Hello, mamas. I'm Emily. And I'm Ellie. And this is Mama Needs a Minute. You know how I know it's summer? Why? Well, I did. I wasn't gonna say we both have sunglasses on our heads, but you took yours off to record in the house. Also, I know it's summer because it's still light out and I'm at your house. I know. I was thinking that. And guess what I'm gonna do on my way home? What? Listen to my book that I'm obsessed with. But is it? I am listening to yesteryear. Oh, yeah, about the trad wife. Yes. Yeah. Okay, do you know about this? She gets thrown back into like the 1800s. Okay, so do you follow Ballerina Farm? No, but because I don't really want to. Yeah. But but I know who she is. So I've followed her for a while. And I will say when I started following her, like most of us when we're following an influencer, we're like, oh, I really like her. And then all of a sudden you're like, this isn't adding up. Yeah. They get less relatable. Yeah. Like she has, I think she has 10, nine or 10 kids now. And she's always like spending hours making them their dinner, like, you know, making the noodles, and everything is fresh. Everything's from the garden. Everything is homemade. And she's homeschooling them and they're running this dairy farm and they never show any workers. And I'm like, wait a minute. Yeah. Yeah. It's not making any sense anymore. So I she gets on my nerves a lot for that. Her life is interesting and I do like the scenery. Like it's a beautiful farm. Yeah. But I like this book because they're kind of making fun of her. Yeah. But it's not specifically about her. This is a I mean, quote unquote fictional story. Yeah, but it's like not very closely. I think she could, she could have a lawsuit. Yeah. It reminds me of if you grew up in like the Wattpad era. Do you know what Wattpad is?
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Wattpad was a website that people, like people like you and me, unpublished authors or whatever, could write stories, fictional stories, and just like upload them. And a lot of times they would write like fan fiction about, for example, there was one about an alternate reality of Harry Potter, in which, what's his name? The bad guy? Voldemort. No. Snake. Mouth Mouthoy. Oh. In where in which Mouthoy and Hermione were like in love. So it's and it was like a whole fan fiction. Like a lot of it was fan fiction on Wattpad. There was a lot of one direction fan fiction where people would write stories about like one direction, but they wouldn't say one direction, but they would like. Yeah. And they like they wouldn't say this story is about Harry Styles. Or maybe they would, but a lot of it was like, you know, I'm in a boy band, I have tattoos and I'm British. And here's like a love story about that. And one uh there was an author that, not on Wattpad, but she actually wrote a story like that got published. And it was very much like this story is about Harry Styles. Like she took his likeness, yes, everything about it. Yes, that's exactly what this is. Like extremely similar because Ballerina Farms gets a lot of flack because her father-in-law is very wealthy. He's like the head of some some airline. And so, and they're like hopefully not spirit. No, it's not spirit. May I rest in peace. But they're like cosplaying this life where they're like, Oh, we're just poor farmers and living off the land. But they have a private manny and chef and farm keep. Yes. And like people have like clocked her sweaters and they're like, Oh, you're in a $700 sweater, ma'am. To like pick pick up the chicken chip. Yes. Yeah. Yes. And so anyway, so in the book, then she gets like, she wakes up and she's in like 1860. Okay. So I'm I don't know what the plot twist is gonna be because I'm almost done with it. I'm listening to it and I've really liked listening to it. Um Is it just going to be like a growth type of situation? Like she's just gonna realize that it actually takes a lot to be, you know, this kind of wife. No, it's not that kind of book. No, she's kind of a like she's shady. Okay. So no, but I don't know. I could see it getting dark because I saw someone like said something about it being not a thriller, but like something like that. And I was like, wait, like a murder? Yeah, like does she kill somebody? What? Or somebody kills her, or that, or I could see it being like a they call her a witch. No, it's a it's a reality show. I'm done guessing. That they set her up and this is the reality show. Oh, like the whole thing. That is giving Black Mirror, like a Black Mirror episode. I could be totally wrong. I don't know that we have like 20% left, uh-huh. But I feel a twist coming on. Oh, that is insane. Yeah. That would you have to update us and we'll say spoiler alert, and you could tell us what happens. Yeah. Or maybe I'll read it and don't tell me. And probably neither one of those is right. And the people who have already read this are like, what the hell? Like Are you listening to it and reading it or just listening? I can't do that. Really? I I like right now, I'm listening to that and I'm reading the correspondent, which is my book club book. Okay. I can't I've tried to take a book and listen to it for a little bit and read it, and I can't do that. It messes me up. Why? I don't know. I don't like it. I usually I do do it and I've done it before, but I don't like it because then I like have one way I'm picturing someone talking in my head when I'm reading it, and then I get the audiobook, and then it's like, she's British. What? That's not who I pictured, and now the whole rest of the book, I have to read it in my head in a British accent, and that's fucked up. Yeah. Arguably, though, it's a very good way to uh be efficient in reading a book. Yeah. Because you can do it all the time. So, yeah, that's what I'm gonna do on my way home. Yeah, I've been reading a or I've been listening to a lot of audiobooks lately, more than I've like cracked open my Kindle, just because I don't have time right now to read. Yeah, but I'm in the car a lot