Hello, mommies. I'm Emily. And I'm Ellie. And this is Mama Needs a Minute. Have you listened to Noah Khan's new album? No. Well, if you have daddy issues, actually, speaking of Father's Day, that's a good one to listen to. Because I feel like I think he has daddy issues. I feel like he writes a lot about like that. I'm a new I'm a new Noah Khan fan. Noah Khan fans don't come at me. I just know he loves his mommy. And I think maybe he has some daddy issues, or just maybe he just loves his mommy a lot and the dad kind of gets a side piece. But you do listen to his music at all? I haven't really listened to the new album, but Nora was obsessed with that one song.
SPEAKER_02Was it like Season of the Sticks? Yes. Yes.
SPEAKER_00I was obsessed with that song. Me too. It was a good song. I actually got pulled over on my way to Florida for a vacation a few years ago when that song first came out. And when the officer pulled me over, I he was like, Why are you speeding? And I was like, Oh my God. Like honestly, I was on my fourth re-listen of Noah Khan's Season of the Sticks. I was like yelling in the car. I didn't realize I was going as fast as I was. I bet you didn't get a ticket. I didn't get a ticket. No, that's the key.
SPEAKER_02If you ever get pulled over, you have to make them like, and this might be true, like it was for you, but even if it's not true, make sure that you make it sound like you weren't paying any attention. You didn't genuinely didn't.
SPEAKER_00If you're like, I am running so late to pick up my kid, no. Okay, but that didn't work for me at one time, and I'll tell you what happened. I was coming home from a daylight savings shift. So I'd worked an extra hour and I was tired. She was a healthcare hero. I was a healthcare hero that night. And I was in my scrubs, my gym. And this cop pulled me over and he said, Why were you speeding? And I said, I didn't even realize. Like, honestly, I'm just like tired from working 13 hours. I I didn't know that I did that. Cause you know, like I'm a nurse. I was like my nurse chef, you know. I'm a healthcare hero. And I'm so tired for my chefs. Yeah. As a nurse. Saving lives. Saving lives. I was doing so many life-saving events last night. I didn't even realize I was speeding. He said, Here's your tickets. Oh shit. Damn. Yeah, he was like, I don't give a fuck. But yeah, no, he didn't give me a ticket that time. My NoahCon time.
SPEAKER_02Now Ellie already knows this, but hot take. That orbiter song is so annoying to me.
SPEAKER_00I hate that you think that. I actually love it. I think it's so beautiful. If I have to hear it one more time. I get why why you're saying that. And it's only I feel like it's only because it's being overplayed and you're hearing it every single other TikTok. Yeah. Is people using that song? I feel that way about there's a song right now on a train back to Boston. I hear it every other reel, and I'm like, I can't. The other one. It's butterfly season. Yeah. Oh my God. That one is like nails on a chalkboard. And it's because, and that was actually something I was gonna say in a minute, but I'll get to that. But anyways, Noah Khan's album. I have never really listened to his music besides like the stick season, like the popular ones. And somebody was like, You love Taylor Swift and she's like a lyrical genius. You sh you would probably love Noah Khan's music because he's kind of that same kind of poetry vibe. And so I've been listening to his new album and I love it. It's so perfect for sad depressed people like myself. I mean, if you're on any form of SSRI, you should be listening to his music. And I'm actually on Well Patron, which isn't an SSRI, but depressed nonetheless. I like the other new, newer person. I really like Olivia Dean. Yes. Her songs come on. And you know what other song is out right now that you probably love, but guess. Read my mind. Is it Olivia Rodrigo? No, it's a Puerto Rico song. I think that's an AI-made song, isn't it? It is. I thought somebody said that, but I could be wrong. I could be way wrong. It is so catchy. It is so catchy. But here's my hot take. Maybe it's not a hot take. Here's my take. I know I'm getting older because lately I find myself playing like old music from when we were like in high school and below more than I'm listening to like new music because I get on Spotify or whatever and I pull up like today's top hits, and I know none of the songs besides like a few of the new ones. I know none of the artists, I know none of the songs. And so I just like pull out like music from the 2000s. And remember when we were younger and our parents would like only want to listen to like 80s rock or something? And you're like, like, listen to Katy Perry for one time, please, mom. Yes. Play anything but A C D C Dad for the love of God.