In this episode, Pastors Luke Evans and Devon Patton reflect on YA Conference weekend, talking about the incredible hunger this generation has for God, the power of biblical community, and what they witnessed throughout the weekend.
What's up? Good day to you. That was nice. Nice. Good recovery. We don't say that enough to be. Good day. Good day. Good day. Good eye. Good day, sir. I got something for you. Jump right into it. Love that for us. 14 seconds in. I heard this take this week. All right. I loved it. I'm willing to do that. I would like your thoughts on it. Don't be that guy and just not disagree automatically to troll. I would never be that guy. Right? You are that guy. There we go. Spence. Back me up here. Spence is not here. We the in the English language that we speak. Yeah. Should be called American. I did see that. And I agree, because there's too many things that we don't say like them. We don't say. Like he just we he just said. But that could be called top of the morning to you. Like we don't talk about it. But then you'd have to call it like Mexican instead of Spanish, because theirs is a different Spanish than the same in Spain. Yeah. If they want Brazilian and Portuguese, if they want to. Yeah, but Brazilian has the same thing because there were Brazil uh Portuguese immigrants and Brazilian. That's what I mean. I'm saying is like now that they have a different Portuguese, correct? Opens the precedent. A little bit. It's a little bit different dialect. If they want to, they can. I'm saying for us as Americans, we have the Gulf of America now. We've been free for 250 years. We're top 15 in the world from the top from the tyranny of the crown. And I think that when I speak, I say different words than people in England do, and I speak American. What are some American things that they wouldn't say in Britain? What we call chips, chips. They call their French fries chips, right? French chips. It's gonna be crisp. Nobody in England is saying give me some. It's gonna be exclusively uh food because I don't know. You've been to Ireland more than they call their trunk of their car the boot. That's so talk about your list of things that don't make sense. Yeah. British words that we don't use. Write that down. You go to Ireland more than I obviously go over there. Like in McDonald's, is is it called French fries on the menu in McDonald's and Ireland, or is it called chips? No, it's probably called chips. I don't know. They probably ask, yeah, they want chips. They also have a curry sauce. Apartment is flat. Oh yeah, flat. My flat. They call cotton candy candy floss? Candy floss. Oh yeah, candy floss. Dare. Rubbish. Yeah. Garbage. Why don't you read us the British word and then we'll try to figure out jumper? Oh, it's a sweater. Would have never gotten that. Yeah. A lift. Elevator. I like this game. Game time. Game first, dude. Game time at the pet station. Petrol, obviously. The petrol station. Cell phone? Alright. Trainers. Trainers, yeah. Tennis shoes. Yeah, get your trainers on there. We're going down to the park. Sometimes I'll like mirror like your mom sometimes. Like she'll be like, hey, like, how you doing? I'm like, grind, how you doing? Oh, every time I'm like, hey Lorna, how are you? Every single time I'm like, what's the crack? What's the crack, Larn? Oh, there's one. Can't say that. I remember when I was there, they were like, uh, hey Devin, how are you? Like, have any motz? And I was like, what? Like motz? Like mozzarella? Like, and then I thought they said like gats. So I was like, gnats, like flies. Mots is like girls. Like, are you dating somebody? Like, do you have a girl, like a girlfriend? Like any motherfucker. I've heard that. I've never heard of it. I watch like Irish Irish shows. I watch a lot of British shows too. I don't think I've had that. And I always thought it was like the funniest thing when they'd be like, oh, that's deadly. Like when it's good. Yeah, and you're like, oh, that's cool. Some things they say is cool. Yeah, there's some stuff. Some things you can't repeat. No. Yeah, no. Don't translate the same. All right. That's it. Hoover? Vacuum. Oh, the vacuum. Yeah. Well, I like watching the World Cup when that like they'll say, instead of saying somebody is in shape, they'll say face is in form. Or they're in form. Yeah. Stuff like that. Like they're vacuum. I'm gonna start speaking American. If you guys want to be like, oh, he's in good form today. Good form. That and my no, me and my wife will say, like, be like, oh yeah, he's been in good form. Like size was in good good form today. The other thing, my mom, if you notice, now that I say it, you'll it'll instead of um, she says um. You'll be like, Yeah, you'll be like, like, hey Ma, like, are we gonna go like get some ice cream? She's like, um, and you're like, we say um. It's so weird, man. That's funny. Cause we speak American. Cause