Well, happy Saturday.
SPEAKER_01I know. We did it.
SPEAKER_00We made it to Saturday.
SPEAKER_01It's been a good week. Has it? I think so. I mean, it's been busy, but it's been good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. It has been busy for me too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Since I'm going back to work next week, I like tried to fit everything into this week. Like seeing everybody and then I spread myself too thin.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you're like, I'm tired. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I told you my Thursday plans got cancelled. I was so happy.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00I just like cleaned a little bit more and hung out with Delta. I'm like um obsessed with the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00And um, they have a show on Netflix that runs right now, but they used to have a show that I think aired on CMT.
SPEAKER_01Wow. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00The new season or series is called America's Sweethearts. The old one's called Making the Team. And it follows these girls through their tryouts and training week. And like if they make the team for the Dallas Cows Cowboy Sharliers. And they're like the the the most elite elite of the dance world.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_00Like obviously there's like the rockheads and like Broadway dancers and stuff, but it's like the most prestigious dance team to make. And I love elite athletes. So I just watch the show for hours and hours and hours and hours.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's so impressive. It's so impressive. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I love that type of like gifting, I guess. Yeah, you know what's cute is I've I started watching it years ago. Um, and then I ended up hiring a gal who was a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. And she's amazing. She was great. I loved working with her. Uh she was on my team for a few years. Um, and then the new season, season three, America's sweethearts, came out recently. And I don't watch a lot of like regular TV.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Because I don't know, it just doesn't like sit well with me. Right.
SPEAKER_01You have to be careful. Yeah. That's like a whole nother topic. But yeah, you have to be really careful.
SPEAKER_00Of like what you consume. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I decided I was gonna watch the third season, and I sat down and I said, this is cheesy, but I said a quick prayer, and I was like, Lord, if if this is not something you want me to watch, give me like, give me a sign. Let me know to turn it off. Right. If this is not something you want me to watch. The first episode starts, and it's the one of the most popular cheerleaders. It's her talking over like a video of her dancing, and she says, Everything I do and all of the gift that I've been given, I only want to use it in a way to glorify my creator.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I love that.
SPEAKER_00And I was like, Okay, Jesus, I hear you. Yeah, it was like the just watch it or anime.
SPEAKER_01Right, right.
SPEAKER_00I know it was she's like super inspiring to me. She's so upfront. Her name's Reese about her faith.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And is like uh so unapologetic about it. Like every every time she's on camera, and it's not performative at all. You can tell that it's genuine. Yeah, it's just what she is, yeah. Just so unabashed in her uh like just who she is. You know, when like the outside reflects the inside, you can tell that she's super rooted and she's super devout and she loves Jesus because it just like shows.
SPEAKER_01Right. What comes out of her. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know the ver I can't think of the verse, but out of the oh my goodness. Like the what you like, you're you could what is uh what is it? What is it? The mouth's out of the heart, the mouth speaks, or whatever. What is that verse? I don't know. Oh, this is gonna bother me. We'll have to find it. I know. I wish I had a like holy spirit.
SPEAKER_00Well, while you're looking, welcome to Through It, everybody. Welcome back. Thank you so much for listening again. If you've been listening to the conversation that's been happening, you probably have realized or noticed a new voice, a different voice. Um, our beloved Kimberly Hubbard is visiting her family in Korea right now. So we have a special guest, special guest co-host on Through It, Marisol. Welcome, Marisol.
SPEAKER_01Thank you for having me. Honestly, shout out to Kim and Ari. I'm very honored to be here.
SPEAKER_00You all may have, if you've been listening for a while, um Marisol sat in on um a recording of several months ago at this point, and she just gave like background commentary. She didn't have a mic, but now she's got a mic.
SPEAKER_01Got a mic. It's kind of scary, y'all. This is scary, but no, it's not scary. It's not scary.
SPEAKER_00Did you find that verse?
SPEAKER_01I did. It is from the heart. So from the heart, the mouth speaks in Matthew 12, 34.
SPEAKER_00From the heart, the mouth speaks.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, our words are an overflow of our innermost thoughts, beliefs, and true character, revealing what we hold on to. So, with that girl, you could tell she loves Jesus.
SPEAKER_00If you guys haven't been watching DCC, America's sweetheart, shout out to Reese. Yeah, she's not on the team anymore, but she's on the this the series. Come on. Just a sister in Christ. We should pray for her.
SPEAKER_01We should. She probably made an impact. I mean, you know, a lot of girls.
SPEAKER_00Bodyfar is more like the most famous girl on that team. Oh, is she? And I know it's the hand of God.
SPEAKER_01It is the hand of God.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I love that. Come on.
SPEAKER_00Well, um, thank you so much for being here, Marty Soul.
SPEAKER_01Of course.
SPEAKER_00I'm glad you've come. Mighty Soul and I met through um the Bible study that Kim does at her house. And we met probably close to a year ago at this point. Yeah. And then after seeing each other every other Wednesday, we've become good friends, I would say. And now I just, I just love her. I just love you. I'm so glad you're here.
SPEAKER_01Oh, thank you. I love you guys.
