Good morning, Moonhaven Falls! Victory! Absolute resounding victory! This is Audric Kashmir for the Crystal Network, and I am pleased to announce that I am once more sitting in my comfortable chair behind my desk in a room that has been fully restored. The Moonhaven Phantom has been unmasked, and it turns out his greatest weakness was the same as mine. A love for the spotlight. Hats off to Alara Vancroft, in a stroke of absolute tactical brilliant intuition, she realized the thief was targeting famous landmarks and people to generate the biggest headlines. So, two nights ago, the guard set a trap. They didn't guard the jewelry store. They didn't guard the mayor's house, no no. They staked out my home, and sure enough, two o'clock in the morning, a shadow descended from the sky. Not a bird, not a ghost, but a man. Using a ring of featherfall to drift down from the cliffs above a Bahamas plateau. He had been jumping off the heights of the falls, gliding over our heads, while we were all watching the bridges. He would land silently on the rooftops, do his shopping, and then, and this is the clever bit, load everything into a small skiff hidden in the rocks downstream. He had a safe house about a mile and a half downriver where he'd hide the loot, and then row back to Moonhaven the next morning, posing as a fisherman coming to market. Oh, he was caught red handed trying to lift my favorite silver tea set, actually apologized. He claimed he just wanted to see if he could beat the falls. Well, he beat the falls, but he did not beat Alara. The thief has confessed, the guard has already recovered the mare's buttons, Alara's robes, and yes, my velvet curtains. Now Alara Vancroft has informed me that she is working with Alara Meadowlight to commission a dome of deflection. It's not up yet, but soon. Soon a magical veil will cover the town, and anyone trying to uh base jump into our streets will find themselves gently slid through the air and deposited right into the holding cells at the bridge junction. So, have a wonderful day, Moonhaven. The sky is being closed, the bridges remain secure, and the Phantom is currently learning how to clip buttons in a jail cell. This is Audrey Cashmere with the Crystal Network.
SPEAKER_02Greetings, seekers of destiny, and welcome once more to the Arcane Whispers of Ilara Meadowlight. Eighteen days have been joined to the rota of fortune, carried on the gentle currents of fate, since the vibrant, empowered rainbow began its glowing arc over Moonhaven Falls, a testament to the stable magic now flowing through our land. Twenty-eight weeks now stand between us and the Phoenix's initial fiery ascent, a journey of wonder and profound change. Today, however, the very sky above Moonhaven has delivered an omen of immense power. A creature born of storm and spirit. For a lone trapper, venturing deep into the foothills of the dragon tooth mountains, has returned with a tale that chills and aws in equal measure. A thunderbird was sighted, soaring majestically through the clouds, its colossal wings beating like thunder, lightning crackling in its wake, though no storm gathered. It was a brief, breathtaking vision of raw, elemental power, a creature of myth made manifest. The Thunderbird is a herald of monumental change, a bringer of powerful storms and profound renewal, a protector born of the very sky itself. Its appearance now, after the stabilizing magic of the rainbow, suggests that the great forces stirring are finding their ultimate, untamed expression, and that destiny may demand a mighty and elemental response. A special note on the Thunderbird sighting. The sighting of a Thunderbird is an omen of unleashed, raw elemental power, inevitable and sweeping change, and a call for profound courage in the face of nature's might. Where the rainbow signifies a stable magic. The Thunderbird is its wild and untamed counterpart, a force that purifies and transforms. For all, this signifies a period where forces beyond ordinary control will make their presence known, demanding adaptation, courage, and perhaps a recognition of the inherent power within creation itself. Be prepared to face the awe-inspiring and the challenging. For those of you born under the sign of the whispering willow, that is mid-spring to early summer, the Thunderbird's form purifies your growth, urging you to root deeply against monumental and cleansing change. The immense power heralded by the Thunderbird indicates that your personal growth, nurtured by the fall's magic and the rainbow's harmony, will now undergo a profound and cleansing test. This is a time when old patterns may be swept away by forces beyond your control, making way for the truly robust new growth. Embrace the challenge. For, like trees bending in a storm, your resilience will be tested and strengthened, leaving you more rooted and powerful than before. The murmuring of the Moonhaven Falls now sounds like a distant but resonant thunder, advising you to find your stillness amidst great change. A piece of storm-weathered wood or a plant thriving in an exposed, challenging environment, could well be a token of your enduring spirit. For those of you born under the sign of the soaring griffon, that is, late summer to early autumn, the Thunderbird