we speak American. American. That's what we're talking about today. There you go. American. That was my America the proud. America the beautiful. And the brave. And also Home of the Free. Land of the Brave. Obviously, two weeks later, but tough loss yesterday. What? It didn't matter. It didn't matter for anything. You're talking about for Germany. That was a tough loss. They weren't trying to win the German. Like it's still a tough loss. I know they advanced, obviously, but it didn't mean I didn't even watch it. No. It doesn't mean anything. The par the problem. I didn't watch it because you were asleep. No, I had a basketball game. 90. They scored in the 90-something. That's what I'm saying. That's not a good look. Yeah. Going into the next game. 98 minutes. Eight minutes. It's like you can't hold on. One, they were up one-nothing, right? And then we should stop talking about this because by the time this comes out, they're going to be like in the round and be eliminated by the yeah. But we have been I have been proud of Columbia. Yeah, right. Yeah, right. Yeah. Whose Colombia has got Portugal, right? Tomorrow. Portugal on tomorrow. I can't wait. If the cards play right, they might play Argentina. I love Germany. You want to play Argentina? Style of football. I think the US, I mean, obviously, uh forgive us because we're talking about something that by the time this comes out could be mean nothing. But the fact that we won our group and then we draw Bosnia, dude, that's a great draw. But big time. It's Bosnia and Herzegovina. How do you say it? Herzogna. That's two on Horizon. How do you say it? That's never a good matchup. Look that up. What is it? Bosnia, Herzegina. And Herzog. Herzogonia. Herzogonia. Herzigovina. Herzogna. Herzegovnia. Herzgovnia. I'm pretty sure it's a Rasha. Or that's Genovia. That's from uh what's that on uh Princess Diaries, dude? Oh, I thought you were talking about from uh Why do I know that? From the uh The Avengers. What's the place that they destroyed? Gamora. That's a lady. Sokovia. Is that it? The place they destroyed in the first Avengers. That's what are we talking about today? Today, we are talking about rest. Oh, like the other stuff, the rest. The rest of it. Yeah, we're gonna talk about the rest of it. No, we're talking about rest, and we're talking about how it's important to learn how to rest. It's a biblical principle. I'm here to learn because I've yet to figure any of that out. So Devin has horrible rest patterns. On average, how many hours do you sleep? How many hours during a day, bro? I'm asleep right now. What are we talking about? I don't know, probably like four or five. You ought to get a you ought to get an aura ring or a whoop or something. Dude, I do a very easy aura. See what your recovery is. Your score would be. No, this is your recovery. What is that? An hour sleep. It calculates everything. Last night I got 13 hours. I got seven. I got seven hours and fifty-six minutes of sleep last night. Almost almost eight hours of sleep. Goodness. I've never had that. Yeah, but you have young kids. Yeah, you have little kids. No, before I had kids, just in life. Really? I like to wake up a lot. I was in a deep sleep for almost two hours last night. I was in a REM, I was in my REM cycle for 52 minutes. I do dream pretty frequently, so I'm guessing that's when I'm in my REM. Two hours and 50 minutes of restorative sleep last night. Man, he's feeling good. Do I dream? Oh, I dream, brother. I uh I dream in movies. I can't wait to sleep because that's how awesome my dreams are. It makes reality just. This guy's gonna be really pumped up for crew night tonight, huh? He's gonna be like, hey guys, what's it? I got an energy drink. And it's always like a youth event's like a uh full moon, dude. It does something. Ooh. My brain. I just get all riled up once everybody gets here. Like, give me that megaphone over there. Forget about it. Yeah. It's a different mode. Can't wait for a senior high. It's like doing a line of coke for dev, dude. What are we doing? What are we talking about? What are we doing? Good thing this is an extra podcast. Spencer would be upset if he was in the room. He probably would have walked out already. Yeah, Spencer's always editing us. Like rest wise, I'm like you, I've never been able to sleep in anyway. So like I'm pretty much up and going. And then yeah, I dream, which I think affects my sleep. I don't know if it's dream during deep sleep, like in your so if you're dreaming, that means you're in a deep sleep. I always know when I wake up in the morning if I've had like a really, really vivid dream that I got a good night's rest. Oh, okay. I had one last night that I found like a water gun and I tried to shoot a pigeon with it. I don't know what that means, but if there's any doctors listening.
SPEAKER_00I think we need more than a regular doctor at this point.