lately, so it's been nice. I think I said that. I've been doing a lot of audiobooks, like our last. What have you been listening to? I'm actually reading Mystery, a Frieda McFadden book. I know she's a big mystery author. I don't ever read mystery, but I'm reading this one because it was available. It's called The Boyfriend. I haven't read that one. I just realized you have a birthmark on your eye. Yeah, like a brown spot. Oh cool. Yeah, I've never heard someone call it a birthmark. It is, right? I just say I have like a brown spot on my eye. Brown spot makes it sound so much less cool than I've got. I know. I like birthmarks. Yeah, it isn't. Have you ever seen pay people with like different colored eyes? Yeah. Yeah. My first kiss was a guy with different colored eyes. Cool. I think he's in prison now. He had a tap out shirt. They probably like that. Oh, he had a tap-out shirt. He's in prison. Destined. I'm almost positive. I'll have to check up on that. But. Anyways. You and I need to discuss. Off campus. No. Oh, but I want to. Okay. It's on my list. What's that? I don't know what these shows are. I haven't had time lately. May was so nuts. I know, but I gotta tell you about off campus because I've been waiting weeks to tell you about off-campus. We if our listeners really think all we do is watch TV. And read. And I have to tell you about off campus really quick and then we can move on from pop culture. But um kind of not because I have something else to tell you. Okay, off campus, you haven't seen it. It's heated rivalry, but heterosexual.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00No, but I know. Like, bummer. No, it is my god, when I tell you I binged it until like 4 a.m. one night. Noe rolls over and he's like, what the fuck are you doing? I was like, I can't sleep. I can't stop watching this. But here's the thing about me, and maybe a lot of night shifters too. Maybe you do this, you don't, because you're in bed by 11. But if I if I stay up until my usual like 11, 12, I'm tired. We're tired. Let's go to bed. If I push myself even a little bit past that tired, then my body's like, oh, we're working. Let's stay up all night. And then I have insomnia and I cannot sleep. And I did that because I wanted to watch off campus. I was like, let me just watch one episode. No he's asleep. My kids are asleep. There's not a lot of time I get like a need time to watch a girly twirly swirly show because like my husband gets a few nights off a week to watch his macho man shit. When you're at work. Because I'm at work. Yeah. But my if I'm home, my whole family's home. So I'm watching Frozen or I'm watching, you know, one of our shows that we watched the other. Yeah. So he was asleep. I'm like, this is perfect time to watch my girly whirly show. Yeah. So I start off campus and I was I was deep into it and I could not stop it. I binged it in like two days because the first day I stayed up so late. That's insane. I would have been so stressed out about being tired the next day. It was no he was home the next day. So, anyways, off campus is a hockey romance. See, it's literally heated rivalry but heterosexual. It's on Amazon Prime. I don't have it. I'll give you my login. Okay. Because you must watch this. Okay. It is a book series that I've had on my Libby for months, and I'm like 3,000th in line for. What? But it's very similar to Heated Rivalry, to where it's like there's side characters that then become the main characters in later book series, book book books. And so this first one was about a girl in a hockey, the main hockey player, the captain, or whatever. Of course they're gonna start with the captain. But he has like four friends that he lives with, and the rest of the books are going to follow their characters too, which I'm super excited for. And she's like a musician, kind of dorky, whatever. Fake dating kind of situation. It is so steamy. It is so good. The guys are perfection. The girls are perfection. I mean, it's a must-watch. And she's a singer, and it's so annoying because the main the main star is a singer, and she didn't know she could even sing before she got this role. And then they were like, Can you sing? And she was like, Let me try. And then fucking aerialed it and was like, oh. And they're like, Oh my god, yeah, you got the role. That pisses me off, honestly, because I would give nothing more than to be a singer. I want to like reverse aerial. Like, I will give Ursula my legs and she gives me a voice. Ursula was scary. Yeah. Okay, so here's the thing. This is so interesting that hockey is really taking off. Yes. I think it's because it is, I don't know. I think football had its moment for being like the macho, cool sport to like be in a lot of movies and TV shows. Basketball went through a little thing with One Tree Hill. They've they've got to move on. They're like, we need something brand new. And hockey is such a like, I'm a badass and I fight people in the rink and I'm such a haughty. Here's the thing though, there's like somewhere in the world, there's like a 48-year-old dad who's like who was a hockey player in high school and the like the girls couldn't have cared less. Yeah, who's now like the fuck? Yeah. And he's like, wait, what? Like, I really like could have had a completely different high school. Like now he's like going to the bars. He's like, hey, you know, I played hockey. Yeah. You know, back in 1987. Old picture. Yes, he is. He's he's cool now. I'm a hockey player. Yeah. My patients the other night were hockey. Oh, you was actually your patients. And I wanted to tell them, me too. I'm a hockey fan too. I know. But then they would have asked me questions I would answer to. Anyways, it is such a good. And if you haven't watched it yet, you need to watch it. Unless you're afraid of like nudity and steamy scenes, and then that's not your thing. Don't watch it. Oh. Well, there might be someone. That's sad. Well, you need to watch it. Marco probably wouldn't like it. Um, it's a girly whirly twirly show, but yeah. We need to