SPEAKER_00

Hello, mamas. I'm Emily. And I'm Ellie. And this is Mama Needs a Minute.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, I think we need to start with Ellie getting this off her chest. Michigan was on fire. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Wait, and ironically, no, the last episode you talked about how unlucky you are. And yeah, and this is point yeah. Of an example of how my luck just, like I told Noe, there's no reason for us to buy a lottery ticket anymore. Yeah. It's just gonna, we were gonna owe money. We're gonna scratch it off and it's gonna say, you now owe the government $5,000. No, I we were supposed to go to Michigan last weekend, as we had talked about in the last podcast episode. And we woke up the day, literally, it was like the night before the day of we were leaving. And my sister had sent me a text that was like, Have you seen this? And I clicked the link and Canada was on fire. And it was caused. If you guys didn't know that, Canada had a huge wildfire. And the smoke from the wildfires went south into like the Greater Lakes area. And Michigan's air quality at that time, last weekend, was like the worst in the entire world.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

So that kind of put a damper in our plans to go on a Michigan vacation for the weekend. So thankfully, um, because we were scrambling, we're like, what are we gonna do? It's the day of. We're supposed to leave this evening. No, that's so sad. It was so sad. And my kids are like, like, I literally opened my eyeballs to them packing their own jammies into their suitcase. They were so excited. And that's just like the most heartbreaking thing to be like, we can't go anymore. We're just supposed to sit at home all weekend. But also, we had booked an Airbnb. So what are you gonna do? This is the day we're supposed to check in. It's it's kind of hard to get a refund. You're you really can unless you paid like for that protection. And so we ended up, my sister and my sister-in-law were staying in an Airbnb down the road from us. And so they had messaged their Airbnb and they said, Hey, look, we've got littles. We really can't even be outside. I mean, nobody can be outside without like an N95 mask, but especially me, we have babies. Yeah. Is there any way we can get a refund? And they were gracious enough to offer them a refund. And so I we messaged RB Airbnb and said the same thing. Um, and they were like, Absolutely, we're sorry this happened. Oh, that was so nice. And they gave us a refund. So we were able to then take that refund and put it towards a new vacation. We ended up going to Ohio and staying. It actually was really fun because we were gonna have to split to two Airbnbs because we had so many people because there's like 15 total of us. But when we switched our vacation, we were able to go into one Airbnb that held like all 15 of us. And we went and got day passes for Great Wolf Lodge. Have you ever been? No, was it fun? It was so fun. I looked on, I didn't have much time to research. We were just like, we have to be indoors because the smoke plans on traveling south into Indiana region um in the next couple days. So even if we like went somewhere else that was outside, we're gonna end up getting the smoke. Yeah. So we have to just plan something indoors. Where are we gonna go that's available that can also house all of us? And the age ranges are like six months to six years. So it's gotta be like fun for everybody. And also not like a horrible drive because we're not gonna go to like Florida on the limb for a weekend. And so we ended up doing Great Wolf Lodge because it's an indoor water park. But I hadn't looked up anything about Great Wolf Lodge before we'd net, we've never gone. And it was really fun. I've heard some like debatable things. Like when I looked at it later, some people were like, Don't waste your money. And some people are like, This is the most fun vacation my kids have ever had. I loved it. My kids loved it. We didn't stay in Great Wolf Lodge, so we didn't do like, I know they have you can do like a magic quest and there's bowling and dinner and all this stuff. Like it's a big resort. We didn't do any of that because we just booked our Airbnb and stayed there, but we bought the day passes to Great Wolf Lodge and actually healthcare workers get a discount. Oh, it's like 15%. Wow. Yeah, it made a big difference and just went there for the whole day. And it was so nice. And I love that they have life jackets. I feel like I'm I sound like an ad for Great Wolf Lodge. Great Wolf Lodge. If you want to sponsor me, yeah, this is not a paid ad, although it's sounding like it. They have life jackets so that and every kid's like in a life jacket, which is nice. Obviously, I'm like paying attention to my kids, but it's nice to know they're in a life jacket for when they like pop out of the water slide. Yeah, you know, and it's one less thing to have to pack. And my favorite part of a vacation with my friends is when we put the kids to bed. And we have we usually play games all night, and I love a board game. So we play games like all night, and there's like there was seven total adults, so that was really fun. Yeah, that is big group every night. We stayed up way too late doing board games, and then of course, our kids wake up at like seven the next morning, so that was rough, but it would it ended up being such a good vacation. Yay! My sister was like, honestly, this was less work for me than Michigan, so it worked out because I didn't have to worry about my kid in like a lake. Yeah. Or sand. Yeah. So it ended up being really fun. I don't know what the rooms look like, but I would definitely go to the water park again. I am sad because we do love our Michigan vacation that we go on. I'm just thankful that um they give us a refund because they did not have to do that.

