So that's what I do in my everyday I love making things happen for my friends. They call me explain you to do this I'm gonna make it happen. So I'm gonna I'm gonna fix her and I'm gonna make it happen type of woman and that's what makes me every woman make it happen ash good evening No y'all my name is Ash Queen Ash Givens I prefer Ash that is just what it is people give me the side mouth when I say that but that is my preference thank you very much but my parents did name me Ash Lee um I'm actually named after a white man uh from Gone with the Wind seriously I did say a white man. My mother's favorite movie is Gone with the Wind um so if y'all ever seen it I'm just saying it was made like the 1930s real wild junk like probably 10 hours long but it's very good very scandalous. But either way I was named after Ashley Wilkes um but I'm a proud black woman yes um and I come from yes um come from a proud black family um I am part Haitian so that should give you a little bit of information on really how deep I can go um I am a mother of three daughters um they are amazing yes I was getting to that too um but first and foremost of course I'm a wife to my husband um we've been together 20 years been married going on 12 actually on this like in a couple weeks or the 28th um so our wedding anniversary is coming up um I am I am a baker awesome I'm a baker um I'm an artist um I'm a part-time writer um I like to sing on the side a little bit um I am a real and I think everybody
SPEAKER_08I love boldness. Um I'm sisterhood all day long. All day, every day.
SPEAKER_11Every day.
SPEAKER_08Yes, I don't have no sisters. The only girl and the oldest girl. Um I love God. Yes, she does. And um, I'm a stylist, I have a boutique, I have a nonprofit organization, I'm the CEO, um, I'm a three-time author. Matter of fact, my book signing is um this this weekend coming up in Atlanta, Georgia. Yes. Um, and I also make the um health waters for your health.
SPEAKER_06And it's her jacket right now.
SPEAKER_08Yes.
SPEAKER_06And I design my own um blazers. Yeah, I bet read with it on the back. Somebody read with it on the back.
SPEAKER_11I would like both ways before you cross me. Because I'm straight.
SPEAKER_10Yes. You better look both ways.
SPEAKER_13Look both ways before you cross it. I'm kind of an entrepreneur. Um I wear many hats. And on and I'm not no gatekeeper.
SPEAKER_08And I want to see everybody wearing. You know, not saying that because everybody wants to see me wearing, but I still want see everybody wearing. And I love my enemies. They make they motivate me even more.
SPEAKER_02That's right.
SPEAKER_08And one thing for sure, and two things for certain that it's about love. When you speak with speak to somebody in love, things that just, you know, just paying out smooth. And um, what else? I love my mom. She's 78. Shout out um sugar.
SPEAKER_05She's 78. Yes, Miss Sugar.
SPEAKER_11She be in the go-go.
SPEAKER_05With us.
SPEAKER_11That's right. She be with us in the go-go. Do you hear me? Yeah, honey.
SPEAKER_08Shout out to my um my grandday, but um, I called her superstar because nerd, she's been a superstar since she was born. She's old, she's wrapped, she got her own um nerd. She just turned 14 on the day of my birthday. Marcy Lane.
SPEAKER_06Yes, thank you.
SPEAKER_08And I love my brothers, because we women as sisters, we have to uplift our brothers because when they go on the street, they get it hard. So, you know, I love on my brothers, you know, and I have a lot of. Kiss him. Yes, and you know, that's just it. That's what makes me a woman, make me um what is everyone?
SPEAKER_11Every woman. Every woman. I will say that. And it's amazing to be a woman and have to wear so many hats. Yes. And to show up not only for others, but for yourselves each day. So I am grateful that I got to know a little bit more about you. Thank you. Yes. I did forget one thing. I did forget one thing. I got her around my neck, y'all. It's National Woman's mind. Okay. So y'all can't see her, but the people in here can see her. This is my grandmother. Nan Hawkins. Okay. Why am I speaking about my grandmother? Because everybody has been down to the National Harbor at least one time. And if you've been down there, then you've seen her name, and you might not have noticed you've seen her name, but you've seen her name. Exactly. Um, when you're leaving the harbor, you can see it standing out of the water. It says Nan Hawkins Waterway, right as you're going past the little stonehenge thing.
SPEAKER_02That's my grandmother.
SPEAKER_11The reason why her name is there is because she was a very, very, very, very, very prominent influence behind the harbor. Um, she was the brainchild behind the National Harbor. Um, and really, if it was not for her going to um Peterson New Oakland at that time, and Peterson Company still does own that area. They were very close. And she told them she was like, get a harbor down here. You did what he did. What's going on? So I want to recognize that I come from greatness, period point blank. Period point blank. And that's just that. But I had to put that out there because you did say learning stuff, and I was sitting up here talking, I was like, listen in the block, and I was like, crap, I forgot to mention that stuff. Let me just go ahead and mention that. Thanks for sharing that with that.
SPEAKER_07Yes, I will. So every time we walk to the harbor, we're gonna think about Queen.
SPEAKER_11We're gonna get a kiss on that. But I really want y'all to just remember how strong women are. Yes. Um we are bringers of life, we are nurturers, we are mothers. Even if you're not asked by blood, you s you're we're still your mothers, bro. Like in some type of way, shape, or form. You're your mother.
SPEAKER_13You know what I'm saying? So I had to make sure. I had to make sure I'm your mother, I'm your mother.
SPEAKER_08Excuse me, but just kind of posing um on my devotional um words in the morning. I'll be like, it's the mother. Yeah. I have like a different head on from my heel. Do that again. This this is what I do.
SPEAKER_13I'll be like, oh boom. Uh-oh.
SPEAKER_10It's the mother. When they sit me on the street, it's the mother.
SPEAKER_08Like Monday, I I do Tuesday, uh, Thursday, Tuesday, trust and Tuesday, trust all everything. Wednesday, wise Wednesday, stay woke, stay ready. When you're blasting Thursday, thankful Thursday.
