Recording? I think so. Hope so. All right, guys. What's going on? Episode... Cuatro. Four. We got spanners. We finally can start releasing these. Welcome back to Between Sets, guys. We got myself, Vic, and Matt here. Yep. Taking you through another workout and some more chit chat. No more legs. You don't want to do legs again? Dude, I was actually like... I was kind of sore after I was so sore. It was good. From that workout. This shit's gonna like force us to do legs. Yeah, at least once every four episodes. Sounds good. So once a month? So it's like arms, arms, legs, arms. Or upper, upper, lower, upper. I'm down. Alright. So we got a push day today with a shoulder emphasis, shoulder focus. our topic of the day is going to be a fun one that Matt's very knowledgeable in. I don't know anything about it. But you're the absolute master of this. How you're never like, like dead after partying and then training the next day. That's the topic we're going to talk about. Partying versus fitness, is there even a balance? Can you even achieve balance in this? That's our overarching topic of today. And even just like how it affects your training and stuff like that. Some of the hacks that we use to have fun and also make gains. Literally every single aspect of going out, going out with your friends, and then, you know, can you even stay on track? So that's what we're going to talk about today. a challenge. But first, feel like we're still figuring out how to warm up. Our warmups are, we just talk and do random and do random shit. then we start working out. But yeah, let's warm up the upper body, do some pushing, some shoulders. I'll wait for you to finish with the band and then guess we'll do a couple lateral raises while we start talking about this topic. Sounds good. Here, we'll switch. I'm actually excited. First movement is uh incline Smith bench, right? hell yeah. So yeah, nice focus on the shoulders there, little bit of the chest. I had a pretty sick. 100 carb, 100 grams of carbs breakfast. you're gonna get, you're gonna feel pumped today. Dude, and I took pre-workout for the first time in like probably a while. I've just been doing the coffee mostly. Yeah, I stopped taking pre like. Coffee in a little Zimbabwe. Too jittery. Yeah. These days. So, yeah, the pump is gonna be nice today. Nice, dude. We should do legs then. No, absolutely not. Not in these shoes, dude. Oh yeah, nevermind. I need my. so you've achieved that level, Upper body in running shoes now? Who the hell are you, I can't train legs without, like, powerlifting shoes or... Well, of course. Or heels, like, or squat shoes, you know, if I'm squatting. Of course, bro. You need it to be flat. I'm just saying, like... 100%. Now when you come and do upper body, you just don't give a shit which shoes you wear. Just some pressing here. No, not at all. Anyways, you can kind of take it away and then... that topic. Yeah. So I guess, yeah, you... If you listened at the beginning when I said, Matt is the most knowledgeable in this one. Ain't no way. It's probably going to be me this time. You do a very good job. I will say I'm always impressed. Well, honestly, especially on on whoop, because, know, we're in a group and I can always see your recovery. We're in a whoop group. Whoop group. then the next after a weekend and I check the group and I'm 20 percent recovery. This guy went out last night. Honestly, and the fact that I can even. He added it to 20 instead of like one or two. I'm happy with. Do you remember when you hit 1 % and you got that like achievement? It's like, congratulations, you're part of the 1%. The bottom 1%. The opposite 1 % club. It's like, congrats, you're a terrible human. Yeah, you're horrible. But yeah, I know. mean, so obviously the balance aspect, like you're never going to have a perfect balance, right? There's obviously going to be some things you got to sacrifice. on both sides, but it's such a huge topic that we can split it up into like many different sub topics or sub genres. Balance, recovery. Yeah. Or like go to bevies, if you will. Exactly. Yeah. Like people just chugging down like a two, four of beer. Probably not a good idea. You know, you could be a little bit more strategic about it. Do you want to still warm up a bit or should we I'm pretty good. Okay. Yeah. Let's get set up on Chest and upper is a good day, Harold. You wanna head over to the Smith? Sorry. Okay, just checking if it's It's always a good vibe when it's open. Oh, there's no one there. Look at it. It's perfect. And it's set it up real quick. Let's see. So have you have you have you done any partying into training recently? I feel like you mean like going out and then the next day and the next day working or training? Yeah. That's actually a good way to start it. Like that's the most literal way to interpret this topic is like going out and partying and then can you train the next day? And honestly, that really depends how hard you go the night before. There's a lot of strategy involved. Man, I can't figure out this angle. I'm probably just gonna do it like this. I'm gonna zoom out a little bit. Zoom out just a smidge. Just gonna get him away for a second, sorry. I'm gonna grab my phone with the workout. It's why we're running shoes. Good. There we go. I kind of found something pretty cool. We got a heavy six days, so let's do like two warm up sets and maybe go play in a quarter or two plates. Yeah, sounds good. OK, so back to the topic. We kind of took a while to get set up. Yeah, yeah, it's always like that with um essentially like. Hi. uh Yeah, partying and going out just if you think of it. uh in its most basic form, like if we talked the night before, you go out and if you go out with no plan in mind, and your only plan is to like have fun with your friends and just get absolutely plastered or blasted, then, and you have no protocols in mind? For recovery. Bro, the only thing that's gonna help you, at least in my opinion, is your age. Oh, 100%. Like I remember back in university, we would go out, I wouldn't even think about how much I would be drinking. And this is, I'm not bragging by any means. Definitely not bragging. Let's do a quarter. But like the metabolism I feel like was so effective or efficient back then that you could actually get away with like not caring about what you did. And then the next day going to the gym and actually having a decent workout. Sure. as you age and you know we're in our 30s now. Yeah dude, you drink too much and you're out of commission for like three and a half days. Yeah. Three to five business days. So you need to be smart about it, which I think we can also, is it we or is it I? We can give some tips and tricks on like how to actually have a decent workout the next day. Yeah. If you're partying, like let's say you go out on a Saturday night or on a Friday night and you want to work out on the Saturday. theoretically things that you could do to improve your