Hello everyone, welcome to Shadow of the Game. My name's Steven. And I'm Andrew. And today we're gonna be playing D 5A. Yebaday. So if you want to pick up this or you know, the three main books you need, I'll put a link down in the description just in case you want to try it out yourself. So this is usually where I do a quick rules rundown, but I mean it's D5e, I'm not gonna explain the whole game. But essentially, you know, it's a TTRPG, so tabletop role-playing game, and Andrew's gonna be the player, he's going to be rolling dice to complete checks, to attack, to do stuff, try to make it through the adventure, and survive. And unfortunately for all of you, I'm going to be the DM. So I'm going to be controlling the whole game. Which, you know, shouldn't have any problems, and it's probably going to be good. Um, today we are playing a adventure called The Silver Tower. I meant to look up who wrote it, but I didn't, so I forget. Um I'll put it up on the screen now if you're interested, and I'll put it in the description if you want to look up the adventure yourself. But it's basically an adventure written for beginning DMs and beginning players. It's nice and simple, it's nice and laid out, so that people can get introduced to the game. Um, so that's perfect for us because Andrew has never played Durnder before. And I have DM'd a grand total of once. So we need a beginning adventure. But yeah, I've the one other time I ran a game was probably like two years ago when I ran this adventure to play with my siblings, so should be good. That's basically all you need to know. Andrew's playing a level five barbarian named Bjorn. Half orc barbarian. Half orc barbarian named Bjorn. And this adventure is written for, I think, three to five adventurers from level two to four. And Andrew's a single adventurer at level five. I've tried to make sure it's scaled so that it's appropriate for one level five player, but like I said, I haven't DM'd that many times, so could be wrong. We'll see how it goes. I'm sure it'll go fine.
SPEAKER_02So yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh, without further ado, we can just jump in to the game. So, this is where we're starting. You know, you're you're Bjorn an adventurer. And this is your game hook. Legends are told of the staff of Senilus Silvertongue, which can be used, can be used to command dragons and bend them to the will of the wielder. Such a relic could grant wealth and power beyond measure to whoever whoever holds it. Whomever? Whomever. It said whomever, I said whoever. Okay. Amazing. Uh, you've been hired by the um watchful order of the magisters and protectors who haven't recently discovered the location of the staff. The ruins of an ancient wizard tower in the heart of the Neverwinter Woods. Neverwinter? Yes. Is there an always winter? No. Um they are willing to pay a sum of 200 gold pieces for the safe recovery of the staff, and are willing to allow you to keep anything else you discover on your quest. That's your hook. This is the reason you're going to the tower. I'm hooked. You're hooked. You're in. I gotcha. Imagine we're in a movie, the adventure comes in, that was the rolling credits, that was your Star Wars scroll. And so we come in, and you are on the road to the tower. Um, it'll be good to get back to civilization after spending the last ten day hiking all across the northern sword coast. You're sore, you're tired, and you're desperately in need of a good bath and something to eat other than travel rations. Need a good bath. Yeah, man. You've been you've been out adventuring. Um you can hardly wait to hightail it back to Neverwinter for some meat, some mead, and a relaxing evening in the red light district. Let's make some mead. Did this say red light district? No. I'm just saying that before because you said that'd be amazing. Um in a relaxing evening surrounded by music and conversation. But first you have to find the staff. And to find the staff, you have to find the tower. Um, the woods around you are now ancient, and ha it has been days since uh you've seen the barest hint of another person. What about the RO US? Don't even mention those people. Don't bring that evil on you. Rodents of unusual size? Um at long last you catch uh the glint of something bright shining through the trees. Snapping out of your days you've fallen into while hiking. You look closer and see the path ahead of you opens into a clearing. The clearing rising into a low hill covered in lush green grass and wildflowers, bright enough to clearly be seen through the gaps in the trees. Atop the hill you see the ruins of the silver tower. Shining bright in the red-orange glow of the setting sun, the sun is setting behind you, and the light reflects back, almost painfully bright, off the smooth, mirror-like surface of the tower ruins. So you are on your way to the tower. What would you like to do? Would you like just to continue to the tower?
SPEAKER_00Attack with my war hammer! Attack what?
SPEAKER_01The tower.
SPEAKER_00You're not even at the tower yet.
SPEAKER_02Well, yeah, I'm gonna continue down the clearing. Towards the scary ruined silver tower. Scary? Why is this scary? And it's in ruins, so it has to be scary, right? It's just old. Something's gonna be there.