SPEAKER_01Uh dude. If there's any water gun in like a drawer in a garage and there was a pigeon and I tried to shoot it. Just a garage. Yeah, remember. I was just in a garage, dude. I dream in movies. Like I wake up and I like a full feature has been played out. Like sometimes I wake up and I'm like, dang, I should write that dream. I change it all the time. Like when you recount it? No, while I'm in the dream, I know I'm dreaming. So I'm like, oh, I can't. Dream within a dream. Yeah, you guys don't ever do that? No. That's a thing. Dream within a dream? No, it's like, oh, my watch is broken in my dream. It's like Inception. Alright, start the watch. It's just a dream. And it'll start working. That's crazy. That's that's completely normal. People do that all the time. I know I'm in a dream, so I'll just change it. I don't think so. I never dream, or if I do dream, which is a rare occasion, it's very, very vivid. Like I'll I'll have like very emotionful dreams. And I'll like wake up like crying and be like, what just happened? What are those videos though on social media now where it's like my sleep paralysis thing? And it's like it's like I don't think I've seen it. And it's like it's Jim Dance calling the masters, and it's like you don't know, but it's like the shadowy friends. Yeah, and it's just like welcome to Amen Corner. No, I've never seen that on Sunday on the masters. And it's like funny videos, but they're completely random. It's like, yeah, dude. But all right, rest anyway. Today we're gonna talk about rest, but not really in the sense of rest like sleeping. No, even though you should get sleep. This so this is a good one for you, Devin. It's biblical, you should rest. But you do nap sometimes, right? And I rest, I do different things to rest. It's not necessarily rest my mind and do other things. So the Bible clearly tells us Psalm 4, verse 8, it says, In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. David is saying, Listen, I can I I can rest knowing that the Lord's washing over me. And I think a lot of times we don't rest in the proper proper biblical way that we're supposed to rest because we are so stressed out and worried about everything. Like if I stop for a minute and just relax, if I rest, I'm not gonna be able to get this done, or this is gonna happen. I think we freak out about so much of the external things that internally we can never learn how to slow down. That and I think people do rest in different ways. Like we have a huge event tonight for youth, and like I went home to like grab something to eat and then come back. And Nicole was like, Why are you still like doing all this stuff? Like, I know you have to set up and stuff, and I'm like, that for me, I know this is gonna sound weird, but it's like that part is restful, knowing that does that make sense? Like, whatever like the preparation and doing it, like she's like, Why don't you just have other people do this or like have your vol wait till your volunteers are there and do it? And I'm like, I'd rather do it knowing that I'm it's done. Like the reassurance, the reassurance of that, but at the same time, it's like I love that stuff. Like, that is fun for me, like walking around and setting stuff up and getting stuff ready for the thing. Knowing what's about to knowing what's gonna happen, but it's like at the same time, like for me, it is it's restful. I know it's because it's work, but it's but then like after crew night tonight, like when you go home and you just your kids are finally asleep and you just sit down, you're like, and you just like oh it's over. That was awesome. That was done. Like, that's gotta be yeah, that's a real reliefful feeling. But then I can eat too. I never eat. You never like before any type of worship. Nervous or like anything. No, it's not that, it's like not necessarily nervous, it's it's just locked in. No, I don't it's I don't wanna eat. No, it's like my stomach. Like, it's not like I'm gonna get sick because I'm nervous. It's I don't want to eat something to where my stomach I know I feel good right now. Yeah, I don't want to eat something and my stomach gets sick and I gotta be able to do it. I mean, we're not talking about someone with a normal no, so it's like I just know myself. I'm like, all right, I could go home and eat later, and it doesn't matter if I feel sick or something like that. Chicken and shrimp. Yeah. So I'll eat something like that. That makes sense. I have a couple things written down because uh as people will know by the time you hear this podcast, I will have already preached a Sunday sermon on rest. Um, but in Matthew 11, it's a famous verse, everybody knows it. Jesus says, Come to me, all who are weary and heavily burdened by religious rituals that have that provide no peace, and I will give you rest, refreshing your souls with salvation. Again, not talking about a physical sleep, but an actual spiritual rest of like an uneasiness, uh, a ritualistic sense of like, oh, I'm never gonna be able to accomplish this, which in turn also I think which is why a lot of people that come to our church or that we have in our church now are, you know, they grew up Catholic or they grew up, you know, in the in the Spanish Pentecostal church or the Haitian church or this, that where it's very, you know, do this, do this, do this, do this, do this type of thing. And I think once you realize, man, if I I just come to Jesus as I am, he washes me clean, he now dwells with within me through the Holy Spirit, I now have this rest where I don't have to try to risk ritualistically complete everything. I get to just relax in his presence. And he says, Take my yoke upon you and learn from me. Follow me as my disciple, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest, renewal, a blessed, quiet. That sounds amazing for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear and my burden is light. And then right under it, I just have uh written down, walking with God doesn't mean you never get tired. It means you know where to go when you are tired. Um, and uh I I think that I I love that the way that the Amplified says that of that that blessed quiet, like that idea of when everything, and that doesn't always necessarily mean you know, for you little kids, me older kids, like uh yes, it is nice when my house is quiet and I can sit, but I think what Jesus is talking about there is a quiet of the soul of all this internal things that we're going through and thinking about all the time that just creates