performance. But like, also want to talk about this in a way after we talk about this like Friday, Saturday vibe, I to kind of just talk about it more like generally. Because there's so much that can be said with the whole balance stuff. But yeah, so back with regards to age, like it's pretty simple. When you're younger, you can process all that. yeah, dude. It's a poison. You can process the poison a lot better. Alcohol is poisonous? I thought it was just empty calories. I completely agree with you. yeah, I remember like college and honestly, all of my 20s, you could drink Friday, Saturday and Sunday, still workout Saturday, still workout Sunday on like five hours of sleep, getting like almost blackout half the time and you would be completely... Sometimes blackout. Yeah. And like, yeah, sure though, you would feel a little shitty, but you wouldn't be like debilitated. You know what I mean? Like now if I were to do that and try to train the next day, it would be actually impossible. Like I, yeah, I can't even like just talking about it is stressing me out. Giving you anxiety. Yeah, little anxiety. Yeah, exactly. So yeah, I guess now it's you understand that like the whole age thing. Yeah, I'm into like, let's let's just focus on us now. Yeah. And like things that I would do. First thing is. You need to have a protocol, you need to have some kind of mindset before you go into it. Like, what am I trying to do tonight? Like kind of like pep talking yourself in the mirror even. Yeah, like what kind of night is what are you trying to? Yeah, it's like a wedding. like, OK, I'm probably going to get pretty messed up. Yeah, exactly. if it's just like a casual Tuesday. beers with the boys kind of thing. I don't really do that. That's the thing. Right. That's just me then. So like this goes into the whole balance aspect. Like how often are you doing it? Yeah. Let's do 205 or 225 right away. I'll put on 245 right now, bro. Okay. Let's do it. You just put two tens on top. Now it looks cooler with two plates. Okay. You're right. It does look cooler with two plates. I can't, I can't freaking argue with that one. Yeah. But yeah. So why don't we take me through your protocol and then I'll tell you what kind of like mine similar what I do. I didn't get a plate. I got you. Don't worry. You talk. So yeah, my protocol varies obviously based on like what what I'm doing. But for the most part, there's a few variables. How much sleep am I going to get? That's the most important. Aka how late are we sleeping? Because I feel like absolutely over like very generally speaking, when you party and how, depending how late you party, that's going to impact your recovery the next day. Of course. The highest factor being how much rest you got, right? Right. And being drunk and like partying will already affect things like your HRV, like your resting heart rate, all your like normal immune functions. It won't be as efficient. is deep. Yeah. Exactly. So you'd be like in and out of sleep as it is. Right, right, right. So probably your first thing you'd want to do is prioritize getting as much rest as possible. Okay. That's like number one. Like I would say so. If you can do it at the very least, try to get like six, seven, eight hours. Yeah. Like if you can, that's like the first thing you It's probably not going to be like amazing quality sleep. Yeah. But at least just like try to sleep, you know? That's why day drinking is where it's at, dude. Started like 10 a.m. with some little mimosis. Some little mimosis. Little mimosis and then by your eight o'clock you're feeling good, you can go home. But what happens? get a solid night's On the flip side, what happens when you're day drinking and then you want to just keep it going? Yeah, I've been there. Then you're screwed. Yeah, good point, good point. Then you're just like... Then maybe don't work out the next day. Yeah, you're not. There's no chance in hell. So yeah, number one sleep. Let me just hit this set. Yep. I'll come next. keep talking about the sleep thing. feel like, yeah, a hundred percent that's the most important. I mean, in general with training and recovery, but especially if you're going to be a little randy little guy and party a little too hard. you know, we've both been there for sure. Bro, you keep moving the placement of the bench angle. Sorry, I got to, I'm trying to hit the upper pectoralis. Modalis. Modalis. Lateralis. You know? So then the next thing, that's my first thing in my protocol. Numero uno, sleep. 100%. Got nutrients, supplementation. What are you eating? I'm moving this back, Motherfucker. This is like a guillotine press, What are you eating during the day before going And even just And during. You did it again. Yeah, this is gonna fucking chop my head off. Well, but you're back to being in a weird angle now. It's fine. So obviously being a bit more intentional or cognizant of like the quality of food that you're eating like before going out, you know, that's going to impact your behavior, not just your behavior, but like it's going to impact you. And also impacts the alcohol absorption as well. 100%. Like if you do like little to no food, empty stomach. And then you drink two drinks and you're like, oh my God, I'm wasted. screwed. Yeah, exactly. And you're just like, wait, how did that happen? Oh, I didn't eat. Duh. Yeah. And then I think that kind of snowballs into like, then you're hungry while you're It's the worst. I you're eating garbage food. Absolute trash. Yeah. Whereas if you were eating a nice, healthy diet, whole foods, red meats, proteins, fruits, some veg a little bit. And then you got like your specific carbs, whether it's like a high quality bread or like some white rice, those things are gonna help absorb the alcohol a lot more. And then more often than not, at least I find like when I get back, I don't really like snack. That late night snack doesn't really happen for me. You don't order the two I have pizza like I do? Very rarely. Sometimes. Like not really. I'll focus more so. On the next part, which I think is super important, like supplementation and the type of nutrients that you're in taking after a night of drinking and before. There's a pre and a post. Just like working out. You got your pre, you got your post. um One of the main things being like magnesium. I usually like double or triple load my magnesium after drinking. So let's play yourself. in that position. You went out, you drank, it's a late night, it's 2 a.m. You've had a couple. You've had a couple. This is a heavier night, medium to high night. Yeah, medium to high night. You know that you have to train tomorrow and it's gonna be a bit rough. Yep. You get home, what's your breakdown? What do you do? I grab the biggest glass I can find, fill it up with water, immediately drink it, then I fill it up again. and this is where I'll get my pills and supplements out. Magnesium, normally I'll And even when you're, to