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And you just, I didn't understand it. I'm like, why don't you know any new songs? Yeah. And now I'm like, I know none of these people. I'm just gonna go listen to, you know, older music. This is it. I can't, this is it. This is, I think this is where it hits. Because my parents were in their 30s when I was growing up and I'm 30 now and I want to listen to, I mean, don't get me wrong, I like Noah Khan's new album. I'll love whatever Taylor Swift ever puts out. And like I know the single, like some of the hit singles. I'm not like super grandma-esque, but yeah, I'm like pulling up like hits of 2016 just to feel live anymore. Yeah. That's good. Do you feel that way? Yeah. I'm like, who are these people? And and honestly, most of the time, the only reason I know the artist or the song is because it's like a trending sound on TikTok. And then it's just annoying to me because I hear it all the time. Wait, were you in high school in 2016? No. I was in college. I was like, Yeah. What? So what a time to be in college. 2016. Yeah. It was chokers. It was that green jacket that had us all in a chokehold. You know what? I barely Yeah, I did have that green jacket. It was beat up makeup. Yeah. Now your face was beat. Yeah. Eyebrows. It was just eyebrows everywhere in 2016. Was it? Yes, thick. Thick eyebrows. I feel like my eyebrows are kind of thick. No. No, you need to like they were carved. Like angry birds. Squared. Yeah, probably. Better than the eyebrows in 2007. No, yeah. We went like that's when we went like way opposite. I feel like bushy but filled but natural eyebrows are in right now.
SPEAKER_02Is that what I have?
SPEAKER_00Yes. You have just filled out eyebrows. But like carved out eyebrows was like 2016 and thin eyebrows was like early 2000s. Oh, those are horrible. Yeah. Did you know they're called sperm brows? But that makes sense because a little there's a little bigger end too.
SPEAKER_01I just remember being in front of the mirror for like 20 minutes every day, just plucking.
SPEAKER_00Really? In high school, yeah. I never, I've never done my eyebrows. I don't do. I don't really fill them in. Occasionally. Occasionally, I will take a little bit of like brown eyeshadow. No, no, no, no, no. No, I don't pluck my eyebrows. Oh. Yeah. So they're kind of probably bad at the corners. Wow.
SPEAKER_02I just don't have a lot of. God's favorite.
SPEAKER_00You know, I'm like, I'm not gonna brag, but I don't have a lot of body hair. But I really Wow, that is a fleck. Like my hair's kind of blonde. And so I don't really get thick eyebrows. I kind of wish I did, so then I can shape them better. Shut up. No, yeah, I hate new music and I love no condo. But I will be listening to probably 2000s pop for quite a while now because I'm kind of sick of everything else.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, when we're all in the nursing home, and instead of like Ruth and Dorothy in the nursing home, it's like Madison and Austin.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And they're literally gonna be listening to InSync. Yeah. Yeah. This is a song from my time. Yeah. And it's imagine us doing chair yoga with like the instructor.
SPEAKER_02To Baby Got Back.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yes. I love that play. Aoustic version. We're recording very early because I'm headed off on a little vacation.
SPEAKER_00Where are you going? I'm going to we're going to Gatlinburg. Remember, I talked about family camp. Well, it's time. And we does a camp every year with her whole extended family. Yeah. Could be someone's worst nightmare, arguably.
SPEAKER_02Every it's important to know that every family unit has their own bedroom and bathroom. That is important. So we just rent like a huge cabin and hang out, and it's really fun. It's very chaotic.