SPEAKER_02

You're gonna be like, so we're just gonna have to bring a bunch of crayons and paint and markers, and it's just gonna be a house of bored kids. They're gonna find the toilet paper, they may clog some toilets. Yeah. It's not looking good for you. Yeah. Wow, what a bummer. I was like, oh my gosh, when I saw the news and I was texting Ellie, I was like, so what about Michigan? And at the time you were like, I think we're just gonna make it work.

SPEAKER_00

And I was like, oh no, it is on fire. Well, because when we first looked it up, uh, they said that it was only Friday night and that then the storms were gonna come through Friday night, and that the rest of the weekend would then be clear. So we were like, okay, we'll just get there. We don't go to the beach anyways when we get there Friday night because we get there really late. Yeah. So we'll just do that and then we'll wake up and everything will be fine. But then after I had texted you, we were like looking up more, and they were like, no, it's gonna be fine Saturday, but then back to on Sunday and on, it's gonna be back to being like a second round of smoke was gonna come in. So we were like, I'm not risking it to have miserable kids that can't do anything.

SPEAKER_02

Or our Canadian neighbors.

SPEAKER_00

I think fine now. I think we got the smoke. I don't know what they got. With fires. Yes, the wildfires are down. Well, I don't know. You're like, fuck them, Canadians. Yeah, we don't smoke. My trip got wrecked. I'm sorry, Canada. I hope the ham is fine and the maple syrup. I don't know much about Canada, but so I don't know how they are, but I think that there's like you know how when California catches on fire here, it's very close to homes because people live up in that area. I don't know about Canada. There's so much land that's like not even habitable. Was this just like a random fire in like a where there's not any population? I mean, there's wildlife, so like no, but they probably just ran. Oh my god, that reminds me. Have you seen Jimothy the raccoon? No. Well, I just learned about him last night from our coworker. Oh. Gonna be weird. Yes. Okay. There is a raccoon. I was so busy with the Canada fires in my in my vacation that I didn't see this, but this went viral this weekend, or I think last week. There is this raccoon. He has a spinal deformity. I think it's called like short spine or whatever. And his name is Jimothy. And people, the people, especially of Seattle, because that's where he is, have taken him under their wing as their like honorary mascot of Seattle. They've made murals of him. He is a big deal, Jimothy. Let me see him. And he kind of looks fucked, but he's cute at the same time. Let me see. And they have videos of him as a baby, too. And it was extra cute because I guess they said raccoon moms will usually, and maybe most animals, will usually leave their offspring if they've got some kind of disability because it affects the rest of the litter. Like it can cause them to be in harm's way if they're like trying to. So they usually leave. And this and Jimothy's mom, who they named it's like Jim Bethy. What? I can't remember what her name is. But they she kept him. There's like videos of him when he's a baby, and she's carrying him around in her mouth. There's gonna be children's books about this. About Jimothy. Yeah. This is Jimothy. He kind of looks like something from a horror movie, but he's also like kind of cute. We'll get him. Oh. That's Jimothy.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know. We got him. I don't like it. No shade to Jimothy. That's not what I was picturing.

SPEAKER_00

Jimothy baby. I thought his arms were gonna be short too. No, it's his body, but look at him as a baby. Oh, I do like a baby. Yeah, poor Jimothy.

SPEAKER_01

I like the baby, Jimmy.

SPEAKER_00

He is they just love Jimothy. The world is loving Jimothy. Wow. Anyways. So, Ellie, what's new with you? Wow. What? Jazz hands. Should I get a drum roll? I'm pregnant. You guys, she's like due tomorrow. Ellie's pregnant. Ellie's pregnant. Yeah. I actually got pregnant back in like February. So it's been a it's been a minute. So, Ellie, yeah. How many weeks are you? I'm pulling it up to see. Third kid. That's the thing about the third kid. The first kid, you're like, I have 10 apps. All of them say I'm 14 weeks, three days, 27 seconds, two minutes, and whatever. Yeah. You have a third one, you're like, I didn't even remember I was pregnant until I felt the baby like punch me in the gut. And now I'm like, oh yeah, I forgot about that. I'm 23 weeks today.

