So hey, what's up, y'all? Again, this is uh A D uh here with Hannah G from uh uh we um we we doing this interview. Um so uh we just gonna let her you know do her thing and then um um let you hear her music and we're gonna we're gonna keep it keep it pushing. So uh how you doing today?
SPEAKER_01Hey, I'm doing awesome. I'm feeling amazing. I'm feeling blessed. God has been doing an amazing thing.
SPEAKER_00I'm glad to hear that. Uh uh I I I just talked to you to you guys yesterday, so it was a real good interview. Uh looking forward to uh talking to DJ, DC Gutter and uh Tom Butter. So uh it's it's been appreciating uh what y'all what y'all been bringing. So uh pretty much let's let's let's just get into it. Let's just have the floor, just talk about you know uh what you're doing, uh what you got going on, what you know, pretty much what inspired you to become an artist, uh, who is who exactly inspired you, and um we're gonna start off with that.
SPEAKER_01Alright. Okay, so for those who aren't preview to me, my name is Hannah G. I'm a singer, I'm an RB singer, gospel singer, Afro-beat, Caribbean. I like to call myself outside of box because you can't really box me into one genre, but I'm passionate about music. Um for me, my music journey started at a very young age. I grew up singing in the choir at church. Um, music was always around me. My mom could sing, my sister could sing, my father could sing. You know, we were very, I grew up around people that was always musically inclined. And so that passion kind of, you know, was embedded into me at a very young age. So I've always loved music. Um, as far as my music career though, that started my official recording music career started only about, I think that has to be three years ago. So while, although I had always been singing, I've always been writing music, I've only started recording officially three years ago. And when I tell you, I am blown away at the progress that God has already brought to my life at such a very early stage in my career. So I'm very passionate about it. I love it, and I believe with all my heart that that's my purpose in this curve.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I like that. Uh me and me and my um, since we have your your songs on rotational on me and my uh lady station in the art and on push it radio, uh, she really loves uh the songs that she's heard from you. And she was like, Yeah, uh, she can't wait for you to like do a show because she said she's front rope. And I was like, yeah, I said she likes the vibe, the flow that you have. Um so uh every time she hears your D. Oh, I'm gonna see that. So she she she loves to your wife. Yeah, so she she loves what you're doing. So uh so yeah, we just gonna keep keep pushing uh your music. Um and whenever you you decide you know to come up with some some new stuff, you know, you know, let me know. You know, we can come back and you know and and and and let it be heard.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. Oh, that blessed me. Oh, yeah, we I always love when I mean of course you love your own music, but it's always appreciated when somebody can share that with you.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So I really appreciate that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so we we appreciate you. We appreciate real business music for what y'all are doing. Um, so I just want to know when when did you r uh realize that music was something you wanted to pursue, seriously?
SPEAKER_01I mean, this might sound cliche, but really all my life, I always had an ear for music. Of course, like I said, growing up in church, singing in the choir, I always loved music. As far as me creating on my own, though, I think that interest began to spark as I got closer to God. I know I've shared I shared that earlier with you, but as I got closer to God, I my passion for music started shifting more into purpose instead of just being something that I like to do every Sunday, something I just love doing, like a hobby. It started shifting to a more meaningful purpose. Like this is something that the Lord wants to use me in this earth for. This is something that I will have the opportunity to impact a lot of people with. So I started taking it more seriously as I got closer to him and he started showing me when he started pulling out certain gifts from me that I didn't even, I wasn't aware was there to begin with. Right. Like for me growing up in church, I never used to rap, you know. And now if you listen to some of my songs, especially on Dream and Vision, my my mixtape that's out, you hear a little bit of rapping, you hear a little bit of neo-soul gospel, you hear RB, you know, and because that we serve, because I serve such a guy that you can't put in a box, I believe that started showing up, showing up in my music, you know, and I branched out in ways that truly bless me. I've already won awards for this, best international artist of the year, and just many other things that have been happening that's constantly assuring me that this is my calling.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01You know, and it's ever growing, I'm ever learning, and I'm excited for where God is taking me and what's to come.
SPEAKER_00I'm excited for you guys as well. Uh, I want to know about because you um, because it's even uh you guys on your label, y'all talk about your relationship with God. Uh so I just want to like um get into depth of like what does that relationship mean to you uh through everything that you do?