SPEAKER_00And extra exciting last night. Money soul's here because she spent the night. She stayed the night at my house. And last night we went to see Forrest Frank perform.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00And it was great.
SPEAKER_01It was so good.
SPEAKER_00What did you think? What was your favorite part?
SPEAKER_01Ooh, okay. There was multiple parts.
SPEAKER_00Tell me, give me all your thoughts. I know you have thoughts.
SPEAKER_01I do have thoughts. Okay, so uh a little bit of a background. I used to love going to concerts. Like concerts were my thing. Um, and so I was really excited because I was like, whoa, I don't think I've I've been to Christian concerts, but probably before Chr, you know, probably whenever like yeah, really devout. Devout, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um have you been to one this big? It was huge.
SPEAKER_01No, no, no, no, I haven't. That was also okay, yeah. That was my initial thought, was like, wow, this is first of all, there were so many people. Every seat seemed like it was taken. Yeah. And you know, you just see these stadiums filled of secular stuff that it was so cool to see a stadium full of people, yeah, or not a stadium, but like an arena full of people coming for Jesus, yeah. It was amazing, and I was just so encouraged by that because you know, like, you know, Forrest, I'm sure, loved music, loved producing, you know, like that that's the gift he has. And I'm sure growing up, he probably wanted to be, he said he wanted to be a secular artist. And you know, it's just amazing to see what God can do with your yes. I think that's what I was so encouraged. Like, you know, not saying that I would like to be an artist, but like there's gifts. I thought like there's gifts in me that like what would God not do?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And how like he just wants your yes, you know?
SPEAKER_00And so what can God do with your yes?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. It's so good. Um, oh somewhat uh one of my professors said, put your yes on the table and let God put it on the map.
SPEAKER_00That's good too.
SPEAKER_01I was like, oh, that's dope. Yeah, I love that. But yeah, it was just amazing. I was just super encouraged by that. And then in the middle of a set, they had a full worship, yeah. I don't know what we call it, like rendition.
SPEAKER_00They had well they say worship segments.
SPEAKER_01Segment where it was um what it what songs were there?
SPEAKER_00Well, who was that artist? Corey Corey Asbury. Corey Asbury. So like mid-set of Force Frank, Corey Asbury comes out on onto the stage and just does worship. And like, I don't know, I think we could call Force Frank's music Christian music, and maybe some of the songs are worshipy, but it's it's not like it's not like vertical worship, yeah, right. Usually, but Corey Asbury came out and we were doing like vertical worship for a while, and he sang like all the good the good, yeah, all the hits that we're singing on Sundays with our worship teams in church. And that, yeah, I feel like that was probably my favorite part.
SPEAKER_01It was, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And it was amazing to see that um Force Rank didn't use that as his break, he didn't get off stage and go sit backstage and get water or anything. He sat there on his knees the whole time worshiping the Lord with all of us, right? That was awesome.
SPEAKER_01That was no, that was amazing because like what a humble guy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01He could have gone to go get a break. Yeah, you know, all these artists, like that's pretty industry standard.
SPEAKER_00They yeah, somebody I think when I saw Brandon Lake, I think that happened. Yeah, because Pat Barrett came out when I saw Brandon Link and Pat Barrett, first they sang a couple songs together, and then Pat Barrett did two or three alone, and Brandon Lake got off stage.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So it's cool to see like that the the humility, the humility in the the hunger for Jesus, right? And I loved that he immediately he comes out, sings his first song, like sings the first song, doesn't say anything, and then after that song finishes, immediately goes into prayer and prays for the whole stadium.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yes, that was amazing. Also, at the what else did he do at the beginning that I was so impressed by? Um away? Okay. I was really impressed by the what did they do like a they there was the guy who was doing they had like an audio clip of just before he came out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And it was like in scripture, it was really encouraging of like the Jesus generation. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then they had um it said like everybody was here because somebody told somebody who told somebody who told somebody who told you.
SPEAKER_01Right, right. It went from the disciples to yeah, now you know about the gospel. And so I thought that was so Oh, that's right.
SPEAKER_00He started with talking about how Jesus called the disciples and said they were gonna be fishers of men. Yeah, and then they told somebody who told somebody. Yeah, and then you think about that thing, that is how it happened, right? That's crazy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm talking about word of mouth. Amen. It just exploded, but um I was gonna say too, and then when the introduction, it wasn't like an intro to and now come like to the stage for is Frank. It was like the intro Jesus, the intro Jesus, which I thought it was like so cool.
SPEAKER_00I love that. Yeah, they're like, we're all here for one person, for man, and it wasn't for us, it was Jesus.
SPEAKER_01It was Jesus, yeah. So I love that, you know, because it just everything was pointed to Jesus. Yeah, it was great, it was a great time. It was great.
SPEAKER_00Thank you so much for taking me.
SPEAKER_01Of course, I'm glad you could come. I know I Ari was stayed up probably later than later than I have in a while. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00We were up to like almost midnight.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was fun.
SPEAKER_00It was a late night. A lot different than when I used to be up late for concerts.
SPEAKER_01I know, right? Come on.
