Hello everyone, welcome to Shadow of the Game. My name's Steven, and we will see Andrew in just a second. This is the second half of our playthrough of a 5e DD scenario called The Silver Tower. Um, if you haven't watched the first half, why don't you go check that out and then you can come back and see what's going on. For everyone who hasn't watched the first half, welcome in. Let's see what Bjorn does with the second half of his adventure. Arriving at the bottom of the stairs, you see a warm brazier just to your right. So these are the stairs. Warm what? Brazier. Brazier? No, a brazier. Like most those big metal cages that have like wood in them to make fires. Uh not not a brazier. You see a a bra, a warm bra. Um you see like a a warm brazier just to your right that has a flame on it. That's like a flame burning in it, and then ahead of you, spaced evenly throughout the room, there's these four uh like standing torches that Torches torches, torchers, torches, uh, that reach about halfway up to the ceiling, which is about 10 feet tall. Um the torches are unlit. Um, and then off to the left, in this little alcove, you see a large silver mirror with a black frame. Mirror, mirror on the wall. That's kind of set into that shallow alcove. And then on the south wall, to your right, directly opposite the mirror, is a large stone archway set into a similar alcove. The stone archway matches the door frame that you saw on the ground floor above. Although, although this archway is simply part of the stone wall, and you see no way to pass through it. So there's a stone archway. Smash it! It's literally just like smash. Okay. And so when you walk in right to the left, you see this brazier that has fire burning in it. These four stone torch torches, can't speak. Touches that are unlit. There's a mirror on the wall on the left, and then on the right, it looks like an archway for a doorway, but it's just stone. Like it's not like different stone, it's literally just looks like they built an archway to the wall. It's a flux. So, what would you like to do?
SPEAKER_00Wanna take one of the torches and light use the brazier, light it on fire, and light all the torches. You want to light all the torches? Unless it's like some sort of ritual and summoning of something bad, but I'm gonna do it. Okay. I need to be able to see better.
SPEAKER_01You open your you open your pack, you have like uh standard adventures gear in there, you have a torch, and you go over to the brazier, you light it up, and you go around and uh light all the torches. And they're now lit. The room's a little brighter. You can see. I mean, you could mostly see already with the torch, it was just a little shadowy. But all the torches are lit now. Let's check out this.
SPEAKER_00Oh no. See what I can see on this archway carved about stone.
SPEAKER_01The archway. Uh, could you give me an investigation check? Eleven. Eleven. Okay. So you come up to this archway, you feel around, you're like touching it, you're trying to see, like, oh, is this an invisible wall or something? And you spend about five minutes looking at it, touching it, looking, trying to look behind it. It is literally just a stone archway built into this wall. Like, as far as you it's like, as far as you can tell, there's nothing hidden about it. It's literally just a random archway built into a wall. Maybe it's decorative. Like you knock on it, it doesn't feel hollow. Just looks like a stone archway built into this stone wall.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna give a a grunt and then walk the other way and just walk this way. Check out the mirror. Check out my my sexy self.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Could you make me an investigation check? Natural 20! Plus one, 21. 21. Okay, so my first good roll ever. So you come up to this mirror. It's a really nice mirror. It's got like this obsidian-like frame. And you look in this mirror. Obsidian. I could use that and break it off and make sharp weapons. Oh gosh! They make sharp razor-like weapons, spearheads out of obsidian. Oh, I know. Okay, continue. And you're like, maybe I could open these candlesticks into daggers. Maybe I could break this obsidian arch and make it into dagger.
SPEAKER_00This bag is for trinkets.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So and candlesticks. Um, you come up to this mirror, and it's a pretty tall mirror. How tall, how tall did I say it was? Tall. Seven feet tall. So it's like a seven foot tall mirror. You're probably about six five, so you're like, oh, I can actually see myself. Crazy. Um, and you're looking in this mirror, and like, it's like a pretty clear mirror. Like, you're like, even if as old as this place is, still perfectly clean, there's no smudges or anything. And as you're looking at yourself, you know, you do you're doing a little little you know, double bicep, double bicep. Um you like look and you notice, you look in the mirror, and the two like you lit all four torches. And when you look in the mirror, the two torches closest to you in the mirror aren't lit. But the two torches far away are. And you like look at that and you turn around, and all four of the torches are lit.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01But in the mirror, the ones closest to you aren't.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01So that just you're just like, hmm. Interesting. What does this mean? Yes, what does it mean? I want to take this mirror with me. It's embedded in the wall. You can't take it with you. You can't make a weapon out of it.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna hit it with my hammer.
