Welcome back to the Tyler Reagan Exchange. I'm very glad you're here. Hope you've enjoyed listening to all of our podcasts so far. Today we have this guy named Malachi Pitkin. He was on one of our first podcasts. That podcast will never see the light of day. It was awful. But he came back, got some redemption. It was a great podcast. We actually filled out a bracket for the NCAA tournament, which we were this is a Tuesday, so it was it's dropping on the Wednesday that we have more games than Thursday. So it was a really cool podcast. We talked a lot about college basketball, a little bit about his mission trip that he's going on this week. But I hope you enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_02See you, Joey. So this is our second attempt with you on the podcast. Yes, I'm excited. First time was 20 minutes. Was it was it even 20 minutes? No, 15. Max. It was a 18 minutes. It was a sad 18 minutes is what it was. Just absolutely disturbing interaction.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, yeah, I'm pretty sure you flirted with my wife. By accident. I mean, I obviously it wasn't on purpose.
SPEAKER_01I wouldn't say that though.
SPEAKER_02Right, but it was all accidental. Everything, I think just every time words came out was an accident.
SPEAKER_01That's true.
SPEAKER_02You're a big car all day. You were like, bro, let me be on your pod. Let me be on your pod. And then we record the first two, and I was like, Come on, Malachi, just do it anyway.
SPEAKER_01But I didn't think because we were at Mercy Hill, me and Tander, and he was like, All right, we're going to the recording. I was like, All right, bet, I'm gonna come with y'all. And I was able to go, and then halfway there, he's like, Yeah, Tyler's gonna let you do an episode. I was like, Are you kidding me? So I was super nervous. I didn't know anything about podcasts, so I didn't even know what to talk about. Had you ever listened to a podcast before the first one? I had listened to maybe three.
SPEAKER_02Like three podcasts or three episodes? Three, three episodes. Okay, and from that point, which was what, a month and a half ago, probably two months. Since then, how many podcasts have you listened to? Total ish.
SPEAKER_01I would say, well, let me try to get an accurate guess. I've been working at Spectrum for like since like the beginning of December, and what is it, March? I've I've listened to I've probably listened, I listened to like six a week.
SPEAKER_02That was probably four months ago when you went you recorded, actually. It was way longer.
SPEAKER_01Because that was before Yeah, you're right. So I've probably I've probably listened to six a week since I started Spectrum. So six full episodes a week. Six full episodes a week. So can someone do the math? Okay. He literally just typed in math all right into Google. How much how much weeks would that be? If it was it's four five months, five months, so 20 weeks. 20 weeks, 20 times six. What is that?
SPEAKER_02No, no, no. We don't need a calculator for that.
SPEAKER_01Come on, cats. 120? So probably around 120. I was like, whoa, whoa, whoa, we don't need these calculators. I wasn't thinking clearly. That's not a good look. I actually listened to I listened to like three today. Well, no, I listened to four, but I cut two short because they were kind of boring. Was it about March Madness? I watched two about March Madness, but the thing I like about podcasts is I like like a younger, like I guess you're a big Bright Bryce Crawford guy, right? Well, I do like Bryce Crawford. Some of his stuff's a little iffy. I my favorite podcaster though of all time is Theo Vaughn.
SPEAKER_02That doesn't surprise me. But weren't you saying you can't listen to too much of him?
SPEAKER_01Like you eventually you're like, yeah, I can't keep dude. His content is really, really funny to me. Like I love his freaking sense of humor. But like they be talking about some stuff that's not the most wholesome. Fair. Like you're like, let me just get something right in there. Yeah, so that's why I try to balance it between Ru Slawn, Bryce Crawford, and I do like Ru Slaw. You've been listening to the I've been listening to Ruslawn. I love Luke. Although I can't listen to too much of his because they're just super like political and like world heavy, which I don't mind.
SPEAKER_02But like I like how he goes political, but everything is scripture through scripture. Yeah. That's true. Because it's like I think we do need to have a general idea of what's going on through in the world. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. It doesn't need to be in excess, and if it's not through the lens of scripture, it's for nothing. Yeah. Then it's just conspiracy.
