Welcome to the Clinician's Guide to Women and Girls’ Health podcast series, brought to you by Health and Wellbeing Queensland, in partnership with the Queensland Government's Women and Girls Health Improvement Program. I'm Victoria Carthew, a journalist, presenter and host of this series. The health of women and girls impacts us all. While women in Australia generally live longer than men, they often experience higher rates of chronic conditions and are almost twice as likely to experience mental health conditions. This podcast series is the third in Health and Wellbeing Queensland's Clinician’s Guide podcast library focusing specifically on the health and wellbeing of women and girls. This series draws on the voices and lived experiences of 1000s of Queenslanders, including health professionals and community representatives to explore what questions they most want answered. We heard about their positive and negative experiences, the barriers they face, and their suggestions for change - insights that have shaped the topics, questions and voices featured throughout. This series is designed to build the capability of healthcare professionals to engage in effective, empathetic conversations that support chronic disease prevention and empower women and girls to take control of their health journey. Over the coming episodes, we take a lifespan approach, exploring topics such as reproductive and maternal health, chronic disease, positive health behaviours, mental health and wellbeing. Each episode features insightful conversations with Queensland-based subject matter experts - health professionals working directly with women and girls. We aim to equip you with the knowledge and confidence to provide culturally safe and trauma informed care that meets the diverse needs of women and girls across Queensland. We'll also consider the unique challenges faced in regional and remote communities and the role technology can play in access and outcomes. Tune into the Clinician's Guide to Women and Girls’ Health podcast and join us on this important journey. Together, we can make healthy happen.