SPEAKER_00What was the last concert you secular concert you went to?
SPEAKER_01Uh oh. I don't I would say probab maybe the weekend or scary. Yeah, that's another, yeah. Like that might have been what had pushed me so far this way, you know?
SPEAKER_00Jesus was like, come here, money small. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01No, that was I see the weekend too.
SPEAKER_00I saw the weekend over 10 years ago.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And I feel it the so I've seen them twice. This last one was really weird.
SPEAKER_00I yes, I've seen like videos and clips. I don't want to get too woo-woo for the podcast. Not woo-woo, but let I feel like the things that happen at that show are from the other team, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, 100%. And it's just cool to see the contrast.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yes, from what we did last night.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I was so like, I was so encouraged. Yeah, it was amazing.
SPEAKER_00I think the last secular concert I went to was Limp Biscuit. Do you even know who that is? No. Oh my god, you're too young.
SPEAKER_01No, and also, you know, the like I didn't I grew up with Hispanic parents, you know.
SPEAKER_00I grew up with Hispanic parents. Okay, but like yes, but like they didn't look you're less generations removed from the city. There we go.
SPEAKER_01There we go. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00We were more whitewashed.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like I when people show me music in the 60s and 70s, some songs I'm like, oh, I actually don't know any of these. You know, like the most popular ones.
SPEAKER_00No, I've had to really catch up with my family, has always been super musical, so they're like they're very invested into music.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, love it. Great. Speaking of um what you said, I loved how you brought that up. The um the first part of the concert or the opening of it of talking about the disciples and how the disciples told somebody who told somebody who told somebody. It's just this this this lineage or long line. It's not even a lineage, but like this long line of evangelists.
SPEAKER_01So good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um, it's that feeds like perfectly into what we're gonna talk about today. So actually, a little like context and backstory. Um, my soul actually holds a virtual Bible study every other Thursday, and it has it has blessed me so much. I have um there's a lot of people that aren't I didn't grow up in Washington. My family's not in Washington, and I know a lot of people in different parts of the country that I would love to share. Like you can talk on the phone, yes, and we should, but there's something different about like getting women together, and we talk about this all the time on the podcast, but getting women together and studying the word together and discipling each other in real time. And so you sort of doing this, how long has it been?
SPEAKER_01Okay, four. I'm bad at math. We're in chapter four. Oh, so we've got eight to two, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because we've done a chapter, no, it's been eight weeks ago.
SPEAKER_01Eight weeks ago, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but only every other week.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00And my cousin comes, my sister-in-law is there. Yeah you have friends from different parts of the world, North Carolina, and how did that start? Like what prompted that?
SPEAKER_01Excuse me. So I it really all started because um, so part of my coming to Jesus moment was a woman disciple, really like taking me under her wing and starting a Bible study with me once a week.
SPEAKER_00Just the two of you. Just two of us.
SPEAKER_01We read the book of John week after week. I was so desperate. I was like, I need Jesus. Um, and so we just started reading John week after week, and then by the end of it, I was like, oh my goodness, like this completely changed my life. It really just I knew that read, you know, I think about it now. While I was reading it, I wasn't thinking I was understanding, but by the end of it, it was like my heart had changed, and it was just amazing. So um I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I felt like I always as you were going through the book of John, like in real time, it didn't feel like anything was happening, yeah, but it was it was like behind the scenes, yes, I love that internally, really.
SPEAKER_01Um, and so uh fast forward, I decided to go into ministry school, Bible college, and again, my life, I mean, there was just super refining year, and again, I feel like I went in one person came out a completely different person. And so, fast forward a few months ago, my my mentor, I would she texted me saying she was gonna, she felt like it was time for the one-on-one discipling. Like our time was up that she loved me and she'd always be there for me, but that she felt that I had church community and you know, her job was finished essentially just one-on-one discipleship. And I was like, okay, I was like, love you. This is I was like, this is crazy because I had just sorry, I'm all over the place. I had just thought about I have friends who don't live close to me, and I had a friend who's so eager to learn more, and there isn't community for her where she lives. It's a small town. We should just do a Bible study, you and me virtually. And then confirmation after confirmation, it just felt like no, this is something you you need to start and extend it to uh I I didn't like extend it publicly, but I know there was girls like Naomi or yeah, who also were needing community, and so that's how it started. And then I told you and Kim and some of the girls, and then you told somebody who told somebody who told somebody. Come on, I love that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Jesus is so life-giving too. It it's I feel like every Bible study I do is different. Yeah, that's why I do multiple. Yeah, because there's you're in rooms with different different women in different seasons who are different ages, and there's something to glean from every person in every season, even if somebody is younger than you, yeah. Even if somebody is, you know, has had a completely different life, even if they just found Christ days ago.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00There there's something in their testimony that's going to like flame your fire. Yeah, yeah. So I um am just so thankful for what God has done with your yes. And we have been going through the book of John, chapter by chapter, week after week. And this week we went through John chapter four, which is um a few different things happened, but the the beginning of John chapter four is Jesus meeting the woman at the well. And this I just loved this study, and there were some some lingering things that happened um after it that I really wanted to talk about with Mari Soul. I wanted to just continue the conversation. So I'm gonna read um a little bit of John chapter four. I think I'm gonna go from verse one to verse 29, which is many verses, but if you're here, you love the Bible. Come on, so you're not going to mind reading skip.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Someone just got convicted. No.