chaos. And a lot of times people think, oh, if I just sit here and I doom scroll, it's me resting, but really that's not even rest either, because all you're looking at is, you know, what's going on in that part of the world, and what about this, and what about that, and look at those people, and I wonder where they are, and you know, our minds go a million miles an hour trying to decipher everything. Sometimes it's good to just like sit and just and just actually rest and be quiet. And your dad said it a couple weeks ago now about like the safest place we can be is like following along with what God has for us or following Jesus and and being in step with that. And I think rest plays a big part in that too. If you understand what your calling is, right, or like what God has placed you on this earth for, or some purpose that like for his purpose that's bigger than than just what you're doing, whether that's volunteering, whether that's um your job and your vocation. Like you will find rest in that as well. Like, like I said, I'm setting up cones for a youth event, but for me, this is my purpose, this is what I'm supposed to be doing, so I'm finding rest in it. And I think that we can do that in the same way. We don't have to stress and worry about am I doing what I'm supposed to be doing? Am I not? It's like, no, when you find what you're what God has called you to do or put you on this earth to do, it's like you'll find rest in that as well. Yeah. Yeah, well, it's I think that that's interesting. I think it's a peacefulness, right? Of like, and I I'm just at peace with like where I'm at, who my friends are, who who my kids are becoming, who I'm married to, like who who my my financial state, my physical state, right? Like I just when you you know, when you're trying to be healthy, you try to take care of yourself, when you save your money, when you do all the things that God has told us to do, all of a sudden you begin to have a little bit more peace. And I think when you have that peace, all of a sudden you can rest easier. I agree. What do you think, single boy with no responsibilities? No, uh you were saying, like, you know, him, him with small kids in the house, you're like, my house is silent all the time. I cannot even imagine. Yeah, dude, it's only loud if you want it to be loud. I've gone days without talking before. Like, if I have like like it'll be like if we have like a I remember specifically there was a Friday we had off, and so I just woke up. I realized by like noon I hadn't spoken out loud. I like it. Don't talk to yourself out loud at home when you're there. Sometimes you don't like plum and say, Dude, I talked to myself. Yes, yes. But like I realized that I was like, let me see if I can keep this up till Sunday. So I didn't talk Friday, didn't talk Saturday, and Sunday I was like, oh, what's up? Just three days rest in the big thing that I I had to kind of make myself realize, like I remember it was one of my first Easters, and I was figuring out how to navigate setting up Trumble High and stuff, and it was very stressful. And at the end, you know, I got got back home on Sunday. I was like, oh man, like I need to I need a rest. And like to me, I was just like, okay, I'm gonna sleep, I'm gonna nap, I'm gonna sit and watch TV or whatever, and it just wasn't fulfilling, right? And I realized I was like, man, I gotta pray a little extra, and I gotta read my Bible. Like, yeah, does it sometimes you know, sometimes you can get into the routine of it feeling like a chore almost sometimes. Um but that like you know, it's that's the rest of like resting in whether it's you know, yeah, you're doing something actively, but it's a reminder of hey, that was tough, but God's gonna reward me, or hey, that was difficult, but God's got my back to it. And like those things are mental rest, like you said, like the reassurance of knowing all that stuff. But well, I think we do that sometimes spiritually. Like I I always think of like every time I'm on vacation, like the second or third day I'm there, I'm like, oh shoot, like I forgot to pray, like God, thanks for this vacation. Like I appreciate like which sounds horrible coming from a pastor, but like you sometimes when you when you do that, you're like, Alright, I'm I'm not doing anything that I do at home. I'm on vacation, and you for and because you're on you know that mountaintop, you know, you're you sometimes forget about those things. And I always think of it like people who are like physically active, you know, they'll say like take a rest day, but make it, but take an active rest day, right? Like go walk a mile or go for go play. You know, you never heard that? No, never heard that one?
SPEAKER_00You know, take an active rest day where you you know you go ride your bike or go play a sport or go for a walk. Like, don't a rest day doesn't mean just sit around and eat junk all day or sleep all day.
SPEAKER_01It means let your body like actively recover. And I think spiritually it's the same way as like God's like, man, take a rest day. Make I mean he tells us to take the Sabbath, right?
SPEAKER_00But the Sabbath is also the day that we go to church, right? So he said, take the Sabbath, that's your day of rest, right? But that's also the day that you go to church.
SPEAKER_01So, you know, there's a correlation to those two things of learning how to rest and rest in his presence, but also staying active in your faith to where that rest doesn't compound itself and now you just become lazy, where I'm actually actively resting, thinking about God, thinking about all the things that he's done in my life, um, and and taking kind of a pause from the rest of the world while still allowing God to be in his rightful place, which is why you know, Sunday should be a day where you come to church, you go home, you spend time with family, maybe take a nap, maybe hang out with family, maybe relax on the couch, but you're still kind of actively doing the things that God has called you to do and pursue without becoming like, you know, not over a lazy a lazy bum. Because we all know we feel you know, you do that, you sit on the couch for like two days straight, you feel like poop, you know? Like unproductive. Like when it's like if it I'm thinking of like a huge you know, when you get like a huge snowstorm or whatever and you're just like, Okay, that was fun for like two hours. Now I'm like, all right, what what are we doing now? Like I don't wanna just s I love it. I wanna just sit here anymore.