cut you off, but even when you're pretty hammered, you still remember to- You're like, gotta get these supplements. Yeah, like there's only like a handful of times where I'll not do it, but it's like just ingrained in me. I've been doing it for so long now that- Is that not, this part of your regular nighttime schedule. You're just increasing the dosages. Adding things to it. Yeah. And then like if it's a heavy night of drinking, I'm sure most people have heard of like liquid IV or like, you know, those electrolytes sodium. Yeah. open it up. Yeah. So that's what I'll put in my second big glass of water. I'll put in all of that. It's not glass. It's two massive jugs of water. I might even do three sometimes depending on the situation. And then I'll chill for a sec. I'll pee. and then I'll go to bed. Right, you're not waking Yeah, sometimes I'm gonna wake up and have to pee again. Especially if drink three liters of water, But like, a lot of times, it doesn't happen for me because I feel like my body might absorb it, you know? Yeah. Like, the max I'll wake up is once. Nice. Maybe that has to do with more things than just absorption. Right. Probably in my 40s, in my 50s. I'm going to be getting up just way more at night to pee. Yeah. Yeah. Get one or two more here. Nice. Okay. Last one. Light. All right. got a Nice. It was a good one. yeah. Hydration is key. I'll take my supplements for sure. Should back slightly. Yep. And then I will. make sure if I have access to it to take like element or liquid IV or even prime makes it like sometimes I mix and match it's just like to get the those nutrients in the sodium yeah all the electrolytes the aminos and sure maybe it's only going to help you like three four or five percent but that's way better than you'll feel not doing it right you'll feel slightly slightly better so yeah your body's going to absorb all of the stuff that it's lacking, and then you're gonna pee the rest out. That's pretty much the routine. It's pretty basic. It's all circled around hydration, drinking a fuck ton of water before bed. But I'm gonna add on to, are we done? Three working sets, so maybe one more each, yeah. I feel like I did three. I'll do another one, I don't care. This feels so good. Yeah, it does feel good today. So back to the topic, only. Drinking alcohol. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I'll mix in a glass of water and that's smart. I I'm one of those people I always forget you have and then you get to a point where you're like, I fucking need water Yeah, like I need water so bad. Yeah, right. I think if you like you know, you just gotta like balance it out. Yeah, also you'll feel better 100 % the recovery is better and also just like you'll feel better through the night You know, people listening to this are gonna be like, what the hell, Victor? Like, this guy's got like a fucking notepad. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's tracking. The Vic protocol. But it's true, though. I'll tell you mine, because it's fairly similar when I can remember it. I'm not as consistent as you because... It's like a 30 % success Yeah, like when I get home after a late night of partying, sometimes it's like you just basically strip down and then just pop into bed. Jump, jump into bed. But then on the other end, sometimes I'll oversupplement. like take supplements I don't even really take normally. This guy's like, what do I got in the cup? I'll open. Yeah, exactly. I'll get home. I probably need that. I'll definitely always do a little, not a little bit, a decent amount of water. Maybe not as much as you. Maybe I should do that. Um, I'll have, yeah, a glass or two of water and then I'll put every supplement in my supplement. Name the stack, name the stack. So obviously my needs, my regular snacks nighttime stack is magnesium, zinc. Sometimes I'll take milk, milk thistle as well, just for the liver. because you're drinking. I gonna mention that that's a special one. Yes, specifically to like liver health, right? Yeah. I'll do one more. And then I'll do the same thing. But then sometimes it's really bad. I'll literally just be like, pull trigger. I'll two vitamin D's, two B12's. I'll take three capsules of Omega. I'll sometimes like take two scoops of creatine. Like I'll just take throw in some ash. I'll just take literally everything and just be like, okay, I pray that I pray that this helps. Yeah. oh That's kind of my strategy. it depends on the- Sears is just like consume whatever's in me. It's like my regular nighttime plus supplements that I don't take by themselves normally because I have them in like a multi-supp, right? But then I'll just overdose on like vitamin D, vitamin C, magnesium. I'll take more magnesium like you said than usual. Yeah. More zinc than usual. And then what I do need to get better at is the electrolytes because I don't really have those on me. I think sometimes I'll do salt water though. They're kind of pricey salt water is good. Like if I don't have electrolytes, I'll do salt water. How much are you willing to invest in your health, bro? Yeah, apparently not that much. um Sometimes I'll do BCAs too, just like randomly. like, but he's getting ready for a workout in his bed. Take pre-workout. No, that's kind of like my routine and I find it helps, but you're still going to feel pretty garbage than I There's no way you're not going to feel something. But it mitigates it somewhat. And it could maybe not be doing anything at all. I think it does, obviously. But I think the doing it helps you be like, OK, I'm not going to be that bad tomorrow. Yeah. Right. And then that's that's just like a regular day. Now we've got to train the next day. That's when things get like. Yeah. Or work, you know, get a little harder. And now we're getting into the next day. So we went through like the types of things you could do during partying when you get home. But then there's the next morning now. So you wake up, let's say we've done that whole protocol, we wake up and we don't feel that great. How can we fix this, mitigate this so that we can still go get in as good of a workout as possible and make some sort of progress? Well, we have to hydrate again. Dumbbell press? Yeah, let's switch. Drink more water, pop in some more electrolytes, drink salt water. increase the sodium. Do the whole nighttime routine in the morning. Except you're not going to be taking magnesium instead. This time you're going to have a nice hearty meal. I was going to say, you're going to pop some creatine now. I think the most important thing the morning is if you're going to commit to training, you're like, need to get this done. You got to eat. You have to eat, yeah. And sometimes I find it's hard in the morning when you feel like shit, you're just so tempted to be like, I'm going to Uber Eats. Yeah, burger or whatever. Because you always hear that, people are like, oh, the best cure is eating something really