Okay guys. Whoa. Oh, we're going. God. going. We're going. We're going. It's good. We can make sure this is good. Hold Let me pretend I'm dying of angst. Hey guys. I'm fucking amped. Didn't just work 10 hours. Dude, I'm so tired and it's leg day. So, you know, that feels, that feels nice. Should we not skip leg day and just do arms? Every episode is going to be upper body. No, we gotta hit legs. Third one, gotta hit ripped legs for sure. Alright guys. welcome back. between sets. This is numero tres. Numero tres. With the noise canceling on. Yeah, they're on. Everything's good. So today's topic, while we do legs, yes, we are doing legs. Great shoes. You like those shoes? I do. Let's back up. Yeah, little, a little, then my little power lifting. But they're flat, right? Yeah, these are good for like general. I had runners on, so I didn't really want to. I found a pair of Avonkas for like 99 bucks. kind of might, I might. I might spook them up. How's the frame? Are we in frame? Can you see my poop stain from the front? No, right? Just don't turn around. um Yeah, these ones were like 110 bucks normally. Not bad. Yeah. But they're- Dude, I if you've heard of the Vivo Barefoot, but those are like 350. I feel like you I tried to buy a pair and the sizing just never works out. I returned them and I up. We got Barbell Back Squats. And deadlifts? No, no, no, and or, or it's or. Oh, it's and or? Uh, you know what? I'm going to give you a dealer's choice. I'm going to lead the workout today since you've done so much today and you're tired and sleepy. Wow. So we'll do, we'll do either back squats as the first movement or hack squat. You know which one I prefer? Easy choice. Easy choice for me. with the hack squat. Yeah. Yeah. I'll be faster. I think setup wise. I don't have to put a fucking belt and sleeves on if we go really heavy. You gotta put sleeves on? For the squat? If we're doing like what's As a baby back bitch. kidding. Should we warm up or should we just keep chatting? standing here awkwardly. This is what we're doing for the rest of workout. Okay, you're gonna do deadlifts with the band? Yep. I'm gonna work on the hip mobility. All right, perfect. Perfect, what we talking about today? And what are we in betweening? we, I don't wanna mess up the title, so I just wanna make sure that... It's, yeah, we got today's topic is hot takes on fitness trends. we got a list of fitness trends, biohacking, know, wearable technology being one of them. I guess we could even start with that one. Yeah. We have a bunch of topics that we're just going to fly through as today's episode goes on. Sweet. So yeah, that's the overarching topic. And if we ever, if we end up thinking of a really good one on the fly, that also is valid. So- Finish trends. That's a good one. Cause there's a bajillion. You know, there's like- as we get every day, there's a new trend with your clients. Have you tried- that's- That is a different story. the keto carnivore, no water, no salt, no air diet? Have I've lost 10 pounds. Have you tried creatine gummies? Oh God. Bringing it I tried this matcha protein latte focaccia delicious. Like what the fuck? It's got three grams of protein and 72 grams of fat. Literally. Yeah. So funny hearing some of your clients today. They're like, carnivore is one of the topics. They're like, oh my God, I've been carnivore for two days and I feel amazing. That was hilarious. like, yeah, she's been two days. Yeah. It's like, I don't know. I just feel really good. I'm not bloated. I'm like, well, because you're eating only meat and there's less mass in your stomach. Obviously you're going to weigh less. That's not it. Nope. Yeah. It's the two days of dining. could be placebo as well. You gotta give it a little bit of time. Just gonna do some lunges here. Let's get started with, yeah, reverse lunges. Just gonna warm up the legs a little bit. But yeah, let's go first one. We're kind of into this realm. And by hot takes, you know, we'll talk about like the positives, the benefits, and even play like some devil's advocate, drawbacks, things that are like, we find kind of... Kind of weird or culty or you know what I mean? Yeah, I a lot of trends. You know like you in high rocks. You want to hear about how I did high rocks twice now? Definitely not. It's my whole personality. So let's get started with topic number one. 75 hard is what I have here. It doesn't have to be in order. Okay. But since you mentioned it, let's talk about like things like that. Challenges that are pre-designed or built. for someone to lock in and stick to it. 75 hard or 75 soft. Does 75 soft? Yeah, 75 soft is just like, it's a softer version of the hard version. I was like, is it just 75 days of like watching TV and just sitting on the couch? No, there's like a little bit. less rigidity and Right. Like instead of two workouts, just at least one a day. And I think you're allowed like one cheat day per week. Right. Right. So have you attempted or completed one yet? Cause I have a story I so attempted, would say indirectly because I attribute back when I was practicing or sorry, prepping for men's physique. Right. That's kind of like a 75 part. literally is. Cause you're doing cardio every day. You're training every day. The only thing I wasn't doing every day was reading. Yeah. Yeah. Who the hell reads? I'm just kidding. I know. I have no idea how to read, bro. But yeah, the only part was like the no reading. Yeah. So I would say in some way, shape or form, I was pretty close to doing one. Right. Not like a hundred percent, but like kind of experienced the majority of it. Right. Right. Right. Right. It's essentially just sticking to a almost three month plan. Yeah, it is. I did it even longer than 75 days because it was three months. Yeah. Not two and a half. So you did the 75 hard before it was cool, essentially. So you're like a hipster. You're in my mind. No, But that's the closest I got to doing it. I did a... It wasn't a full 75. I think it was like a month and a half recently. Yeah. Like a soft version. Right, right. Yeah. I remember you said you were doing that. Yeah. I remember. Yeah. I never did it like to the extent where it was like you have to be freaking all over it. And yeah. What about you? I tried it during the summer. Very like maybe like 10 days. Not going to lie. Like to do the exact one where it's like 40 minute, 45 minute workouts twice. One has to be outdoors. Yeah. In Canada, bro. Doing that. Well, that's what I'm Even during the summer, it's like sweltering heat. And then yeah, the workouts obviously that was easy. The nutrition pretty straightforward. You just got to stick to your diet. Yeah, I just ate really, really clean. And then the reading I was okay with like, again, I read at like a fifth grade level. you know, I had to whip out my blues clues. I know it's supposed to be self-help and motivation, but that motivates me. Anyway. Where's Waldo? Bro, those ones are hard. Yeah, dude, it teaches you alertness and coordination. Alright, shall we hack squat it uh up? uh Ooh, we might have to do linear. You want to do linear hack squat? You don't like that one, eh? I could fuck with linear We could just rip some back squats too, or belt squats. Let's do back squats. Like barbell back squat? Barbell back squat. yeah, that's