SPEAKER_01That's true. But yeah, so I got I gotta listen to them to balance out Theo Vaughn. Cause just like like I listen, I listened to an episode today. He was interviewing this chauffeur in uh actually in Charlotte. Um yeah, he's just a he's like a 61-year-old chauffeur. I'm gonna not say the one thing I was gonna say, but great call. But yeah, I know, thank you. But the chauffeur dude was telling the story about like how his 25-year-old girlfriend threw like a pot of fettuccine on him. It was it was just really funny. The whole stuff. But just random, yeah, just random stuff. I like I like stuff like that, but yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's cool. Um well, I'm glad that you're way more experienced so that you don't absolutely fall apart this time. Um so today, uh I mean Malachi talked before we were gonna do this. So this is kind of a last minute recording, which is why we're in my living room again and not in our studio. It's more comfortable though. It is more comfortable than our studio. Um well, couch uh couch talk will be.
SPEAKER_01Couch talk about to be fine.
SPEAKER_02Nobody knows about couch talk yet, though, so we gotta be okay. We gotta be careful. But it's coming. Y'all just wait. It's coming. It's coming. Um, all right, so you did research on sorry, I'm turning a game on. No, you're good. We uh are on this is dropping on Wednesday, so this will drop tomorrow. But March Madness starts this week. Malachi, you you was it two weeks ago? You're like, I really want to fill out a graph.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I've never done one, and I got a lot of friends who like to bet on like games and stuff, and I just know it's like a big deal, and it is one.
SPEAKER_02So, my four favorite days in the world outside of Bonnie and Bryson's birthday. And my anniversary, which is in a couple weeks. Um, actually, one of the closing dates that were that's an option for us for the house. Is all the anniversary? It's our anniversary. Oh, that'd be sick if you're gonna be able to. I think if I remember the dates correctly, yeah. Um, so but we're we're gonna fill out a bracket together because why not? That sounds like I'm gonna teach you on our way through. Garrett is on the computer, um, and we're gonna do some research. So before we get into it, all right, you know slim to nothing about college basketball, is that correct?
SPEAKER_01I mean, I know it's I know it's different rules than the NBA, and I know it's different, like three-point line distances, right? And I know there's a lot of complications. Distance. I know there's a lot of complications with like NIL stuff and transfers. That's all college sports. Yeah, and I and it doesn't seem like it's like that complicated with you know, like the NBA, but yeah, no, because with the NBA, at least there's a contract.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, with the NIL, there's no contract. You can literally play there a year, and if you want to bounce, you can bounce, and there's no repercussions at all.
SPEAKER_01You and uh Chaston were talking about that, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we talked about it a little bit. Yeah, because you listened to our podcast too, right? I did. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I do listen to y'all's podcast every week. I make sure to I make sure to get it done. I'm listening to this podcast even though I'm in it. You're gonna hate it. I'm gonna love it. No, listening to yourself talk is the worst thing on the planet. I'm gonna hate it. Yeah. What is it, Garrett? A foot difference?

SPEAKER_01Uh Caleb Wilson. Who's their head coach? Well, it was uh Bill Bilichek, but he got like he did some weird and freaky stuff with that.
SPEAKER_02So there it was their head basket, their head basketball coach was Bill Belichick.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Right? Or is that wrong? It was that was their football coach, wasn't it? Dang it. Still is.
SPEAKER_02Oh shoot. And he's just dating a 25-year-old. I just knew something weird happened there. He's a 70-year-old dating a 25-year-old. It is kind of odd, but hey, love is love.
SPEAKER_01I thought he was never mind. I thought he was married. I guess not. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02No, he's not married. Okay. Well, I am a Carolina fan. Oh, okay. Okay. But but you're not.
SPEAKER_01No, I am. I've been to a lot of games. I just don't keep up with like sports like that. Okay, so but you love basketball. I do love basketball. Yeah, yeah. Um, I wouldn't say played basketball. You were on a basketball team in high school. I was on a basketball team in high school.
SPEAKER_02There we go. Um so Caleb Wilson is on the current roster. Who else?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Uh they got that one African dude with the weird last name. I think. Oh, is this? Are you pulling up their I don't see any weird last names? Do you? Maybe I was thinking of Duke.

SPEAKER_01That would not prove my case as a Carolina fan. You are not a Carolina fan. Okay.