SPEAKER_02

She's 23 weeks.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So one one week to viability, which is fun, but for the anxiety.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my God, that's such like nurse humor. Have you ever like said that to someone else? And they're like, What?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. No, it's good. Yeah. Is it a boy or a girl? We don't know. We're not finding out. We're so good. What's it called? Team Green. Wow. We have one of each. We have Julianne, who's six, and then Mila's three. So we were like, if we're gonna do it, first of all, this is our last baby, this is the only time to do it. But if I were to have like two boys or two girls, I think I'd have too much anxiety. I would need to know for sure. But since it's I have one of each, I and I'm a hoarder. That's the other thing. I keep everything. So I have everything. So I need like two passies and a burcloth, and I'm on my way. Yeah. So I have everything I need. I kept all their clothes, boy and girl. I'm set. So if I'm gonna do it, my if my anxiety is gonna let me do it, it's gonna be with this pregnancy. Yes. That I have one of each. So I'm not finding out the gender. I've already had a couple ultrasounds, and nobody has spoiled it for me thus far. Although my second ultrasound, the ultrasound tech did refer to the baby as a dude. So now I'm convinced it's a boy. But she could just be one of them. I know that. Yeah, we were. I was in my second ultrasound. Of course, you like read into everything though. Yeah. She was trying to get the baby to move, and she kept calling the baby like friend, like, come on, friend, move, friend. And she needed to see the baby's belly, I think. And she was only seeing the spine. So she was kind of shaking my belly with the wand, and she said, and then the baby moved. And she was like, Oh my gosh, it moved. Yay. And then it moved again. And she was like, dude, you need to stay in one spot. No, I think it's okay. Because if she was looking at their back, then she wouldn't have known anyway. Well, she what if she already saw it? She didn't. You don't think? I call people dude. I know. Noe was like, maybe she's just a duder. Yeah. You know, she's just a bro.

SPEAKER_01

She's a duder.

SPEAKER_00

She's a bro kind of girl. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

A duder's gotta do.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah. You know, one of those. Yeah, yeah. It's like someone who calls everyone babe. Yes. You know? Yeah, yeah. No, I I'm not sure. So I think, but I am still convinced. That and I had a dream. And you if you're your mom, you know, did you have dreams? Yeah. And were they right?

SPEAKER_02

It wasn't dreams about the baby. It was like weird dreams. Oh baby.

SPEAKER_00

You never had a dream that it was a boy or a girl. No. Oh my god, I did with both. But I found out both times. But before. You never had a dream and you were like, this is this is so real. No, but you know what?

SPEAKER_01

I had a dream. I just remembered this now that we're talking about this. When I was pregnant with Nora, I had a dream that she came out fully clothed.

SPEAKER_00

You're like, oh, someone did the job for me. Those booties are hard to get on. Onesie, everything. It was so weird. They were like, here's your Was she still like covered in vernix or was she like completely clean? Clean. So bizarre. Like, where do you pull that baby out of? But what did you have a dream about? When I was pregnant with Julian, I had a dream. I walked into the room and there was nothing in the room. It was just like four walls and carpet. And on a little, like, it almost looked like a boppy. Yeah. Some kind of like boppy type of like infant lounger. Laying there on a boppy was a little boy. And I just like walked into the room and picked him up. And I was like, this is my baby, and it's a boy. And then I woke up that next day and was like, I but then I was even, it was my first baby. So I was like, I don't know, Noah. I had this really weird dream. I was a boy, but I really still feel like it's a girl. And then it was a boy. And I was like, wow, that was weird. And then with Mila, I had a dream that it was a girl and she had like brown hair. It wasn't curly or anything. She, I'm not like psychic, I guess, but she had brown hair and it was just a little a little baby girl. She's probably like six months old. And I just had her and I was like, oh my God, that's a baby girl. And then with this pregnancy, I have been convinced it was a girl. I just felt like it was a girl. And then, like the beginning of my second trimester, I had a dream that I had a baby boy. And I didn't it I didn't like have the baby. I didn't see the baby. The baby was just there, like in my family with Noah and my kids. And then there was the baby, and it was a little boy. And we just were like calling him a name. And we were just like, I was just like, yeah, that's my baby, and it's a boy. And then I woke up and was like, that was weird. It just blended so well in the dream that I feel like. I thought it was a boy anyway. Everyone does. Yeah, that's my boy guy. And I don't feel like Mila, like if you go by wives' tales, Julian, I felt good, like glowy. I didn't feel super ugly, like in my pregnancy, but it's also like your first kid, and you just always feel better. Yeah. But with Mila, I swear they say, like, that girls take your beauty, and she really did. I got hormonal acne so bad, like all over my face, all over my neck. My skin was so dry. I just felt like so like not me. Gross. And I feel like this pregnancy, I don't feel like that. I haven't gotten any acne. I don't feel any kind of symptoms like I felt with Mila, really. What are you craving? Hmm. More salty. I don't know what that means. Boy. Really? Yeah. Because I'm usually a sweets girly, but at the end of the day, I'm really like, I wish I could have McDonald's every single day. I think it's a boy.

