SPEAKER_00Ha ha. Same for me. You being caffeinated scares the living hell out of me. I don't think the people listening can even begin to understand that. So the topic today is something I've been thinking about a lot lately. AI and hiring.
SPEAKER_01This is a big one.
SPEAKER_00It really is. Because hiring has always been one of the most expensive, time-consuming things a business owner deals with. And it's changing fast.
SPEAKER_01What are you seeing on your end? Where's AI actually showing up in the process?
Automation Redefines Roles
SPEAKER_00A few places. The first is just screening. You used to have to read through a stack of resumes and make judgment calls based on keywords and formatting. AI can do that in seconds now.
SPEAKER_01Which frees you up to spend time with the people who actually make the cut.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. But here's the part that people don't talk about enough. AI is also changing what roles even need to be filled in the first place.
SPEAKER_01What do you mean by that?
SPEAKER_00Think about all the tasks that used to require a full-time hire. Content creation, data entry, basic customer follow-up, and scheduling. A lot of that is getting handled by AI tools and automation now.
SPEAKER_01So you're hiring fewer people for the repetitive stuff and more people for the high judgment stuff.
SPEAKER_00That's a really clean way to say it. The value of a human employee is shifting. It's less about volume and more about thinking, relationships, and decision making.
SPEAKER_01Which means the bar for who you actually bring onto your team is going up.
Hiring For Mindset Over Skills
SPEAKER_00It is. You want people who can work alongside AI not compete with it. The ones who understand how to use these tools are going to be significantly more valuable.
SPEAKER_01I'd push back on that just a little bit though, because not every business owner has the time or the patience to train someone on AI tools they're still figuring out themselves.
SPEAKER_00That's a fair point. And honestly, that's where hiring for curiosity matters more than hiring for experience. If someone is naturally curious and willing to figure things out, they'll adapt. If they're not, no amount of training is going to change that.
SPEAKER_01So you're almost hiring for mindset before skill set.
SPEAKER_00Completely. The skills can be taught. The mindset is a lot harder to install.

SPEAKER_00Audit your current roles, figure out which tasks are repetitive and could be automated. That might open up budget for higher impact hires. Also, when you do hire, start asking candidates how they use AI and their work. It tells you a lot.