SPEAKER_01Michael Jordan.
SPEAKER_02Incorrect. Really? Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time. He is not the greatest at Carolina player of all time. Meaning while he was at Carolina. Okay. Well, I didn't know that's what you meant by that question. Would you like a second option?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, sure. I'm not gonna lie, all my favorite like NBA players played a dude. I think it's time to convert.
SPEAKER_02I think it's time to convert. No. Whatever that whatever you just looked up was not true. Okay, wrong camera. That's NFL. I can answer this question. I don't need Google. Greatest to ever play at Carolina basketball from a collegiate perspective is Tyler Hansborough, and it's not even close. Who was that cool white dude with the long hair?
SPEAKER_01Tyler the long hair. Maybe he didn't have long hair, but he he played a few years ago. Oh, are you talking about with a beard too? Yeah. Oh. Dude, what was that? His name was. I love that guy. Oh, what was his name? I think he went to go play overseas. He did. He didn't make it in the NBA. Sadly.
SPEAKER_02That guy was so cool. I'm trying to think what year it was. It was Coach K's last year, I think. Was that 2019? 2020?
SPEAKER_01I think it was 2020. Because I went to What's his name? I don't know, but I love that dude. His intro um in the like, you know, in the arena, whenever they give like the player intros and stuff, and they do it. His was cool.
SPEAKER_022021, 2022. Final game was a lost Carolina. Just search up. Rip.
SPEAKER_01That white dude who was a dog on UNC. That would pop it up though.
SPEAKER_02He's a ginger. Not that much.
SPEAKER_01I don't like him as much anymore. That's crazy. I'm just playing my cousin's a ginger.

Yeah, I don't know much. Which is gonna make this fun because college basketball and college football are my two favorite things in the world. So we're gonna start with tonight's game and tomorrow's game. So today is Tuesday, um, 317, right? And so we already watched one game, and that was who won the first game?
SPEAKER_01Let me remember which teams played. Howard won, right? Howard won.
SPEAKER_02So we're gonna circle Howard. That's our we're cheating a little bit. We already have the first win.
SPEAKER_01Okay, where's the Howard one at? Oh, okay. I see what you were saying. It's okay to be blind. Thank you.
SPEAKER_02Thank you. Thank you. Uh so next, Texas, NC State. Who do you think is gonna win? Well, did you do any research on this?
SPEAKER_01No, but I know people who go to NC State, and I kind of want to cheer for NC State just because I know like Michael went to NC.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but you're a Carolina fan.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, I definitely know NC State's losing.
SPEAKER_02Okay, great. Okay. I pick Texas. All right, bet. I I don't have any issue with NC State, but you can't be a Carolina. I'm gonna teach you how to be a Carolina. And I want you to know I hate Carolina. But you need to teach me how to like.
SPEAKER_01Or you can pick Duke since I'm not picking Duke. I've been to five Carolina games. So? And I'm locked in.
SPEAKER_02I've been to Wendy's a ton of time. It's not meaning it's my favorite restaurant.

So tomorrow night we've got um Prairie View AM. Okay. That's a name versus Lehigh. Um, so Lehigh has a lot of tournament experience. Lehigh several years ago, this is when I was still in high school, so this is 10 plus years ago. They beat Duke, a number two seed Duke. Um and I just remember that because we had a guy on our baseball team that was a huge Duke fan. And when they beat him, we would just walk into the dugout and just be like, Lee High.
SPEAKER_03Dang. Oh, Lee. Poor guy.
SPEAKER_02And he also had anger issues. So um my my senior dude, off topic completely. My senior year, we were in Florida playing a tournament. Um, I was in a game, yeah. I had had a home run, a double, um, and I like flew out to right field. So I was two for three, home run and a double. I was playing a fantastic game. I stole home, which no none of you know anything about baseball. I don't know what stealing home is. I stole home on the pitch, though. Meaning I beat the pitch from third time. You could run like that back then? Back then I could. Um, so I all in this same game, I did that. Darn. At shortstop, I missed a ball. Yeah. Playing defense. After doing all that, I missed the ball, right? I had an error. I made a mistake. One mistake. I'm running back into the dugout after because we eventually get three outs. And this fool, same the Duke fan, I see a glove comes flying by my head at 70 miles an hour and hits the fence on the way into the dugout. And I turn around.