SPEAKER_01Oh it's it's really in like you just said, that last statement you said is in everything we do. So there's nothing that I do in my creative process that is outside of God. Right. I get the melody from him, and it could be random. I can never put him in a box. It's like if just like how as an artist, I don't expect people to put me in a specific lane.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01It could be at any given time. I'll hear a melody, and then I know, okay, it's time. And he'll give me the lyrics. And what's so beautiful about it is that even if I'm going through a very personal, like a struggle, say I'm struggling in a certain area in my life, those are the moments that creativity pulls out of me more, where it's more authentic. I don't ever want to become an artist that creates just for what people may like. Right. You know, I always want it to be real. So a lot of my um, I believe that my creation process has developed into more of an authentic feel. Right. Because I stopped creating stuff that kind of feels like it sounds good to me, and it's more so, now I'm sharing my testimony, I'm sharing my life. You know, I want somebody that's listening to be able to be impacted and see themselves in what I'm saying. And so that's how it goes. That's how ministry goes. Right. That's how it flows. Because you can't really minister to somebody if they can't relate to you. And I think that's very important. Right. Because you could all you could have a great message, like a really awesome message, but if they feel like you don't get them, it's gonna be it, it might be a pin and myth.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So that's a that's like certain preachers. They go out and the preachers say, repent, repent, repent. And these people don't know how to repent, they don't know what you're talking about. You know what I'm saying? So I believe that in my creative process, the Lord has definitely helped me become more real. You know what I'm saying? It's not overly religious, right? Because if you listen to my songs, you're not gonna hear a bunch of X4 16. Yeah, but it's not real like that. Right. It's real life because God is looking for real impact. People are really hurting, yeah. People are really struggling. People are life is life then. So I believe that that's what ties into it being more purposeful rather than me chasing fame or popularity or a certain sound that's trending. It's deeper than that for me. And that's all that's all because of him. That's all because of God.
SPEAKER_00I I love that. Um I I I live by the same principles as well, because uh I'm a I'm a drummer, so um, you know, going through trials and tribulations, uh, I wasn't supposed to, you know, be here, uh, but you know, God made a way. Uh so you know, uh, I'm not supposed to be walking, whatever.
unknownSo like people ask me all the time, what why do you play so hard?
SPEAKER_00And I'm like, because I wasn't supposed to be, I wasn't supposed to have hand eye coronation. Um and I was supposed to be uh you know pretty much investable, but you know, he made a way, so like if I'm able to give back, because I'm one of those type of people, if I can't give him a hundred percent, then I don't want to I don't want to shortchange him and give him half. Because he didn't give me half when he he did stuff for me. He he does he does a hundred percent. So uh I I I like that and I like you know I really like what y'all are doing out here in the community because it's you know um a lot of people are not uh people just worry about the music part, but they don't worry about giving back to the community. So uh just want to talk to about that as well. Like uh when y'all get back to the community, um what what feeling do y'all, you know, what do y'all feel when y'all y'all get back? Or what is the uh the the main goal that y'all trying to accomplish?
SPEAKER_01Um for one, that's always a blessing because in order to give, you have to realize that you've been blessed.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_01You know, regardless of what you might be going through, what struggles you have. The first thing I look at is wow, I'm able to give because I've been given to freely. So there's no struggle concerning that. I don't I know what it's like. I'm I'm not sure if I shared this with you before, but I for one know what it's like to not have much. You know, uh when I just came to this country, I was homeless for a while, for a little while, and I know what it's like to feel helpless and hopeless, and really hoping and praying that somebody sees you. Not really pity you, but somebody sees you in a way that they care and they're really looking out for your best interest. So I see people in a less fortunate um situation differently because I've experienced it myself.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01You know, I know what it's like to have a lot and I know what it's like to have nothing. When I say nothing, I'm not merely talking about possessions, I'm talking about nobody to turn to. I'm talking about being in a place where you really, it's really risky even reaching out for help because you don't know these people. You know what I'm saying? So I know how scary that can be. So whenever the Lord blesses me, both my husband and I, to be able to do so, we are 100% him. You know, and when we have it to give, it's it's easy, it flows. Especially when we're following the leadership of the Holy Spirit, because he's gonna show you who to bless. Right, you know, and he's gonna lead you to where it will be more impactful. So that's that's all that's absolutely a blessing. When I tell you, I love to do it because I've experienced what it's like for people to help you physically, like be able to give to you, and then their attitude towards you wasn't right. Yeah, you know, or they look down on you for where you you're you're positioned at the moment. So whenever there's an opportunity to show Christ, to be Christ to somebody, I'm all in. We all in. And that's what we do with even the songs.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because sometimes having clothes and having food don't heal the soul.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You know what I'm saying? But the Lord has been able to use us to heal and touch the soul. The places that you probably won't see physically that's wrong. Right. Music can do that, music can heal. I really believe that music is such a major part of ministry, it's bigger than people really see. You know what I'm saying? Because I've heard I've been in moments of my life when I heard a certain song or sound, and it completely changed my mind from being in a dark place.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You know what I'm saying? So I know the impact that God has God is capable of using me to. So that's that's that goes for everything. That's music, that's being able to give back physically, even through prayer, whatever is needed. That that's something that we are very passionate about.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I love that.