SPEAKER_00Yes. All right. Uh I I like what y'all are doing, um, especially as women. Um, y'all y'all do, like you said, wear a lot of hats. Um, but I just want to know about like the leadership in the community uh as a sisterhood. You know, how do you you guys work? Because sometimes uh women all don't work together.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But for y'all to come in here is is a blessing to see that y'all are on the same page.
SPEAKER_11See, to me, the way I look at it, you get what I'm saying. Um, starting on the Queen of Go-Go movement, I just put it out there. And the key thing to me with dealing with women, people say women can't get along, but that's not true to me. I just really think that's a stereotype.
SPEAKER_07Um you met us, and it was me and Ash. It was Kim and Sweet T, right? Kim and Sweetie T, they both decide Kim moved to Atlanta. Uh-huh. Sweetie T is on her spiritual journey. She's doing so much for the children in Africa. She has 10 tribes. They've been, she's a queen there.
SPEAKER_11She's putting, we, when we all collectively, Vega, all of us, we got extra clothes, we got extra whatever, we give it to her to give to the children in Africa, right? But it's like when we in when we interviewed Dr. Lisa and Black Diamond, it was like something lingering. It was like we weren't supposed to let them go. You understand what I'm saying? We weren't supposed to let them go. So one day we she had a party in her backyard. She always has parties. And we decided collectively together, we was like, we can't let them go.
SPEAKER_07They gotta be a part of us. You know what I'm saying? When it fits, it fits. I'm a strong believer that the universe aligns.
SPEAKER_11You shouldn't try to force friendship. We aligned. And when we aligned, we cried that day. They accepted our offer. And it was like, we want y'all to be a part of us. And we all became one.
SPEAKER_07Right? Every woman that has come after that has done nothing but aligned with us.
SPEAKER_11Now, we don't have too many. Look at Charlena, she aligned. She aligns with us. Sister Renee aligns with us. Sister Stephanie, everybody is a part, it's an alignment. I can't tell you how to be nobody's friend, right? But if you're serious about, I'm a big sister.
SPEAKER_07I got three little sisters. It's six of us. It's really 22 of us. Um, my daddy was a rogue and stomach, you know what I'm saying? Put it everywhere, you know what I'm talking about. But at the end of the day, all my siblings know that I'm the oldest girl. And any of them can call me because I'm cool like that, right? Because I don't force our line.
SPEAKER_11And you have to think about it that way. And I think that's why what we got going on with Taz Podcast, it works for us because we don't force it in a line.
SPEAKER_06That's a good point. Very good point. Very good point. Yeah. Alignment.
SPEAKER_11I think I mean, it's just, I mean, really, that's just what it is for us. I mean, that's how it was when I met Ash. I met her on my birthday, June 17th. Party at the parking Calvert.
SPEAKER_07It was playground. And my band was playing.
SPEAKER_11But I had, how many vendors did I have out there? I probably had like 25 vendors out there.
SPEAKER_04I think something.
SPEAKER_11I had vendors all around. But out of all the vendors, it was something about her that could.
SPEAKER_07But it wasn't only her, Tamika.
SPEAKER_11Tamika, um, shout out to Tamika, Chef, she does sauces. She became my friend too. I met so many women. And I get excited about things like that. I met the girl with the pineapple. So now when we have parties, I call these women. Hey girl. I got a visiting job for you. You coming. Yes, slice, I'm coming. So I'm still friends with all these women because guess what? We align with each other. You can't force it. Everybody is not worthy of your universe. And when you realize that everybody's not worthy, just because she's a woman don't mean she's supposed to be a part of you. Her mindset may not be ready for your universe.
SPEAKER_07You got to align yourself. And guess what? It's just gonna happen. It just happens.
SPEAKER_11There it is. That's the message. I mean, I do agree. I really do agree.
SPEAKER_06I agree.
SPEAKER_11So with the alignment, and since we're here and we're talking, um, sisterhood, because there are different kinds. And those of us that have sisters have a different type of understanding of sisterhood, but that doesn't mean it's the only sisterhood that you know. So, what does sisterhood mean to you and what does that look like? I mean, collectively as a whole, because you all are a sisterhood, but individually, what do you bring to the table sometimes when it comes to sisters and sisters?
SPEAKER_13Yeah. I was about to say, if you want to go first, mother go. Okay. You say, Mama, give her mom. It's the mother from the booty back now.
SPEAKER_08I'ma say, I'ma say uplifting the sister when she's done. Just being there with her and not want to talk about her. Oh, you know, so you know how women could be catty? Yes. And just being there and helping her through it. Praying with her, crying with her, it's gonna be alright. That sisterhood that we ain't gotta talk every day.
SPEAKER_13When I make that phone call and I need you, my sister gonna come, gonna be have my tissues, because this is this I this right here.
SPEAKER_06That's us y'all.
SPEAKER_11You know, when it comes when it comes to being there, people need people that's gonna be there. So yes.
SPEAKER_08Yes, that's what I'm talking about. Because at the end of the day, like we need each other in every way. And we all, that's what we fall down. But it's about us getting up and our sister, like, it's gonna be all home. I got you, sis. That's right. You know, because it's it it's it's rough our head sometimes because you think that, you know, you your sister is your sister, you know. And then, you know, secrets you might have shared with her, she might get mad at you. I don't care. You still my sister.
SPEAKER_04Yes, right.
SPEAKER_08Because we're gonna go through trials and tribulations, we're gonna be in some type of funky mood. Right. At the end of the day, it's my heart, you know, my heart. And it's okay, you could check me.
SPEAKER_02Right. Yes.