talk about the crash. Because I saw you the other day. Oh my god. I said, Did you watch the crash? And you said no, we're saving it for the case. And I said this was the end of pop culture. Let's bring pop culture back. Yeah. The crash. Did she do it? Did she murder her friends? The yes is the only right answer, but go ahead. I think she's insane. Yeah. She's mentally unstable. And it really goes to show that it's very important to put your children in timeout if they're misbehaving because she got away with everything. Yeah, her parents were also cuckoo for Coco Pops. Yeah. Yeah. So the scene with the judge where the mom is giving her, like, please don't give my daughter life sentence, basically. And she's like, and Davion, I didn't really know him. And the judge is like, so he deserved to die because you didn't really know him. I got secondhand embarrassment so bad. Yeah, that was bad. If you don't know what the crash is, it's a documentary on Netflix about a girl who had got in a car crash with her boyfriend and her friend at the time. And then later evidence came out to show that it may not have been an accident. Things like she never let up on the gas. She had floored it to a hundred before she liked hit this wall. Like there were so many signs that showed that she didn't try to stop the accident at all. No drugs were at play. It's very much she was high all the time. Yeah, she was used to that. And it showed proof of that. It was very much she intended to do this crash. Whether she intended for them to die, for them all to die, I don't know. But she intended the crash. That's my thing. I do think she absolutely 100% deserves to be in prison. For sure. Because she feels no remorse. No. Um the ending where she's like talking to her lawyer and she's like, Did we get it? Like, you know, basically, like, was that did I say everything I needed to say? Didn't she say something like heavy on the like guilt or something like that? Yeah. Something along those lines. But I don't think she thought they were gonna die. I think she's just nuts. Yeah. And I think she was like, I'm gonna go this car right now. You know, I think she, and then she actually did. Cause I she was too, she was too, what's the word I'm looking for? Like, not arrogant, but she was too much of a narcissist to want to kill herself. Okay, because I've seen a debate, people think she planned on killing them all, including herself, and it just didn't happen that way. But then I've seen reports of like the way she was lying when police found her, showed she kind of like ducked, you know, that she knew this was coming and was trying to save herself. And then, you know, I've seen all different kinds of stuff, but I think she was definitely trying to hurt them. Yeah. I don't know if she thought they would die. And I don't know if she if she just meant for her boyfriend to die. I don't know what her thought process was because she's dumb. Yeah. So she's dumb. She could have thought I'm gonna ram a hundred mile an hour into this brick wall and we'll all walk away and I'll be like, Well, you better fucking not mess with me next time. I don't know. I just hate it for I mean, that that is so sad that that was their last few minutes of life was absolute terror. That's so sad. And I'm so sorry for their families. Like, yeah. I feel like they didn't put a lot of screen time talking about Davion. They mostly honed in on her boyfriend and her because they were in a relationship, but her dad Davion's dad, his parents that were on oh my god, my heart just broke for them because they were just like, I I let him get in with the wrong friend group. I could tell the dad regretted a lot. Yeah. And it was they were salt of the earth too. Like the way that the dad was like, I'm capable of forgiveness. Yeah. I don't think I would be that good of a person. No, she's eligible for parole in like 2037. She ain't getting it. You don't think? No, I think that show sunk her. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And she had an option to do trial by jury or trial by judge. And she chose trial by judge. And I don't know what she was thinking in that instance because why wouldn't you want more like people to sway to your side? You know, she had a bad lawyer who probably said, This is hook, line, and sinker. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They can't prove anything. They can't prove anything. And they were like, Let me get the black box of the car out and show exactly what happened. And I saw too that one of the people who she was in prison with, um, like she was like proud of her nickname. What's her last name? Like Sherilla or something. Yeah. It was like Sherilla the Killa. Yeah. I mean, she's no. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Zit. Uhfy. I saw someone talk about her online that was in prison with her, and she was running a like jewelry business. Have you seen this? She was like, I just got out of prison with McKinsey, and she has her own like clothing fashion business, and that's her side hustle in jail, which she could be selling like crack. So I guess, you know, good for her. But she sells like she finds like pieces of metal and she was selling like fake nose rings or fake earrings, fake jewelry like that. And the girl had like bought a nose ring off of her, and she was like, Okay, cash at my mom, $35, and then I'll call my mom later. And if she got $35, I'll give you your nose ring. So she was like a hustler. But uh so confused. Do they have cell phones? Probably like a whatever when you can make a phone call to family. Well, how do you cash app somebody? She said, cash app my mom. She's so she'd probably have to call. I don't know, prison life. I'm not a gangster. She'd probably have to call her mom and say, cash up this girl's mom, and then, you know, whatever. But she was also like distressing hats, like prison hats, and she was like somehow like turning their prison pants into like joggers. Yeah, she had a whole freaking hustle in prison. I don't know if she's still doing