SPEAKER_00Cause I can do that.
SPEAKER_01I can sit on the couch for my wife can't at all. Like I I get home on Sundays and I'm like, all right, I'm gonna especially football season, I'll be on the couch from whenever we get ho done with third service, like what, 130, 2 o'clock till till bedtime. I'm just like nah, I'm like at end of a day. It's like yeah, everything else is done, then I can go and just chill. Like I'm you can't relax if you know there's things to do. Not like it's just a different form of relaxation. Like I'd rather go do something to relax than sit and relax. Yeah, no, going to do something is not relaxing. Like I love a like just a drive, dude. Like I'm just getting in my car. I love a drive. For me, like I hate it. Doing playing music is doing something, but that's relaxing to me. Yeah. Yeah. Well, that's a restful thing. Especially when you're doing it like on your own just for fun. Like you're doing it for fun. Like if it's work, like, oh I gotta record this track or something, that might be stressful. But if you're like, man, let me just rip this, you know, rip these chords real fast. Bring in my guitar to camp. Shred this uh shred. Um did that the camera shut off in the middle one. The top one did. We're gonna just check the camera really quick. It's fine. These two are still on, so we'll be good. Are there any lights on? Nope, the thing is toasted. When he said there's 108 minutes, they meant eight minutes. Yeah, we're back. That's alright. We got these two going. The other one's gonna be. Spencer can figure it out. We don't really have any other options, so. But what I was gonna say is, like you were saying, you know, you don't want to overdo it. Like you don't want to let rest turn into laziness. Yeah, like watching online two towns over, or you know, not going to midweek because you're resting or things like that. Like Devin and I, whenever we're on trips, like my favorite phrase is I'm on vacation. I'm on vacation. So we're we're stopping by a crumble, you're gonna get a cookie. I'll get to I'm on vacation. Like, just like so, don't let it, you know, get away from you. Yeah, you can't bring that vacation mode back with you and be like, all right, well, this is just my experience. Or go too far do anything. Yeah, I mean, like I could go. Yeah, because I think well, the convenience of the world that we live in too is if you never wanted to leave your house, you don't you wouldn't have to leave. I remember yeah, you said that once. I was like when we were younger, and it's like, yeah, with Uber Eats and stuff. Like you literally would never have to leave your house. Like well, we have like if you worked from home, if you worked from home, you can watch church from home. You obviously watch TV and live events from home. You could have your groceries delivered to you, your food delivered to you. You literally, and when you're talking groceries, you could have medicine, you can have toiletries, you can have you can literally have every single house. Yeah, you could literally not leave your house if you didn't want to with the convenience of where we we live. We should try it. How long can we stay on the that's a miss that's gonna be a Mr. Beast video? Have you seen this PS? Have you seen these guys in the grocery store? Yeah, I saw it. It's crazy. It's insane. Mr. Beast, he like these guys were in the grocery store, and he was like, uh, if you can whoever whoever leaves whoever stays in the grocery store the longest, like wins or whatever, and like none of them were leaving. So he like changed the video and he went in and he was like, Alright, I'm gonna make you guys a new deal.
SPEAKER_00He's like, if you guys can stay in here as well, four guys. Four of them, yeah.
SPEAKER_01You have to we're gonna restock this grocery store, and however long it takes you, if you can stay here, you have to eat everything in the grocery store. They've been there like four months, dude. Yeah, so instead of making it like worse, he made it great again, and it's like, yeah, but they get like a million dollars for the gym in, he put it so that they don't get food. I mean your family and everything.
SPEAKER_00Like, but it's like the one Mexican, there's like one old Mexican guy's name's Juan. He's like the he's like a fan favorite, and he was like, I have nowhere to go. He's like, I'll stay, he's like, I'll stay here 10 years.