SPEAKER_13With love, you know what I'm saying? Check me.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_13Because I'm not perfect, and I fall down, I might say something wrong, I might what you just say? That one, that ain't you. You alright? Because I could be having a day, it might look like I'm happy, I might be at a go-go, might be at a party. But that don't mean that I'm alright. Because everybody, I don't want everybody to know that I'm that I'm not alright. Because some people take that in one way. I want my sister, you know, like sis. I don't care. I need you. I need you to come with me. Please come outside, come outside with me. Right. Real black? Damn, yeah. I am on my way. Because I'm gonna be on my way. That's sisterhood, you know?
SPEAKER_11That's facts. And your sister should be able to. What I love about them, they if I'm wrong, they check me. You get what I'm saying? You know, spice that wasn't right. This one right here, spice. She's gonna call me and tell me, and you know that wasn't right, Spice. And we're gonna have this conversation. She does the same.
SPEAKER_03I don't feel that kids are all the sisters. That's how you done. That's how you daddy.
SPEAKER_05But like I was saying, you know.
SPEAKER_12Oh my goodness, I'll do take me to the goal and y'all. That's how I'm gonna.
SPEAKER_11But like I was saying, if you're not able to check each other, you get what I'm saying? It don't work.
SPEAKER_07Because guess what? It is what she's gonna do, she's gonna get mad. And then she's gonna go run to somebody and talk about you like a dog, right? And then she's gonna be scared to post anything about you.
SPEAKER_11Because if she posts anything about you, she's looking like a girl to whoever she talks about you to, right? We don't have those issues.
SPEAKER_07Because again, I'm gonna go back to what I said earlier. We're aligned.
SPEAKER_11That's right. We are aligned with each other. Look, the word to the day is alignment. If you are not aligned with your people, period, in your universe, it doesn't work. You hear me? And we are, you know, sometimes feel like I was gonna go on a side road with this one right here, because I was like, this one right here.
SPEAKER_12You know what I'm saying? But she aligned herself back in.
SPEAKER_03Oh, that's what I said. Yes, she was.
SPEAKER_07I didn't mind. You doing your thing?
SPEAKER_11You still doing your mom? Yeah, my mama. You turn it into stuff. What happened?
SPEAKER_05It's okay. But you allowed yourself back.
SPEAKER_12You know, I'm so glad to be in the grace of the comment about what you talking about, like what you talking about.
SPEAKER_10People see buddy see yourself.
SPEAKER_07Oh, people see the buddy see yourself. We love this.
SPEAKER_13You know, but that's all to show that guess what? That we know your problem. Yes.
SPEAKER_11And we know that it's gonna be alright. We can give you time. We still give you time. Let's take this thing for the mama domain.
SPEAKER_10This is the front with the back kid.
SPEAKER_03This is I already know.
SPEAKER_11Me and Lisa, like I already, but Lisa will Lisa will say it, bruh. Hey, you know what? I that is that is a trait that I love about her. I can't even, I can't even front. To to to have to in in in some instances to not hold your tongue is great. I'm just, I'm just, I'm just being for real. To not hold your tongue is great. But like for me, like, the thing for me is when I'm out, I have a tendency, and my kids, even my best friend, is so funny. Like, you speak to everybody. I'm like, why not? You know what I'm saying? Like, if I literally see a chick and I'd be like, dang, her outfit look bomb. I ain't gonna be like, oh, this bitch thinks she's cute and such. Right. Nah, girl, your outfit looks bomb. Look, your haircut looks fresh. I love that. I love the color of your hair. That drink looks beautiful. Like, keep rocking it. Like, I like to give encouraging words. I'm one of these types of people that is positive. I like to be a positive person. Um, I'm not gonna say it's all peaches and cream all the time, because that's a lie. Like, that's not true. But I like to be a positive person. I like to give that to other people. When I start feeling negative, you'll notice I start feeling negative because I start to recluse. And I'll go back here. Like Homer Simpson in the bushes. Yes. That'd be me. But, and some people don't understand that. Some people are like, well, but I'm for that for me, it's kind of like protection. Not protection just for me, but protection is you as well. I don't want to be in a bad state of frame of mind where I say or do something to you that's messed up because my energy's old. I don't want to do that. You know what I mean? So to protect everybody, I'm gonna say you know what I mean? And people that know me, people that understand me, people that love me know exactly what's going on. And it's not like, you know, they're feeling some type of way about it. It's not like it's like, nah, but I definitely like to protect the energy that I give out because energy is very, what's the word? I'm contagious. Energy is very contagious, and I don't want to give out the badge. I I I don't like it. And I don't like to be in spaces where I'm feeling bad energy either.
SPEAKER_12Right.
SPEAKER_13And it's so funny that you say that because I get this um for my daughters, my beautiful daughters. Mom, you you always you be with the odds. Well, you, you ain't just I say, guess what? I guess I am who I am. I forgive. I don't care because God blessed me.
SPEAKER_08I don't want to, I don't want to block my blessing. Because guess what? Who am I to judge you? Okay, you might have done something to hurt me all right, and I went through I went through the motion, right? Time healed. But at the same time, God forgive us every second, every hour, every so who am I? Why I can't forgive? I might not mess with you, but I'm gonna still show you some love when I see you, hey? That's right. They keep it moving, right? Not even some even some some of my old sisters. You talking to her now?
SPEAKER_12She ranked them away to give us a few.
SPEAKER_11Let it go. If I have, you can.
SPEAKER_13You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_11I said let it go.
SPEAKER_13She said. And not even that. Like, on top of that, like, bruh, I'm not about to.