it. At least when that girl was in prison, she'd be hustling. What would you be like in prison? I would just be in the field position waiting for death. Oh my god, I would be somebody's bitch. I would have to latch on immediately. I'd be like, the only way I'm getting through this is if I am someone's bitch. I feel like people And I would just find, you know, no, you know what would happen to me. I would become a therapist. Yes. That's actually I wouldn't mean to, but someone would share, and then the next person would share, and then that would be it. Then there'd be a line, and I'd be like, fuck, now I'm everybody's therapist. But then you could start charging and have your own little hustle. That's I don't understand any of the intricacies of prison life. Not for me. Please, Lord, never let me land in there. But yeah, sorry. No, I'm too weak for prison. For sure. She is a bad, bad girl. Actually, one of my biggest fears is that someone will be like, you're going to prison for something I didn't realize I did wrong or something. You know, like you accidentally committed tax fraud and now we're sending you to prison. And I'm like, what? I've just been using TurboTax. I didn't know that you weren't supposed to do it that way. I don't know. I thought I think about that every tax year actually. I'm like, what if we did this? Yeah, I literally could be f- I'm not a tax expert. Why? Who is letting me do this on my own? Yeah. Well, yeah. I mean, if you try to explain taxes to somebody else, like who doesn't know about taxes, it is a wild thing. It's a weird concept. Like you have to guess how much money you owe the government. And if you're wrong, you go to prison. Yeah. What? And then if you give them too much, then they give you some back, a little bit, actually. And if you have a few kids, they give you a little bit more. Yeah. No, it's wild. Okay, let's get into it. So we are gonna tell you guys some of our, what's on our summer summer summer bucket list. And then I asked you guys what's on your summer bucket list. So we'll read some of those. And if you don't know what a summer bucket list is, Emily, you take the lead. Well, did I inspire this? Yeah, you did. Because we talked about it. And I thought, that's a good episode. I'm like, yeah, I love that. So I had suggested to my now burp screener, which that's sad. That sounds so big to me. But uh my six-year-old Nora, I said, let's make a summer bucket list with fun stuff we want to do over the summer. She recommended that we put go to Disney World on there. And I was like, no, I was thinking like build a campfire. So yeah, ours is just mostly little stuff like that. Did you make a poster to hang in your wall? Yes, we're going to. You really, we're really just kicking right off. We went to the splash park yesterday. I was like, let's just do the thing. Let's just get her done. Get going. We haven't splash padded yet. We've gotten the pool out in the backyard. We've been to the children's museum. We've been to the zoo. We've already had some play dates. Playdates are key this summer, I feel like. I agree. Yes. Especially because we're gonna, she's gonna miss her kindergarten friends. So lots of play dates are scheduled. And actually, I took it upon myself that I we have like a WhatsApp chat with her kindergarten parents. And I went through summer and picked a day each week, and I did different days of the week because I didn't want to do like every Tuesday, and then somebody has soccer practice every Tuesday. Yeah. So I did different days of the week and I rotated in parks in the neighborhood and said 4:30 to 6 30. We're gonna be here. Yes, we're gonna be here. That's fun. Yeah. And so we had our first one last night, and parents were like, I'm so glad we're doing this because like the kids do miss each other. Yeah, and there's only so much I as a parent can do playwise before they're like, Okay, you're doing it wrong. And you kind of suck, mom. So and you know what was so uh sweet and pure about it too is that like we didn't know who was showing up, and it was just like she was so excited, and whoever showed up they played with. Yeah, and they were so happy to be there together, and yeah, it costs nothing and nobody's house gets destroyed. And yeah, so a lot of smart dates. Yes, that's so smart. Yeah. I told Julian about the summer bucket list, and first of all, he sometimes he just gets so like, well, why would we do that? I don't know. I was like, guess what? We're gonna write on a poster board our summer bucket list and we'll hang it up and it'll be so fun. And he was like, Why? And I was like, because it's fun, bitch. No, I'm just kidding. Because we're gonna have fun, because we're gonna have fun this summer. First thing on the paper list. So I was like, what do you want to do? And similarly to Nora, he said, Well, okay, let's go to Florida. Yeah. Like it's like just a trip, like a drive away. Yeah. And I was like, no, that's a little too much. And so then he's like, Okay, what the what is this then? You're telling me I can't put the only thing I want to put. So we've backtracked. But I just bought membership pass to our local pool, which I may have talked about in a previous episode that I was gonna do it. I did it, and that will be so nice because if you have littles, like they will not last eight hours at a water park. And so last summer we were paying $30, $40 for the four of us to get into this water park. And then two hours later, they're like, I'm bored, I'm hot, I'm tired, I'm hungry, I want to go home. Yeah. And you're like, we just got here and I paid $40. Yeah. So you pay like, you know, a hundred bucks for a water park pass. And now when we go for 30 minutes and they're done, I can be like, Great, let's go home and have a popsicle. Yeah. And just be done. Yeah. I don't have to pack a lunch because we can just go back. You know, it's so it's gonna be so nice. Yeah. The water is pretty cold right now because obviously they just opened last week. Yeah. But I'm excited for that. Yeah. And my