SPEAKER_01It's just old. Okay, so you're making your way down the pathway. Um, it's about five feet wide. The trees on each side are really thick and tall, like they're all about like 50 feet high. Um, as you make your way to the tower. And as you make it into this clearing, it's like this immaculate clearing. The reason it's like this, the reason it looks so nice is because it's close to the Fey Realm, which for all you don't know, is kind of like this parallel realm to the material realm that's like where Fey Elves live, and like think like pastel colors and like that. And so it's like this immaculate clearing with lush grass, and the trees around are ancient, tall, have nice bark, shaggy bark, and there's not much underbrush. But you come into this clearing, um, the tower is like in shambles. It's only about looks like one story high at this point. Most of the walls are around uh like 20 feet high in the highest sections. Like if you're looking off to like the left side and around the right side, they're about 15 feet high, but they're all still intact. It's like you if you make a loop around the tower, there's no big openings, but the tower is in ruins, and so it only goes about probably you'd think one story, and then it's just jagged edges. And yeah, like the east side of the tower is the worst, it's only about 10 feet high, and none of the upper floors are intact. Um, but from the look of it, the ground floor of the tower is open to the sky. Like, there's no other floors, it's just that. And as you look at the tower, it does have like this weird, like as if like it has like a mirror-like finish that's like reflective. It's like polished silver. Yeah, it almost it almost looks like polished silver. But yeah, the jagged ruins of the tower reach towards the sky like the clawed hand of a dying man. You spot broken pieces of tower wall scattered around the base of the ruins, and the broken pieces shine with the same mirror-like finish. The path ahead leads directly to the stone door of the tower, which is intact in the entrance archway. The doorway is covered in an intricate carving of leaves and roses. And so you are now in this clearing with this tower. What would you like to do? Try and find an entrance. Um could you make me an investigation check? And so that'll be on your second page. Did you alphabetical order? So it's always a d20? Yep. So all these were with d20, and then add that number to it.
SPEAKER_02I'm so good at rolling, everybody knows that. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01You're not good.
SPEAKER_02Watch this though.
SPEAKER_01Watch this down.
SPEAKER_02What is that? 12. 12 plus 1 is 13.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So as you're making your way around the tower, you know, checking all the nooks and crannies, seeing if you can find a way in. You basically found like exactly what I've said. Like, some of the walls of the tower are only like 10 feet high, some of them are up to 20, but there's no like gaps, cracks that you can sneak through. And then you also have this d stone doorway. And so there's no obvious way in the tower besides the doorway. Or I'm gonna climb. Oh, so you wanna climb over the walls? I'm gonna attempt to climb. Where I'm very acrobatic. Okay. So where would you like to attempt to climb? So if we're looking at the map, this is your stone doorway. Off to the east side is where the walls are about 10 feet high, and then over to this side is where they're open to like 20.
SPEAKER_02Well, I'm I'm going to give myself the best chance. So go to the side where they are the shortest.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So you wanna Is there any like specific area you wanna start climbing over? So like cause consider like this entire side to be about 10 feet. Alright. There. We'll put you little we'll put your little guy right there to show that you're climbing in.
SPEAKER_02Or can I just use my war hammer to break down the stone door? You could do that. Well, let's try this first. I'm pretty acrobatic.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So I'm gonna need you to make me an athletics check. No, it's always D20. Always D20. All the main checks and all the attacks, d20.
SPEAKER_00Come in.
SPEAKER_02You said acrobatics? Athletics. Even better.
SPEAKER_01I know you're amazing.
SPEAKER_02Crap!
SPEAKER_01What is it? Two.
SPEAKER_02Plus seven. Nine.
SPEAKER_01So, um, you're trying to climb up this tower. You're just not like the mirror, like as you go up and you like touch the side of the tower, like, it almost kind of like looks oily, and when you touch it, it kind of feels that way. But even when you pull your fingers away, there's not like residue on your fingers or anything. And you're just not finding magic slime. Like, you don't even get like as athletic as you are, you're not finding any good handholds, any good footholds. You cannot, you're like, you can't make it anywhere near, like you can't even make it up this tower. You're looking at it and you're like, I can't climb this.
SPEAKER_02It's been a long journey, so I'm tired.
SPEAKER_01You know what? I didn't get my my time in the red light district. You just said I was tired and I needed a bath. Yeah, you're smelly, you're smelly. You're just a barbarian that's been traveling for a week and you're like, oh god.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Now we gotta walk back to the stone door.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so you come up and there's this stone door. This stone door. It's like this really intricately carved with like leaves, and like it's like, oh, some craftsman worked really hard on making it.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna destroy it! So we're gonna my war hammer.