SPEAKER_01He's like, I have nothing to do. Yeah, and then it's like three younger guys, right? Yeah, two brothers and another guy. Mr. Beast DM'd me with that exact opportunity. I'm having a meeting with your dad. But they lasted like like what like 21 days. Not maybe even longer. It was a couple weeks. It was a couple weeks, maybe a month. But they were like, he was cutting the store in half, like they didn't have anything to sleep on, like they were just doing it. Yeah, but your body adjusts. Yeah, I guess. I'm gone. A million, I'm gone. Needless to say, they are getting their rest. $150. I'm gonna craziest show we just watched a show. Free food. There's a new have you watched uh Outlast on Netflix? No, I've not watched it. So that it's one they did one and it was like in the cold weather and it was like individual people in the world. Now the new one is the jungle, and it's in the jungle of Panama, and they make teams. There's three teams. Those are the two rules. You can leave whenever you want, and you can switch teams whenever you want. But you can't, but a team can't have more than five people. Yeah. So the only way you could switch teams is if they voted someone off or they decided to switch to the phone. Oh, is they're voting off? Yeah. Yeah. They can send if majority majority rules can send whoever they want home if majority rules. And whatever team wins, you split a million dollars. It was sick, dude. It was really, really good. And I don't really like shows like that. But you you'd probably I think you would like I like alone, which is the same kind of concept. Well, see, I like this because the first season of Outlast was individual people, and it just got too boring because it's just one person like talking into a camera the whole time. Like this, you get the dynamic. Like one guy wait, like the guy who's lasted the longest, it was like he stayed like a hundred days or something like that, and the other people had been out for like 40 of them. Like they just didn't because they wait until you are done. Like, so you don't know you don't know when you say I'm done, you don't know if you won or not. Because you don't know. Like pull that flare and like they or whatever it is, like you don't know, and then they tell you, Yeah, you won. But it's like the other people had already bowed out. Yeah. This one's really cool because of the well, like I've talked about before with like these games and stuff, like seeing seeing the in the the humanity of people of like, yeah, I would never like I I'm I I'm playing this game with honor, and then like two. Two episodes later, they're like, you're off. Like it they don't like people think well that's yeah, you like look at it and you're like, I would be such a good teammate, and it's like, yeah, until there's like a million dollars. A million dollars on the line, it's like this person's slacking. Or it's yeah, or it's a like I'm watching it and like obviously I I'm a fairly competitive person. Like I I think to myself, like, I wouldn't I wouldn't do anybody dirty, like that's messed up. But like I think the only reason I would vote anybody off in a show like that is if they were like holding the team back. Like like I'm trying to win. It's a it's a game at the end of it. Yeah, it's a it's not a I don't like you or I'm trying to What about that situation like on like the challenge where they it's you and one other person on your team that made it and won, and they're like Luke, you have the decision to take a mic. And you're splitting the money splitting the money for sure. Take the money and run, or or any of those shows, I don't understand why, like, okay, there's there's three people left, and however many of you, you know, you're you're competing against another, like there's three of you, there's us three versus another three, and like Mateo is really struggling and he's holding us back.
SPEAKER_00Like, instead of us just being like, hey, let's vote him off, like I'm going to him and be like, listen, you're holding us back. We're gonna go win a million bucks, we'll give you a hundred grand, go home. Like, yeah, that I don't understand why more people on those shows don't do that. Like two, like if you stay, we're gonna lose. Yeah, but if you bow out and don't make us look like the bad guys, we'll win it and we'll give you a hundred.
SPEAKER_01Now you gotta put your trust in us, obviously. But I don't understand why more people don't do that on those shows. I don't watch enough of those shows. Yeah, probably. I've never watched an episode of Survivor ever in my life. Everyone loves that show. And it's been on for like 50 seasons, dude. Yeah, I have no idea. I've never seen it. It's legit. Look how many seasons of Survivor there's been. I only know because of the office. I want to say it was like 30 plus. There might be more. Speaking of games, we're gonna play Survivor right now. We're gonna play Survivor. Devin's gonna saw Devin's gonna saw his foot off right now. I think that's saw what you're thinking of. I've never seen Christian. 50. Boom right on right on the dot. Had to get that out. Alright, wait, I have a question. I saw this on TikTok earlier, and now I'm curious what your guys' answer is. Okay, before you do that, so make sure that you rest this week. Take some time, take a day, take a half a day, try to take Sunday after church, just relax, rest in his presence, learn how to just be at peace with everything that God has done in your life, know that he's in control of everything else, and learn how to find some activities. And if you want that, you can go back and listen to my message from two weeks ago now, all about rest. There you go. Yeah, you gotta find something. Yeah, yeah, find something that you do that makes you decompress. Hobbyless people blow my mind. Like, you gotta do something. What? No, Devin Scott. What's his hobby? What do you got? What's your hobby? Cards, golf. No, not really. It's hard to have a hobby when you have little kids. Yeah, but I don't know. I'm pretty convinced. But you've had different hobbies throughout your life. You rotate. I rotate. Like, he used to be a big soccer guy. Yeah, like like I'm saying like people that like don't have any. They don't do anything. Yeah. Like they literally. I would say like work's my hobby. My dad doesn't really have a hobby. I love work. My dad doesn't really have a hobby now that I think about it. Preaching, eating. That's what I mean. It's like he's but he loves to eat.
SPEAKER_00But he does love to eat. Like, like, not even in I'm not trying to be the jerk. That's crazy.