SPEAKER_01Very passionate about.
SPEAKER_00I love that. Um I like what I like I said again, I like what you you guys are doing. Um just pretty much like what are you what is uh mainly your your influences, like who influenced you to get into the game, uh, who's who's been like your major influences even now creating and you know, making music and you know, doing all the other uh things that you do?
SPEAKER_01Um, that's a good question. Um throughout the years, I could say that it's definitely shifted. Um when I was, you know, growing up singing in church and everything, my inspiration mostly came for how to better my gift, more so than writing and creating on my own. So singers like Kier Shear would definitely inspire me. Like, I want to be able to sing with that level of anointing. I want to be able to reach those notes, you know? And for me, I would say she she heavily influenced, you know, the way my style, especially in gospel. But as far as writing and becoming my own artist, definitely Rihanna. No, I know that's like two, that's like day and night, because Yara Shirt is a gospel singer and Rihanna is a pop, you know, never wrong with it. But listen, when I tell you, because because Rihanna, you know, everyone knows she's from the Caribbean, she's from Barbados, and where I'm from is not too far from Barbados. Like I shared with you, you can see Barbados from certain parts of where I live at, right? Where I'm from. So to see her supersede and succeed that much coming from a small place, that was so relatable for me. And I was like, you know what? If she can do that, I'm not gonna put a limitation on what God can do with me. You know what I'm saying? So I can say definitely, she has been somebody that I'm not gonna say I love all of her messages and her music and everything, but as an artist, as a businesswoman, she definitely heavily inspired me. Like she it's almost like seeing what happened with her kind of removed that cap as and that limitation. Right. You know what I'm saying? Because when you come from a very small place, like a very small island, 18 miles long and 11 miles wide, really small, you don't expect to see people make it out and become superstars worldwide like that.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So I'll say Rihanna definitely, she's that girl. All the Caribbean girlies playing Rihanna, because she's that girl.
SPEAKER_00Hey, yo, shout out to the Caribbean, the Caribbean ladies doing their thing. So what y'all definitely are. Uh my next my next thing it would be uh what what sets you apart? Uh I'm not gonna even say D and V. I'm gonna just say locally, nationally, international, uh, what sets what makes what makes Hannah G different than a lot of these other uh artists that's out here?
SPEAKER_01Well, for me, I think that's easy. I don't think no one person is the same. Right. Right? Ever. But um for me, it's me being me. Me being you. Because and I say that because it's easy for you to kind of put other artists in similar boxes because a lot of them aren't being themselves, right? Especially creativity, while um in their creativity, because a lot of artists have chosen to chase trends and try to get the fast wrap up. So if they see something pop in, they'll kind of change their style to that. You know what I'm saying? Right. But for me, I'm authentically me. Like I'm from the Caribbean, you're gonna hear the Caribbean in my music, you're gonna hear my story. My story is like no other story.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01Right? You're gonna hear, you're gonna, you're gonna feel my personality come out in my music. It's nobody like me. And that's not in a cocky way, it's just realizing that God did not make no one person the same.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01Even if there may be similarity, God didn't make nobody the same. So you're not gonna hear, you might hear other Caribbean artists, but you're not gonna hear hat and cheek. You know what I'm saying? And that's what I truly believe. Just like Tyla. You know, I've heard people compare um my song Watchover to her sound.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01I don't know if you you know what I'm talking about, but she has her sound. I don't think it's nobody like Tyla.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01You know what I'm saying? There are a lot of Afrobeat and piano artists, but there's nobody like her though.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01The same way it's like, no, you won't know it's Hannah G. And most importantly, the Holy Spirit. Just being led by God in everything I do, the way I write, the melodies that He gives me, I believe it's truly unique. I really strongly believe that. And my passion is not this, it's not gonna be from the same place as other people. It's just not because I've been through things in my life. When you look at me, you won't believe the certain things that I've been through. So my passion comes from a whole different place, it comes from a deeper place, you know? And yeah, that sets me apart. Just just in me being me, just in you being you, that sets you apart. Right. You know what I'm saying? Because we we don't have time to try to be carbon copies of other people.
SPEAKER_06I agree.
SPEAKER_01Regardless of how successful they are. You know what I'm saying? When you be, I believe that when you truly be yourself, you could flourish in ways that others that are you know settling for being copies will never be. You know what I'm saying? I truly believe that.