SPEAKER_00But we're extending our trip, so we're staying a few days after in our own little cabin. Okay, so you're just like driving down the road and where's this at? Gatlinburg. I just have she's spicy tonight. Wait, do you have you ever been to Gatlinburg? Is this where you go for family camp every year or you guys switch it up? We meet like in that vicinity because it's the easiest place to find cabin rentals that are like gonna fit all of you. Yeah, a big group. But you've never stayed on your own and just did your own thing? Because you guys probably don't go out and venture when you're at family camp. No, we do. Oh, you do.
SPEAKER_02Like there's usually excursions, if you will. Like horseback riding. We're not doing that. Nora would have a freak out after two minutes.
SPEAKER_00And I didn't realize this that the horseback riding place, you can't ride on the horse with your kid if they're older four. Ooh. I'm like, so Julian would just be leading the reins of this horse anywhere? No. Does the horse know where it's going? Because he won't. Allegedly. But yeah. That's scary.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, so we're not doing that. But they're but also I'm the baby of the baby. My mom was the baby of six, and I'm the youngest cousin. So my kids are younger than a lot of the like that generation. They're part of like the baby babies. So uh yeah, the older kids I think are excited to go horseback riding, which I'm if I was like 11 or 12, I would be too. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then we'll go like creek stomping. What's that? Creek stomping? What people do that here. Is this like floating? No, you go like walking along in the creek on the rocks. Just get your feet wet. No, we don't creek stomp. People do. Oh, yeah, I believe it. I've never creek stomped. I actually was just Googling places near me to do this because I feel like the kids would love it. I don't, it's just just going on a walk down the creek. Yeah. Okay. With your shoes off? No, you'd want to wear shoes because of rocks. Yeah. Okay. So yeah. It'll be fun. We might go tubing.
SPEAKER_02Now, um, my very strong, brave, manly husband will not go tubing though, because we went tubing one time, a long time ago, pre-kids, and there was a couple water snakes. And he said, fool me twice. Shame on me.
SPEAKER_00I'm with your brave, strong husband on this. Yeah. Yeah. Water snakes. Well, it's weird how they like skitter across the water. Kind of like they've been flung. Is that what you're doing now? Yeah. No, they they had their head up. Like, yeah, yeah, yeah. I know what you're talking about. That's what I meant. No, I don't like it either. Yeah. I don't like snakes. Yeah. Well, that's fun. I'm excited. Actually, I wanted to talk about the summer kickoff we just went to. And that's it. Moving right along. What's a summer kickoff? We just went to the library. Our local library had a summer kickoff. So did ours. A summer reading kickoff. So did ours. It was so fun. I didn't go, but Margo did. Oh, really? Yeah. They had a petting zoo. Ah. Yeah. They had a magic show. Oh my gosh. They had a bunch of a bunch of like games and things like that. Crafts, they had crafts. And I signed the kids up for the summer reading program. I was like, my kids don't read. Can they like still do this? And she was like, Oh, yeah, you're reading to them. Like, and we read every night. So I was like, let's just get some, finally get some points for this. And for like every 25 reads, they get to come in and pick a prize. They got a prize for signing up. It was just like a ice free ice cream cone from our local ice cream place. And actually, they she said, Do you read? And I was like, Yeah, I actually do read. She said, Do you want to do the adult summer reading program? You're shaking your head like this is a thing. I'm new to this. I said, Oh, yes, do tell. And she said this, the theme this year, which honestly is kind of a hard theme. She said that since it's the 250th year anniversary of America the Beautiful, um of these great United States. They're doing the theme this year, is you have to read a book from each state. I was like, the fuck does that mean? Uh ours is just you just track your minutes, just like the the game. No, ours is she gave me a map of the states. And I said, okay, I'm kind of confused here. Um, do I read a book from like do I buy a book in each state? Do I read a book from like each author has to live in a different state? And they really were just like, yeah, whatever you want. Or we she said, we kind of minute as like the book, the scene of the book, the location of the book of the characters is what you know, like if you read a Nicola Sparks book, they're all from North Carolina. I kind of like this. And but then I'm like, so Noah goes, read a bunch of Nicholas Sparks books. They're all from North Carolina. And I was like, Yeah, but I can't read five Nicholas Sparks books because then I'm I need one, and then I need like what's her name? Emily Henry. You know, she writes a lot of books for the characters are in Indiana. So I didn't realize that. Or like Michigan. She's I think from here. Like the last Emily Henry book I read, he had a Purdue sweatshirt on in the book. So it's like that. You have to pick a book for me. Which I already read. 51 if Puerto Rico's on there. In the summer? I guess. See, I don't know. She gave me a map. She said, get her done. I said, aye aye. She said, come in for your stamp next week. I said, right. I want my free cone. My free ice cream cone. Yeah, I don't know. I'm you're right. 50 books in the summer seems kind of crazy. That's insane. But maybe it's like the kids for every so many books, I get a prize. Okay. And then, yeah, what are they giving me? A slap bracelet or bubbles? Ours has like a pint glass that has the library logo on it. Uh-huh. Okay. Like for the adults, obviously. I'll get I'll go for a t-shirt. I love a good t-shirt. Yeah. But, anyways, I'm excited to read, I guess, a book from each state. It could be fun, but what about the ones that like nobody's writing a book based in there?