SPEAKER_01You wanna hit it with your hammer? Just kidding.
SPEAKER_00Oh very barbarian of you.
SPEAKER_01I'm just gonna hit it with my hammer.
SPEAKER_00Well, it's, you know, clearly dark magic. Yes. Some sort of badness.
SPEAKER_01Dark magic.
SPEAKER_00Is there anything else I can investigate in this room? Or is that basically it?
SPEAKER_01Do I just see it, look in a mirror and see that something that's not real and then I just leave? You you've done a pretty fine investigation of the room besides the torches and this brazier. I guess if you want if you want to make a you can make a general perception check with your whole room. You haven't done that yet. General perception. Yeah, so just if you're looking around the whole room, just make a perception check. Twenty d20 still? Yeah, yep. Always d20. Always d20. Unless it says otherwise.
SPEAKER_00Just just continue.
SPEAKER_01What did you roll? Don't worry about it. No, please tell me. No, it's okay. Come on. Perception's plus zero, so. What'd you roll? Two. A two. We went from a twenty to a two! So yeah, you you look around the room and you're like, there's four torches in here. And there's this braze here. I lit all four of those torches. I am a smart barbarian.
SPEAKER_00Not very perceptive. Well. So there's nothing back there that I can.
SPEAKER_01No, you walk the permit of the room. There's nothing else in this room besides those four torches. They're all lit. And I'm just gonna smash the mirror. I'll smash it. You're gonna smash the mirror. Yes. Okay. I wanna I'm angry. Make me a attack roll.
SPEAKER_00Warhammer. Oh, so that's still a d20. 11.
SPEAKER_01Uh altogether? What's my what's what am I smashing it with a war hammer? Was I supposed to roll a d10? Or no? I see what you're saying. Yeah, so 18 altogether. And then okay, so you can roll some damage for me.
SPEAKER_00D'12.
SPEAKER_0110. No. It's a D10.
SPEAKER_0010. Uh plus.
SPEAKER_01You're not in a rage, so it's just the plus whatever is on there. 14. 14. So you wind up. You're like, this mirror's tricking me. I know it is. Um I didn't like it. Didn't like it. You're like, the torches are lit in my room, they're not lit in that room. What's going on with these rooms? Um, that's what your brain's thinking. And so you just wind up. I should have tried to walk through the mirror. And you connect with this mirror, and nothing happens. Nothing happens. I figured I would happen. Like, you're like stupid mirror. This mirror should be smashed, it should be cracked. You just hear like a like that was a good sound effect. Um and you still look in this mirror. Half the torches aren't lit in that one.
SPEAKER_00What does it mean?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. But in your room, all of them are lit.
SPEAKER_00Do like another perception or something?
SPEAKER_01There's something with this mirror, man. Yeah, so what's in the mirror?
SPEAKER_00Me.
SPEAKER_01But what's different about the mirror?
SPEAKER_00What do you mean, what's different about the mirror? There's two torches that are not lit.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00What do you want me to do?
SPEAKER_01Light the torches? Well, they're all lit already. Because you you've lit all the torches, so in your room they're all lit. My candlesticks? Oh my god. Not the key, you can't make daggers out of the candlesticks.
SPEAKER_00Do I have to make another perception roll? Because clearly I'm not understanding what I'm supposed to deduct from this mirror.
SPEAKER_01Um, you can make me make me a um make me uh just make me a perception check.
SPEAKER_00Insight.