kids, I don't know about your kids. Mine don't last very long at it like a splash park. Like uh, you know what those free like splash pads around the neighborhoods that just have like some sprinklers. I don't last long there either. Yeah. I mean, they're bored after like three seconds. They're like the water's just like squirting me in the face now, and I'm like, over it. Well, no, they last longer than that. No, they're my kids are so bored. Oh, okay. But well, then that's when you have to invite someone else to go with you. Yes. That's because now they're dragging you in the water and you're like, I'm not even in my swimming. And now the water's hitting me in the face. But a lot of the splash pads are um attached to a playground. So they'll bop. I agree. Yeah. They do bop. They get hot on the playground, they go back in and splash. Then they go back on the playground and so yeah, we can hang there for a little bit, but no, memberships are so helpful because they take all the pressure off of us. Yes. You're like, it doesn't, it's not like, no, we will be staying here. Yeah. We paid so much money. Yes. You can just pop in and pop out. Yeah. And I love that. And you'll get your money's worth because you've now you're going 35 times in the summer instead of, well, we can only go a couple times because it's 40 bucks, you know, whatever. Can you guys bring guests with your pass? Not for the membership. And I wish we could. Yeah. They didn't have an option to do like a plus two or whatever, which sucks because we do a lot of play dates. Yeah. I love a plus two membership because then you can invite other people. And also, um, I always tell wherever we're getting a membership that we have four kids. So you can bring hack it a little bit. Yeah, so that you can bring an entire other family of four. Yeah. So, like if it's a Saturday and both parents are off and they all want to meet you there, you're like, all four kids are mine, and there are two. I just have two random, two random couples. They don't have children, they just like to come. Or they're never gonna ask you. Yes, they have red hair, and so does this one, but this one's the red hair is from my uncle. No, that's what you say. You just say like same dad. Yeah. And they think you're just co-parenting. Yeah. But have they ever asked? Never have they ever been like that one doesn't look like you. Those 20-year-olds checking your membership card, they don't give a shit. They're like, You got a membership card, sounds good. Have fun. Like they literally don't care. Now I will say, if you choose to add four, be ready with names. Because I have been asked for their names. What are their names for like the membership like to put it into your account? Oh my god, yeah. So have some names. I'm such a bad, like on the spot. I'd be like, okay, actually, here's the thing. He doesn't have a name because one time when he was born, the doctor told me he has a condition and now he can't ever have a name. So we call him we call him something different every time. Little boy, what is your name today? No, I told you what I did, right? I gave my niece and nephew's name. Yeah, so you'd always remember it and you'll be like, fuck what I put on there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. That's smart because like my friend has a membership to like the museum here, and we go quite frequently with her as like her plus two, but I'm a plus two and Julian's a plus two for her. And then Mila was is under three, so she's free. So she'll just be like, here's my plus two, and then she's free. And her other daughter is like free or whatever too. But we're getting to the point where like we're running out of free. Yeah, she's gonna be. So now what are we gonna do? It's gonna be, I'm gonna have to always pay for one kid. No, that's stupid. Yeah, that sucks. Yeah, because you could literally tell places you have 10k. I'm like, I'm actually gonna have to pay when my friend has a membership. No. No, and also I will stop people if I see them going to a ticket booth and we don't have guests with us. I'm like, no, don't buy tickets, just come in with me. You're like a little mooch in the corner, like, hey, yeah, come over here. Yeah. Hey, you need a ticket? I mean, how many you got? What's on your bucket list? Mine? Okay, well, so water park is one. We're gonna go to the water park a lot. That's the main one on our bucket list. And then our trip to Michigan. Yes, we love Michigan, but we are, I say we love like we go annually. We literally went last year for the first time, and now we're like, we're obsessed. But here's the thing about Michigan that I know you love Michigan too. If you live near Michigan like we do, where it's just a few hours' drive north. Yeah, Hoosiers love Michigan. Because you think like, okay, it's summer. I want to go on vacation. Like, let me go to Florida, let me go to North Carolina, let me go to California, let me go somewhere with a beach. Okay, if it is summertime, you need to be going nowhere but Michigan. Yeah. Because it is the prettiest beach. Yes. It is a few hours' drive north. There's no salt. I don't know about you, but my kids taste salt in their mouth in the ocean and they're done for the whole rest of the week. There's no salt. There's no shark. There's no shark. There's no jellyfish. No. There is, you know, it's just the most beautiful vacation ever. It's cheaper than a plane ticket somewhere. Yeah. Your kids are not going to be annoying because you're the farthest you're going to go is maybe four-ish hours up north, right? And that's like perfect for little kids because after that, you know, you're just going to pull every eyelash out of your eyeball. I want to go right now. I want to go right now. If I was rich, I would have like a little summer home up there. Yeah. Summer in Michigan. Mark and I have talked about like recently. We summer. But it's a terrible place to retire because of the winter. Yes. That's the thing. Yeah. And but then, like, if you're a skier, whatever, then it has its perks