Welcome, welcome, welcome to Hoops and Headset. I don't know if this is gonna be a funeral or a super unfiltered version because I just watched my Dukies lose on the show. Coach you like my hat. And then this chunk with a Duke hat on. Man.
SPEAKER_03Coach, I was man, I had to put my duke hat on.
SPEAKER_01You don't care.
SPEAKER_00You was talking about. What happened? Get out of here. Did they win? Coach, you better stop.
unknownYou better stop.
SPEAKER_00You better stop. Walking to the city.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, man. I just had to, you know, the high high education, man. That's a good school to go to.
SPEAKER_01So now you gotta realize, man, that five-star guys do dumb stuff. So you really can't get mad. You really can't get mad at regular.
SPEAKER_03If you'd have told me that would have threw that ball, just damn. I don't know what I want. I think he just was, I think they just practiced just pitching it ahead in that situation. Cause you got numbers.
SPEAKER_01And them dudes are long, so when they threw the ball like Yeah, it's jumped up, coach. You know they coming up, like the deflection. Coach, just throw the ball freaking straight up in the air. Just throw it in the air. Just just throw it straight up.
SPEAKER_03Don't do that. That man going to the NBA. That man don't care about that stuff. That man gone. They gone, Coach. Maybe I'll get it next, Joe. Maybe I'll get it next year.
SPEAKER_01Coach, we don't had the two number one high school players two years in a row. I know, Coach. Probably two number one picks two years in a row. And you've seen other coaches get fired for less. This dude done been up to the case.
SPEAKER_03Coach, you can't do that. Coach, you can't fire the man after one game.
SPEAKER_01Okay, check this out.
SPEAKER_03So the Florida coach.
SPEAKER_01The Florida coach is gone too, then. Nah. No, no, no. Think about this. If the coach from North Carolina got fired, he was up 20. Coach, don't do that on the podcast.
SPEAKER_03Coach, don't do that.
SPEAKER_01Come on, man. Get him out of there. It should have been Johnny Dawkins from the start, anyway. Cause look. Johnny Dawkins at um UCM. He was the head coach too. Yeah, Johnny Dawkins. He's been the head coach the lawn. It should have either been Johnny Dawkins or Tommy Amiker, who's at those are Duke's first All-Americans. Johnny Dawkins was their first McDonald's All-American. He should have been a little bit more.
SPEAKER_03JJ Reddick, um, Jason Williams could be a good coach though, too. Who JJ Reddick?
SPEAKER_01He ain't going down there.
SPEAKER_03Now he in the lead, he's in that league, money. No, he ain't going down there. He with the Lakers, co he can't go in. He's in the Lakers, coach.
SPEAKER_00Everybody gets asked about there, too. Gotta win. He out there arguing with Luca.
SPEAKER_03But if he can't argue with Luca, they're gonna get rid of you, dog. Luke gonna get rid of to get somebody from Europe over there in that coach. Coach, what um you coaching the NBA though, man? I don't think what else is you to do after that?
SPEAKER_01Nothing. But but they say your boy going, he may go to North Carolina. Who? Billy D.
SPEAKER_03Billy D need to go back to Florida. We can get rid of that Florida coach, man. Coach, that man good, coach. Coach, that man, that was coach. I couldn't believe he did that. Coach that man, that was practiced. They practiced that way in on them. That was a practice. He broke the poker.
SPEAKER_01Not even that. You're never, and this is and like I tell my kids this every time. You never leave ball side corner. Ever. No. The help got to come from the opposite corner because he has to be able to make that pass across court. He can't just come across the city.
SPEAKER_03Coach it was three on two. He now watch, watch. This coaching night, so we gotta have, we know we got a real box podcast. Like we good coaches, how we we feel like we good coaches. So if it's three on two, that's basically what it turned on to. Yeah, I'm thinking he didn't want to give up the two because the two is the easier shot to make than the threes. But all the two does is tie the game. A three get you out of there. He's thinking he's missing on this. See, it's like the high percentage shot. So he went for the two. But I guess he maybe he's wrong, because I guess everybody shooting threes now. But you see what I'm saying? That looked at it like that. That's how the Florida coach puts the kid in a bad spot. No, he was dumb anyway. Like he shouldn't have been up there pressing. Or do or do the two bat dudes just stand in the basket and let him try to drive it or just jump on. See, that's how you know it's the coach. That's how you know it's the coach. Because nobody knows what went on with that. You put the kids in a bad spot. It's three on two, then what to do?
SPEAKER_01Go to stop the ball, go to the corner, get do on the basket. Listen, that's the only, and so the only saving grace about Duke is Daddy Hurley is graduated the same year I graduated high school, so I know him, so I'm not mad, but damn. And he from Andy from Jersey City, so you know you can't be mad at that. He's from the crib.
SPEAKER_03They don't sit Duke on back to tobacco roll with that L.
SPEAKER_01Coach, you thought I was gonna chip though? Yeah, coach, listen, and you know my daughter lives in dorm. I couldn't wait to call her to tell me to send me some shirts. Boy, I couldn't wait.
unknownI couldn't wait.
SPEAKER_01Baby, I need you to send me some shirts. I couldn't because I couldn't wait. I couldn't wait.
SPEAKER_03Man, I knew I'm gonna, but I never did like Duke without that cheating they used to do. So I because that's what everybody says. Yeah, because I seen him when I was growing up. I used to cheat a lot for dude. Nah, for real, because that's a real thing. That's what everybody's saying. That's a real thing, because like that's how like I don't like Duke like that. I'm glad they lost. I'm glad. Y'all ain't going to the final four. How would going to the final four? That's his team too. I'm glad they lost. So he can't. His team is who? Duke. Don't say that.
SPEAKER_00Don't say that. This is about to make me twist teams. You're gonna make me game switch. You're gonna make me twist teams now. That's that that's why we lost. Yup.
SPEAKER_03That's why we lost. He said he's gonna go to the final four boy. Team ain't gonna be there though. This this joke don't win and put on a duke hat. You know you know batching with the blue. It was raining out down there at Edwater today. A little rain. That's what's going on. Middle school season about to crank up, man.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, man. I was talking to Joe today. I saw him, I went up to May.
SPEAKER_03Oh, he thinks Hanson's gonna win. He thinks he's going back to back.
SPEAKER_01No, he now he ain't really say that, but he said that they played Noose Murder on Tuesday.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, we're pulling up. Nooson Murder and Tuesday.
SPEAKER_01And then they play Campbell on Thursday.
SPEAKER_03We gotta pull up to that Thursday game, Coach.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna probably go, because I'm only going to three games all year. I'm going to Hanson Campbell. Yeah. And I'm going to OBMS first game on uh Tuesday. I don't even know where you're gonna do. Who they play first?
SPEAKER_03Huh? Who they play first?
SPEAKER_01I don't know. I find that one of the kids, I reach out to one of my guys and ask them, but Oh, they got a uh they got some jits down there, Armin, huh? Yeah, I'm gonna go up there and watch them. Um, and then I'm gonna uh go watch Joe and but coach, I don't want to go to all the middle school games because that's that's four more years I'm gonna have to sign on for. I don't want to know all that.
SPEAKER_03Because Armin might have Armin, they're gonna make you do it, cuz they got a little because you know you know I like the middle school, but I like the high school.
SPEAKER_01Nah, no, the only the the the reason why because they'll be live at the middle school game. They'll be live, because they they cut the channel.
SPEAKER_03They've been selling, they've been selling out on Instagram and all that, the little team, my little creekside cougar. Yeah, they play Campbell for. They talking about um they're talking about they're gonna tame a spark. Cole, them people ain't say that. Yes, they did, called them little boys gonna get beat to death. They might go in there and beat Campbell. Nah, Camel got from the colour. Let me tell you this. This is the first year in a while that is wide open from middle school. Not know who's gonna win.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. Like, like I told you when you come.
SPEAKER_03When you asked about the favorite, who would you say the favorite is right now? Hinter because they won it last year. They got they got one of the best top five jits. KD um Jenkins, he wanted the top five jits, if not the best jit. The Jits, they was talking to him, they say we gotta do the middle school ranking of the kid. I say, Ray don't really know y'all middle school kids, but he said, You know, Coach you got to say.
SPEAKER_01No, I don't know. But I have no idea.
SPEAKER_03Coach is gonna be wide open. I'm telling you, it's gonna you don't know who's gonna win. Cause guess who I think is gonna win the whole thing? Who? New Sabrina Beach. You won't believe that.
unknownAll right.
SPEAKER_03Remember I said that. Just like I didn't I tell you before we got on the phone, didn't I tell you before that dude game that y'all season was over today?
SPEAKER_01Coach, leave me alone.
SPEAKER_03Coach, did I tell you that though? It wasn't looking good for me though. It wasn't looking good for me though. It wasn't looking good, but them boys came through, boy. That boy hit that three, that boy turned that ball over. Now you're talking about fire the coach.
SPEAKER_01Coach, you gotta fire him.
SPEAKER_03Coach bad, it's bad, Naco. Yeah, they got rid of Hubert Davis. But see, they they weren't supposed to do that, man, because he had like his best player was hurt, bro.
SPEAKER_01I don't about care about none of that. Yes, Josh. I don't know. How long you been the coach of that dude? Josh, it gotta be three or four. Four, maybe. Three, four years. He's been powered up up there, damn, coach. No, Coach, you've been getting the number one kid every year.
SPEAKER_03Oh, so eventually he got a win Sunday.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he got a win, coach. He's been getting the number one kid every year.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he got Cooper Flat them lost in the final floor last year, didn't he?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, after being up 20.
SPEAKER_03Damn, they're about up 20 losing.
SPEAKER_01How'd that happen though? Coach is just different, man. Like I You know what I think it is? Uh-uh, and uh them boy really wants shooting three, making it pretty. See, Coach Henry put me on it. Coach Henry said it, and he said it about a team he played. He said that teams be playing not to lose instead of trying to win. So when you get up by a couple points and you start being tentative and want to run the clock down, and you know, here in Daytona where you don't have a shot clock. If a team gets up four with three minutes on the clock, they're gonna hold the ball around here. They say that's over or not, though, ain't it? No uh next year. This year coming up? No, the following year. It's mandatory. Hey, because they mess around with me. I'm probably gonna get I'm probably gonna go buy some shot clocks, and everybody that comes to my gym, we put on the shot clock.
SPEAKER_03Because you can do it this year though, can't you? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I wanna do it too. Oh I wanna do it too, bro.
SPEAKER_01I don't play it, I I think I've played four four games with the shot clock in the last two years. Because when you go to masters, they always want to play with it. So as long as you got it in the gym, I wanna start doing it too. Yeah, as long as you got it in the gym and somebody's able to work it, you can tell people, as long as the other team agrees, you can play with it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I wanna play with a shot clock. I'm tired of it.
SPEAKER_01I was looking up the price of the day. You know what I'm saying? You can get the one that can stand on the floor, two of them for like 300 bucks. So I'm probably gonna buy it. And um So when we come to y'all, we gotta play with the shot clock? It's a possibility. If I ain't gonna say that on this podcast, so because I don't want nobody to get mad, so I ain't gonna say that.
SPEAKER_03Because y'all can't be trying to get out them five-star games, no? Nah.
SPEAKER_01Uh uh.
SPEAKER_03I'm you know, I may be gone, so you know, you know how I be. Because you got these things for at least for you got some close. Well, get well, get well, get to me then, man. Cause I can't get one, dog. God started I'm gonna finish with my homies. I'm gonna finish. Finish out, then tell the AD to get to me, dog. I gotta finish the job. So, okay, so we'll do it like this then. Like, if like whenever you tell me like I'm this it, then I'm gonna just start backdoing you.
SPEAKER_01Hey, that's what the word on the street that y'all be doing over there.
SPEAKER_03Down there on uh coach, go out and do I'm finna start.
SPEAKER_01I'm finna backdoor how coach, you can't say that on here. Oh, oh you can't say that.
SPEAKER_03Coach, why not?
SPEAKER_01Coach, let's focus on the middle school because you tripping.
SPEAKER_03Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. You tripping. The middle school is gonna be lit. Don't you really don't know who's gonna win it this year? Really? No, it's okay, Cody. All the games are gonna be good games. You think so? Yeah, the sneaker. I mean, the kids spread out now. It ain't like like you know, Joe done was eighth grade deep, and had Ken who was in um seventh grade, one of the best players, so they ran through everything. But he back. Yeah, but I don't think I got all that help that he had last year.
SPEAKER_01And they got the better kids from um from OBMS, they got one of OBMS kids.
SPEAKER_03Oh, so one transfer to Henson? Joe got what got one out the portal, huh?
SPEAKER_01Like right as the season was about to start, same day. Cody, they gotta stop, man. It's gonna hit the middle school. Oh, Cody, was something I don't know the whole man. Joe gotta stop.
SPEAKER_03No, I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Hey, I don't know the whole story, but it was wild.
SPEAKER_03It ain't gonna be enough, though. No Samurna's gonna win that. Oh, you crazy. I can't win. Okay. I'm gonna tell you the top, I'm gonna tell you the teams that really can win. Always count, cause of the kids. Joe and Henson, because they got Kate and he won the top five. I'm gonna give you a sleeper. Silver Sands.
SPEAKER_05Silver Sans.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because they got that boy. Who Malachi? Yeah, they got that boy. Yeah, he can play. They got, yeah, that's a little mile. I'll put everybody on mile, man. They don't care about. But anyway. No, but no, Coach OBM's got like just from O.
