Welcome to the Mom Boss Like a Boss Podcast, a podcast where we talk about mom life, entrepreneurship, and everything in between. I'm your host, Taylor B, a mom of four precious boys and an entrepreneur at heart. If you've been looking for a village of like-minded people, then I think you've found the right place. I look forward to talking with you, and I can't wait to see you inside. Hello, hello. Welcome back to the podcast. This episode is titled Why I Rest on Saturdays and What It's Taught Me About Faith and Balance. So, thankfully, my my voice has seemingly returned for the most part. Still have like a pretty bad cough that likes to randomly pop up, but hey, I will take not sounding like a bad phone connection. So most entrepreneurs, especially when they're in the starting building phases, they hustle every day possible. Right? You know, hustle culture, we typically are taught, oh, I barely ate, I barely slept, and all I did was work on my business and do this and that and this. And I think I'm noticing online we're moving away from hustle culture because it's realistically not healthy and it's not sustainable. Now for me, uh my brain is running 25 hours a day, eight days a week, whether I have kids or not. But because of my faith, uh, if I have not made that clear, I believe in God, the one true God, I believe in the Bible, and in the Word, in the Bible, it the Word tells us that we are supposed to keep the Holy Sabbath, which is the seventh day. You know, when God created the world in seven days, I mean, or in six days, he created the world in six days and rested on the seventh, and that is the holy sabbath. In his word, there are scriptures. I forgot to pull them up, but I'll have to find them. There are scriptures that say to keep his Sabbath, and I wasn't raised in the church, so in my adult years, I have gotten more into his word and more trying to get closer to God and build my relationship with him and keep keep the faith. So when I found out about the Holy Sabbath, and I wrote and I found out, oh, I'm not okay, I'm not supposed to work as far as like working for money, and I'm not supposed to cook, I'm not supposed to clean, you're supposed to rest. You are literally supposed to rest. Um, it has been a journey, it has been a very long journey because there were times where I would forget the Sabbath was coming up, um, and then I wouldn't have anything made, you know, like for my kids or anything like that. I wouldn't have anything prepared ahead of time. So I'd be like, okay, dang, I'm gonna have to cook. Um, if you also are a believer, then you can, I mean, if you use the Bible app on your phone or your tablet or whatever, you can go and search Sabbath S-A-B-B-A-T-H, and you can find the scriptures relevant to what I'm talking about. At least you should be able to. That's what I'm gonna do after I'm finished recording this. But um, and also if you are not a believer, I'm not telling you that you need to be doing this. That is not why I brought this up. And I'm also not telling you that you have to follow my religion and my beliefs. Not at all. I am not that type of person. I am not a bot, I am not a Bible thumper. Okay. I believe everyone has a choice, and whatever your choice is, it is valid. You know. So I'm gonna tell you real quick why now, especially after years of trying to put it into practice, why now I am very adamant on following the Sabbath and also following it on the day that I believe we are supposed to be, I'm supposed to be following it. There, and the reason why I say on the day that I believe I'm supposed to be following it is because there are some people who I've encountered who follow it on a different day. Like they the typical day is Sunday, um, and then other people are like, well, you know, whatever their work schedule is, they follow it on a different day. Right? So I would say if that is something you want to pursue, then follow where God is leading you. There was one night where I normally took Friday nights off from Uber and Lyft, but there was one night that I decided to go out and work. Don't remember why, but I think I wanted to make some extra money. And with where I live in Madison, Wisconsin, I live there's a the downtown area is very busy, especially at night and especially during the summer. Although it's pretty busy throughout the winter as well. But downtown is really busy, it's got all the bars, it's got all the things that all the college students and the party people like to go where everybody likes to go and hang out at at night. So Friday night, I wanted to make some extra money. Normally, I take Friday nights off because the Sabbath is supposed to be from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday, a 24-hour period. This time I decided to work. I made really good money that night. I really did. However, the next night, Saturday night, when I would typically work, when I was getting ready to go and work, somehow, someway, my car tire got stuck in a