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I'm gonna read from the ESV. Um, John chapter 4, verse 1. Now, when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John, although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples, he left Judea and departed again for Galilee. And he had to pass through Samaria. So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob's well was there, so Jesus, wearied as as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour. A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, Give me a drink. For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. The Samaritan woman said to him, How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria? For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Jesus answered her, if you knew the gift of God and who it is that is saying to you, Give me a drink, you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water. The woman said to him, Sir, do you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock. Jesus said to her, Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water that I give him will never be thirsty. Thirsty again. The water that I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life. The woman said to him, Sir, give me this water so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water. Jesus said to her, Go call your husband and come here. The woman answered him, I have no husband. Jesus said to her, You're right. You're right in saying, I have no husband, for you have had five husbands, and the one you the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true. Verse 19. The woman said to him, Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship. Jesus said to her, Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. You you worship what you do not know. We worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. For the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. The woman said to him, I know that the Messiah is coming, he who is called Christ. When he comes, he will tell us all things. Jesus said to her, I who speak to you am He. Just then the disciples came back. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one no one said, What do you seek? Or why are you talking with her? So the woman who told So the woman left her jar of water excuse me. Verse 28. So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ? Here we go. So good. 29 verses. Thanks for sticking it out. That was so even when my eyes give up on me and I read different sentences. You did great. Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, so um, I think a lot of us are familiar with this story, right? The the woman at the well, that she is a Samaritan woman, and that Jesus approaches her and um kind of calls her out, right? Like he's he asked her for a drink and then she's caught off guard because for one, in those days, Jews did not mingle with the Samaritans. They believed the Samaritans to be um beneath them, they believed to be superior to them. They they believed that their blood was more pure because Samaritans were um were Jewish and then had mixed with um other other people. Gentiles? Gentiles, yeah. So they had um their blood was different, which is why they thought they were superior to them. Also, um, men and women didn't speak like this either alone. So it was it was very odd for Jesus to one be speaking to a woman, two, extra odd for him to be speaking to a Samaritan woman. Right. But that's why it's so intentional, right? Right. And not only is he speaking to a woman who's a Samaritan, he's speaking to a woman who's a Samaritan who has had five husbands and is now living with another man who's not even her husband. That she's, you know, like not, I don't even think like probably Samaritans wanted much to do with her. Right.
SPEAKER_01Because she was going to get water from the well at the sixth hour. The sixth hour, sixth hour, which was like around noon. Yeah, which you're not going in the blaring hot.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it would have been the hottest part of the day. Typically in those days, women got up very early, sometimes before the sun, and would go out to get their water for the day early before it got hot. But obviously, she didn't do that because she didn't want to be seen with them. Right. Or they didn't want her around.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00For I mean, there's the husband thing, and then who else? But I mean, what other reasons that we don't know that's not written in here? Maybe that's it. We don't want to like add anything to the to the text, but yeah. Um, she was shunned. She was an outcast. She was an outcast.
SPEAKER_01And Jesus came to her. He knew he wanted to meet her.
SPEAKER_00That is, I think, something that we don't I think we don't like emphasize enough that we know we we pray the prayers of like Lord, meet them where they're at. But this is like this everything that happened, every all of these words happened. The Bible is real. And he legitimately met this woman where she was at. Right. Came to find her alone at a well, whatever shame or uncomfort she felt, and wanted to tell her, like, basically, I see you. Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there's nothing you've done that's scary enough for me not to come to you, you know. I love that so much. Even um, I had read in a commentary doing like the prep work for the Bible study that um Jewish people wouldn't even travel through some uh Samaria. Yes, they would around, they would go around, even though it was the shortest way to Galilee, I believe. Yeah, they would go around because they avoided Samaritan. So I just feel like there's just he went, he was counter counterculture and still, like I just love that it the the gospel even is counter-culture, it's still counter-culture, like we go after the people, like he goes leaves the 99 for the one, you know? And so I love it so much.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, if I mean what does he say? I think it's in Matthew where it's like the sick are the ones that need a doctor, right?
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00That's the he came for the sick, right? And spoil alert, we're all sick, we're all sick. Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Jesus. We need you, and you know what is I love is that he he calls out, I mean, he knows everything that this woman has done. Yeah, right. And he calls out probably like the worst of the worst of it.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00And specifically says, he doesn't meet her and say, like, hey, hey, lady, yeah, you have had five husbands. Right. He says, go call your husband. And I feel like it's it's reminding me, I don't know that this is, I'm coming up with this, so I could be very wrong, but it's reminding me a little bit of like um in Genesis um at the fall of man when God says, Adam, where are you? He knows where Adam is, right? But he's still asking him a question, he's giving him a chance. It's an it's an invitation to repent, right? Right. It's like giving him a chance to be honest. Right. So Jesus also knows everything about this woman, right? And he says, Go call your husband. He already knows what she's doing. So he's giving her this option for her to be honest with him. Right. And she is. She is. And he says that. He says, Yeah, what you said is true. Yeah. Like he recognizes that she was honest in her shame. That's so good. And I even before she says, like she calls him a prophet first, and then she then she says, Is this the Christ? So before those revelations, she is still honest with him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. That is so good.