SPEAKER_01

I think it's a boy too. Yeah. Yeah. I think it's a little boy, and he's gonna be ornary.

SPEAKER_00

Which I kind of am excited for because I'm an emo girl. I'm a sensitive girly. And girls, teenage girls, I know they're mean. I mean, I'm not a mom of a teenage girl. I've never had a teenage daughter, but I think one's enough.

SPEAKER_01

I am a mom of a teenage girl.

SPEAKER_00

She just happens to be six. She is small for her age, but the first trimester, I didn't have nausea, but I never really do. I only had a little bit of nausea here and there. And it was mostly if I didn't eat. Yes. Then I would feel sick. Because I know they say girls give you more nausea, but I wasn't really, I was only nauseous if I wasn't eating. If my stomach was empty, I was sick. Yeah. And the only times I really puked is when I would like wake up and not eat right away. And then I was like, oh, I fucked up bad. Yeah. And then I would puke. But I thought it was twins because of how freaking hungry I was. I do remember this. I was like, guys, if someone sits me down and says you're having twins, I will not be shocked. I am starving. That has settled. Can you imagine? No, you want like one more and you end up with two. Yeah. No, I was starving. But my second trimester, I've settled down. I feel normal, but I'm not hungry now. Okay. Just like a little more than usual, a little more cravy of stuff, but I get full now. Yeah. Did you do the Chinese thing? Oh, here's the other thing. What? Are you talking about the Chinese calendar? Yeah. Okay, they say that's like the most accurate predictor of gender is this Chinese calendar. Look it up. Mine was right with Julian and Mila. And this one says girl. Boy. Oh, it's. Oh, then it's for sure. It says a boy. Yeah. My sister did it and hers were right. And I know somebody else who did it and theirs were right. I do know somebody who was like, mine was wrong. But that's like, you know, I'm just not chalking that up to anything. No, that's the one off.

SPEAKER_02

She probably did it wrong. Yeah. Um, so when you announce it, the gender, are you gonna say, are you gonna do the video?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, where you like hover. I love those. I don't know, should I? Yes. You should do it. I told the kids that they could come visit me in the hospital. And I said, but you have to guess if it's a boy baby or a girl baby. I'm mommy's not gonna tell you right away. You have to tell me what you think. And they said, Julian said, I already know. Because if it's pink, it's a girl, and if it's blue, it's a boy. I said, I'm putting it in white, motherfucker. Yeah, no, they are excited to find out too. They both want a boy. Mila wants a boy because Julian wants a boy. Julian wants a boy because he says there's too many girls in the family, which there are. I really don't care. I see the pros and cons of both. I'm not one of those that's like, I just want it to be healthy. Obviously, we all want it to be fucking healthy. I'm just saying, I am a sister, so I really want Mila to have a sister. Actually, we watched this super sad Netflix. Have you seen it? It's called Voicemails for Isabel. No, why would you watch? Now, don't watch it. Why would you? I didn't know. Noe and I, we were trying to find a movie one night and we said, okay, what should we watch? We had two options. We had voicemails for Isabel, which is under the rom-com section of Netflix. Oh dear. That someone said was good. Did they say it was sad? No. They said it's good. And then we had this other show. It's like a limited series. So we start this show, and Noe's like, we watched the trailer. We didn't start the show. We watched the trailer and it kind of involved like a potential dead kid. And Noe goes, I've been so emo lately, which we'll get to. But Noah was like, I think that's too emotional for you. We should. So let's watch this really depressing movie. So he goes, Let's watch the rom com because it was under rom com. We didn't watch the trailer or anything. We just had heard it was good. So this one we were just like, okay, whatever, let's just watch this. It's like a love story. In the first 10 minutes, like one of the sisters dies. That's not giving it away because I think it's in the trailer if we would have watched the fucking trailer. But she dies. And so then I'm sobbing. Noe's like, what's wrong? I'm like, I want Mila to have a sister. And I think this is a boy.

unknown

I'm like crying.

SPEAKER_00

Just because I am a sister. I have a sister. My sister and I are close. And I say this, and Noah's always like, that doesn't make any sense. But I'm like, a sister needs a sister more than a brother needs a brother. And he's like, that makes no sense. You don't know. You're not a boy with a brother. But I just feel like there's something magical about sisterhood. So I'd love for Mila to have a sister. But then I think about having a little boy and Julian having a brother. And Noah doesn't have a lot of guys in his family. Like he's the only boy of three sisters, and he has a single mom. We just don't have a lot of boys in the family. So it'd be nice to have another little boy to play soccer with him. And Noah's such a good dad and such a good guy that I think he leads such a great example for little boys on how to be like a good man that like having another boy would be like so fun. And I love Julian as a little baby. And I remember being so scared when he was a boy, and I was like, I don't know what I'm supposed to do with this kid. And now I'm like, let's play monster trucks, and it's just so fun, and they're just so fun. Both of them are so fun. Yeah. That I really am like either would be, I really don't care. Yeah. I'm gonna cry either way.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, of course. I'm so happy. Yeah. Caleb's in his roaring era, and Nora never roared. I love it. It's hysterical. It's so funny to watch. Like he truly feels in his head he is terrifying. Like he comes up, and the best part is when he sneaks up on Nora and her little friends when they're over for a play date. And roars. And they see him. But in his mind, they didn't see nothing.