fine. No, on the cool side. Yeah, that's fine. We can do it there. It's more quiet. That way we don't have to go super heavy. Fantastic. Or we can... Are you on platform here? No. We'll do this one. That's fine. I like this one. Why? I just like on racking on this. I don't like that one. What's wrong with that one? Okay, we'll do that one. God damn it. Motherfucker. Sorry, blur that out. Demonetized. Immediately. We didn't even make a dollar yet. Zero dollars made. I I got that right. There we go. That's a good spot right here. Yeah. 75 hard at, yeah. Like I said, I tried it. think, sorry, I know some clients also who attempted it. I've known of people who have like actually fully done it. You know, you get good results. I mean, you're eating clean, you're training a lot, you're burning calories. Obviously you're going to get a little leaner. And I think it's also like, yeah, your body composition is going to fade. Yeah. I think also like the mental aspect of it you learned like. consistency, resilience, all that. I was gonna say resilience and then you took it from me. It's a good word, strong word. We've said that like three times today. Resilience. I just learned it today on my Blues Clues chapter three. Today on Blues Clues we learned resilience. But I think some of the drawbacks to it, I think again it's like a good, if you're someone who doesn't like work out and you're like, I'm gonna do 75 hard. I think it's a bit of an extreme approach. You want to start first? I might have to bring it down, but one of them is shorter than you. Whoa, did we get that on camera? I didn't say anything. Did you say you're shorter than me? No. I'm sure you said I'm six foot in heels, so. All right, let's warm Now that's facts. Anyway, while you do that, I'll kind of chat. So, yeah, I don't know. I think if you're just like getting into the fitness, I would say. do these easier versions or use it as like a guideline. I think like in general, it's a pretty standardized, like, you know, it's a program. It gets people accountable. There's a big community around it. Damn, those are low. There you go. That's how I like to do it. Nice and low. Damn, I haven't squatted in like three weeks. I quit powerlifting, remember? We should just call this not between sets. We should call it confessions with Matt. Yeah. Fuck I'm gonna go get my lifting shoes jokes like my squat shoes nice. It's good that Yeah, there's a thing about 75 hardware. Trying to think of other other ones that are similar. Like it's just any kind of diet. Yeah, there's a lot of like 60 day challenges, transformation challenges, 30 day fat loss or like no fat. Yeah, it's like all that. No fat or only fat. Yeah, it's my personal favorite. uh Like the thing the thing about 75 heart is like it's to me, seems like the drawback of it, it's like it's too rigid. intense. Like, yeah, it's only two and a half months, but like to get achievable results, you don't need to zone in that hard. Yeah. Like go zero to a hundred. Like I like to talk about balance and whatever. And sure, maybe for some balance isn't necessarily what you're looking for. And you're, actually having fun being that rigid with your lifestyle, but like you should be able to one day a week, go out with your buddies or. have a drink, have like some Korean barbecue or whatever. Yeah, I That's the first thing that came up. Have a little soju. Soju, I agree. think balance, right? But I think also to that extent, it could work for people who only operate in extremes. One sec, before I hear your stupid thought, do you want 25 or play on it? It's a 25. It's not stupid, okay? I may only read at a fifth grade level, but I think at an eighth grade level. Oh, okay. I'm sorry. Skibbity. You say skibbity. Six, seven. All you go and then I'll go. Yeah, but like I was saying, I think some people, they actually need that approach. Like they only work in extremes. Like either I do it or I don't to an extreme or I don't. So I think it depends on the person for 75 hard. Then that comes to the to like just how much discipline do you have? Yeah. Do you really need to be pushed that hard to develop this discipline? Yeah, that's true. Or just being able to distinguish between like obsession and balance, you know. And then there's also the people that are like doing it just to say they did it. Yeah, yeah. I'm just gonna bring the rack down by one if you can hold that for a sec. Sorry. Just a static hold. Yeah, this is why I hate this rack bro, because I don't like putting it back on this thing. I like show you how to do it. I like the power racks. All right, go. Yeah, nice. Yeah. So all in all, 75 hard, it gets three booms. The Costco guys. No, think, yeah, I don't know. I feel like you need structure. Maybe you can do that. You can use it as a baseline or as a guideline. But I think for the average person, how about you just try being a little more active for 75 days and eating a little bit better instead of jumping to the extreme. That's what I'm saying. Like it's such a, it's such a big thing to do that like most of the time most people are not going to stick to it. Yeah, yeah, Totally. Sure. Maybe that's even part of the brand identity of 75 hard. It's like, yeah, only the most intense people can do this. Okay. Yeah. Shut up. Like, how about you just fucking focus on your health? Yeah. Like what's with all this? Like it's not even gamification at this point. It's just, I don't know. It just seems a little too extreme for me. Agreed. Like if you just keep thinking about that compounding effect and you keep putting a little bit of effort day in and day out, or like if you talk about like no alcohol for a month. That's a very respectable thing. I've done it, you've done it. But it's still like kind of an extreme thing to do. So all of these like challenges and stuff, although they're great for you. Like sober October or whatever, yeah. If we're thinking about it in a... Attainable aspect you need to you need to give yourself a little bit of leeway a little bit of fun like We're human right we don't thrive on this like Robotic means of living right you gotta right you gotta fucking have some fun. You gotta like let loose sometimes. I think too when you Jump, yeah sounds good when you jump into something like that And then you do fall off then you fall off like but then you find you mentally you get fucked up I think you fall apart. Exactly. It's like I had a bad day. I might as well just black out for the next week and a half. And I'll just restart. You're in Miami, like, what the fuck happened to Wake up in a hospital. story. So yeah, that's the thing. And like if you don't end up doing it, you just shit on yourself even more, right? You get down. Why don't you achieve... Like what I tell most people, set yourself some nice time, small wins, little goals towards that big goal. It's way better. Yeah. Tackle one thing at a time versus trying to like, Oh, I'm not active. So I'll work out twice a day. don't read. So I'm going to read every day. I don't diet properly, but I'm all of a sudden going to diet perfectly. It's like zero to a hundred mentality that everyone has these days. And it's like, no. 