At 47, Kelvin Loon was used to meeting challenges head on.

As a general manager, father, and community volunteer, he had built his life around responsibility, performance, and pushing through difficulty. Then a stroke forced him to reckon with things he had never planned for: losing independence, and the fear that he might only have a few days left to live.

His diagnosis also brought back painful memories of losing his father to a stroke decades earlier, when optimism turned into loss within days. That fear lingered as Kelvin faced his own recovery, forcing him to reflect on boundaries, expectations, and the true cost of always pushing forward.

In this episode of Health Unfiltered, host Veronica Chiu speaks with Kelvin about the realities of stroke recovery, the long road of relearning the basics, and why he now believes that strength isn’t about constant breakthroughs, but knowing when to stop and listen to your body.