SPEAKER_01Like, no, like he he's even said it. Like he he loves he's a foodie, yeah. He like loves to eat. Okay, so let me backtrack. And it doesn't have to when I say hobby, I don't mean hobby, I mean a passion, right? Like, so your dad has passions. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like he knows a lot about a lot of different things that don't have to be. But you need things that he interests in, like, yeah. Things that you can decompress with. Yes. Mine would be, yeah, like that, like watching documentaries. Yes. Like I know that's weird. No, no, no, but like and listening to like or watching history documentaries, listening to history podcasts and watching. Yeah. So take that lady that said Devin needs to move and get smarter. Yeah. Take that lady. How about you go to one of those other countries and get smarter? How about you find another podcast? How about Pastor Pat and moves to another country? That's hilarious. Okay, what were you gonna ask us? Um he doesn't remember anything. So would you rather have $70,000 in cash? Yes. Or $700,000 in pennies. But like like I like a truck just unloads them in front of your house. I mean, I guess the pennies. I I would have to take a few weeks and put them all in the little slope. Yeah, or you or you spend $10,000 and it's like I'm gonna hire somebody show. Yeah. I'm gonna give you $10,000 in you show up on my yeah, you and three people, and it's like, let's go pick those pennies. Like if I won that money and I asked you and I said, I'd pick up the pennies. For 10 grand. Yeah, why not? What else am I? Why not? What else grand, dude? He needs a hobby, dude. That's something that I would thoroughly enjoy. Picking up change, man. That's a that's a good point. I did not think of that. Yeah. It's like I just I don't want to roll all those pennies. That's another thing about the convenience of the world we live in. You could literally pay anyone to do anything that you don't want to do. Absolutely. You could always find someone to do something that you don't want to do. Clean a toilet, like anything. You can you can always find there's always someone out there that if you're like, man, I don't want to do this, can I pay somebody to do this? There's always someone that would do it. That guy. I'll do it. He'll do it. Um hitman. Thing would you rather, or like hypotheticals. I saw one the other day that it was you go to jail for 25 years. So I'll put lump me and you into this. All right. We go to jail for 25 years, or like you know it's gonna be 25, or you go to jail until either the Cowboys or the Jets win the Super Bowl. Oh man. That's that's rough. Because it could be forever. Like they never win. That's crazy. Yo, so it's like you take your 25. I'd probably have to gamble on because you're getting double, you're getting double. Like it could be next year. Like, you know what I mean? Like you never know what happens. So it's like the Cowboys obviously have a better shot than the Jets do. You never know. Five years is a long time. Whole front office. And it's like the same thing. We're back to Mr. Beast. It's like the hardest thing is having the family and missing them. Like it's like if I was single, I'd stay in there all day. I'd probably actually like prison.
SPEAKER_00Single people, single, single people on those shows are at a huge advantage.
SPEAKER_01Huge advantage. Yeah. So which one would you pick? You gotta take the dice on the on the Cowboys Jets. You have to. Yeah, you'd have to. But you could be there forever. That 26 years gonna be a long year. 1992 was the last Cowboys one, so they're on 24 years. So this coming season will be 24 years. Yeah. So they gotta win it. So you'd have to think in the next one. When was the last time the Jets won? Super Bowl III? Yeah, 67. Yeah, dude, you die in there. Isn't that wild? I'm dying on the inside anyway, just being a Jets fan, dude. I basically am in prison. I saw another prison one actually in prison. Would you rather would you rather spend a year in prison straight or spend five years every weekend in prison? Oh, because that's the same math. Five years ago. I'd probably do the every weekend thing, because then you wouldn't have to do that. Give me a year straight. I'd do a year straight. Just get it over with. What's this prison like? Yeah, but a year straight, that's too long to develop. It's a Columbia prison.
SPEAKER_00It's too long to develop relationships. And you don't speak a license. At least every weekend, all you know is alright, I gotta hide out for 48 hours.