greasy. What are we hitting right now? Incline, incline press. Ooh, we could do like a fairly high incline. Just incline press? Maybe over there, yeah. We just incline press, Well, was supposed to be seated overhead press, but I choked you. Oh, you switched it up. You know what? Why don't we just do shoulder press here then dumbbell shoulders? Sounds good to me. So I'll go up one angle. Same thing. Let's do a decent. But now we're doing supersets. We got to do a second movement. Why don't we do it with we have a superset press or laterals? Why don't we do? Yeah, we can do laterals. Yeah. So definitely eating the next morning. Super important hydrating. taking electrolytes, basically that whole nighttime routine a second time. There's a bit of a mental aspect involved though, because one of the number one or number two things that is gonna help you to feel a lot better is pushing through that workout. You're gonna feel so much better. Immediately, like you'll feel, don't know, 50 % better. You sweat out all the shit out. It usually sucks at the beginning, but then when you're done, you're like, oh man. That's why Even if it's like- Just moving your body. Exactly. Going for a long walk. Yeah. Getting outside, seeing the sunlight. Getting some sun. Don't lock yourself in the house. If you're blessed with seeing the sunlight, because we're about to not see it soon. Yeah, we've got nine months left. Yeah, get outside, breathe that fresh air, go on a brisk walk, or if possible, rip a run, Running will get your heart rate pumping. It'll get you sweating. Depending on the temperature, you could run with like a sweater on. Yeah. Really force that sweat to happen. The endorphins, the natural endorphins after. Yeah. And make sure you're hydrating, because I've done that before where I've ran posts a partying night, like when we were training for high rocks, where you couldn't miss the runs. But you get such a pounding headache, like so bad. So you got to just like over hydrate because you're sweating everything out. But you're already entering it in kind of like a dehydrated state. Because like no matter, maybe not no matter how much water you drink, but. The water is only helping so much. So much, right? Like you've done so much damage to your body. Yeah. That you're, you're so dehydrated. Which brings the thought of a caffeinating in my head. Yep. Maybe not the best thing to do. Sometimes. Yeah. I think I usually avoid caffeine until a couple hours. Yeah. Like when I start to feel a little bit more like myself. exactly. But, but technically by this point, you will have already gone outside and gotten some movement in, right? Yeah, yeah. So then afterwards it would be okay. But most people after like a long night of drinking or partying or whatever, quite a bit heavier. Yeah, let's go a little heavier. Like 55? Yeah. The first thing they'll do is make that fresh hot pot of coffee, right? Which is probably not Yeah, it's almost like a... Hangover ritual. Exactly. And then, God, I need coffee. need coffee. I need an injection in my was a bad choice. Literally. And then they'll, they'll go for like, obviously we like this kind of breakfast. The toast. Yeah, bacon, eggs, That's like the hangover meal right there. If you're going to go that route, you're probably not going to lift that. You're not going to work out. Yeah. That's a day where you're like, all right, I'm going to stay home. What you could do, what I would do on a training day before it eating that type of heavy meal, because that's going to want to keep you like indoors on the couch and whatnot and just like vegetating. I would probably go for like fruits. Stay light. Don't fill the tummy too much. I said tummy. I love like any kind of berries, bananas, great potassium, any fruit that you can peel. Yeah, bananas, oranges, tangerines, clementines. What if you're too hung over to peel it? Like you're so hung over. Like, I can't peel this. Eat it with the skin. Just yeah. Raw dog. oh If I ever see you bite into an orange like an apple, I might never talk to you again. Oh yeah, pump is happening. I'll grab those real quick. Yeah, I feel pretty much the same with next day. Just eat, eat as nicely as you can, like clean, hydrate, do all that. that obviously you have to go into your workout with the expectation that it's not going to be. Amazing probably as optimal as it usually is but you can do everything in your power to make it manageable And you'll feel much better It's definitely doable. Yeah You can go out and you can train the next day 100 % People who that say bro I've done fucking berries the next day. Yeah, that's crazy, I Don't think I'd be able to any funny story this is probably because what we're gonna get into like the types of partying as well. Most of the times like a majority of the time the type of partying I do already incorporates a lot of movement. Yeah. Because I'm dancing. We're dancing. Yeah. Yeah. I'm part of the rave culture or whatever. to speak. Yeah. So if you're dancing you're burning a shit ton of calories already. So you're technically already doing some form of fitness. Yeah. So I feel like that kind of helps your body. I feel that also like little primed for the next Metabolizes the alcohol much faster. because you're not sedentary. Like I said, you're always drinking water too. Yeah. At least I am. Yeah. of people aren't. But you got to make that a priority. Yeah. So funny story now. I went a little hard one night and I was feeling a little bit queasy. Yeah. I was like, no, I got it. We said we booked berries. This is in We're not going to cancel it. V was feeling good. And I'm like, I'm not feeling that great. I got to push through it because I know I'll feel better afterwards. Berries is crazy. So I like slug my way all the way over to Berries. We get in there, start warming up maybe like five, 10 minutes into it. Like I'm kind of like fighting like a little queasy feeling. then I start getting in the groove and it's like a snowballing effect. You keep pushing, you keep moving. Make sure you have your water there. And obviously if things go to shit, run to the bathroom. Yeah, obviously. But there's a big... There's a big like mentality part of it. Anyways, long story short, I finished the workout. I felt probably like 60 % better. I go outside, I look at the sun, I'm like, wow, I'm reborn. You know what? I've actually had some workouts where I did party a little bit the night before and forced myself to come in maybe later, maybe in the afternoon after I've woken up and recovered. That's a really good workout. long as you get your ass there. I've had some solid lifts. Like I think it's also cause like you, you kind of were those on nights you had pizza the night before. Hell yeah. I carved up. I think it's cause you get over the, the getting over the mental thing, think propels you sometimes into a really good workout. Cause you're like, Holy shit. Like I thought I was going to die today, but I'm actually feeling really good. So I've had good workouts, but I've also on the flip side off, but pushed myself and felt like I was going to die. during the workout, but you always feel better after. So balance is possible. that way, that being said though, like, you know, you don't want to party three, four or five days a week and try to train every time it's, it's going to outpace your ability to make any gains or recover properly. Right? That's when we, we talk about strategy protocol. Like you know you're going to go out once as doable. If you're going on a fricking bend like a three day bender, yeah, you're not going to say bro say sayonara to your fitness goals. 