Hi everyone! Welcome to our podcast, which is called Mom and I Make Magic!
SPEAKER_00Today we're gonna be talking about the magic of friendship! Magic of friendship? Are you sure? I'm a friendship only. It's okay. A little mix-up.
SPEAKER_01I mean, magic of friendship is a good one to do. We will definitely do that one too. We already did it. We did it like on the first episode. Oh yes. In our very first episode, we made up a little story on the spot, which was about new friendships and the magical feeling they bring.
SPEAKER_00So we're gonna be talking about something equally important. The magic of teamwork! That's how you do friendship.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I have a really good example of teamwork. Teamwork is happening right here, right now, between the two of us. We do teamwork whenever we make our podcast.
SPEAKER_00So let's put a scenario where there's just one person, and let's say they're my age, and they they they just wanted to start their own podcast, but they don't have their own they don't know how to work it. So of course they'll need to do it with their own. And that's and it'll be better like that.
SPEAKER_01So have you ever experienced teamwork? Yeah. And the magic of it?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So I had some crayons that nobody in the class had. I mean, like maybe there was a few people, but I'm pretty sure I was the only one. And me and my friend, we were um using those crayons to color the background of the paper, and it turned out really good as and we did teamwork and another that is amazing.
SPEAKER_01Both of you did teamwork perfectly, and the result came out perfect. Perfect. Okay, what's another example you were giving?
SPEAKER_00So let's say this scenario. Like, what if you your teacher put you in a group with somebody you didn't really like? So I'm gonna give you mom two options. Should what should you do? Should you tell that person, no, I don't want to work with you, I don't like you, and I I I'm not working with you, I'm working by myself. I'm gonna tell the teacher. Our second option, just say what do you want to do first and just work together.
SPEAKER_01I would go with a second option. Yes. Great. Second option is just better, it's nicer, yeah, and it really is what teamwork is all about. Teamwork is about collaboration. So collaboration means working together as a team. Everyone gets to share their ideas, helps each other, and uses their own special strengths to reach the same goal. And with the second option that you gave me, that's exactly where collaboration would be useful. And if I collaborate and if the other person also collaborates well with me, that will be teamwork. And we will be able to complete our work. That's great, it's cool. Yeah, it is. Do you have a story that you want to tell about teamwork? Shall we put on our imagination hats and wave our creativity wands to come up with a one-of-a-kind story? This time about teamwork? Yeah. Alright, so just wait a little bit.
SPEAKER_00Have some hats which we could actually put on.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that is so much fun. We'll be right back. We're going and getting our hats. So we're back with our hats. We're wearing them right now. It's so much fun.
SPEAKER_00But we decided since this is a teamwork one, we'll do some teamwork and decorate our caps together. So let's share some ideas. Mom, I think you should put some hearts. What do you think I should put on mine?
SPEAKER_01Stars, definitely. Stars and smiley faces and lots of sunshine. Because you're like a bright sun. We have paper, glue, and markers. We'll decorate while we talk and take turns telling our story. That's teamwork in action. So we will also be decorating our hats.
SPEAKER_00I think we should do the decorating before, right? This is collaborating. So I think my idea might be a little better?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yes, I think so. We can definitely do that. So this is double teamwork.
SPEAKER_00Decorate with anything you like. I'm gonna put some stars in mine. Mommy, that was a great thing. I love our teamwork, right? I love it too. Well, let's decorate. So, how if we talk about some collaboration on teamwork? Well, this should be interesting, right? Yes.
SPEAKER_01Alright, so do you have a fun activity our listeners could do to help them practice teamwork together? Whether it's at home or with your friends.
SPEAKER_00Well, what we're doing right now, it's actually an activity that's really good. Grab a hat. It can be any hat. Mm-hmm. So if you want to draw on your cap, you can, but the better option is to take paper and glue and scissors and markers and draw with the marker on the paper. Then glue it down. And if you want to cut a special piece, then use the scissors. And who would they do this activity with? Anybody they like. And some and even if you want to try and work with somebody you've never worked with and get along with them, it's a great idea to do this activity. I love that idea so much. And you should really share ideas. This is what so let's say you're having a let's say your teacher's like, okay, you two should do some teamwork, and and your teachers like you guys should you guys try and work together. So and then this is let's say you do uh you just don't share ideas and you just start working on your own. So that's not working together. And I do have an example of teamwork that I that from a book. So I was reading a book and it had a very good example of teamwork. What was the example? So like there were some friends in the book who were who were um supposed to write something together and the and and they got an A plus on it because they worked together on it. And that's what they were supposed to do. And they got A plus? Yeah, they got they all got A plus on on their poem they wrote together. Yay! For teamwork.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's what teamwork can do. So yeah, so we are still just decorating our hats together.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's so much fun. Mom, maybe you should put some some ocean water and clouds, and let's make it look magical. That's a great idea. Because it's mom and I make magic, it's not mom and I not magic, right? Yes, definitely.
