Oh, he put me a timer up here.

SPEAKER_00

That's recording you. Oh, okay. That's evidence for later Tim.

SPEAKER_01

I thought it was a timer telling me when to stop.

No.

SPEAKER_01

It's it's good to be back tonight, and I have loved being here this week. Um I always preach at my church, New Hope, and Mercer County, and and since I've been there, I don't get out much. And it's just been a blessing to get to be here with you this week and and uh to see if there were some people that surprised me with their visits, and and that was encouraging. And it's good to see Brother Dan Guttenson. I don't think he remembers me because it's been a long, long time ago. But uh I was part of the association from 2004 till 2000 and I don't know, nine maybe. And uh and Dan was one of my favorites. He didn't know that, but he was one of my favorites in the association, and uh it's just good to see him tonight. And when you're young and a young preacher, you look at older preachers and you just put them up on a little pedestal a little bit, and there was a few guys here in Lincoln County that that uh did that, and I thought they were from Casey County, but but you know, where God dwells. But that's a joke. I do love Lincoln County, and you know, God's everywhere. And uh we can we can be here, we can be in Mercer County, and you can even go to places in the world where it seems like Christianity has no voice, but God's there, and uh and he speaks to us. Uh this week we uh have looked at the benefits of the gospel, and uh tonight we're gonna complete that uh series, and like I said, there are many, many benefits of the gospel. Uh don't use the gospel like I do my AARP membership. Use the benefits. Use the don't just don't just say I have have it and never use it. Use the benefits of the gospel. And some of you older folks, if there's benefits that's worthy, let me know because I'm not going to take time to read all that stuff. I'm just going to pay the membership. So uh if you have your Bibles, turn with me this evening to 1 Peter chapter 1. And while you're looking for your place in 1 Peter chapter 1, I just want to check on something. Let me see. I think it's still there. I'm gonna check. Romans 8 1 says, There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus. Yeah. It's still there. There's no condemnation now. That was the same thing 15 to 7 last night, right? We'll look at it first. It'll be there tomorrow too, I promise. So tonight, if you have your Bibles, turn to 1 Peter 1, and we're going to read verses 3 through 5. Let's stand showing reverence to the reading of God's holy word. 1 Peter 1 3 says, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time. Let's pray. Father, we thank you for your word, and we thank you, Heavenly Father, that we've got to come and worship together this week with the folks here at Mount Hebron Baptist Church. I'm I'm thankful for the pastor, Brother Jimmy and Jennifer. And Lord, I love them, and Lord, I thank you, Father, for them. Wonderful brothers and sisters in Christ and their family. And Heavenly Father, they don't know it, but many times in the morning, they're they're two of the people I pray for on a nearly daily basis. And dear God, I just pray, dear God, that you will just overshadow them and use them here at Mount Hebron. And dear God, just bless this church out here, God, and and just uh I pray, Lord, that you'll truly work revival in the hearts of those that are here this week. And and Lord, that it will be something that will last in the days and weeks to come. And Heavenly Father, that you will just uh be it uh be the one to encourage and edify your people and that you would convict the lost and draw them to Christ here in this place. In Jesus' name, amen. You may be seated. This morning or morning, I'm used to preaching in the morning all the time. This evening's message is titled Hopeful The Benefit of a Certain Future. The benefit of a certain