Hello, sugar mamas. I'm Emily. And I'm Ellie. And this is Mama Needs a Minute. And we are in almost out of summertime. I mean, it is mid-July. Oh, I thought you meant today. I was like, Ellie, oh yeah. It's getting dark. No, we only have like less than a month left until school starts. I'm I'm like, what? When it's kindergarten. I know. Yeah. Oh my god, it's horribly sad. Yeah. Horribly sad. No, and Mila's starting preschool too. So I feel like I'm getting hit like really hard with two kids that are gonna be out of the house for minimum three days a week because Mila's only gonna go a few days. No, but that time, if like if I don't have to sleep for work, and both my kids are off for the summer, but if I don't have to sleep for work and they're both at school, because Caleb only goes three days a week, there is no time that goes faster than that, like four hours. I'm sure I'm running around, just trying to get stuff done so that I can enjoy my time with when they get home. Yes. Yeah. I mean, but you kind of forget like how much easier running errands is. Like, because over the summer, we're all going to Costco. Right. You're like, it's only been five minutes and I'm done. I have to do another lap. Yes. There's no way I'm done. And you spend so much less because you don't have the little humans going, can I get that? Yeah. Yes, that's fine. That's yeah. Sure. That's so true. And I do think about it like most of the time, since when I'm home with them, I'm like doing chores for the first half of the day. Anyways, they're just there. And then we stop and we kind of like clock out of that, and I switch into like being with them. So it will be kind of the same. They just, I just won't be able to like hear them in the other room yelling at each other. But sometimes I make errands the like the field trip for the day. Because I always say I'm a field trip mom. Yeah. We have an activity, we're doing something, we're getting out of this house. Yeah. And sometimes the field trip is Costco and Aldi. Which is fun. Yeah. Nora, right now, lately, which I remember this, like in the summer, when you go to the grocery store with your mom or dad late at night, and you're like, it's nice. Yeah. And she said the other day, and I kind of forgot about that feeling, but she goes, Oh, are we going to go into the store? Because it was like later in the evening. I said, Yeah. Like it wasn't a pickup. And she goes, Oh, good. Yeah, like a fun. So exciting. Yeah. And I was like, Oh my gosh, I remember that. Do you remember that? Yeah. The feeling of like I'm out past my bedtime. I'm doing what the grown-ups do usually. Yes. Yeah, that's how my kids felt on 4th of July. They just kept being like, and what time is it now? Yeah. I'm like 11:30. They're like, what? 11? Mila's like, I have no idea what that means. Oh my God. Yeah, she was zonked on 4th of July. So how was she the next day? Mila is mommy's twin in the sense that she's a sleeper. Like Julian, he's up when Noe leaves for work, usually like 7:30, 8 o'clock. He's awake. And I'll just put TV on for him and continue sleeping until Mila gets up. And she'll sleep till like 10 o'clock sometimes. I have to go in there and wake her up. Yeah. And she goes to bed at a decent time. Like they both go to bed by like eight o'clock. And she just sleeps. Yeah. She, but she doesn't nap anymore. Oh, yeah. So I think she she's just a heavy sleeper now. But she's probably gonna have like a rough start then to preschool because she's gonna be like, what the hell? I have to wake up at eight. Oh, yeah. She might be a grump. Maybe you should start doing that like a couple weeks before. Yeah, and she eats like three foods. So packing her lunch is gonna be lovely.

SPEAKER_00

She's never gone to preschool. No. Oh my gosh, Caleb's.

SPEAKER_01

It's a first for everybody. Caleb's lunch was humiliating. Yeah, like pretzels and like peanut butter sandwiches is all Mila's gonna want in hers. Is she allowed to have peanut butter? Yes, they can have peanut butter. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Which I know is kind of crazy. You'd think the allergy kids. Yeah.

unknown

I know.

SPEAKER_01

Actually, I don't know if his mom listens to this podcast. I guess I'll find out if she texts me. But one of our neighbors, the kid, her son was in my house the other day. It was really hot. They were over playing outside. They asked if they could have a play date inside. And I was like, yeah, that's fine. And which I love a play date. You can do so many activities and they just like don't know you're there. Yes. It's crazy. But, anyways, he was inside and he like, it was kind of like, have you seen that TikTok video that's going around where the little kid goes in that woman's house to have like a play date and she asks him if he wants some dinner. And she's like, Are you allergic to anything? And he's like, Is there amoxicillin in this? Because I'm allergic to amoxicillin. Have you seen that?

SPEAKER_00

So cute.

unknown

So funny.