SPEAKER_01So we are also sharing our stuff with each other, and yeah, like she had a good idea in her mind, and she shared that with me. So that actually helped me.
SPEAKER_00Wait, do you think we should draw some wands and stuff? You can't go wrong with wands. Yeah, I'm gonna draw a wand on my own. I'm gonna write mom and I make magic. Now let me just get a piece of paper. Another thing, you shouldn't really argue because arguing, you can do that in teamwork, but friendly arguing, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01Yes, that's a really good point that you brought up. So, not the mean arguing where you fight. That is a big no-no. Never do that, always avoid that. But the healthy kind of disagreeing, I wouldn't even call it arguing, it's more like sharing different ideas and trying to understand each other's point of view. That kind of disagreement is actually really good because it helps people learn and work together better.
SPEAKER_00I would just call it like disagreeing, you know?
SPEAKER_01Yes, so if you have a disagreement, it's better to talk about that disagreement in a nice way, in a polite way.
SPEAKER_00Not just um, this is what some people would do. They would be like, excuse me, that's a bad idea. I want to do it, blah blah blah blah blah, that's start a whole entire fight, and then you would also get in trouble. And how does that make you feel? And that might make the other person be like, I was just saying a suggestion.
SPEAKER_01Yes, and it feels unnecessary, and honestly, it's not very kind. The person who was being polite might end up feeling hurt or confused. That's why during teamwork, if you disagree with something and disagreements do happen, it's important to talk about it in a calm, respectful way. And you can still share your thoughts, but just in a way that keeps everyone feeling comfortable and heard. Do you want to give an example?
SPEAKER_00And get it to something. When we are doing something, teamwork is not is also like let's say somebody is asking, like, right now, I'm gonna ask right now. What is the spelling of magic? I don't know it. Mm-hmm. Let's say, like, if you were working in the class and you asked the spelling, the uh let's say the other person's like, how do you not know the spelling? Just chat yourself.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that is that just does not sound good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and if you're not allowed to share, just say, I'm sorry, we're not allowed to share. And if they keep on doing that, then just ignore them. Right? Mm-hmm. That's you being the good kid.
SPEAKER_01And maybe our listeners can let us know what they think. Yeah. What do you think? Yeah, um, actually I need to know how to spell magic.
SPEAKER_00Alright, so mom can help you. Yeah. I can just look on when it says we're on cost. Actually, no, I can't look right now. Yes.
SPEAKER_01M? Here. You want some help spelling it out? Yeah. Ma chick. I need to know. What do you think? You started with the right letter. You can do it. A there you go, ma chick. G? Yes. I. There you go. C. But you got it, you got it. I know you're thinking it correctly.
SPEAKER_00Oh, it's C-E, not I C. It's C I not I C. It is I C.
SPEAKER_01Magic. You spelled it correctly. Yay!
SPEAKER_00I just did it.
SPEAKER_01And you did it all on your own. I was there to support you. That's what teamwork is. Teamwork! We're giving examples of teamwork. I love that as we're talking.
SPEAKER_00Mommy, also something that I needed to mention. That like when you brought up hats, that was actually kind of also teamwork because I wasn't gonna think of doing this teamwork thing. Yes. You are giving such a good idea. I love this teamwork talk. I love it too. And mommy, you should get some decorating.
unknownYes.
SPEAKER_01So let's finish our decorating.
SPEAKER_00Does anybody mommy, have you done teamwork with somebody?
SPEAKER_01Of course I have. I'm doing it with you. And besides that.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I have an example of teamwork. Mm-hmm. So, mommy, you know how sometimes parents from school they go and help out other parents with putting down. Oh, yes. That's also teamwork.
SPEAKER_01I have done teamwork with other grown-ups. Definitely. I have helped them, they have helped me. And also substitute teachers by helping the other teachers who can't be there, right?
