What if the real change starts the moment we stop asking, “What am I giving up?” and start asking, “What am I making space for?” We open up about how sobriety shifted from a lifestyle choice to an act of worship—and how that simple reframe cleared the static in our relationship with God.
We trace the journey from feeling deprived to discovering deeper gain: clearer prayer, scripture that lands with weight, and a steadier sense of God’s presence in the small corners of the day. Anchored in 1 Corinthians 6:19–20, we explore what it means to honor our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit and why that identity turns self-control into sacred stewardship. Along the way, we share honest moments—where alcohol once blurred connection, how quiet times sharpened without it, and the many subtle signs that started showing up when space was finally made: timely words, a gentle nudge, a calmer mind.
You’ll hear practical ways to start small and sacred: treat even one sober night as worship, pray short prayers that re-center attention, and replace the “buzz” with rituals that actually satisfy—sleep, presence, and peace. Whether you drink occasionally or not at all, this conversation invites a thoughtful reset: say no to the temporary and yes to the presence that heals, steadies, and frees. If you’ve been craving clarity, consider this your invitation to make room.
If this resonates, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs encouragement, and leave a quick review to help others find these conversations. Then tell us: what are you making space for this week?
Sobriety Reframed as Worship
SPEAKER_00Sobriety isn't just about saying no to alcohol. It's about saying yes to God. It's about clearing away the noise and making room for his spirit. For me, sobriety has become more than a lifestyle. It's a spiritual practice. It's part of who I am in Christ now. I realized that when I stopped drinking, the communication with God, that line, it completely cleared up. I had been just causing my relationship with God to be sporadic and unable to grow very much because of
Your Body as a Temple
SPEAKER_00the alcohol. 1 Corinthians 6, 19 through 20 says, Don't you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God brought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. When we honor God with our bodies and our choices, we invite Him and His Spirit to fill us in ways that alcohol never can.
From Deprivation to Deep Gain
SPEAKER_00I used to see sobriety as a deprivation, like I was missing out on something. But as I walked through this journey, slowly but surely and totally imperfectly, I began to realize that I wasn't missing out on anything. I was actually gaining so much more of the good stuff of life, of the presence of the spirit, of the healing, of the freedom. Even though maybe there were things that I feel like I lost, they were nothing compared to what I was gaining. My quiet times with God became more clear. The way I read the Bible began to impact me more. My prayers and my connection with God became so much deeper. I felt his presence in my life in a way that I never did when alcohol was
Make Space for the Spirit
SPEAKER_00in the way. I began to see the little signs, to hear his still small voice in the moments when I needed it, to see the face of God and the people I walked by or the moments that I had or the music that was playing, everything became more clear. It was like becoming on like a different spiritual plane almost. Sobriety has become not just about my health, but about my worship and my relationship with God. So whether you drink sometimes or not at all, you can reframe the conversation. Instead of asking, what am I giving up? Ask, what am I making space for? Sobriety creates room. It creates room for God's spirit to work in your life. It creates room for you to see what he's doing in the world around you. And it's far more satisfying to live this way than to catch a temporary buzz that leaves you
A Prayer for Freedom
SPEAKER_00regretful. This week, treat your decision to stop drinking even just for a night. Treat it as an act of worship. Ask God to show you what he's going to fill your life with. When you say no to a drink, you say yes to God in your heart. You say, Lord, I'm choosing you instead. I'm choosing freedom. I'm choosing life instead. Now it doesn't always feel 100% wonderful right away, but you have to believe that God is working through this. Let that small choice remind you each time that your body and your spirit belong to God and He has something better for you. Let's pray. Holy Spirit, thank you for living in us. Forgive us for the times we've crowded you out with things that don't satisfy. Teach us to honor you with our choices in our bodies and our lives. Let our sobriety or even our choice to make a step toward it be an act of worship to you in Jesus' name. Amen.
