Hi everyone, welcome back to another episode of our podcast. Today I'm joined with one of our theatre workshop past students who was with us for many many years. Um he's going to talk to us a little bit about his theatre workshop journey, the shows he did with us, and now what he's up to at the moment. So today I'm joined with Josh. Hello, Josh.
SPEAKER_00Hello, Alice.
SPEAKER_02How are you today?
SPEAKER_00I'm alright, thank you. Just struggling with the heat, but apart from that, I'm okay.
SPEAKER_02It's very, very hot, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00It's too hot. It's way too hot.
SPEAKER_02So you have been a part of the theatre workshop for a very long time, haven't you?
SPEAKER_00I have. I've been been there since I was five and I'm nearly 18.
SPEAKER_02Wow. So so it's been a journey.
SPEAKER_00It's been a very long journey.
SPEAKER_02It has. That's great. Did you start in grade one?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was. Yeah. Yeah.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00Because the because the the the win the wheenies wasn't a thing when I started.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So when you were with us, do you remember what shows you did with us?
SPEAKER_00I did. I remember I remember being outside the council house.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00And seeing outside the council house. Um I remember doing that. At one point in time we did I can't remember where it was, but we did we did We Will Rocky. And it was like this full sale. Um that that would have been probably about ten years ago now. I don't actually think we actually did the German markets at that point, at least I didn't anyway. I remember doing this thing on a field somewhere for Christmas and singing Mistletoe by Justin Bieber. I don't know what I remember. But I I I I remember I think it was for some I remember it we stood up do you know, like in i in a a race where there's like this the inflatable thing and the line that they went through.
SPEAKER_02Yes. When you sang outside the council house, was that for a Christmas light switch on?
SPEAKER_00I think it would have been, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I think I did that one. Um did ya? I think I did because I remember doing a light switch on outside the council house and we had to wait inside.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I remember I remember that one as well.
SPEAKER_02That's another one.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because the one that I rem I'm remembering, we did. Do you remember Georgia?
SPEAKER_02Yes, I do.
SPEAKER_00Georgia was there. And she sung what was it now? I think we did um I think it was run by um Leona Lewis. And I remember the one you're on about because that would have been the time frame that you were there.
SPEAKER_02I remember that one so vividly. There was a there was a truck as well.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Was it like a Coca-Cola truck or something? Or Santa was in there, or I can't, but I just remember seeing a truck and it was opposite us. I remember it so clear, so weird.
SPEAKER_00I remember which one you're on about. Yeah. No, it the one I was thinking of at first was a different one, but I remember that one as well. Obviously, I've done all the barricade boards stuff.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And Joseph at the brand.
SPEAKER_02All the summer shows.
SPEAKER_00What was that? Yeah, all the summer shows. The first summer show that I actually remember doing I think it was We were Rocket. We did the Brighton Dome. We performed at the Brighton Dome with I think that that was I I was about, I think I was about six, and we all went on this coach down to Brighton.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I can't I can't remember what we performed, but I remember we did that, I think that was for Christmas.
SPEAKER_02You were at the theatre workshop for how many years training with us? It would have been about twelve years. Twelve years, okay. And in that time you did all those shows, all those performances. And you still do come to the theatre workshop, don't you, on a Saturday?
SPEAKER_00I do, I still come. Um but I I work with the weenies now.
SPEAKER_02How's that?
SPEAKER_00Oh, it's very fun. It's very r it's very rewarding.
SPEAKER_01Oh.
SPEAKER_00But uh sometimes I can be very cheeky. Very cheeky. Very sweet and innocent. Very sweet and I love doing it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01No, that's it.
SPEAKER_00I do love doing it.
SPEAKER_02Good. And you sang you played the guitar at our summer show, didn't you, this year?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, uh I sang uh what song was it? It was U2. Uh I still haven't found what I'm looking for. Yeah. And I did that with Ava and Chloe.
SPEAKER_02So after you left the theatre workshop, what did you sort of get up to?
SPEAKER_00I went to study at Boa, which is if if you don't know Boa, if everyone listen, uh I assume you do, but it's performing arts. Um would you say would you say school?
SPEAKER_02I'd say school slash sixth form.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um yeah, it's it's a school slash six form in in the middle of Bron.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and what did you train in there?
SPEAKER_00I I studied music there, which obviously is not what Theatre Workshop offers, not the musical theatre and acting wise. But um during my time with his workshop I I uh got massively into music. Um so I I went to study music there and I've just left and that was some of the best years of my of my life.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um obviously you also went there, Alice, so you can you know v vouch for so now following on from Boa, you have something exciting going on, don't you, Josh?
SPEAKER_00Yes I do. I do very much so. Um so in September I will be going up to uh Liverpool to study at Lippa.
SPEAKER_01Amazing.
SPEAKER_00Which is I was very shocked about when I got the news. Um because I didn't expect it at home. Um because it's obviously a very prestigious place or I wasn't expecting me to get an offer from there at all, but I'm very excited about that. Um I'm going to study songwriting and performance there.
SPEAKER_01Ooh.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, some wise performance in vocals, which shocked me even more that I got in for singing. Um but yeah, which I I'm but I'm I'm so excited. I I'm excited about moving up to Liverpool.
SPEAKER_02Liverpool is so lovely.