SPEAKER_01But Horman got some gits to him. Yeah, just from what I I seen and I heard, they got some good dudes out down there. So they got a point guard that might make you sneak around.
SPEAKER_03If he goes there, I think he'll go to the mail. Coach, I don't coy. Coach he can play, the male chick can play. And he point guard for real, though. He likes CP3.
SPEAKER_01I don't think he gets enough credit because the light skinned guy, Isaac.
SPEAKER_03I don't know his name. I know he can play. I know it's the male, so I like how he plays.
SPEAKER_01Coach, he's in the uh he's in my wife program. I'm talking the other night at the at the at the uh orientation. That man ain't going to see that man ain't going. Man, coach he in the coach, he in the wasn't he in the ace program. Coach, I just saw him the other night.
SPEAKER_03Oh, talking about when all the kids and stuff came out there. Yeah, the other night. Oh, and uh coach, he can play coach. I like him. So he don't get enough credit, but he can play coach. He really can't play. He was with Baldy, man. All Baldy Jits. We started with Baldy, man. Shout out to Baldy, man. All Baldi Jits, that's in middle school, not in the high school, like King, Caden, the mayor. All them kids know how to play, dog. Like for real, boy.
SPEAKER_01Is the mayor Jit? He has C Breeze too. He had the Hina Age programs night, too. Nah, Cody can hoop, Cole.
SPEAKER_03He can hoop, but I never got too much. Silver says, Silver says, New Silver got like New Sabrina deep. No, they like 10 deep, no.
SPEAKER_01Listen, I'm gone just to go try to. I'm gonna go Tuesday and I'm gonna go Thursday, and then that might be lights out for me after that.
SPEAKER_03New Smyrna girls probably gonna win it too, Cody. You think so? I ain't being biased. I just know what's what's you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01And the property is. And then on the girls' side, they had said you can't press in the second half.
SPEAKER_03That done made it worse, though, if they did that. I went to the um the Campbell and Crete side the first game of last year, and they got up by like 20. They said that you only can you gotta be at half court. So Coach Johnson put a half court trap on. It made it hard worse. Because not a court cut in half. Not and they got to go against the clock. Man, them girls start turning the ball over more when they did that. I believe it. No, bro. Man, he put that half-court trap in that manual girl compared to it. It was at least in the full court pressure, you got a chance to throw it to an open area, get it open. You know what I mean? That's a bad rule, man. That's a bad rule. Because the kids can get blown out quicker.
SPEAKER_01I'm looking at the uh the Florida High School classifiers. They got a head girls coach at Winapart. Dang, let me put it on. Who else? I'm looking right now. I just seen the Winter Park. Dang, man. I still trying to find me a preseason. And the girls? Winter? And they volleyball team so far. So it lets you know they gotta have some girls over there. That's tall and everything. I should put in the house. Volleyball team fire.
unknownDamn.
SPEAKER_01Ain't no other drawers open?
SPEAKER_03Nah, ain't no other drawers open, man. Is Lopez girl draw still over? I gotta get a job. I'm finna start backdoor for real, man. I'm finna start for real. I'm finna start calling the principles, ADs, all types of stuff.
SPEAKER_00Ain't nobody fooling with you because you be talking, you be messing with people too much, dog. Ain't messing with nobody. Ain't nobody messing with you.
SPEAKER_03I gotta get on, man. It's going against time. Oh, okay. Actually, I don't want to pay no money to play nowhere. Don't pay no money.
SPEAKER_01You come. If y'all are donating money to Ebenezer Baptist Church, I'm coming. If not, I ain't coming nowhere. And and I ain't coming to no tournament or no classic or no shootout with nobody ain't giving out no t-shirts or no.
SPEAKER_00So we gotta give out t-shirts and feature and give some money to the Baptist church in Georgia.
SPEAKER_01No, either one of one or the other. Because Code, listen. People think they be people think that they be hustling, talking about how much the referee costs I gotta pay for the cost of the gym and the referee. I know it's a lot.
SPEAKER_03Code is a lot, Code.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. You making money. And then just say that. But don't call it a MLK or don't don't call it.
SPEAKER_03Don't do that, Code. Everybody be having List. So don't just call it MLK. Don't just call that MLK. That's everybody be had what they be able to have. What is uh execute the M. What else do we have? What else? What else? Well, that's why you got it. That's about it, though. That's about it though. That's about it. It's just uh MLK though, Marl Luther King, man. For real, man.
SPEAKER_01See, my door Christian always do a free seat. I just don't want to go nowhere far. If the guy from the the guy from Sebastian River say he wants to do one, Code, that's two-hour drive. I'm not doing all that.
SPEAKER_03I'm finna call, I'm gonna call your AD and just tell him.
SPEAKER_01You can backdoor me, code. I will gladly run a body. Gladly.
SPEAKER_03Co wait, cool. Oh, speaking of middle school, I can't pick my camel this year because I picked them last year and peanut don't let me down, man. He talking about I was talking to him all day, he's talking about his best kids got hurt last year.
SPEAKER_01Nobody won't hear that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, tell Nut, man. Nut ain't. I thought nothing was finna three-pee. Jodel might three P though.
SPEAKER_01No, they're gonna get I like I said, 'cause like I have no idea. The only kid I the only kid I know is the kid uh is the one that was good, like the top eighth-grade kid Ryan K K. And then I don't think it's a bunch of them like the hoop, man. Nah, I don't know him like that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So, but that's the only one, that's the only one that I've heard of. I haven't watched. Um, because I just don't I just feel like the middle school basketball is so so like hurried. They don't really give the coaches enough time to really spend with the kids and get kids done.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's just it's just like you gotta, but it's kind of that I think that's what makes it like you gotta plug and go, boy. You gotta be got to transfer in their right footer two of them go. Two of them portal over. Joe and Joe tried to go back to bat. How many uh championship Hansen got? Just one with Joe and Travis. Oh, yeah, he finna go back to bat. Yeah, Joe and Travis. Yeah, Travis got one. So they only got two. Yeah. How many nut got since he been at Campbell? One? No, he got ox, he got mellow them, he got ox them. Yeah. Oh, he got two.
SPEAKER_01Nut be smoking over there.
SPEAKER_03He got nut better win this year. You talking about he calls me, man. I thought they're gonna win it last year, you know. But I think it's gonna be it's gonna come down to the east side, though. Believe it or not, though. All the games. No, they told me that.
SPEAKER_01They said that no, not Del Tona Middle. What's the other galaxy? Galaxy. They said Galaxy got some dudes over there.
SPEAKER_03They probably got the um Florida Fire dude. He probably probably got all his kids. That was, you know, the one that you coach at Maylon.
SPEAKER_05Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_03I don't pretend. Yeah, legit, his kids might go to the coach.
SPEAKER_01That's what his that's what they said. They said a galaxy middle. Because I think the coach at Galaxy is Coach Harry's assistant coach.
SPEAKER_03Oh, look at that. Man, Harry got a stop, man. Y'all again, coaches at the middle school. Y'all just gotta let me know. Not me. Oh, yes, I do. What's the name Coach? Pep. Oh, Pep at where Orman? You've been at Orman. I know that I'm just saying, I just yeah, Orman probably gonna be good. Somebody told me Orman's gonna be good.
SPEAKER_01They don't be sending me no kids, Coach. They don't matter. Man, all them kids from Orman go. To Steve Breeze Hill? Because they had to. So Coach, I ain't never even got invited. Shoot. Your head coach got invited into the locker room at uh at OBMS. I never got invited to come talk to the kids. Yeah, it's middle school. You can talk to all of them. Go forget what they're talking about. Listen, man. Like when I go to the uh OBMS game, I don't have no C rees get on. I'd be in a hoodie. I go sit to the top. Because you know they jump out the upstairs. I don't want to talk to nobody, none of that. Oh, I forgot all about Armor. They got some jits. It's gonna be good. But I'm gonna go watch. So if you're telling me New Smyrna pretty decent, I gotta see if no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Because that they play Tuesday. I'm going to watch OBMS on Tuesday for sure.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, New Suburna's gonna be decent, Coach. New Saberna, Silver Sands, Campbell, Hanson, and Orman. So if I had to make a pick today, not picking, I'm not picking uh Campbell with peanut. I'm not picking the they don't win. They don't win last year after he tells me they're finna win. Go back to back. I say the number one team. I just can't go against Hanson because they got Caden, because he's really, really good. And then you say they got Orman best two Jits? One of the kids supposed to be really good. So they got him. So yeah, I'm gonna go. I go Hanson. Then I'm gonna go. I kind of don't want to put no pressure on my jits from New Samerno. Man, I might let him. I go Silver Sands, Campbell, Orman, then New Samrona.
SPEAKER_01You put y'all fourth.
SPEAKER_03I don't want to put that pressure on them like that. But they gonna be tough though. They're gonna be tough, Coach. It's gonna be hard to beat them.
SPEAKER_01So, like if I learned anything from the from the last couple years, whatever, I'm gonna ride with my kids. It depends on how that scales. You going with Ormond? No, Coach, they got a good team, huh?
SPEAKER_03No, I'm riding like from now on, like I think they got a bunch of them storm kids up there. No, no, coach ain't been they don't mind. They always be talking crazy. Cat. Every time you start talking crazy, I don't care about none of that. I tell you, I thought they was based out of Ormond. The Ormond they play a lot of basketball. That's what I'm saying. Middle school.
SPEAKER_01You know when that when we know when that clock starts at 18 minutes, start going uh cold. One of them, one of the one of the one of the I I heard this from Joe today too. One of the dogmas storm kids, it's the guy Rob who runs the storm. His kid go to uh Henson.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah, he does he the little shooter. Yeah, he can play. His jick can play. Yeah, he goes, yeah, his jick can play. Y'all know I know exactly what you're talking about.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna go watch. I'm gonna go watch, you know what I'm saying? Because I gotta, you know, he gets shooted though, so yeah. I ain't gonna get nobody's car report up, but he can shoot because all the rest of y'all coaches be in the gym. So Coach, we ain't used to me at the middle school, man.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna go to Newsom Runner games. I gotta get them to go, I gotta get them to not go to go never man.
SPEAKER_01Coach, I gotta go. Coach, I gotta go, because you know it'd be coaches around here passing out cars and stuff. They be telling kids that's my number one draft pick. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_03That's bad. They doing that, coach. That's bad, man.
SPEAKER_01You know who it is.
SPEAKER_03Coach, if they do it, you know who it is, man. But it's all good. Because they doing that, coach. Yeah, man. You gotta worry about you gotta worry about middle school, man. That's a lot. Because I can't do it exactly. You know, the only the only I feel the only um coaches that should be worried about middle school is the girl coaches. That's it. If you're a girl coach and you just I mean, Mainland probably don't, because you know a lot of those girls just gonna end up going there from Campbell and other schools. If you another girl, like you you had Seabreeze, Creek, News Lamurna. Well, Loose Murray got a lot of girls over at the high school now, but before that, man, you gotta make sure you locked in with the middle school just to try to keep something going. But it's different, though. The boys told it shouldn't be in no damn middle school game, passing out cars and all that stuff, and flyers to their camps and all kinds of crazy stuff. Oh, you know, I got a camp coming up this June. Oh, yeah, I got a camp. Yeah, I got a camp. I'm gonna start posting my stuff up here, get it ready. I'm supposed to. Everybody else do it. But my camp is different, though. My campaign like they camp though. Supposed to, right? My camp different, bro. We've got an emphasis on defense. It's a defensive camp, so kids might not come. But if a parent's smart, they'll send their kids to a defensive camp. See what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_01Coach, it's it's funny, man. Like, you know, that like I was at I was at those games today. I went over to mainland and watched the game, and I just happened to be, it was like seminal hoop versus some team from Jacksonville, I think it was. Yeah. Eighth grade team. Jacksonville had two dudes, about six four, six five. They was 20 to nothing. And then it and then they out there playing zone on this team, and they got the big, the big tall dude on the top. Every time they throw the ball, he steal it, go down court, damn near dunking the ball. And so, and so like I had to leave, man, because like all you hear, because I was sitting right, I was sitting on the front row, yeah, all the parents were behind me. Man. It's bad, ain't it? Oh, I'm like, come on, man. Like, when that team lined up to go out there, they knew y'all knew what time it was. Y'all knew y'all could compete. But coach, because everybody got a team. And the thing was, it was like another coach's coaching, and I think one of the parents said something to the effect of where the other coach at? So it didn't matter because even when he came, it got worse. It don't matter. Like, don't blame the coach because your dog old young fella can't play.
SPEAKER_03And if they can't play, they maybe they ain't supposed to be playing against that. Nah, that was on the radar, wasn't it? On the radar, sure enough. Oh, yeah, you can't just go on the radar, man.
SPEAKER_01Nah, sure. There was some big like I even asked Joe when I got up like this middle school. There was some big old big old judges.
SPEAKER_03They all some of them just naturally juggies and might be six, four, six, five, and eighth grade, but coach, they reclassing kids by the boatload, they doing all that. And on the radar, coach on the radar might be the the number one independent circuit in the country. Yeah, so you're gonna you can't go in there with no little area team with your little five third and fourth. We can't do that, coach.
SPEAKER_01You're blown up. Coach, all right. So so you brought it up. Let's let's talk about this re-class stuff, right? Yeah. Um, and so it's extremely frustrating to me because I'm watching guys okay, I'm watching parents top their kid as he killing, he's having a great year. And then you go back and reclass him. If he's killing, why are you reclassing?
