Stop Guessing And Compare Your Goal To Real Revenue
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Half the year is gone and that’s exactly why we’re doing the thing most owners avoid: an honest, numbers-first gut check. If your days are packed but your revenue feels uncertain, we’re here to separate “busy” from “on track” with a simple midyear business review you can do in about 30 minutes. No hype, no shame, just the clarity that comes from looking at what actually happened through June.
We walk through the cleanest baseline metric: take your annual revenue goal, divide it by two, and compare it to what you’ve brought in so far. That one comparison cuts through the “things feel pretty good” fog and shows whether you’ve got a real gap or real momentum. We also talk about why fear of seeing the truth is what creates business drift, and why checking now gives you runway that you simply won’t have later in the year.
Then we move from math to diagnosis with three questions that help you decide what to change next. Is the gap a marketing problem or an offer problem? Are you still doing the work that earned your best clients, or have you drifted into tasks that look productive but don’t move revenue? And if the next six months look like the last six months, do you hit the goal? We also cover what it means if you’re ahead of pace: the gut check helps you double down on what’s working on purpose, not by accident.
If you want extra help tightening your offer, we share a free one-page checklist you can use before spending another dollar on ads or another six months on content. Subscribe, share this with a business owner who needs a midyear reset, and leave a review if this helped you run a clearer, calmer second half of the year.
If this sparked ideas for your brand or business, subscribe for more deep dives, share the show with a founder who needs focus, and leave a quick review to help others find it. Why A Midyear Gut Check
SPEAKER_00What's happening, everyone? Jason Wright here. As usual, George is joining me today.
SPEAKER_01Hey everyone.
SPEAKER_00We're halfway through the year, and I want to do something a lot of owners avoid. An honest gut check on where the business actually stands.
SPEAKER_01Why do people avoid it? Seems like a useful thing
Busy Versus On Track
SPEAKER_01to do.
SPEAKER_00Because busy feels like progress. And it isn't the same thing. You can be slammed every single day and still be way off pace for the year. The two don't automatically go together, but our brains treat them like they do.
SPEAKER_01So how do you actually separate the two? Busy from on track?
Use Numbers Not Vibes
SPEAKER_00Numbers, not vibes. Pull up your revenue goal for the year, divide it by two, and compare it to what you've actually brought in through June. That one comparison cuts through all the things feel pretty good. Fuzziness instantly.
SPEAKER_01What if someone doesn't want to look because they're afraid of what they'll find?
SPEAKER_00That fear is exactly why most businesses drift. Not looking doesn't stop the drift, it just delays when you notice it, usually until it's too late to fix in the year that's left. Six months out, you've still got runway. In November you don't.
The Three Diagnostic Questions
SPEAKER_01Okay, so say the numbers off. What's the actual gut check beyond just the revenue math?
SPEAKER_00Three questions. First, is the gap a marketing problem or an offer problem? We've talked about this before. Most people assume marketing, and it's usually the offer.
SPEAKER_01What's the second question?
SPEAKER_00Is the work you're doing right now the work that got you your best clients, or has it drifted? A lot of owners start the year doing the thing that works and slowly get pulled into stuff that feels productive but doesn't actually move revenue.
SPEAKER_01That's an easy trap to fall into without noticing.
SPEAKER_00Very easy because each individual pull feels reasonable in the moment. It's only when you zoom out to six months that you see how far you've drifted from what actually works.
SPEAKER_01And the third question?
SPEAKER_00If I kept doing exactly what I did the last six months, would I hit the year's goal? If the honest answer is no, something has to change now. Not in October when you're panicking.
Adjustments Without Self Blame
SPEAKER_01So this isn't about beating yourself up over a number?
SPEAKER_00Not at all. It's diagnostic, not punishment. The point of the gut check is information. So you can make one or two real adjustments with six months still on the clock instead of finding out in December that the story was already written.
SPEAKER_01What would you tell someone who does this and finds out they're actually ahead of pace?
SPEAKER_00Even better, because now you know what's working, and you can double down on it deliberately instead of by accident. The gut check isn't just for catching problems, it's for confirming what's earning its place too.
SPEAKER_01So block time this week, pull the real numbers, ask the three questions.
SPEAKER_00That's the whole exercise. Takes 30 minutes, and it's the highest leverage half hour you'll spend all month.
SPEAKER_01That's a good place to
Free Offer Checklist And Wrap
SPEAKER_01land.
SPEAKER_00One quick thing before you go. If your calendar isn't as full as you'd like it to be, the problem usually isn't your marketing, it's your offer. I put together a free one page checklist for you. It covers twelve things your offer needs before you spend another dime on ads or another six months on content. Head over to high ticketchecklist.com and grab it. It takes about two minutes to score yourself and you'll know exactly where the leaks are. Thanks for listening.
SPEAKER_01See y'all next time.