future. Over the past few messages, we have seen the incredible benefits of the gospel. Just as a reminder, Sunday morning we looked at the benefit of being justified, being declared righteous, having a cleared record. And then Sunday night we looked at that wonderful benefit of the gospel, adoption. And we are adopted into a new family. And then we looked at a changed life. We're transformed in Christ. And then we looked at last night our security, uh kept salvation. That's a benefit of the gospel. And tonight we come to the final and glorious truth, the gospel that gives you a certain future. And we live in a world that's full of uncertainty. Health is uncertain, finances are uncertain. The future of this world is uncertain. But for the child of God, your future is not uncertain. For the child of God, your future is guaranteed. And for the child of God, the source of our hope is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. First Peter 1:3 here says that he hath begotten us unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. What kind of hope is this? Well, it's a lively hope. It's not a dead hope. It's not wishful thinking, but it's a living, active, certain hope. Why is our hope living? Well, it's simple. Jesus is alive. That's why it's living. If Christ were still in the grave, our hope would be empty. If Christ was still in the grave, our faith would be vain. But we just celebrated Easter just a few weeks ago, a couple weeks ago, he rose again. Most hope in this world sounds like this. Well, I sure hope things get better. I sure hope things get better. That's right. Well, I hope it works out. You know what? That's uncertainty. But biblical hope is not like that. Biblical hope is different. Biblical hope is not an I hope so. Biblical hope is an I know so. That's right. So it's a big difference. John MacArthur says biblical hope is not a wish, it is a certainty anchored in the promises of God. That's true. And the next thing I want us to think of is the nature of our future. It's an incorruptible inheritance. First Peter 1 4 says, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you. Notice how Peter describes this inheritance. He says it's incorruptible. It cannot be destroyed. This inheritance cannot be destroyed. And guess what? It cannot decay. Everything in this world wears out. But not what God has prepared for you. Everything in this world wears out. Now everybody says I get prettier with age. No, nobody's actually ever said that, but I've been wondering, I've been wondering who is going to be the first. This body is wearing out. But I have a glorified body according to Scripture. That's part of my inheritance, and it won't wear out. Ain't that good news? Ain't that a benefit? So this is an incorruptible inheritance, and then it's an undefiled inheritance. It's undefiled. It is untouched by sin. Do you know what's wrong with everything in this world? This world that God created. In the beginning, when God created everything that He created, He created it good. But do you know what happened? Sin entered into the world. This world is under a curse. That's why everything in this world dies because man sent. But this inheritance, this future hope, is untouched by sin. There's no sorrow, no stain. It's undefiled. We can't even understand what that will be like because everything that we see is touched by sin. And because of that, we have great sorrow. And then the Bible says also about this inheritance. It says that it fadeth not away. It will never lose its beauty. It will never diminish in value. Think about everything people work for in this life. We work for houses and they deteriorate. We work for cars and they still break down. We work for our bodies, but our bodies grow weak. And then our wealth disappears. Y'all ever live that? But what God has prepared for his people, what God has prepared for his people will never fade, will never fail, and will never end.