SPEAKER_01We are gonna destroy this door. Is that what we're doing? Is there a lock? Could I try and pick a lock? So you wanna try and open it? Well, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna try to open it before I smash it. Maybe a barbarian.
SPEAKER_01So far. You've been like, there's a door. I'm gonna try to climb the wall.
SPEAKER_02I'm just climbing acrobatic.
SPEAKER_01I know, but you didn't even try to open the door. Man, barbarian brain. Straight barbarian brain, you're like, I'm like, there's a door waiting for you. It's a trap. I'm gonna try and climb the wall.
SPEAKER_00The door is like trap, can't climb this next door.
SPEAKER_02Let's try and open it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So you reach for the door, you grab the handle.
SPEAKER_02Break it off because I'm so strong.
SPEAKER_01No.
unknownCome on.
SPEAKER_01But it is locked. But there is a keyhole, so. But I don't think you have thieves just so you know, don't think you have thieves tools, because you're a barbarian. I know. So probably can't pick it.
SPEAKER_00Fine.
SPEAKER_02What else do I have? I have a hand axe, javelin. Just use it as target practice. My javelin. I'm just gonna take some target practice as this intricately carved stone door. Alright, we're gonna use the war hammer. We're gonna we're gonna smash it.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Attempt.
SPEAKER_01So I want you to make me an athletics check.
SPEAKER_02Let's try this again.
SPEAKER_00Hopefully you roll better this time. Let's try this again.
SPEAKER_01Six. Altogether? No. So that's an eleven? No, six plus seven. Is not an eleven. It's so yeah, you're looking at this door, you're like, man, I've smashed boulders this big before. It's just a stone door. And you know, spit in both hands, get your war hammer ready, and you smash it, and like maybe like a chip this big comes out.
SPEAKER_02Smash it again.
SPEAKER_01I'll let you smash it again. Slow and steady wins the race. Go ahead. Come on. 18. Altogether? Yes. So yeah, that first time you're like, I wasn't trying. Nothing, nothing, nothing big. And this next time. You get like a running start. And you smash this Warhammer like right where that lock would be. Yeah. And definitely you're you're expecting this thing to fly off the hinges. Definitely doesn't do that. And it like cracks, and the door just kind of goes and like barely opens. But it is open. Now I can push it. Do you want to push the door open? Yeah. So you push the door open. And as you're looking in. Do you want to step inside yet or do you want to look first? Okay. So you push this door open and kind of peer in. And like you kind of surmise from the outside, um, lights just coming in. Like there's no second floor, it's all open to the sky. And in front of you is like this stone hallway that's about 10 feet wide. Um, it has kind of like it almost looks like this white kind of like web substance covering the floor. And if you're looking down the hallway, like down and to the left, about like 30 feet, looks like there's a room to the left. Down to the right, it looks like there's a bigger, it almost looks like a staircase down. And then right immediately to your like left and right, just inside the door, it looks like there's two rooms. And that's kind of all you can see from the entrance way.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01Well, we're just gonna clear this one room at a time. Okay. So you're stepping in. Stepping in. Going into the left room. Well, as soon as you step in. My Warhammer cocking ready. So as soon as you like step in to the room, you kind of step on this um floor that's kind of covered in webs. And it's almost like a little hard to walk across. Like as you walk, you're like you're kind of having to like pick up your steps a little more. And it's like difficult to make your way through. You know, you make it about one, two steps, and you know, it's pretty quiet in this woods and even in the tower, and you kind of hear like like little legs start to skitter. And so, I would like you to roll initiative. First combat of the game. How are we feeling?
SPEAKER_02Twelve. My initiative is plus two. Fourteen. Fourteen.
SPEAKER_01Gonna roll for the enemies that you definitely don't see yet. Well, as you're about to go in this room right here, you do see, like it's a spider. I mean, it's a big spider, but it would be a massive spider um for our world. But you've seen spiders like this. You're like, I've stepped on those before. They're probably like, you know, about this big. They're big, but step on them.
SPEAKER_02Don't step on them yet. Okay.
SPEAKER_01But you're like, oh, these guys are gonna be easy. It's fine. But I will roll for these guys. Wow. That's a big number. And then these guys will go. Well, you know, don't worry about it. The enemies definitely aren't going before you. It's fine. So you've stepped into this into this castle, you've stepped on these webs, you immediately hear like spiders off in the distance. And basically, as you're turning and hearing these spiders, you look and you see like this spider that's, you know, about yay big. Um, you're like, oh crap, fight's happening. And then you see a big spider, probably like this big, comes tearing around the corner from this room up here. So let's see. So this is a giant spider, and he's going first. He's got a speed of 30. Just so you know, each of these squares represents five feet. You have a running speed of 40, which means you can move eight squares. But since you're in this webbed area, which is considered difficult terrain, you can only move half that. So your speed is 20. So you can move five squares. Five squares? Four squares.