SPEAKER_01

No. He tells her, Are you? I'm allergic to ammoxicillin. Yeah. Is there amoxicillin? And she's like, Well, there's no amoxicillin in this. In the spaghetti. And now that's like a viral joke. Like in comments on TikTok and stuff, people will be like, is there amoxicillin in it? I want that. But, anyways, it was kind of like that. He was like, Can I have something to drink? And I was like, sure, do you want some milk or water? Um, we don't have any like juice or anything, but are you allergic to milk? He's like, No, I'm only allergic to peanut butter. I was like, What? That's the worst one. Oh my gosh. There's your epipin. Literally, I was like, wait, do you like what? I have so many questions. But going back to the lunch situation at that age, you start off strong. Like the first like couple weeks, you're like quartering the grapes. You fucking know they aren't gonna eat that. And you're like, yes, of course, we always eat this. And like you put like a cheese stick in. Caleb wouldn't touch cheese. Yeah. No, if it was the in there, like you think you think, and you fill every compartment. And then after a while, you're like, I'm not fooling anybody. There's like three pretzels and half a sandwich in there. Not even a sandwich. Like, because he won't even eat a sandwich. Yeah. I I mean, towards the end, it was like yogurt bites and a pouch. He still eats baby food pouches. And I tell myself it's okay because that's the only fruit or vegetable he can't he'll eat. I think that too, when I'm like, okay, she only eats five things, but it's one from each food group. So can I be like, Yeah. I mean, is it really that bad? I mean, not really, because she eats like no vegetables, but hardly any fruit. Yeah, no. Yeah. But she likes carbs and like protein. Yeah. She has like a carnivore diet, kind of. He'll eat again one day. Anyways, um, anything new with you this week? Actually, something I want to talk to you about. Have you seen you probably haven't seen this, grandma, but um full of compliments. Have you seen this trend lately where people are talking about dressing like your Venus sign? No. Okay. Well, there's this thing that I really want to follow. I know me and my like hobbies and like ideas, and they never really follow through with them. This one I do, guys, want to follow through with it. And you should try it too. I guess if you dress like your not zodiac sign, but your Venus sign. Well, all we can look yours up real fast. Mine, like, so I'm like a Pisces is my zodiac sign, but my Venus sign is an Aquarius. So if you type in, like figure out, you can just go to any like what's my Venus sign.com and find out what your Venus sign. I think that's like, you know, you can do like your moon sign or whatever, how the moon was in relation to this space or whatever. I think it's like where Venus was when you were born, because you type in like your your birthday, what where you were born at, like what city, and it gives you like your Venus sign. And they say if you dress like your Venus sign, it's supposed to be like the most flattering for you, the most like your personality, and it's supposed to help you feel like more confident and you just like look better. It's kind of similar to like dressing in your color palette. You know what I mean? People can go get color coding. Oh, I have to look. Okay, look up your Venus sign. Does it give you examples of how to dress? Yeah. So find your Venus sign. And then if you just go into like TikTok and type in Aquarius Venus, like dressing your Aquarius Venus sign or whatever, it will give you examples. So, for example, for an Aquarius Venus sign, it gave me a lot of like leather and reds and kind of like a moody vibe. Cheetah prints, a lot of like standout prints, like cheetah, zebra, furs, a lot of stuff I wouldn't typically reach for. But but knowing that that would be like something that would be flattering on me makes me really curious to try those things out. I feel like a lot of people tell me I look good in red, and I never go for that because that's just not something I would typically pick. But then when I wear it, I'm like, oh yeah, they're right. I do look good in red. And that's like a main color for like an Aquarius Venus sign. Mine's cancer. They have Sabrina Carpenter as an example for cancer venous, prioritizing comfort, nostalgia, and feminine softness. Do you feel like you could do that? Yeah. I feel like I do. So, see, you probably subconsciously already do it. So now you know.

SPEAKER_00

Now we know.