SPEAKER_03Coach, I sent I sent Coach Jenkins something today, and it was the craziest thing I seen. I'm not gonna give you the details, Coach, you know, but it was a kid that reclassed, coach, and I know for a fact this kid is supposed to be graduating this year.
SPEAKER_00That's nuts.
SPEAKER_03But they had him as 2028, coach. I mean, I mean they had this jet back two times. Twice.
SPEAKER_01That's nuts.
SPEAKER_03You probably had a young, he probably was super young and they held him back and they just did it again, coach.
SPEAKER_01Coach, let me tell you something. If you are bad, coach, I'm gonna tell you this right here, and this is no knock to anybody because you do what you want to do with your jet. If you are reclassing off a kid that's under six feet tall, actually under six, three, six, four. It's still gonna be hard. Coach, listen.
unknownI was.
SPEAKER_01Oh, them just did, coach. Coach, that's not even it. Think about Illinois that won the championship. I mean that managed to the final four. Coach, everybody on their team from across the water. Yeah, you said that online, yeah. Everybody last name is an I see Ick. Murkovich. You know what I'm saying? Petrovic. Everybody's coach, and then they coach they got full beers like me, coach. It don't matter. Like, listen, this is a public service announcement to all these kids and these parents and these coaches. There's more than one way to go to college. You can go to college without playing sports.
SPEAKER_03You can, coach.
SPEAKER_01You can do your schoolwork. Do your schoolwork and get in the dude. You do your schoolwork and get in the dude. You can go to college without playing sports. Number two, when y'all are making decisions for basketball-related purposes, understand what college coaches are looking for. They're not looking for five, ten guards that want a gun.
SPEAKER_05No.
SPEAKER_01It ain't gonna happen. They're not looking for six, nine guys that can just put their back to the basket. They want you to be able to go out there and shoot. The game has changed. And like people have to understand that. Like, granted, I don't like I was talking to the pastor today, you know, because he's the one that keeps me from going off the ledge. And he said, Coach, the reason why you can't ever get kids because you don't be selling the dream. I'm not about to lie to no kid, and then four years from now, their parents mad at me because you said if we come to Seabreeze, you can go, you can get us in college. I can't get you in college.
SPEAKER_03Coach, I can't either. They know I'll tell them the truth, Coach.
SPEAKER_01Like, Coach is real coach. Back when we were in school, it was a little bit easier. It's hard, man. Like, it's hard. Back when we was in school, if you scored a thousand points, you damn there was D1.
SPEAKER_03Now you get a thousand points, but everybody got a thousand points.
SPEAKER_01Coach, it's hard, man. Like, I be sitting back, look, listen to me, yeah. I want to go. Everybody got a thousand points, not coach. So, a question that I asked you on text the other day. Would you rather go low major D1 and be a role player, or would you rather go to D2 and be a Division II All-American? You said Division I.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because I mean, but I say that because I just know the like bro, like these the the parents code, bro, they they not they not really everybody is so strong on going D1, bro. Like, that's just what it is, bro. Everybody feels like they got that jit. But me personally, you get what I'm saying? I'd rather go D2 and then rock out and play, bro. You might go like Devin George, man. Went D3 and went all the way to the league, bro. Now they better get to a school where you can play at it, just get film and just get numbers, and people start talking about how good you. You get what I'm saying? Yeah, no doubt. Because what happens now is the portal, Colt. Them kids out doing big time schools that ain't playing, they get in the portal and they going somewhere else to play or dropping down to play. It's just it's tough out here, not coach. It's tough, Colt.
SPEAKER_01No doubt about it. Yeah. I'm trying my my daughter, she does. You want to get in so like so like she control us.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01Hold on. Because she be she be tripping, because she wants she be talking all that junk, all that junk about my dukes.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, she got to tonight, coach. You thought y'all was gonna win too. I did. Yeah, I was selling out. Because you thought y'all was gonna win too. I got I'm so glad, dude, lost that game, bro. Like, no, I was I was having you know, I've been having a rough couple weeks, man. I'm glad that made my last boy. I don't know. Oh, yeah, bro.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, especially since you told me who team okay.
SPEAKER_03Nah, coach, it's just coach, it's bad. I am man, coach is bad. Coach, it's bad. Hey, where's the middle school championship gonna be at? The west side at D- Land this year. It was on the east side last year, right? Yeah, I think it was uh where was it at last year? News Tamarna, yeah. It's at Newsomor. The high school, News Murray Beach High School.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was. Yeah, so it's gonna be. Yeah, because they or probably no, because D-land always holds. So it might be Pine Ridge or something.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, I gotta talk to Henry, see if I can get if I can pull that uh that grill up, start the grilling hot dog, make me some money out the booster club. Henry, I need to pull my little pull my grill up, man. If y'all get the middle school ticket.
SPEAKER_01Oh Lord.
SPEAKER_03Henry gonna be out there with some slab out there.
SPEAKER_01I'm trying to tell you, Cody, because you think I'm joking. I'm not going to no place and paying no money if people ain't feeding us. I'm not doing it.
SPEAKER_03Coach, when we was at Calvary, Coach, everywhere we went, we had food, Cole. That's what I'm trying to tell you. I'm not doing it. Because they had spreads for us, Code.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I had spending all this, man. No,$200 for two gang man, get out of here. Because I'm going to two tournaments in Jacksonville.
SPEAKER_03Jacksonville be lit, man. You see they on how they're doing their all-star game.
SPEAKER_01We gotta see if we're gonna do the all-star game. Coach, they done had two of them. The reps on reps one was last weekend. Now they haven't.
SPEAKER_03Kids gotta wanna do the hoops and heads it's all-star game, man. Either it's gonna be juniors versus seniors or seniors, juniors, however you want to do it. We gotta put it together, man, for the Jits, man.
SPEAKER_01Coach, I'm gonna say this, and this is gonna probably make you mad. I think, I think all them young boys that just graduate or or seniors, they can care less about basketball.
SPEAKER_03I mean, if for an RSK, they might pull up for that though, Coach. That's true. They might pull up for that. You know, last time, you know, someone just, you know what I mean? I think they'll pull up for that. We just gotta put the poll back out there, man.
unknownI can't.
SPEAKER_03No, let's do code.
SPEAKER_01I don't mind it. Let's do it, man.
SPEAKER_03But like I said, because I was like, You gotta get a date before I can get the unis, man.
SPEAKER_01You know, I got the fresh unis, man. I showed them to you, man. Hey, somebody was asking me today, Code, you don't look like you really I'm not. Like I'm not, I don't miss it yet. You know what I'm saying? And and then maybe once I get in the gym or we line something up. I might coach. But right now, Code, I'm coaching, man.
SPEAKER_03I'm just when I tell you I'm in chill mode, boy. Chill, man. That's what I say, boy. I'm chilling.
SPEAKER_01And I've been reading post that people got their kids back in the gym, they working. I'm like, what y'all working for?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I am, boy. I ain't I ain't on it, bro. I'm chilling, but I ain't really got over the season yet, though.
SPEAKER_01No, same, same.
SPEAKER_03I'm just chilling, bro. I ain't boy. I ain't going around no basketball, no stuff like that, bro.
SPEAKER_01I asked, man, we just had our banquet on Tuesday, so I so we closed the chapter of the season. That's it. And now it's like I worked on the schedule.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we had all Thursday, so yeah. It's just yeah, so that's the thing.
SPEAKER_01I had to close the season first. Now we're working now. I worked on the schedule. I think I got like 21 games on there. Um, now I'm working on the summer stuff, just trying to figure out what we're gonna do. I'm not running all over all over the freaking state of Florida playing no basketball. All right, man. Oh, gas dollars a gallon, almost five. I can't do it, man. I cannot do it.
SPEAKER_03Oh, that's you can't run around with that gas. Not gas fired on. Can't do it, man. So I'm just trying to, you know. Why don't you do something that's sea breeze? All right, do a little summer league. Uh get in Joe's summer league then.
SPEAKER_01Oh, like if I do that, I'm gonna uh uh because I mean I got coach that's every Tuesday and Thursday. Like I'm not tying up my days. I think coach what I'm really thinking is that I'm only gonna play on the weekends. Probably on I know Embry Riddle is the fifth, five, six, and seven. Oh, June? June. Um, I'm going to O'Cala Forest the end of May. Because they do a summer league up there. And you know what it costs?$2.50 for seven games. And it's a real live shootout. Like you're playing for Would you just stay up there one night, play? We go, we'll go play Friday, we'll go come back, go Saturday, come back, and then we play pool play on Sunday. Like going all that driving, dog. Okay, only an hour. I can pump that. I pump that every day for work.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_01But that depends on you know how many coaches I got. So, like, I'm not, and then like, if I can only have one or two coaches for J V, I mean one or two coaches all summer, unfortunately, I'm not gonna be able to do nothing for the young kids. I'm not bringing 50 kids in the gym like I did last year by myself. I cannot do it.
SPEAKER_03No, you can't do it. I'm not doing none of that coach. Only way I'll do that if I'm a head coach. Assistant coach, I'm just gonna wait till the basketball season and start doing stuff.
SPEAKER_01So I'll try to do my own.
SPEAKER_03Not finna be doing everything, bro. It ain't a head coach. I know I learned my lesson.
SPEAKER_01All my coaches that are um actually doggone that's still here, I'm gonna meet with them probably this week and kind of see what everybody's schedule look like. But if it's looking like it's gonna be just me, I'll rock out with my 1112 varsity guys. That's it. Yeah? I'm not I'm not doing all that because I was dead tired last year.
SPEAKER_03Coach, you know it's probably like one, two, three, four. It's probably four middle school kids that might average 20 points a game this year, co.
SPEAKER_01And there's not enough time in the in the middle school game for a kid to average 20 points. So if I'm telling you that, Caden Jacques is gonna average 20 points a game, Cole.
SPEAKER_03King, King at Camel will average 20 points a game. Malachi is gonna average 20 points a game. And Quinn from Newsom will average 20 points a game, co.
SPEAKER_01Are they all eighth graders?
SPEAKER_03King and Malachi seventh grade. They tough coach. They tough coach. They tough coach. He's they're absolutely gonna do that. Caden's gonna get that. I mean, but he'll point, but now Mal might not be at the point as much because they got Cam Ford, he'll good little player over there, too. He's a real good player, actually. So, but I think King, King's probably gonna have a tournament. Well, damn, they got Caden Davis over there, too.
SPEAKER_01I'm I'm that's here. No, I ain't putting Henry on here.
SPEAKER_03Nah, Henry, he's ready to get on, man. He's ready to get on. Put him on, Coach. See if he got that middle school uh championship game. Who got it? I bet D Land got it. I'll call Bath, tell Bath to pull my girl up outside, man.
SPEAKER_01Make some money.
SPEAKER_03Couple guys that couple code, I got code. So you know they passed the law, right? With the booster clubs, can pay you um you go with this craziness, coach. Coach is it's not, it's it's it's in the law. They passed it in the law. Jimbo Fisher, Jimbo Fisher passed, got it, did the legislator, got it passed in the law. Coach, I can't do nothing unless I'm getting paid, man. That's the they're they're they're basically saying that now. Coach, think about all the time that you spend with the kids. No, because it's a lot. So like like Ben Ferris, so now that they pass it into law, and I know we have a booster club, because I can't do nothing unless I get paid, bro. Like for like what you said, gas high, especially if you're the only one gonna be doing it. Yeah, man, doing that. Hey, I'm not doing it unless I get paid, co. That's a very good. It's a lot, and so that's the thing like I'm not going to Jacksonville, Georgia.
SPEAKER_01I never go to North Carolina, and I'm not going, bro. Because that's the thing. So, like when you sit down with your coaches, like like I'm gonna let my coaches know, like, if you are not planning to work all summer, then you're never gonna get a host typing for me again. That's how it is. I can't do it. No, don't do like this is a year-round job. Like, just because I'm the head coach, and listen, if you can't work out kids in the summer, go to, and there's only one month, coach, it's just June. If you can't, let me make sure everybody sees my finger. If one thing, if you can't do that, bro, like I can't.
SPEAKER_03Coach, but for me, like, just for me, like, with all the I don't need I'm not doing all having all that responsibility, bro. Not getting paid, bro. Not gonna end up doing this, doing that, doing this, going here, going here, going there, and be the one that's in charge of all those things when I'm done. No, I'm not doing that less I get paid. They said that that's what they can do. Break bread. Football, any sport, break bread with your coach again, boost the club, break bread with your coaches.
SPEAKER_01Coach, football is football is football.
SPEAKER_03Football's gonna get crazy with that coach.
SPEAKER_01Coach, football acts for a lot too. You know what I'm saying? Because like it's the amount of time, if you want to be, and this is the thing that I've learned. If you want to be a quality program, you gotta work all year round. And it's a little different for teachers because they don't work in the summer, so you can kind of move and shake a little bit. I still have a full-time job, and rushing over here, nah, but nah, nah.