weird way. It hopped the curb. Like the whole left side of my car was hanging off the curb, but it was stuck in such a way that no matter how much gas I gave it, that car wouldn't move. And I was like, you gotta be kidding me. And for me, whenever weird things like that happen that are kind of unexplainable to me and don't really make sense, or it's like, really, in this way, it happened this way. For me, that was God telling me, now you know I have told you, you supposed to keep my holy sabbath. So now, since you want to play with me, this is this is what's gonna happen. So my tire got stuck. Eventually, thankfully, someone was passing by with a big truck, and he ended up helping. He had like a rope, he had something that we put around the tire, and we pulled the car out, pulled the car free. Now, mind you, this is also like 121, 2 a.m. also. So thankfully, eventually, we got the car unstuck, and I right before it got unstuck, I literally said, if we can just get this car unstuck, I'm going home. Like, like clearly, God is talking to me and telling me, hey, I told you what you're supposed to do and you didn't listen, so this is what happened. That that was the message that I received, okay. And I remember once we got the car unstuck, I thought about going to go work because I'm like, oh, Sabbath is over, so you know, I think I can go work. And then I was like, you know what? I'm I'm gonna stop testing the Lord, I'm gonna stop doing that, I'm gonna just go all. Ever since then, I do not work Friday nights, period. And all day Saturday, period. Do not do it. I'm not playing that game because I'm like, it would be just my luck if I keep testing God for him to be like, you know what, since you won't listen, now you ain't got a car no more. So I just I just stopped playing with him. So that's just the story about why I fought of what led me to being so adamant about following it. But I also wanted to say that it's even on a non-spiritual or non-religious, non-faith-based thought process, you need to rest. Your business cannot function without you, your family cannot function without you. You are an important part of the world, of your family, whatever it is that you are a part of, you are very important, and your rest is important. So even if you are not a believer, if you don't believe in religion, if you whatever it is that you believe, you should absolutely take at least one day a week to rest. Don't work on your business, don't work in your business, whether it's a weekend, whether it's a weekday in the middle of the week, whatever day you need and wherever you can fit it in your schedule, take one day and rest. And rest could look like whatever it looks like for you. Rest could be you go and go out and shop for your favorite things. Like for me, a little treat for myself that I like to do every once in a while is go to Bath and Body Works and get some of my favorite fragrances because I love um perfume. I love my smell goods, I really do. So every so often I'll take a day where I'm kit-free for a few hours because my mom's got them, and then I'll just go get, you know, my favorite scents, maybe get some ice cream if I feel like it, you know, if I'm filmed, if I'm feeling spicy that day, go get ice cream. Go take yourself on a shopping spree. And shopping spree doesn't necessarily have to mean spend a thousand dollars. You could literally go spend thirty, forty, fifty dollars and go get your favorite fragrances from your favorite shop. You could go spend ten dollars and go get your favorite ice cream at that really good ice cream shop that you like to go to every so often for a treat. Whatever you gotta do, even if that looks like laying around at home all day doing absolutely nothing. Sleeping, watching your favorite show, playing a game, playing a video game. Whatever rest looks like for you, find time to incorporate it into your life. Otherwise, you're gonna burn out, you're gonna be stressed, and you're gonna feel like you're only working to pay bills. You know, I know that's for me, that's what a nine to five feels like when I'm not making enough for other things. If I'm only making enough for bills, it feels like I'm only working to pay bills and there's nothing left. And that is draining. So if and it and even with entrepreneurship, if you feel like you're only working to build this business, but it's going to take time, and you feel like you're not seeing the success that you want, you're gonna get burnt out. Take time to rest, take time to just relax your body, your mind, your heart, take time to wooza and not have to worry about anything. That's my recommendation. Like I said, whether it is your faith or whether it is because your body and your mind and your spirit need rest, take time out of your schedule once a week, take at least one day and rest. You'll find yourself recharged and ready to take on the world. Thank you so much for listening. I really appreciate it. And I'll catch you in the next one. Bye.