SPEAKER_00I love it.
SPEAKER_02It's it's a really, really nice city. I went there last summer and it's just great. Everyone's just so friendly up there, so I'm sure you'll have an amazing time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Mm-hmm. And I it's because it's right smack bang in the middle of the city. I'm like at a max 20-minute walk from everything.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So it's it's it's very exciting.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I think it's the one city where I I I I would have wanted to be. And and I got in. So I'm very excited.
SPEAKER_02There you go. And alongside all of this, you have a band, don't you, Josh?
SPEAKER_00I do, I do. Um I do have a band. Uh we're called The Lost. Um we've been together for a while now. Um and we three of the other band members as well have gotten to lipper. Actually, two of them. Two so two of two of the uh two of the other band members have gotten to lipper as well, which is good because we can all move up there together.
SPEAKER_02That's good. So are you gonna continue the band when you're up there? How are you gonna do like rehearsals and shows and stuff?
SPEAKER_00I think I think because other band members are going to different places, so I think I think we'll we'll we'll definitely try and figure something out because w we all really do get on. Um not only it's just like a group of mates, but like musically as well. Um so I I think we we've gotta carry it on somehow.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um and it's it's kind of we'll we're we're all gonna try and find collective time where we can, you know, book a gig far in advance and say, look, we can't take anything else of this day. Um and what's good about Lippa is that even if say if you're in a band outside of Lippa um and say only one band member gets in, all of the rest of the band members can use it can use the the the the facilities.
SPEAKER_02Oh that's great, that's good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So and it's open 24-7. So we can literally rehearse at like Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh that's amazing. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So like there's not like a uh an eight o'clock curfew. We can literally rehearse at half two in the morning if we wanted to.
SPEAKER_02And annoy all the neighbours.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's great. Have seen did you just have a show recently? Correct me if I'm wrong.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we just we just did a gig at the um Dark Horse in Moseley. Um which was which went a lot best better than better than we expected. Um and uh our keyboard player um bought out his his guitar for the first time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. A key tar? What's a keitar? A key tar. Well Is it a keyboard and a guitar?
SPEAKER_00Guitar come together. So it's think how a guitar comes across someone, like with the strap and everything.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00But where you press down with with your left hand, yeah, it's it's um stuff like pitch shift and modulation.
SPEAKER_02That's a big word, Josh.
SPEAKER_00So it it's keyboard stuff with that hand, and then with the right hand, obviously you play the keys. Um but you you obviously you don't play them down like you would with an old keyboard, you play them onto your body.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so it's a keyboard in the shape not in the shape, but in like the way that you would play a guitar. Yes, exactly. Okay, I'm with you now.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. I've never heard of one of those.
SPEAKER_00Well, you don't see many people using 'em.
SPEAKER_02Why not?
SPEAKER_00Honestly, I don't know, they're really cool. I don't know. We w we should see more catars.
SPEAKER_02Wow, well, I've learnt something new today. A kitar.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Interesting. And have you got any shows coming up?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we have. We've got um we're playing on the fourth of July. Um at somewhere over in Brom's Grove.
SPEAKER_02Oh nice, okay.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, that's that's that's an all covers gig, um, because it's for it's for the fourth of July. We've been booked for Independence Day.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00Um just to play like um pop punk covers and stuff.
SPEAKER_01Cool.
SPEAKER_00So that's that's gonna be very fun because we we we we we don't really do that. Um and that's been exciting to learn all the new parts. Um and then we've got we've got the 17th of July. Um that's over in I think the place is called Shoreditch, I think.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, uh I think that's right. Um and that will be that'll be us mainly doing original stuff and with the with a few with a few covers in there and stuff. Um and right now, as of now, we haven't got any other gigs, but we may have some more later in July or in or in August because of the kind of gotta contact the promoter that we work with as well.
unknownI see.
SPEAKER_02So if people want to come and watch your gigs, Josh, how do they get tickets? Do they get them through the venue?
SPEAKER_00So I think for the 4th of July you should get you should be able to get them through the venue, which I never actually thought, but I think it should be through the venue because they've they've arranged the 4th of July thing.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00And it isn't just us one. There's other there's there's we're doing like three hours and then there's a DJ and stuff, so it's a full event.
SPEAKER_02So um the venue is about to ask the Crown Inn. That's in Bromsgrove.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think it's the Crown Inn. Let me just double check.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00I'm pretty sure.
SPEAKER_02You can go and watch him on the 4th of July.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah, it's the Crown Inn in uh Catson in Bromsgrove.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00Um and then on the 17th, it's at I think it's Shaw Ditch Labour Club. I think.
SPEAKER_02Shoreditch Labour Club. Amazing. So if you do want to see Josh, that's where you need to go.
SPEAKER_00Tickets for the 17th, yeah, you can get through any of the band. I'm not sure if they're online yet. Um but any of the band, contact our social media. Which is um the dot lost dot official on Instagram and on TikTok, it's the Lost Official with No Dots.
SPEAKER_02Amazing. So we'll tag all those on our socials for you, Josh, so people can go and check it out, drop you a follow, have a look at some of your work.
unknownThank you.
SPEAKER_02Alright, amazing. Well, thanks, Josh. It's been a pleasure talking to you today. It's been really interesting.