SPEAKER_01I guess they're both wisdom, but both plus zero. Twelve. So as you're looking in this mirror and you're looking around the room, um, one of the things you notice is so in the in the mirror, the two torches that are farthest away from you seem to be lit. The ones uh next to you seem to be not lit. And when you look back at the torches in your room, um you can see around the bases of the two torches that are farther away from you, the ones that are lit in the mirror, they have a lot of ash gathered around their bases. Whereas the ones closest to you don't seem to have almost any ash at all burnt around them. And so it seems like the torches farther away from you uh have been lit a lot more often. Um, whereas the ones next to you have been almost not lit at all or barely lit.
SPEAKER_00Hmm. Going to extinguish which ones? That's a good question. Which ones? Let's extinguish the ones in the mirror that appear not lit.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so the two closest to the mirror? Correct. So you go over and you extinguish those. And as you extinguish the last one, that stone archway that um was previously just looked like a stone archway, all of a sudden you see like a shimmer and light with like a like a purple portal um appears in that archway. And so now you're just looking like I think uh I think I'm uh I think I'm just gonna leave.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01So congratulations, you solved my my mirror puzzle. Imagine I just left. I can't forget this. I don't know. Go back to the the order of magisters and protectors. Yeah, I couldn't find it. It was there's just nothing in there. Alright.
SPEAKER_00Walk through the portal. No.
SPEAKER_01What do I do now? Oh, extinguish the candles first. No, then it doesn't work. Then the portal is. No, you couldn't walk through. I just wanted to I didn't want to I just didn't want to do it if you I don't know. You wanna walk through? Should I do a perception before I do? Yeah, you can you can do whatever you want. Let's do a perception check before I walk through. Okay, give me a perception check. Seventeen. Seventeen. Um so you like walk up to this portal and you're like, I could have sworn there was a wall here before. Um it's purple, it's like shimmering. Um, I'm not sure if you've ever experienced portals before, but you kind of know the concept of them, and so looking at it, you're like, well, this is probably a passageway to somewhere. Um, but you are looking at it, you kind of like touch it, you put your finger in there. It feels like a little, it almost feels like you're dipping your finger in kind of like cold water, but it doesn't it doesn't damage you or anything, it doesn't feel like anything bad. Um but yeah, you can put your hand through it, it doesn't hurt. It just kind of feels like you're dipping into cold water.
SPEAKER_00We're gonna step through now.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So as you step through the portal, uh you feel it pass over your skin almost as if you're stepping through a layer of icy water. Time seems to like stretch for a moment and then it snaps back, and you find yourself in darkness. Um you have like the faint light of the portal uh behind you that illuminates a little bit of the area, uh, but for the most part, it is very dark in this room. Even though it's kind of dark, you can kind of make out most of it, and it's like this spacious laboratory that lays before your eyes. Uh the walls are all clean white stone, and the tall ceiling is held up by these four pillars that are spaced evenly throughout the room. Uh, rows of shelves line the walls, and there's two separate alcoves on the far end of the uh laboratory that have various crates, barrels, boxes, and like stacks of different goods. Um, you hear like a scuttering in the darkness, and like a soft, dry cackle emanates from like the side like the dark side of the room. Uh for a brief moment you sense like somewhat like a pressure on your mind, and then it fades. Um, if you could make me a deception check.
SPEAKER_0012 minus 1, 11.
SPEAKER_01Um okay. So yeah, you're in this room. My candlesticks have candles.
SPEAKER_00No, just candlesticks. So I can't light my candlesticks because there's no wax. No. Um what are these?
SPEAKER_01Are these like pillars? So yeah, those are four pillars holding up the ceiling. Smash the pillar. Oh my god. Just kidding. Just kidding. I just want to smash everything with my big war hammer. I mean, you are a barbarian through and through, aren't you? Um, alright, let's, you know, let's walk around, let's investigate.
SPEAKER_00Let's go right into the middle.
SPEAKER_01Make me an investigation. Do you want to like actually like kind of go around the whole room and investigate? Yeah. Okay, make me an investigation check, please. What do you got for me? Something good, I hope.
SPEAKER_00Natural one.
SPEAKER_01Yep, so um this is a this is, you know, this is a room. And there's stuff in it. Like, that's there, there's a box over here, and there's like a shelf.