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, then you'll jump another to like 8 % because you made some gains. I don't know, bro. could go on and on about it. It's just- It's not a 75-hard episode though, so we got more to do. It's just, like I get it, it's good, but like, just don't kill yourself. Yeah, yeah. And kudos to the people who do it for 100%. Good for you, that's incredible. You're like consistent. You put in the work. I've seen people do it. Yeah, now go and get a tattoo of it on your lower left calf. Yeah. You know? uh Yours is fine though, because it's held in ring. Exactly. I also didn't mean that. I know, was like, sir, what the fuck? It meant like, you know those people that do like Iron Man and they... Like a barbell or something? Also not knocking them. I'm just saying like that's the thing that people do. But yeah, the next thing we got to talk about bro, wearable tech, biohacking, infrared, sauna, all that shit. Cause we, we have quite a, that's it. Just four? I'm tired today bro. How many are you four to six? I'm just kidding. So as you can see, we both have a loop on right now. We've been through, we've been through the gauntlet. I've had it on and off. I've had everything. Yeah. I haven't tried the aura. Yeah. What's the other one? uh The ring? No, there's whoop, there's Apple Watch, Garmin. Garmin is a big one. I haven't tried Garmin either. And Garmin is like always related to like endurance sports. Yeah, running, cycling, swimming. And then in this whole topic, there's um like infrared technology, blue light blocking glasses, everything that helps you just biohack. kind of have achieved better performance or more better productivity or just overall improvement in your bodily functions. Even your pooping. God, Lord knows I need that. Your boy is clogged up. You got any thoughts? I mean, yeah, obviously, like I've used this round of my whoop. I'm on like six months in. You know me, I'm a kind of a whooped elitist. I really do like the whoop. Love the data. It's cool to see how several nights have been drinking destroys your body. Who would have thought? I know one of my favorite things is looking up. in like the groups when you see someone's got like 1 % recovery and you're like, yo, this guy went out last night. Like, you know, I used to do that all the time. I check after the weekend. I'm like, he went out. He went out. Yeah. Three hours. is your heart rate 180 at 4am last night? I saw Instagram. uh So that stuff is really cool. The sleep stuff is very interesting because I suck at my sleeping consistency. So I think that helps. Sleeping consistency is the main thing that I think most people struggle with. Yeah. It's not even about the hours. It's just same wake up time, same bed times, which to be honest, I, I'm not the greatest out like most like 80%, but you know, the weekends, I'm not going to go to bed at 10 and get up at five. Like I would during the week, right? No. So that does throw me off a little bit. Let me get a quick set in. uh Speaking of whoop, I forgot to turn on the strength trainer. I guess I'll go back and do it later. Yeah, yeah, I'll put the workout in for us. Yep, sounds good. But yeah, in terms of like wearable tech, these bands, the trackers, anything that kind of gives you some data or analysis of your bodily functions. And by that, We usually get information on our sleep, our cardiovascular system, our stress. Buddy almost pulled the, almost pulled what you talked about last episode. Holy shit, I almost re-limbed that. dropped the weight. Holy shit. So like, anyway, what I'm trying to say is the data that you get from it is great. It's a good way for you to understand where you're at, how to make changes. there's a caveat to that or the flip side where it can become too obsessive. Where you start making decisions based on like, my recovery is not good. I'm not going to train today. I'll even catch myself like sacrificing certain things just so that I make sure that I have a good night's sleep or well, yeah, which I mean, I keep that important. Yes, exactly. Sometimes you need to make a sacrifice. Yeah. Sometimes you have to decide certain things, especially in a relationship and whatnot. Yeah. But, uh I don't know, I think I'm more on the positive. It's a good thing. Yeah, I agree. And I think like being kind of because I've heard the flip side where people are like, no, I don't want that. I don't want to always over it. It's always like scanning me. Oh, like the all the radiation, whatever all that stuff. Buddy, we're all going to we're all fucked. We have cell phones. Are you going to tell me that you're going to worry about that? Yeah. When you're ingesting just shit. Yeah, yeah. I do process cheese and like. Oh, you wear a wearable? That's terrible for you as you slam down like a two liter of Diet Automatic rhyme right there. Wearable, terrible. Damn. Should we go heavier? I'm probably, yeah, fucking whatever. I'll probably just do like a double or something. 225? This is 225. Alright, so two plates and a 25. 275, sure. I might get my belt cut. You have math at a fourth grade level. I do. See, I'm learning. I'm evolving. Yeah, I personally like it. You know me, every time you... joke about getting rid of the whoop, like, no, don't do it. Stay with it. We need to make an episode on the whoop alone. Cause I honestly like, got thoughts about, for me, I just, I just, I like like the routine of waking up and seeing like how my previous day affected my current day. And then you would just, journaling is really cool. And like with the newer, like not just whoop alone, but a lot of the new wearables. The technology keeps getting better and better. now it's like blood. It's only going to get better as technology improves. like aphid, skin temperature. Like, you know you're sick a week before you're sick because all your vitals start getting weird and you're like, something's off here. can kind of prepare for it. can even maybe offset the sickness and not be as sick. And I think a lot of the really high end ones, like Whoop, Garmin, Aura, I think they're getting pretty close to being quite accurate on like your caloric burn through the day. and stuff like that like yeah yeah yeah i would say it's getting there like it's still probably not 100 accurate because i don't think it can be but i think it's getting pretty close i i just want there to be a freaking one that does it all yeah yeah one-time payment it's accurate like bro apple get on your i'm surprised apple doesn't have a more advanced not just the watch but like they have the tech they just don't care yeah yeah you can you can make something as accurate as the whoop yeah and maybe make something like the same form factor as the wood? Make it for people that are into fitness? It's a huge market. Me talking like a fucking know it all. Apple is in desperate need of money, so yeah, you're right. They're not putting up huge numbers right now. Definitely not. Well, like, seriously though, why is there not one device that just is all in one thing? There's a drawback to each one. Anyways, that's device. Yeah, it's like some people don't want to wear it on the wrist Some people don't like what like I wouldn't wear the aura because it's of training like barbells and you're always like all my clients I have it they always take it off and I'm like that's the whole point is to wear it while you're training So what are you tracking? You're just tracking your like non activity exactly right? So it's gonna be some skewed data. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Anyways, I love I love wearables I think they're good for you. I understand some drawbacks of it. But like what about infrared? Cold plunges, I used to be a master of this. I still am a master, think. Yeah, your cold plunges on my house in my garage. Hasn't been touched in a year. been getting good use. Yeah, it hasn't been touched in a year. I'm hit this set. So I'll talk about cold plunges and sauna. In for it, I actually don't, I haven't done myself personally. But yeah, cold plunge sauna, I like it. Do I think it's like a game changer that like, absolutely peaks your recovery and stuff like that, probably not. um And there's so much research that argues on both ends saying, yes, it's great. Then another, you know, research study that says actually no, hole plunges reduce your hypertrophy. You know what I mean? Like, that's only if you do it after you train. Yeah. That's what saying. There's so many variables to it. I like, I like hole plunging for more of like, just like the adrenaline, the adrenaline, the thrill you get. like, You're so wired. But there's huge immune system. Immune system. Yeah. And then sauna has always been a good, I've always enjoyed sauna. Talk, you just sweating all this shit out. I don't think there's anything bad to say about either. And then I like the old combo. Oh, back and forth. You feel like God himself. ah I feel like straight up coming out of both of those, like three rounds in each. I'm going to get my belt. You feel like you ascended. I have to my belt. I'm sorry. To the next level. Don't talk shit. I'm not far. I'm not saying to not talk shit. I'm definitely gonna talk shit. He needs a belt for 275. Yeah, it's kind of heavy, but is it really that heavy? It's been lifting for years. I didn't say anything. I didn't say a single thing. I'm gonna watch this back in a speed talking shift for No, you watch these videos back? No way. No, you do that. just watch the finished product. Exactly. Thanks bro. for a good time. Just here to invest your body's energy into spewing word jargon and word vomit. And my fourth grade. Knowledge of nothing of nothing. literally know nothing. We're just out here talking shit. Just some boys talking. You know how the girls are just like, I'm just a girl. I'm just we're just a boy. We're just boys. Yeah, dude. I'm done that belt four times. What are you doing? I don't know. I'm trying to find that. go. I'm trying to find the right groove. Oh, gosh. Going to suck balls. You got it. Easy peasy. It's light, It's perfect. I used to be able to start back in my day. It's lightweight, Nice, that's pretty good depth. I would pass that depth. Oh shit. Racked that. I'm gonna get a double. Yeah, hit a double bro. That second rep. You almost went to the double there. I hate this rack. Damn dude. Now what? Should we hit a few sets of back off sets? I quit power of the thing. We're not backing off. That's why I quit. So I'm not here for three hours. Okay, we'll go back to two plates. We'll hit it for a few times. Yeah, I'm down for one more like lighter set. man. Hit this to failure. It's hilarious because I hit this on bench two days ago and it was easier than squatting. That's pretty fucked. Like benching the same as your squat is kind of crazy. But I'm going to edit that out. Yeah. After my last meet like eight months ago, I'm just like, I don't want to squat anymore. Of course, you were fricking squatting like three, four times a week, not more. You're focusing on three movements. ah I do have a few last minute things to say while you look at the other topic. Just scroll through them and there's one really good one that I wanted to definitely talk about. But about the biohacking thing overall, I see it as a positive thing. There's definitely some drawbacks with like the obsessive nature. Like you can obsess too much and it... It's quite unnatural. You should be able to be in tune with your body. You don't want to rely on a device. Which if you get more more reliant on it, then you're always going to be like, oh, I just have the data from That kind of goes the same for literally all technology. It's like all technology. You're like, what do I respond to this person? Yeah. them hi. It's just like the merger with tech. Can't wait to That's what I gotta say about biohacking. There's also like a bunch of things we didn't talk about when it comes to biohacking, like red light blocking glasses. blue light. Or like even the circadian rhythm, that has to do with circadian rhythms. There's also like that fake light during the winter that you can look That's like the sunlight, the UV light. Yeah. Exactly. And it like kind of tricks your brain into Kind of crazy, the stuff that we have to like... just alter nature. like, you know what's winter? Nah, I want it to be sunny in my room and just like blast the UV. And that goes to the whole idea of it like being unnatural. know, like biohacking isn't really- So we're not natty. Oh shit. We're not natty. It's definitely not natural. It's like in a human invented way to optimize your physiology. I think within the next eight to 10 years, even now, if I were to scan the gym, there's probably- I can see Apple watch. probably saw two or three loops. saw an aura ring. to be a way for it to be implemented into your body. Bro, at some point. And now we're going to turn cyborg. Yeah, I'm already a... This is the beginning of being cyborg. I'm already a cyborg. There's people out there that fricking like, like open their skin and they put like technology in and then they close it. That's crazy. I've seen some YouTube videos about it. It's messed up and they have like a little indent and I think it tracks their... something to do with their heart rate or cardiovascular system. is always there. And it works with their blood flow or something. I don't know. The wires are just your vessels. I'm not sure how it works. And there was one of them that you would charge it over the skin with a magnetic charge. Dude, that's wild. my God. Well, it's getting to that point, dude. Wasn't it a... Now watch this set. George Bush? No. I was gonna say it was in an RM Kennedy. Do you know that video of George Bush? No. Where he's like, we will defeat the terrorists. And he's like, now watch this drive to all these reporters. He's he cranks it. So funny. What I was saying was, I remember I was hearing the RFK was saying they want wearables on everybody by like 2030 to monitor health, which again, I think can be beneficial. Got one. I don't know why I'm counting your reps. You know how to count. I can only count at a second grade level. There you go. Man, those looking nice. Yeah, I'm gonna rip a set of eight with the belt. My back is fucking tight. Do bro. Do you, do you. You wanna see what's, we have a couple of good ones to still chat about. Yeah, for sure. We've only done our first exercise. God. Well, it's legs, so we only need to do two. That's how legs works for you? Yep. That's how it is. We gotta touch on this one. Carnivore. Oh, God. fads. Yeah. But specifically, there's a, we're talking about recent. Trends. Good adjustment there. Yep. It was pretty