SPEAKER_02

You're watching The Last Stand with Brian Custer. That's right. It is the last stand. We bring you the biggest names in the sport. And joining me today is one of the biggest when you talk about not only in stature, but the 154-pound division. He is the reigning defending WBC, super welterweight champion of the world, the towering inferno, Sebastian Fundora is back with us on the last stand. What's up, champ? Welcome back to the last stand. Thank you for having me. Thank you for having me. It's always a great time. Okay, so look, March 28th, Keith Thurman, originally scheduled for last October, but now it's going down. Pay-per-view. Tell everybody out of everybody at 154 why Keith Thurman.

SPEAKER_00

He's a former champion, uh, future Hall of Famer, in my opinion, but uh it's good for resume, you know. It's good. Uh we fought Sue, uh former champion as well. Uh, so let's let's keep that momentum going with all these guys.

SPEAKER_02

So we had Keith Thurman on the last stand. And he had a lot to say, obviously, about the fight. Uh, you know, he kind of intimated, hey, I don't know if the injury was real, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. You know, and that's how he is. But talking about the fight, and he said, quote, uh, the legs still got movement in them. He's going to be surprised when I use them. And then I sit right in the pocket, expose his flaws with my tricks, and chop him down with this one-time power I still have. Uh, your response to, I guess, his game plan against you.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, I expect the best, Thurman. I expect the Thurman that that beat Danny Garcia, you know. Uh, will we see it? I don't know, but uh, I expect the best from him. And with that, I bring I'm bringing my best as a champion I am, and uh, it's gonna be a great night of boxing.

SPEAKER_02

He's talked a lot, said a lot, and it kind of reminds me of the Tim second Tim Zoo fight where you just lit sat there listened. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. And then you came out and oh my god, you put it on him. Is that kind of what we're gonna see on March 28th again? You come out again and just put it on, Keith Thurman.

SPEAKER_00

That's that's the plan. That's the plan. You know, uh, this is her business. You could talk all you want, but at the end of the day, we have to go under and punch each other in the face. So that's what I plan on doing.

SPEAKER_02

Now, can you tell us exactly what happened for the fight to be postpole? What happened to your hand? Because you know, you always hear fighters say, hey, look, you know, I'm good now. It was the best camp ever. And then after the fight, they're like, Well, you know, I could have I could have canceled it again. It really wasn't healed, blah, blah, blah. What happened? It it will it have any effect on fight night?

SPEAKER_00

No, uh, my my hands actually do feel 100% now. Um, you know, it's just uh injuries happen in sports. You know, we we we we hit something wrong or or whatever the case it was, whatever. But uh uh we got some uh hand contortions and on both hands too. It made it completely just not possible to have that fight in October. But uh, we've been training, we we didn't stop training, we just had to slow down on certain things with our hands. But uh uh we're ready, we're ready now for March.

SPEAKER_02

So I was looking over my fighter notes from your last fight that you had with Tim Zoo, and you said this. I've got a quote because I wrote I wrote it down as you said it to me. I'm gonna let him do all the talking because once the bell rings, I will shut him up because silence is violence. Can you explain to the people does what does that mean? And will the same apply to Keith Thurman?

SPEAKER_00

Well, I I think uh the words itself, you can understand what it means. You know, um we're not too much of a big talker. Uh I don't think so, at least. But when we get into a ring, we we we want to hurt you. We want to hurt you. Again, this is the herd business. You know, you got to go in there and hurt the opponent, and that's what the people want to see. That's what's entertaining about boxing. You know, you want to see whose rest whose rooster is stronger, whose rooster is gonna win this fight. And uh, I think I have the better rooster in this one as well. So, you know, we plan on doing the same thing too, Thurman.

SPEAKER_02

Give me, can you give me the one thing that you think maybe Keith Thurman is underestimating about you? Because he's talked a lot. Feels like he's got the better power, he's got the better skills, the better experience. Give me the one thing that you think he's like, you know what? He's underestimating me uh in this aspect, and what is that?

SPEAKER_00

I think I think he doesn't think we're mature enough to be in the ring with him, as in like not experience-wise. And then I mean, I've been boxing all my whole life as well, so it's not just like I just came in, uh uh, I started fighting on TV, and that was my first fight with PVC. No, it did not, it there was a lot before that. And and I think a lot of people think that that we just blasted on the scene because we're tall and and and it just happened for us. No, Rome wasn't building one day, you know, and it's the same thing for Sebastian Fondura.

