Welcome to the Mom Boss Like a Boss Podcast, a podcast where we talk about mom life, entrepreneurship, and everything in between. I'm your host, Taylor B., a mom of four precious boys and an entrepreneur at heart. If you've been looking for a village of like-minded people, then I think you've found the right place. I look forward to talking with you, and I can't wait to see you inside. Hello, hello. Welcome back to the podcast. If you're new here, welcome. Glad to have you here. I'm Taylor B. I am the brand and web designer behind TB Design Loft, a brand and web design studio that helps Mompreneurs build sustainable businesses that flow with their life instead of control their life. On today's episode, we're gonna talk about why should we care about your business? That is. Let's get into it. What do I mean about why should we care about your business? Whenever you start up a new business, you may have noticed you'll get a lot of congratulations, that's awesome, cool. I'm gonna share it, share your website, post your stuff, I'll share it, I'll share it, I'll share it, I'll like it, and all that. We appreciate the support, of course. We love it. Thank you. But here's what I mean when I say why should we care? Because I'm talking about your ideal customers. This episode is about brand positioning and brand storytelling and how they combine to make your business impactful and help it grow. First things first, I am going to quote my coach, Kenzie Green of Kenzie Green Design. I don't remember where I heard her say it. I do not remember. I don't remember if it was in her course that she co-founded or if it was in one of her reels or podcast episodes. It might have been a podcast episode. I don't remember. I just remember distinctly her saying this specifically. For example, when you're when you talk about your product, if you sell a coffee cup, don't talk about the features, don't talk about how it's double-walled and it don't say that it keeps your coffee hot all day. That's not impactful. I don't remember exactly how she put it, but it was something along the lines of a coffee cup. Example. Instead of saying that the coffee cup keeps your drink hot or cold or regulates the temperature, instead of listing the features of what your product does, tell a story about the feature. So for example, let's say you custom design coffee cups, reusable coffee cups. Let's just use that as an example. Instead of saying unique designs for your coffee every morning, say something about finally a coffee cup that matches your outfit and your vibe, no matter what mood you're in. That speaks to the custom designs or the unique designs while highlighting the fact that it is a coffee cup, it's reusable, things of that nature. Don't list the feature, tell the story behind the feature. Give your customer a visual to help them imagine themselves using your product, your service, experiencing your brand, being in your store, whatever it is. Because if you're only listing features, if you're only saying we sell phone cases, we sell candles, we sell lip gloss, we sell this, that, and the other. We offer this service, we do nails, we braid hair. You're going to get lost in a sea of all of the other businesses that do the exact same thing or similar to you. If you've ever heard of your unique value proposition, your unique selling proposition, whatever terminology you've heard. It's basically where your brand is positioned in the market. If you are a braiding salon among thousands of others, what do you do differently for your customers and your clientele that stands out from other salons? That's what we're talking about here. What is your position that makes your business different? And also don't just list it. Don't just say we offer styles that last long, look good, and feel good. Anybody can say that. Just being honest, anyone can say that. What makes you different? Is it that you're open later? Do you have flexible scheduling? Do you have night hours? Do you have early morning hours in order to compensate for those styles that might take several hours? Do you guarantee a short braiding time? Because maybe you have three people on one head for larger styles, hypothetically. Do you offer refreshments and breaks? Do you offer discounts every third style? One of my friends, she is a braider here in my city. And I believe if I recall correctly, she introduced packages. It's like a, I don't think it's a yearly thing, I apologize. It's but you pay a thousand or two thousand or however much the price is up front, and you get what, four styles a year? Yeah, I think it's like a yearly, I think she did a yearly braid pass. It's something like that, where you pay however much up front, and then you get however many styles a year. That to me was absolutely genius because I don't know of anyone else who does that. There might be others who do that, but I don't know anyone who does that. Even though I can't afford it right now, I absolutely would invest in that. Imagine tax time comes around and all your debts paid off. You don't need to do anything with your tax money, and you're just like, you know what? Let me just go ahead and get this braid passed so that way my hairstyles are taken care of for the whole year, and I only gotta pay one time. That's exactly what I want to do. So she's already sold me when I found out that she was offering that. So what makes your brand different? How do you stand out? What's different about your candles? Is it the way that they're designed? Is it the way that they smell? Is it how long they last? Is it the material they're made out of? Are they organic? Are they safe? Because maybe there is no wick and you don't have to worry about a fire. You can leave it on when you're not home and your house can still smell beautiful. What is different about your business that makes you stand out in your industry? Tell the story behind the difference. In general, when you're selling anything, whether it's a service or a product, tell the story. Because when you combine a unique position with amazing storytelling, that's how you rope in your people. That's how your tribe, that's how your people find you. And that's how you build a community of people who will ride or die for you. That's how you build a brand. That's how, no matter how big some of these businesses get, they have people who will ride for them no matter what they do. You could have canceled them because they're this, that, and the other. And which we've seen it. And there's still plenty of people who still support them and don't care. Whether it's because they don't care about what the reason is that they're trying to be canceled for, maybe they align with it, or maybe it's just because, well, I've been supporting this brand for years. I love their products, X, Y, and Z reasoning, whatever it is. When you tell your story in a unique way, when you share your story, who you are, why you do what you do, why you're about what you're about, and you tell it in a compelling way. That is how you build a cult-like following. Think about the beehive. Just saying, what's Nicki Minaj's following? The barbs. Think about how big those followings are and how their fans ride for them no matter what. The majority of them ride for them no matter what. Think of your brand like that. And the way that you achieve that is by positioning your brand uniquely in your industry, figuring out what makes you different. How do you stand out? Okay, you make designs for t-shirts and hoodies. Okay, what's different? What's different? Don't say that it's just unique designs. What is unique about the designs? What is the story behind the uniqueness behind the designs? Combining your unique position and telling the story behind it is going to make a business that grows and stands the test of time. It's just something to think about. If you need any assistance with something like this, trying to pinpoint where exactly your brand positioning is and how to do that, how to find that, feel free to DM me on Instagram or Threads, and I'd be happy to talk with you, learn about your business, and see what I can do to help. I think I'm gonna wrap it up there. Thank you so much for tuning into this podcast episode, and I'll see you in the next one. Bye! Thanks for listening to the Mom Boss Like a Boss podcast.
