Feel the nails, feel the thorns, feel the weight of your own heart as it presses down on his. Let it crush you, let it break you, and then let it remake you. The cross doesn't ask for your understanding. It asks for your surrender. And in that surrender, you will touch a love so fierce, so raw, so infinite, it will shatter every part of you and rebuild you into something you never imagined.

Good Friday always, always makes me emotional. Always. Even when I was little, I remember when we would read the Passion at Good Friday service, and you know, there'd be like 40 people there total because we were in this big huge country church. But I remember like getting a lump in my throat, and I have it right now. The part in the passion where the two prisoners, the two sinners on either side of Jesus, one of them taunts him and the other one defends him. And Jesus says to him, Truly, today you will be with me in paradise. It is hard to articulate what this day does to me as a person who sins. I think today is absolutely a day of reverence. A day of reflection, a day of silence.

I just know if that was my kid. I don't think I could be like Mary.

I get it. I think that's I think that's why the rosary is so incredible. And I think that's why you and I have really leaned into it. Because no, we'll never be as amazing as Mary, but we can always show up and try to do better. I think another thing is we very much live this life seeking comfort often. And where we're told don't look away, don't rationalize, let the raw reality of love outpoured pierce our souls. Like stand there, trembling, broken. Stand there, be present, lean into the discomfort of sitting in silence today. Lean into the discomfort of fasting today. I'm going to try really hard to only have water and bread today. Because, like I texted you a couple days ago, if Jesus was tough enough to hang on that tree for me, I can show up and fast and have reverence today.