SPEAKER_01

So everyone can look up their Venus sign and then just type in how to dress like your Venus sign and tell me if that works. Maybe you already do that. Maybe I'm late to the game. Maybe we just do it naturally. I don't because I have no style, but that's again another thing is like I never can find my style and I've always wanted one. I've talked about that before. So maybe this will help me find my style. You know what we never discussed either further was that remember when we were talking on here about when you have an obsession with a certain time period, everybody goes through that phase. Yes. And that mine was civil war. Yes. And then remember what our friend said? No. Okay. Oh, yes, I think I do. Tell him, tell him. So our friend texted us and was like, so there's a theory that the time period that you were obsessed with, since everybody goes through that, was where you've been before. Yeah. So maybe I was in the civil like civil war era. Yeah. What do you think I was doing? Milking cows. Yeah. I don't think I was involved. Civil war. You're probably having uh hopefully on the right side of things. Maybe I was like on the I was like helping people on the underground railroad. Yeah. I was obsessed with learning about the underground railroad. Yeah. Obsessed. What if you were housing a soldier in your home? A soldier? Didn't they do that? No slaves. No, but like, do you know in those early war periods you would have to like give your home up to soldiers? Like in the nightingale by Kristen Hannah. Oh yeah. What if you had a soldier in your home? Yeah, me too. And you have to like cook them dinner and shit. I'd be like, I actually don't do that. My husband doesn't. He's at war right now. Yeah. I was obsessed with the Great Depression. So what was I doing? Fighting for your life. I think I'd be skinnier in this life, though. I would be used to famine. Yeah. And like I'd probably have more of a wider palate because I'd be used to like eating like rats and shit. But I'm not. I'm actually really kind of picky. Can we confirm that people were actually eating rats? You seem quite confident on this. Well, the only s well, actually, my great-grandma had to eat what was it? Raccoon or some shit. Squirrel, maybe? She was eating vermin. Is that the right name? I mean, a squirrel is a rat that climbs a tree. Yeah. Yeah. So with a bushy tail. She told you that? Well, she's dead, but somebody told me that she told it. Is it because of the Great Depression or because we were camping? No, probably both. They probably didn't have a house because they were in the Great Depression. No. The Great Depression is actually not funny, guys. Yeah, I don't know why we're laughing about it, but I do know I wasn't cut out for it. No. I also know, and I've I told you this before I was not cut out for the Oregon Trail or anything like that because of that show we watched. If I'm walking more than one mile, it has to be my hocus. Yeah, and the minute the aliens come down and say we're taking over, shoot me, Dad, please. I'm done. The aliens? Yeah. On the Oregon Trail? No, in the apocalypse. Oh. No. Oh my God. Speaking of that, I know I went and watched Disclosure Day. It's a new Steven Spielberg movie about like aliens like always being here and like the government like hiding it from us. Oh, like that lady on the plane. And it's an alien. Yeah. But here's my grievance with this movie. The aliens were like the stereotypical alien that you like would draw, like a cartoon alien with the big eyes and like the big head and the little body. Come on. Like we all know there's aliens amongst us, but they don't look like the that.

SPEAKER_00

Do you think they look like Rocky Balboa?

SPEAKER_01

No, from Project Hail Mary. I don't know what they look like. I just don't think they look like that. I honestly think they probably look like us, just with different like adaptations. Like my guess, maybe on their planet they don't need to see like Rocky's from Project Hailary. So maybe they look exactly like us, but they evolved to just like have no eyes. I know they're just like nothing there. Like Pylox White with no belly button. Or like maybe they don't like hear on their planet, so they don't have ears. Or maybe they have like, they look like us, but they have like three arms because they needed three of them for some reason. What was that? Or maybe they have gills because they have to like swim more on their water because their planet's like mostly water. I don't know. I'm just saying I think they look more natural like us than we think they do. I don't think they look like an alien, like in the cartoon. You could have made this a little bit better, Steven. Mr. Spielberg, come on. I just need to make aliens absolutely none of my business. I don't care to know any of them. But and the second, like, craziest thing about this movie is that they act like everyone's gonna see that aliens are real and be like so shocked. Yeah. Okay, but we've already kind of we already kind of know they're real. I don't think really anybody on this planet is like definitely not. No, no aliens.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, there are.

SPEAKER_01

There are people who that is that's crazy. But you know what, like I just don't, I think we've gotten so much like proof now, like that the government has like given us that this movie about the government hiding this thing from us is like, okay, yeah, I know they're hiding a lot from us right now, way more than we could ever comprehend. But if, you know, the president came out right now and was like, guess what, aliens are real, we'd be like, yeah, anyways, where's the Epstein files? You know, like like Lisa, I know they're real, babe. I'm sure there are a lot of people who think that they've already met aliens, and then there's a whole people who think there are no aliens because we're so self-absorbed. I think there's uh probably a lot of people who are like, no, of course we're the only ones. That's insane. I sure there are a lot of people who think that. I know. And not even getting into anything deep, like you just cannot tell me this whole vast universe. Yeah. And we're the only, you know, there's probably, you know what really tripped me up actually the other day, now that we're on this topic, I and we have to continue, because this really gets me going. I'm like so horny for this topic. Any kind of, any kind of space talk, I am like so obsessed with. Really? I couldn't care about it. I know we've talked about it before. Yeah. But anyways, someone the other day made this point, and I was like, oh my god, my mind is like wide open now with this endless possibilities of this. They were like, there's just so many senses that we aren't, we don't, we don't even have unlocked in our brain capacity. We could have other entities here on earth right now that we can't even see because we don't even, I mean, we only can see so much light. There's only so much of the rainbow. We even can we even can see, you can't not agree with me that there are things that we probably can't even see. Surely, yeah, like ghosts. Yeah, that's one example. Yeah. Like that we can't see energy, but we know it's here. You know what I mean? Yeah. We can't see energy in a microwave. Yeah, we can't see those kind of things. Flat earthers, flat earther. Yeah, I'm just saying I don't think there's an alien in my living room right now that we're just not aware of. You don't know. I'm really, really confident on this. Alien? Alien. Tickle Emily's ear right now. Do I think that we'll ever meet them? No. You don't? No. I think Earth will blow up and we'll all die before we ever get a chance to meet them. Wow, dark. Um, I think it'll be quick.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think it'll hurt.