SPEAKER_01Like, I'm sure that you're gonna find a book in Texas. You're gonna find a book in Washington.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's what I was like. I just read not too long ago that book by The Great The Great Alone. Oh. By Kristen Hanna. Kristen Hanna, and that was set in Alaska, and I was like, fuck, that's probably the only Alaska book I'm ever gonna read. You just read it. All right, like four months ago, but alright. Yeah, it's fine. Okay, this is like six. Yeah. It was last year. It was last year I read it. But I'm not, I can't lie to you guys. So, anyways, I'm excited for our summer kickoff. I wonder if I my I'm not home tonight because I'm recording. I wonder if my husband did it. I'm sure he did. Yeah. Because he's a great dad. And it's Father's Day. Father's Day. And that's what we're talking about this week. I asked a few questions to our listeners. So we'll go through those and read what you guys said. Bye. What are you guys doing for Father's Day? We're just discussing this tonight at dinner, actually. And he was like, I don't know what I want to do. I need to get a gift situation figured out. Yeah, and we can't say it now because it's gonna air two days before Father's Day, so he'll know. That's okay. I don't know either. It'll be a surprise to us both. I don't know what we're doing this weekend either. I hate asking him because he always surprises me and it's always like such a good surprise of like something I've mentioned or something I really want to do. And then I'm just like, what do you want to do? Yeah. But guys are harder. I feel like. You spend Father's Day with your dad too. Yeah. You guys all usually hang out together. Yeah, usually. It's their home. Do you give him a gift or you're like, I'm old, the gift is me? No, I think we usually get him something small. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And we usually get um grandparents like homemade gifts.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you go all the way extended to grandparent, grandfather.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, very saber-light. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay. So that the kids feel included. I'll be visiting my dad too. Oh, I didn't know if in the urn.
SPEAKER_01Damn it.
SPEAKER_00I'm like, I'll be I'll be opening him up. I already knew that the crude jokes were coming. For our yearly.
SPEAKER_01For our yearly hello. Not often do I like not know what to say, but when Ellie goes off the rails on these comments, I'm like, what do I say?
SPEAKER_00My dad's dead if you didn't know, guys. Yeah, I think they probably gathered. It's not funny. It's really not. It's actually traumatic, but yeah. What else are you gonna do? Is Father's Day hard? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And no, because you're busy. Yeah. So I wouldn't say Father's Day is the hardest day, honestly, as like a someone with a dead relative. And maybe that might be unpopular, but my saddest times are always really centered around my kids now. Like Christmases, anything I'm like seeing through my kids' eyes that I wish my dad was here to see. That's when I get teary-eyed. So it's like usually like holidays or you know, birthday parties, things like that. Random things you wouldn't think of. Yeah. That you wouldn't be like, oh, Ellie's probably really sad today because it's, you know, Hanukkah. I don't celebrate Hanukkah.
SPEAKER_01It was a weird example.