in every season. Yeah. The people listening from Michigan are probably like, duh, you dumb bitch. We done told you. Michigan's the place to be. But we went last year and it was beautiful. Michigan in the summer is it's just like a drink you want to keep drinking. Yes. Like it's a hug. Because it's chilly at night still. And it's chilly in the morning, and you're drinking your coffee, but then the sun comes out and you're like, oh, I'm sweating. I gotta get in my bathing suit. Like, guys, it's so good. Yeah. And if you're looking for a, I'm not gonna say cheap, because in this economy, nothing's cheap. Yeah. But if you're like, I want to go on a family vacation, we only went for a full day. We we stayed there Friday night, stayed all Saturday, and left Sunday. This year we're doing a little bit more. We're doing like two full days there. But I mean, it was perfect. Yes. Perfect. I love that. And that's our only trip we're really taking this summer is that one. So it's my whole personality now until it happens. Noe was like running on the beach every morning because he's a runner and they like to do that. I've heard. It was just beautiful. I can't barely walk on the beach. Oh my god, I know. People who run on the beach, I'm like, why? Yeah. Like people who run, why? But people who run on the beach really why? And I'm curious, like, are they running down where the sand is like smooth? I assume. I don't know. Or are they running where it's like flipping up? And are you getting wet? Like, I don't know. Yeah, is your feet getting soggier because the waves are like rushing up? Um it's not for me. Just sit down. When we were on in Puerto Rico for a trip, nobody was like, I'm gonna go for a run right now. I was like, You're fucking barefoot. And he was like, Yeah, I'm just gonna do it. And he did it. And I was like, This is honestly my worst nightmare. Like barefoot bathing suit? Yes, he was just in trunks, barefoot, just ran down like a mile down the road down the beach and ran back. Can you imagine if we did that? Oh my god, everything would be floppy. Yes. I'd be chafing, I'd be hot. Oh my god. My feet would hurt so bad. No, that's is he okay? You know, one of these days, watch me be like an avid runner, like in five years. But anyways, and then it's not it's not on the conversation. And I'm gonna be like, really? Everyone's gonna be like, remember when you talk so much shit about running, and now you're like a runner. I I went through a time. You went through a running phase? I will say you do get a high. I've heard. Yeah, but the runner's high. Yeah, like after you're like, oh, I feel so good. Yeah. But you can get a high off of any workout. So I'm fine on my bike. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, my knees are much better for it. So get a bike high. We're good. Yeah. That's fine. And then I heard this from another creator, because I'm a creator. I heard this from another creator on TikTok. Actually, I'd I'd tell you her name if I remembered it or anything about it. I only remember this detail, and I was like, Yes, I'm doing that. She called it, uh, she said, I want to be a yes mom this summer. So I'm building like a yes mom trunk of her car. And I was like, that's a brilliant idea. So basically the point of it is to put things like make a little kit or a tote bag or bog bag or whatever. Get like a thing set up in your trunk so that no matter what happens in the summer, you don't have to be like, well, we don't have swimsuits. Well, we don't have, you know, a towel, we don't have a change of clothes, we don't you you can always say yes because you don't have to worry about things like that. So I have been curating my yes mom bag. It's in my trunk. I put a spare bathing suit for each kid's, a spare towel, spare change of clothes. I put grippy socks for like an indoor thing. I have grippy socks, sunscreen, bug spray. I put chalk in there just so that we're at the park and they're like, man, I wish we had chalk. I don't know. I'm really trying to think of everything. And it's all in this back, swim toys. I mean, really anything to wear, raincoats in case it's like start-I put two raincoats in there. Your sunscreen's gonna melt though. Take it out when it gets too hot. It's the spray. It's gonna get funky. Really? Yeah, I don't like that. Take that out. Does it expire if it gets hot? But I sunscreen. It it's it gets watery. I don't like that in there. Take it out. Okay. I'm probably not gonna take it out because I'm gonna forget to put it back in, but I do always have sunscreen though. But yeah, so I am like now fully prepared. And then if the kids are like, you know, darn it's raining, go get the raincoats from the car and worry about it. Yeah, yes. If I had a like a minivan or something, I'd probably put the scooters in there and just like leave them in there. God, I'd kill for I would do some dirty, awful things for a minivan. So bad. Like Nora was like, when are we gonna get one of those cars with the slidey doors? Like I was like, when we stopped paying for childcare. Yeah. I would sell dirty underwear for a van right now. 100%. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. For sure. I would sit in that baby for a week and then nail it off. I was getting me a Honda Odyssey. God, when those other moms just press that button and I'm like, oh, and their kids just hop out. And meanwhile, my Camri's doors are slamming into everybody's car. Yeah, you're like, sorry. You leave a little sticker, a little I'm sorry, a little frowny face on your way out. No, that's fun though. No, like I would put more in my yes mom trunk if I had a bigger trunk, but I'd tell. So, but yeah, that's my big not that really had nothing to do with the summer bucket list. But the point was now I'm able to do my summer bucket list things. Maybe some target bags too, like for wet clothes or something. I have wet bags. Oh, yes, yeah, see, I'm I'm ready for anything that comes upon the summer bucket list. Yeah. And then my last item, the only the only one note Julian