SPEAKER_00

That's right.

SPEAKER_01

Ain't that good? Jonathan Edwards said the enjoyment of God is the only happiness with which our souls can be satisfied. The enjoyment of God is the only happiness in which our souls can be satisfied. I say this all the time at New Hope, where I pastored. If I was the poorest person in the world and I had to live under a bridge to get shelter, but I still had God, I'd be richer than anybody in the world. And I believe that. A reservation. To any place you could go in this world. It's an eternal reservation. It's an inheritance that is reserved for you. And listen to this. You are kept for this inheritance. Not only is heaven kept for you, but you're kept for heaven. Heaven is kept for you, but you're kept for heaven. That connects with what we talked about last night. We're kept by the power of God. That's where our security is. You remember? We're in Christ's hand, we're in the Father's hand, we're doubly secure. We are a priceless treasure. We look at each other and we can see all of our spots and blemishes here in this life. You know what? Sometimes Christians have a hard time getting along. Because we think we all know it all. And if somebody's not living up to our standard of what we know, well, we sometimes have a hard time with them. But let me tell you, we need to be careful because if you're a valuable treasure that belongs to God, and they're a valuable treasure that belongs to God, we should both look at each other with value. And let me break something to you. You don't know it all. And the older I get as a Christian, the more I realize that I don't know much. Oh, I remember when I started grasping this theme of theology and that theme of theology, and and oh man, I knew it all. But let me tell you something, God's bigger than any of our theological systems. I'm not telling you not to not to study and pursue theology and to learn and grow. Study God till you see him, learn him, know him, but never get over the fact, never get over the fact that it's all about Jesus. That's right. Period. Amen. And if Jesus died for you and he died for them that you don't like, you need to learn how to get along. That's right. Because you're going to be together in heaven. And it's a sure thing because they're a priceless treasure to him. You're a priceless treasure to him. They're secured in a vault. Christ's hand. Father's hand. And let me tell you something. No man can pluck us from his hand, you know why? Because we're guarded constantly by the sovereign Lord of everything. Now imagine this. Not only is this treasure secure, the treasure of heaven, but the person who will receive it is also protected every step of the way. You're protected. You know what? There's days that you feel like you're so close to Christ. You feel you feel that holy presence? You know that sense of security. Did you know you're protected at those times? But what about those days that you get upset at work? And even if you don't say it out loud, you might cuss a little bit down in your heart. Why that blankety blank jerk? I'm being Christian here, you know. You're happy you have them days. If you say you don't have them days, you come and talk to me and help me out. Because there's times that Tim Brown gets upset. I may have got upset on the way here because somebody criticized my driving. I'm not going to say that happen. I've been praying for them. That they get their heart right. We get upset. You know what? This flesh has been crucified with Christ. This old nature that we have truly is crucified with Christ. It truly has been nailed with to the cross, but we're still walking around in this body until the Lord takes us out. Well, so what about those days that we find ourselves doing those things we hate? You're still being kept, and the treasure's still being kept. The believer's future is guarded by God. Thank God that it's guarded by God. Because if I was The one to guard the security and the and the preservation of that place, guess what? I wouldn't have a chance. You're not trying to hold on to get to heaven. I'm not against holding on. I'm not against holding on. I'm okay with my daughter holding on to my hand. If we're going across a busy street, she needs to hold on to my hand. But she's not going to get away because I'm holding on to her hand. So it is important to want to hold on to God's hand. It's important to want to hold on. And I'm not against telling people to hold on a little longer. That's okay. But don't base your salvation, don't base your going to heaven on how well you hold on, because it's how well God holds on. Whether you go to heaven or not. Heaven is being held for you. And you're being held for it. That's good news. Ain't that a benefit of the gospel? The effect of our hope. The effect of our hope is strength that we have in present suffering. This is real life. Brothers and sisters, we have to live here until the Lord takes us home. And you know what? He wants us to be here until he takes us home. Because he has a purpose for us here. And the purpose is to spread the gospel. The purpose is to shine for Jesus. You know, we are the light of Christ in the world. So the effect of our hope, the strength of our present suffering, life is not easy. You know what? Sometimes you hear preachers give an invitation to people to come to Jesus, and it almost seems like that whenever the preacher gives that invitation for somebody to come to Jesus, it almost seems like they're telling people that everything's going to be fine and dandy. There's going to be no more struggles, no going to be no more problems. Everything's going to be good once you say that prayer and come to Jesus. But that's not been my experience. I come to Jesus and I still find times of suffering. Loss. Y'all ever experienced that? Romans 8.18 says, For I reckon, see, I told you Casey County. Casey County's God's country. That's where they got that from. I reckon. Y'all say it in Lincoln? Well, maybe, maybe Lincoln's a distant relative. Listen to this. Romans 8.18 says, For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. We suffer. We suffer. But our suffering should not take us farther away from God. Our suffering, if it does anything, should make us look forward to what God has in store for us. My mother died in 2016, January 2016. I'm not sure about her salvation. She was in and out of church throughout my life. Avery has her first name as her middle name, Catherine. And as a Christian, not being sure about my mother, there was suffering. Doubt, worry. But you know what? I did her funeral. And when I did her funeral, I looked for everything I could look for, giving me hope that she's saved and going to be in heaven. And I don't know if she's going to be in heaven or not. That's suffering. But I'll tell you this I know we serve a good God.

SPEAKER_00

That's right.

