER_04What can you guys?
SPEAKER_03This is the other thing that's going on. We have a special needs daughter, and you know, so she makes noises. Can you guys even hear her in the background? Because she's getting a bath right now, so she's just like clapping and making all kinds of noise. That's so sweet. Yeah, she's sweet. But I'm like, well, if you hear that, that's what that is. We are not torturing anybody, I promise.
SPEAKER_01Listen, she's just living her very best life. Okay. She is. No beat it. Uh your sound is better. Your sound is better. Talking about living your best life. So we have a state fair that's in Delaware. It's called the Harrington, Delaware State Fair, and they have concerts there.
SPEAKER_03So I read your post.
SPEAKER_01So I took my girls to their very first ever concert. Bailey Zimmerman, they love him, they want to see him. I saw him at Country Callings, and he was by far the best person that played there. He was my favorite concert of all. Um, we got two and a half songs before the power went out to the fairs. I guess somebody hit a transformer. Oh no. And the whole concert stopped.
SPEAKER_03Okay, I have a question.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_03So then I went down the rabbit hole, right? Because I'm like, what is Monica talking about? So I went down the rabbit hole and I see this guy announcing on a PA. Why didn't he just grab his freaking guitar and sit on a stool and play like he did back in the day?
SPEAKER_01Yep. That's what everybody said. And if for anybody that's the like of up in the like upper people that make these decisions, would have thought he wouldn't have done that. He literally had his, and I will say this about him. He, I mean, there was like 45 minutes where we didn't really know what was going on, whether it was going to come back on or not. He grabbed his guitar, he sat out on the main stage, he was playing, he was signing autographs. Like he was phenomenal. If you were in the pit, it was probably the best thing that ever happened to you because he was passing out gum, he was like, you know, singing songs for people, the crowd like jumped in. So like a hundred percent, he would have 100% grabbed that microphone from the PA and been like, let's just let's just sing a couple more songs. Right. He's phenomenal, he has so much energy. But the next day, so there's concerts every night. So I ended up going back on Friday. Do you guys know Tracy Lawrence and like Aaron? Yes, and Sammy Kershaw. So they played yeah, they played um Friday night. Well, my friends and I, we're a bunch of old souls. Like, my friends. You're kidding me.
SPEAKER_03No, but we know you are.
SPEAKER_01My girls when they were little thought that Conway Twenty was new. They wanted to go see Conway Twenty. And I'm like, baby, he has long since passed. You you're not gonna see Conway Twinny. Um a bunch of my friends and I went to the Tracy Lawrence concert. Um, Sammy Kershaw wasn't feeling well, so he didn't perform. He was his voice was pretty much gone, but he came out on stage and like talked. Well, my my uh two of my best friends, they brought their grandmother. That woman was living her best life. Uh my mom Linda was getting it. Tracy was singing, she was dancing, and then oh my gosh, it was absolutely great. But the guy next to me was like, Your mom is living her life, and I was like, She's living her best life. You don't worry about what she's doing. She's got her McClub Ultra in hand. She is singing, paint me a bourbon hand, and she is living her best life. That's the it was so, it was so much fun. But yes, we're we're old souls, like love that we were raised on country music, and we were raised on like not that new country is not good music, because I do love new country, but I love me some old country. Love me some old country. I love old country, I just don't love the new country.
SPEAKER_03I don't love country music when they put it on at the salon, I'm just like, oh my god, yeah, I struggle.
SPEAKER_00I mean, most of the time I've got mine on 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, alternative, all that kind of stuff. But if, you know, one of the older Johnny Cash and things like that come on and like, yeah, I like this too, but I'm like you, Michelle. I don't work listening to it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I just I struggle. And then the the stations that they pick, it is seriously the same 20 songs. So if you're there for 10 hours, oh my god, I'm like, seriously, you guys, we've heard this eight times now. Can could we switch the station, please?
SPEAKER_01I agree with that. I do think they play like the same, the same 20 or 30 songs over and over. Like if you do like the satellite radio, like the serious radio, yeah, that's like the highway. It's the same, it's the same songs. I in the car, we listen to like my playlist is all over the place. All over the place. We've got um like Conway Twitty, and the next song might be Jesse Murph, or it might be Bail Money by um Queen something. She's my new. She's like country and rap and alternative, all in the same person. It's that sounds fun.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I don't even have a playlist. I don't think I know how to make one. That's how bad I am.
SPEAKER_00I don't know how to make a playlist. I don't have a playlist. I turn on my girl, there's I've gotten on Pandora, and that's that's how I roll.
SPEAKER_01She's called Queen Butterfly. Look at her.
SPEAKER_00Oh fantastic. I'm gonna look her up.
SPEAKER_01Look her up. Um, I will tell you, there's two songs that are my jam right now. One is called Bail Money, and one is Your Mama Raised U B-word. And they are top top tier. Top tier. Nice. Top tier.