SPEAKER_01It's a Colombian prison and you don't speak a lick of Spanish. And if you disobey anybody, you get tased. Jail. Chicken, undercooked, overcooked? Jail. You go too fast. Jail. You go too slow. Jail. What's that from? Parks and Parks and Rec. Have you ever seen that clip? Oh, it's very funny. Oh, dude. That's like the funniest clip ever. I'll be getting a lot of new girl clips again. So funny. Anyway. I would do it. What's her name? Nice. Nice. I would do a year. Just get it over. They would hate you if they if you got to leave. You just walk in a room. Yeah, but if you go every weekend, all you have to worry about is hiding out. Like, I gotta make it through this weekend. You go for a year, I got 365 days. I gotta protect myself from. What am I protecting myself from? I'm the threat. Have you ever heard about prisons? I'm the threat. I'm gonna be running that thing. These guys, these guys in prison, they've been in there staring at four walls. I'm gonna walk in there, tell them a couple of stories. I'm gonna be like a magician in there. I'm gonna be like one of those old. You're gonna be like the guy that goes to the football teams and does all the tricks. I'm gonna just tell them, guys, this is the dream I had last night. I have a captive audience. That guy's crazy, dude. Oz? Oz the mentalist. Oz Pop. Oh, you ever seen him? That guy's a witch, dude. Or a wizard. It's all made up, Mumbo Jumbo. I don't know. It freaks me out. It does. It's very weird. I saw a clip of him the other day. Yeah, he when he goes to the football. I booked him for an X YA conference. That would be awesome. Like when they had the that Christian magician had Christianity. They did. It was a Christian mentalist. Yeah, he was a mentalist. Yeah. He was a kid. Which is where A is in. So they're not actually doing magic tricks. They're like messing with you. Only three kids got possessed, though. Yeah, that was good. And two. He called it as the teachers. That's well. The kid that won uh the kid that won America's Got Talent a few years ago. He's a Christian magician. He was a Christian mentalist. He was awesome. Like a really good. What is that even? You're thinking of a verse. John 316. He's like you're worried about something in your life. I knew how did you make it? What is that Google thing? Little pink soccer player there. World Cup season. Every day it's put in soccer player. Put in your guess. For what? Who takes it all? Germany. Who wins the World Cup? Dude, this guy, I can't win to Germany over and over again. But they lost to Ecuador. They're not being a good thing. They weren't trying to win Germany. They were already through. Like the United States, but the United States was trying. Um based on well, we've only watched a group games. I need to watch some knockout games, but I would probably say France. To say the weeks off to pick. I mean, I just think they're unlike the strong pick. Of course, they play Norway now when this is coming out, it'll already happen, but they play Norway tomorrow, and that's it. I don't want to see that. It's gonna be a good test. No, it's today. It's today, you're right. It's at three. You're right. It's right now. What are we doing? No, it's at I think lock this up. Half hour. It's at three, because Chris Chrissy said that she was excited to watch it. Yes. Yes. Because they're gonna they're gonna actually play because they want to get the first. It's a battle for first place. Because it is a big advantage getting first. That's why Portugal is a good one. Because whoever wins gets first. Or is Columbia ordered. Columbia has a chance to get first. Columbia's eighth.
SPEAKER_00But all Columbia has to do is tie with them to get first, right?
SPEAKER_01Children's teams.
SPEAKER_00Because I believe Columbia has six points, Portugal has four.
SPEAKER_01Three. Four. They won a game and tied a game. So Portugal has four points. Colombia has six points. Four points. Oh, four points, yeah. What's it say? Colombian. And Colombia has six. Qualified. That's what it says, pal. All of a sudden this guy's Colombian. Yeah. I've been Colombian. He has a horse. All of a sudden he's proud of being Colombian. I'm not Colombian when I make it a lot of people. He's got a little horse there. I'm not Colombian when you guys make fun of me when I order in Spanish every time. Yeah, he's like, we make fun of you when you order in Spanish because you don't need to order in Spanish. Like we're speaking English, we go to round to Brazil. We go to Trumbull Cafe and he's like, uh, porque uh uh hamburgueso uh queso. We're like, dude, just order a cheeseburger with pickles. And it's like, you just said English. Yeah, half of it's in English. You guys think I don't need to order I don't need to order in English, but when you guys order your juritos and she's like, What about the guava one members? Yeah, Spencer's just like I'll have a guava, and she was like, water, and he's like, Yeah. And then she brought this. He's like, yes, yes. Oh man, we love it over there. We love it. Did I tell you the other day? Sorry. I I forget who it was, but we need to have a business meeting with them because I have a genius idea. What are you looking at? Okay. Um monthly subscription, 20 lunches a week, Trumbull Cafe, 200 bucks a month. Are you doing it? 20 lunches a month, you mean, not a week. And 200. She's never gonna do that. That's a good thing. She's not gonna make that. Yeah, she's not gonna make any money doing that. But but the majority of people that will actually eat, that's how you make money with programs like that. The amount of people that actually eats 20 is not gonna be a lot. So you're pr she's probably gonna get, you know, a few people are gonna buy it and only go 15 times or 10 times or whatever. Oh, I'm I'm she does any sort of monthly thing. I mean, I eat there like seven times. They don't do that at restaurants. That's that's weird. No, they don't do that at restaurants, but but I understand what you're saying. You know what I mean? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like if there was an incentive, or if she did a punch start, like, oh, you ate here 10 times, you get a you know 10th lunch. 10 staples, 10th lunch food.
SPEAKER_01Dude, shout out to RJ's grandma, though. She paid for my uh brunch today. What'd you get? RJ Gaspar. French toast. Nice. Is that why you were late to film the pod? I was here, you were downstairs, bro. We were filming at 1 and you didn't get here until 1 30. I got here at 106. French toast. Which I did not know. You were here at 106?
SPEAKER_00Why didn't you text us?
SPEAKER_01That's what I was doing stuff. I was literally down there for 40 minutes. You were just sitting here. I had stuff to do. Oh my gosh. Okay. Not enough. Joey. We hope that you have a great rest of the day, a great night, evening, week. If this one even airs. Oh, it'll air, baby. Make sure that you get some rest, and we'll see you next time. Oh yeah.