SPEAKER_00

Do they pretend for him? Are they like, oh my god, you're so scary. No, they're like, hi Caleb.

SPEAKER_02

Like they're like, and he's like, like, seriously thinks he's ferocious.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Is he into dinosaurs or is this just like a random thing? No, okay, okay. We're into the dinos.

SPEAKER_02

Mama, what's your favorite dinosaur? I like trust outs. Yeah. And then yeah. Oh, yeah, we're in dinosaurs. So yeah, both are fun.

SPEAKER_00

Both are so fun for different reasons. The one time I got lucky, the very few times I've gotten lucky in my life, is to have one of each. So I get to experience both.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm due November. That was a turkey. I've never had a summer pregnancy and a fall baby because Julian was born in the summer. Amila was born in the late spring. So I've always been pregnant during the winter. This is my first pregnant during the whole summer. She's hot. Okay. You're hot. I just told Noah yesterday, I think. I'm done with summer. It's not done. I'm done.

SPEAKER_02

Well, it is kind of it's nice out.

SPEAKER_00

Tonight tonight. Yeah, they have it's like a false fall. You're like, it doesn't matter. Yeah, I'm done with it. I wore leggings yesterday. I said, I'm tired of my thighs, rubbing together, and it hurts, and I don't want to do it. I'm tired of sweating.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I'm tired of having my neck fan out there in the hundred degree heat standing there, holding my belly like Santa Claus. Not a neck fan. Yeah, I got a neck fan. My friend got me one.

SPEAKER_01

Honestly, don't you?

SPEAKER_00

She said, She said, I'm sending you a neck fan to your house. You are hot. That was really nice. That was very nice of her. Yeah. And I use that bitch. Yeah. I do. I'd be neck fan and it's it's worth every penny of whatever she paid, but I'm tired of it. I don't care what the now that we've had our like Indiana Beach trip and our Michigan, Ohio trip, and we've done the pool and we've done the everything. I'm done with summer. Okay. Yeah, we're done. We're done with it. I hate it. I'm so swollen. Like I'm just swollen. I told my midwife, I just feel like I'm gaining swelling. I'm not even gaining like weight. I'm just gaining like fluid everywhere. And she was like, it's a summer pregnancy. That's what happens. Ugh. Ugh. What?

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely miserable.

SPEAKER_00

Gross.

SPEAKER_02

This is disgusting. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I hate it.

SPEAKER_02

I'm so sorry.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so I'm done with that. But I'm due in November, like the week before Thanksgiving. When I had Julian, I was obviously it was my first baby. It was nice to just be able to recover at home. We binge-watched Gilmore Girls together. We took naps. Like it was nice to just be peaceful and like chill. And then I had Mila, and obviously I had a three-year-old in the house. And no, we had to go back to work. And I'm like trying to like recover my cooch and breastfeed. And I have a three-year-old and it's the middle of summer. Who and he wants to like be outside and Mila can't even wear sunscreen because she's like two days old. It was a lot. It's a lot when you bring that second baby home. But this baby's born in the fall. Julian will be starting um kindergarten in a couple weeks. Yeah. And Mila is starting preschool three days a week. Yeah. So for three days a week of my maternity leave, they will both be in school. Yeah. It will just be me at home. So good. I can rest, we can binge watch TV shows, we can take naps, we can do all the things, and I can feel more like I can take a breath. Yeah. And another unpopular opinion I have, most people, and I think it's people who haven't had a baby in the summer or like late spring, like I have. It's mostly like people who have had winter babies. Maybe you can relate, or maybe we've talked about it before, but when you have a baby in the summer, everyone's always like, I had a baby in the winter and it was miserable because we were like stuck inside the house. And I want to have a baby in the summer. I feel completely opposite. I've had two summer babies basically now, and it's miserable because everyone's outside. Everyone's in the pool. You can't get in the pool for six weeks. Everyone's outside in the hot sun. I can't even take the baby out because it can't wear sunscreen. We've got and it'll get hot. Like it can't even sweat yet. So we've got to like be shaded. My kids want to go outside. I can't really do that because I can't take the baby with me. And it's just like you can't really do a lot. And you're just kind of stuck inside when everybody's outside enjoying the weather and like being together and having fun. Versus, I'm excited to have this baby in the winter because everyone's miserable and depressed. So I'll just blend right in. Yeah. And nobody's doing anything. Yeah. Everyone's inside their house. Yeah. And they'll be like six months old in a fun age for summer. Once the summer comes, they'll be able to wear sunscreen and go outside and it will be and I'll feel better. Like I won't be like recovering from a delivery. I'll have felt more like myself again. Yeah. Right in time for summer. I'm excited for that. Yes. You're already in second sight, anyways, whether you have a baby or not. No, you're right. I'm excited to just chill inside. And I don't feel the pressure to like get out right away and like take the kids to the park and be outside when I'm like hurting. I feel less pressure to do that because now we're all inside. Yeah. There is the downside of germs, obviously. You have to worry about like RSV, but I'm excited to have a winter baby.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And I don't think a lot of people feel like that. I'm thinking positive about this situation. Great point. Yeah. And I love the age gap. Six, three, zero. Chef's kiss. Chef's kiss. I would recommend a three-year age gap or more. Me too. A hundred times over. Yes. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Nobody asked, but that's my opinion. So what's your labor plan? Are we going a natural?

