It's such a lovely and a beautiful day outside today, and I'm so glad that we are out here in our garden. And I'm surrounded by all these colorful vegetables and fruits outside. What if I told you some foods have a kind of magic you can't even see? No, not the kind of magic from stories and shows, but the kind that helps our bodies grow, think and feel strong, and the kind of magic that helps us feel better when our bodies are not feeling too good. It made me wonder, could food have its own kind of magic? Yes. What do you think? Let's find out together. Okay, so let's come inside. I brought something with me from the garden today. Look at this! So many colors! Red, orange, green, purple, and they all look so different, but they're all food. I wonder something. Do you think all foods do the same thing inside our bodies? Or do you think different foods might do different things?

Well, if you're talking about all foods, then yeah, I guess, but I don't know how.

What if someone ate the same food every single day? What do you think would happen? Do you think they would feel the same or different? Like what kind of food? It could be anything. Even healthy food? Yes. It could be healthy or unhealthy, but same every single day. Um what do you think it will do to the body?

Well, the body will get a little too used to it. And if it's good food, you won't feel creative with it anymore. You you might just start to feel not not make your brain excited anymore. It might just start to feel like that, but if you're still eating the candiest stuff and bad stuff, that'll always be the same. It'll just make you feel sluggish and stuff.

Yeah, I think you're right. If we eat the same food every day, even if it's healthy, it can start to feel a little boring. Also, different foods carry different kinds of magic. Some help us grow, some help us think, and some give us energy to play. And if we eat candy every day, our bodies might feel tired or sluggish. So it's nice to have different kinds of foods to keep our minds and bodies feeling good. This makes me think of someone who noticed something similar. Let me tell you her story. Zina was a bright, cheerful girl who loved snacks. But she had one tiny habit. She ate the same snack every single day. Can you guess what that snack was? Candy every single day. At first it felt fun, sweet, colorful, exciting, and it tasted so good. But after some time, Zina started to notice something strange. Her body didn't feel the same. She felt a little slower, a little sluggish, a little more tired, and sometimes a little grumpy. Almost like her body was trying to tell her something. One afternoon, Zaina's mom gently said to her, I wonder what would happen if you tried something new. Something colorful but in a different way. Zina thought about it for a moment and she went to her fridge and she opened the fridge and paused. Let's pause with Zaina for a moment. What do you think she's thinking right now? Do you think she might choose the same snack again that is candy? Or try something new? And why? Inside, as Zaina looked closely, she began noticing the colors, textures, and shapes of all the different foods around her. There were bright red apples, bright yellow pineapples, pink apples, dark green cucumbers, bright orange carrots, cotton candy grapes, deep purple grapes, and blueberries that looked like tiny blue buttons. Zina slowly began placing them on her plate one by one until her plate looked like a very colorful piece of art. She loved how it looked, and she smiled. Then she took one small bite and something unexpected happened. It wasn't some big and loud magic, but a quiet one. It was like she felt a tiny spark inside. She felt a little better, a little lighter, brighter, and a little bit more awake. So she took another bite and another. And soon Zaina felt ready. She felt ready to move, ready to play, ready to imagine. Different foods gave her different kinds of feelings, and she realized that she could choose what helped her feel her best, because there was so much to choose from. From that day on, Zaina still enjoyed candy, but only sometimes. And she discovered a new kind of magic. So Zaina's story reminds us that when we notice how different foods make our bodies feel, we can make choices that would help us feel our best. Why do you think candy made her body feel that way?

Because candy is not good for you. You just grab something, it doesn't make you feel creative, and you're just sitting there eating. And you're not eating good stuff, it's really bad for you.

Hmm, I think you might be on to something. And why do you think Zayna felt more awake after eating fruits and vegetables?

Because they were new and because he's being creative with them. And um another reason is that good foods make you feel energetic and they make you feel creative. That's an interesting thought.

Maybe some foods don't give us what our bodies need to feel energized and more awake, and some foods do, like healthy foods, of course. So perhaps we can notice that next time when we eat something, we can notice how particular foods make our bodies feel. And before we move on, here is something for you to think about. If you had a variety of fruits and veggies in front of you, just like Zaina had in her fridge, what colors would you choose for your own colorful plate? And now it's time for our magical action. Today's magical action is called the colorful bite. Find one fruit or vegetable in a color you don't usually try and take one small, brave, curious bite. And as you taste it, ask yourself, what kind of magic is this giving me? Here's a little parenting pixie dust for our grown-ups out there. When it comes to healthy eating, children learn not just from what we say but from how we experience food with them. Try creating a space of curiosity instead of pressure. For example, instead of saying you have to eat this because it's healthy, you might say, I wonder what this food might do for our bodies. When children feel invited rather than instructed, they are more open to explore, try new foods, and build a positive relationship with eating. And remember, it doesn't have to be perfect. Small moments like noticing colors, textures, and tastes can help build lasting habits over time. Different colored fruits and vegetables contain different nutrients. Let's look at a few fun facts about some of the foods Zaina saw in her fridge. Carrots contain nutrients that support eye health. That's why people often say carrots are good for your eyes.

Cucumbers are made mostly of water, which helps keep your body hydrated, especially on warm days.