SPEAKER_00Am I drunk?
SPEAKER_01Do you want to grab one of the things on the shelves?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So you walk up and you're like, ooh. Bitten by a spider. Looks look shiny, mine. Um I'm I am collecting shiny, shiny objects. Oh, there's uh there's a perfectly good bar of steel that you think you could mold into a dagger. Yes. Perfect. Um, so you What's my blacksmithing skill? What is my blacksmithing skill? Can I make a fire in here and make a forge? So yeah, you go and you're trying to investigate this room. You kind of get bored immediately, and you're like, Where's this staff I've been hearing about? This sucks. Um, as you kind of move around the room, you kind of hear like off in the distance, like this kind of like scampering, but you're like, it's probably nothing. It's a little puppy. I wasn't attacked by spiders or recently or anything. It's fine. Um, and you go to grab, you're like, I bet I could make a dagger out of that iron. And you go to grab it, and you just hear like off the distance, like where you heard that scuttering, like, get out of my house. And out of the darkness, you see like this big green eye open. And I would like you to roll initiative for me, please. Because you're getting attacked. 12 plus 2, 14. 14. So let's see what our boy gets. That is not a 14. So, um, as this encounter starts, like you turned around and you saw like this big green eye that's kind of like glowing. And as you like look over there a little more and focus on it, you see like this kind of humanoid-looking creature, but it doesn't look like a human at all. Besides having, you know, two legs, two arms, head, basic humanoid shape. It's got this one massive green eye in the middle of its head. It's got, you know, like three-fingered hands with like, well, four fingers, I guess, if you're including a thumb, but three-fingered claws, it's got spines going all the like the length of its back, it's got like three toes that are all big talons, it's kind of hunched over, and it's got like you know, big kind of like fang-like teeth. And you are like, what the hell is this thing? But it did speak to you and would seem to be mad that you were in its house. Um. And if this is his house, and this was the house of Tower of Eric Silver, you're like, hmm, maybe this is Eric Silver. But you get to go first because you rolled better. Which means you. What would you like to do? Let's see. We're gonna put him in. He was chilling out. That's not what he looks like, but there's the mini for you. Can I talk to him? Nope. You tried to steal his stuff, he is pissed. That's what you get for rolling a natural one. Eric! So you tried to grab that iron and he was like, This person's trying to steal my treasure.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna poke your stupid green eye.
SPEAKER_01So, what would you like to do? Throw my javelin right at your eye. So you go first, you have your action, bonus action, and you have your movement, which you have 40, so you get to move eight spaces. My range weapon? My sling? If you'd like to. Um, it's only a but D4. That it doesn't seem like talking were gonna help. This thing seems hostile. It's a javelin, not a range weapon.
SPEAKER_00It is.
SPEAKER_01I mean it's a range weapon. I don't know. Because that's the hand axes are also ranged weapons. Um I think I could throw my my axe, right? Yeah, like your your hand axes and javelins can be used as melee weapons, but they're really mainly supposed to be they're mainly like um ranged weapons. Okay. Um, if you're gonna say something with melee, I would suggest you're using a war hammer. And also the way you read this is this range number. The first number that's not in the parentheses is like its range, and so hand axes 20 feet, javelin 30 feet. The second range number is like their max distance, and if you if you go beyond the first range number, you're gonna be attacking at disadvantage. So you can throw this javelin 120 feet, but anything beyond 30, you're gonna be rolling at disadvantage. The same with the hand axes, you can throw them up to 60 feet, but after about 20 feet, you're like, oh man.
SPEAKER_00I mean, he's only 25 feet away from me right now, so.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so all your hand axes and your javelins definitely uh pretty much ranged weapons. You can use them in melee, but that's not really what they're designed for. So, what would you like to do? Um, if I throw my javelin, do I get it back? Uh, if you go pick it up, gotta go pick it up after I throw it up. Or pull it out of the guy. And if you're gonna go pull it out of the guy, you might as well just deck with your warhammer. Because I'm pretty sure your warhammer does way more damage, anyways. It does. Because you are because remember if you because you're your barbarians mostly are melee attackers because in most parties they're usually considered the tank because they don't usually have the highest armor class because they don't usually wear armor, but as soon as they start raging, they are they get take half damage from piercing, slashing, and um bludgeoning damage. So most enemies, unless they're like super magic or something, you're just gonna be taking half damage to everything. I want to throw the javelin because it sounds cooler, but I'm just gonna have to run at him with my war hammer. So 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30. You have enough to get there. And is there something you'd like to do before you attack?