SPEAKER_02I mean it would make four square.
SPEAKER_01It makes sense that a spider can run on web faster than they got they have a special thing called web walking. Um, but he has a speed of 30. And so, let's see, one, two, three, four, five, six. That's thirty feet. He's up in your face. So you just see like this like big spider, like probably around like this big, just tear out of this room. You're in its house, it's mad at you. It runs up to you, and it is going to attack you with a bite. So that is an 18 plus five, that's 23. What? So it hits you, because I'm pretty sure your armor class is 14. And so it does damage, it does 1d8 plus 3. Jeez. That is 11 damage. Wow, that thing hits hard. Not great. So that is the big spider's turn, but then the other spiders also rolled really well. And so they're both gonna come get ya. And so they have a speed of 20, but 5'10, 10. You're surrounded by spiders. Oh man. I mean, it seems bad, but they're gonna be sorry when it's your turn, because you're a barbarian. They're also gonna bite you. So this one on the right's gonna try and bite you. That is a 14 plus four, so that's 18. And the one on the left's gonna try and bite you, or your right. That's an i get it. That's the natural one. So he does definitely doesn't hit you. Um, but the one on your left is gonna hit you with a bite, which is one d1. So one. So he hits you for one damage. And then you need to make me a constitution saving throw. So those are gonna be on your first page. Saving throws. And that's a d20. 50. So as it bites you, you kind of feel like this. It feels like poison kind of entering your system, but you just like, you know, you flex venom. Well, he's trying to poison you. Poison is you drink poison. Venom is injected. I know, but if you get injected with venom, you're poisoned. Negative.
SPEAKER_00I'm reading what they wrote.
SPEAKER_01And also, can you make me one more constitution saving throw? Or when the big spider bought. Huh? Six. Plus? No, one plus five. Oh, a natural one. Cool. So how about we say I should have had you roll the other one before. Okay. Because that was when the big spider attacked you. And so you you passed that one. You failed against the small spider. So the small spider, you take one d4 of poison damage. So you take two points. I wanna decide. No, I'm the I'm the spider. Also, I that was like You decide. Rolls of four. So that's two more damage. Yeah, so you take two more damage from poison from the spider bite. But that's both of their turns, or all three of their turns. Now it's your turn.
SPEAKER_00Spinning attack.
SPEAKER_02Spinning attack with both my hand axes at the same time.
SPEAKER_01Your hand axes are range weapons.
SPEAKER_02That's a melee weapon.
SPEAKER_01No no no. Hand axe. It says right here, melee. You want to use that instead of your war hammer? If I have two, I can spin in like a ballerina and use their heads off. I have two! I know, but you're not a dual weapon fighter. Fine. Warhammer. Do you want to use one or two hands? So I can use two hands.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but I can't use two hand axes with my two hands. That's a special skill. Cheater.
SPEAKER_01But so your Warhammer, you can either swing it one-handed and it does less damage, or you can use two hands and it does more damage.
SPEAKER_02Well, what do you think I'm gonna do? Dungeon Master.
SPEAKER_01What which who do you want to attack? Well, we gotta get the big guy out of the way. Okay. Smashes. So since you're a barbarian, you get. Oh, before you attack, is there something you like to do? As a barbarian?
SPEAKER_02Investigate.
SPEAKER_01No! No! What are barbarians known for? Their beards! It's your special trait! You rage! Oh, rage. So as your bonus action, you can move down, you can mark off one of your rages. I don't want to rage.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, so now that you're raging, you have resistance to piercing, bludgeoning, and slashing damage, which means you basically just take half of all that. You get plus two to any attacks made with strength weapons. And I think you have an advantage on strength, saving throws, and checks. So now you can attack Big Spider, and since you're a barbarian of level five, you get two attacks. With the D100? No. Oh. At E20. So your first attack. What is it? Oh, a 16. I thought I said one.
SPEAKER_02Thank God.
SPEAKER_0116. Plus. So we'll look at your Warhammer. Plus seven. 23. Yeah, so that's 23. So that definitely plus two melee damage with Yeah, so you get plus two of your damage. Oh plus attack damage, okay. So that's 23, so that first attack definitely hits, so then you have another attack for your main action.
SPEAKER_0217 plus 7.
SPEAKER_01So those definitely both definitely both hit. So you can do damage on both of those. So you're swinging with two hands. If you look like all the way to the right on your Warhammer, it should give you what the damage is. I think it's one D10 plus something. One D10 plus four. So you do that twice. That looks like a D10. The D10 is this guy.