100%. You're not you're definitely not going to be as optimal like being able to work out because you're going to be in such a deprived state. Dehydrated, anxious. Probably the main thing you need to focus on is just getting as much rest as humanly possible. Yeah, that's when you're just in straight recovery mode. Yeah, totally agree. This is a area that I know well as well. So like for music week or whatever, you know, it's going to be a straight week of like partying constant events. Yeah. You got to pick and choose your battles. But I remember a few years ago where we would do like five days in a row. Yeah. Six days in a row, maybe. That's crazy. And I was still doing all my protocols and stuff. We would maybe squeeze in like one or two workouts because Like I said, we kind of prioritized sleeping, like it's more so just to get the body moving. You know, you're you're not like going to hit your PR that time or whatever. You're not going to like hit certain benchmarks that you want to hit. It's almost a just good for your brain and your body. Exactly. Yeah. Versus rotting. Exactly. Rotting is way worse. It fucks up with your brain. Honestly, like I've been there where I've drank so much and partied so much that no matter the protocol, like I just can't get myself to the gym. And those times happen. And it does. You have to accept that. But then you spend your entire day in bed or on the couch ruminating. And then you just feel like absolute crap for the next two to three days. Yeah. So I think by training even a little bit or moving, you mitigate to get outside. Yeah. You mitigate the length of the hangover, especially in, like you said, in your thirties, like really bad hangovers last like three, four days. Yeah. Like sometimes on my whoop, my recovery will be low for like a week before it starts to climb back up. Even though I might feel better. Like internally, your body hasn't recovered from last set. Last set. last thing I want to talk about, the types of drinks. Okay, so do this. was going bring that up. There's so many ways you can drink and be more responsible. Yeah. Here, that's what I was going to bring up next. Like what are your go-to bevies and like... what you kind of stay away from. Yeah. So I'm sure you and me are the same in the sense because a lot of these times that we're talking about, we're together. So, but tequila soda, lime baby. That's the goat. If you're doing hard liquors, uh I always like to do white liquors like vodka tequila, always like sodas instead of like vodka, vodka, Coke or vodka, cran. know what I mean? Like always have so like sugar free and calorie free mixers. The second you mix the sugar with the liquor, you're screwed. Yeah, I think if you just kind of stick to one drink, maybe if you deviate one or two beers or a glass of wine, it's not that bad, but when you start to do like everything. Oh, if you have just no goal and you're just like going, yeah, you're done. There's no protocol is going to save you. Like you've had sugar, you've had wine, you've had everything like beers, liquors. And then you also go to bed late and you don't sleep. Yeah, you're screwed. Good luck. That's why you have to have some form, some sort of plan. Sorry? Plan. And what's the word I'm looking for that I'm blanking on? Finish my sentence, bro. Dude, I don't I got workout brain. It'll come through. But yeah, I agree. yeah, so usually when I go out. Discipline. Discipline. we go. Consistency. Discipline, consistency, that's all it is. Literally, literally in every aspect, even partying. Yeah. Where you see your friends are like, we're very consistent partiers. cutting me off. Sorry. Where they, uh they're like going to the max and beyond the max. Yeah. And they're like, I don't care. I'm staying up as late as possible. They just don't stop. You need to have some, some love for yourself and be like, you know what? I had a good night tonight. I don't need to see Jesus. So I'm going to stop. that end, think having the ability to know when to stop is super important. I know, know, for me, most people don't know when to stop. so bad with that because I like just love being with friends and having fun. It's like 2 a.m. Yeah. It's like I should go home. We're like, do you want to go to our condo and keep drinking? I'm like, hell yeah. Let's keep going. Those are the nights where you have to kind of like be like You got to make a choice. The hard cut off, would say four, three, four. Don't go past four. Nothing good happens after four, bro. Yeah. Like like four is already really, really late. Yeah. That sometimes I'm like, I'm looking at the clock. It's two thirty. Like I can go a little more. Let's leave at three. The second it starts getting close to four, I'm like, no, we got it down. That's too much. So yeah, especially like back to that balance. If your sleep schedule like us, we done. That was three. Yeah. Well, we kind of I stole a super such a let's do face pulls and maybe bar our front race. It's a good call. All right You said tequila soda lime. Yeah, I'm do you one better You ever I've had you try Tequila soda with uh Coconut water, right? yeah, that was so interesting with yeah, it's it's more strategic than anything You were saying that tequila soda. No, sorry tequila coconut water. Yeah, it's with soda with soda Yeah, all you're combining all of them. Nice. Yeah, cuz coconut water has a good a very good for hydrating Right. Right. Yeah any kind of any kind of agave tequila I feel is like the number one alcohol you could go for and then the secondary is like the vodkas the liquors Probably wine is second or third. Yeah, well, it's not the worst Beer is not good. Any of those sugary ones are the worst. Beers and cocktails, like mixed drink The mixed ones in the can. Yeah. you're gonna like, the Hey Y'alls or like Twisted Tea. Bro, I've seen people that drink like 20, like 18 Twisted Teas in a day. I'm can I be honest with you? I had like four Twisted Teas last night when we were playing Battlefield. They are the worst. There's like so have a bit of a headache today. Yeah, I think it's like 120 grams total that I consumed. Yeah. And see transparency, I'm honest. don't even, I don't even get that in like three days. That's your