Grief is inseparable from love, revealing both its cost and its depth through the example of Christ’s sacrifice. Rather than avoiding it, embracing grief shapes a heart capable of deeper obedience, surrender, and Christlike love.

Think about it. Jesus knew betrayal. He knew rejection. He knew the weight of sins of every person who ever existed, pressing down on his shoulders, and yet he walked straight into it. The grief he carried wasn't abstract. It was crushing, heavy, it was so real. And it was a part of the love that he has for you.

So if you want to follow Him, prepare for grief. Prepare to see the raw reality of life, sin, and sacrifice. Prepare to be broken so that you can be reshaped. The cross wasn't painless, it wasn't convenient, it wasn't easy. And neither is the kind of love that truly reflects God.

Okay, guys, it's still just Kayla, but I promise you in a couple days, Kendra will be back. I absolutely promise you, mostly because I get so lonely when I'm recording these by myself. Typically, Kendra and I are like laughing so hard, but life has just been super busy for both of us. We have a lot of things on our calendar and it's spring break. And so we're getting through this week. It will be me solo, and then she will be back very soon. This is definitely another one of those hits you in the gut kind of reflections that grief isn't optional, that if you're capable of love, then you're capable of grief. I think that a lot of us, I know I myself have in the past, tried to live through rose-colored glasses and thought there will be no pain, there will be no struggle, there will be no grief when in all reality I've switched that viewpoint. I've been challenged through it, but thinking about it instead as what an absolute honor and privilege it is to love so deeply that you experience grief so deeply. And she's incredible. Our grandma's ninety-four, almost ninety-five, and she has been an absolutely amazing pillar of our Catholic faith. And she's one of my people. She is my person. Like we are we're close. And the thought of you know, let's be realistic, she's not gonna be here for another twenty years. But the thought of I've gotten thirty four years with her. And I have learned so much. It's it's just it's what an incredible love that is. So a few years ago we lost my grandpa, her person, my grandma's person. She spent over 70 years with him. And she has been so sad since he passed. And what an incredible privilege that was that she loved my grandpa so so deeply, still does, absolutely still does, that she also is navigating grieving losing him. And so when people experience immense grief, our own little community here has been struck by tragedy in the past, and it is so hard. It's so hard, and yet I know that it can be such a moment of celebration. What an incredible privilege it has been to love so deeply. I think as human beings, we forget that our feelings and what we experience does not exist in a vacuum. That grief and love can be experienced at the same time, that grief and joy can be experienced at the same time. One of the things I love to do with my clients is we talk about the Venn diagram and how grief, sadness, sorrow, heartbreak, all of those can exist in one of the circles. And yet on the other side, rejoicing, happiness, peace, mercy, all of those things can exist in the other circle, and right in the middle of the Venn diagram is where we are. And that you can experience both and experience grief, but also experience true, genuine peace that is only going to come from our Lord.