SPEAKER_03Hey, hey, good boy, they don't pass that in the law, boy. I know people finna get off with that, boy. On football court of boy, you gotta break bread, bro. For real, you gotta pay now. You gotta pay your coaches, man. If you got good coaches, and your coaches gotta be available, but not just for free. Run around summer and all that, man. Follow me. Oh, he wanna get on. Put put but put them on. Let me see if I can put that grill up. Coach, you always try to gotta get money to boost the club, man. We can do that now. Coach, you know, this is a couple kids that's under the radar that's really good, too. I gotta give them a shout out because you know, my middle school guys, man. They don't that's basically my fan base. Get what I'm saying? They they look at the coach agent. Lucas Hannah, he goes to Creekside and Avery. Oh, he and Ace come in the Creek coach. He can play. He can play. Creekside Cougars, man. That's my school. They fired me, man, but that's still my school. I still support. I was the girl coach, they fired me on part of the fire coach. You got fired on your day off, huh? Coach on the fuck coach. I got fired. You gotta be able to take getting fired and keep it moving, coach. Get what I'm saying. I think if they can go back though, they would have kept me though. We would have had a middle school girl championship, but You know what I'm saying? But you know, I got fired. Henry, gonna get on.
SPEAKER_01He's just he said, let me. He wants to come on right now. I'm about to mess with him. I'm about to say, here's the here is the king of daddy ball. The daddy ball king.
SPEAKER_03Hey, here code man Pyrie host the middle school championship this year.
SPEAKER_02I don't know, are we?
SPEAKER_03He don't know. I was gonna ask if it's why I was gonna pull my grill up, man. Try to make me some money out there. The middle school championship. Hey, if they want to ball you, I got this awarders just for you. You want one?
SPEAKER_02What'd it say?
SPEAKER_03Oh, you know what? He's trying to coach you got a digital championship shirt on, coach.
SPEAKER_02Oh, he better enjoy it.
SPEAKER_03What that means?
SPEAKER_02Better enjoy it. Hey, coach, coach. Hey, you know I'm I'm I'm back on AU. I'm recruiting.
SPEAKER_01Why I can't because I'm a report. I'm gonna report your ass. You can't say that.
SPEAKER_02If I just know how many people is emailing the FA SAA right now.
SPEAKER_03They don't care, Coke. No, they don't care. People been recruited, Coke. But they ain't recruit nobody. I gotta, I gotta, I'm getting ready for AA.
SPEAKER_00I just want you to see this.
SPEAKER_01Y'all told me I was gonna get ready for AAU. Wait a minute. Hold on, AJ. I need to get this off live in the color. The last time he was on here, I told you what we was gonna do.
SPEAKER_03Coach, they had one good season in 20 years. Now he's gonna show off his shirt every day. He loves no. We had us a good year last year. He wouldn't let me do it. Uh oh, hell no. He better be glad I ain't win.
SPEAKER_00What did you say? I better be glad you ain't win. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Underwear, everything.
SPEAKER_03Hey, here you gotta see if y'all got that middle school championship, but we gotta get this booster club going, boy. I'ma find out. I'm gonna find out tomorrow morning.
SPEAKER_01All you gotta do is ask the holder, coach. Coach is a word.
unknownI ain't gonna do that.
SPEAKER_01D-Lay the only one ever asked, but the one thing they do over there, them freaking middle school kids being that gym. You make a lot of money over there. So that's my gym coach.
SPEAKER_03That middle school champion, boys and girls, and one, yeah. They're getting that bread. That's why I asked you that, coach. Coach, who the best middle school team over there? This is our middle school episode, man.
SPEAKER_02You asking me?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, over there.
SPEAKER_02I don't have a coach.
SPEAKER_01Coach, he daddy ball. He the king. That's what he said. He said, Coach, I was listening to him on a coach. I was listening to him on one of them Jacksonville podcasts. He said, You can't be daddy ball unless your kid is good. If your kid ain't good, you can't be daddy. I say daddy.
SPEAKER_02What do you want to hear from what? I'm I'm like the college coaches now. I don't want no middle school kids. I want all my shit about the portal. I don't want no middle school kids.
SPEAKER_00You say you don't want no nine.
SPEAKER_03I'm trying to build something like Duke, man.
SPEAKER_02Man, listen, dog. I'm sick about that game, dog. Uh oh. You can't be bro.
SPEAKER_03Just hold the ball. I'm selfish. I'm trying to go to the free throw line.
SPEAKER_01That's what I just told AJ.
SPEAKER_03I'm like, bro, but we talk basketball. I'm telling you, they practice pitching in the head. That's why that boy did that. Oh, you asked me. Coach, but that's what coach. I get what you're saying, but okay, you keep talking about fire him. Fire Florida coach. I was on Florida Coach down to go. Because that was that Florida coach was worse because he put his kids in the worst position.
SPEAKER_02He out there pressing. Hey, that man said, Hey, I know what the analytics say. We pressing.
SPEAKER_01And I'ma file him. Because he literally said in the press conference that he was gonna file they can go in overtime.
SPEAKER_02Bro, when when he said that in the press conference, dog, I was like, bro, you you you fishing. You was better off not saying nothing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, man.
SPEAKER_03Coach Dangers made a play.
SPEAKER_02It was turned into three and the two. Hey man, that he he wanted them coaches to be at the big house. That's what that is. That's that big that's that big house coach.
SPEAKER_03Coach, you were just talking about that stuff you see today.
SPEAKER_02My boy said I'm pressing.
SPEAKER_03Coach, I don't know, man. They gotta get, I don't know. It's bad out here though. But yeah, I would try to figure out who would host the middle school game. I'm telling them, AD tomorrow, we want it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, coach.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, get that copper. Right off 415. You right there about 415. Let this boy pull up. All I want to do is sell a couple of hot dogs and hamburgers outside. You go come on.
SPEAKER_01Go go sell that mess at Creek.
SPEAKER_03I ain't selling nothing that creek. I'm trying to go. I'm the booster club. I ain't selling nothing that creeco. Coach I ain't listening. Coach before you got off, Coach. He tried to get around. Hey, coach. What what what coach I can um back door over there to get me a job over there? What coach I can back though in there with that with man?
SPEAKER_02You ain't even got the back door. Walk in through the front door. Hey man, I hey walk in through the front door and be like, Look, if you ain't won nothing in the last five years, dog, you gotta go. They might be like, You're right. You gotta go.
SPEAKER_01Hey, he ain't got to go too far for that. They ain't one boy.
SPEAKER_03It's bad out here. I just gotta, I just you know, my I just gotta start start doing it, man. I ain't gonna never get on, man. If I don't do it, man. Who I can pick who I can pick up over there. I think Baz about through over there. Baz about through. He about D man? Yeah, I mean Baz McGob, but I think he might be through. I think I can get what I'm saying. I gotta pick off one of the thumbs through.
SPEAKER_02Man, go talk to my dog. You might be right. Nah, Baz might be a big thing.
SPEAKER_03I don't know. He's mad. He probably mad. He probably is about uh you don't even know how you're gonna get in the playoff this year.
SPEAKER_02Man, it's it's a it's a few people.
SPEAKER_03They said who you telling they said that they switching up the uh championship thing, though. They say it's gonna be two different brackets.
SPEAKER_02Man, that's dumb, dog. My thing is no matter people be crying and wanting to change it, then when they change it, they cry about the changes.
SPEAKER_03Come on, coach, because I was sick, but I'm like, it is what it is, man. Like, but no, bro, like there's no way because as Winter Park, yeah, not Winter Park, Lake Murray get all the way to the final four and got to play Columbus.
SPEAKER_02No, put it like this. This this is my take on the right. Everybody, they they be crying talking about man, them schools get to recruit from all over the all over the school.
SPEAKER_03Everybody can recruit now, you're right.
SPEAKER_02Guess what? You know what my response be? Hey man, whoever you got doing your recruiting for you on the public school side, you need to fire them because they're getting the wrong kids. Stop crying and fire. And just fire you some kids. Yeah, you got yeah, man. Fire some jigs.
SPEAKER_01You gotta fire you some kids, dog. Hey, they told me today that that the village just got the seven footer from freaking IMG or something.
SPEAKER_02Hey man, all I'm saying is, you know, we we we trade man, right? Oh, yeah, I don't that might be true, dog. Because hey, that man, but we we had training count this weekend. Man, that man had he had they he he was getting treatment. Said I'm like, hold on. Then I said, Oh, I forgot. He I think he he might be coming here. Yeah, it is bro. Listen, dog, we bro, we had training count this weekend, right? For Trey Man. Dog, we had six Africans in there. They say them Africans old, bro. The shortest one, hey man, I don't know how old it is, and I don't care when I see the paperwork, it says they 14, 15. So all of them gonna be playing 17, you with y'all? Heck nah. They we got two on, we got two on 17s, two on 16s, and two on 15s.
SPEAKER_01All right, don't be there about it, man. Wait a minute, because help me understand. So Trey Man just signed with Reebok, right? Or something in for Reebok? So how's he still doing the pullman thing?
SPEAKER_02It's because contract, bro. Yeah, but you gotta remember, but for one, reebok ain't got no circuit. Not yet. Yeah. So, like, it it ain't Trey Man, it's it's just TME Elite. Okay. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_01Makes sense. I was like, because I remember because I remember reading something where like he had just signed and got a nice little, he got a nice little Reebok deal.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he got Reebok and he's still doing pulling.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Hey, still, baby boy, he's hungry out there, man, because he posted where they had them, they don't dropped him down like 56 nationally, which is still fucking phenomenal, but thing.
SPEAKER_02But hey, he took it out on somebody today in practice too, dog. On somebody? Boy. And it wasn't like it wasn't just a dunk. Like West Sound like a 12 gauge went off in the gym.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, somebody said he I know he gotta be mad about it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he hot about that, dog. Where he went from? Where was he at? 30. He was like, well, when they joined, he was like, he was top 30 everywhere. Yeah, he was top 30 everywhere. He didn't play last year, though, did he? Bro, he bro, he ain't even go back. Like, they ain't bringing back the USA this time. Yeah, he's sick.
SPEAKER_01Well, I know he's gonna, I know he out there going, he's gonna go crazy on the summertime.
SPEAKER_02So who all who took his place with USA? Man, I don't know. They bring, you know, it's it's minute count. He ain't go back to the minute count. Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. So I don't know. He'll probably get, they'll probably bring him back to training count when they get ready to pick the team for the summer. So what's the plug on that uh USA? Well, I couldn't tell you. I'm trying to figure it out. Because when I figure it out, we're gonna have a Velusa County kid going all the time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah, that's crazy.
SPEAKER_02No, we ain't.
SPEAKER_01Ain't nobody going out there. We ain't got we got one good, we got one top 50 kid.
SPEAKER_02Well, you're not listening to me, dog. I'm recruiting, dog. You can't be telling the kids. You can't, coach. What about the what about the kids that's already at your school? Hey man, what they do in college? They recruit on top of your head. What they do in college. Like, I you know, we be joking and playing, but dog, I tell my kids every day, hey boy, you don't know who's gonna walk in the gym, though. Like, real, like seriously, like on some serious right now, not me just joking. You don't know who's gonna walk in the gym, dog. Yeah, kid kids move, parents move, uh, divorces happen. Hey, man, next thing you know, a dude walk in and he and he can boogie. Hey boy, when are y'all in trouble? Oh, that's real. That's how it's supposed to be, though. It's supposed to be like that.
SPEAKER_03It's supposed to be like they gotta be competition still now. Cause get what happened, get what happened. The parents tried to take it over, the parents tried to take it over. Yeah, no, and I don't yeah, the parents tried to take it over. I get what you're saying, they tried to take it over. Yeah, that's that's the new age. They feel like they can take it over and run your whole program. Some coaches let them do that, y'all know that, right?
SPEAKER_02They do, that'd be the and that'd be the problem.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that'd be the biggest problem, coach.
SPEAKER_02Can't put nobody on the bench, trying to play everybody, all type of mess. But they like to they like the they like to comply to the a they go cry to your A D, they go cry to the principal, and you know how I handled all that? I'd be like, hey, you got two choices. You fire me, or that kid still gonna be on the bench, which I want to do. And now that you done brought it to my attention, uh You really ain't getting in. He de bro, he they finna really hate life. Coach, because now the whole team got to suffer. Every time he messed up, get on the line.
SPEAKER_03What what why do you think it's like that though? You think it's just the generation out to where the parent think they know more than the coach and think they can get the coach in trouble if they just go to the school and that's all that stuff like that?
SPEAKER_02That's part of it, dog. The parent, the parents, a lot of times the parents is the biggest, the biggest issue. It don't always just be it don't be it don't really be the kid, dog. The mamas and daddies be thinking, oh my, my child this and my child that and my man, have you not you're not watching the games. For real. Yeah, we're watching to see if a kid can get in and as coaches, bro, it's on us too because coaches have gotten so soft over the years. Yeah, bro. Jokers is hard, they scared the coach hard. I believe that. Because of the that's how right trip me this year. Because I because of the the the drawback you get from coaching hard. Like people be like, oh man, he he he this and he that. First of all, you don't know me. You don't know me. I got kids that I coached 15, 20 years ago that call me to this day. I done been to weddings, um, but I all kinds, you know what I'm saying? And they'll tell you, man, you watching him as just coaching. You got you not around him. You got to be around me to know who I am. And some of them I don't even some of the parents I don't want around me. I don't like y'all. I don't even know. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Bro, like the parents, the parents will try to get you. They try to get me, man, but they can get me. This is their own thing.
SPEAKER_02No, they they because bro, these sometimes parents be forgetting though, bro. You think I wasn't always a coach? You ain't known me before I got into coaching. Man, I would take you out back and slap the piss out your mouth. Coach, you can't come over on the podcast, coach.
SPEAKER_03Coach, okay, this out coach, this out, this is our middle school. Um wait, wait, wait, wait. It's gonna tie to what we're talking about. What advice would you give the uh middle school parents as their kids get ready to, you know, a couple years be in high school? What advice would you get to the middle school?