SPEAKER_00I agree with I agree with you. Uh because uh every everybody, you know, is is I I sometimes just wish people would just be original and just regardless of the who's gonna like it, who's not, uh like I tell artists, uh if you if you put out music and you don't feel it, then don't put it out. But if you feel it, then like push it and let people know, hey, this is this is what you bring. Because like, you know, uh even doing radio and stuff, you know, sometimes you send people music and people might be like, I might not like it, you might not like it, but ten thousand other people might but like will they ever remember that? Probably not. Uh so like the to hear like you uh in the D bringing something different that I haven't even heard is like I was like, okay, I was like, yeah, we got we got something. And every uh pretty much every day when I hear the music, I'm like, okay, uh in rotation, I'm like, okay, people are are getting getting hit and taken over to say, okay, this is something that we need to get put in rotation and let people let people hear and recognize hey we got something we got something real serious going on. So you know, I just want to talk about like your sound and like where does the you know the sound and style come from? Because it's like you know, but everybody is you know Doing the Google thing, or everybody's trying to do the the cover route, but like you're doing something that's you know different, so like explain your sound.
SPEAKER_01So like I shared with you, I'm from the Caribbean, right? So the sound there is completely different from what you hear mainstream, like especially in this area, right? So in my song Watchover, for instance, you definitely can hear my culture coming through. Of course, the Afro-beat style is also mixed into the Caribbean culture because we get a lot of our culture from the African culture. So you could definitely hear that I'm not trying to succumb to the sound that I hear in this area that's trending. I I want to keep it authentically me. Right. Because like you said, it it it doesn't really hit the same if you make music that you don't even like.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01You know what I'm saying? So my sound is heavily influenced from where I'm from, but it's also influenced to where God has taken me.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01So that's the part where I was sharing with you. I don't want to box myself in either. Because there are certain songs that are about to be dropped that it's kind of outside of my own comfort zone, but as I let God lead me, I'm starting to love it. You know what I'm saying? I'm starting to expand in a way that I've never been before. So my sound is really, like I told you, I can't even tell you that it's from one specific place because it's all led by wherever God takes me. Right. You know what I'm saying? I'm open. I'm not gonna box my own self and I'm open to being creative and letting God use me in any way he wants to.
SPEAKER_00Like that. So with with you with you doing creating your own sound and your own music, uh, what have been some of the challenges? Uh some of the challenges and the um challenges and and the the outcomes that you you experience by being an independent artist?
SPEAKER_01That's a good question. I think I think most independent artists can relate to this, but not immediately seeing the support that you want to, I think that could be tough.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Especially when you you're aware that you really have goals, like you have something good. Right? But the people that you may expect to immediately jump on board and support you and share, you know, is that's not always the case.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01So that could sometimes be discouraging, but what what I've learned and what God has is continually showing me is that my focus isn't necessarily for people to support me.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01My focus should be on walking in my purpose and in my calling, because if I'm following him, the right people are gonna be drawn eventually. You know what I'm saying? So if I focus on them, it might shift my focus from doing what I'm supposed to be doing.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01You know what I'm saying? So the right people will come at the right time. I think that's one of the biggest the biggest facts and truth that you need to digest when it comes to walking in your purpose. It's not gonna be easy, it's not gonna start off like how you see other people who have been doing it for more years, maybe. You know, I think comparison is a killer for one. Comparison for sure can be a discouraging killer. You know what I'm saying? So learning how to not compare with other people's results and truly walk and follow what God has given you, it will draw the right people. Regardless of who's not supporting now, if you keep walking that walk, the right people are gonna follow behind you.
SPEAKER_00So so since she she talked, I know we talked last time, um, about you being uh married in in in the industry and and you both are doing exceptional things, uh, how has that helped you with making you know some some dope music?
SPEAKER_01Oh to be honest, I think I mean I know that God would have found some way to still work through me, but I'm so grateful for what he joined me to. Because we work so well together. When I tell you only God can do something like that, I really mean that. I mean our purpose, our our drive to walk in our purpose together has definitely lifted the burden that I believe would have been on me had I been trying to navigate it alone. You know what I'm saying? There are things that he taught me and experiences that he had before I could have had it for myself that I'm benefiting from because I'm connected to him, and vice versa, you know? I think that it's easier to walk, just like the Bible says, two are better than one, you know what I'm saying? But what's even better is when the person that you're walking with is going in the same direction, you know? That's way better. And I think it helps take off that feeling of, oh, this is work, work, work. It doesn't feel like that when you're working with somebody that has the same passion as you. It actually feels like a blessing. It feels sometimes it's fun. You know what I'm saying? It doesn't feel burdensome, and I think that's that's definitely a blessing from God. That's a blessing.