SPEAKER_11Again, energy. I'm not about to give you the same. Like, okay, you might have done something, but I might be over it. I'm not tripping off of it. Or it could be a situation where I'm hanging out with somebody that she may not like or she may not like. We all have had them conversations. Literally. Literally, we've had those conversations. So it's like if I am to hang with another person that she may not mess with or her, they're not the topic of conversation. I'm not talking about them and bringing them up. For what? That's right. Them still my dogs. These my sisters. I'm not about to sit up there and talk like that about her to you because you don't like her. That's your business. That's between you and her and God. I ain't got nothing to do with it. And don't drag me in it either. Because I tell you quick as shit. No. No, I don't want to be involved. So that's what I love most about us that even though we may not like certain people that we, you know, collectively hang around. But we we're neutral. Yeah. Right? We're cordial. Yeah. Yeah. I'm very cordial. She'll tell you that. I'm very cordial. I can you and I'd be like, y'all, but but they the only ones that know how I really, really feel. But I'm not gonna make that person who I feel that way towards I'm they're not gonna be uncomfortable. They're gonna probably be like, hey, spice, forgive me, huh?
SPEAKER_07They're gonna come to them be like, so spices. Oh, she was so nice. No, because guess what?
SPEAKER_05After this night, you better not call my phone. I ain't gonna answer.
SPEAKER_07I'm being cordial because my sister was there. So I ain't gonna step out of my regular just because. You get what I'm saying? No, I got a reason why I keep you over there.
SPEAKER_11Because you ain't aligning what I'm trying to do. You get what I'm saying? So you got to know what's good with you. And we know what's good with us. And that's, I mean, we don't block blessings, we don't gatekeep, we don't say, don't deal with that person because I don't. We don't do none of that. It's deal. You know what I'm saying? But at the end of the day, if it's somebody who we don't deal with, it ain't gonna be no extra after that.
SPEAKER_08We're gonna say, hey, Queen.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, it's gonna be what it is, you know.
SPEAKER_08You know, what's so funny is that the ones that that um have a problem with you, that's what they guess it's called everybody get a turn, right? Like we like something happened like a couple of days ago.
SPEAKER_11Right? It just hit me. I know what you're talking about now.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, how you gonna do how you gonna do so our name?
SPEAKER_08I mean, you just talk to me like anything. When I gave you that, and I said, Queen, if I if I um, you know, say something out the way or you know, my apartment. No uh. But then you're gonna use our own name.
SPEAKER_11No, we ain't doing that. Right. We ain't doing it. We ain't doing that. I think we the coolest, the coolest you ever meet. Because we welcome everybody. I appreciate y'all telling the haters.
SPEAKER_13So grace down, you gotta grace them, you gotta grace them. That's what the haters just make us greater and motivate us. Baby, come on on, you can sit on here.
SPEAKER_11Let us let us just shove you with some of this love so we can spread it around and change your attitude to make that and make you better.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_06Does she give you baby back? Oh, I love you.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. By the way, Charlene with the seafood house to Charlene, my gossip, she said hello, everybody.
SPEAKER_11She is a bomb.
SPEAKER_07Solid was the last week we got that seafood. That was it.
SPEAKER_11Two weeks ago. She be cooking that. She'll just be like, uh, I'm selling something up there for the clock. You know, yeah. Well, when you come to our podcast, we want you to feel at home exactly in love. Yeah. So we feed you. We make sure if you're a drinker, you get your tequila, you get your vodka, you can get your grimming, whatever you're gonna drink, whatever your poison is, is at the bottom. You get what I'm saying? And we just want you to feel good. You know what I'm saying? And normally we put our podcast on the TV out there so that people can see what we're doing in here.
SPEAKER_07You get what I'm saying? We got a little mama in the house today with. So we kind of put it.
SPEAKER_12We're gonna let her do some little shit.
SPEAKER_11Should have got the TV.
SPEAKER_02Yes, little shit.
SPEAKER_11Nah, that's it boost to me. It doesn't remind me of my daughter. Yes. I mean, that's all. When she's coming in, she's gonna be over here with us. She's gonna without when I'm rapping on my in the dog, but she didn't on stage with me. But she didn't know. But she did. She was on stage with her last summer. Yeah. And um, what was it? Marlo furniture? My daughter was running my youngest. She was only seven at the time. And her little behind was up there with her little lollipop like. I'm up here. You know what I'm saying? Like everything with each other. She was just, she was just up on stage, had a little tambourine. Uh-huh. She was, she was, she has about like, you know. But that's what it's all about.
unknownUh-uh.
SPEAKER_11But that's what it's all about. You know what I'm saying? Getting back to the community, doing things for the community.
SPEAKER_12Because, like we say, girls were the world. Yeah. They raised a lot of coats. You did what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_09Don't do that actually.
SPEAKER_07Um, they did a cult. Boxes of coats.
SPEAKER_11Everybody came out the wolf work. You get what I'm saying to donate.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_11What we do too. We, you know, we go down my spirit square with Sperrow Landing Global. Um, feed on us. You know? And anybody that wants to donate shoes and clothes and stuff, those many women down these days that don't have nothing there, so appreciate it. So that's what I love, that's what I said about I love the women that I'm around. That's a last prayer. That's a last prayer. Um, so at the end of the day, it's it's amazing what all these women do. Everybody does something to contribute to the community. Yes. You get what I'm saying. So, with all of our positives and the things that we um we're proud of, sometimes it doesn't come easy. So, can you all maybe express maybe some time or some obstacle that was kind of challenging for you and how you overcame it?
unknownI love it.