SPEAKER_02The first thing, the first thing you got to do as a parent is be real. How good is my child? How really, how good is my child for real? And don't base it off these local tournaments that you go to team where the competition is terrible, and and little man, man, killing, he ain't killing man. Look what he's killing. He ain't killing nobody.
SPEAKER_03That's true. I was just talking to one of our coaches today, and he was just like, Well, he had lost a kid because he didn't want to play with us no more, and he wanted to go play, and he's going to play with his dad, and his dad, we see looked up their schedule, and it's all dynasty stuff, bro.
SPEAKER_02That's the problem, dog.
SPEAKER_03So the dad, eighth grade, like oh my god, 6'5, 6'6.
SPEAKER_02This was gonna happen. Wow. He that and this is a local kid. Is this a local kid? Ma, ma. This is what happens with kids like that. See, the dad, the daddy tripping, right? You instead of you letting him play on the shoe circuit, you want him to play with you on the on the on the D3, D4 circuit. All right. So you bring him with you, and he's killing all summer, right? Yeah, he comes back to high school. He got to play Pine Ridge, he got to go at Henry Robertson Jr. He ain't never seen it before. Yeah. He ain't never seen it before, yeah. And now guess what? And June Junior on some on something else right now, because he's mad at the world. Yeah. He snatched your son's soul. Daddy, that's your fault. Yeah, yeah. Bro, because I'm I'm I'm telling people now, bro. If you got a chance for your kid to play, I don't care if it's under armor, new balance, if you get to play on the shoe circuit, do it. You got to do it. Especially if he's gonna play.
SPEAKER_01Wait a minute, wait a minute. Let me back y'all up because see, I'm gonna have to fight against that a little bit. So, as a ninth grader and a 10th grader, do you guys think that that's important to play on one of those sneaker teams where you're playing maybe 10 minutes a game or like a local team that like you can play 30 minutes a game?
SPEAKER_03Coach is true circuit teams. I'm gonna tell you why. I just coach I'm gonna just give my opinion from what I experienced from coaching around the local stuff and this and that. One, the the game has changed, everything has become NIL. When you break NIL down, it's individualized, right? Also, with that, it's image. There's no bigger image than a shoe company team. Those college coaches not going to that other stuff, coach. Well, see, this is what I'm saying. So a lot of a lot of a lot of people a lot of a lot of those public kids only having seven, eight kids on the coach.
SPEAKER_01Coach, we don't have we don't have probably four or five really good dudes around here, but ain't none of them going to school. You're not going to school just because you play on the kids. Okay, oh, oh, oh, hold up, coach. I'm finna watch this now. Watch this now. Name a name away. Oh, let me stop you. Name a kid other than Henry Robinson Jr. in this area who has a power five.
SPEAKER_03Coach, I'm finna give you the history. The history of the kids that has went. Mr. Jordan Spears played for Adidas, right? Right? Yo, Connect put him on. Let's just talk facts now. Blake Henson and all them, right? Because their daddy was a college coach, yes. But he played on the shoe circuit, coach. Right?
SPEAKER_01No, he played with he played with no, he played with Diane.
SPEAKER_03Uh-huh. So think about what I'm telling you. The proof is in there. Not saying that every kid gets to play on those teams. But if Jordan was at the time when he was getting on killing what, 5'9, 5'8. Now, Jordan, uh, NBA type jit. Now, so it's a different. I ain't saying everybody could just do that. But what I'm saying is, look at all the kids. Even look at um RJ. You see what I'm saying? Those kids play all the kids in this area that played on those shoe company teams, coach, all along with division one right out of high school.
SPEAKER_02The reason why, the reason why what I'm saying is what I'm saying is if the kid is good, right? And he can play, and you and you at a shoe circuit, you own it you you own one of the shoe teams, and you're gonna play, you're in that, you top, you in that top six, top seven, right?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You got to do it. You gotta do it. Now, like you said, now but now if hey, if you want to go play on one of them less teams where you can play all the minutes and you get to shoot all the balls, this, that, and the third, okay, but is that gonna help you when you get back to your school team as well? Or like, because what now what's your role with your school team? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And see, because your school team might not come in there so you get to shoot every ball. No, but listen though, that's why I asked that question, because I I listened to a podcast where Gilbert Arenas said he had a chance to take his son to one of them academy schools, too. But he left his son in a regular public school, kind of like what Henry's doing. Yeah. Because he he needs to learn how to handle everything. Yeah, and you need to learn how to handle boxing ones and tracking twos and being face guarded the whole game. When you go to one of those sneaker teams in the summer, you you're playing with four other guys that can really get it done. So, like you're really not facing no adversity, so it's not making you better.
SPEAKER_03But it's not making me better, though. But in a sense, it is making you better because, like he just said, if you go to the lesser team, right, and you get to shoot the ball every possession, every ball, you the best player, you win in the dynasty, you win the super six, you win in the the criminal hoops, you win in all of that, right? Now, as an eighth grader, because we this is our middle school episode. Now your mama daddy think, oh, he's tough, he's tough. So now they say, off center, go to seabreeze. And guess what? The mindset is gonna be gonna be the shoot. I'm gonna get to shoot every ball. And you know, eighth grade this, going out playing with everybody you got back, that kid ain't gonna be the best kid at Seabreeze to be able to do that. Yeah, I agree. But so it's a gift, and because I get what you're saying, but so like coach saying, like kids' parents in middle school gotta know that, bro.
SPEAKER_01You gotta play on the same. Okay, okay, coach, here it is right here. So as a night, as a kid going to the ninth grade, because I'm having this conversation with my ninth grade kid, okay. All the weekend, if you're the best player on the team on a on a uh shooting, you're probably gonna get 15 to 20 shots a game. Most AAU tournaments, you're playing four games. So you're getting anywhere from 60 to 80 shots. Whereas you can go sit in the gym and go put up 250 shots a day. You're not getting better by playing on those teams, especially when you're young. When you get to be in the 10th grade, now is me. Now you need to start trying to get out of the way.
SPEAKER_03Coach, but that's that's why I brought up the NIL, the the different generations. Kids are getting offers, real major kids are getting offers before 10th grade. Because of the the equity they put in and the look what they're doing, the e why junior eyebl, the the the junior 3sb, the the the the the junior p32, the the stuff with Puma that's middle, all that stuff is before high school.
SPEAKER_01But coach, but you do know that any offer you get before the before your junior don't even matter, you just doing that for sure.
SPEAKER_03Because some of those offers, if you really like that, it's gonna be legit when it's time, coach.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna tell you let me tell you something that my college coach friend taught taught told me. I can literally put on my on my team page right now, Jerry is blessed to get an offer from North Carolina, yeah. And North Carolina coach won't even say that he didn't offer that because You never know, you never know. You never know. So I can throw anything up there, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So it don't coach real coaches, don't do that, Coach. You know, but the down, but the but the downside to that is when you do it for certain kids, right? And I can and I'm not gonna name no names or whatever, but for certain kids, when you say I ain't never known you to be scary. No, uh no, I I'm not saying the name because I don't got a specific kid. What I'm saying is when Do it for certain kids, right? Other kids gonna be like, Oh man, you got it, you got North Carolina, you got this. The kid, the kids that's like that, and the people that's in the know gonna be like that's some BS. North Carolina did. So not you look bad, the kid look bad, your program look bad, you know what I'm saying? I agree with that. But but going back to what we was talking about too, though, yeah, it it you got to like I say, the parents got to be real and you got to know your kid, right? Like like coach, well, like Coach Gang saying, hey man, for some kids, yeah, it's gonna be better to go play on that smaller so you can get them game rep. But if you like that and you can play for real, it's like you said, man, you need to be with that shoe team that build your individual brand to get your name like that. So it depends on the on on the on the on the on the parent and the kid. But the thing like like we be saying, the parents and kids be the loser. They be everybody think that they LeBron James. Everybody's that safe.
SPEAKER_03Now the kid is six, six. Anything over six, four, six, five in middle school, you gotta play on the shoe circuit team. Everybody knows that. That's just facts. I don't with the film that everybody be sending me from the organization, the kid, I don't think he done dunked on a shoe circuit. Now he don't went to the couple of the dynasty tournaments.
SPEAKER_02He's getting two, three dunks a game. Hey, I'm gonna tell you, hey, now see, now like I said, that's why we got to know what we're dealing with. Like sometimes what happens is if you seeking that exposure, your kid ends up getting exposed. So now absolutely turns into man, he's sorry, he's sorry, he's sorry. Bro, it's hard to kick that he's sorry label. Cause now you got to you got to really, really go kill on a bigger label for an extended period of time before they be like, all right. This kid can play. I don't, I don't, I don't understand.
SPEAKER_01Well, okay, coach, coach, coach Robinson. Well, answer this for me. Yeah. When did you know your kid was good? Was it middle school?
SPEAKER_02Middle school. See? He was too, bro. But the thing about it is, you gotta think. So this is what happened with junior stuff, right? Fifth and sixth grade, it was he it wasn't like that. You see what I'm saying? He ain't jump, he ain't jump out there till he really ain't take off till seventh grade. That's when he lost that baby fat and he went to Dunkin' and everything. So you gotta think, 6'4, 7th grade, jumping out the gym, like the athleticism was on a whole nother level. And then what I had what I started doing, I was like, you know, because I'm trying to humble him. You know what? Hey, I'm gonna put you with my high school kids and make you play summer league with the high school team. I remember that. Uh, when he was doing it the high school kids in seventh grade, now it's it's like, okay, he legit. The eighth grade, middle school, seventh to eighth grade middle school ball was easy. He could do whatever he wanted. Did y'all tip that year? When? Middle school. Heck nah, man. Eighth grade, they could have won it, but they got in trouble because some of them stole some stuff. No, they canceled. So the rest the rest of the season got canceled. Is that when Nut done won? I thought it might be.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but Peanut done won. Oh, I didn't even know. I remember that. Oh, I don't. Uh somebody said something, but I was like, nah, that I was wondering who it was. Oh no, them jokes.
SPEAKER_02He was at the Delt on the Middle, right? Huh?
SPEAKER_01He was at Delta on the middle, right? I remember that.
SPEAKER_02They canceled the rest of the season? Yeah, I forgot what they played. Them jokers, they had like the box, a box of like the PE clothes in there. Yeah. Some of the like five or six of them went in there, took some shorts and a shirt and wore it to school the next day. And they got them. And the principal, she was like, we're just gonna cancel the season. I was mad, and some of the other parents were mad because Junior. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Some of the main guys didn't take nothing. It was the it was some of the bitch guys. And y'all was gonna chip with it. Y'all ain't need them, Coach.
SPEAKER_03You gotta stop doing that on the podcast. Thank you. This is the middle school episode, coach. You was gonna just play with five kids, just five starters, and win it still without the bitch.
SPEAKER_02Cool. I I kind of do it in high school. Ray, how how many people played against you? Six.
SPEAKER_03Oh, Ray on that, too. Oh, Ray on that.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I'm gonna cool.
SPEAKER_03Ray on that five. You don't care about none of that.
SPEAKER_02No, because this what happened, bro. When you listen to the parents and they be like, I think my child should be playing. And then you put him out there, and he goes out there and pissed down his leg. That mom and daddy don't say nothing then.
SPEAKER_01Coach, I'm gonna tell you I got a ninth grade parent who played softball, I think, in um in um in college. Her son is a freshman, and he's probably six four. He's gonna be good. And not one time, and I put him on varsity, he was playing a little spot minutes or whatever every now and again. Not one time did she ever come down there and say, why my son ain't playing? She said, Coach, I get it. He's not ready, but this practice is gonna make him better. So now next year, we're looking for him to kind of step in and be able to do some things, but like she was like, Coach, I get it. She said, I'm not one of them. And she sit up in the stands and work the concession stands, do whatever I need her to do, but she not one time complained. Then I got a kid that's in 11th grade, who was terrible, but you know, just for the sake of his, you know, I got a call from one of his relatives and I put him on. And the mom complaining. I said, You must you better go back and like talk to the dad so he can tell you what what's like really going on with this. Like, he wasn't supposed to be here.
SPEAKER_02You know what the problem is? And this this is the problem that all of us have, that, and you know, I'm I'ma always say it because all the other coaches, y'all be scared. So I'ma say it. The problem be, dog, the mama she she went, she ain't played. Mamas don't some of their mamas ain't never played no sport. Wasn't even a cheerleader. Yeah. And if the daddy played, he was sorry as hell. And them the ones you got trying to tell you, my son, hey man, I'm looking at this gene pool and his genetics. It ain't it ain't been a good player in y'all whole gene pool. Never ever. So, but you trying to tell me that your son finna go out there and score 30.
SPEAKER_01Oh, and like this is what I tell my parents. There's not a coach. Because we get paid pennies, there's not a coach in this area that don't want to win. So if your kid ain't playing, it's not because I don't want to win. I want to win. So I'm playing the kids that I want to win. I want to win. That's why when we play, when we played y'all coach, my I don't make no subs in the first quarter. My kids don't even look to get in the game. The first quarter of the year, I don't make no subs. We playing them five guys, whole games.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so I got a question for y'all to keep it on, you know, our little middle school night opening game start Tuesday. So, water, since we still we're talking about the parents, I can mess up a middle school, mess up their whole high school career. What are some of the things that y'all feel like the parents should be worried about with their middle school kids before they get to high school?
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna answer this. First of all, I told you number one that middle school stuff is terrible. That's just my take on it. Because they rushed the whole season, they put a whole bunch of games with no practice on, they don't work on anything. It's just all it is in middle school is who can press, who has the best athlete, they're gonna win the game. That's it.