SPEAKER_01

And I know that God will do everything exactly the way it needs to be done. And I believe that whenever I stand before him, I will glorify him and praise him because he is wiser than any man that we could ever think of. Whatever God does is good. And I'll tell you something: all the suffering, the worry, the fretting, and the doubts and the troubles of this world, they're going to mean nothing when we stand in the presence of the glory of a wonderful, sovereign, mighty God like our Lord. Everything in this life, brothers and sisters, is temporary. She died when she was sixty years old. And I got to thinking, I'm fifty. You know what? One out of one dies. Everybody dies. We never know when we're going to go to the doctor, and the doctor's gonna say, You got something I can't fix. You never know when you're gonna go to work, and the employer says, You can't come back. You never know when those things are gonna happen. But I'll tell you this according to the word of God, the steps of the righteous man are ordered by the Lord. And wherever you're at in life, God is still there working out everything He's working out, and He's giving you strength to face each day. The Bible tells us to pray for our daily bread. And I'll tell you, God's gonna give you what you need every single day. Do you know if a child has to have surgery for whatever reason? I think of my daughter Michaela, she's had to have surgery, two surgeries on each of her ears, and they'd have to cut them out, cut them off literally, lay them on the side of her face, go in and do some work. She had two surgeries on two different ears. She wears hearing aids and all that. But I knew the surgery was going to help her. So when a child is going through surgery, they may cry in the moment. But guess what? The parent knows that there's something better coming. That's right. And that's the way it is with God. There's something better coming. What you're going through now, it may make you cry for the moment. It may be hard for the moment, but God has got something better for you. Do you know the angels can't sing songs of redemption? Everybody talks about how well the angels sing, but oh, I believe there'll be a host of saints in heaven that'll be singing a song of redemption that God's ears will rejoice in hearing more than any angel of. Good singing all week long. I shouldn't say this out loud because I'm gonna puff up heads. But I love to hear my wife sing. Amen. Because she's my wife. And plus, she does have a very pretty voice. But imagine what it's gonna be like when the Lord hears the voice of his bride in a glorified body. Oh, I don't think he's gonna be too concerned about the angels' voices. They'll be backup singers. So hope gives us strength to endure. You can keep going. You can keep going because this is not the end. I believe that God's people are preserved in Christ. But I believe because God's people are preserved in Christ, that God's people endure, God's people persevere, God's people keep on going. You know what? And that's what's a testimony to a lot of people in the world because they wonder how a Christian can keep going after they've gone through what they've gone through. How do you keep on going, brother or sister? Oh, it's because I know what's coming. And I know what we're going through here. It's going to pass. This is not the end.

unknown

True.

SPEAKER_01

Amen. There's strength to endure. Hope gives us that. Hope gives us perspective in trials. This world is not your home.

unknown

True.

SPEAKER_01

You're just a passing through.

unknown

True.

SPEAKER_01

That's what we sing, isn't it? Amen. This world is not my home. I'm just a passing through. My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue. And hope gives us joy in difficulty. Do you know that's what the devil tries to take? He can't take your soul. He can't even take your salvation. But if he can take the joy from your heart, he's had a great victory. But hope, hope gives us joy even in difficulty. Why is that? Because you know the best is yet to come. Don't, don't, didn't we learn how to sing as kids? I got that joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart. Where? Down in my heart. You don't want me to sing. We have that joy down in our heart. And hope gives us joy and difficulty. Do you know that when my mother passed away, that it seemed like a time when I would have no joy? But thinking about the times that may possibly give me some hope that she's saved, thinking about those times give me joy. And Christians don't suffer like those who aren't Christians. We grasp on to everything we can grasp a hold of, giving us hope in the darkness of this world. And God gives us joy. C.S. Lewis, which is not one of my favorite theologians, because he's not a theologian at all, but he is one of my favorite speakers, preachers, writers, because C.S. Lewis was an atheist. And whenever he was studying to try to disprove God, God opened up his heart to see him. And he has some weird things to say. I'm not going to lie about it. But he says this. This isn't weird. He says this. He said, if you read history, you will find that the Christians who did the most for the present world were those who thought most of the next. Ain't that good? Christians who thought most about heaven did more here. And you know why there's not a great move of God in the United States of America? I don't know about around the world. Because we're too earthly minded. That's right.

SPEAKER_03

Amen. Amen.

SPEAKER_01

And if we had our eyes fixed upon glory like we should, we'd probably spend more time sowing to this benefit of the gospel.

unknown

Then we do.