sugar allotment for the year. So yeah, obviously knowing what you're taking, intaking is gonna help you massively. Yeah. That's why I'm a big fan of tequila. Like most of the time I'll just be like, someone will be like, what are you drinking? a tequila. hands down best. Sure. I like a cheeky beer here and there maybe to start the night off, but. I'm not drinking that all night. There's no way. Plus the carbonation will absolutely destroy my stomach. so bloated too. Yeah, the bloat. So yeah, you got to be smart, intentional with what you're drinking and then you'll feel a lot better the next day. Yeah, 100%. I think a lot of people have issues with that because you know, you're not always in a setting where having like tequila shots is appropriate. Like if you're in a bar watching the game, you're probably gonna be drinking beers with the boys. You know what I mean? bars can provide you tequila soda lime. There's also decent, I would say decent beer options, light options. Maybe just order it in secret. Order it in secret so your buddies don't make fun of you, right? Just put this in the glass. Can I get an M G D light? Yeah. That's pretty much it. Um, agreed. There's just social, like there's just so much social pressure sometimes where people, it's so hard to be the guy who's be like, No, I'm only gonna have a couple or yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Not that I'm ever that guy. Come on. You only live once. And you're like, bruh, I'm trying to be fit. Yeah. It's like, oh, exercise isn't that it's not that important. Hang out with your buddies tonight. Right. Sure. Sometimes. Yeah. Special occasions. Yeah. But the thing is, it's so you got to pick and choose your battles. There's that whole thing of boundaries. And like, sure, maybe you have to skip out on a couple events. Yeah. And you're going to feel bad about it. You might disappoint some friends, but yeah, you got to pick and choose like what's worth it to you to put that investment of the hell is this? What's this light ass weight? I do warm up session. Even though we've been working out for like 40 minutes. Yeah, you got to pick and choose your battles for sure. And then it depends on how important your goals are to you, right? Like. Of course. If you're in the camp where you're like, man, no matter what I'm doing, I can't lose weight and all this. And then I know you and you're drinking three days a week, even if it's like a beer or two a night. And then on the weekends you drink more and yeah, maybe you're working out, then like probably not tracking your calories. You're probably not including your beverages in your macro count. Like there's so many factors that go into it. Like I remember so many times in the past where clients have been like, They'll just cut out alcohol for like a month. They're like sober. I feel so good. Yeah, they're like, oh, my skin's clear. I've lost like 10 pounds. And I'm like, they're like, I don't know what I'm doing different. I'm like, you haven't had a drink in six weeks. Yeah. Maybe it's that bottle of night, Susan, that you have every night. You know mean? I don't have any clients named Susan. I hope in the future if I do, I apologize in advance. You know what I mean? Yeah, 100%. So yeah, with the goals thing, like if you're just trying to do A nice healthy lifestyle or like have a fitness regimen that you're not necessarily training for something or you're not locking in and like say you're not on a three month diet plan to prep for this Men's Shazik show or whatever. Completely different. Right? Like I say, I'm an average person. Yeah. Hey, no, no. You can be above average, bro. Frickin above average, what are you talking about? Yeah, no, just like an everyday workout program. someone who likes to work out. exactly. 100 % doable. You have some goals. 100%. You can do it for sure. And that's where it comes back to like the balance. Yeah. You know? You don't need to be a frickin health and fitness Nazi, like not going out and having fun with your friends. Yeah. You should be able to. In fact, you should every now and then. You just need to know what to do and when to do it. You need to have these like little checkpoints in mind. Yeah. Well, that's control. It's gonna set you up so much better. I think also than just going in blinds, absolutely lighting it up each time. It's just, there's just mental aspects to it. Yeah. I think people, uh, take it just to extremes, right? All the time. And that's what I was getting to. It's either I get blackout drunk or I don't drink at all. Exactly. You know what I mean? And then like they'll, they'll drink and then not work out for days. Cause they're and then they'll, they'll be off track and then it ends up really being a mind fuck because people are like, you get depressed. You're like, Oh, I have to, I've lost all my gains. You hear this all the time with clients when they come over after a weekend, they're like, Oh my God, Matt, I ate so bad. I drank so much. I feel so fat. I'm like, Hey, it's been two days. You're going to be okay. First of all, chill, chill. Exactly. Like let's get back on track. Yeah. Yeah, you fall off you get back on that brings me back to what I was I I didn't really fully touch on it. I think I hit a set or something. Yeah, but the the fact that like these opportunities are So present they're so ever present these days. Yeah to actually go out with your friends because a lot of people When it when Friday hits when Saturday hits like that's the first day they're like We're going out, we're having fun. So there's not like there's a lack of opportunity. It's like those memes you see where people are like 5 p.m. on a Friday, they crack open a beer, they got like two beers. Five p.m., what are you talking about, two p.m.? I'm just kidding. You know what I mean, right? Yeah, so like it's not like there's gonna be a FOMO aspect because there's always gonna be the next time where you can meet up with your friends. You have to be a little smart here, you can't go out all the time. That's what we mentioned at the beginning of today's thing. There's going to be some sacrifices that you have to make on both ends in order for this symbiotic balance relationship to work. You can't, you can't go to every single event and expect to be making progress, building muscle, whatever your goal is. So there's a, there's a bit of give and take. You have to level set your expectations a little bit. A hundred percent. And then yeah. And then like I said, with the extremes. I've been on the opposite extreme where, like when, you know, obviously I was prepping for a show, so it's a bit different. But when you're like, you're like, I can't go out, I can't drink, I can't see my friends. Because you know, if you put yourself in that environment, you're not gonna be able to control yourself or you'll just feel like left out. You know what I mean? Yeah. And it's, I've been there where I've gone out like during prep and I brought my own meals to like restaurants and stuff. And now I realized looking back on it, was like- silly. It's kind of ridiculous. If you're locking in that hard, just go with the lock in and just commit to it. It's not going to be forever. Yeah. Well, like we're speaking just in generalities here. Like, is it possible to be a healthy person, you know, or like be in shape? Be a healthy degenerate. I think it's very possible. 