SPEAKER_01

No, I I think you're probably right because honestly, I think even if they they probably know we exist more than we know they exist. And they're probably like, eh, I ain't fucking with that. They got some shit going on. They got a lot of shit going on. We're gonna stay out of that. Yeah. Do you know there is an asteroid that has like a 0.01% chance of hitting Earth, like in 2037 or something? Okay. Yeah, astronomers are watching it. Supposedly it's not gonna hit us. I'm unconvinced as of now, but crazy if it does. It won't hurt. I hope it like goes fast. I hope I'm just like, what's that pretty star? Wow, it's getting closer. Whoa. It's hot in here. Now I'm just seeing a lot of light. Anyway, should we get into it? Yeah, sled. Okay, today we're talking budget parenting. We had you guys write in what you think is worth it, what's worth the splurge, what could be great valued, you know. We're also thinking about Walmart. We're also playing a little game of this or that. Whether you think these popular baby items are worth it or if you could do without. So we'll talk about ours and then we'll read your guys's. Okay. What do you think? What's your number one this is worth the high price tag? Memberships. Got it. Yeah. Good answer. Good answer. Good answer. Good answer. Zoom membership, museum membership, pass it. We get our money's worth out of this. And we always do the plus two so we can invite friends. Yes. I agree. Mine's my first one's kind of on that topic.

unknown

What?