uneven. The most recent diet fad is definitely carnivore. And I do have quite a few thoughts on it. You really enjoy it. I'm not carnivore, bro. I don't eat just meat. in the terms of like just meat, right? Just meat. It's like the it's like the freaking Paul Saladino. No, he's not part of work. no, he does like animal based animal based. Yeah. Like essentially it's a fancy term for him being whole foods. Like almost like paleo. Similar, but he's cut some things out of paleo just because it doesn't work for him. But I would say like the way that I eat is a mixture of paleo and animal based. Right. Right. And then I yeah, I have cheat days because I'm human. I like to enjoy good yummy food. Oh, sure. Yeah. For the most part, I would consider myself in that realm. Right. Animal based slash paleo. Yeah. But this is to the extreme. Yeah. Carnivore is where you just eat meat. Yes. Eggs like red meat and eggs. fruits, no vegetables. Yeah. Even like poultry is kind of frowned upon. have to It's mostly red meats. Yeah. And honestly, I think it's like If you're changing your diet, like that was just completely terrible. And you, and you go balls to the walls with carnivore. It's like a quick way, a quick fix to reset. Yeah. Resets your hormones. I don't think it's good long-term. need, you need other. It's like, I always compare it when like clients ask about it. I always compare it to like keto. It's like short-term it's okay, but sustainable long-term, not really. And you don't, you don't want to be doing it long-term. Yeah. Cause if you do it long-term, I'm pretty sure you're missing out on other nutrients. Well, there's so many nutrients. We're going to just take a bunch of supplements the whole time. I mean, you could, guess, but. Let's go leg extensions. Leg extensions and, uh, what else do have? We could do, I have, we could do leg extensions like curls, just keep it simple. Sounds good. Just like three sets of, 10 to 12. 10 to 12, yeah. Or 8 to 10, go a little bit heavier. Sounds good, I'm always down for this. We do Bulgarians and hip thrusts after. I'm zooming down to your pants, bro. Get out of the way. That's good. But yeah. Carnivore. I can't get behind it. Are you on these? Yeah, I think it's been there for a minute. What? All right. Well, now they're doing hack squat. I think that's Zach's. did he leave? Yeah, he's because you guys were here. Yeah, I'll bring it in tomorrow. But yeah, like, should we do one superset and then alternate so we could chat? Yeah, probably. Maybe I have like a bad taste in my mouth because of that freaking idiot delivery king. Oh God. on 10k worth of gear and preaching that he looks like that because... ancestral commandments. And he was eating like raw organs just for clout. You don't mean you don't go out naked, balls out into the sun? Bro, guy's a lunatic. And then he'd bowl testicles for testosterone. I am so... I feel so bad for all of the people who got tricked by him. yeah. Millions, millions. But like, Yeah, carnivore itself is like... Like we said, short-term gains for sure. You're definitely going to experience huge changes and differences in your body because, you're straight up essentially only eating protein and some fat. If you're going from like eating fast food and junk and processed foods from the middle of the grocery section. You're to on the toilet for like a week just getting rid of all the shit in your body quite literally. And you're going to feel amazing. That's why everyone says like, yo, I feel so good. I think a lot of people, sorry to cut you off there, I think a lot of people have these amazing, like feel really great on carnivore, because it's the first time they're actually hitting a good amount of protein. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like they're all of a sudden, they're all of a sudden they will go from 30 or 40 grams of proteins, like 120, 130, 150, whatever. Literally what we preach all the time. You got to just like prioritize high protein. One gram per pound of body weight, maybe just a bit less. I think it could also be a good way for, like you said, someone who's so bad. and you maybe they need a little extreme approach to get to understand how much protein you need to actually have. And you get a visual of it. And then you scale it back and you're like, okay, you can eat, you know, you can eat carbs. You can eat just like slowly add it in. Yeah. I think that makes sense. Yeah. That's kind of like a similar thing that my uncle did. He went really extreme. And this is, this is kind of going back to like our beginning topic of 75 hard with the whole extreme idea. Yeah. And if it works for you, it works. But like we preach. Right. At the end of the day, it's whatever. whatever works, But yeah, essentially he didn't really think much about his diet and then he's like, screw it, I need to focus on my health. And he went straight up carnivore for like a year. I remember, yeah. And he lost a shit ton of weight. Yeah, he looked good. And now ever since he's like slowly reintroduced, you know, certain fruits, kind so he's almost going into like a paleo-ish. Yeah, with a big emphasis on still eating meat and like whole foods. So yeah, I feel like it's just like people need to understand that just when you're shopping for groceries, just buy the real food. The old nutrition, dietitian rule is like when you go to the grocery store, only stay on the outside. Exactly. Don't go down the aisle. Exactly. Down the aisle is all the garbage. processed shit. And again, it's all about balance. know, if you have some processed shit every now and then, it's whatever, but... try to make it not a regular habit. Yeah, I carnivore at the end of the day, pretty solid, depending on the person. It's a good way to make sure you hit your macros, specifically, obviously your protein, clean up your gut health a little bit, get some good animal fats, like that's really important. But it's a little too extreme. Yes, I wouldn't, like average person, I probably wouldn't recommend it. No, bro. Yeah, I would say like- uh Sorry, uh but like people apparently say it helps with like their chronic eczema or eczema. Well, that's what my client was saying. uh I've done it for two days and my skin is clear. I was like, I don't think it works like that. You're just your body's just detoxing of all the other stuff it can process. Right. And since you're eating such whole nutrient dense food in a certain category, you're going to feel more energy. You're to feel like your skin is glowing. There's so many benefits. But like you, you need fruits. need vitamins, minerals, micronutrients. Yeah. think lot people obsess over macros. meat that you can't get from like anything else. But you need to have some fruits. um I love cheeses. Yeah. You need, you need higher fat things. So essentially what I would eat during a day is a shit ton of meat. Obviously I'm a huge lover of ground beef. You're a big meat guy. This guy's a meat guy. meat guy. Ground beef guy. Any fruits, any peelable fruits, berries, avocados, super high in fat. Sometimes I'll mix in like sourdough. Sourdough is a really good bread. I love butter. Butter. Bro, any time I can cook up a steak. Butter it up. Let's go. You've cooked me steak before. was delicious. I still think about it sometimes. I lay awake at night for that burger we had last time. Grass-fed beef burger. This guy can cook. I'll give you that. Unlike me who needs pre-cooked some meat. Yeah, I need pre-cooked meal services to survive. This guy with his factor. Yeah. the convenience is so good. um Sponsor us. This episode sponsored by factor. Probably cut that out. Yeah, dude. don't know. Carnivore again. I think it's all right. Depends on the person. Good for getting your protein in. I would always like it's it goes kind of in line with like Like what I saying, paleo or even keto, cause even keto to some capacity could be a carnivore diet. Cause you're not eating any carbs. It is ketogenic. But most of them. Although you're allowed obviously veg and fruits. Yeah. Yeah. No, sorry. Fruits, no. Too high in carbs. But you're allowed veg. Yeah. So those diaphads for that one specifically. think overall, I don't know if you agree with this, but like paleo is probably like The best one. I would like put someone on Paleo before I put them on carnivore. 