SPEAKER_00Like Father's Day. But Father, no, like not Father's Day, because it's not really about the kids. Yeah, and it's about your focused on. It's about my husband. Yeah. So I'm not thinking really of my dad. Whereas if it is like, you know, Christmas or whatever, I'm thinking of him because I'm thinking of what he's missing out on because I'm watching the kids. Yeah. So it's really not as hard of a day as it could be. Oh my God, wait. I had to tell you a funny story about Noe. Okay, well, this is this is relatable because it's my husband. We were at our anniversary dinner the other month. Actually, it was last month, but I forgot to tell the story, so I'm gonna tell it now. Does have to do with being a dad, which is why I want to tell it because it has to do with um stopping being a dad. We were at our anniversary dinner. And naturally, as one would, we got on the topic of vasectomies at our anniversary dinner. And I was telling my husband, whenever we have a third baby, we're done after that. Like that is, that is, we're closing up shop. And and he is usually not like that big of a baby with like pain or anything. I mean, he's like a normal guy baby with pain. Sorry, honey. Yeah. But he's not like overly. But the way he was talking about this vasectomy was like how it was like really scaring him. Oh my god. The things he was saying, it just wasn't making sense to me. Like he kept referring to his penis. Like he kept saying, like, like, is little John gonna get hurt? Little John? I call it that. Wait, no, we have proved Sherry. He's never referred to his penis before in a name. He just was like, this was just randomly. He was just like, because I don't think he wanted to say penis at the dinner table. So he was like, you know, is my little John gonna be, is he gonna be okay?
SPEAKER_02Little John and the East Side boys.
SPEAKER_00And I was like, yeah. And he was like, but they're gonna have to like stick a needle in it, right? And I was like, near it. And then he said, What did he say? Yes, I will get approval from him before I share this, by the way. But he said, Well, are they gonna have to like, you know? And I said, No, I actually have no idea what you're about to say. And he said, like, are they gonna have to like get it hard? Huh? And I said, Okay, stop right there. Can you please tell me what you think a vasectomy is? And I'm sharing this with you guys now because I really need you guys to ask your husbands if they know what a vasectomy is. Um, because his explanation to me afterwards was the most wildest thing I've ever heard in my life. He thought that you get the penis erect, and then they stick a needle on the tip to numb it, and then they go in through, through the penis, through the top, through the tip, down into wherever. And I guess he thought they were gonna scoop out every swimmer he had and pull it back out. I'm like, no, this is graphic. This is horrible. No wonder you didn't want to get a vasectomy. Oh my god, no, it is not like that at all. And then I explained to him, like, where his sperm is located, what they would be doing. I think he really he thought they were gonna just like like, you know, the the vacuum from the telly tubbies, just go down there and just start slurping out all his swimmers. Isn't that wild? And so then I told him what really happens, and he was so relieved, and he was like, oh, okay, that's totally fine. Yeah, no, it is. We'll go with that. But yeah, but maybe ask your husbands what a vasectomy is like because maybe that's their qualm. Because maybe they think something's happening that's not happening. Yeah, Marco's already had a vasectomy, so but otherwise that would be a jolly good question to ask. Yeah. Um, but he didn't ask you if it had to get hard before. No, no. And I was not like Caleb was an infant.
SPEAKER_02And I think I told this this is actually a funny Father's Day story. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I, you know, I was like, how am I gonna figure out picking Nora up from school?
