In this episode of Abundant Funnels, Jayne takes you behind the scenes of a recent launch that generated just over $100,000 in sales from an ad spend of around $7,100. She breaks down the real strategy behind the result and explains why it was not about a magical ad, a secret targeting trick or overnight success.

Jayne shares how the launch was structured around a live masterclass funnel, why the majority of the ad budget went into promoting the masterclass rather than selling the program directly, and how reminder, replay and focused sales campaigns supported the wider strategy. She also explains the importance of the months of audience building and trust building that happened before launch, the role of detailed messaging research, how three specific buyer personas shaped the ads and why being willing to pay more for the right lead made sense in this context.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Why this was not a six-figure launch because of one ad.
  • How the masterclass funnel was structured across multiple time zones.
  • Why reminder and replay campaigns mattered so much.
  • Why the sales ads were kept highly focused rather than broad.
  • How months of audience building and lead generation supported the launch.
  • Why messaging research made such a difference.
  • How specific buyer personas shaped the ad strategy.
  • Why context matters more than chasing the cheapest cost per lead.
  • Why perfection is not what drives results. Progress does.
  • What Jayne would already improve for the next launch.

I'm Jane Day and welcome to Abundant Funnels. I help coaches, course creators, and online experts get high quality leads and consistent sales without relying on guesswork, constant content creation, or $10 leads. In fact, I'm known for getting some of the best cost per lead results for quality buyers in the industry. This show is where we break down the ad strategy, the funnel, and the numbers so you can grow your revenue and buy back your time in a way that's actually sustainable. Let's get started. Hi there and welcome back to the podcast. I'm Jane Day and I'm so glad you're here listening in today. In this episode, I want to do something a little different. I want to take you behind the scenes of a recent launch that generated just over $100,000 in sales with an ad spend of around $7,100. Now I don't know about you but I always love hearing these types of stories or case studies. I love understanding what happened behind the scenes, what strategy was used, what worked, what didn't work, and what lessons I can take away and apply to my own business. So that's exactly what I want to share with you today. And before we dive in, I want to make one thing really clear. This isn't a story about a magic ad. It's not about some secret targeting strategy. It's not about a clever trick that suddenly generated six figures overnight. What made this launch successful was a combination of strong messaging, a clear strategy, consistent marketing, and a well-structured funnel. The client I am talking about sells a seven-month training program priced at just under $3,500. There was also an opportunity for people to work with her in a higher level capacity, which was an upsell on this program. To sell the program, we used a masterclass funnel. The masterclass was delivered live three separate times across different time zones because we were serving a global audience. We were targeting people in Australia, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, the UK and the United States. And one thing I think is important to mention here is that we weren't trying to reinvent the wheel. The strategy itself was actually quite simple. The majority of the advertising budget went into promoting the masterclass. The goal wasn't to sell the program directly from the ads. The goal was to get the right people registered for the masterclass and then let the masterclass do the heavy lifting, which the client is great at delivering. Alongside the masterclass ads, we also ran a reminder campaign to people who had already registered. We wanted to maximize attendance because if someone registers but doesn't show up live to the masterclass, they're obviously much less likely to buy. The best chance of selling is live on that masterclass. We also ran a replay campaign for people who did miss attending the live training. And then once the offer opened, we ran a sales campaign directly to people who had been through the masterclass funnel. Now this part is important. We didn't target the client's entire warm audience with the sales ads, and the reason being the offer was positioned at a higher level than previous offers she had sold. Because of that, we knew that the people most likely to purchase would be the people who had recently attended the masterclass and resonated with the messaging. The client did email her broader database about the offer, but from an advertising perspective, we kept the sales campaign highly focused. One of the reasons I believe this launch performed so well is because the launch didn't start when the ads went live. The groundwork had been happening for months beforehand. The client consistently runs audience building and lead generation campaigns throughout the year. She is always bringing new people into her world. She is always growing her audience. She is always building her email list. So when it came time to promote the masterclass, we weren't starting from scratch. We already had a warm audience. She had already had trust and authority in her niche. She already