SPEAKER_03So you're so you're so you say your kids should be ready for then. If they're really good, they should play.
SPEAKER_01Coach, there's no real basketball. So in middle school, right now, if you got two good guards in middle school, you can beat everybody. Because all they're gonna do is press. So you just gotta have two guys that can handle the ball that can get to the cup. Because when you go to the basket, no, you gotta be able to handle the ball and make free throws. Because when you go to the basket, they're gonna foul you. So all you gotta do is make a couple free throws. I'm telling coach, like it's like I hate to watch it because it's just like it's just no, I ain't telling y'all to go out there, man, and like you out there, man, and you got four or five sets. But you gotta be able to, I gotta be able to look, okay, do we know how to pivot? Most of the kids, coach, most of the kids backing everybody down like they barkly. Y'all, you can't do that in high school. Is that is that how is that what the style is over there on the west side?
SPEAKER_03It's the same shit. I I've never went and watched the game over there before.
SPEAKER_02Man, he's telling you, he's he's speaking on middle school, period. The most important thing for a parent right now, if your child is in 6th, 7th, 8th grade, finding him, him or her, somebody that's good at training, and these three years, you gotta just be working. I'm gonna be real. Work on their skill and their development, putting them with the right travel program, because that's what it's about. As far as he said with middle school, bro, first of all, you playing 16-minute halves. Well, and it's 16 running clock. Bro, come on, dog. Like, first of all, I'm gonna be real. Volusia County, I I I'm not even gonna blame the parents and the kids for middle school basketball. I believe I blame our county because that's dumb. That's what I said. It's 16 minutes, so you think it should be like a regular high school game. Yes. They should play seven or eight-minute quarters, real quarters, real basketball to get them ready. Bro, because you gotta think a 16-minute running clock and the way that you filing.
SPEAKER_04That's true. And it's all over quick.
SPEAKER_02It's all pressure, too. It's all pressing, it's all pressure. And like, like kick what what what what bro, it's practice.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's just practice.
SPEAKER_01And it's but then I'm gonna tell you this. When you when they get to high school, and like that's what I'm dealing with. Now, I have a really good freshman because I think he's gonna be good, but they don't understand pace. Everything's full. Everything is fast. Dude, that is that is not basketball. You can't fast break the whole damn game. Put it like this, AJ. I can't do it.
SPEAKER_02AJ, I'm I'm I'm gonna answer your question with a question in a sense. When y'all had y'all JV trials, right? How many of them guards were going 100 miles an hour, get to the cup and just throw it something? All of them. That's because they did in middle school. Because you pressing and it's just going full speed, and you hoping you get filed. Yeah, all right, yeah, all of them. See what I'm saying? So it's like the middle school side, it ain't I I'm not gonna blame the parents and the coaches and the kids. It's the county. Like, we got to fix, like, we got we they they gotta fix that. You know what I'm saying? Like, they're not playing real games. I'm not real games. Yeah, no, that's true. And and think about this. What time, what time them kids get out of school, middle school? Like 4 30? Like 4 30, then, yeah. Then they gotta play at five. You gotta play at 5 30. Not only that, bro. What in middle school, you get out at 4 30. When when are you gonna practice? The boys and girls are sharing the gym. They sharing the gyms, they sharing the outside.
SPEAKER_03No, that's that guy wasn't. I was at Crete's out, bro. It was um, we shared it, and then some days when you try out to put your press in and your press break in, one had to go inside and one outside. Thank you. Yeah, it's been like that. It's always been like that.
SPEAKER_02And that's the problem, bro. Like they're not getting no, they're not, they're not practicing for real. Yeah. They just went out the bro, it's like it's like in middle school, you basically go gotta sit there and watch all the gym classes, pick out the best gym class kids, and then say, hey, we just gonna we're gonna teach them how to press. If we got athletes, we can win some games. You can win. You can win.
SPEAKER_03That's why Campbell always be up in it. Campbell.
SPEAKER_02They got dudes over there. And now, and now when these kids get to high school, everybody mad at the high school coach. Like me and Ray, because we we we we screaming and and getting on everybody, it's because they can't play.
SPEAKER_01Coach, listen, this is what I told my JV coaches and all my coaches. Next year, so our whole JV team this year was freshmen. Yeah. Except for one. I said, if y'all can't envision this kid as a junior making varsity, we're gonna cut him in South Punch here. We're gonna have all freshmen again. We're not because if you keep them, then they expect to make varsity as a junior.
SPEAKER_02Expect it. Coach, I promise you. No, no, no, no. And guess who else expected? They parent, mama and daddy.
SPEAKER_01That's right. Coach, listen, I told my coach, I literally told my kids, if I don't see you being on varsity the next two years as a side.
SPEAKER_03Gotta get rid of them, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'm cutting you. I said, so we may have an all-new freshman, we may have another freshman JV team again, because I need to see guys getting better. And I told us, I'm not no, I I can't do it. I just can't do it.
SPEAKER_03So, do y'all do y'all think that the the parents in middle school, where do you think they go wrong at? The parents? Yes, with their kid that's in middle school. Where do they go in middle? I don't know.
SPEAKER_01No, I don't think it's the parents.
SPEAKER_03I think it's more it don't have to be like the middle school. No, no, no, no, no, no. What do they go wrong at most of the time?
SPEAKER_01Talking about the coaches, number one. As a middle school coach, all they're worried about, they're not worried about developing kids for high school. They're trying to win. So, which means they're gonna press, they're not gonna teach them any coach. I I had three middle school kids last year that didn't even know what a pivot was. That's crazy. Their middle school team won nine games or whatever the hell it was, and you don't even know what a pivot is. One on play, one of them played for Campbell. Like they was one was at Henson, so it wasn't just OBMS kids. They don't even understand. Don't do that. Don't do that to nothing, Jordan. Don't do that on that.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Coach, don't do that, man.
SPEAKER_01Coach, let's know. Coach, it's nothing wrong with it. The coaches in middle school are trying to win a middle school championship. They're not trying to teach the kids. So the time frame. Coach, if I was coaching OBMS, we wouldn't do nothing but fundamentals all day.
SPEAKER_03Well, coach, not hold it. Now I don't know what it is on the West side, though. A bunch of these coaches, that's on our side. They have a bunch of basketball clubs going on. So maybe it is on the coaches now.
SPEAKER_01Coach, listen, that's what I'm talking about. Those kids be going to those basketball clubs now. Coach. Think about what I'm saying, Coach. Coach, I hear you. Coach, I would not be doing. Like, I'm gonna try to win, but I'm not, I'll be teaching those kids how to play because when they get to high school, because just because you were the man in middle school, you get to high school, you still might not make the team.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, especially, yeah, yeah, it's a lot. Especially not no freshman basketball. Yeah, because we ain't got freshman basketball. We ain't got freshman basketball, but you gotta make you gotta be able to play with 11th graders.
SPEAKER_02Man, and you know what's crazy though? I want to do a freshman team. But I want it, not I want my but I need it to be, I want it to be like a regular item. They playing a regular, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But like the Lucia County should allow us to go because if you freaking got games against Jacksonville schools, similar county schools, or you should be able to have a freshman team.
SPEAKER_03You can take your freshman team up there and go play. Yeah, yeah, they might get 10, 12 games, but yeah, you should because we we're behind when it comes to that.
SPEAKER_02And that's that's our problem. We behind when we behind on everything.
SPEAKER_01On everything.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. So it's like for me, it's like I don't I don't necessarily blame the middle school coaches for for how bad some of them kids is because it ain't no time. You you practicing on you doing half court, yeah. Unless you want to take it by side, right? Yeah, that's it. And some of them, some of the middle school coaches, they doing some of them is coaching it because don't nobody else want to do it.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02Yes, yeah, some of especially on the girl side. Yeah. Man, you got some of them, some of the girls, you got your social studies teacher who ain't never played no sport. But she he or she doing it because, well, if if I don't do it, nobody gonna do it, and the girls won't have a team, right? So what you think, what you think they learning from this from from from Ms. From Miss Dobson, they uh they social studies teacher. Miss Dotson don't nothing about no damn basketball. That's true. That's true. She she down there looking at the boys, and then she'll be like, all right, do this. Do what they doing.
SPEAKER_01And that's real. Girls got it worse because they are not. If I if I if I if I think correctly, there are no high school girl coaches, coaching middle school girls.
SPEAKER_03Coach, let me tell you something, that's real. I don't really toot my own horn. But I'm finna do it now. You keep going horn every goddamn week. Coach, when I was coaching the girls at Creek Side, they fired me from Creek Side with the girls, Coach. I was you sucked. Coach, coach, I was but coach, guess what though? The girls was learning, bro. We got back. The reason they got rid of me, Coach, go away. The reason they got rid of me, bro, the one I put all seven graders on the team. I tell them, I say, man, we're gonna be bad this year. Yeah, but next year we gonna chip. Yeah, come back fast forward the next year, bro. We six and oh, bro. We going in there to play next and I think, bro. Yeah, bro, and I tell they they cheated me, bro. They cheated me because they knew if I win that game, I was gonna go to play for the championship. They cheated me, bro, and I snapped and got kicked out ticked all time. It was bad, bro.
SPEAKER_02But I know they cheated me because they oh, so you you ain't get fired. You got yourself fired.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, yeah. I went off. I was mad because I was in the chip. They knew it. They knew it, but we broke but bro, I was everybody, we were whooping them because we were posting everything. Hey, you wanna know what's crazy though?
SPEAKER_02And that's that's that's another problem we got. Like, they they'll they'll get rid of a coach, a good coach, for the dumbest reason.
SPEAKER_03And then they don't understand why I did that. We they was cheating us. We went from nothing to undefeated from the play for this championship. They literally out here cheating us. I'm I'm a basketball coach. I know they they don't they they don't want the creekside girls, and Ray knows what I'm saying, to beat those Henson girls and play for that championship. Because get what? Coach AJ showed that I can coach, boy. Yeah, I got creekside girls, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03You can figure it out.
SPEAKER_02And it goes back to what we was kind of talking hitting on earlier, though. Like in middle school, they got to be taught how to play before you get to high school, man. You can't, we can't just, it's just like with we're academics. There's no child left behind where we just bump, bump them up to the next grade, bump them up, bump them up, bump them up. Then now they get to high school, they can't read. Yeah. And get but and not and just like with how with that, well, what I'm saying is a kid couldn't play in sixth grade, couldn't play in seventh grade, couldn't play in eighth grade, but all they did is run a gun and press, right? Then they get to high school, and a high school coach, we lose with them. It's our fault.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, man. A parent told me, man, a parent told me, good my duke hat on. Man, they look totally different from the start of the season. Yeah, and that's what you want. That's what it's about. They fired me, bro. I want my dog back. I gotta find out. I'm gonna back through that tick top girl, too.
SPEAKER_01Coach, he'd been talking about back even back. I just can't listen, man. I'm not even about to get that. I need to I need to kind of shift gears a little bit. I need to ask you this because your son is a senior coming up, right?
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So ideally, what is the ideal roster makeup? When I mean I'm asking my roster makeup, like how many seniors you want to have, how many juniors you want to have, how many sophomores, how many freshmen? Because there's a lot of teams that go senior heavy, and now you don't jump off the goddamn cliff, now you're not gonna win no games. What do you think is the ideal roster makeup for uh I'm gonna put it to you like this, right?
SPEAKER_02I feel like sometimes it's gonna depend on the coach. I done I done done that before, right? When I was in Jacksonville, one of my best teams, we had 11, 11 seniors. Listen, and we was mollywapping everybody. Now we lost, we got beat in the second second round of the state playoffs, but the team that beat us went on to the final four, and then they lost to the eventual state champions, right? Yeah, now but what like going back to what you said though, right? Now that next year, boy, we was the worst thing ever. And so this, and then and and I'm I'm I'm kind of long-winded with it, but so that year I had all them seniors, I was run up for coach of the year in the classification, right? Yeah. That next year, we was terrible. I had people saying he can't coach. What you mean I can't coach? Bro, I literally got my that because that next year, my varsity team, we went from having 11 seniors to that next year, we had eight sophomores on varsity.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_02See what I'm saying? So, like you said, when you're trying to find that media, I feel like ideally, you want to have some strong seniors. You want that strong your seniors to be strong, and you want to have some sophomores and juniors that back it up to keep it going. But yeah, for one, the way that the landscape is now, dog, it really ain't no balance because I'm gonna use the word we're not supposed to use. You can always go recruit what you want.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But see, but coach is different.
SPEAKER_01See, coach is different now with the portal. So for me, the ideal makeup is four to five seniors. I'm only I'm only taking twelve. Four to five seniors, maybe three juniors, well, we had eight, maybe two sophomores and two freshmen every year, so that there's a progression on it. So now that recruiting thing, Cody, and this is something that me and AJ talk about all the time. And I'm gonna try to say This without without it sounding like I'm jabbing somebody else. Coach, in all my years of basketball, name a team that, other than a football team like Indiana, when they won the national championship this year, name a team that had a bunch of transfers that have that were able, man. They were not them private schools like Calvary Christian, them other schools. Name a regular public school that was able to bring in a bunch of transfers and dog gonna win.
SPEAKER_02Hey, so listen, listen. You you you you said it, you, you, you threw away the ones that do it. The private schools do it. Public schools, it ain't none. It's not none.