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna have Caleb, like the time of day, which is a mess that he was scheduled. And I said, and I was telling my mom this, and she said, your dad could just take him and I can help with the kids. And I said, I love that idea. Yeah. And like looking back now, that is hysterical that my dad took my husband to get a vasectomy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But also, like, I remember my my dad or my mom was like, Oh, do you think that would be like uncomfortable? I said, Maybe as uncomfortable as like being asked if your vagina tore after you had a baby.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah, maybe a little, but like yeah, like giving people updates while you're in labor with how many centimeters dilated your vagina is. Yeah. Like, yeah, it's a little uncomfortable, but like he'll be all right. He didn't complain at all.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna say, of course, he didn't. No, it's an easy procedure. It's okay, yeah. No, I've heard that from multiple people. That's why when we were discussing it with my husband, I was like, Can we just talk about this? I'm so confused while you're well, like, what do you mean? That's a wild thought. I know it's so funny. But this man is not medical at all, like, he has no medical background. I like how. were just like I have to share this right now. Yeah, because I just remembered it. Okay. Okay, now back to my dead dad. Um one of our questions was to share any kind of advice or any kind of like story about your dad that like something your dad had taught you. And I will say two things. One, my dad taught me the most random shit that I was so mad about as a teen that now I and he would just be so random about it, which is like why I would piss you off. Cause you'd be like 15 years old and like texting on your phone. And your dad would come in and be like, it's time to learn your social security number. And I'm like the fuck? Like it's 9 p.m. And he'd be like get her done. And he would just like give you your social security number and be like have it memorized by tomorrow. And you're like what? But then like now I have my social security number memorized. Yeah. And that's just like obviously something you need to do but yeah maybe it's not but I do meet a lot of people who don't have their social security memorized as an adult as an adult. And I'm like my dad made me one time. Nine o'clock at night. Yeah. He was like it's a full moon get her done. Do you feel like your personality is more like your dad's a hundred percent about you. Yeah. Yeah. My mom's very quiet and shy and like just she's an introvert. And my dad is a big loudmouth extrovert. I joke that I gave my boobs for my dad. But yeah 100% my dad.
SPEAKER_02My dad was a the theater arts teacher at my high school and I was I was a theater kid so I was always like in the shows. And um this is actually an incredible story that one night after play practice I was driving home and we live pretty far from the school and uh me and my dad drove separate that day. I don't know maybe he had a meeting or something before school and this kid from play practice have you heard this story before no the race. Yeah. Okay. This kid from play practice was like motioning to me at the stoplight like we should race and I was like please I had a red cobalt. Please obviously I was going to win. And so like a dumbass, we like raced off this stoplight. And I grew up in a very small town. Yeah. And so here come the sirens. I'm like oh fuck and the kid turned even though I knew where he lived and that's was not the right direction. So I was like okay fine I guess I'll take it from here. So I pull over and the cop gets out and she knows me and I know her. Hers too. She was like Emily and I was like hi and she clapped me going like 78 and a 50 is so stupid. She saw the whole thing. Yeah. She knew what you were doing. Yeah and she was like I know your parents and I know they wouldn't be like very proud of that. And literally it was out of a TV sitcom.
SPEAKER_01I am not making any of this up right when she said that my dad pulls past at like 10 miles an hour in the van and he's just staring at me. Like he turned the lights on so that I could see him and I was like he was looking at you.
SPEAKER_02Here goes my dad now actually bother he knows she was like that your dad just drove past is like yeah we were at play practice together. Anyway long story short I got a warning but she said that my parents had to call her within the hour to tell them they knew.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And your dad was I mean they were pissed yes yeah but yeah but hilarious yeah it's a good story though. The other thing I want to say that my dad taught me was to just like be so like spontaneous and just like do the trip. I remember when we were younger he would be like I remember very specifically and if my sister's listening to this she will remember this very specifically but we were at my cousin's house and it was me my cousin and my sister we're all like the same age and we were just playing inside and he my dad called us out and said do you guys want to go to Cedar Point which is an amusement park and we were like I mean yeah but like when and he was like if you go upstairs and clean up your cousin's bedroom we'll go to Cedar Point right now. And we were like the fuck? Yeah let's go do it and so we like went inside cleaned up and we went to Cedar Point and like stayed the weekend. It was just very much like let's do it. So you guys stayed for the whole weekend. Yeah that is so fun. I know and so I like that now now I'm very like should we just go bowling right now? You know it's not gonna be like probably as crazy as Cedar Point but you know like should we have a movie night? Sweet. Let's just do it. Yeah and that was so fun. Yo let's read some of everybody else's with their daddy's taunt them. My dad was a girl dad to the fullest once in high school I accidentally dyed my hair jet black while I cried my eyes out my dad went to Walgreens and got a box of hair dye remover that would lessen the intensity of the color I didn't even have to ask him to do that. He just knew oh that's sweet you know Dawn dish soap also lessens that if you make that mistake.
