The Weight of Every Step

Jesus carries the weight of suffering and love with every step toward the Cross, inviting us to walk with Him in faith and endurance. In doing so, we learn that true strength comes from embracing our struggles with courage and allowing them to transform us

Jesus does not rush. He absorbs the shame, the jeers, the cruelty, the silence of those who turn away. Every step is a choice to love, to obey, and to endure. Every step is a mirror for us. Will we carry our own crosses faithfully or stumble under the weight?

But that's exactly the point. God does not ask us to carry lightly. He asks us to carry with him to the cross that reshapes our hearts, to let the pain refine our love. Every step prepares us for the glory that only comes after suffering.

Hello, friends. It is Kayla Solo. I know Kendra has shared in the past couple episodes that she is transitioning to a new job soon. And she's got a lot of different things going on and preparing to move jobs and things like that. So I told her I could pick up the slap for a couple of these episodes during Holy Week. And I promise, come Holy Thursday, Good Friday, all of those, we will be together and recording. But I did tell her I could cover. So you just get mean today. However, I feel like today's reflection is super powerful. The weight of every step. Thinking about what Jesus goes through on Good Friday, thinking about what He went through for me. It seriously renders me speechless sometimes. When you think about the weight of that cross and how our sins made it even heavier, and that it is an opportunity to be stripped raw to surrender what we think we can control and to truly just thank Jesus for what he did for us. It's one of those things where in this life there are situations where we have to make one of two choices. We either choose to seek the world and the answers that it gives, or we can see a hardship and something difficult as a way to grow closer to Christ and to meet Him. With the weight of our own cross. So this kind of brings to mind this past weekend I was speaking in South Dakota and I shared a story about how I wasn't aware that I was the yelling mom. I wasn't aware that I was the mom who really truly seemed like she didn't enjoy motherhood at all. There were definitely parts a few years ago that were hard for me, but I felt like I was doing okay. And life circumstances happened. And I had a friend who lost her son in an accident, in an automobile accident. And it was through his death and a subsequent incredibly hard conversation with my husband about how I truly did seem like I didn't want to be in the family that I'm in, like with my husband and with my children. He told me, he shared, that he felt like I just wanted to constantly be going so I didn't have to be home. And then we had this super uncomfortable conversation about how I yelled all the time. And I know now, plain as day, and I was able to share this with my friend a few weeks ago in Utah, that I mourn the loss of her son, and I also celebrate because it helped me have a conversation with my husband that truly was an opportunity for me to pick up my cross and to meet Jesus with it. That I didn't want to be the mom that was yelling. I didn't want to be the mom that was angry all the time. But it took a super, super hard, uncomfortable conversation and a breakthrough. And I could have chose to live according to the world. But it was an opportunity to meet Jesus right where I was, pick up that cross of motherhood was hard. I felt like I was yelling all the time. And in all reality, it was an opportunity for my faith to fortify and to receive more of God's grace. Even though it was super embarrassing and hard for me to swallow. So I think the fact that the cross reshapes our hearts and every step prepares us for the glory that comes only after suffering. If I wouldn't have gone through the suffering of having a very uncomfortable conversation with my husband about my yelling and how angry I was all the time, I feel like I would not be the mom that I am today. But it took my pride dying, it took me being stripped raw, it was painful, it was uncomfortable, and yet I'm so, so glad that that conversation happened.