SPEAKER_01

We don't have time to read our Bible. You know, you know what? Let me see here. Oh, at Mount Hebrew. I'm on I'm on TV. I'm on my phone. That's the first thing popped up. There's a Mazda ad. Yeah, it's worth all these. They got a big sale. You know that. Man, what's up with all these ads? Oh, this place is higher and you need a job. Oh, I forgot. I'm preaching. You know what? That takes up so much of our time. If we spend as much time scrolling on the Facebook, watching YouTube Shorts, and I love YouTube Shorts. If we spend as much time doing all that stuff, if we spent that much time living out our hope? Man, how would God use us? And then here's the invitation. Are you ready for that future? Are you ready for eternity? Because every single person has a future, but are you ready for it? Because even though every single person has a future, and I believe you have an eternal future. I know there's this big opinion going around that some people's souls aren't eternal, but I believe that our souls are eternal. And just because you have an eternal future, not everyone has this eternal future. For those without Christ, for those who are not in Christ, for those who are not in his family, for those who have not been justified, for those who have not been changed, for those who are not secure. Eternity is an eternity that we refer to as being a separation from God. And let me tell you this: as sure as I'm standing here tonight, judgment is certain for them. And hope is absent. But for those in Christ, glory is coming, heaven is real, and eternity is secure. There's two people gets on a plane. One knows the destination is safe, the other knows it's headed for a disaster. The difference is not the ride. The difference is the destination. We're both riding this thing called life. Is your destination a secure destination? Or is it one that's going to end up in disaster? The gospel gives you a new standing before God. You're righteous. How do I know you're righteous, Jimmy Hazlet?

SPEAKER_00

Christ. I love him.

SPEAKER_01

Christ. That's it. In Christ you're declared righteous. He took your sin and gave you his righteousness. And if God says you're righteous, it don't matter what anybody else says. If God says you're righteous, you might as well stand there because you're righteous. The gospel gives you a new family. You've been adopted by God. He chose me because I was so good looking, you remember? Even though the beauty's fading, he still sees me in all my glory. No, he chooses the meek and lowly, the broken. And he adopts them. You know why you want to be a part of the family? Say, Father, will you choose me? And you'll find out he did it already. And he put you into his family. That's good. You remember I was telling you about those sheep that was out here outside of the fence? Those two sheep. They were outside the fence, but they still belong to the sheep that were inside the fence. Sometimes our sheep that's part of our family gets outside the fence. And we may not know how to get them back in. But we have a great shepherd. Amen. Amen. So we're adopted, and then we have a new life. We're changed. You can't have somebody like Christ live in you and it not make a difference. You can't be in Christ and it not affect you. We have a secure salvation. Tonight we have a certain future. We have a hope that's anchored in Jesus. That's a good hope. Revelation 21 4 says this and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain. That's where this is all headed. But this promise is only for those in Christ. So ask yourself: have you been justified, adopted, changed? Are you secure in Christ? Ask yourself that. And if you're not, I want to ask you this. Why don't you come to Him tonight? Why don't you turn from your sin in repentance? Quit trusting your ability and trust Christ and what He did on the cross. Trust that gospel benefit. And if you do, you can leave knowing that your future is settled. And your future is settled forever. I'm not going to turn back there again, but Romans 8 1, if you go check it, I bet it still says that there is therefore now no condemnation. Now or ever.

D.

SPEAKER_01

L. Moody, one of my favorite preachers. Even though he just said he was a Sunday school teacher, and some people don't like him. That's okay. They can get over it. They'll see him in heaven one day. I believe. But he says this. Now this is this is from when he was still alive a long, long time ago. But he said this. He said, Soon you will read in the papers that D.L. Moody is dead. He said, don't believe a word of it. At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now. And let me tell you, I think I can use that same statement that D. L. Moody says. People don't read it on the newspaper no more, but soon you will read on Facebook or somewhere that Tim Brown is dead. Maybe I should say T. L. Brown. That makes me sound more like a theologian. Soon you will read that T. L. Brown is dead. Don't believe a word of it. And I tell you, don't believe it. Don't believe it. Because the child of God shall never taste death. And I will be more alive when I take my last breath in this body than I've ever been the whole time I've been here. And you say, you sound confident in that. I sure do, because I have a hope that's sure as an anchor in Christ. This gospel is not just good news. This is the greatest news you will ever hear. Because Christ has forgiven your sins. And right now your present is changed. And your future is secure. These are benefits of the gospel.

unknown

Amen.