SPEAKER_02

Um, I remember at one point, I think it maybe have been the Booker fight that you had. Uh Errol Spence had got into the ring, I think, afterwards, and it was talk like, yo, Sebastian Fondura, Errol Spence Jr., this is gonna be his return fight. What happened with that?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know what happened with that. I don't know. We were excited for the fight. Uh uh I I I I I wanted that fight as well. But uh uh a weird uh a year went by. Spence still hasn't stepped into the ring uh as of now as well, but uh, you know, we never got uh to get that match.

SPEAKER_02

Interesting. Uh so now Arrow Spence is coming back and going to fight Tim Zoo, and they're targeting June and Australia. What do you think about that fight?

SPEAKER_00

What do you think who do who do you think wins that fight? Yeah, I think with with Tim and these past losses, I think, you know, uh uh um there's questions there. There's questions there about what he's gonna do with a another top-level fighter. Uh, he did have his win in December, but uh it wasn't at that level. And then with Spence, Spence has been out for I think three years. So, you know, it that's that's I think that's even a bigger red flag for me. So um I favor Sue because even though he had those losses, he still had the momentum in fighting, being in the ring, being comfortable in the ring, and being uh on that big stage where Spence hasn't been since Crawford fight, you know, and Spence is still a superstar, Spence is still the you know, the big fish, right? But uh but uh you know you have to stay you have to stay in this sport to be in this sport, I think.

SPEAKER_02

So at one point you were the unified champ. I mean, let's be honest, you only uh basically vacated the WBA belt. That's I mean, it's not like anybody took it from you, but now all of a sudden everybody's talking about Xander Zayas, the unified champ. Everyone's talking about Boots, Virgil Ortiz, these guys don't even have a belt. But they're saying, oh, those are two of the best fighters at 154. Um, you know, Errol Spitz is coming back, uh, Jamel Charlot all of a sudden now wants to come back at 154. Josh Kelly is now a champion at 154. It's almost like they forgot Sebastian Foundora. Is he her and he's a champion? Do you feel disrespected?

SPEAKER_00

I don't feel disrespected. You know, everybody has their own opinions on this sport, on who they like, you know. It's just maybe it's the fact that I don't talk too much or whatever, that uh it's uh uh easy to not to forget because I don't think I'm forget forgetful. I still think I am the best 154-pounder uh on on the top of the list. It's just you know, opinions are in sports, you know, and that's uh uh some people think LeBron James is the best player, some people think Michael Jordan is the best player. Well, you know, I'm here to say that I am, so it's just that's it's just people's opinions.

SPEAKER_02

And let's be honest, it I gotta ask this question. Do you believe 154 is the best division in boxing? And are you the best fighter at 154?

SPEAKER_00

I do think it's the most exciting right now. You know, it's uh plenty of players in this in this division, uh uh with the champions and and then the people in the top 10 as well. But I I do definitely think I am the best 154. Tell me why. I mean, I I think I have the best resume. The best resume. I've been in this division this whole time. It's not like I just had two fights and and um and now I'm recognized as the best. Or, you know, it's just no, I've been inside this ring with all the 154s, I think. Uh uh, I mean, we're missing a couple, but we're ready for those guys too.

SPEAKER_02

Why doesn't anyone ever call out Sebastian Fondor?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. I don't know. Usually uh uh I mean I kind of do know, but uh uh it's just an awkward fight, I guess. Too much uh uh uh uh I mean we're we have a title now, so I I wouldn't say it's no no reward anymore, but uh uh it's it's it's a it's a big risk, I guess.

SPEAKER_02

Uh so give me, I and I know you've been at 154 for a while. There's gotta be like a fight. And I've certainly I know you're not looking past Thurman, but there's gotta be a fight where you know, because people are like, oh, I've been waiting for boots and Ortiz to fight. I've been waiting for this and that. There's gotta be somebody you've been feigning to get into the ring with. Who who is that? Who is that mega fight that Sebastian Fandor has been waiting for?

SPEAKER_00

There's all kinds of names. Like you said, Spence is coming back. That's still a fight I would want. Uh uh um we have the other champions. We have uh uh um Josh Kelly, and we also have uh Xander Zaya. So I I would like to have all the belts as well. But you know, these are our are just ideas right now. We can't really think too much on it until we pass Keith Thurman.