SPEAKER_01

Mine is a gym membership, a nice gym membership, specifically where they watch your kids. That is worth it to me. I feel like that's worth the splurge for your mental health for sure. And all the things that come with it. My kids like going to the gym. I love going to the gym. I love the amenities it offers. I would never downgrade. That's my splurge for sure. Does your gym have a pool? Yep. Oh, that's so nice. Yes. That's where my kids are doing swim lessons too. Yes. And it's like a pool membership too. Yes. And it's, I mean, it's not free because you're paying the membership, but like you can go in and swim in the middle of winter. Yeah. Oh, that's so nice. Yeah, there's a gym, like a basketball area, there's the daycare, there's, and then there's all the amenities for adults. Yes. And my gym membership comes with classes. You can take any classes that are offered there. Yeah. And also a membership takes the stress out of like if we paid for one trip to the zoo and we splew a hundred dollars. Okay, like everybody better behave. Everybody better. You better last a full eight hours. Yes. Yeah. The bears better be out and about. Yeah. And now it's like if we go for half hour, okay, like cool. Whatever. Yeah. Yeah. I love that. Yeah. Do you have any other high budget ones you think are worth it? No. I'm very cheap. I have a little one that I think is worth it, baby-wise. And that it, there's not a lot of baby things I, even as a postpartum nurse, would recommend to you that needs to be like good quality. It can be like the cheaper version and it will do just the same, in my opinion. But one thing as a mom of two that I found I I will am a stickler on that I just feel like makes it is a high quality burp cloth. And I know that's so like little, but I got those like Copper Pearl makes them. I know there's some other, like you'll probably get like higher quality burp cloths from Amazon too. They're like those thicker burp cloths. I could use one of those my whole day on this one burp cloth. And it would last me so many spit-ups, way less laundry. They worked so well. And then you have those like cheaper ones that are thinner, and you're going through them like crazy. And then you're out of burp cloths. And then, you know, the dog's chewing it up because it's so thin and flimsy. Now you're doing so much laundry. It's such a little thing, but to me, that was so worth it to have like five quality burp cloths versus like 30 cheaper ones. I will die on that hill. That was my one thing. I was like, great value, everything. But and Mila was a bad spitter. So it was just nice to have a thick quality burp cloth. I know it seems like so like little, but it really helped my mental health. Yeah. This damn burp cloth. So that's my that's my slurry. Niche. I know it is niche. What do you think is not worth it? Most of it. Literally. I mean, a lot of it. Yeah. One thing that people need to realize too is a huge expense is car seats. And every car seat has to pass a certain safety standard. All of it. It's just the you're paying for the name and you're paying for like the look, which who gives two shits? Um because they're literally gonna shit in it. Yes. I'm not saying go and buy a used one off Facebook. I would not purchase a used car seat on Facebook. Right. You don't know if it's been in a crowd. No, but I'm saying like get an inexpensive one from Walmart because it's they're all the same. Like these car seats are getting out of hand. I was a car seat tech, so I was certified in car seat safety for a few years. And the number one thing we taught was there would be so many parents that would ask us, what is the safest car seat for my baby? I need the safest one. The safest car seat is the one that you will use correctly. That is the safest one. So there are some like the cheapest of car seats that can be a little bit difficult for first time parents if like the tightening straps are in the back of the car seat instead of in the front little pool thing, things like that. That would be my only complaint, is it you have to be able to use it correctly. Yeah, that's a good point. So if you feel like you need this kind of car seat because that's the one that you're gonna use the safest, then by all means. But but the safest car seat is the one that you're gonna use correctly. So you do not need to buy the bougie's car seat to be the safest. I also like can't think of uh anything big, like big baby items that I didn't purchase, use, or just got hand-me-down. Yeah. Maybe a crib just simply because nobody was like handing one down at the time. You use it for such a short time. And I used to, before having kids, I was like, oh my gosh, this is so nice of people giving me this stuff. And it is incredibly generous. But now I know that you're actually doing them a favor. Yeah. By getting it out of their house. Out of their house. Oh my gosh. Yes. And making it feel make them feel better, like, oh, it's getting used. Yes. Like I'm not just dumping it out of goodwill and like then they end up throwing it out or whatever. Agreed. Yeah. Yeah. And baby stuff, like you said, like Julian's age now is hard to get hammy downs, I'm finding because they they get more dirty now that he's like a six-year-old boy. Agree. But baby stuff you can find so nice. Yeah. Because it's used for a couple months. Yeah. My thing that I would say is expensive and not worth it. And this may be unpopular of an opinion. Um, but I can say this from personal experience because I did buy this and then was like, that was totally not worth splurging on, was any kind of like sleep coach. Sleep, like uh, what's it called? Like uh like an expert. Yeah, like a package for like learning how to get your baby to sleep. I bought that as a new mom and it was hundreds of dollars, mind you. And I just don't feel like it was worth it because one, every baby is different. So what worked to get Julian to sleep did not work to get Mila to sleep. There's so many factors that go into sleep and how your baby sleeps and why your baby's not sleeping or sleeping. And also a lot of those expert type people, they give a lot of information for free on their Instagram, their TikTok, all that stuff. And most of the information that I got from paying hundreds of dollars for the sleep expert to tell me how to make my baby to sleep was stuff you already know that they teach you in the hospital. Shushing, dark room, sound machine, you know, creating that kind of like safe sleep environment. I was like, I already know all this. Why did I just pay you to tell me that? You're basically paying someone to say, are you doing all these things? Okay, well, then every baby sleeps differently. I just felt like it was a lot of money. And not like when you're naive, but it's like when you're desperate, you're uh you're a new parent and you're so tired and you're so desperate for someone to just like tell you what the answer is. And so you pay this person hundreds of dollars because you just, you just feel like you need an answer because you have nowhere else. They're kind of preying almost on vulnerable new parents. So that's my unpopular opinion, maybe. I don't feel like it was worth it. Yeah. Let's read other people's. Yeah. Okay. My pediatrician encouraged us to use store brand formula because it's just as well regulated and has the same ingredients and quality as the more expensive brands. Interesting. I mean, I could see that because it's a great example. It's like Tylenol and off-brand Tylenol. Yeah. You're paying for the name Tylenol, but this, but the Dollar General Tylenol is acetamedophine. It's the exact same ingredient. Yeah. There's no difference to it. You're paying for the name name. So I'm sure it is. Yeah. A lot of people use like the Sam's Club formula or whatever. Yeah. Yeah. I actually got by because with Caleb, I mostly breastfed. I think he had like one formula bottle a day so I could sleep in between shifts. Yeah. And I would just get samples from the pediatrician. Because you didn't need it for that much. Yeah. And she knew I was like, he takes one bottle. So every time she would literally tell me, just stop by the office and ask for some cans. That's so smart. Yeah. Okay. In my opinion, baby Bjorn stuff is so overrated. Get the off brand. Half the price and works just as well. I have the baby delight bouncer and it works just fine, especially when your baby will only use it for max six months, most likely. So true. I've seen a lot of dupes for a baby. Is it Bjorn or Biorne? Or Biorno?

SPEAKER_00

Bjorn.

SPEAKER_01

Bjorn.

SPEAKER_00

It's not delivery. It's Bjorn.

unknown

That's what I was thinking.