SPEAKER_02No, it's not.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it is.
SPEAKER_02This is the D10. D twelve. Did five plus four is nine. Plus two is eleven. And then you attack again. Three plus four is seven.
SPEAKER_01Plus two is nine. So you've hit this creature.
SPEAKER_02Twice. Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01So like it was looking, you know. Is he down? Is he down? This thing came tearing around the corner and was like really aggressive at you. It bit you once. Made me mad. And was it looked like, you know, as much as spiders probably don't feel don't have very many feelings, it looked like it was feeling confident. It was like, you're in my house. You came into my home turf. Those two slashes, you just like wailed into it. And you know, you weren't slicing it or cutting it. You were just smushing the inside of his body. And so it is not dead, but it is looking like it's not, he is looking rough. Like some of its legs are broken. You're pretty sure you can see a big divot in like its abdomen. Or is it thorax? Cephalothorax, yeah. And it looks like it's on its last legs, but it is still alive. Um last legs, so like two out of the eight left. Nice. Um, but that is your turn because you use your bonus action raise, your main action to attack twice, and you don't really want to move. Because just so you know, one of the rules in this game is if you move out of an enemy's range of attack, it gets an attack of opportunity on you, which basically means a free attack. So if you moved away from that square, you get three attacks. I'm gonna move away. No! Um, so now we're back to the top of the order, which means Big Boy Spider is all about you. Does he have anything cool? No, I guess he could have done that, but that's too bad. Okay, so he's like, he's pissed. He's on his last legs, but this is his home. He's defending it. He's not just gonna lay down and give it to you. So he's gonna attack you with a bite. That is 12 plus five.
SPEAKER_02Shouldn't he like roll a lower die since he's basically dead?
SPEAKER_01You don't want the rules to be any more complicated. I'm just saying. Uh honestly, I feel like being a little meta here, honestly, I feel like a lot of games they sh you should have like a lower ability to hit if you're super injured, but it's just not that way. I feel like just because it would be too complicated to be like, oh, you're in this range, and like, but yeah, so 12 plus 5 is 17. He's hit you. So he does 1d8. Oh, natural eight? So he does six damage to you. Because he does one d8 plus three. And then I need you to make me a constitution saving throw. My saving throw. It's on the first page.
unknownIt's just there.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna go to the Constitution?
SPEAKER_0216.
SPEAKER_0116. So once again, you feel like it's like when he bites you, you feel that burning. Like, as if there's venom getting injected into you. Suck it out. Yeah, you would go like and you like it burns your tongue a little bit, you'd be like, ooh, I like spicy. Yeah. Um but you will still take damage, just not as much. So C six.
SPEAKER_02Bro, half my damage is already gone.
SPEAKER_01So you take four damage. How much what health are you on?
SPEAKER_0226. Out of 50? Yes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Maybe I didn't uh scale this right.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So he's attacked you. Now the little little little bitty spiders. Take their turn, they're going to attack you.
SPEAKER_02A little bitty, but they're the size of a basketball.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So that is a 11. What's your armor class? 14. Oh, it doesn't hit you. Yeah. And then the second one, that is a 13 plus four. That's a 17. So that does hit you. So he does one point of damage. And then you need to make me a constitution saving throw. 16 again. Yep. You don't take any poison damage. These little guys' poison is not as uh potent as the big boys. But it is now your turn. What would you like to do? You have two attacks in your main action. I would suggest only spending one on the big guy. So do you want to attack big boy? Unarmed strike. I'm just kidding. Warhammer. Halfway dead. I'm gonna start showing off.
SPEAKER_02Warhammer.
SPEAKER_01Two-handed war hammer against big old spider. Just do the first one. What is it? Two. Plus. Seven. So nine. That misses.
SPEAKER_02Second one.
SPEAKER_01So even injured, this spider is still 18. Okay. That one hits. So you can roll damage. Where'd my D10 go? You're getting wrecked by these spiders, bro.
SPEAKER_02Why is there a zero on this one?
SPEAKER_01Uh so it's a D100. And so No. That's a D10. So it's part of the D100 series, so it'd be a zero.
SPEAKER_02There's no 10 on here.
SPEAKER_01That's the 10 is the zero.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Well, they should have put a one before the zero. Just saying. Just saying. Watch this though. Eight. Plus. Plus. Four is twelve. Am I still enraged? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I've enraged.
SPEAKER_0214.
