Hello and welcome to Theatre Workshop Talks. My name is Alice and I'm a teacher here at the Theatre Workshop. We have a theatre school based in Birmingham, Barnt Green, Blackwell, and Bromsgrove. Here you will gain an insight to what it's like being a part of the theatre workshop. Along the way, we will be talking to TTW students, parents, teachers, and also some very special guests. She's back. She's not been on the podcast for a couple of weeks. How do you feel being back?

Oh, I love it. I just took a little break. I took a two-week break. No, um, I'm coming to talk everything show.

I I can't think about it because I know as soon as we've got had the show, I get married two weeks later, so I can't think about it. Anyway, we've sent the um all the details out today about the show.

Times and location and things like that.

And any questions you may have. But what we're gonna do is in this podcast is go through every bullet point that we emailed out to make it super clear because I know it's confusing time, show time, but also if you're not super clear on what's going on, just please message the theatre workshop number and one of us will get back to you. So no question is a silly question, honestly. Um, and I am literally that mum that doesn't read anything.

We've had loads of new sign-ups this well, recently, this term. So for most of you, it might be the first time doing a show.

So then it's overwhelming, it is overwhelming. So please don't ever think any question is a silly question. We'd rather you message us and we will get back to you. Um, yeah, so first things first. The first thing that the children need to be at, but this isn't for the weenies, is the rehearsal day. And now this day is really important, it's a full rehearsal where all the children get to come together and rehearse anything they do as a group. So that day is Saturday, the 25th of April, so it's after Easter holidays. We come back on the Saturday 18th, I think. Yes, I think that's right. That sounds right, yeah. I think that's the first Saturday. If you're a Friday night school, it's the 17th the night before. So the children all come back that weekend, and then the weekend after that, we are doing a full rehearsal at Lordswood Boys School, and that rehearsal will be for morning school, it will be from 10am till 5 pm. It's a long old day, so yeah, but gives the parents a good day to go out and yeah, have a date day or go do some shopping or yeah, have a manicure or a pedicure or a massage.

Anything you want to do. So 10am till 5 p.m. is the aim school, and that's the same for the PM school. 10am till 5 p.m. And then Bromsgrove School are being called at 12 pm because the Friday night on the 24th of April, they will have a rehearsal as normal, 5:30 till 8:30. So then Saturday you'll get a lie in Bromsgrove School and you'll arrive at 12 pm and you'll finish at 5 pm.

So that's the plan for the rehearsal. Rehearsal day, you need to wear theatre workshop uniform, hair needs to be tied up, and we are doing a lot of pictures on that day for the programme, so yeah, please come prepared for that. Black socks, please, and please make sure that your jazz shoes come with you as well, and please make sure they've got their names on their jazz shoes because there'll be lots of jazz shoes hanging around and they all get mixed up.

In terms of costume, we're gonna let you know what your child needs to bring. Some people um we are going to provide costumes for you, some people we're gonna ask to bring just some little props, like I think we've got some sunglasses and some caps that we're gonna ask you to bring, but you will know about that before the rehearsal day.

And then also because it's a long day, please ensure the children have enough to eat and drink, and we have lots of nut allergies, so please nobody send any nuts in the lunch boxes that includes Nutella sandwiches.

I love I I love the hippos. They're elite, they're so good, but they are a bit messy like that.

So I dropped in Elite again. So if you haven't signed up for Elite, there's three spaces available on that um Alice Fern. And if you don't book up, I'm gonna book the space.

Imagine. So um, when is the show, Alice?

The show is on the 16th and 17th of May, Saturday and Sunday.

Now, the Saturday, the 16th of May, is the show is at 7 o'clock, but the children are called earlier on that day. This doesn't include the weenies on the Saturday, the weenies don't come in on the Saturday, so um the times will go out for this for the actual show day. Um, I think it is gonna be 10 o'clock for all the group threes.

Yeah, we normally do that.

10:30 for group twos, and then 11 o'clock for group ones, and that's at the Ruddock Performing Arts Centre. So you'll drop off then, you'll leave your children with us for the whole day. The show is then at 7 o'clock, and then you'll pick up your child by 9 o'clock on the evening. It's a long old day, so they need lots of snacks, lots of drinks, and everything like that. And then on the Sunday, the 17th of May, that's the day the weenies are in. The weenies are called in at 10:30, and then everybody else, the rest of the cast is 11 o'clock, and the show is at 12 o'clock, and you'll be finished by 2 o'clock, so everybody can go home, get rested for school on Monday.

So the show is being performed at the Ruddick Performing Arts Centre, which is in King Edward School on the edge of Baston Park Road. Um, it's great there because there's a parking at the back of the venue.

It's a huge car park.