SPEAKER_03He goes, How dare you miss that ball? You're a piece of crap. You're the worst baseball player I've ever seen in.
SPEAKER_02Obviously, worse words. I was just like, No way, you just threw a glove at me like a five-year-old. I'm not a five-year-old. Uh and he's he was quite a bit shorter than me. He was like, and then this other guy that I don't think played a game the entirety of that tournament for. That was me in basketball, but on baseball. Okay, I got you. No, he walks up and he goes, Guys, guys, I think we need to chill out. And then we both just started yelling at him and telling him how much of a loser he was. He deserved it. I was like, stay out of this. Um, but yeah, that's how much anger he had. So I I I want you to take all of that and think about how he responded to us. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Saying Lehigh.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I feel like that's a little bit of an over-exaggeration. Yep. Um, he is quite that.
SPEAKER_01I'm taking Prairie View A M. Okay. I mean, based off the story you just gave me, bro, I think I'm gonna go with Lehi. Go with Lehigh. It's a good story. That's that's a fire story.
SPEAKER_02And the next pick is uh gonna be a fun pick. So do you know uh the the backstory with Miami of Ohio?
SPEAKER_01No, but I heard something at some point and I don't remember what it was, but something crazy happened with them, didn't they?
SPEAKER_02So up until their conference championship game, they lost their conference championship game. Didn't they won a crazy streak? They won all year. They were 30 and oh coming into their conference championship game and they lost their conference championship. Um, but so there's this thing called um quad one, quad two, quad three, quad four wins, right? Okay, and basically the quads are based on strength. So quad one wins are wins that you want to have.
SPEAKER_01Okay, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, so like a lot of teams in the SEC, like Tennessee probably had like seven quad one wins where it's like top tier. Yeah, yeah. Like they punched their ticket to March Madness super early. Yeah, right. Um, they're a sixth seed. Uh so the more quad one wins, the more of a case that you you make to be in this round, right? So Mao Miova, Ohio had zero quad one wins. So basically they played a bunch of bumps. I think they had two quad two wins, and the rest of them were three and four. Like, okay.
SPEAKER_01So nobody's right. Yeah. They went undefeated. Yeah. I guess they're it's hard to go undefeated, but then again, if you're going up against like little competition.
SPEAKER_02But how can you penalize the players for beating who's in front of them? Yeah, that's true. They did their job, they played who was in front of them and beat them. Did they like blow out the other teams or they're close? Sometimes they won on buzzer beaters. Um it wasn't like they were just ripping through everyone. Um, and then SMU. SMU's a complicated team. So correct me if I'm wrong, Garrett, but I think SMU's wins. I'm pretty sure they beat Carolina. Um, I'm that's a quadril win. I know. Right? Yeah. Um just look up what SMU SMU's wins. But I mean they did beat Carolina, I think. Yes, they did.
SPEAKER_01Um 97 to 83.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01What are we doing?
SPEAKER_02State also whipped up on Carolina.
SPEAKER_01I know.
SPEAKER_02But they went on like a three-game stretch where they just got smoked.
SPEAKER_01My friend who works an NC State fan, and he was rubbing it my face. I was like, bro, literally no one likes NC State. That's a way to be a good Carolina fan, yes. Exactly. I'm just saying, like, I understand that people like Duke, but literally NC State, dude, they have the stupidest Scott.

SPEAKER_01Good. Mike, I hate your team, bro. They suck, they're so bad. Yeah. Their colors are ugly, their players are uglier. Red. And yes, I just don't like it, dude. You don't like red? I like the color red, but now they're red.

The power behind this is when I was in first grade, I don't know why I remember this, but some random kid named Sam told me Duke is puke, Wake is fake, NC State is the one we hate. And that one's at the end, and it just uses that the hate word. Uh-huh. And that just has power behind it for me.
SPEAKER_02So you hate NC State more than you hate Duke? Yes. Wrong answer as a Carolina fan.
SPEAKER_01I hate Duke more than I hate NC State. There you go.
SPEAKER_02Much better.
SPEAKER_01Now I'm gonna be a different Carolina fan. Nope. I really just do hate NC State. Nope. I'm not a Duke fan by any means.