SPEAKER_01Die! So the first hit, it didn't even really dodge you. You just kind of you missed. Like it can barely move, and you're like, you're in a rage, you're seeing red. The first Warhammer strike, like, hits one of its legs that's already laying on the floor, and you're like, okay, that's not attached to him anymore. And then the second one is like, you know, overhead two-handed strike straight to the the knob. Like when you try and hit the thing, and then the thing hits the bell, but I hit the head, and then the thorax just goes flying. You got like flashbacks, you're like, I remember that time at the county fair. And you just swing down, and when you look down, instead of the dinger going up, the head is smooshed into the floor. Smooshed. And that that spider is super duper squished. Squished him. You squished him. So even though that spider's dead, you still got two spiders coming after you. And that was your turn. Unless you want to go into a frenzy turn. No. Okay. Um. So you've taken your turn, and you could move, but they would get a free attack on you. So I'm guessing you don't want to move. So now it's the two mini spiders' turns. This one's going to attack you. That is a two plus four, which is a six, which definitely doesn't hit you, and the other one's going to attack you. That is a seven plus four, which is eleven, also doesn't hit you. So now it's your turn. You're pissed. You just walked into this tower. They basically beat you half to death. And now all that's left is these spiders about this big. 8. Plus. 715. So you can say you're attacking this guy, that definitely hits. So roll me some damage. If it's any, you you beat him. If it's what? He has one health. These spiders have one health. 8 plus 4 plus 2. And so you were like, you were about to use your war hammer, but then you're just like, I'm just gonna put my heel through this guy. And then you look over the other guy who. You know spiders don't really have feelings, but this guy's like. Oh shit. And so you have your second attack. Javelin. Just you want to?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's a d6. Okay. So roll plus four.
SPEAKER_01Well, you have to roll the hit first. Oh I'm gonna laugh if you miss. Four. Plus. What's your hit for javelin? Seven. So it's an eleven. You miss. Oh my gosh. And so you were showing up, you take a javelin off your back and go like this, and you just miss this guy. I mean, I would have missed with any of my weapons, but whatever. So this the spider gives one more, it's his turn now, and it's gonna attack you. That's a he's quick! I can't stab him. That's uh a natural 20. Which, in case no one knows about this, and I don't think Andrew does, when you roll a natural 20, I take the damage. You well you roll your damage dice, and they're doubled. And so his damage dice is a D1, and so you take two damage. Bruh. That would have been bad if the big spider did that to you. And then you need to make me a constitution saving throw. Just insult to injury. You were like trying to show off, and then he crits you. Oh man. 17. Yeah, so his his his uh his venom doesn't really affect you, but you're kind of pissed because you were showing off and then. Huh?
SPEAKER_02I missed.
SPEAKER_01Well, what'd you roll? Missed again. Two and a three. Well, it was three plus what is it, seven? So ten. Yes, you missed. Dude, this spider has one HP. You literally just need to sneeze on it.
SPEAKER_02Everybody knows. I am very good at rolling dice.
SPEAKER_01Well, he's gonna attack you again. That is a seventeen plus four is 21. So now you hit you. So you take one D1 of damage. So one. And then you need to roll me a constitution saving through. 17. Yeah, you're good. So now it's your turn again. What would you like to do? Warhammer it up. Six plus seven. Thirteen. Woo! You hit him! Would you like to roll damage? Huh? You want to roll damage? We're gonna do unarmed strike. You can't choose afterwards. Why not? Because they all have different hit chances. Well, this one is. Yeah, because the Warhammer will say like seven. Your unarmed strike is probably lower. Seven. Oh crap. You're just strong. Well, no matter what you do, you hit him, he has one health. Let me roll. Okay, fine. Wanna do it? Let's see how much of a paste you put him into.
SPEAKER_02Two. Plus four. Six. Plus my rage eight. Well, what are you doing? Stepping on his stupid head.
SPEAKER_01Well then you don't get your rage bonus because you have to use a strength weapon. I am a strength weapon. Me. I am a strength weapon. Um. So yeah, you you're literally like missing the spider left and right, and then finally you just like you're like, I'm done with this, you just stomp.
SPEAKER_00He's quick a little guy.
SPEAKER_01You're like, these weapons aren't working, feet good. Um and you stomp this spider. You literally have just walked into this tower. Oh, actually. My fault. With an unarmed strike, I don't roll any dice. It's just five hit damage. Okay. Well, no matter what, this guy had one health. You have firmly and utterly squished him. Yes, but I am. Where am I?
SPEAKER_0222 out of 50 health.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's not that's not great, I'll be honest.