calls for leadership that can command the elements themselves, guiding through a powerful, transformative storm. For you, the Thunderbird is a clear omen that your leadership and ambition will now contend with forces of elemental and untamed power. Your strategic mind, honed by the Nara's clarity, must now navigate a period of intense, possibly even volatile change. This is a time to stand firm, to protect your people from the gathering storm, and to learn how to channel those vast energies rather than simply opposing them. Your ascent will be defined by your ability to guide through the chaos and to harness the raw power of destiny itself. The distant roar of the falls now echoes with a commanding, forthright might, advising you to lead with an unwavering resolve and a clear voice amidst the tempest. A shard of crystal that seems to hum with an internal static or a symbol of a guiding lightning bolt could signify your newfound command. For those of you born under the sign of the deepening mire, that is, mid-autumnum to early winter, the Thunderbird's flash illuminates the deepest of truths, revealing the raw elemental core of all existence. The profound truths that you have been uncovering, now made vibrant by the fall's magic, are about to be laid bare by the Thunderbird's overwhelming force. This is a time when the deepest, most primal realities will be revealed. Perhaps through a sudden shocking insight or or even an undeniable confrontation with a primal truth. You may be called upon to confront the untamed aspects of existence, finding wisdom not in stillness, but in the heart of the storm. Embrace that power of revelation, for it is through this elemental clearing that the absolute truth emerges. The slow and persistent trickle of the falls now seems to revibrate with an ancient raw power, reminding you that true understanding can be forged in the crucible of surrounding elemental forces. A piece of lightning-scarred stone or a dark feather infused with raw energy could be the key to profound and primal insight. For those of you born under the sign of the frozen hearth, that is, late winter to early spring, the Thunderbird reaffirms your rebirth, unleashing a powerful surge of elemental vitality through your spirit. Your magnificent rebirth, now infused with the fall's living magic and crowned by the rainbow, is about to experience a profound surge of elemental power. The Thunderbird signifies that your transformed spirit is now attuned to, and perhaps actively drawing upon, the raw and untamed forces of creation itself. This is a time to embrace that immense power within you, to allow your spirit to surge with that untamed vitality, to know that your resilience is capable of weathering that storm and emerging stronger out the other side. The steady flow of the falls, even in its winter embrace, now surges with that elemental force, speaking of a spirit that is not merely enduring, but electrifyingly powerful. A piece of wood or a stone that seems to hum with a primal energy. Even a sudden or unexpected surge of invigorating power through your being could be a testament to your awakened elemental strength. Please remember, these are but whispers from the cosmic currents, glimpses of that which may be the choices that you make, the actions that you take. These are the true shapers of your destiny. May the light of the moon guide your path, and may your journey be filled with discovery and fortune. Especially as the mighty Thunderbird takes flight above Moonhaven Falls. This has been Alara Meadowlight with your Omen Outcast.
SPEAKER_00Good afternoon to the citizens of Moonhaven Falls and the surrounding area. This is the scaled sophisticant himself, Igneus. I have decided to grace you with my answers for last week's riddles. They were, in order, a map, a fire, and the letter E. This week I have decided to change things up a little bit, as the answers to my riddles were bandied about, even sold, I am told, and this of course cannot be borne, so now the riddle will change on a daily basis. And to begin with, I think we will start with an old one that's still dear to my heart. This one thing all things devours birds, beasts, trees, flowers, quiets music, stifles sound, and it wears tall mountains down. What am I? I'll see you on the mountain, Moon Haven.
SPEAKER_01Good afternoon to you, O mighty Olympiads. A respectful bow to the nobles and guardsmen, a jaunty salute to the urchins, the businessmen, and my fellow citizens from all walks of life, here in the Lost Realms. Welcome back to Crossroads Chronicles. We are taking a brief detour from the new businesses of Moonhaven to examine a mightily adventurous business that has been long established. We have navigated the narrow, shadowy alleys near the docks to find a legendary, a bit somewhat dubious, establishment, known simply as the Feathered Find. The Feathered Find is run by a Kenku named Slith, and it's rumored that if you can't find it anywhere else, Slith has it. For a price. And possibly a mysterious promise. Slith! Thank you for allowing us into your establishment. The aroma is quite distinct. Now you specialize in quite a bizarre collection of magical and mundane artifacts, correct? Uh what exactly is your inventory philosophy?