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01So teamwork can be at home with families.
SPEAKER_00Honestly everywhere.
SPEAKER_01It is everywhere. Can't go wrong with teamwork. What other places do you think? And this is a question from for our listeners. Um, where do you see teamwork happening? Where do you get to do teamwork yourself?
SPEAKER_00Oh, I know where you can see teamwork. Whatever let's say you are going to your favorite singer and their dancers and everything, they're also working together. Yes. That you are full of great examples. Yeah. And when and if you're open in business, and let's say you're doing lemonade style with your friends, you can just say, Oh, I have a good idea. I'm doing it, I got a credit, I'm gonna get can't just do that.
SPEAKER_01Yes. So I have something to share with other parents listening. So for those grown-ups that are listening, I have something to share with you. Maybe a grown-up is listening with their child. Maybe a grown-up is sitting there, their child.
SPEAKER_00Maybe they also want to learn something like things they can do.
SPEAKER_01So, yes, that's a good question. This is mainly for all the lovely children out there. But if you have your grown-up with you, well, this part is for them. When children are working or playing, you can try gently inviting shared thinking.
SPEAKER_00What else do you think?
SPEAKER_01For example, for example, a parent can ask, how can you do this together? Or what can you each do to help? So if they want to encourage teamwork amongst children, they can probably ask these kind of questions. And teamwork grows when children feel included, heard, and supported. Do you agree with that? Yeah, that's how teamwork becomes stronger when you feel that you are part of the team.
SPEAKER_00I have a few examples of when people don't let you feel in what you're saying. So let's say, like the person there's some person and they're just like and also your encouragement. Like, like, mommy, did you draw this? Yes.
SPEAKER_01It looks great. So I drew a sunshine, a smiley sunshine face. But I'm sorry, but it can't be over here. That's okay. You can cut it out if you want. Yes, that's exactly what I was going to do. We're almost done with our hats, and honestly, they're turning out so cute. We've been adding little details here and there, and it's been such a fun project to do together while talking about teamwork. So, what was your example of a time when someone didn't make another person feel included in the team?
SPEAKER_00Like, let's say you're playing volleyball and PE, like, just because somebody's really bad at it, you don't have to just say, hey, why? Why are you doing this like that? And then and then and then just pass it to one person. Uh like I wasn't me and my best friend, we weren't really getting the ball. So, what is the best thing to do there?
SPEAKER_01Well, what do you think should happen?
SPEAKER_00Well, what they really should have done, they should have passed it to everybody. Like, start from one person to do even if they're bad, they should be like, come on, you can do it, you can do it. Not rushing like do it, do it, do it, but you can do it. I agree with you. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That is exactly what is supposed to happen. Yeah. Because in volleyball or any other game, everyone should get a chance to be included and encouraged. And that's what good teamwork is. Where everyone gets a chance to join in and learn, even when they are still beginners or practicing. Because everyone starts as a beginner sometimes, and good teammates help each other learn.
SPEAKER_00Like they were just like, it we're not playing catch. Why are you catching the ball? We're playing volleyball. I'm just like, it's my first time.
SPEAKER_01Can you stop saying that? I'm really glad you stood up for yourself. In teamwork situations, it's important to speak up when something doesn't feel fair, but also to do it calmly so that people can understand you. And I'm sure that wasn't easy, but you handled it well.
SPEAKER_00Um, one of them was just doing this on purpose. They were just g throwing the volleyball all the way there, and like two against two or just two against one were just having a fight. Oh no. Then what happened to all of this?
SPEAKER_01And I'm just like, come on, PE, just end. Exactly. You were left with an unpleasant feeling. You were wishing for just it to end.
SPEAKER_00I just wanted, I just wish we could all get along and cheer each other on. Then I would be smiling, I'd be like, that was so much fun.
SPEAKER_01You just showed with your real life example what is the good side of teamwork and also what can go wrong when teamwork isn't working well. And you know, teamwork isn't just about winning, it's about making sure everyone gets to play, learn, and feel part of the game.
SPEAKER_00So we're almost done with our. So, should we start the story already?
SPEAKER_01And they look amazing. I love how we worked on them together. That's what teamwork really feels like.
unknownFun.
SPEAKER_01So, yes, let's step into our teamwork story. But we'll continue this in part two of our episode bye bye. Bye bye. Bye for now. See you in part two. Thanks for tuning in.