SPEAKER_00So um what uh what advice would you give uh any artists? Uh like let's say if you had a an indie sound or something he was doing. Uh so what would you give uh advice that any artist that's trying to step out on their own, make your own music, uh not to get discouraged that people don't support them off the break.
SPEAKER_01Oh, well, exactly what you just said too. Don't okay, the number one thing I'll I'll say to them is don't try to don't try to please everybody. Okay? You have to know that this is who, this is what you're called to, for one. Because if you're just trying anything and you you just trying to get to the bag, I think that could be that could be a slip up easily.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because if you don't see something deeper than just get into a bag and get into the support and the popularity, then you can easily fall off when it doesn't happen instantly.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01You know what I'm saying? So the first thing that you want to do is be rooted in purpose. And if you don't know God, I will I would definitely advise for you to get to know him because once you get to know him, you'll get to know who you are even more. And then you'll be able to walk in your purpose. Right. So for any indie artists out there, if you feel like you know that your drive is more so to get to the bag, I think it's uh now is a good time to re-evaluate your your motive, because that can be the motive. Because then you if that's the real motive, then you'll be able to do anything.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01And that would that wouldn't that wouldn't be good for you.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01But if you're rooted and you know what, this is my purpose. This is what I've been called to. I want to impact people through this music, then I'll say to you, don't focus on who's not supporting you. Matter of fact, I want you to hone in on who is supporting you. You know, and if there is nobody that's there for you right now and that you're not getting the the feedback and the support that you really want, stand ten toes down and keep producing, keep creating, keep doing what you're called to do because it will happen. If it's for you, it will happen if you keep going in the direction that God has called you to. There's there's no ifs, ands, or buts. Keep going. Don't look for anybody to clap you, clap at you every step of the way because sometimes that won't happen. Sometimes people only support you and they see that it's popular to do so. You know what I'm saying? So keep going, keep your eyes focused on the prize, you know, because it could be easily distracting to constantly be looking. Oh, I thought they would have been supporting me by now. Oh, huh? That's supposed to be my friend. You know, that could be so discouraging. You know what I'm saying? Don't keep your eyes focused on that. People have their reasons for not supporting on getting behind you or whatever. That's not your business.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Your focus is stepping into what God called you to and keep going at it. Keep going at it.
SPEAKER_00Alright, I like that. I like that, I like that. That good message. So if y'all out there, when y'all hear this this uh recording, uh, take those, take those nuggets and you know, follow and and you know, we all have gone through the highs and lows, so hey, you you're not the only one, you're not alone. So uh follow the the the olden rules, then you be straight. Um so what we're gonna do is uh pretty much I want the the fans to know uh pretty much you uh want you to tell your fans something that they don't know about you. Um fact about you.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Let me see. Well, you know what? There are a lot of things that my supporters, I don't call them fans because I don't know, I just have a I don't understand the connotations that come with that word necessarily, but I say supporters.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01The people that support me, I guess most of them don't know. I'm trying to think. You have to give me a moment to think.
SPEAKER_00No problem.
SPEAKER_01It's a lot, but I'm trying to make sure that I choose the right thing that I want to share. You know? Um a lot of them may not be aware that I'm also a painter. Okay. You know, I paint. That's that's probably my very right understanding painting. Like if I had an alternative, you know, option, I would be a painter full time.
SPEAKER_06All right.
SPEAKER_01I love to paint and I'm very good at it. Um, pretty soon actually I would be opening my online um store for my artwork. So that's something that I'm really passionate about. So you could look forward to that.
SPEAKER_00Alright, shout out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.

SPEAKER_01Um for one, thank you for having me. Um I really appreciate what you're doing because a lot of people they tend to say that there are a lot of platforms for the DMV artists in the artist to really thrive and be exposed on. But I really appreciate what you're doing. I want to encourage you to keep doing what you're doing and don't get discouraged by what you're not seeing now. Because as you continue to walk and grow, the right people will be drawn to you. So I want to shout, shout out to you for what you're doing. And I want to encourage any other indie artists out there that may be struggling with the discouragement of not having the support that you want right now, just keep going. Keep going. And just shout out to Pusha Independent Radio, man. Shout out. Um, I really think it's important that a lot more people support and push the indie artist instead of complaining that there aren't, you know, support, you know what I'm saying? I think it takes a lot of guts to put yourself out there like that. So I really appreciate what you're doing. Keep going, keep doing what God called you to do. And I I think it's gonna I think it's gonna be beyond what you expected.
SPEAKER_00I appreciate it. Thank you.