SPEAKER_11Y'all know I will be one of the first on this show to say that I'm very transparent. Huge, transparent, open book, maybe a little bit too much to a fault, but oh well, like judge your mother, okay? But I have anxiety disorder. So and some slight ADHD. So for me, um even though I say I like to sing on the side, that is my challenge to myself. Okay, that is my challenge to myself because I've got like, even though I I can be a certain way around people, like y'all see me now, like I'm the way that I am, I'm not like that all the time. And when I said about energy, I can feel others' energies. So it's sometimes hard for me. Not sometimes, let me stop lying. Every time I get up there, I get nervous. Every single time I get nervous, and it could just be around my friends, around people I see all the time, like nerves. So how I overcome it is I just push through it. Because explaining the push basically, I'm already up there. I gotta get it over with. Like, I gotta end it. I can't just go up there. The up the other side of it is I like a challenge. So can't nobody challenge me and I'm not gonna try to do it. I'm gonna do it. Like, I'm one of those truth or dead. Go ahead, dare me to do it, I'ma do it. You know what I mean? Like, I'm I'm one of those types of people. Even though my nerves will get to me, dare me to do it and I'm gonna do it. You know what I mean? That's that part of me is fearless. Like, go ahead, dare me to do it. Tell me I can't do it. Oh, alright, I got you. Yes, I can. You know what I mean? So I overcome it that way. But is it difficult? Yes. Because I gotta kind of you trying to catch it. I'm also a perfectionist, so like I don't like messing up. I don't like singing songs, I don't know the words to. I don't like, I don't, I don't like that. I don't, I don't wanna be, even though yeah, it's karaoke, so what? You know, everybody can't say so what? I don't want to be up there and I don't want to be, you know, karaoke still. People be like, girl, this is not. I don't, I just, for me, I overthink so much. So it's just like I just pushed through it. I've challenged myself, I have to do it. So I just pushed through it. That's just how I overcome it. It made at the end I feel a whole lot better. Like I've really accomplished something. You know what I mean? Towards the end of it, I'm like, yes, yes, you know, give that 80s jump in the air, you know what I mean? At the end, like, yeah, I'll be proud of myself. Because you didn't, you know what I mean? Because I actually did it. But do my nerves get to me? Yes. Do them intrusive thoughts get to me, yes. It sucks monkey ass, but I gotta push through it. But that's just obstacles in life. You have to push through it. You can't just be stagnant with it. And these are also lessons I'm learning with myself. There are things that I know I want to do, but I'm letting my anxiety and my fear hold me back from it. But if I don't jump off the ledge and I don't do it, how am I gonna know what's gonna happen? So I have to jump off the ledge and I have to do it. Spread my wings and just I fuck it. Oh my god, that's I mean, just do it. You know, so I mean, it is what it is. I can't stop being a mother, I can't stop being a wife. So why I'm gonna stop doing stuff for myself. Why I'm gonna stop. You know what I mean? I should. At the same time, once I had kids, they gonna come before me. So it's gonna be certain things that I'm gonna have to sacrifice for them. And I'll be like, dang, I wish I. But it comes with the territory. It's all good. I'll be able to do that another time. There will be another event, another situation. If it's annual, I'm definitely gonna be there next year. You know what I mean? So it's it it is what it is, but you know, it's it's it's also benefits to that. Because maybe something happened that night that I wasn't supposed to be there for. But I was in the safety of my house with my kids and my family, and my husband, and chilling, playing Uno, you know, and or Monopoly, or you know, whatever we do, or acting stupid or running around with the dog, you know what I mean? So those are things that, you know, moments in life that you can't really get back. You know, because your kids grow so fast, you know what I mean? Life moves so quickly. You only have like certain amount of amounts of time, especially when you're getting old and you realize and you're like, shit. All right, let's go ahead and get it done. Like, you want to live life, you want to do certain things. So don't stop yourself from not doing that or doing it. That's what I'm trying to say. Don't stop yourself from doing it. Just do it. Be like, like you, just go ahead and do it. Do it.
SPEAKER_08So with me, so with me um being a widow, when I lost my husband and husband in 2020, it was just like, okay, so what I'm gonna do. So I was just like, I'm gonna write a book. So I wrote my first book in 2017, sold out. So my two two books I did after that were just um all the notes that we put in put in each other um lunch bags. So I made it made it to a book.
SPEAKER_11That is beautiful.
SPEAKER_08Right. And um, and this was Shane, it's called um it was called um Lux Um Big Daddy and Lux Diary of Love. Like, it's it's just mainly about love, like your girlfriends, your mate, just spreading the love, like the love, you know, at the end of the day, like love disconquer everything. It ain't what you say now. You could you could talk to me, but if you get to talking to me crazy, uh and you talk to me with love, I oh, okay. You know, so with that, and and I wrote my that was my third, that was my third book, but the second book, my first book was um spreading the love, running on empty and receiving a little. The second book was spreading the love, receiving a blessing and running on four. So, and my third book was about the diary of um luscious and big daddy, spreading the book. So, um, and you know, before my husband page, we had talked about death. And he shared with me about everything. He was like, I'm not gonna be here with you lunch. He left my nickname to him, and his nickname was Big Daddy. And he said, Well, I want you to travel the world, you're not gonna be to travel no one because we used to go on trips all the time.
SPEAKER_09He said, Live your life, you wanna be all right, enjoy your life.
SPEAKER_08And he said, don't mess with no good, no, no good man. Good man. So live your life, you wanna be alright. And that's what I've been doing. I stay outside, right?
SPEAKER_13Seriously, and then I went to my counselor and she was like, but do bring you joy, because don't nobody know. Nobody can walk in your shoes, they don't know what you feel. So that's what I've been doing, you know. And I'm like, because life be life, and like people die, it's not the older people, it's the younger people, right? And I'm just like, you know, I just learned to just meet people where they are.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08You know, and it's called grace because all of us gonna get there, we're not gonna get there at the same time. And don't look at me because I might say that's wrong, I might not look the problem. Help me, you know.
SPEAKER_13And that's that's who I am. I'm a helper.
SPEAKER_08And I want to just do this, this, or just look, you know what I'm saying? Or would you need help with, you know, or what can I help you with? You know, and because I didn't have that coming up. And I did to a certain extent, but then they made fun of it. You know, or she can't do this or she can't do that. And that just made me just conquer everything that they said I couldn't do.
SPEAKER_11I asked. I don't care what it was dumb, it might sound dumb to you, but I don't know.