SPEAKER_02What do you need?
SPEAKER_01Find the thing!
SPEAKER_02Pay the gold?
SPEAKER_01I see. Very concise. Um I'm looking at a few things right now that I simply have to ask about. Over here I see what looks like a genuine bag of holding, but it's clipped next to Is that a jar of goo of questionable origin?
SPEAKER_02It's sticky.
SPEAKER_01Very useful. Don't touch Noted. I'll take your advice and use my eyes only. And what's this? A rusty dented suit of chainmail labelled Armor of Invulnerability, some assembly required, and a small perfectly preserved feather? The feather of the mighty mythical granks you fly. The armor only needs a few rivets. Right. So the feather grants flight. The armor is a fixer-upper, and I suppose any item in the store could be a quest in and of itself, huh? Well, what's the most unusual request that you have fulfilled recently?
SPEAKER_00The final scale of a copper dragon. I need it for a potion.
SPEAKER_02It was a tough find! It's worth millions!
SPEAKER_01A final scale, you say? Well, let's talk price structure. Um, how do you assess the value of an item? Is it rarity? Power? Uh danger?
SPEAKER_02Tire desperation.
SPEAKER_00High demand. Or a secret.
SPEAKER_02Tell me a secret, get a discount.
SPEAKER_01A fascinating bartering technique, Slith. So for the adventurer listening right now who, for example, might need a potion of greater healing, or perhaps a slightly used wand of magic missiles, what's your final piece of advice for navigating the feathered find? Don't look with your eyes.
SPEAKER_02Keep your hands in your pockets. Don't touch the purple globe! And always check the seams.
SPEAKER_01Well there you have it, folks. The feathered find. The place where the bazaar meets the indispensable. Just be sure to pay in gold, not secrets. That's all for today here on Crossroads Chronicles. Thank you for listening, and may your adventures be profitable. You're listening to the Crystal Network.
SPEAKER_02Barney Buttercup here, reporting live from the jagged foothills of the serpent's tooth. I am standing outside of a cave mouth that smells faintly of roasted cedar, and is that ancient parchment? Folks, it seems the rumors are true. Are you tired of the same old dungeon crawls? Bored of fighting skeletons who just won't stay down? Then it's time to test your mind, not just your muscles. Welcome to the Igneous Invitational!
SPEAKER_00Bring me your treasures, little ones. A pouch of gold, a silver-edged blade, even well-aged cheese. If it has value to you, it has a place here on my scales. That's right!
SPEAKER_02Stick your wager against the gauntlet. If you can solve the riddles, bypass the illusions, and navigate the hull of shifting logic. Igneus will return your wager tenfold! That's a thousand percent return on your intellect. No fight to the death contracts, no messy sword play, just pure unadulterated wit. Whether you're a wizard with a high IQ or a rogue with a charming silver tongue, the mountain is calling you! Follow the smoke trails north of Moonhaven Falls! Look for the sign that says Thinkers Only!
SPEAKER_01Igneous is not responsible for ego-bruising temporary existential crisis or riddles that remain unsolved for more than three standard business days. All wagers are final. Brute Force attempts will be met with very polite, very hot eviction.
SPEAKER_00I'm waiting, and I've already solved the first three puzzles for you, so come and try your luck.