SPEAKER_01

Well, what's your ultimate goal? Do you want to be undisputed, or what's your ultimate goal in the ring?

SPEAKER_00

There wasn't there was uh uh uh uh uh uh uh an idea of becoming undisputed one at one time, but as of right now, it it it's so much politics, you know. Look with the with the last with the W. I was already unified champion, but all these things that that don't line up with us, it you know, you can't. It's a business as well. It's a business as well. So if you're not gonna work with me, I can't really work with you either. So uh I'll fire all these guys and I'll fight them all, and they can keep their belt right after I beat them. But it's it's uh uh uh I'm comfy with the WBC. I still think I'm recognized as the best. Uh, I think I'm the best. So, you know, let's just make these mega fights.

SPEAKER_02

Uh Jamel Charlo went on social media, and you were one of the guys that he put on there. He called you food. Uh, I guess what's your response to Jamel Charlo?

SPEAKER_00

We were we both are PBC fighters, so that's a fight that I've been wanting as well. I remember when he was undisputed. We were the after we beat Lubin, uh um, we were the number one for the WBC. We were mandatory, but uh that fight never happened. So, but we're ready. We're ready for him as well.

SPEAKER_02

Um, your sister, Gabriella, youngest ever, undisputed flyweight champion, world champion. You two made history only brothers, sisters, uh, to be current uh world champion uh simultaneously. She's on the pound for pound list right now. Your baby sis. When it's all said and done, what do you think the sports is going to be saying about Gabby Fundora?

SPEAKER_00

I think they're gonna recognize her as one of the best female fighters, one of the best fighters of this era. You know, she's she's such a uh uh a talent, you know. And then we have I have another little sister coming up, and she's only 11 years old, but you can already see, like I tell my dad all the time, she's a genius. She's a genius. She's the way she hits, she hits hard, she hits these girls hard. Before, in the amateurs, at least I would think so. Like 11-year-old, 12-year-old, you can't really knock out anybody. You don't have the power to do those things. I think my little sister can knock another little girl out. I really think that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Oh fuck. Has Gabby surprised you at all what she has done so early in her career?

SPEAKER_00

Not as professional, because I seen her as amateur do all these things. Not that I'm surprised, because I seen her grow. I seen her do these things. But when she came out and became the IBF champ and became undisputed, it was just like me sitting back with my dad and be like, I told you, I told you. I remember uh uh uh when we still would do boxing on Showtime and they were asking about my personal life, and I would mention my sister all the time. Like, she's coming, she's coming, and everybody's like, Yeah, yeah, okay, whatever, yeah. But then she made it to the scene, and now she's here, the top one of the top fighters, and and everybody's like, Oh, yeah, you're right. Yeah, I told you so. You did you did, and you're absolutely right.

SPEAKER_02

You did tell us that. Is there one thing? I mean, obviously, she should probably learn a lot from you. Give me something maybe you've learned from her that you've incorporated into your game.

SPEAKER_00

There's all kinds of things, there's all kinds of things. Her being southpaw as well. Uh uh, um, you know, you can see certain moves, like, okay, that would work for me. I get I get things from my 11-year-old sister. So she's sopaw as well. So there's if you're in a boxing ring, if you're watching sparring all the time, you're watching the fights. That's why I go to her fights all the all the time as well. Uh, it's mental homework as well. You know, you you you you can learn certain things from here and there, anything from just uh uh um human reaction, but you know that that's something you can use in the ring.

SPEAKER_02

Uh lastly, here, uh, you know, Keith Thurman's talked a lot about chopping you down. Is this one of those fights? Obviously, as you talked about, it's great to put on the resume, but it is one of these fights where you're like, I'm gonna be honest with you, I'm going out to stop this guy.

SPEAKER_00

Of course, of course. But you know, you have to have that mindset. A lot of people say you don't look for the knockout. You have to, you have to think about it at least, though. You know, you like you cannot not envision it and expect it to come out. You have to really think about these things, how you want to go out there and trust those skills you have to go and do it. So, yeah, I plan on going in there and hurting him. But that's just like every other fighter I fought.

SPEAKER_02

Lastly, here, uh, what should Keith Thurman, what should the people expect on March 28th when you step into the ring with him?

SPEAKER_00

Expect what you guys always expect a firefight, uh, uh, uh, uh, an exciting fight from Fondora, whether it's bloody or all act impact, but expect the best from Sebastian Fondora March 28th. Listen, I can't wait.

SPEAKER_02