SPEAKER_13I'm asking. But don't don't look at me because, oh, that's dumb to you, and I shouldn't know that. If I don't know, I don't know. You know, and I shot off over my sister's sunshine, so so and the one, because they helped me. Like, helped me, like to the to the core that I was like, what's the eat me? Let me show you the email then. I go out over front. You don't know my email in fact. I don't know, but they made fun of us.
SPEAKER_08So now, since they made fun of me, so I helped the people that just like me. Yep. You know, and um, I now forget. I went to my um my girlfriend job the one to go down there to see her. And it was this homeless guy that be out there is always sitting on the grind, right?
SPEAKER_13And and I was like, hi, what's your name? He was like such a such. And I forgot it was years now. Um, he was like, What's your name? And she was walking past, she was like, Where are you going? I said, No, I met him today. She said, she said, girl, I thought he ain't gonna even talk. She said, I don't walk back. You know, he's been out here for like six or seven years.
SPEAKER_11I said, You ain't never speak to him. Energy and alignment, right? You ain't never speaking.
SPEAKER_13You don't even know if that was Jesus Christ somebody. Because you on that ground and he owned this, that don't mean he's gonna be there all the time. I mean, you don't know what happened. You don't know what God might do. And he the same one can say, Oh you remember I was sitting on that ground? You don't remember me, I remember you. Hold on.
SPEAKER_11I don't mean to interrupt, sis, but I have to piggyback off of this. I promise you. That just reminded me of, and I think I told you about this, my husband was with our daughters, our two oldest daughters. And he don't usually give out money. And he was walking, he was coming from the little gas station store, whatever. And when they was leaving, this dude was like, you know, you got me money. So my husband happened to have cash on him that day. So he thinks he gave me like five dollars. So the dude said, Oh man, thanks, Craig, appreciate it, and walked off. So nobody realized that the man said his name until they took a few steps. And my daughters was like, Daddy, hold on, how he know your name? And my husband was like, You know what? You right, how did he know my name? So they turned around and went back to where that man was. It was nobody there, it was a completely dead end. That was Jesus. Oh, wow. So that's to piggyback off of what she's saying. You never know. You have no clue who you're entertaining, what spirits you're entertaining, who's in front of you. Um people that others may look at and be like, oh, they're weird. You never know. I've never been one to be like this to anybody. Homeless, um, not self-sufficient, meaning you need some help or whatever, handicapped, um, not mentally stable. You know what I mean? I'ma show you love because that's how I was came up and that's how my heart is. I'm just going love on you, period. That's just what it is. I'm not about to show you no type of ill will or show you nothing with because I don't want to be treated like that. I don't know if I'm gonna be in your position one day. I could get in an accident when I leave out of here and be crippled from the neck down. I'm gonna still need love though. So I don't want to feel or exude any type of negative. I don't like doing that. I want to love on you. You know what I mean? And even if that's, you know, giving you an encouraging word or say hello to the gentleman sitting outside who don't nobody pay attention or speaking to. Girl, I know he can talk.
SPEAKER_13I said you have to talk to him. You have to talk to him. But we like walking.
SPEAKER_11It happened. But when you walk with love, we walked into a place last morning. As soon as we walked in, I promise y'all, that the elder, the older ladies and men, they grabbed me and they was like, hey, I was like, hey, my craziness.
SPEAKER_07I'm with it. I'm with all of it. You know what I'm talking about? I'm like, ew, ow, ow, you know, and they just loving on us.
SPEAKER_13And the lady would have put, she wasn't even from here.
SPEAKER_07She was like, oh, I just loved God. What you yes, they was just loving us, and it's because you walk with love.
SPEAKER_13And then one of my brothers that I was saying so long, he's like, sis, you good? I was like, Yeah, I'm good. Just sitting there, eat my food. The next thing I know, it was. So if y'all want y'all finish that, y'all let me know what y'all want. Old drink.
SPEAKER_11Yeah. I was like, okay. It was amazing. We had a time last night. And we really didn't do anything but just enjoy the company. That was a good time. It was Shady State.
SPEAKER_08When was it? Shady Brooklyn.
SPEAKER_11I don't know where we were. We were somewhere.
SPEAKER_10You went to Sunny Brook? Yes, I was. And they pulled me the book.
SPEAKER_11No, no, no, no, no. What blows me is, see, I told y'all about Sunny Bruce.
SPEAKER_13That's what I did. We wrote past it. That's what Spice was saying. Because we wrote past. Because I've been heard everybody talking about Sonny Sonny. I think Sonny Bird. So Spice looked at me and she like, sis, what you doing? I said, I'm turning back around. Let's just go on. Let's go check this out. Because people are talking about, let's just go in the kitchen. I got a little bit more. We went in there. It is a little bit. I had a salmon salad. She goes, Spice, give me a salmon. Man, they fooled away. Everything was just a bond.
SPEAKER_10A good dime bar wouldn't give you wrong.
SPEAKER_11Yeah.
SPEAKER_12And I felt like we were like in a hole in the wall. It is.
SPEAKER_11It was like the right, the atmosphere was perfect. Everything was perfect. Yeah. And everybody was perfect. Yeah. You get what I'm saying? But they were loving love. And y'all went Thursday, right? Yeah. We went last night. Just just stay clear on Saturdays. You know what I'm saying? But any other day. Taco Tuesday, I think. Yeah, yeah. Taco Tuesday.
SPEAKER_13I'm like, dog, we've been back. I said I'm going back. I'm going to take it back.