SPEAKER_00I mean, that's something about being bold there.
SPEAKER_01Right, right. And the repentance aspect. And oh, that's so beautiful, actually. It's like you see repent, like her being on, like repent, yeah, really repenting, bringing she's being bringing it to the light, yeah. Yeah. And then um, and then also like the teaching on um just like the salvation that he offers her. Like the re she leaves there redeemed, you know what I mean? And what does she do? She tells everybody.
SPEAKER_00She tells everybody. She tells everybody. See this woman is regarded with being the first evangelist, a woman who had had five, almost six husbands. Right. Jesus chose her, a Samaritan woman, nevertheless. Right. That was shunned by all these people, shunned by Jews, shunned by her own people, and Jesus chose that woman to go start telling people about him.
SPEAKER_01I I think that is amazing. And that just that is so intentional in the Bible.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's just encouraging. It's like it's very encouraging. Doesn't matter what your background is, your race, ethnicity, what you did in the world, like you are now living, you are um you have been made me new in Christ. Yeah. And um, yeah, it's just amazing to see that he can use anybody.
SPEAKER_00And in any circumstance. Any circumstance, yeah. And this, like she she also knew scripture, right? Because she says to him, um, I know that the Messiah is coming. Right. So she knew that he was coming. She was. We had talked about this even in in Bible study. Like, this woman was likely not like a scholar, right? She wasn't like a teacher, a scholar, somebody who was held in high regard in terms of Judaism, right? You know, like in terms of their beliefs.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00But she knew scripture enough to know that the Messiah was coming back. Enough to know that like when he extended, he extended something to her, she was like, that's it, I'm taking it. Yeah. That there have been even like maybe seeds planted prior to this.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that we don't know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Because she at least had that that much knowledge, right?
SPEAKER_01That is so cool. And then for her for it to be like watered by Jesus. And grown. And grown and then out, like the she told everybody about Jesus. And I don't know, I think that's amazing. And there's so much to that, just the testimony, yes, and sharing it. And also, I don't know, I was just um encouraged by that alone. Like, you know, it doesn't, you don't need to be uh, I have to remind myself that because sometimes you can I don't know anything, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But same, it's like, no, you have a testimony, and it doesn't mean you're gonna tell them your entire hour-long testimony, but there is something that like it could be so small, like Jesus met me, encountered me here, and you would be like it Jesus changed my life, changed my life, and even in the way that you just live, like you were saying that like the what was the verse in Matthew that you said? I don't want to misquote it. The heart, something about the heart and the mouth, yeah, yeah. Out of the how out of out of the heart, the mouth speaks, like that's all that's you evangelizing, also. Like, even if you're not speaking about Jesus himself, right? The way that you interact with the world, yeah, the way this this cheerleader that I was talking about, Reese, that that woman is an evangelist, right? She is evangelizing whether she realizes it or not. Be just because there are so many people, this is like an Emmy nominated show. So many people watching her walk out what it is to follow Christ, and they're impressed. Right. Because it testifies. They're looking at her and thinking, like, what is that? I want some of that. Totally. I'll have what she's having. So good.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Yeah. No, I love that. I think it's and and that's what that's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_00To the point where it's like she's not quoting 20 scriptures and you know, and she some of us are called to be apologists, and some of us are not. Yeah, and there's a time and a place for apologetics, and I love apologetics. It gets me real fired up.
SPEAKER_01I know it challenges. Yeah, no, I love it.
SPEAKER_00We were we are always been called to be witnesses. Yes. And if you're a witness in a court of law, what do you do?
SPEAKER_01Testify.
SPEAKER_00You testify about what? The truth. You testify your your personal experience. Yeah, yeah. You give uh a testimony of your personal experience, right? Right? Yeah, Jesus didn't call us to be defense attorneys, right? He's our defense attorney, right? Come on. He said, Go be witness.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So good.
SPEAKER_00And then she went out and told everybody. I love this about like new believers. Yeah. The way that you see one a mature Christian or somebody who is spiritually mature, it doesn't mean that you have you have degrees in theology or you've been a Christian your entire life, or you've read the entire Bible 67 times, although I think you should. Absolutely. You you do need to learn. Yes. But there is a certain fire that happens when somebody is genuinely transformed by a radical transformation by the Holy Spirit. And that testimony is what goes and plants seeds.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00So that others can come water it and God can give the increase.
SPEAKER_01So good. And he literally speaks to that uh later on in the in the chapter about um, I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored and you have entered into their labor.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Sometimes you just plant the seed.
SPEAKER_00Other times you sometimes you're reaping, and sometimes you're sowing. Come on, yeah. And sometimes we think about, I mean, I know I do because there's other places that Jesus says those same words and you think about it for yourself. Like you're sowing your own seed and then you're reaping your own harvest. But we gotta sow and reap other people too. Right, right.