SPEAKER_01

I've seen a lot of dupes where they it looks the exact same. Actually, my sister-in-law has a baby Bjorn bouncer, and it's not. It's like the off-bran, I believe. But it looks the exact same. You would think it was the same. Maybe I'm like too far out of babyland. I don't even know. It's just a name brand for yeah, like a fancy brand for baby swings and stuff. I think I had the baby carrier. Yeah, I think they have carriers. It was a hammy-down. Yeah. Yeah. Of course it was. Yeah. Let's see. Diaper cream comes in a spray bottle form, so you don't have to use your finger or a spatula that you have to clean. No, the spatula. This girl said, and I heard your episode, and I'm telling you, the spatula's not worth it. They make a spray, bitch. No, the spatula is worth it. Not if you have a spray. You're like, I disagree. You have to. See, you should have put that as your splurge. It's not a splurge. It's like $5 since it's worth every cent. Bury me with it. I love my Nuna stroller. 100% worth the money. Nuna, the Pippa, the Santa Maria. I don't know any of those. That was literally the name of Christopher Colmas's ships, bitch. Now we do have the Nuna is one, though. I have I have the Zoe double stroller. Zoe or Joey? Zoe. Okay. I've not heard of that one. It's a double stroller. It's a side-by-side. Is it bougie? I think so, but I bought it off of Nextdoor for $100. Okay. And I'm pretty sure that they bought it for one trip. God, you got a good deal out of that. You know, car seats, I will say the cheaper one does just as well as the more expensive one. But I'm sure I've never had a bougie stroller system, but I'm sure like that does work a lot better with like the wheels, like on terrain and stuff, how it like functions and moves. Or if you're probably so much smoother. If you're a runner and you're you probably want the jogging light, fancy. Like if you're gonna take this kid on runs a lot and miles and miles, like Ellie and I do, then Yeah, because we do that so often. I need one with like a Bluetooth speaker in it. I need one with air conditioning. I need one I can sit and just hit a button and it'll drive us like a Tesla. I mean, some of those like car seats and stuff, shit. Like for what you're paying, it better change the diaper. Literally. Yeah. Um, what was I gonna say about that? Oh, I just saw this baby product that one of our influenced, one of my influencers I follow posted about. It's this like device, probably as big as like two hands put together. You click it on your stroller and it shakes and rocks the stroller. So that you know, like if have you ever been like out in public and you're like pushing your baby in the stroller and it falls asleep and you can't stop pushing the stroller or the baby will wake up. You click this little device on it and it rocks the stroller like this.

SPEAKER_00

That's the dumbest fucking thing I've ever.

SPEAKER_01

What? I was like, that's so smart. No, that's so you can also put on your bassinet, clip it, and then the bassinet kind of rocks. I don't know. That might be worth it. No, that's absolutely worth it. I don't know anybody that has it. Why? What if your arms get tired? My God. Just keep walking. Do you know how many times get tired? You just sway. What if you don't have legs? What? This is getting out of hand. A box to click onto the side of your stroller that shakes it. Yeah. No, it's too much. Well, then I'd hate to tell you the price tag. What was it? At least a hundred. That's so stupid. Yeah. People really now that plays music. My God. So dumb. When you're when you ask me what is actually worth it, none of it. Yeah. It's all marketing. Yeah. And like you said, it's preying on people who are just like frantic to sleep. Yeah, their legs are hurting. People really are just so buying the dumbest shit. If that's the next day, open a box for my stroller. I don't know. Let me see. Always buy the knockoff sleep sacks. Spending $50 plus dollars on the name brand sleep sacks are not worth it if you can get something so incredibly similar on Amazon. Worst sleep sacks ever. You know what my favorite sleep sack was for both of my kids? The one they send you home with in the hospital. The one they give you. Ellie, what's the worst one ever? It's that stupid. The one that they that super expensive one that they send them into the nursery in. Yeah, and that's like the straps their arms down with like the mini strap and then the bigger strap, or which one? It's that material that it's so bad. Do you know what I'm talking about? What is it? And it's like this horrible thick, crunchy material. Yeah. It's not the Ollie. Yes. Who is that the one? The Ollie. You don't like the Ollie? No one does. None of the nurses in the nursery like them. Oh, I must not be in the room when you guys are all talking so shit about the Ollie. They're horrible. They're not soft. They're crunchy. I don't know if it's the same one I'm thinking of. The one that like has the pre-swaddle. Yeah, they're trash. They're crunchy and hard, and they're horrible. Anyways. I use Target brand for everything. The diapers haven't had blowouts and the wipes have worked well. Why spend double? Amen. Amen. And often at Target, they do the spend $100, get a $20 gift card. Done. Done. Like, that's easy. One box of diapers. Yeah. When Julian was a baby, I was going through that phase that every mom does where they're like, I must have all organic. And I bought him the like organic diapers. I can't remember the brand name. He broke out in the worst rash. I've heard that. He's ever had from the organic ones. And it wasn't until I went back to like the non-organic, you know, full of chemical ones that his butt did all right. Imagine what was on our asses. Oh my God. Yeah. Baby powder. That's what was on our asses. Yeah. With talcum powder in it. Yeah, we're fine. Okay, that was it for that. We're gonna read your guys' this or that's now. I asked on Instagram, what is worth the splurge to you? And this is what some people said. Unfortunately, the bottle washer, they said. Like something that washes your bottles. I've always wondered that because I've seen that before and thought, is it worth it or not? Because I don't know. Does it take up? Can't you just put them in the dishwasher or no?

unknown

I think.