It's huge, it's free, and when you buy tickets for the show, you get a permit to park there. But when you're dropping off in the morning, you don't need to worry about that, so that's not a problem. Also, this year we are doing some VIP tickets, which is very exciting. We are launching a VIP option. Okay, so guys, Alice has left me, so I'm now riding this podcast solo. So this year we are launching a VIP option for the very first time for tickets, and this is gonna be £30 per family. Within that £30, you're gonna get access to book tickets a full 48 hours before everyone else. You'll get to book your tickets within £48 hours before you'll get a special code. You will also receive a copy of the show on film, a digital download, um, a show rose to present your child with, and a programme. Now, this VIP option is limited to 20 families only. So once we've got 20 families signed up, that will be it. And yeah, you'll be able to book your tickets on Monday, the 13th of April, if you've got the VIP access. If you haven't got VIP access, then you can book tickets on Wednesday the 15th of April at 10am. So that's when they'll go on sale to everybody. So if you're interested in booking that VIP slot, then you need to purchase that package on the 28th of March at 9am. But you're going to receive more information on that one as well. So the tickets are purchased through the theatre, we don't do them at theatre workshop. We will send you that link, it's on the um frequently asked questions document as well. Um, so you'll literally click on that link and um book your tickets. There's no limit on the amount of tickets you can purchase, so as many as you want to, that's absolutely fine. You know, we just say please encourage your friends and family to attend and support the children because they work really, really hard, and it's such a big achievement for lots of them getting on stage, and I think you're going to be so like blown away with their performances and how much they've come on from last year. So please, please um tell your friends and family about it, and we'd love to see everybody there. Is there allocated seating? Yes, the tickets are numbered. So when you when you do buy tickets, you buy the ticket number, so you don't need to worry about you know, first come, first served, you know, for tickets. You'll literally get your ticket number and you will get seated in that seat. So that is that. There's lots of free parking on site, and there will be a bar where you can purchase food and drink and roses for the children, programs, and you will be able to purchase the DVD digital download. We didn't do that last year, and we had lots of upset parents that we hadn't filmed the show, so we've got somebody coming in on the Sunday to film the show so that you can have a keepsake. Do I need to provide anything else for my child? So the only things you need to provide for your child is the black dress shoes. Every child needs black jazz shoes, that's including weenies too. They need plain black socks, plain black leggings or joggers, and your show t-shirts will be provided. And any costumes or accessories that we haven't spoken to you about, we will be providing. Um, so you don't need to worry about that. The kids need to bring food and drink during the day, it's a long old day. And I would say with drinks, please don't send cartons or cans, everything needs to be in bottles. Um, there's like a water fountain so they can refill their bottle drinks, but just anything with a lid is so much easier because if drinks get spilled in the backstage area and it goes all over their costumes, then it's a bit of a nightmare. So we just say please don't send cartons or cans or energy drinks or anything like that. Just um water is best. Um, children's hair. So the hair needs to be in two French Dutch plaits with no accessories. Um, this year we will be having a hair station for the very first time. So one of our team will be devoting themselves solely to plait hair for the morning on the Saturday and Sunday. So places will be limited to book for this because obviously it's one person doing it, and she can only plait so many hair as possible in that time. So we're gonna send you all the information out about that as well. Um, and that will be five pounds per person. I know I will be signing Betsy up because I cannot do any plaids. So, yes, so if you can't plait hair and you want to book that, then please book that in advance because that will sell out so super quick. And if your child hasn't got plaids on the day that and they haven't got anybody that can do them, then please arrange for them to go to a hairdresser or um maybe one of the older students in their group can do their hair, but honestly, we don't get any time in the day to plait hair, so we really need the hair plaited because obviously all the the photos get taken as well, so yeah, there's just not a lot of time, so everybody's hair needs to be done by the dress rehearsal. Um, no jewellery can be worn during the performance except for small stud earrings. Obviously, I know the girls have their ears pierced, so they need to not take those studs out. But uh, as for jewellery, please make sure it doesn't come to the theatre. Um, necklaces, bracelets, please leave it all at home so that nothing gets lost because we receive that much lost property, and the necklaces all get mixed up, so yeah, please leave them at home. The show will be filmed. I did mention it earlier. So the digital download will be £20 for the digital download, and then after the show, yeah, you get the £20 offer if you book within the show weekend or or previous to the show, you can book that. If you book after the show, it will be then £22 because we then have to reorder from the um the company. So please, if you want a DVD digital download, then please make sure you book that ahead of the show. Will there be merchandise on sale? Um, as for merchandise, there will be a programme, and we'll be sending some information out about um local businesses putting adverts in. If you've got a business that you would like to advertise in our programme, then please support us. We would love to have your advert and we will also be taking good luck messages from parents as well. So that's lovely. And we'll also be uh selling our show roses, and I know lots of the children are collecting a good amount of roses and all the different colours, so we will have a new colour to add to the collection. Um, I think that is all the questions that we get asked. I'm hoping I've gone through everything. But if you've got any more questions on the show, then please let me know. I don't think there's any other questions, but the other question we do get our asked as well is is there classes after the show? Absolutely, there's classes after the show. The show weekend is earlier than normal. We normally do it in June. So once we've done show, we'll be on to the next thing. So show will end that weekend, the weekend after, everyone will come back to theatre workshop, and we are back to normal classes, normal workshops, and we'll be working on something new for the end of term. So the end of term is Saturday, the 11th of July. So don't think after the show that's it, it's most certainly not it. We've got lots of stuff planned for the rest of the term.