SPEAKER_01You never know who's just waiting, you know. That's it's it's so cool to be to be just obedient to the Holy Spirit because it could be somebody's prodigal son or prodigal daughter who you could be the first seed, yeah, or you could be the last seed.
SPEAKER_00Come on, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I love even Forrest Frank yesterday.
SPEAKER_00What'd he say?
SPEAKER_01The someone prayed for.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01That was really powerful.
SPEAKER_00That was really powerful.
SPEAKER_01Prayed for me.
SPEAKER_00He had a s he has a song called Somebody Prayed, and and going into the song, he he gave a testimony about how his grandma every night used to lay her hands on him and pray over him. And he said from his mouth, he said, I it there it makes no sense that I'm standing here right now in front of all of you. And I think the only reason that that is happening is because she did that. She prayed. My grandma prayed, my mom prayed, and that's the truth. I'm I feel the same way for me. There's no reason I should be where I am. But I know I have a long line of women and I and men who have prayed for me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. How amazing is that?
SPEAKER_00And somebody told somebody.
SPEAKER_01We can be a part of somebody's answered prayer. Amen. So I don't know. That is very that is so encouraging. Also, I really love the part where um John, who wrote the book of John, um, says that uh she left the water jar behind. That she was so excited and she knew she loved what she was doing. Because think about it, water is at that time, water was a need. Yeah. If you needed water, yeah. It's funny, she went living water, right? That's what I'm saying. She went in for a which I love though. Like she she went with a genuine need and left, like she didn't even care about the jar. Like, she left.
SPEAKER_00She was satiated, she was hydrated, she was hydrated, she had everything she needed.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, how amazing is that?
SPEAKER_00I just love that like perfect contentment from Jesus, yeah. Because that's all you need.
SPEAKER_01Yep, come on, that was so good.
SPEAKER_00So, in um during our study, you had asked us some like really thought-provoking questions that I was I actually really appreciated. I loved the questions because it prompts you to think in a way outside of your own thoughts. I I also enjoy looking looking at scripture and thinking, like, you know, we've talked about how to study scripture here. I also know sometimes I will read it as I'm studying and think like what just doesn't make sense to me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then that's my prompting to dig in. But when you meet with other people and it's not your like uh private devotional time, having somebody else ask you questions really makes you think outside of your own self, outside of your experience, your life, the things you know and understand. And you asked us this question and you didn't make us answer it, but I'm gonna make us answer it about um that I just thought was so cool that if Jesus met you at the well, what would he lovingly tell you to surrender and be honest about? So that's what he did with this woman, right? He told her in a very loving fashion, kind of like in a in a very Jesus way, like, go get your husband. And then she was honest and surrendered. She doesn't have a husband, she's had five. So if Jesus met you at the well tomorrow, what do you think he would ask you to surrender and be honest about? Surrender to him and be honest about yeah. What do you think? Do you have anything? I do.
SPEAKER_01I'm putting you on this point. I have a couple things where I um well, I'm a first-generation um child, I guess. Like I was the I'm first born here, and so education is really important in our family, which I agree. Um, and you know, life happened, and I haven't been able to finish my bachelor's degree. And I think that is something very important to my family and to me, and but I think career was such a big emphasis. And so I feel like there's a part of me that is still fighting real truly like continuing a career, but also like what it got versus what is God calling me to do, you know?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think Do you think they're different? I think God is calling you in a direction that's different than the perception or perspective you had of what your career would be. Yes.
SPEAKER_01So I and not that not to say that I'm not gonna have a maybe a business in the future, but I definitely am more business oriented and um, you know, I love creating, I think it's fun.
SPEAKER_00It's like a would you say that you're entrepreneurial?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I am, yeah, naturally, without a gift, it is a gift, but I I feel like the Lord is like, you know, yes, that's great, but maybe not right now. And so with the first year of Bible college ministry school, it's other things have been revealed, or you know, maybe going through a more ministry route. Um, so I don't know. It's like I think it's one of those things that I'm really having to, I'm I'm going to have to process of surrendering, to be honest.
SPEAKER_00That you thought your life was gonna look to God's will.
SPEAKER_01Yes. And it's easy said it's easier said than done. Oh, for sure.
SPEAKER_00You know, it's like when you believe that your life is gonna go in one way, yeah. And the it typically this is how I mean, this is how the Lord has worked for me, where it's like the the opportunities and the blessings and the the redirections that he has given me is way different, vastly different, things I never even thought of.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00And it can be difficult when you have when you've had a thought process or an idea of what your life was gonna look like for so long. Right. And then Jesus is like turn 180 degrees and go in a different direction.
SPEAKER_01Which by the way, like I'm all in. Yeah. I really I am, I love Jesus, and I mean he's like radically changed my life. Like my life has completely done a 180. But I think the career thing is one of the things where it's like, oh, okay, even that, you know? Yeah, he's asking for that. And um and it could be just in this season, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Exactly.