SPEAKER_01That's what I'm saying. So like for me, I can't take a transfer unless you're good for the program. Because number one, two things, two things, two things are true. When a transfer is trying to leave, he's mad at the coach or the coach is mad at him.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01He messed up your team dynamics. That's why I think that our team did as well as we did this year, because it wasn't no transfers in. It was all our kids. You bring in other kids, you bring in coach one year, it's my second year at C Reeves. Because our first year, man, we we won like 12 games, they won one game before. The second year I brought in one kid, he was a senior, tore our whole goddamn team up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01He was super athletic. I said no, but all my other coaches told me, Coach, we gotta take. Super athletic. I took him tore the team up, and I told myself, you got to be an exceptional kid is for me to take you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I don't care how talented you are.
SPEAKER_02I mean, yeah, and going back to what you what the origin what to the original question is, if you can find that balance, it's great for your program. Because now, and it's and now you have that culture established, right? Because like I done seen teams like like beat beat. We lost to a couple of schools on the strength of just friendship. Like these kids, them kids done been together three, two, three years. We ran them, and we might be better. Like, we got we got we got the best player on the court, but they bond is that they've been through all this different stuff together. So yeah, like like what you saying, it makes sense. You you kind of wanna you wanna find that, well, okay, this group of seniors I got, they they embrace everything about our culture, right? So they teaching the younger guy. So now when they leave, them them juniors they come in, they take over for the slot for the uh the seniors. They got it. You know what I'm saying? And we pass it down. It's like that brotherhood stuff that Duke be talking about. It gets down from from class and from group to group to group.
SPEAKER_03Duke could have been talking about that today.
SPEAKER_02They should have had more going on. But for me, like I said, because I'm that guy, I'm recruiting, I don't care about that. I need me some I need me two seven-foot Africans, another Dominican, and a kid from Poland. And then those can off the rock.
SPEAKER_03If we play Power Reader, you walk in that gym with two seven-footers, bro. I'll I'm gonna be like, oh my god, he said too.
SPEAKER_01Code, listen, somebody just posted on X on Twitter. Yeah, in boys' basketball in Florida this year, private schools won seven out of the eight classes.
SPEAKER_03They got is it's two different things. They have to get the two different brackets.
SPEAKER_01And so now in Nevada is public schools, and private schools have their own bracket. Alabama has New York too, don't they? Huh? Yeah, public and private.
SPEAKER_02Well, you know, yeah, yeah, New York. That junk they uh big time.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they private schools. They public schools. I just think you gotta do it, bro. Like, cause I seen just like going up, bro. Late Mayor was a good team, man. Got to the final four. I hope they put their banner up. But they you're never gonna beat Columbus if they keep it rocking and rolling down there like that. You would have thought when the Boozer twins left, oh, it's a lot over. No, it didn't matter, bro. Hey, listen.
SPEAKER_02I ain't gonna lie. Somebody, somebody was almost at Columbus. You wouldn't have been wrong. Jeez, uh, Miami.
SPEAKER_01He's like number 12 in the country.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It just doesn't, it don't make sense.
SPEAKER_02But so, but this is my thing, right? So let's say in Florida we do that, right? We do private versus public, right? Public school, we still gonna have the private schools, ain't gonna cry. It's only public schools. So now when we if they change it, private versus public, now they still gonna be trying to say, well, oh, they cheating over there. They be recruiting, they be recruiting. Hey man, you said that when we was private versus public, like when it was mixed in with us, yeah. So, like, okay, like we got like like right here, okay. Let's use our county, for example. Right? Kids, a kid here one year, then he there one year, then he there. Bro, it's gonna it's gonna happen.
SPEAKER_03Especially now this generation, that's just what they're doing it. You just said it did it, but Joe don't pick up to a middle school trying to win that middle school trip, but it probably gonna win it.
SPEAKER_02So it's like like I like I always say, man, and you know I'm always joking or whatever, but like I always say, man, don't cry about about the the the recruiting and all that, man. Now especially now we got the boosters, you can use your boot. Hey man, don't cry. Get the right person in the in the seat and and go and have them go buy your players or recruit your or whatever it's like.
SPEAKER_04That's best coming down, please.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but don't be sitting at the moment. Oh they got it, ain't fair that man, hey, you got to learn what you gotta learn it. You gotta learn the system. Like how we just say like with the parents coming from middle school and all that, man. You got to be a student of the game. It's it's a game and it's a business. You got to change, it changed into a business when they did the paying the kids now. Yeah, you got to be a student of the game and a student of this business. You got to learn how this stuff works.
SPEAKER_01See, because with me, and so like, and like maybe that's a problem for me. I'm not a win at all costs kind of coach. I like I don't know. I don't have visions of winning state championships. Maybe, maybe because I'm shallow or something, but like it's so hard.
SPEAKER_03Coach, but you was why why wouldn't you though if you if you pull, if you pull what you put off at Seabreach this year, y'all go to the first round, lost by three, four points with two referees. That's only a couple more games. Coach, because I'm telling you. Look at all the area teams this year, bro.
SPEAKER_01We it ain't it ain't hard as you think, man. Because, coach, because I think that in order for you to get to that level to the final four, there's some luck involved. Like, you gotta have some crazy luck to get that. Like, for instance, like Y'all, we that's on luck, man. Don't nobody want to hear that.
SPEAKER_03Uh-oh. You know, we can't uh this is the middle school, man. Y'all stop jumping.
SPEAKER_04No, wait a minute, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
SPEAKER_03I'm doing you shouldn't have did that. He was waiting on you to say something like that. Exactly.
SPEAKER_02Listen, bro, listen. Y'all, y'all, wait, people don't understand me and Ray.net, he the big brother, I'm the little brother. This is gonna happen. It's gonna happen.
SPEAKER_01Hey, that was the reason why I wanted you to get on. So I need to be able to talk a little bit. Because I was talking to old boy from uh from Jackson. Yeah, he asked me, he said, Well, coach, how y'all do? I said, Yeah, man, we beat Coach Andy. I'm in the in the district championship. He the little bro, you know what I'm saying? We we tapped him on the phone. Yeah, you know, and then and then me and talked about it last week. He said, Shit. He said his son was gonna score 40. I said, Hell, he had 33. Yeah, he needed them five more. He gets them five more, they win.
SPEAKER_04Exactly.
SPEAKER_03You knew so. Did you know he really had to really score 40 points to win?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Coach, let me check championship game and you on the road, dog. Coach gotta go for 40. You right? Your best player got your best player gonna have to because we don't got I don't got all my guys can't score like that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Coach, he should, coach, listen. He exerted so much energy. He tried to get it over with. I I watched it. He tried to get the coach, he tried to get the game over. He tried to get the get the lead up. Oh, let me tell you. Let me tell you how I started. I said, Oh shit. I said, first play of the game. This was okay. So we win the tap, and like guaranteed, we're gonna turn over that first possession. We turned that bitch, and not turn over, turn over on his side, he stealed that bitch go down there, boom it. Boom! Okay. I said, oh shit. They come down court and get another steal. One of the guys for the three. I still ain't calling a timeout. I said, fuck, we're gonna ride. The next play, his son come down court and hit it three down eight nothing. Timeout. Yeah, he tried to get it up. He tried to get it up. Y'all gotta match. I said, we can live with them other dudes. No, no. I told him I said we can live with Henry because we ain't we don't have a matchup with that. Them other dudes can't get off. And so then we started focusing on them other dudes, and then that was the game. He was still out there getting busy.
SPEAKER_02But he all in the crowd, everything.
SPEAKER_01Oh coach, he was going, Coach, he was going crazy, throwing an arrow and shit. But I said, Lord, coach, I was like, they're about to run us out this gym. Because the last time, the last time they came us and played us, they beat us to death over at Seabrew. I said they're about to run us out this gym. Coach, they walk in there with the boom box. They got the boom box. I said, Oh man, they and so We was on a mission, dog. Coach, this is when I knew they were gonna be in trouble. Because when they walked in there, Coach must have told them, we have a schedule, we have a routine. Go to the locker room, da da da. And they immediately walked in the gym, put the radio on the floor, and they and they started shooting around. He said, That ain't the routine we talked about. I said, Yeah, I said, Oh yeah, we got it. Because they already wasn't there. That's when I knew we was gonna be okay. Because he literally said, We talked about the schedule. That's not part of what we're supposed to be doing.
SPEAKER_02They out there Oh listen, dog. Okay, so I'm gonna back it up even farther than that. One of my seniors, he shows up an hour and a half late to shoot around. No, maybe an hour to shoot around. I knew right then, hey man, if Junior don't get them 40, we in trouble. And you had a kid dad card, you ate it. No, that was no, that was before the uh the reason. That was before the state playoff game. Listen, AJ, I knew we was in trouble, right? We was up eight zip, and I'm like, yeah, it's over. It's over. Because I seen the energy. Bro, we turned, they hit a three. The crowd go crazy. Bro, yeah. I look, I look in and two of my guys that was out there, I seen it in their eyes.
SPEAKER_03They ain't never played in a crowd like that.
SPEAKER_02They were, oh my God. Hey, they get a steal, same kid, hit another three. He hit them back. That was Jared. I see it.
SPEAKER_03I said, Jared's not gonna die. Cool, but remember what I told you. I say, listen, those shots that he hit, it had to be him to make them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03When he hit those threes, your best player hit those threes. Oh, they were they was they was locked in. Coached at the bottom. They was locked in when he hit him. And the thing about he not a shooter, but not a shooter. That's what I'm talking about.
SPEAKER_01That crooked them all the way.
SPEAKER_03Oh, he hit them three.
SPEAKER_01But Coach, I'm gonna tell you what I think. Oh, yeah, this is how I know. Coach, let me tell you what happened though. He didn't he didn't show up that late, but we supposed to always be there an hour and 20 minutes before the game. He shows up like 45 minutes before he normally rises with AJ Coach. I'm hot. I had to go outside and calm myself down because the only thing that came through my mind was you, AJ. You was like, Coach, like because we had a chance to go to the final four, and I freaking sat my kid down because he was late for practice. So I was like, I should sit his ass. Oh my god. And I was like, you know what? Me sitting him not only punishes him, it punishes my other kids. So I'm not gonna fit him. He owe me. And he's like, he's gonna pay what he owes, but I'm not gonna fit him. And he went out there and went crazy. Like he thought he was.
SPEAKER_02That was it. That was that was I'm telling you, bro. Like I told him at the game, I said, dog, y'all need to throw a pizza part or something for all for the student section. That's crazy. They were live, Coach. Junior was the only player I had on the floor that that ain't bothered him. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Junior talked, he was talking to the student section the whole game. He liked it, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Coach, we never had that kind of coach. It was it was live, and they're sitting there like, Coach, it was live. We've never had that like that.
SPEAKER_02Never that that was the decide factor, though.
SPEAKER_01That's what Coach said. Coach is like, once some kids got into the game, hit the student section, y'all started going to Asiat, they getting A1s, and he got the big fellas.
SPEAKER_02My guys, they go to give me all kind of dumb excuses. Like, well, you you said that we just was gonna give the ball to Junior. Bro, I say, so we gotta do standing wide open up under the basket. And you chose not to get a big thing. You told them kids that, didn't you? Huh? Did you tell them that or he just made that up? I said, dude, I said our first two options on everything we do is looking for. I know the first two options is five. Next we gotta fight, we gotta try and get it to Wilma. After that, it's whatever was good, whatever's open, we go to it. You give them to them, blow it rock, bro. Bro, we thought we would just, I say, bro, just why not just say, Coach, I was scared, I nutted up, I pissed down my leg, and it is what it is. I'm sorry. And you ain't even gotta say that I'm sorry, part. Just be like, Coach, it was the crowd. Because I'm like, bro, I'm watching the game, I'm looking in your eyes. They were just scared, coach. Bro, listen, just scared. Man, I forgot. Uh Ray, what what's your your little guard name, the one that only can go one way? AJ. Man, AJ. He was cooking, Coach. Listen. AJ was like, man, I ain't even got to do no moves on y'all. I'm just gonna go right. He was cooking, Coach. He was cooking. He said he got to do no moves. I ain't doing no moves, man. I'm just going right, dog. He was cooking. That's right. I'm telling them, hey, sit on the right, send them left. Man, my kid sit on the left, and I'm like, bro, what is you doing? Bro, that bro, that's not coaching, dog. That's the kid.
SPEAKER_01That's the kid. That's the kid. Hey, coach, that's what it was. The game was too big for them. Just like when we played out last year, the district. Yeah, the game was too big for my kids. They weren't ready for that. They were sophomore. They weren't ready.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, dog. And that's and that's really what it was, bro. Like, I got them kids, you know, my guys on that. We ready, we ready, we ready. Nah, y'all ain't. Because it's what that now listen, I'ma say this. If we played that gym in a if we played that game in an empty gym, oh we win. We don't cry. Coach. That crowd because they got that crowd was a superpower.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, it was there. It was there. Because Coach, it was the same. Coach, it was the same way against Jones. Yep. They willed us against Jones. We supposed to lose that game five times. I had y'all losing that game too, right?
SPEAKER_03I did. I know. Hey, Coach, quiet has kept me too. I had y'all losing. I just thought they was gonna be able to do it, but anyway. So let me ask you some questions before we talk about middle school night, man. Y'all think you know, uh Radon.
SPEAKER_01Nobody don't care about that basketball.
SPEAKER_03The fans, the middle school fans told we need to do a middle school night. That's what we're doing. Now stop. Okay, go ahead. Go ahead. So do you think the west side team's gonna be able to uh win it over the east side teams this year? You asked me. Yeah, I'm asking you. Do you think so?
