A Small Practice With Big Impact In Port St. Lucie: Meet Dr. Stephen Blank, DDS
Meet the Host: Dr. Stephen Blank, Your Port St. Lucie Dentist
Start with a smile and stay for the story. We sit down with Dr. Stephen Blank, a Port St. Lucie dentist who built a thriving independent practice on trust, craft, and the kind of care that treats one person at a time. From Northwestern in the early 80s to a community fixture today, he shares how a small office can stay personal while embracing big technology.
We dig into the engine behind his growth: genuine word of mouth. Patients bring their friends, family, and even walk new faces into the office, a sign that the experience matches the results. Dr. Blank explains how running on time, listening closely, and delivering consistent clinical outcomes create the kind of loyalty no ad can buy. Then we open the hood on modern dentistry. He traces the shift from rubber impressions and plaster to digital dentistry, where intraoral scans, virtual wax-ups, and same-day restorations make care faster, more accurate, and more comfortable.
You’ll also meet the person behind the practice. Dr. Blank co-owns a 1952 Cessna and flies as a private pilot, a hobby that mirrors the precision, checklists, and calm focus needed in the operatory. He talks about grandparent life, travel, and why hands-on continuing education keeps his work fresh. Most of all, he explains why he still designs smile makeovers himself, bridging clinical vision with digital design for results that look natural and function beautifully.
If you care about human connection in healthcare, or you’re curious how digital dentistry can improve your next visit, this conversation will give you a clear, friendly guide. Subscribe for more real talk on smiles, share this with someone who needs a dentist they can trust, and leave a quick review to tell us what you want to hear next.

Welcome to the PSL Dentist Podcast, where healthy smiles meet real talk. Hosted by Port St. Lucie's very own Dr. Steven Blank, the one dentist who's been making the treasure coast smile for decades. From one-visit crowns to clear aligners, Botox, and even lifting threads, yep, your dentist does that too. So sit back, open wide, not literally, please. And get ready to sink your teeth into today's episode.
SPEAKER_01:Welcome everyone. I'm Garfield Bowen, co-host slash producer, back in the studio here with Dr. Stephen Blend. Dr. Blank, how are you doing today? I'm doing wonderful. Good to see you. Excellent, excellent. Over the years, you've grown a remarkable following. However, some listeners might not be familiar with your journey. So let's take it from the top. Could you share a little background about your company and uh what you do? Sure.
SPEAKER_02:I started uh in Portsmouth, well, I finished dental school in 1982 at Northwestern and uh worked in Miami for three years, and I opened up an office in Port St. Lucie in 1985. And I've been on my own ever since. A small office, not a big corporate place, uh, where we care for patients, one patient at a time. Uh we try to run on time and treat them the way we would want to be treated. Uh, I've enjoyed being able to help people and see wonderful results over the years, and patients come back and then I'm seeing their children years later as adults now. So it's been a very good journey.
SPEAKER_01:We know marketing is the key to any business success. How how do you market your co your business?
SPEAKER_02:Right now we're counting mostly on the word of mouth from our patients that are happy and they share that with their friends, their golf buddies, uh family members. And uh often patients will bring a friend over to the office, they'll actually walk somebody over and introduce them to us, and it's a wonderful feeling when people feel comfortable enough to allow me to take care of their uh friends and family.
SPEAKER_01:I mean, I know you personally, you you spent a lot of time in my mouth. But when you're not so busy running your business, what do you like to do for fun?
SPEAKER_02:Oh, outside of dentistry, I do all sorts of things. Um I am an owner with a partner on a 1952 Cessna airplane, and that's a challenge maintaining an antique category aircraft and enjoy flying as a private pilot. Um I love seeing my grandchildren. Both of my daughters have two kids, and uh they're in the four to seven-year-old range, and uh it's just so much fun to be a grandpa now. I enjoy travel, I enjoy seeing different parts uh uh of our country. Uh I also like uh uh it's it's business, but it's I like doing the continuing ed portion. I just came back this weekend from uh two days out in California for hands-on training, and uh I I just can't get enough of that stuff. I enjoy it and I like the technology part uh that's been introduced to dentistry compared to when I graduated, where we had rubber impressions and plaster and all sorts of things like that, and now everything's gone digital.
SPEAKER_01:I I can imagine, I could imagine. Um in your own words, tell our listeners why are you doing this?
SPEAKER_02:I enjoy caring for people and seeing results. I like working with my hands, I enjoy creating things. Um I embrace the digital portion where I do the online creation, uh uh virtual wax-ups and all the things that it takes to make a smile makeover. And um some dentists like to shy away from that and they just give it to their lab and say, here, you guys do this. Uh, but I like to be a hands-on uh practitioner uh in some of the lab work like that.
SPEAKER_01:Love it, Dr. Blank. We'll catch you in the next episode where we'll tackle some of the frequently asked questions. You have a fantastic rest of the day.
SPEAKER_02:Well, thank you so much, Garfield. You have a great day.