SPEAKER_02It's a classic start for Andrew in any, you know, enemy rolling dice, you know. What was that? Oh, the there was the one where the zombie, like right at the beginning, just like destroyed me.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, it was one of the fighting fantasy books. Yeah. And you almost died to the first enemy who literally was like nothing. It was basically the equivalent of one of those spiders. Okay. So you're standing there, like panting. Cause you're and you're like, how did how did that how did that hurt so much? And but the spiders are dead, and now you're standing in this entranceway. Um, you're kind of looking into this side passage or side room. Um that looks kind of like a storage room. That's where the first spider came out of. And it kind of looks like there's some crates in there that are like semi-rotten. And uh there's like, you know, like a sheet kind of over them. And that's what you see currently in that room. So what would you like to do?
SPEAKER_02Eh, who cares? Yeah, I'm just gonna leave. What's over there? Let's take a peek.
SPEAKER_01Um, so in that room, it almost it looks a little bit like I mean, you're no you're no wizard man. But looking around, you've seen this type of equipment before. It kind of looks it looks a little bit like some kind of laboratory. Like there's glass beakers, there's a bunch of like health potions? There's a bunch of kind of like rotten-looking ingredients. Like there probably it was at one point like a bunch of plants and like herbs and stuff for mixing to make alchemical mixtures. Herbs. Herbs. Herbs. Um, but yeah, there's like a big metal, kind of like apothecary-looking table in there. There's a bunch of little glass like small glass files and jars, and the they're filled with like various uh chemical-looking liquids. Some of them have like, you know, mummified, or not mummified, but like pickled like animal parts. And you know, there's some like little things with powders and stuff, and that's just kind of what you can see from like the doorway. So would you like to go in? Sure. Make me an investigation check. Eight plus seven plus one. Okay, so as you look around, um, you're looking through all like these vials and stuff. Most of them look like they probably could have been viable liquids at one point, but now they're just like like black sludge. You're like this. Susphants. This stuff has been here a really, really long time. And you're looking through it's mostly just like rotten plants, broken glass, broken vials. But you do find a single vial that has like a really nice shimmering red liquid in it. Um, and you're an adventurer, you've seen these plenty of times before. Um, this is a potion of healing of some kind.
SPEAKER_00Drink it!
SPEAKER_01Okay. So you can drink it. I was gonna drink it before you said it was a healing potion. Whatever it is, I'm drinking it. So yeah, the potion you find, you drink it immediately.
SPEAKER_02It is a poison! Yes.
SPEAKER_01It's actually poison, you miss it. The red really fooled you. It's a greater healing potion, so it's gonna be four d4 plus four. So if you want to roll a four d4, add it up and then add four, and that's how much you heal.
SPEAKER_02So I had to roll d4 four times, or can I roll a I guess there's no d16.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but even if you had a d16, technically your odds of getting a higher number are better if you roll the d4 four times.
SPEAKER_02Statistics.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but three.
SPEAKER_02Six nine.
SPEAKER_01Ten plus four fourteen. Nice. That's almost maxi. I guess for now it would have been twenty. That's still pretty good.
SPEAKER_00It was supposed to just be a regular potion of healing, but I think I scaled that bite rock and it really hurt him.
SPEAKER_02Heal 14. 36 of 50.
SPEAKER_01I'll take it. So yeah, you I felt really good. Let's search for more healing potions. You being the barbarian you are, literally found a random alchemical thing and an old wizard's tower. Drink it immediately. I mean one of two things.
SPEAKER_02You cut could kill me or make me feel better.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, like you looked at it, you're like, oh, this is a healing potion, you've seen them all the time. When you've bought them and you use them for other adventures. So you're pretty confident about that one. So yeah, you you've looked through the rest of this room, and that's basically all you could find. Like, everything else is either broken or rotted, or like you're like, this is useless. Like, this tower's been here a long time, it's in ruins. So you walk into this room, this is the room that the giant spider came out of. And when you look into this room, everywhere else is kind of you know lightly kind of covered in webs, like a little bit, like all the floors, walls. When you look into this room, you're like, oh, this is where it was nesting. Like it's thick webs, and all across the floors walls, you can kind of see like little bundles. There's like a half dried-out husk of like a boar that looks like it's been drained. Um, some of the like husks you can kind of see, and they definitely look like they could be humanoid. So you think that other people have found their way in here and not been as lucky as you. Um, there's like a relatively fresh course, corpse of like a small deer. Don't know how that deer got in here. I guess maybe they went out hunting. But um Maybe they jumped. Jumped over the ten-foot wall. I mean, it's a deer, they can jump, they can jump pretty high. I guess that's true. Um But yeah, like Right over there's a white tail deer, and deer and deer. Um, but just kind of like looking into this room, you just see like really, really thick webs, a lot of these bundles, some of them looking uneasily humanoid, and some kind of like dried-out husks and like a fresh kill of like a deer that doesn't look like it's really been eaten yet. And so that's just what you kind of can see from the doorway. Hasn't been eaten yet? Yeah, like the deer. So I could eat it. Get some venison. Let's just start a fire and make some venison. I don't know if you'd want to eat a deer that's been like killed by a spider? Yeah, with like venom and stuff. Uh you never know. It could uh could be healing venom. Could be healing. I mean, you just did feel it burn the crap out of your insides, but could be healing. I don't want to go down the stairs yet. You want to like search the room at all, or or just you're good with just looking. I mean, might as well search.