SPEAKER_02Have you done it before is that why you know yeah like a week before I was supposed to be a maid of honor.
SPEAKER_00I was like maybe I'll just go really dark. I've never seen you with hair not the color on your head right now. I know it didn't work out it was like as it was darker than yours. Dang it so it just didn't look right on me. No I would never I mean I don't know maybe it would but it was a box and my hair I called my hairdresser and she was like use some dawn yeah it helped a little but it was dark. That's a girl dad to his core though because my dad was a girl dad it was just me my sister my mom and him yeah no male testosterone in the house must have been a wild time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah that is wild. When I was six I got separated from my dad at the grocery store after a frantic search we found each other. His first words were there you are your mother is going to kill me not are you okay just concerned for his own survival he was that man was scared oh my God was mom there?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. But that is hilarious. Yeah no that man was scared for his life right and in that moment. But do you remember I have like some memories of being at the grocery store when I was little and it being like well the parents of Nathan please customer service. Yes a hundred percent do you ever this is a universal experience I fear but maybe you never went through this when you were at a grocery store with your parents you had just gotten groceries. You're at the checkout line you're next okay there's one person in front of you finishing up their groceries with the cashier and your dad or your mom is like oh I forgot milk. I'll be right back. Stay here and you're just like frantically like looking to see how many boxes of you know cereal slides got left and then you're looking for your parents and then you're looking for at the cashier and then you're looking at your parents and you're like when are they coming back? Or when you're a little older when they're like go get that gallon of milk.
SPEAKER_02Yes and you're like I will do this for my family and you're like sprinting through the grocery store and you feel like you're on like survivor.
SPEAKER_00I saw a funny video the other day actually about this exact same scenario. This girl this adult woman was in the checkout line with her mom and she was videotaping she said I'll be right back I got I forgot something and she left her mom and she's like how do you like it?
SPEAKER_03Wait that's so funny.
SPEAKER_00I know that's silly no that's funny poor daddy. Okay every Valentine's Day my dad would get all give all of his daughters flowers and chocolate. He still does this even though I'm grown and have my own husband and kids cute that's a good tradition to start. You know who is such a dad?
SPEAKER_01Do you follow kickball dad? Yeah I love him. Maybe I don't know he's hysterical you should follow him.
SPEAKER_00Does he have how many kids? Oh kickball team he's a grandpa now he's kickball grandpa. Oh his videos are so pure and he's just your classic dad I've seen a lot of dads online that will do like here's something your dad never taught you if your dad never taught you this and they make like videos of like how to change your tire and oh that's cute. Things like that.
SPEAKER_02Now let's talk about our baby daddies. We have kings we really do.
SPEAKER_01Yeah Ellie and I sh have addressed this before but we have very good ones.
SPEAKER_00My number one thing I wrote down for Noah is that he understands girl time. Yeah. Yeah so does Marco. Yeah good one they don't there's no like I don't have to like uh wage any kind of like well can I go to girls night and then you can do this or like I clean the whole house am I allowed to go you know record the podcast those guys are like that. Yes. Yeah or like what time or some guys I hate to say it but they don't take care of their kids. Yeah. They just don't know how because they never do. And so the thought of like leaving for the afternoon is foreign yeah to these to these women and I am so blessed that he can handle it. I've he's always changed a diaper he's always worn the swaddle yeah he's always done all of that so I feel comfortable leaving the house yeah and having my girlfriend and that's so important to me because my friends are so important to me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And no he just does everything for me. So I'm just a print F.
SPEAKER_02Yeah we are lucky girlies.
SPEAKER_01And we definitely see a lot of different partners in our job working postpartum and the like the ones who bring their video games or just sleep all night on the couch and don't do shit like the way Marco would never no never act like that.