SPEAKER_00But um, yeah, you just said B word, so we might as well make this announcement right now. We have decided that we are going to try to clean up our language on the podcast. And we just want to apologize if we have ever offended anyone with our mouth. Son of a this is why I cuss. This is why I this is why I cuss. Normally, normally I would have thrown an FCOM out there, but look at me growing.
SPEAKER_01All right, so I'm gonna say it for Tessa in case you didn't catch her jargled whatever words she was trying to say. Um, the three of us have made the executive decision that we are going to try to clean up our language. We saw our rating and we are explicit. And that is not the vibe we want to put out there. Having said that, we are still not a podcast for your children to listen to. Correct. Regardless, because some of the topics that we talk about are a hundred percent not okay for your children to listen to. Um, but we are trying to clean up our language. And actually, um, Craig and I had this conversation Friday, Saturday night. I don't even know, Saturday night, because I was at a concert Friday night, how we at home are gonna try to clean up our language too. Because we are, I mean, like we just say it. Like it just rolls off our tongue. So we are I am trying in my professional life and in my personal life to clean up my language because my babies are getting older and I don't want them to repeat things that I say.
SPEAKER_00Can I just say though, there's nothing cuter than when the little kid says uh throws out cuss words every now and then? It's hilarious. We can't, we're not supposed to laugh at it, but it is kind of funny.
SPEAKER_03When it's not your kid, it's hilarious.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah. When it's your kid, you're mortified. Oh yeah, just mortified. We are still going to be ourselves because Parrot First really is it, it is our podcast. We want to still be genuine. We just are going to try to clean up our language a little bit. But like Monica said, still not for children. Um and I'm sure we're gonna slip here and there.
SPEAKER_01I can promise you we're gonna slip. Yeah. Because we're not perfect. Yeah. If you're looking for three- I bet you it's not me.
SPEAKER_03I bet you it's one of these two.
SPEAKER_01I bet you it's Tessa. Queen of the F bomb.

SPEAKER_01I was gonna say the person who says the F word more than any of us.
SPEAKER_00Nice try.
SPEAKER_01But Michelle beats me at that. She does beat you. But I'm gonna say it if you don't get your gosh darn thing to stop crackling in my ears.
SPEAKER_00This is really testing testing out the waters of tussing.
SPEAKER_03Like what? We've got a problem solve. What I mean, did you unplug things and plug them back in? Should you get off the link?
SPEAKER_01Yes, we have literally done everything today, this morning.
SPEAKER_03I can tell you what, whatever Mike's got on this, his camera is making me look good. So I don't know if he's got a filter on this or what, but I look so much better on his laptop.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna say you look so cute anyway. Yeah. So my technical difficulties for um today, I'm not actually using my microphone. You know why? Because that makes me feel better. My attachment stayed in Dallas.
SPEAKER_00So I've got one ordered, but I think that's how this is just for show.
SPEAKER_03What are you saying, Tessa? Your lips are moving, but nothing's coming out of your mouth.
SPEAKER_01Oh my lord. I thank gosh.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01God grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can and the wisdom to know the difference. Can you hear me?
SPEAKER_03Correct, I wish I could imitate that. I can't. I mean, if I had a piece of paper and just went like this with it, that's what it sounds like.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03She's having a fit right now, just so you know.
SPEAKER_00Because I can't cuss. I know. Because I can cuss. So proud of you. I would I would not. How's that? No, that's better. You know what I think? Yeah, that's better. We traveled to Dallas with the microphone with all of my equipment. And I'm wondering, because we haven't recorded since then. I'm wondering if something didn't get messed up in the the traveling. So what are you using now? Just your computer microphone? No, now I'm using my microphone. Well, don't.
SPEAKER_03And it's almost speeding it up and making you sound like a chipmunk. Like Alvin and the chipmunk. It's the craziest sound. Wait until you hear it.
SPEAKER_00I know a few Alvin and the chipmunk. Oh, yeah. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So she just picked up her karaoke microphone. If you have not seen her serenade Adam the whole way to Dallas, and I'm talking the whole way to Dallas until Sony Music sent her message and told her that she couldn't do it anymore. Um, yeah, go to her Facebook page, Tessa Mel, and watch. Just watch. Because she changes hairstyles. She is living her very best life.
SPEAKER_03And now you're echoing. Oh, much better.
SPEAKER_00That's great.
SPEAKER_03Let's just film without our headphones and just do it with no microphone. Let's just do that. Why can't we do that our next one?
SPEAKER_01Okay. Yeah, that's fine with me. Why not? Which will be great because I have to go sit outside because our cleaned lady's coming.
SPEAKER_03Well, on that note, I think we should call this one a wrap.

SPEAKER_01Okay, so I'm gonna do our closing today because Tessa is going to lose the hair that she has in her head. Left, which she didn't, but 10 inches she didn't cut off. There is technical difficulties in every facet. There is things that don't go the way that you anticipate them going. So you just pick up your pick up your bootstrings and continue to move forward.