has really contributed since asking to go to Florida and he was shut down, was he wants to make tie-dye shirts. So that will put that on the list too. That's really like channeling a 90s summer too, which is really a hot topic right now. It is. I've seen a lot of people say, I want a 90s summer. Let's bring back pools in the front yard, sprinklers, yeah, popsicles. Yeah. And then we'll do all our basic stuff, like the zoo. Yeah, of course. You know, yeah. We may put like a baseball game on there because Julian's really into baseball. Yeah, fun. Yeah. Yeah. Has Nora contributed anymore? No. Okay. Let's read others. Oh, well, I mean, we're just like like, like I said, we're getting in the swing of things. We did start a tour chart, which she probably doesn't want to put on the summer bucket list. No, but she likes it. Okay. Because she likes to be fine to put the stickers on. Their age, they like to be told that they're so responsible. I think. Yes. Well, and I really like this tour chart because it's a sticker amount goal for the we. So her goal right now is 40 stickers, which allows for some, like, you know, this is gonna be perfect. So it allows for some skips. But one of the things on there is reading 20 minutes a day. Oh, because she can read. Well, she needs to practice a little more, but yeah, they learn in kindergarten. Yes, yeah. Okay. So, and also that is correlating with the library right now, is doing a summer reading thing where if you track your reading, you can get prizes for like one hour, five hours in a month. Yeah, it's kind of like Book It. Remember Book It with the Yes, and you got a Pizza Hut? Yes! So, so we're kind of trying to work more on liking reading. I feel like I book it went on for longer than I probably should have been doing Book It. Like, I don't know. I feel like I was like reading, like, how long does that last? I think just through elementary school. Okay. I was like, I feel like I had like boobs, and they were like, you seem old. And I was like, give me my personal pan. But like, you remember going in there with that pen? You're like, fuck yeah. Yeah, don't give me my personal pan, bitch. That was the best. I I actually want a personal pan so bad right now. Do you? I'm hungry now. I don't like Pizza Hot Pizza. It's not my favorite. What's your favorite? Papa John. Oh my god, that's my favorite. Anyways, let's read some of everybody else's. Okay. Okay, someone said, All I know is we are heading back to the 90s, 2000s, and I'm throwing out the screens. So true. We were just talking about that. Yeah, honestly. Listen, screens have their place. Like that today we went to the museum in the morning, and then in the afternoon, I needed to stare at a wall in silence for a while. It was pouring down rain, and Caleb was napping, and Nora watched a lot of TV. Well, do your kids it has a place. Yes, because Nora doesn't nap. Yeah. My kids, every day we do a quiet time. They they pick one movie in the middle of the day, usually like 2 p.m. They watch that movie, and then we get back up and go back outside because they need it. They need to be forced. Otherwise, they'll play all day until they're like, you know, crawling. They're so exhausted. They need a time where they can come in, eat a snack. Yeah. I make them chill, and then they can go right back out to playing. Yeah. So that means you're not breaking down at six o'clock. Yes. Because my kids don't nap anymore. Yeah. So they need a little moment to calm down. Yeah. So they have a place. Yeah, it has a place. On a rainy summer day, what else are you gonna do? You spent the whole morning at the museum. Seriously. Like you need to, you need a minute. My kids do behave better though if we limit screen time. Oh, I agree. Yeah, which I hate that. I agree. But nothing wrong with a couple hours, but nothing wrong with that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Don't let them spend the whole summer on the screen. Okay, someone wrote in and said swim forever because I'm terrified of being pregnant in Arizona. Oh my god, you live in Arizona, Alvin. In Arizona person. I've only been to Arizona one time and it was hot. I've never been. It's a better hot. I will say it's a better hot because it's a dry heat, whereas we Indiana people we have a humid heat. And so there it could be like a hundred degrees and it feels not as bad, but still you need a pool. Yeah. If you live in Arizona, I'm sure you're like, you just the every house probably comes with a pool. Yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. Just sit in that pool, honey. There's no need to get in. And pregnant in the summer. Don't even wear a bathing suit. Just get in the pool. Okay. Somebody said we're gonna our bucket list is paddle boats on the canal. I like doing that. Yeah, we've done that. We did the little swans in downtown Indy. If you live in Indy, they have little swans. I talked about it for Mother's Day. Yeah. Okay, let's see. Spend as much time doing fun things before my only baby starts kindergarten. I feel this. Deep, deep, deep in my bones. T's and peas. I was there last summer. It'll be all right. Julian just graduated from preschool and we threw him a little graduation party. Cute. And it was so fun. So add that to your bucket list if your kids are going off to kindergarten. We just put some balloons up. We got them a little cap and gown. We got them a cake. And it was so fun. And we took the cutest pictures ever of them in their cap and gown. And I got them a little, like little Dollar Tree gift. They just thought it was so fancy and cool that they liked it to graduate. Yeah. And it made me so sad though. Yeah, the summer before kindergarten, it hits different. It does. And I see so many sad videos of people saying, like, the summer before kindergarten, that's the last time they're ever little. After that, you lose their littleness. They're grown after that. This is your last summer. And I'm like, fuck. I feel like I gotta soak it in. Like I'm gonna just like miss it. So now every moment I'm