SPEAKER_02First of all, okay, I I gotta be honest. Why are you asking me that? Because it's the middle school night, but the fans, right? You and Ray.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02Coach, coach, I don't know none of them kids. I'm going to I'm gonna be going to the games, but I couldn't tell you right now because I don't know what's over there.
SPEAKER_03Well, this is a preseason. They start Tuesday because is is the West Side of Lucia gonna win the championship over the east side?
SPEAKER_02Yes or when put it like this. Okay, when is the last time the West Side school won?
SPEAKER_01That was when uh that was when the boy that no, it was when the big boy transfer the one that transferred over to New Smyrna, played in the what year was that? So he he finna be a senior, so that about three years ago.
SPEAKER_03Four years ago, yeah, that was ago, yeah. About three, four years ago.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't know, probably not. Oh, probably not. Okay. Ask me that question again about four weeks, three, three weeks.
SPEAKER_03But they said um, so where do where do all the kids from the lake, not the lake, but the um the Florida fire over there in Del Tono? What's kind of the coach I used to coach at Del Tona, but he went to Maine and now he back over there. All his kids, I mean I know you wouldn't know, but all of them gotta be at the same school.
SPEAKER_02I don't know, because I think they they they're like two or three different schools. I think they spread out. They spread out. But you got kids everywhere.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's I just know I know his base is out of Del Tona, so that's why I was just figuring that they probably all went to one school to try to find that's why.
SPEAKER_02Nah, they be spread out. It might be three from here, four from there, and three from over there. They be spread out.
SPEAKER_03And y'all got what four middle schools over there?
SPEAKER_02Uh I don't know. Is it four?
SPEAKER_01It's Del Tona, it's Heritage Galaxy Galaxy Three.
SPEAKER_02Nah. It's one uh D Land, Deland, D-Land. Deland Middle.
SPEAKER_01No, no, that's right. It's it's doggone um it's the one in Orange City. It's like five, five or six. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's the one in Orange City, doggone River Springs, then it's D-Land Middle, then it's Southwest.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah, they got like seven or eight people. Yeah, they got a lot of them over there. So Peanut was at Southwestern when he won. He won back to back, didn't he?
SPEAKER_01He won the West Side, right? Yeah, when he had when he had big uh seven footer.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, oh no, that that was just the question. Well, that was like four or five years ago?
SPEAKER_01That's longer than that. He'd been out of school for he'd been out of school for three.
SPEAKER_02That's probably like eight years ago. Yeah, he was a jig. But that's the last time West Side School won it.
SPEAKER_03The last time they won it was four years ago. With the boy that the boy that was at university, so I just figured I'd ask you that since my middle school fans say we don't never we had to show them some love, so I'm glad nobody cares about that bad back. So the the middle school kids, those are fans too, man. We gotta respect the middle school kids.
SPEAKER_02That's gonna be terrible. Hey man, we're trying. Well, I hope they watch this because I'm gonna say something.
SPEAKER_03We got we dropped them Jews though. Y'all gave them like y'all told the parents what they should be focused on. Oh, they gotta be focused on development, training on development. See, yeah, good. Hey, right, so the the top five, they want to be the top five kids. So I gotta do that for the big side. The my fans, bro. Bro, you the only one know them know the middle school kid. Because y'all know I like the middle school, they fired me for my middle school job, man.
SPEAKER_01Because they're man, listen, bro. Go ahead, coach. I'm gonna I'm listening. You are the top five middle school kids. Coach, I couldn't do that. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_03The kid now, listen, I'm doing I do this for two reasons, but I'm gonna do it for the language for the kid. So um Caden Jenkins, he probably would be one going to mainland. Already committed, that ain't why I'll do it. I'm gonna give the kids a props. Already committed to the case. Yeah, okay. Then I'll say uh King Josiah Campbell, he's only in seventh grade. You're probably gonna be a good one.
SPEAKER_01So Caden Jenkins committed to committed to uh mainland, but his granddad used to be the principal at Seabrees. He coached with Orman Beast Bruins, but he's going to mainland. But go ahead on though. Oh, don't do that. Don't do that. Okay, so King Josiah from Campbell.
SPEAKER_03He played for Joe, he's going to mainland, he already said.
SPEAKER_01They're going he might be the number one player. I don't his granddaddy is one of my assistant coaches' best. All right go ahead on. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so um King Josiah seventh grade. Where he goes at Campbell.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_03I ain't gonna tell y'all where he's going yet, but he's going tobody coming to them. Okay, if I can back never mind. So number three would be it's that Malikas Simmons. You see him right from Silver Sands, he can play. Then I go Caden Davis from Campbell, and then I'm gonna go Quinn from New Smyrna. That's the top five.
SPEAKER_02How many of them kids play for y'all? Y'all a lot travel, y'all travel ball team?
SPEAKER_03None. None. They play for uh one King King one on Walls, one on Walls, but he said he's taking he's gonna put just concentrate on hospital because he's in eighth grade. Who's that? Caden Jenkins. He was playing for us. Oh, and he's playing for the Brun now? Yeah, I'm just saying what he did.
SPEAKER_02We tried to get him paying that the one that's going to mainland. Yeah, yeah, we tried to get him some jewel. I know he said he said he's not gonna play, he's not gonna play no travel.
SPEAKER_03No, he he just said he played for us. He says he's gonna come in eighth grade, though. But y'all just dropped the jewels about getting ready for high school, so that's not might not be a bad thing for the boys.
SPEAKER_02Okay, but how how good is he?
SPEAKER_03He's good, bro. He's good, he's good, bro. He's real good, and he's not gonna play for nobody over the summer. I'm just saying what we said in the in the organization.
SPEAKER_02I need to I want the parents to hear this, what I'm about to say. So then we got y'all about to give me hang up. No, no, no. Ain't no we got. If you gotta if you're the parent of a kid and that's really good, that's really good, and the parent, and if they they can call me and talk to me, or they can say what they want. If that kid is like that for real, yeah, he need to be playing on a high level this this whole summer, getting him ready for high school. Because if he's not, when he comes into high school, if They think he's gonna come in and just dominate. That's not gonna happen. And if he's really good like that, he need to be somewhere when he's playing on one of them circuits. Like, like we try, bro, because we don't got a bunch of good kids like that here in this county. If he like if he's as good as y'all say and he got a chance to be one in the ones, he need to get out right now. He need to be out there right now. And and the and and and so he can be pushed as the next face of the county, bro.
SPEAKER_03He's good. He's good. He's really good, coach. He he he can play now. He's just telling you, he was so he was he was with a shoe company, he was playing, and he he's really good. He's what the school you go to his listen.
SPEAKER_02I got I wanna I wanna go to if y'all see if he like that. I want to come see him play.
SPEAKER_03Nah, coach, coach, coach, he can play. He can punch, he can shoot it, he can point he long, everything. You can play. He about six one. Yeah, he's tall. Now he's lunky. Huh? If they win it, that's probably why they'll win it. But I like I got two. I got there's two of them that's not seven great. That's that that's on that'll be on par with him next year, too. We got someone coming up, man, that can really play. They just gotta, you know.
SPEAKER_02Man, they got to be somewhere that's that's that can that can get their names out there, man. Like, we can't be like the the parents gotta understand. Stop, don't try to be the best in Volusia County.
SPEAKER_03Say that, say it again. Ray say that all the time.
SPEAKER_02Don't be focused on, oh, my kid's the best. Hey, you want to be the best in the state and know nationally. That's that's that's what it's about. Don't don't sell it for being the best, the best middle school or the best in the county. Nah. Because that kid, like like I say, if that kid good, like y'all say he is, hey man, he they need to have him out there. He gotta be he they gotta put him out there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. He can play. But yeah, those are top five, man. Middle school, right? You know what I'm saying? Then the little sleeper kids, you know, you got the little point guard, the male son, he can play. I think he's real good too. The who I think he's like he can play. He got one who can at Creek side.
SPEAKER_01Huh? He go to he's gonna he's coming to Seabreeze, and his whole family are mainland guys, mainland people. He ain't going to mainland, he's going to come to my school.
SPEAKER_03Coach, but not coach, remember what the couple we had. We ain't gonna say no names.
SPEAKER_02He can play. What'd you say, Coach? I say you won that district championship. You got the N. I.L. money. My bad. I'm sorry. And uh hey, coach, listen, man.
SPEAKER_01That's good though. The kid what cause the coach. I have not spoken to his his dad about I literally don't even talk to me about no basketball. I don't have nothing to do with that.
SPEAKER_03He tough. Then you gotta give him a little creekside kid, a little Lucas Hannel, man. He can play. Well, they don't mind thinking about this little boy.
SPEAKER_01They ain't gonna win a game like every other year. Oh, Kree's that? Yeah. So they might win some games, coach. So, coach, how many, how many, how many new kids you bringing in? Because I'm about to I'm about to uh boy catch all out the district. Talking about me? Yeah, it ain't gonna matter anyway. Y'all can't beat us. Ray got a boy. You got all yeah.
SPEAKER_02If he ever had to play me on the road, his ass is grass. Hey, I'm gonna tell you what he's gonna do though. They're gonna have a spirit bus if they have to come to my place, and he's gonna have all kids, they're gonna have two spirit buses. Hey, you better leave me alone because I'm gonna call I'm gonna call my man Byron.
SPEAKER_01What you say, Coach? Ray gonna break two spirit buses.
SPEAKER_02They're gonna have two spirit buses.
SPEAKER_01Hey, you better leave me alone because I'm gonna call Byron and then I'm gonna tell her, hey, we need Pine Ridge up there on a neutral site. You better leave me alone. I'm fine with that.
SPEAKER_02I got I got number five. I'm fine with that.
SPEAKER_01You better leave me alone now. On a neutral site? Coach, I told you last year. I don't see him. I told him what it was. That's my dog, he knows.
SPEAKER_03You want schedules, though, first game. Uh-huh. Get a kind of what they want. Run it back then.
SPEAKER_01First game of the season, we're going to Atlantic, dog.
SPEAKER_03Going to Atlantic?
SPEAKER_01First game, but dropping schedules, man. I want Power Ridge to come to Creek, though. November 16th. That's what we're doing. Hell no, y'all got to come to me. Damn right. Why? Because the last time y'all played them. Yeah, y'all trying to start the game early.
SPEAKER_03All that. No, y'all coming to me. Because you know what? You the head coach. You the head coach. You know what time to schedule, so you play the game. You want to come to the game. Yeah, we got to come later. It was two, it was two rips. I'm glad y'all made it to the gameplay. We out. If y'all would have been a little bit more late, though, boy.
SPEAKER_01Well, I'm gonna tell you this, coach. He was on time for us. I was early. I don't care about none of that, man.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we're gonna we're gonna see how it plays out, man. Nah, nah, they're gonna play out that way. Listen, listen.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Loose Lamar girls gonna win it too. Middle school. My girls. You coaching them? Oh, never mind. They might not win it then. Never mind.
SPEAKER_02No. Oh, they fired me, man. I was just gonna say, like, they get if they gave your job back, yeah. Coach, that man can't get no job, Coach.
SPEAKER_03I can't get one, Coach. Like I just told you, I got a bat dope. Middle school, Coach, it's bad, dog.
SPEAKER_02Maybe they meant to be bro. You can't, you was in there throwing tails and everything. That's why the people got took my coach.
SPEAKER_03I be trying to tell him. He don't listen. Coach, they cheated me with my girls, dog. I couldn't go out like that. I gotta go out. I gotta represent. See, I'm the type of coach the kids should want to play for. They would cheat my girl. We were undefeated. They were beating our head in the year before we came out and start beating their head in. They ain't like that.
SPEAKER_02After you cuss the refs out, dog, you gotta stop right there, dog. You can't go to thaw and stuff. You can't bring props into it. You done flipped over the Gatorade, you done threw a chair, you done punched a hole in the in the drywall.
SPEAKER_01And then he uh chasing behind the referees going to the locker room all kinds of shit. He can't get no job. Hey, hey, Ray, the referee come outside, AJ sitting on the man's car.
SPEAKER_03I be trying to touch like that one me. See, that was that was one of the pairs that the girls gave that game, that Henson game when they cheated us, too. I don't want Henson to win. Anybody else can win the middle school, boys or girls, sell up Henson. They cheated me out my championship. I'll never forget it, though.
SPEAKER_01And Coach, let me tell you, Henry always showed me some love. Henry got me going to battleground. He got me got me going up to Jackson to go get some work during the season. While all the rest of y'all around here playing this boof ass basketball, big dog put me on.
SPEAKER_02I didn't put I put anybody on, man. They just you gotta just want to go play. I said I need to come to battleground.
SPEAKER_01That's why I want I need to get a job before I can get on. I'll go up there too. And that man here be right back. Yeah, because we love to have you. We there.

SPEAKER_02I know y'all go to FSU. Yeah, we got to go to that. I know y'all go. I might I might get in trouble if you don't go to that one. You gotta go up there. Uh, but other than that, man, I haven't really, I haven't, I haven't put that thing uh edge to stone yet.
SPEAKER_01Oh, it's only a month and a half away.
SPEAKER_02I know.
SPEAKER_01We gotta go. That was somebody told me, I said, Coach, you been in the gym, no? I said, Coach was like it's literally you got a month and a half. I said, shit, you right.

SPEAKER_02You supposed to. That was you supposed to do. Like I better be glad I ain't win. Hey, if I done won, hey boy, listen, better had to put my name on the floor.