SPEAKER_02Give me an investigation chick. Five.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so um You see nothing except web. Uh you kind of like look through some of the webs. Um you're not you don't really want to dig too. Much into these things because you're probably like, I'm gonna find like decomposing bodies in there. Take a little nap.
SPEAKER_00Oh yes, my favorite pillows are made out of spider silk.
SPEAKER_01Um you find like in some of the webs, there's like two gold candlesticks. And you also find a nice shaving kit, and it's like a nice razor with an ivory handle. And you think they could be worth some gold, like if you brought them back to town and sold them, but that's about all you find. Sharpen the candlesticks and use them as daggers. Oh my god. Barbarian with javelins, hand axes, and more hammers. I'm gonna sharpen cane. You know what? You're gonna sharpen gold. I don't think gold makes good weapons, man. It's soft.
SPEAKER_02True.
SPEAKER_01But, you know, the shaving kit has a blade. That's true. Pretty razor shark.
SPEAKER_02Alright, well. Definitely put them in my satchel. Okay, so yeah.
SPEAKER_01You have those now.
SPEAKER_02Do I want to go down the stairs?
SPEAKER_01Or do I just want to check? I'm gonna check out this last room. Last room. So this looks like, like any good wizard's tower, it's a library. And it probably looks at like at one point it probably was a really nice looking library, but Do I know how to read? What's your intelligence? It's just plus one. Well, that's saving throw. I'm sorry. What's your big number? 13. Yeah, you know how to read. Um but you're not a big reader, but you know how to read. Um, but you look in there, and it probably was a really nice library at one point. But just kind of looking across, most of the shelves are rotted. Most of the books, they look like if you touch them, they turn to dust. Um, oh wow. I touch them and they turned. Okay, maybe not that bad. But most of them, like, this has been open to the air. Like, there's no roof on this place. It's rained, it's everything. Like, these books have seen better days. Um, the furniture, like, there's not very much remaining because it was all made of wood and everything, so it's kind of rotted. Can I you use the reclaimed wood? To make a fire to cook. To make some nice furniture. No. Make some dice trays. This is like rotted wood. Like, it's pretty bad looking. Huh.
SPEAKER_02Well, maybe I could make a fire and cook some venison.
unknownOh my gosh.
SPEAKER_02Uh we'll investigate a little bit. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Roll me an investigation, chick.
SPEAKER_01Keep forgetting what my things are. Yeah. Thirteen. Thirteen. So you're looking around, you like you go through, you're looking through all the shelves, and while most of the books are like water, damage, rotten, you find one book that's you know about like a medium-sized book that's like in perfect condition. It's a leathern-bound book, it's got a gold, it's got a golden clasp on it. Um it looks like there's like some some arcane runes like sketched on the outside. Not a Bible. No. Um, they're not in like any particular language, but it looks like, you know, like, I mean, you're not a you're not a mage. You're a barbarian, but you're you're like, these look kind of like magic runes. Put that in my satchel. Okay. So you now have an arcane-looking book. Nice. But yeah, that that's that's basically all you could find in this room. It's mostly just rotted furniture, rotted bookshelves, and a bunch of books that look like they've been ruined.
SPEAKER_02Ruined ruins. Ruined ruins. Alright. Go back. We're gonna go downstairs. Into the dungeon. Going down the stairs, are we? Maybe there's dragons in the dungeon. Yes. See what I did there? Dragons in the dungeon, DD. Dungeons and dragons. Very, very just because it's downstairs in a tower doesn't mean it's a dungeon, but it's a good thing. Very good could be. Okay. It could be. So, um, you are I find the staff and the game's over. Is that where the staff is? Well, I guess we'll see. The staff down there?
SPEAKER_00Andrew.
SPEAKER_02Tell me what's down there.
SPEAKER_00Oh I'm about to tell you. Come on, tell me.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So uh as you begin descending the stairs to the basement below, your eyes adjust, and you notice the flicker of firelight um from below.