100%. If someone needs to like clean up their eating habits, I'd be like, yeah, if you're, it's not meat, fish, fruits, veg, eggs, don't eat it. And that's essentially the new term animal based. Animal based. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So it's like an extension of carnivore. Yeah. Exactly. Like that's what I would put a client on. By far the best option. And then like, you know, then it's just balance, right? Like carbs, rice, pasta, whatever. It's just moderation. As long as your macros are in check, you're still on track for whatever your goals may be, whether that's weight loss or muscle gain. Not gonna lie, bro. Just sounds like you're mumbling right now. Sounds like what? Sounds like you're mumbling. can't hear. Sorry, I'm talking to myself. I can't hear shit. I was just saying like... uh But everyone's gonna hear it, so it's all good. Yeah, you can read it. You can hear it back. What's that next topic? Hybrid athletes. That was a good one. Only because I just did. I want to point out that I'm a hybrid athlete. I did high rocks. You know what I find really funny about hybrid athletes? It's like, I'm also a hybrid athlete. Yeah. Okay. But here's the thing though. I don't preach it though. Here's my, not in my bio. got like a high rocks hat. Sometimes they have like a t-shirt on that says hybrid athlete and they're doing like the most fucked up shit. Here's my take on that. head handstand pushups. The whole like hybrid thing and recent, you know, definitely because of high rocks, CrossFit, whatever. Are you just someone who's fit? Like, why are you giving yourself a title? You're cardiovascularly healthy. You're strong. You have good endurance. Wouldn't that just make you a good athlete? Like, why do people are just like, actually, no, I'm not an athlete. I'm a hybrid athlete. I'm just like, bro. So you weight lift and you do something else like Pilates. So you're fit. Yeah. So you're in good shape. No, no, no. That term is I'm a hybrid athlete. Yeah, we agree on that. That's the only thing that I don't like about that whole thing. I like the approach of it. I think like that's everyone should do that cardio endurance strength. And even like you said, like, well, around well-rounded person, bro. Physically, you're just. Yeah. Again. No, no, no. It makes you elite. Elites. Yes. Hybrid, hybrid elite. But like, yeah, the people apply this weird value. Yeah. to the term where like, it's like, there's people always, they always like have to be something. You have to be in a camp. You have to be left. You have to be right. You have to be hybrid or power lifter or bodybuilder. Bro, I'm just here to be healthy. I'm here to be able to not have problems when I'm older. I want to continue building my body's armor. Health. I love lifting heavy. I love lifting weights, but I also run. I play sports. I can do reformer Pilates. I do yoga. I think that's like I punch you sometimes you do punch me. I punch the wall um today when you get home crying punching the wall. So tired bro. I'm tired boss. I'm tired boss. Yeah, I think with a Harvard athlete I think it's just a trend in the name. hybrid athletes have existed for literally any athlete on the planet is a hybrid athlete. Pretty sure Spartans were hybrid athletes. Football players, soccer players, baseball players, they all strength train, they all do cardio, they do mobility, they do endurance. 100%. That's just called being a fucking good athlete or just a fit person. Yeah. So I think the hybrid athlete thing as someone who is one, from two people who are them, who talks about doing high rocks and... We try new things all the time, but that's what fitness is to be. Yeah, exactly. You don't need to obsess over like, just, I'm just this. to try it all out. People are always asking me like, what are you doing now? Cause I'm always switching it up. Like I have bodybuilding, I have power lifting, have martial arts. I just tried Pilates recently. You do have the tendency to like zone in on one and that's your identity. That's my identity. You need to like work on So I'm a hybrid in the sense of... over a long period of time, I've done multiple things, but now more so it's a little bit more dialed in where I'm doing a little bit of everything. And honestly, it just makes training so much more fun. Like, get caught up when I was only doing powerlifting. When I was doing powerlifting, I wanted to fucking kill myself when I was in prep. Cause I'm like, my God, I got to squat and for three and a half hours, then I got to do accessories. Then I got to eat to fuel myself. Then I got to make weight. And all I do is squat bench and deadlift. And by the time I get to anything else. No, I can't do cardio because it affects my programming. No, I can't do yoga because it affects my pro, you know what I mean? And then it's likewise with bodybuilding or whatever. So now it's like, when you're not constrained to something specific, you can kind of just be like, you know what, I was going to work out today, but I'm going to go do yoga instead. Well, I'm going to go for a run. You know what I mean? I think that really makes training more enjoyable and to be consistent. and train for life, I think you need the variety. 