SPEAKER_01

But maybe that's easier because you're doing that more frequently than like loading a whole thing of dishes into the dishwasher. I think if you were exclusively pumping, yeah, that would be that would definitely be worth it. You could throw your pump parts in there. Um and I used to think before kids at the grass and like the bottle drying thing was stupid, but there's really is a lot of little parts. Yeah, there is. Yeah. I always had a little drying rack like that. Yeah, for sure. Okay. Oh, somebody said baby brezza for the non-breastfeeding moms. That's the Keurig. The baby Keurig. Oh yeah. You know, I do feel like that would be worth it, especially like in the middle of the night. You can just stick her in there and it makes you a bottle. And it's probably perfectly temperature, right? Perfect temperature. Because it makes it like super warm. That would be a good one. I bet you'll find that one on Facebook Marketplace for sure. I like this. I like that somebody said babysitters. That's true. Oh my God. Pay them well. Pay the good ones well so they come back. For your mental health. Yeah. That's something you should splurge on. For sure. Um, let's see. Somebody said, I literally can't think of one thing because companies prey on us to make more money. And we just said that. Did I write that in?

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Someone said 360 car seats, which are those car seats that you can turn. So you can like face it towards the door and back. My sister-in-law, I always thought that those were kind of like gimmicky. Like, why? Why do you need to do that? But my sister-in-law just got one because she has a third row SUV. But her first two, her in her first row, both kids are in car seats. And so she in their rear, they're both rear facing still. So she can't pull her seat back to access that third row because her baby's rear-facing car seat stops because it hits the driver's seat. Both of them do. So she likes that she can turn the car seat, open that that second row to get to the third row, and then she can move, you know, whoever's going back there can access that. So I can see the appeal to it. Oh, for sure. Yeah. Yeah. I think that they're, I have no idea what the price is on them. I think they were kind of they kind of came out after you and I would have bought car seats. Yeah. I think they were just coming out, maybe when I was buying car seats. You want to read a couple more? Someone did say renting the snoo. Okay. I have heard of this. I have a few friends that rented the snoo and said it was well worth it. Now buying it, I don't know, but they rented it, especially since you're not using it for all but a few months, I think is probably the way to go. But that, you know, or you could just buy that thing that clicks onto your bassinet and shakes it.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my God.