SPEAKER_02No, but here's what here's what you have to recognize. What NC State fans hate more than anything is how irrelevant they are.
SPEAKER_01They are irrelevant. They don't matter.
SPEAKER_02You can't hate them more than you hate Duke because it makes them relevant.
SPEAKER_01But the thing is, like, Zion Williamson played a Duke.
SPEAKER_02Jason Tatum played Duke. And you love Jason?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay, you gotta hate him.
SPEAKER_01I can't hate him. I'm more of an NBA fan than I am a uh nope you gotta hate him. I can't, though. It's not my heart.
SPEAKER_02I don't think I should I don't want to do this. Alright, pick a new team. I can't. Alright. So um I'm taking SMU in that game. I'm taking Because SMU has some quad one wins. Uh let's see, they've got uh the Wayforce wins decent. Uh any, I mean, playing Virginia close, Virginia won, which was fine. Beat Florida State, that's a good win. Um beat beat uh beat Notre Dame, that's a good win. Not great win. Beat Louisville, that's a very good win. So like they have some good quad won wins. Um who they're playing. There, I mean Ohio uh Miami Ohio stands no chance, in my opinion.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, but like I think Miami, Ohio's going in with the confidence, like dog walked all these teams.
SPEAKER_02You see what I'm saying though? Like you think I want I want Miami of Ohio to win. I'm picking the SMU, but I want Miami of Ohio to win. That's valid. You know why? Why? You know who either one of those teams plays when they come out?
SPEAKER_01Uh Tennessee.
SPEAKER_02Correct.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02So bring it on, right?
SPEAKER_01This don't even matter for you. They're getting smoked one way or the other. All right.
SPEAKER_02So you know how to fill out a bracket.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So you pick the winning team and then you write it on this thing and you do it for each one. Yep. So let's go ahead and let's see how quickly we can stop if we need to.
SPEAKER_02Um first pick, who's winning? Duke. Yes. For sure. So don't jump. You can you can hate Duke, um, but it's pretty clear they're gonna win this. Yeah, yeah, I know. Um Ohio State TCU. Uh I'm taking TCU because TCU is super hot. Ohio State, the only thing that they've got going for them, they had a couple big wins this year. The main thing they have going for them is they played Michigan, which is the number one seed.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna say because I thought it did something.
SPEAKER_02They played Michigan really close in the Big Ten tournament, but they lost. So it's like they're playing well, but TCU's like dogs.
SPEAKER_01They're dogs. I'm gonna take your word on that one. So TCU. TCU.
SPEAKER_02All right, all right. St. John's, um, Northern Iowa. This some yeah, some people were talking about Northern Iowa possibly being an upset. I don't see it happening. Um, I think St. John's slips through. Um, I think this is the last game St. John's wins. So I think they get beat after this.
SPEAKER_01Then Kansas and Cal Baptist. Definitely.
SPEAKER_02Cal Baptist has some really good shooters, but Kansas is going crazy.
SPEAKER_01Fire this year. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02They've got some really big wins. Uh Louisville, South Florida. Um, this is my first upset pick. Um, this is a popular.
SPEAKER_01Louisville, South Florida.
SPEAKER_02Yes. US. Why do you think they're gonna win? Um, so they play a very similar style of offense um to Louisville. It's very fast-paced. They push the ball up and down the court. The only difference is they defend the three a lot better than Louisville does. So while Louisville takes a lot of threes, um, they also give up a lot of threes. And that combined with the fact that they're playing. But Louisville's also a good team. So taking Louisville over USF um Yeah, I'm gonna take is not a bad pick. I just like that as my first upset pick.
SPEAKER_01So do I have to pick upsets?
SPEAKER_02You don't have to.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02I didn't know if that was like required. In my bracket, I picked every single upset correctly. My first round, I only had two misses.
SPEAKER_01Dang.
SPEAKER_02Um, and I picked Florida as the champion, which I picked up. They won my share. The problem is after my first round in those meet middle areas, I fell apart. I did awful completely? Yeah. Um I hate Vandy, um, but I have to pick them. So uh Nebraska has never won an NCAA tournament game ever, but neither has Troy. So they're playing uh each other in this round, obviously. It's a 4-13.