SPEAKER_11Sunday's not the same. Saturday, Saturdays have changed. They do karaoke there on Saturday, that's what you said. But you know, a younger crowd. Yeah, like I've noticed, like, now that Sunnybrook has started to get a little bugs. And it's simple. Yes. It's been there. And it's helped a lot. You know what I mean? But I like it more when it's like the Thursday. And it's chill. And it's the same music. And it was good. I'm pretty sure. No, I know who was behind the bar was Liz. Hey, Liz, huh? Yes, yes. That's my booth. I'm telling them now, yes. Yes, man makes a ball pitch cobbler. Okay. When I sell. Yeah. And them Dizzy Lizzies gets you a Dizzy Lizzy. Dizzy. Listen, but you already know. You already know. I had a lemon draw, and I told somebody, I said, I don't want that other drink.
SPEAKER_13You know the. I want a spike. You can have it. I said, get her the what is it? It's 843. Well, what did you have? Long eye night. I said, just she wanted to give her my drink. Make it a long eye. Give it to her. I would always nice over.
SPEAKER_10I don't think it's awful line. Look. One level.
SPEAKER_03That's awesome.
SPEAKER_10One level.
SPEAKER_12Oh my god. This little person right here. I tell y'all.
SPEAKER_08Oh, yeah, now y'all gotta say too. Um, to piggyback on about my husband and the memories that we that's a good thing.
SPEAKER_10Y'all not feel we need food too, so eat all the food from us.
SPEAKER_08And it's just um, so I encourage because I see a sister on here saying that it was hard for her to get over. So the things that I did was the memories that me and my husband shared. And just staying busy, doing the things that you love doing, you know. Um, you can't sit around and you know, and beat yourself up. Just think, sister. You gotta do, you gotta do stuff that make that bring you joy. And I go on the memories and that he shared and you know, and um to make a long story short, like he ain't got something on him.
SPEAKER_13You know, because he was hanging normal. I said, pick that, he always be looking up. I said, Big daddy, why you keep looking up?
SPEAKER_02I said I'm gonna be all right. I'm thinking next day.
SPEAKER_13I said, I'm gonna be all right. Big dad, I'm good. I don't want I don't want to see no pain like that. I wanna wish this one about worst pain.
SPEAKER_08I ain't want I ain't from 220 to 120. I couldn't talk.
SPEAKER_07That's love. That's loving people, you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_11Yeah, and it's just it's just been an amazing journey. Like I said, I love my sisters in the movie when Scottie got killed January 3rd.
SPEAKER_07It was I screamed so loud. I screamed, and when I screamed, they all was like, oh no. Because see, I ain't the one that be crying.
SPEAKER_11Jody, you kicked us out. I'm just, but I'm not saying it in that way. I'm saying it in that way of we understood.
SPEAKER_07I just it was a lot for me.
SPEAKER_11And then when I found out that it was a white man that killed him, and then I'm I'm dealing with this white man every day. Because he now he's home, I ain't doing and and you never know who they friends with, right? You see how the administration that we got in place and keep let criminals out. They keep partnering, and he's a veteran, so it's like he's trying to use his skin color to get him out of what he did.
SPEAKER_07You killed him, you killed him in cold blood. And then that's what happened yesterday when she broke down on my birthday. On her birthday, she broke down. She called me. She didn't call nobody, she called me. I was like, I have my car. And then she said, I'm getting out of the car. I scream, I was like, Oh no, don't you get out of the car? And then my mother looked at me, I'm crying so hard because it's just it's too much for me. When you don't get out the car when you're in a car accident, you don't get out the car.
SPEAKER_11Because that man hit him. His body flew on too live. You know, it took me a long time to drive on the highway. I would not drive on that way, would I? I will drive all, I know how to get around the city. But I I I would encourage her all the time. I wouldn't say I would encourage her all the time. You can do it.
SPEAKER_07It's like, that's why I said you gotta have sisterhood. All they did was instill in me. You can.
SPEAKER_11You can. We know, we know you are, we know you're going through something, but you can't.
SPEAKER_07They were my strength. That's what I said at the end of the day. I I thank God every day for for Ash, Teresa, Dr.
SPEAKER_11Nisa, all my sisters, sweet T, Kim, everybody. I got so many of them. 65 girls that I don't want. I know that's right. And every last one of them played a role.
SPEAKER_07Play the role on how we as sisters can get through the next day. So I feel good. You know.
SPEAKER_06I feel good by it. I thank God for it.
SPEAKER_11I'm gonna um you're gonna change the mood for a second. Um, I don't know about y'all, but I love music. I believe that music gets us through everything. You gotta say, I mean, good times, bad times, happy times, different times. If you remember things by certain songs, yeah. But the question is if you individually had to pick one song that was your theme song. Okay? Meaning, like, let me give you, let me paint the scene for you. You're walking into a party, it's for you, but you have to have that one song that plays. Oh my god. Your theme song. Oh, I got mine. Whoop would it be?
SPEAKER_10Blue box. If you said, make sure that you said Only One Night Though.
SPEAKER_07That's my song. Only one night, though. I am Freak.io.
SPEAKER_12Only one night.
SPEAKER_07That's my song.
SPEAKER_13Only one night, though.
SPEAKER_12That's a gospel song.
SPEAKER_13They play blue. Yago on the stage. I had a flu. What's his name?
SPEAKER_12Tabby.
SPEAKER_11No.
SPEAKER_13His name is uh what is it?
SPEAKER_11Um Say something. Tide tripping.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_11I freaking love that song. It's my theme song in the morning. And when I feel sad, I play that song. I introduce it to them. Yeah, I'm always saying that. And I tell you, that that that song is bad. That's a bad song. But if it's not that one, then it's put it in the pretzel.
SPEAKER_10I actually showed about put it in the press. I'm talking about. I would not pretend. Come on, you got so. Y'all know I love it.
SPEAKER_11I'ma I'ma be I'ma be completely transparent. She a rocker. I'm a rocker, but honestly speaking, it would be DNA by Kendra Lamont. Straight up and down.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_11I am so proud to be Maroon.
SPEAKER_04Okay, okay, okay.