SPEAKER_01

A couple of people said the baby Bjorn bouncer. What what makes this different? Well, that's what the somebody else had said that you can buy the knockoff. Yeah, that the dupe is just the same. I think it's probably the way, like the mechanism of it. But if you can find a dupe that works the same way, yeah. It's probably just the way it's set up. Yeah. I never, I never had a bouncer like that. I know what, do you know what it looks like? Yeah, I had like a rocker. They kind of like shake themselves. I didn't have one like that. I had a rocker. It didn't bounce, it rocked. It rocks. We did use it. Okay. Last one. Somebody said the silverettes for breastfeeding. You know, those little silver. Yeah. I have never used them, but a lot of I've heard a lot of good things about them. And so I tell my patients about them. And I'm like, I've never used them, but are they a splurge? I think they're they're probably like 30, 40 bucks for these little silver kind of a splurge. Yeah. Those were also something I feel like that we didn't have. No, they kind of came out recently, but I tell all my patients that I've heard really good things about them. Take it with what you will, but I've heard good things about that. Okay. Another thing I asked you guys was if there was a good dupe. If you guys have found a good dupe for a high-end product. And somebody said the maybe, or maybe it's mob or mob A. Spell it. Spelled M-A-B-E. The Mabe carrier is a dupe for the Artiepop. Do you know what the Artie Pop carrier is? Yes. It's like $400. Yes. So that's great. I love that. I love that. Dupe. Let's see. Yeah. Almost every high-end sleep sack is duped on Amazon. My biggest tip to anyone. Yeah. Really, most things are duped on Amazon. For sure. Do I like giving money to Jeff? No, but. Okay, lastly, we played a little game of this or that where we asked you if specific bougie baby products were worth it to you or not. Okay. Okay, diapers. Most people did say that pampers are huggies for us. It kind of surprises me that not the generic. Yeah. How many per what percent of people said the coterie or bougie diapers? Okay. Stupid. I don't know a whole lot of people that do that, that type of bougie. Influencers. Yeah. Yeah. Pampers, huggies work for us was 61%, and Girl Generic works just fine with 33%. Generic for me. I've never had a blowout with a target diaper. No. Yeah. Okay. Next was wagons. The Wonderfold wagon, which is a very popular but very expensive wagon, versus just a cheaper wagon. 82% of you said that a cheaper wagon will work just the same. 18% said that the Wonderfold was worth every penny. Here's the other thing is that, like, when your kids are older and you need a wagon for the beach. That's a hefty bitch to push. Just get a cheaper beach wagon. That's what we have. Yeah, we have a cheaper, just like a cheaper, it was probably like 200 bucks. And I love my wagon. But my friend got a dupe from Wayfair. It looks like the Wonderfold wagon and it was half the cost. Yeah. So if you really like that look of it, there's dupes out there for sure. But I did get a beach wagon. Yeah, we got a cheap. Mine's not a beach wagon. I mean, the kids can sit in it. Can the kids sit in it? Yeah. Oh, yeah. And mine has like a lever you can pull it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Cause yeah, the Wonderfold is heavy. Okay. Car seats. 17% said the high-end ones are where it's at. And 83% said Graco, Chico, et cetera, for us. Yeah. Yeah. Which is, I mean, we're just beating a dead horse at this point, don't we? Well, exactly. I think it's good to see that you because again, I always beat a dead horse with this one, but I'm always going back to people see influencers online and think that is everybody's life and that that's day-to-day what everybody else is doing. But even working in postpartum, we know the most popular items are the cheaper items. Yeah. You're not alone if you have a Graco stroller. Yeah. And that's nice to hear. Bassinets. We asked if the SNOO was a game changer or if you shouldn't waste your money. 88% of people said, do not waste your money. And 12% said that the snoo was a game changer. Yeah. Where you could buy that rocker. I think it's hard because, like, if I had the money, I probably would. I mean, I'm not saying that the snoo isn't a wonderful product, but the point is, is it worth your pennies? Is it really worth your pennies? As Miss Yillia would say, is it worth it? Yeah. I mean, how do you get them out of the snoo? Is my question. You unleash them. No, I mean, how do you transition? Oh, yeah, that might be hard. I don't know. We'd have to ask the snooers. Snooers weigh in. If they had trouble. How? Yeah. They're in their rock in the crib, probably. I feel like this is like a Dr. Seuss book. Like the snoozers snooze too close to the sun. And snoo on you. That's no fun. Oh, shoot. Anyway. Okay, glass baby bottles. Uh 41% said yes. And 59 said not worth it. That's pretty 50-50. Yeah. Honestly, it wasn't really a thing. I feel like I'm making it sound like, but things change so quickly. Things change so quickly. I mean, we have six-year-olds. Yeah. But I I definitely would have gotten glass. They're easier to clean. Yeah. And it uh toxic. Yes. That's exactly what I was about to say. But also, like, I'm not even like a granola y person in that way, but but plastic bottles start to smell so bad after a while. You're like, what is this holding on to? Yeah. So glass. Now, my question, because I never used glass bottles, do they like, are they kind of like shatterproof glass? Or is like my like my six-month-old gonna throw her bottle across the room and it shatters? No, they're probably like like a ball job, you know? No. Like it's it's not like a glass pane window. Okay, okay. Yeah. Yeah. How that's one of my questions. It's got some girth. How durable girth? God, that is a wild word to throw out. Okay. Yeah, that people are pretty tied with that, which I also think is kind of crazy because they are such a new product. I can't stop laughing about the Dr. Zeus.

SPEAKER_00

We are fucking rhyming up in this bitch.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, the snooers. Okay, uh, let's see. Lastly, I asked if you buy secondhand clothes for your kids or not. And 93% of people do buy secondhand, which I figured was probably gonna be the case. I just again wanted our listeners to know that they're not alone and like buying secondhand and that there's no shame in it. So I wanted you guys to see that because I buy most of my kids. Well, I buy most of my stuff from Emily's closet for free. I get let me be clear. I don't make LEP as a donation or the hand-me-down. No, but it's so funny because like on 4th of July, Mila was wearing my niece's old hand-me-down 4th of July dress, Nora's old frozen shoes slip-ons, and like somebody else's something I can't remember. I get so many from like friends and family. And someday she's gonna want to go shopping at the mall if the malls even exist. I then, and she's gonna want to buy new everything. Snooze will have taken over the mall.

SPEAKER_00

And we can't see them because our eyesight hasn't even formed. We'll just be snooing. Our senses can't pick up on it. So we're just bumping into them everywhere and they're rocking. They're rocking.

SPEAKER_01

Anyways, someday she's gonna be like, give me a hundred dollars, mom, now, or I hate you, and I'm gonna have to buy her new clothes. So for now, when she's three and I can get nice quality stuff from friends and family and once upon a child, fuck yeah. Yeah, I am not wasting my hard-earned cash on an Elsa shirt she's gonna smear spaghetti on that night, and we'll be stained forever. Yeah. So, anyways, preach it. I love that episode. That was a really good episode. Uh, we got a lot of engagement for that. So people love a good deal. Yeah, we all love a good deal. Yes. So I'm off to vacation this weekend in Michigan. Yay! But we'll be back next week for a fun little episode. Stay tuned. Yes. I hope everyone has a great fun summer weekend. See you in a minute.