SPEAKER_00But you know, like it's so simple to say, like, but we know God is so good and we know his plan is gonna be so good, but it's true, like, let's not normalize that whatever he has mapped out for you, whatever decisions that he said this is what is best for for Marisol, yeah, is going to be better.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00And it might be different, it might not be what you have pictured, right? But it will be better. Yeah, it'll be kingdom work.
SPEAKER_01A thousand percent. And that's fulfilling.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01That's what I tell myself. I'm like, that that is that's like the best work, actually. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, that's what I would. Anything else? Say I'm surrendering. Um, I think that's that's all you can. That's all I can think about right now. I know I was telling Ari before I was like, wait, do we actually have to answer it? It's a really personal question. Yeah, which I'm okay. You know, I'm an open book.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But I'm like, I think that's all I have. How about you?
SPEAKER_00Um, I I need to think more to give a more thoughtful answer, but I am thinking that just in this moment and listening to what you're talking about, and how God is calling me in the exact opposite direction, and how that has been not easy. You know, like there he did, I I was so career-driven and so career-focused that it was 100% my idol. It was all it encompassed everything for 15 years, 15 years, solid, that it was just progress in your career, be more successful on my own accord. Until I had my, you know, radical encounter where Jesus changed me. And it was so, he was so gentle and so kind in the redirection of just telling me, quit your job, stay with me, take these months to just grow in relationship with me. And it was uncomfortable, but it wasn't difficult. I love Jesus and I love learning. And I loved not working for that time. Right. And he was like, he gave me however many months. I quit last September. And it's now July, and I go back to work next Monday doing the same thing I was doing. Right. But you're a completely different person. And I and I would love to do something like what you what you are talking about. Like, all I want to do is win souls. All I want to do is evangelize. All I want to do is study the word of God, and I want to tell people about Jesus and how he changed me and how he is the way, the truth, and the life, and what he did for all of humanity. That's all I want to do. And he's like, hey, go sell software now. Go back to corporate America. Come on. There's a lot of souls to be saved. There definitely is. Yeah. There definitely is. And I am going back a different person. The old me has died. And I am a new creation in Christ Jesus. So I will be doing it a different way. And I know that there is, I know that this is where he wants me. So I'm going to do it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, I wouldn't, I wouldn't even say that is super difficult. I can't say that I'm surrendering anything. I mean, like, would I prefer to do something different? 100%.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00But it's not where he wants me.
SPEAKER_01How interesting though, because probably a year or two ago, you'd be like, of course I want to go back to work. I would have never thought of leaving my job.
SPEAKER_00Right. There was a a brief moment, especially after Frankie became a pro bodybuilder. He got his pro card, where I thought, soon I'll be able to work. Frankie can quit his nine to five job, focus on bodybuilding and maybe training or coaching people here and there, but then it'll just be me. And like, what? Sorry, Frankie. Who was that girl?
SPEAKER_01Right. But um, yeah, but how like how amazing that just your character in in that space of sales and tech sales, how even like we were talking about earlier, how it will testify. Like you're you will actually go in there being so set apart and different.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. My and other than other people.
SPEAKER_01I don't know exactly how sales works and all that, but I mean it doesn't feel I'm gonna I'm gonna be I trust in the sovereignty of the Lord.
SPEAKER_00Um and I know that he's good in everything that he does, but it is hard to it was hard for me to operate from a place of being a a daughter of the king in that environment. And it's going to take intentionality from me. I I am changed, I am so different. It's not going to be a burdensome whatsoever, but it will take intention from me every day to think am I responding in a way that represents Christ? Am I speaking in a way that represents Christ? Am I decision making in a way that represents Christ? Because it's really easy not to do those things and get ahead. This the way it is, it's like that with everything in life though. Right. You can do things the correct way, or you can do things the like slimy, easy way. Yeah. I'm thinking about the traffic yesterday.
SPEAKER_01We were in line to go to the parking garage and the light turned red. And we were like, do we go? They're like, no, that would be, or I said, Well, you know, worst case, you Yeah, you were like, just go and say you're confused. She's like, Marisol, that's a lie. I'm like, girl, you're right. You're right. Thank you for calling me higher. But yeah, it's like the little, like, you know, you it's like little compromise leads to little compromise that later later leads to a bigger compromise.
SPEAKER_00Um yes. So it's like even, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So even like in your work when you say, you know, intent you're gonna have intentionality. Am I honoring the Lord in this way, this way, this way, like, that's good because you it's like going, you know, you don't want to leave God behind in your work, yeah. Which you're not, but you know, I think that's that's amazing that you said that. And I'm sure that's gonna be really encouraging to to more people.
SPEAKER_00I I pray that it is. Yeah, I pray that yeah. Well, there'll be updates later as to how this goes after I'm in it. Everything always seems so easy before it's like the day of the day, you know.
SPEAKER_01Right, a hundred percent.