SPEAKER_01

Let's stand. Our Father, we come to you tonight thanking you, Lord, for again for this opportunity to be here this week. Lord, I thank you for this the hospitality of this congregation here at Mount Hebron. I thank you for the love and friendship I have for the pastor and his family. And Heavenly Father, I just pray, God, that you will just bless this church and bless this pastor. And Lord, I pray, God, that you will just use them, Lord, as you see fit and receive glory for all that's done here at Mount Hebron. Lord, I love you. Thank you and praise you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

SPEAKER_03

Three seventy-three at the bottom. Three seventy-three at the bottom.

SPEAKER_00

I promise I'm not gonna preach. I promise. I'm gonna let you sit though, because I may talk more than thirty seconds. I don't want your legs to get tired. I just want to say what a wonderful week this has been. I know you've heard me say that multiple times, but I couldn't be more thrilled with what God has done here at Mount Hebron Baptist Church. Uh I'm certain that he's worked in your heart and in your mind through the word of God. But he's worked in mine. I can tell you that. It's been an extreme encouragement for me. Uh, one of the blessings of revival for a pastor is you get to sit back and be fed from the word. And it is such a blessing to be able to hear wonderful biblical preaching. Um the other thing I want to say is this, and I hope that you find it an encouragement. I think about who all's been here this week. I think about who all's here tonight. And I want to say this, and this is not in any way a knock on what other churches do, because I don't do that. I don't think it's beneficial or helpful. But I want to give glory to God because I look across the congregation and I see teenagers here, I see young people here. What you don't know, Cora, is it okay if I talk about you for just a minute? You give me permission? Okay, very good. And she's told her Mimi, I want to go to church. You need to get me to church. Yesterday, she wanted to come, and of course, Mimi was tied up with Mr. Sea Turtle back there at UK Hospital. Mimi couldn't get her here. She said, Can the preacher come and get me and take me to church? Cora says, She wants a Bible. So we got her a Bible on order, and it's going to be here tomorrow, Cora. But when I see a little nine-year-old girl who has a desire, and I see teenagers like Matthew and Natalie and Gracie that have a desire to come and hear the word of God. And I see Miss Maddie, who's been here. Well, she's here every time the doors are open, pretty much, but she's been here all week this week. And Maddie, I'm so proud of you for coming to Revival. And I see these Henri Hazlitt kids, and I think about Renee's kids that have been here several days this week. I I listen, we don't have any big water slides out here. We don't have a car hanging from a crane like I've seen before at certain places, a giveaway trying to lure people in the building. We don't have a magician or a juggler to come up here and do funny stuff. Well, me and Tim are kind of funny.

SPEAKER_04

You are joking back.

SPEAKER_00

You're not joking. That's all right. But here's what we do have. Here's what we do have. Listen to me. I I want I want this church to hear me so clearly, in case you didn't know before, I have no interest in competing with this world when it comes to entertainment. Zero. I don't care to ever make this church look like a sky zone. I I don't care to ever, uh I saw on TV the other day a pastor rode in on a roller coaster. Now that would be a feat, wouldn't it? How ridiculous. We don't, all we have that makes little girls like Cora and Maddie and Ellie and Avery, that makes teenagers, who most of whom probably look at us and go, y'all are the weirdest bunch of people in the world. All we have is the word of God. This is not a place of worldly entertainment. This is a place where people can come and hear the word of God. That is what we have, and that is what we do. And let me tell you something, friends. What we win people with is what we win them to. And we have a desire to win people with the gospel of Jesus. Amen. But I'm so encouraged by that. When I see kids like Eli say, I'm gonna go hang out with those people at Mount Hebron Baptist Church. You know what that is? That's Jesus. That's Jesus. And I'm so thankful for what God is doing right here at Mount Hebron Baptist Church. Amen?

SPEAKER_02