SPEAKER_00Because I'd kill him. Yeah so true.
SPEAKER_02What did other people say?
SPEAKER_00Okay may sound so basic to say but honestly just how hardworking and determined he is and basic because trust me like Emily said yeah we see a lot of duds. Yeah a lot of duds a hardworking man could be hard to come by yeah yeah no that's a good one and that's hard because I know for my husband too since he works so much more out of the house than I do it's hard for him. Yeah. And I don't think the older generation gets it because the older generation was so used to just like dads leaving every day for a nine to five and just like missing a lot of their kids' lives and that was just so norm. And now I think that perception has shifted and it's more normal for dads to leave work early to go to the baseball game than it is to for them to like stay over you know what I mean? And I just think that's something that older generations don't get like they don't understand what do you mean you like you know want to go and see this soccer game or whatever. Yeah. Because they never had that. Yeah dads these days are changing the diapers and they're going to the baseball games and they're going to the school programs. They're they're so much more present. So it's harder for a dad who's so hardworking because that's tough. They want to be at both. Yeah. So power two up yeah okay this person said for the first two months postpartum he changed every baby diaper and hand wrote in his journal no the baby diapers probably she means she wrote he wrote the diapers I think he like wrote everything down she's saying or he just like wrote in his journal I took it as like a journal like he was writing about my dad did that for me and my sister.
SPEAKER_01I like that for the first year and he didn't tell my mom at least some for my sister.
SPEAKER_00Can you read it? Like did he write it for you? No it's like just like today we did this. Oh I love that. Yeah I bought a journal like two years ago and my plan was to do that just like write to my kids and then give it to them someday and I have never cracked it open.
SPEAKER_01It's one of my hobbies you know never started another one. I have a journal because when Nora when she turned five that was the last pages in her baby book.
SPEAKER_02So I just got like a little like leather bound journal from Target but I just jot things down like especially starting kindergarten is when I started it and it was just like writing things down like little memories here and there. Like if she said something funny or like a funny story or you know something that was a hard day for her.
SPEAKER_01But I mean I've maybe written in it 10 times. It's not like I write in it every day but it's at least something to give her some memories on paper. No, I like that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah that would be easier her for her to flip through than like yeah today's another day you didn't eat your green beans. No yeah like I special moments. And there's also no way I could keep up with it daily.
SPEAKER_02Yeah for the next 18 years until yeah no so I wrote like her about her first day of kindergarten and you know like things like that. I'll write when she loses her tooth.
SPEAKER_00I love that I'm gonna I'm gonna do that probably yeah another one but that's cute. Noe I was thinking diaper log because Noah wrote in the you know they give you that little log in the hospital and he like front to back wrote everything down. And even when we got home he was like writing everything down. And you're like we actually don't have to do that anymore. Yeah he was very into like that was like he's this is my one job I can do and he was like very into tracking.
SPEAKER_02Yeah I always say that when I'm like admitting a patient to postpartum I'm like and then you know dad or partner or whoever this is something you can help with. And some of them are like got it no problem and they write down like at 947 like yes for three minutes and 46 seconds on the right breast and it's like okay it's not that deep and when they like describe in detail the poop yeah it was a little bit black when it first came out but then it turned to a yellow it was a little loose so dear it is so cute.
SPEAKER_00Yeah I love it. And I love when dads ask me questions like can you show me how to swaddle can you show me how to change the diaper yes king I can yeah we love that we love that king we all have great baby daddies let's be real yeah well not all of us we do I mean to it yes I hope you're not spending this weekend on the golf course ladies I really don't but if you are stay strong yeah happy father's day happy father's day daddies cheers is any daddy listening probably not no they are we got a couple dads yeah we got a couple dads yeah and if you're a single mom happy father's day yeah that's such a good point yeah I'm gonna buy my sister a toolbox yeah cheers to Kame who we can't get through an episode without bringing up honestly she really is she isn't remembering at this point yet yeah okay happy father's day cheers in a minute