SPEAKER_11Okay. Because as much as, and I use the word maroon because I learned about the Maroon people. Right? And I just learned about the Maroon people like two days ago. And the Maroon people were us natives of the land. Which tells you there was slavery, but we we were no slaves.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_11But the Maroon people basically had it together. They were the Seminoles. That's who they were. And they had control over a lot of stuff. Um, but just getting back to because I'm gonna go down a whole rabbit hole when I do that. But I'm very proud of who I am, I'm very proud of where I come from. I'm very proud of my skin. I'm very proud of the fact that it glitters in the sunlight. I'm very proud of my hair color. I'm very proud that my people have the influence that they do in this world, not just nationwide, but in this world. Okay. Um I'm very proud of that. Um, I'm very proud of the wisdom that we have. I'm very proud of the knowledge that we had. I'm very proud of the communities that were created. Even though people were upset about it and they decided to be evil and tear them down, we still prove to be resilient and are still resilient. No matter what you do, you can't break us down. You want to be us real bad though. So, you know what I'm saying? How are you gonna hate from the sideline? You can't even get in, Sleep. You know what I mean? So I'm saying isn't with me shooting. No, you were not. Hello. Like, seriously. Like you can't you can't you can't do that. You cannot duplicate this. You cannot try to enjoy this. You there is no there is no tan or self-tanner that can make you this way. There is no perm that you can put in your head that can make you this way. So I'm proud of who I am. I'm proud of the black, brown, Haitian, African, American wife and mother that I am. Yes, you are. So that would be my thing. We can see you. Those are all very um different, same and indifferent, but they all definitely do speak. If I had to sit back right now and just, you know, give my two cents, I can see DNA. Glue, I but I'm I'm I I I I see it. And definitely, oh, yes. You have you have it. Only one item. Only one item. Yeah. Because see, for me, music um definitely it can tell a story. And if I took it a little deep, which we don't have time for today, I would tell you all to, you know, what would your playlist be? Because your playlist kind of describes your your morning, your night, your A, your Z. But if you haven't done it already for yourselves, I suggest you create a playlist from A done to Z. You want me to send this comment? Oh yes, honey. We will sing. Do you want different moves? Different ones are different moves. Do you write the cleanup? Do you want a car ride home? Do you want to make that? Do you want the like I got?
SPEAKER_12I got playlists.
SPEAKER_11I got playlists. Like, it it depends on how I'm feeling, but in the morning, I have this playlist that's amazing.
SPEAKER_07And a lot I listen to instrumentals because I my mind I like to freak south.
SPEAKER_11You know what I'm saying? So I listen to a lot of instrumentals. So I ride listening to jazz, I ride listening to RB. So it helps me create.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_11You get what I'm saying? It keeps me shy. But then when I'm just, you know, I feel like holy sis. My playlists are amazing. So I don't mind sharing them. Hold on by the shared playlist. For one, if it doesn't get you to know the person, it also allows for you to get to know some songs that you may never heard of or listen to before.
SPEAKER_07But I like how you said that because that's how I I look at things. When I get in people's car and I listen to their music, it makes me that's how I perceive that person. Yeah. It's amazing that you said that because that is a fact for me. I'm like, this would be listening. Yes, yes. I mean, I didn't see that, but then I'd be like, oh, okay.
SPEAKER_05Because you've been in my car. You'd be cranking like, I'm like, who are that? She'd be like, who's that s like? Who is that? Who is that? So I mean, um, um R E Linux.
SPEAKER_11Oh, yes. Um that's who we get. If you drive in my, if you ride in my car, you you getting some RE Linux.
SPEAKER_07You getting some, give you a little gospel too. But I got a lot of new soul because I love it. I'm Google Matt. You get what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_11Put my J Why D on. And I love Latticey. Okay. But yeah, that too. Ladies, I love that.
SPEAKER_07You know what I'm saying? Kelly Price. People only realize Kelly Price got songs that's right that's never been heard.
SPEAKER_02And you just hear this not too long ago?
SPEAKER_12And it's like it's like, I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_07It's I do judge you from what you listen to. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_11Just don't just don't be like the dude that told me to turn my nirvana down.
SPEAKER_10No, no.
SPEAKER_11That's what you're not gonna do. Oh, I cranked it all the way up. I am, you get in my car, I'm just gonna be just like my mother. You get in my car, you will hear some jail sky, you will hear some her, you will hear some Ludicy. But then you might turn around and you might hear some Maryland Masling. You might hear some Ozzy Osborne, you might hear some Lincoln Park. Um you might you might hear that, you know what I'm saying? But then you might turn around and hear some Ozzy brothers. Yes. Then you might turn around and hear some stylistics, then you might turn around, you know what I'm saying, and get a silvers. You feel what I'm saying? Then turn back around and maybe on my gangster shit. I might be on my UGK. Card it. Maybe on my Scarface. Um, okay, so I'm gonna be for real. You probably won't hear, so unpopular opinion, probably. I'll probably crank more men than I do women. Don't ask me why. I won't. I'm not saying that I don't like women rappers or female rappers. There are certain ones like period. There are certain ones that I listen to. However, my main stuff, like my favorite out of all time, is gonna be Scarface. It's totally Scarface because he's an excellent storyteller. And no matter how he tells what he's saying, like Devin, yeah, Devin is funny. You know what I'm saying? Devin is funny, but face always takes you to that death, to that spot where you really gotta sit and you gotta think about life. You know what I'm saying? Like a joint that's one of my favorites is so sad. He was playing when he said that he was ready. Soon as he was talking about his man, I was like, damn, this whole song about his whole frankly suicide. You know what I'm saying? Like those are things that you think about. Never seen a man cry until I've seen a man die. Like those type situations. So that's my man 50 grand, but let me shut up. We got we got a couple minutes. Yeah. We got a couple minutes. I'm sorry.