100%. Cause you'll go nuts just doing the same. And don't get me wrong, I know people have been doing the same lift, upper, lower legs for, like, know, splits for 25 years. Same movements, same days, same times. It's like Groundhog Day. Whatever, works for you, I guess. like, I get, like I was joking, like you were joking, was hyper focused. That's true. I'll get really into something. Then after a year, I'm like, I have competed twice on board. What's next? Yeah. I mean, I'll do something else. You got to to the point where you just do it all. Just do it all. A true hybrid. Now that's a true hybrid terminology right there. That's not to say that I was also, you know, in that obsessive phase, you know, when it came to... Yeah, but I think you've always... You've always kind of done like a little bit of everything. Yeah. Even when you do like one sport or whatever, you're still pretty like, let's go back to the tour. I'll do some other shit. Yeah. Whereas me, I'm like, nope, I'm only powerlifting for the next two years. Well, I think that was also just because the way that I was, the way that I was like brought up, I played multiple sports. Yeah, exactly. all times. Like even when I played... like high level hockey and whatnot. think we got Bulgarians. You want to do them on that thing? No. Hell no. Where? We're going to do elevated goblet squat right there. Yeah. And then we'll do like split lunge. Or we could, we can do Bulgarians if you want. Like could do front of box or something. Yeah. If we're doing goblet squats, let's do Bulgarians. I'll bring out this guy. Yeah. That's perfect height. I'll bring out That's a perfect height. We're going to be here. Yeah. And then we'll finish with some ads and that's it. Sounds good dude. Where's your phone at? I feel like we also need to go for a run and do yoga. So we're truly hybrids for today's work. I'm down. No, hell no. I don't know I'm going to make it, dude. I'm so tired today. This is such a hard lift, but hey, consistency. Hey, at least you're doing it. Exactly. Good for you. Yeah. Thank you. I really needed that today. You want to unlock your phone for the next topic? Yep. We're so prepared with our topics. We're on it, buddy. It's so funny how just like how natural this is. We talk about this anyway all day every day. We're just two idiots talking about things. I don't know anything about anything. Let me see. Muscle Mommy is a funny one. Well, now that you mentioned it. Yeah. There is, I mean, that is like a fitness trend happening where like girls are like purposely getting in a caloric surplus. Lots of protein. And they're like getting kind of jacked. Yeah. And that's that term for it. It's a muscle mommy, dude. And get crushed by them thighs. Maybe you will. But I mean, I don't know if, if I have many opinions on it. Like, I think it's more just like an interesting cultural phenomenon. Yeah, because most of the time it is true. Most of the time people are focused on, especially women, they want that toned, almost skinny, maybe sometimes too skinny physique. And then with like the bigger bum, slightly more defined legs. like usually in the upper body, it was always like, trim, lean. And then kind of out of nowhere you start seeing on these girls that are just massive. It's interesting because it's so, such a dichotomy, if you will. Where'd you pick that up? I just went sixth grade level. Between like the culture for the last like 20 years of girls being like, I don't want to get too bulky. And now it's like, no, these girls are like, yes, I want to be fucking jacked and crush a watermelon kind of thing. honestly, now that I'm thinking about it, you know what the good thing about this is, is the ones that are still saying like, if I lift heavy, I'm gonna get too big. Now you know what it takes. Now you can see a tangible Look how much they're eating. Look how hard they're training. How much they're sleeping, supplementation, drugs occasionally. You know what I mean? Then you show that to an average woman, they're like, well, I'm not gonna do that. I'm like, good, then you're not gonna look like that. Also, now we can lift heavy on the leg press. Exactly. And you don't have to complain to me. I'll start with the Bulgarians here. Wow, that was great actually. Yeah. So it is good in that sense, I think. But it's also cool to see... like some of these chicks like really just adopting the culture. I've seen some girls, I'm like, damn, that girl can kill me, dog. I'm just like a football linebacker. More power to them. Exactly. like, can still, you know, you can look good in different ways. And other certain people are going to appreciate that. Other people are going to still appreciate its own look, you know? Yeah, exactly. But it's just, I like the thought that we had. like, we can just use an actual muscle mommy. No, what? We can use them as tangible evidence. As examples. For like... physically use a muscle market. Okay, can I borrow you for a second? need to show you to my client. Yeah, here. This is what you don't want to be, but look how much they eat. delts? You know how she got these delts? Doing three pound lateral raises. yeah, for 20 reps you're gonna get huge. Bro, what the hell is this? 12 kg? I'm going slow and controlled. Shut up. my god. That's like 80 pounds. Silly. And you got a goblet squat. I'm gonna go get it. What do want? 4, 50, 60. I'll just go whatever's heaviest over there. Okay, that's cool. That's fine. Good idea for once. We gotta do 10 though, right? Yeah, I 10. We're gonna do this light. We'll go for volume. It's nice talking and working out. Yeah. Okay. Wait, what's the other one? Ah. Wow, we went over a lot. Yeah. We did spend a lot of time on the biohacking, I think, makes sense. There's a lot to talk about. I don't even know, I'm just going, I'm not even counting my reps, I'm just ripping it. Three sets here. I don't know if I like any of these other ones. We kind of talked about everything. Damn. We need to think of something on the fly at the end of our workout. Yeah. When I've got no brain cells. Yeah. Well, that's just every day. There's so many trends. So many. There's so many that we can't figure any out. Yeah. Ciao GPT. Help us. Let's do... you know what's interesting? It's kind of like not just Pilates, but like... group fitness in general that's really taking off right now as well like these like you know boutique style studios what do they focus on yeah it's just like small group yeah like groups of like 10 to 20 and it's like most of time it's like functional fitness a little bit of cardio a little bit of strength that's that's a fucking topic yeah you know like that versus functional fitness bro oh just yeah oh yeah you know what that's a huge like a pivot to that the last five, six years. Huge uptick in it. to touch back to what I said about the hybrid athletes, the hybrid athlete being just literally an athlete. Yeah. What is the difference between functional and hybrid? All fitness is functional, Exactly. Or another good one is science-based lifting versus bro lifting. All lifting is science-based. Yeah. All of it is science-based. I never understood that when the dudes are like putting on cuffs and like seat belts and they're doing like you know, you bias the medial head of the bicep if you contract this at a 45 degree angle in the eccentric position, you know what I mean? Like, bro, just fucking lift the weight first off, second off. Progressive overload. Progressive overload. All lifting is science based. Like everything is designed with anatomy, physiology. Yeah. You have like body chemistry. There's just another way of saying like people found a more effective way of doing something. Yeah. Well, like And who's to say that's the most optimal for what you're training for? Like for whatever, maybe there's something more effective in hypertrophy for growing your quads than doing a barbell squat. Sure, of course there is, you isolate it with like a leg extension, for example, but there's nothing to say that a squat's not gonna grow your fucking quads if you're progressively overloading. You know what I mean? like- You're tearing down the goddamn fibers, Yeah, it's the same shit. I think it's like the hybrid athlete thing where people just need to be in a group. I'm a science-based lifter. I don't