SPEAKER_00And I'm so so happy for you that God has called you to speak about him every day. Yeah. That he called you to to Bible college and now wants to further you in what you do with that. Like I I can't think of I can't think of anything greater to just have a a you know, a life dedicated. I mean So I have this really great friend who is one of the most intelligent and spirit-filled women, woman I have ever met in my life. And she is, she has just made such an impact on me in such a short amount of time. And I reference things that she has said to me over and over and over on this podcast. And uh last week I was at her home with with Kimberly, actually, and she said to me that you can find joy if your source of joy comes from the Lord, you will be able to find this joy that really doesn't make sense to people in what you're doing and what he's called you to do in like the marketplace and like the corporate world, that it will feel like you are winning souls. Yeah, it'll give you the same type of joy because you're walking in your purpose and the in way the way what he has called you to do. And so, and it all leads back to worshiping him, praising him, and evangelizing in his name. And I I will hang on to that when it's tough, when it's hard, when I'm like, why do you have me here? Why can't I just go, I don't know, like preach on the corner, write something, or just you know, even podcast full time. Like, why not? But that is not the way people need to see me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. In this season. This season. Also, by the way, I love that friend you were talking about.
SPEAKER_00I've gleaned so much from her. Different friend. Oh, different friend. Yeah, we're I'm blessed to be surrounded by very intelligent people.
SPEAKER_01Okay, I'm thinking of one in particular.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but I was like, her two.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00She's a different. You do need to meet this other one though.
SPEAKER_01She'll change your life. Okay, but um, yeah, I love, I love the woman. I feel like I was the woman at the well. I I think we've all been the woman at the well.
SPEAKER_00If I mean it's a blessing, yeah. Thank you, Jesus, that we've been the woman at the well. Right. That you met us where we were at and changed our lives. And let us all be encouraged and take from this woman, drop your jar of water, leave it where it's at, stop what you are doing and run to tell everybody, come see the man who told me everything I ever did. Every day. Yeah, talk about freedom. I mean, that is freedom. Freedom. Freedom. Freedom. I love that. So I want to leave you all with the same question that Marisol so eloquently asked us. Think about this. And I'm gonna continue to think about it because I know there's a deeper thing, and it has probably something to do with my pride, because that's my thorn. But if Jesus met you today at the well, what would he lovingly ask you to surrender to him and be honest about? What are you carrying around? What are you hanging on to that Jesus is like, just let it down. Just tell me about it, and then run away from it.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_00I mean, you're not running away from it. You're you're going back a different way. You've been changed. Let us know if you are bold enough. If the Holy Spirit convicts you. I want to know what everybody's laying down and surrendering. I love it so much. It was this was so fun. Thank you for doing this with us. Thank you.
SPEAKER_01Also, I'm uh I was cracking up thinking I'm very charismatic in the way where I'm like, right, right. So um I apologize if that no is annoying.
SPEAKER_00Get that out of here. What are you apologizing for?
SPEAKER_01Right, you're right.
SPEAKER_00Right. Don't you hear me every week, Kim's talking, and I'm like, mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Oh no, okay. Maybe I'm just overthinking. There we go. Don't overthink. I know. That's what you that's a lie. Leave it. That's where I'm leaving. Surrender it. Hey, I said it out loud. Expose it, expose it, disarm it and walk away. Covered by the blood of Jesus. Jesus didn't tell you to overthink, told you to come to him. Come on. That's right. His yoke is easy, his burden is light. Oof.
SPEAKER_01Now you're preaching.
SPEAKER_00I would love if you would pray for us and the listeners, Money Soul.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, and maybe um extended another little prayer out for Kim who's traveling and with her family that um just that the Lord blesses her time there too. Okay, let's do it.
SPEAKER_01Right. Oh, Father God, I just thank you, Lord, for this time, Lord. I just thank you, God, for who you are, God, and yes, Lord. For your character, God, that you come after us, God, because you're a good, good father. And yes, and you want us to get to know you and just continue to get to know you. You're endless, and you're we are so um, we're just I'm just so honored. We're also honored, God, that you would come after us. And Lord, we just I just pray for every single person listening to this podcast. And God, that they just be blessed. Um, God, that you just pour your spirit out on them, Jesus, that they um they they just feel um the love and kindness that you show us. And God, I just thank you, God, that for your sacrifice, Lord, for what you did on the cross, Jesus, that um, God, that while we were, you know, sinners, God, you died for us, God, for our iniquity, God. And um, I feel like that's just Lord, that's just I don't take that for granted, Lord, and um truly honored by by your sacrifice. And I don't deserve it, God, but you were so good. You were so good, Lord. And we just lift up Kimberly up right now. Um, we just pray, God, that um that as she's in Korea, God, she's able to witness to people, God, yes, that she is um there to visit her family, Lord, but that she could also evangelize and tell people about Jesus if she has an opportunity, Lord, that you, Holy Spirit, that you prompt her, um, Lord. And we just bless her time there, God. We bless her um, her travels as she comes back home, Jesus. And Lord, I just thank you for Ari, God. I thank you for her yes. I thank you, God, that um that we will be able to hear her testimony on how her job went. I'm just I'm so uh so excited to hear her testify about that, Jesus. And so um we love you, we praise you, God, we um in your mighty name we pray.
SPEAKER_00Jesus' name.
SPEAKER_01Amen. Amen. Thank you, thank you, guys.