SPEAKER_00

And I want you to. Oh, you want me to? Because you kind of did with me. I know. I think that I'll see where I go. Because if you remember with Mila, I said this a few episodes back, but I didn't have an epidural until five minutes before I delivered her. And so I was basically like barely numb. And there was something so empowering about just laboring for a while without having anything. I think I'm 50-50. I think I'll try to hold off more like I did with Mila, but Mila's wasn't on purpose, but then purposefully. But then I'll still probably, I don't want to feel the tear. I like that about the epidural.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe you'll tear. It's your third kid.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's like a slip and slide down there now. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. No, I think you should do it. I'll try my best. Okay. We'll see where I go. But I do, I'm not gonna say no to an epidural.

SPEAKER_01

And here's something fun.

SPEAKER_00

I want them to put that in the clinical network.

SPEAKER_01

I could be Ellie's postpartum nurse.

SPEAKER_00

I know. Actually, I do want you because you'd be so easy. Yeah. She'd have no questions or anything. No. That would be an easy assignment. For sure. For sure. Yeah, I'm delivering where I work. Yeah. So that's fun. I've never done that before.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And some people are like, me want to see your coworker, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And I'm like, third kid, babe. Yeah. I'd pull my pants down for you right now if you asked. No, literally, no one cares. No, no.

SPEAKER_02

I actually was just talking to someone about this because they are a photographer and she does, it's a good friend of mine, and she does a lot of photography, but she also does boudoir. And I said, you know, I think that if I if if I had any chance of doing a boudoir shoot, it would have been when I was freshly postpartum, because that's when you don't give a shit.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I've already seen it. And my diaper just like, my nursing bra, your boobs leaking.

SPEAKER_02

But she said the same thing that we did. She was like, you know, everybody's worried at first about it, but then she's like, once you realize the photographer does not care and that this is just their job, I said it's just like postpartum. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And like labor and getting a wax or no. Spray tan. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Nobody's thinking of it in that way. Yeah. But once you realize I mean, I'm third kitten and I'm work there. I know that nobody's thinking of that. Nobody's like, damn, I can't wait to see Ellie's vagina. Yeah. So I'm excited for that. Which brings me to my next thing. I'm not breastfeeding this time. That will be a new change.

SPEAKER_01

You're not. You're like, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yes. I didn't know that either. I learned so much. Thus the breast act. Thus. Yes. I actually got last week, because our podcast episode, splurging versus saving, it inspired me on a couple things actually for the baby. One of them being, are you a snoozer? No. Only because I can't afford the snoo. So I can't splurge on it. If I had the extra funds, then yeah, I would definitely probably splurge. No, one of them being a lot of people, I don't know if it got cut if we ended up saying it, but a few people said the baby curic or the baby, is it called baby brezza, right? Yeah. Yeah. The baby brezza, which is like a curic. It prepares your bottle at like whatever temperature and it like makes the formula perfect. And a lot of people said that was worth it. And so I got on Facebook Marketplace and I found one like brand new, still in the box, for 50 bucks.

SPEAKER_02

So what led you to this decision?

SPEAKER_00

Well, let me tell you.

SPEAKER_02

Interviewer, all I'm hearing is that you're gonna feed the baby.