100 percent. And then when you have time, I'm hovering around like pretty normally or like just under 13 % body fat while doing this. Yeah. But in order to get to this point, you need to be like, you need to have all of these protocols and ideas in mind that will allow you to still be effective. Yeah. With whatever you're doing. And I think from the aspect of just you and me specifically, I'm a personal trainer or someone who you know, teaches people how to apply this. No worries, you're good. Come on, go ahead. Yeah, yeah, you're good. Where's next? You need to lead here. Still here. We have cable overhead. Nice. Oh, triceps. That's one of my favorites. dumbbell rear delt. But I want to swap that for bias. Remember, I want you to do bias. want to do Buddy wants eight arms today. So why don't we do the overhead superset with just a cable. OK. Classic cable curl three by 12. But yeah, like what I was saying is. We need to be able to lead by example as well, right? 100%. Like you want to tell your clients, be like, don't drink, don't do this, don't do that. And then they see us on social media doing shots at 3 a.m. you know, so, but I think to that end that also if we can do it ourselves and be balanced and still in relatively good shape and healthy and fit, then it shows our clients that it's more, you're totally good, dude. It's on the whole time. You're good. It shows us that we're you know, able to maintain balance. Yeah. But also at the same time, I don't know about you, but from my clients, I do not preach that they shouldn't be drinking. No, I never tell them like, you need to, okay, you need to be aware of what you're about to do. Yeah. That's going to help you so much more moving forward. And you need to make sure that you're freaking drinking water. Yeah. Where we keep the well. Yeah, so out back from that social pressure, like the setting boundaries, but you got to also think like long term. Yeah, right. You can achieve quite a lot just chipping away, making one getting 1 % better every day. Small gains. And that is 100 % achievable if you have some fun here and there. Obviously with a grain of salt, you're not freaking having too much fun. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a plan. Dude, everything in this whole like balanced lifestyle is you just have to have a plan. Everything needs to be accounted for. I agree with you're saying you need to have a plan for sure. No, but like think long term. Yeah. Well, fitness in general is long term. Exactly. So if you have that mindset in mind, everyone thinks the opposite these days. It's like I need to do this in two months. Yeah, it's like that. So this level of physique in two months and okay, maybe it's in your best interest to just focus on that and not do anything else. You know, yeah, I think there's going to be peaks and valleys in your journey. And if you set yourself a realistic, like one, two, even three year goal, like I want to put on 20 pounds. Yeah, you can a hundred percent do this. You can have a few setbacks. Yeah. Use these protocols. It's incremental gains. Exactly. Yeah. Man, why is everything so light? Trying go for a little pump-a-lumpa. You're making me look bad. Still think that would be a great pre-workout. Pump-a-lumpa. Bro, I came up with that name in like... Years. I remember you told me years ago. What was it like? 2016 or 2017. I've been made up a mock-up of like a jacked Oompa Loompa on a protein on a tub. I'll call it myself orange for that product shoot. Okay. Question for you kind of going back to what we were talking about earlier. I just thought of it randomly on this topic, but have you ever tried those? I see it on Instagram all the time. Those like hangover cure pills or drinks, which I think at the end of the day are probably just like electrolytes and stuff. It's essentially a of option of like most of the things I'm taking. Yeah. With a few extra ones. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I have not tried it. I'm so curious. like it won't make much of a difference than what my current protocol is, but I'm open to trying it. I just haven't like, yo, someone give me a free pack to try. Sponsor me. 100 % because especially with like the type of lifestyle that I have with the know the DJ's, partying and all that stuff and the dancing. I just like to hang out with my friends and drink. Yeah it probably is the same exact thing lots of magnesium in there probably some sodium maybe maybe they even have like dopamine you know dopamine regulators. Regulators right right so you're not you're serotonin and dopamine is not like Cause that's another thing that could be affected big time. Oh, yeah. Well, that's how you feel depressed. Anxiety, all that stuff. So you want to mitigate that as much as possible. Right. Your nervous system is just cooked. Absolutely. Cause when your thoughts are bad, your performance is bad. Yeah. You got to be positive. You got to not have that those issues. Let me hit this set. Yeah, I'll talk. There's another one I'm thinking of too as an option. How do you feel about having like the Alcohol free drinks, but that point is just calories. What's what's the point? Yeah, you might as well just drink you might as well just have a couple drinks I might as well just have water or to maybe people who are like on the far end where they're just like You know borderline alcoholism then it's like okay, that's to get the it's like a smoker quitting or like a sin or whatever I've never done sins before in my life That's the next topic. Oh god. Who will have you talking the whole day? That's part of my, that's actually part of my recovery process. How do think I make it through the night? I go through 12, 12, 12 zin, zin pouches in the evening. So funny. All right, last one. I think that was your third, right? Yep. Okay, so I'm done. And then wait, this might be my second. I think it's your third. Because you complained about lightweight on the first two. Um, this is my second. Oh, okay. Am I ahead by one? I'll do one. I'll do one more. yeah. Nice inclusion of the biceps. We can finish the shoulders on the turf. We'll just get some light plates. Like plate front raise, lateral raise, into pushups. We already did the laterals. Let's do plate front raise, driver, and pushups. Bus driver? this one? Okay, yeah. I'm down. I think that's the correct name. It's called the bus driver. Physiologically, yeah. 100%. think that pretty much covers it dude. Is there anything else that kind