had momentum. And this is something I see business owners overlook. They want to launch something and expect the launch itself to do all the work. But the best launches are often the result of what happens months before the launch even begins. Another thing this client did exceptionally well was research. Before launching, she spent time talking to her ideal clients. She wanted to understand exactly what they were struggling with, what they wanted, what they were frustrated by, what outcomes they were looking for, and what language they were using to describe their problems. That research became the foundation of the messaging for the entire launch. And if you've listened to this podcast for any length of time, you'll know how passionate I am about messaging because messaging really is everything. When your audience reads your landing page, your emails, your social media posts, or your ads, you want them to feel like you're inside their head. You want them thinking, that's exactly what I've been experiencing, or that's exactly what I've been trying to figure out. That's when people pay attention. I've worked with this particular client for several years now, so I already have a strong understanding of her audience, her brand voice, and what typically resonates with her community. Before we launched these ads, I reviewed all of her messaging research and I looked carefully at what the offer was that she was selling. From there I developed three very specific buyer personas that represented the ideal people for the program. These weren't broad audience groups, they were very specific types of people with specific goals, frustrations, challenges, and desires. And then I built the ad messaging around those personas. Every ad wasn't trying to speak to everyone. Each ad was speaking directly to one particular type of buyer. And I think this is one of the biggest mistakes I see in advertising. People try to create one ad that appeals to everybody. The problem is when you try to speak to everyone, you end up speaking to no one. Specificity wins every time. Now let's talk some numbers. The cost per lead for the masterclass came in at just under $8 cost per lead. And to be completely honest with you, that's a little higher than I would ideally like. But here's where context matters. I wasn't trying to get the cheapest lead possible. I was trying to attract the right lead. And there's a big difference. I knew the messaging was highly specific. I knew we were targeting a very particular type of buyer. And I knew the offer sat at a higher price point. Because of that, we were comfortable paying a little more for a lead if it meant attracting the right person. In total, we generated just over 800 leads directly from the ads. Combined with organic marketing and the client's existing email database, there were more than 1,000 registrations for the masterclass. And that ultimately translated into a launch that generated over $100,000 in revenue, a six-figure launch. When it came to the ads themselves, we tested a mixture of static images and face-to-camera videos. Interestingly, most of the winning ads were image-based, although there was one video that performed exceptionally well. This is another good reminder that we should never assume what will work best. We need to test it. Let the data tell you what's going to work. For the reminder campaigns, replay campaign, and the sales campaign, we only used image ads. Not because that's what I would necessarily recommend, simply because the client wasn't able to create additional video content in time for the campaign. If we had more video assets available, I absolutely would have loved to test them as well. And that's another lesson from this launch. Not everything has to be perfect to get good results. I think sometimes business owners delay launching because they're waiting for everything to be perfect. The perfect video, the perfect funnel, the perfect sales page, the perfect email sequence, the perfect ad. But perfection isn't what drives results, progress does. One area we're already looking at improving for the next launch is the masterclass registration page. The conversion rate on that page was around 17%. And so there's definitely room for improvement there. And even a relatively small increase in conversion rate could significantly reduce the cost per lead and increase overall results. That's one of the things I love about launches. There's always something to learn. There's always something to optimize. There's always another opportunity to improve next time. So if I was to summarize the biggest lessons from this launch, they would be do your messaging research. Understand your audience deeply. Build specific buyer personas and be really clear on them. Don't try to speak to everyone. Keep your campaign structure simple. Test different creative formats. And build your audience and be genuine in your trust building with that audience well before you are ready to launch. And remember that not everything has to be perfect to achieve great results. At the end of the day, this wasn't a six-figure launch because of one ad. It was a six-figure launch because every piece of the marketing ecosystem worked together. The messaging, the masterclass, the ads, the emails, the organic content, the audience building, the trust that had been built over time, that's what created the result. And that's exactly why I always teach that ads are just one piece of the puzzle. They're an incredibly powerful piece, but they work best when they're supporting a bigger strategy.