SPEAKER_00

So thank you. Yeah. And I don't know if anybody will understand this, but there's a thing that babies can develop where when mom and dad's blood type kind of don't mesh well. This is very lame layman's terms. I'm a nurse, I'm not a doctor. It's called direct coombs. And if your baby's direct coom's positive, which can lead to jaundice. Everybody probably knows the word jaundice, where your baby has to go under the lights and they're yellow and it was all yellow. Wait, was Mila?

SPEAKER_01

Mila, Coombs positive?

SPEAKER_00

Yes. So both of my babies were Coombs positive and both of them were under Billy Lights. And Mila was actually in the NICU, ended up having to transfer over to the NICU for Billy Lights. Her bilirubin level had gotten so high. So I had sleepy babies who had jaundice who didn't want to breastfeed. Their bilirubin levels were rising. And people can do it and make it through that. And it's definitely, you definitely don't hear your baby's cum is positive and immediately have to stop breastfeeding, which I didn't, but it just gave me a lot of anxiety doing it. Yeah. And I'm trying to not, it caused a lot of like, I think it was a big part of my postpartum depression and anxiety was breastfeeding. Yeah. Honestly. And they just kind of sucked at it, both of them. So I don't want to do that again. I've realized that it's my third time around. I'm trying to do things to lessen the event of having postpartum depression this time. And that was a really big trigger. So I'm trying to avoid that.

SPEAKER_02

Well, good for you for knowing, like identifying that and saying this, this is not, it's not gonna work.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah. I'm realizing my triggers. Yeah. I'm trying to avoid them. So my dad already died. Can't do that again during postpartum. That was trigger. That was trigger number one for my postpartum depression with Mila. But that can't happen again. So moving on. That's good. Number two, breastfeeding. Can't happen again. Yeah. Only get one. So number two, breastfeeding. I'm not gonna do it. I've decided I've got my baby Keurig. And also Noe can now help me bottle feed in the night. And I'm very excited about that. Yes, we are set up for success. I am setting myself up for success. Yes, I love that.

SPEAKER_02

How has they how have things gone for the pregnancy? Like, has there been any bumps in the road?

SPEAKER_00

Well in my first trimester, I got what's called fifths disease. And you probably don't know what that is because I didn't know what that was, because it's like rare. And so I got it naturally because I would get that. I was like nine weeks pregnant, and my niece got fifth disease, which is such a random thing. They call it slap cheek disease, is another term for it, or parovirus, I think is the other name for it. In kids, it just causes like stuffing up parvo. No, that's dog. Oh, yeah. It's paro. Paro, paro. Paro virus. I know because I kept telling people I had that, and they were like, like the dog thing. I was like, I guess. Yeah. But it's parovirus. Yeah. Or slap cheek or fist disease. Little kids get it and you they just get like common cold symptoms, and then they get a rash, and that's then it's not contagious anymore. So my niece had gotten it, and her pediatrician was like, you need to reach out to your OB because that can cause complications if you get it. So I reached out to my OB. We got me tested. Of course, I tested positive. And then I developed symptoms. Symptoms in adults is mostly joint pain. So I had been having joint pain in my hands and my hands had been swollen, but I thought it was just kind of carpal tunnel type of vibe. But no, it was fist disease. And the and it lasted for like two months, I think, of having joint pain in my hands, and then it went away. But it's really not a big deal for kids or adults not pregnant. It doesn't really do much besides, like I said, common cold symptoms, some joint pain. And once you get it once, you'll never get it again. It's kind of like chicken pox in that way. But as you know, there are some things that can cross through that barrier and go to baby. Like if you get the flu, baby's not gonna get the flu. Well, with fifths disease, you get fifths disease, it can cross through and the baby can get it. And that can cause like uh anemia, which is low blood volume in the baby. It can cause a lot of things like that, a miscarriage, things like that. So I had to get some extra ultrasounds to make sure the baby didn't develop it, because if it would have, then I would have had to get a baby blood transfusion. Don't ask me how they do that. I don't know. Fortunately, you didn't have to find out. Fortunately, I didn't have to find out. My baby never got it. Just me and my niece. And it was really scary for a little bit, which is why I waited a while to announce my pregnancy because I was like, I don't, I'd hate to announce it, and then something happened with this or just anything. So I waited. But I'm all clear. I've officially made it to the clear. Once I was 21 weeks pregnant, I was cleared from any kind of damage or whisk. So I'm good to go now.

SPEAKER_02

It was scary.