of on this topic that comes to your mind? Trying to think right now. I think I missed something. Oh, I mean, there's also like a seasonality to it. my God, like summer. Yeah. Your patio season. holidays. This goes with the idea of like everything has its own time kind of thing. you... airport. It's just, you just have to think. Yeah. People don't think enough. You need to think about what you're about to do. The planning. understand. You need to plan. It's kind of just like people do it and then be like, why do I feel so garbage the next day and I haven't worked out in three days. Exactly. So like obviously you know summer, the good vibes in the summer. You're probably going to be more inclined to hanging out with your friends, you know, maybe getting into it a little bit, partying, all that stuff. Let's go do this last one on the turf. I'm pretty sure I have one more. Oh shit, sorry. This guy is just focusing on him. I am him. Whoa. Yeah. And then like, you know, for us, the seasons change quite a bit here, right? So like in the winter, you have more opportunity to zero in if you wish. Yeah. Has to be part of your goals. What is your goal? What do want to do? Do you want to just like train, eat healthy, have some fun every now and then? Perfect. You're freaking good. Like, I think. I'm a pretty good example of that. Yeah. I'm always impressed at how you go, I see you go out at night and then you're in the gym the next morning. I've seen that. That's, you know, that's just straight up. That's just what I am. I'm not gassing myself up or anything. I'm just saying like, if you have the discipline and if you have the mindset, sometimes I just- like more than half the battle. I just hear David Goggins in my ear. Telling me that I'm a little bit- Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Who's gonna carry the boat? You had nine drinks last night? So what, bitch? Yeah, exactly. Have you seen my foot? It's a way to train yourself, because you're clearly gonna be suffering a lot more because there's consequences to what you've done. But the act of going through that worst workout and suffering through it is gonna pay dividends in the long like doing hard things. It's part of the doing hard things. It strengthens that part of your brain where... part of your brain is it? The uh medulla oblongata. I think that is a part of the brain, I just made it up. The frontal occipital lobe. They're on the opposite sides of the brain. It's fucking hilarious. Happy birthday! Happy birthday. How are you? Good, how are you? I'm good. I'm old. How old are you now? 29? Yeah. Let's go with that. Happy birthday. Oh, yo, sun's out, bro. We got to do it with the light on us. Hell yeah. Hell yeah, dog. Hell yeah, dog. my God, it's so warm outside. It's quite nice today. this is some nice lighting right here. You said you want a plate for the bus driver? Maybe I get 25, one of those, or 50. What are you doing with that, with 10 pounds? Lateral, rear delt, and then that. I was gonna do lateral for 12. Isn't it Arnold Press? No, Arnold Press was earlier, it was with the shoulder, it was- You just decided to take it out? Yeah, it was like shoulder press superset with Arnold Press. I was gonna do that with 15s. The Arnold, or the lateral combo? 100%. Why don't you start then? Okay. Okay, you get a plate. 15? Yeah, I think 15 is good. We just rip three rounds real fast, like a you go, I go kind of thing. Yeah. All go for it. I guess I get to tell some stories. Oh man, Shelf. All minor. Well, like also with the DJing aspect, like it's kind of hard to balance. I'll usually schedule my workouts around my recovery. Like for example, on Friday night, I went and I had a gig from 10 to two in the morning. Yeah. Get home. I'm not in bed by like three, 3.30 most nights. So I know that the next day I'm probably gonna have a slower workout. If not put that as my rest day and then day after that was gonna be my rest day, I'll swap it. Yeah, yeah, like be strategic about it. Yeah. Yeah, I think you gotta listen to your body to some extent for sure. There's many ways to go about it. You could be a straight up savage and not listen to your body. You're gonna hurt 10 years down the line, but it's still possible now. Just have a controlled aspect to everything you do. You don't have to be so stringent. Am I doing this now? Yep. And then the plates. I feel like if anything, unless if you're prepping for something like a competition or you're an athlete or whatever, then sure, of course. But like, I find that sometimes having that mindset of like, I got to work out tomorrow. I can't do this. maybe will be more negative to you than good. Yeah, because then you're gonna start beating yourself up about missing events and yeah, it's like we were saying earlier, it's that, yeah. How much am I driving? I don't know, I do maybe like 10 to 12 of these, every alternation is one. Oh man. All right, let me rip a quick set. One set. Okay, dope. Just the finisher. Yeah, just the finisher. 2.30, you gotta get out here now. Yeah, we gotta go crack a beer. I was literally saying, should we have ramen and beers after this? See, balance. Don't tempt me with a good time. We train and then we go drink. Yeah, that was fun, dude. It a good chat. Good workout. Also a great push pump. Yeah, it was a good one today. I feel like I missed some things. I missed a few things that I wanted. the touch on, but hey. mean, that's the whole thing, right? We're just chatting. So I think like, yeah, the take, the takeaway is listen to your body balance. Maybe you have to be a little bit more disciplined, a little bit more motivated. Discipline is huge. a good protocol before and after during as well. Hydrate all of the above. As long as you're cognizant of what you're about to do, you have a plan. That's it. Yeah, I agree. I agree. And just watch what you're putting in your body. That's a good rule. Eat well. In general. Just drink tequila. Yeah, just drink tequila. Yeah, don't, if you're going to drink, maybe don't eat burgers, pizza and hangover food in that 48 hour span. Try to keep it as healthy as possible. If you're going to do damage to your body with the alcohol, at the very least you can control everything else. You know what mean? Good workout today. gotta drive one more bus. Alright, I'm gonna put these weights away. oh What are the top three, top three keys, top three takeaways? Number one, hydration. Number two, plan. Your plan, which encompasses how you behave that night, the protocol of what you intake before and after when you get home. And three is sleep. Sleep is number one. Sleep is one, hydration is two. Discipline is the overarching umbrella. The encompassing umbrella. There you go. Holy. So yeah, it's. You could totally balance it. Yeah. 100%. You know what? This motivated me to have a drink today. Let's go have a drink. I'm down. See you guys in the next one. Peace. Did you that one straight? Yeah. Nice.