like, this is his last time riding the bike before summer. His last popsicle before kindergarten. Because I feel like the internet makes me feel that way. No, let me help help you feel better about that. No. I mean, you do have to slow down this summer though, and you have to soak it in because you're like, oh my gosh, you know, you're going to school five days a week. And yeah, this is the last time I'm gonna have him. Yeah. Not like that for then, you know, however months they're in school. Yeah, but no, they're still little. Nora was still setting her dolls up today, and she was talking to them, and yeah. So no, it's not like that. Have fun this summer though. Yeah. Kia. Okay, uh, last one. Someone said bucket list is backyard dinner parties. I just had one of these. We invited people in the neighborhood and um, well, cook out. I mean, Marco, like, we have a smoker. If anyone out there wants to talk about meat, my husband isn't available and he likes to talk about things that you can put on your smoker. I don't know what a smoker is. Yes, you do. It's um like a Traeger, like a green egg. I don't know what a Traeger or a green egg is. Wow, okay. You don't live with Marco. You like put meat on in the morning and it smokes all day. Okay. That's the way it cooks. Yes. It's very small. It's smoke. Yes. Well, it's like on uh you buy uh chips that are they add flavor to it. So it's like hickory chips or different flavored chips. Okay. We're a smoker family. They're gonna put me a couple years ago where I said, I love you. I cannot talk about me another minute. Uh-huh. You need a support group for this. Yeah, you need to join a Facebook Smokers for Life. Yes. It's a whole like personality. Yeah. So, anyway, so we had people over, also say, and it was like raining all day. I was like, dang, this sucks. We're gonna have to move inside. This is not the vibe. And then at like 20 minutes before they were coming over, the sun came out and I said, move everything outside. That's spring. I don't even think that Marco knew I had purchased this little pool on Amazon. I said, There's a box in the garage, get it out, fill it with water. Go, go, go. It was so fun. But at like 10 o'clock at night, Nora and her friends were running a lemonade stand out of the window well of my house. It got 90s vibes because, like, I just have this vivid, like core memory in my head of when you're little and you're just like, wow, it's so late at night. I can't believe I'm up this late. My friends are here. And you like don't want to disrupt your parents because you're like, they're gonna realize we're up. Yeah, yeah. Exactly. And they're gonna be like, yeah, you go to bed. And you're like, you just feel wild and yes, filthy. Yes. And that was the vibes of the night, and it was so perfect. I love that. And also, if you're looking for a moving crew, I cannot recommend Nora's kindergarten friends enough because the amount of shit that they moved from the basement to the lawn was impressive. Uh by the end of the night, like Marco and I were bringing it. Your playroom was outside. And I'm like, I didn't even see them bring this stuff out. Yeah. Like they moved it all the way from the basement to the yard. Yeah. So yeah, I love a backyard party. My friend is having a which she didn't write in and say this. So now I'm mad at her. And I'm seeing her tomorrow and I'll let her know. But she's having a drive-in, like dinner party, like for the kids, like a movie night. She's got a big outdoor projector. Oh, cute. And so she's gonna play a movie, she's gonna have popcorn and like candy. And she told us to uh have all the kids bring, if they want to, like some, like a like one of your toy cars or bikes or trikes, whatever they or like whatever they want to sit in for like the drive-in movie theater. And I think that is such a fun idea. That is cute. A little backyard movie night. Yeah, we had a drive-in in my hometown growing up. We do too. Yeah. Drive-in movie theaters are a rarity. Yeah, they are. They're far and few in between. And that was a lot of fun memories for me as a child was going to the drive-in movie theaters. But actually, and when I was in high school, and they can't arrest me for this now because maybe statue of limitations or some shit. I don't know. Um, but I didn't have a lot of money because and my friends would like want to go the drive-in. And I was like, Well, I don't have any money for the drive-in. You're in the trunk. I was in the trunk, I was a trunker. So dangerous. Okay, for in my defense, we I don't care about the money, that's so dangerous. Yes. Okay, what are you gonna do? So go, should I go back in time and tell myself not to do that? I can't. Oh my god. Um, we would park at the gas station right across the street. And then I would get into the trunk, and then we would go across the street to the movie theater, and then I would hop out. And sometimes I'd also be holding contraband, aka a pizza or something, because you weren't allowed to bring outside food. So I'd be like in the trunk with the pizza. What a stupid rule. I know. Dare you tell me? Because that's where what a drive-in, like, that's where they make their money. It's my car. I know, I know. And we do, and we bring our own stuff. Yeah, I'll also go up and get like a popcorn or something from them. Yeah, but anyways, border patrol, they're like gonna search your car. Yeah. Well, listen, so that worked for me fine. And then I graduated and went to college, and I I passed the torch to my sister, who was a couple years behind me. And then she was doing that for a while until they caught her hopping out of the trunk. Yeah. And so then I don't think she was banned from the movie theater, but probably heavily, you know, discouraged to come back. Or they just made her ride ticket. I don't know, I'm being dramatic, but yeah. So uncomfy. I love a movie driving movie, though. Yeah, we too. Okay, that was fun. Okay, great summer ideas. I hope everybody got some good ideas. Well, have a good weekend, guys. See you in a minute.