touch bench or squat because it's not optimal. It's not a uh fatigue to exertion ratio or whatever. Okay, put your glasses on freaking Bruce Banner or whatever. It's again, obsessive, right? That's kind of been like an overarching theme. But like, I will say on the positive end of science-based lifting, people have found like... various ways and angles to target like specific muscles, which is a benefit towards like, like bodybuilding. Yeah. But this is the thing it's for only for bodybuilding. How functional is that? Right? You're really just making yourself look more jacked. Yeah. You should still be focusing on your cardio. You should be focusing on your athleticism, like your explosive movements. Yeah. And then when we go back to the functional training, functional is like the terminology comes from you're working out. to help you your everyday life. But isn't that just all working out? Literally everything. You increase your bone density, you increase your joint stability and capacity. would increase the load that your muscular system can take. Yeah, so it's gonna help you in your real life. People have just found certain ways to almost rebrand or like branch out the overall fitness. To stand out. uh Just lift some weights, Lift some weights, do some cardio, eat well. Yes. Have some fun. You'll be okay. Bro, play some fucking tennis. Yeah, exactly. Just go play some sports. A little pickleball. Oh my God. Have some fun. Yeah, exactly. stressing over shit. Like obsessing over it. yeah, like you said. Just lift some weights, have some fun, feel be crazy? A carnivore hybrid athlete that is science-based lifting. Oh. That's the final boss. with a whoop and a garment and an aura. You know like the Giga Chad? Yeah, that's the final boss. The final boss of this podcast. That's so funny. We gotta like put a picture at the end of video of us decked out and all that just side by side. That'd be so funny. Imagine people listening to this are like, these guys are stupid. Just us two are freaking laughing and everyone else is like, but I'm a science baselifter. 100 % bro, science based. agree. Oh my God. Balance. See, that's not optimal because you have to stabilize and you're not accentuating the moment arm of the quad, the proper position. This is a useless exercise and you shouldn't do it. Yeah, you're not targeting your Antisomus Medialis. Upper Lactisomus dorsi. Yeah, it's crazy. You need to target the Medialis rhombus. Now you're just making stuff up. Phalangeus. Phalangeus. Fingers. Oh. Yeah. And I think it's the same. We were just saying about functional training versus like traditional strength training. At end of the day, everything is functional no matter what. Yeah. Maybe like bicep curls don't translate to everyday life, but they can. And then just like just being stronger in general. Like, like I said earlier, just having stronger bones, stronger joints. Nothing is going to substitute this kind of work. if you want to achieve that. And then this kind of segues into what I just thought of right now. Kind of goes into that idea of people picking a side and staying with it. Yeah. Like, like not willing to expand. Exactly. Like stubborn in their ways. People that are saying, no, I only do Pilates or no, I only run. I've done that before. You know, like, okay, sure. That's great. But Why don't you just do it all for a well-rounded overall, not just overall physique, but life experience. Yeah, I agree. You're really just limiting what you can do. you're saying, no, no, I don't want to go weight lift because Pilates is enough for me. I get this good enough stretch. And don't get me wrong, Pilates is fucking amazing. I love Pilates, especially Reformer. You're targeting different fibers here. and then you are there. At least the way that I perceive it. why not, you know, expand your horizons, do a little bit of everything. And they all tie into each other. Exactly. Having better cardio means you're less fatigued than your strength reps. Was this your third set? Yeah, I think I'm done. I got one more here. Did I do two? You did two. God damn it. Having good mobility. I thought I did three. You know, having good mobility translates to everything. Having good muscular endurance translates to everything. They're all interconnected. Your body's got so many... It's like the multiverse. So many systems. It's like you're playing an RPG. Hit me, hit me with And put all your stats into strength. You got zero agility, zero endurance, zero stamina, zero intelligence, 100 charisma. This is just my stats, by the way. Facts. You know what I mean? Like it's, you know, similar in that way. Little nerdy joke for you there, but... No, you're right. It's like just one, wouldn't you rather be well-balanced and have everything at a decent to a high level versus being extremely good at one thing and really bad. I think in fitness, unless you're very specifically training for a sport. If you're a fricking pro at something. Yeah, completely different. Yeah. Then you have you're just a normal person. You have to train according to specificity, like whatever your sport may be. And then, know, science-based lifting or science-based methods. methodology probably comes way more in handy. But for like the average person, come on. Yeah. Lift some weights, drink your water, eat well, have fun. Have some fun. Working out should be fun. Training is fun. don't have fun anymore. Training is fun. In the gym. No, it's like a chore. are angry here. Well, even some of those like science-based lifters that I've seen on Instagram, a lot of them is like the really young crowd. Not Nippard. Nippard's cool. He's good. But like he sometimes goes a little. tangents, yeah. a little over the top. Some of these science-related, I've heard them like make reels and tech talks where they're like, do you think I like going to the gym? I hate going to the gym, but I go because like, I need to hit my optimal window of hypertrophy between one and 4 p.m. whatever, whatever. Yeah, like, oh, and then I need to drink my protein within 30 minutes. Within 30 minutes, yeah. you don't. Or I need to take creatine, they say exact same time every day, like whatever. You miss a day, it's not gonna fucking kill you. Yeah, exactly. That's what being human is, bro. And I think that takes the joy out of training. It becomes monotonous. That's why I took a break from powerlifting because I was dreading every session. I'd be like, oh great, I worked eight, nine hours, now I also have to train for three hours. I don't know how you did it. It was a year and a half of suffering. I don't know how you The first year was a lot of fun, but then by the third competition that I was training for, I was like, you know what? I think I'm going to stop. You went that far. Yeah. I was only going to do one. I was a one and done. Yeah. You know, get first place in my class and that's it. I'm a consistent third of three. That was good, dude. That was great. Let's cap it there. I'm still do abs. No, no, no. Next time. Next time. Okay. We're already over an hour. Good workout. That was good. Hope you guys enjoyed that. Catch you in the next one. We're not going to do legs for at least four more episodes. That was enough legs for the month. body podcast. Good shit today. That was fun.