SPEAKER_02Good evening, Moonhaven Falls. You're listening to the Crystal Network, and it's time for a new segment that we're trial running, called The Magic Minute. Though if we're being honest, when wizards start talking, Minute is a very fluid concept. First up in academic news, the local Arcane Academy has issued a formal apology after the Intro to Transmutation final exam. Apparently, three sophomores accidentally swapped their sense of gravity with their sense of Tuesday. The campus is currently experiencing localized Wednesday morning ceilings, and the faculty is advising all students to wear lead-lined boots until the temporeal spatial alignment resets. On the topic of esoteric items, our researchers well, in this case Finn the Fantastic, found a very curious entry in the Gygax archives regarding a gourd of teleportation. Most wizards use rings or staves, but apparently a particularly eccentric druid in the Serpent's Tooth Mountains spent forty years enchanting a standard winter squash. It works perfectly, mind you, but there's a catch. It only teleports you to places where someone is currently cooking soup. Useful if you're hungry, less useful if you're trying to escape a bugbear. In local wild theories, a traveling merchant in the Shadow Fen is reportedly selling brooches of invisibility. The theory is that if you rub the brooch and then remain perfectly silent, no one can see you. Now, I hate to tell you this, students, but this is actually just a psychological experiment. The brooch does nothing, but people are generally too polite to acknowledge a person standing perfectly still and holding their breath in the middle of the market. If you bought one of these brooches for twenty gold, well, at least you're learning the value of silence. And finally, as per our contractual agreement as the town's primary seer, I have insights, things that are simple laws of reality, and they're for your safety. Stay with me now. If a blizzard casts a spell, using their bonus effort, sometimes called a bonus action, they are physically and magically incapable of casting any other complex spell in that same six-second window. You can only follow it up with a cantri. I would also like to remind everyone that surprise isn't a round of time, but rather a condition. You aren't in a surprise round. You are surprised, and once that turn is over, you stop being surprised, even if the person who jumped out at you hasn't moved yet. Honestly, what do you expect from the balance of the universe? This has been Lara Meadowlight with your Magic Minute.
SPEAKER_01Good evening, Moonhaven Falls. You are tuned to the Crystal Network, and I am your voice in the mist, Audrey Cashmere. It is a crisp, lovely evening. The spray from the Moonhaven Falls is creating a triple rainbow over the market square this evening, and if you haven't seen it yet, I suggest you take your evening tea by the fountain. It's quite the sight. We do, however, have a bit of a heavyweight update from the plateau. Lord Kendrick's scouts, bless the men and women, stationed on the higher ridges of the dragonspine, have confirmed the sightings of that possible Titanic threat. There's no soft way to put this, ladies and gentlemen. The being is a behemoth. Now, for those of you who skipped your natural histories at the local academy, a behemoth is not just a large animal. It's a walking mountain. This is a primordial force of hunger and gravity. Usually the arrival of such a creature would mean the immediate evacuation of any lowland settlement, as their very footsteps can liquefy soil, and their appetite has been known to turn lush valleys into dust bowls in a single afternoon. The concern, naturally, is was that it might take a liking to the lush grasses of Bahamas Plateau. But I am happy to report the scouts have observed the beast turning its head northward, moving steadily away from our jurisdiction. It seems it has no interest in our little corner of the world, simply passing through, likely looking for the deeper salt flats beyond the serpent's tooth. So we can all breathe a sigh of relief. The ground may well tremble a bit as it departs, but like a bad house guest who leaves without raiding the pantry, it seems we've dodged a boulder on this one. Stay safe, Moonhaven Falls, this is Audrey Kashmir with The Crystal Network. I appreciate you giving Moonhaven a chance, ladies and gentlemen. This concludes our episode for the week. We release a new episode every Tuesday morning at 5 AM Eastern, and I hope you found this podcast engaging, a little amusing, and genuinely creative. If you did, I'd appreciate it if you'd subscribe to the channel or follow the podcast, maybe even take a moment to rate it and share it with a friend or a community. It's a simple, easy action, lets the algorithm know that you listen to and want to continue hearing these stories. If you'd like to give your answer to Igneus's Daily Challenge, I will be posting them to Facebook and Patreon. There should be a link to both pages in the description. As a heads up we have also begun a question of the week over on Facebook, where we ask you about things like your favorite retired personal character or how your party would solve a challenge. If you'd like to engage with a specific character, or even just the channel in general, please pop in, say hello, and let me know what your favorite segment is. Also, please keep in mind that I do personally write, edit, and produce all of the content for the show, with the occasional guest appearance from my wife and children. So, if you'd like to buy me a cup of coffee, or Timmy a cup of cocoa per month, as encouragement to continue creating it, believe me, we gratefully accept. Thank you to all of our supporters, especially the increasing number of you who have reached out to tell me your favorite segments. My family and I genuinely appreciate all of you showing your support by tuning in every week, and we'd like to thank you for continuing to do so. I look forward to seeing you in the comments, and I hope you tune in again next week.