SPEAKER_00

But it was scary. I mean, from nine weeks to 21, I had to worry about complications from this fist disease. Yeah. That's a long time. That's your like whole first half of your pregnancy, is just waiting to see if your baby was gonna have fist disease. I mean, it was scary, but I'm all good. I'm clear. Yay! Ellie's gonna have a third baby. I did get prescribed an additional medication for anxiety because I have been extra emotional lately. Yeah. And I did. Yeah. So my midwife, I'm going with midwife, which is what I did with Julianne. I love my midwife that I saw this last time. I was like, I don't know why I cry, but I just won't cry anything. I'm crying now. I can't even tell you why I'm crying. And she handed me a box of tissues and said, let's start on an additional medication because we don't want this to get worse. So she was very proactive and I loved that about her. Yes. And so I started an additional medication on top of my other one. I've been feeling way less emo lately. Good. Really have could not tell you the last time I cried. I was just feeling everything extra hard. So I'm glad to be off that. I'm glad to be through the fist disease. We got our pictures. My wonderful sister-in-law took some fabulous pictures of us. Yes. That I was able to post on social media. Those turned out so good. We were supposed to take beach maternity pictures, and of course, Canada was on fire. So we ended up going to a grassy field because that's all Indiana has been. They were lovely. Um, Mila asked when we went to take the photos. We were like leaving to take them, and she goes, Well, what are we gonna do if the baby won't smile? Oh my god. I said, The baby's not gonna smile. It's in mommy's belly, so we're not gonna see it right now. We're just taking pictures with the belly. Now we can talk about it on the pod. Yeah. Yay! But there's been so many podcast episodes where we've mentioned it, and Emily's had to be like, damn it, we gotta cut that now. Yeah. Because I forget. Yeah. And I didn't tell a lot of people, even in my real life, because of the fist disease and stuff, I just kind of forgot to tell people. I feel like I'm at the point now where it's like kind of obvious. You know, you never want to ask a woman if she's pregnant. No, not unless she's crowning. You literally. Yeah. But I kind of feel like I'm there now to where it's like, well, you saw me last month and I didn't look like this. So I it kind of seems like maybe I'm pregnant. You could probably say it. But I'll still have people that will come up to me and be like, looking at my belly, look at me, and then they'll be like, Are you having a baby? And you're like, You should say you saw me last month. Yeah, I know.

SPEAKER_02

You should say no. Why would you say that? Yeah. Wow, rude. Um, I guess I'm getting a new shirt. Like, now I'm not pregnant.

SPEAKER_00

No, you almost feel like you almost feel kind of offended. Like, you literally saw me last month, and I didn't look like this. That happens to me in four weeks.

SPEAKER_02

Buried pregnant with Caleb, and somebody said something about me having a baby, and this girl was like, Oh, you're pregnant. I was like, I am honestly offended. Yeah. I was like 36 weeks pregnant. I was very pregnant.

SPEAKER_00

She was like, Oh, I guess now that you mention it, I'm like, the fuck? Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I'm like, I get it. There's a fine line. You don't want to ask too early, and they're not. But then also you're now you're asking me a little too late. Yeah, a little too. Now I'm like, come on. This is the basketball in my mouth. Did I look like this the last time you saw me? Yeah. No.

SPEAKER_02

So rude.

SPEAKER_00

You can't win. You can't win, honestly. But yeah, I'm so excited. We have a boy name picked out. We don't have a girl name picked out. Girl names are hard for me. I had one girl name I liked, and that was Mila. Well, it doesn't Mila Jade.

SPEAKER_02

It's a boy.

SPEAKER_00

And so we're hoping it's a boy because it's gonna be game day decision. If not, we had a baby, it's a boy.

SPEAKER_02

Remember that commercial?

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

It was like for when you had to call collect. Uh-huh. And they were like, and who's the phone call coming from? And he was like, We had a baby, it's a boy. So then they called and they're like, hey, uh, they said, You're getting a collect call from We Had a Baby, It's a Boy. Would you like to accept? And he goes, No. Honey gets off the phone and he goes, Hey, honey, they had a baby, it's a boy. Wow. He's like, I don't want to pay.

SPEAKER_00

We done. Oh, that's because they didn't have to pay. Yeah. I got it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The youngins won't get that. I got it. Somebody the other day sent me something that was like, Can you believe we really just had a phone book of everybody's like name, full name, phone number? Wasn't the address in there too? Oh, yeah. And you could just buy this book and it just had everybody's full information for you. Yeah, but you can get it online now. You can't get everybody's like full name and address.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, girl. I'm gonna Google my name now and see if it pops up.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Well, yay. Yay. So what's our next episode? Next week is advice, which we missed last month because of our vacation. So this should hopefully be a good one. Yeah. Full of some good advice. I'm fresh for my advice game. I'm ready to give the best advice I can give ever. I can't wait to hear what you guys are. Certified in advice giving.

SPEAKER_02

Yay! Okay, well, we'll do that next time. Okay, have a good weekend. See you in a minute.