SPEAKER_00I don't do I wanna use another rage.
SPEAKER_01This seems like the pretty big boss man.
SPEAKER_00He doesn't seem pretty big to me.
SPEAKER_01Oh well, let's see when he I'm using my rage charge. So you have started to rage! So you now take half damage from bledging, piercing, slashing. You have advantage on your strength chest and saving throws, and you get plus two to any damage with a strength weapon. Congratulations, you're a barbarian. Roll? Yep, so you want to attack, so you get two attacks. So first attack. 12 plus anything? Or is that? Um, so that one misses. Next one. Twenty-three. Twenty-three does hit, so roll me some damage. So I'm assuming you're using it two-handed, which is d10. Plus six, I think, because it's plus four, and then plus two for your rage. Fourteen. Gee, gosh, dang it. Do you say fourteen?
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01This guy seemed pretty like aggressive, confident. Um, and all of a sudden, just like a like a massive muscle that's a cannonball out of hell. You come swinging at him. The first one doesn't even hit, like, he like dodges the last second, but that second one hits him like you know right in the side of the ribs, and you hear like a little crunch. He's not he's not dying at any point, but that hit, he was like, Oh man, like you could see it in his face for a second, he's like, that was super bad. This guy's strong. Like, like, oh boy, I'm beyond! Oh boy. Um, he was like, That's that's not good. So it is now Eric Silver's turn. Oh, it is Eric Silver. Can we just talk?
SPEAKER_00Where's where's this where's the staff?
SPEAKER_01So, what do I want to do? He seems a little more confident at range because you know he's a mage. He was a mage in his life, he's a mage in whatever monstrous form he finds himself in now. But you coming up and just straight up like decimating his ribs, he is going to just start slashing at you with his claws. Um, so he is going to make he gets to make two claw attacks against you because he has multi-attack. Um, so first one is going to be a 18 plus four, which is 22. That one hits. And then also a 13 plus 4, which is a 17, which hits. So he does 1d6 plus 3 each. Jeez! So that is a 2, a 1, so that's 3 plus 6 is 9 damage. That hot. Um, let's see, does he have any bonus actions? He definitely doesn't want to move away from you, because that seems like a horrible idea. Does he though? No. Um, there's no reason to. Um, yeah, he's not going to. Yeah, because I think he kind of realizes he's not gonna be able to outrun you. Um, so he's just gonna stay in melee. He's not gonna move, and he doesn't have any bonus actions. So it is now your turn. What would you like to do, Barb? What was that? What'd you roll over there? Altogether is natural one plus seven, eight. Well, natural one misses 18. 18! That one hits! Give me some damage.
SPEAKER_00Where did it go? There it is.
SPEAKER_01So plus six. So you have a bonus action left. Would you like to go into a frenzied rage? Yeah. Because you're pissed. So He scratched me twice. Yeah. So from now on, you get to have three attacks per turn. Because your bonus action. Because I think see. Is there something I have to check off for frenzy? No. Um just because there's no like limited amount of times, it's just any time you range, you could go into a frenzy. And you'll be like, really tired, right? Yeah. And I pretty sure I don't I'm pretty sure in the rules it says you have to take like another bonus action to go in frenzy. I've like, because I've watched I've watched a lot of role-playing, and like most of the people that do it, it's like you're already in a rage. I feel like you don't need to be like, I'm now in a frenzy. Like, you'll just get more pissed. And so you don't need to take a bonus action this turn to become a frenzy next turn. So you're in a frenzy now, you get one more attack. Gosh, this guy's 13. So you see more red than you were seeing before, and this spike in your adrenaline, you just swing a little wide, and you miss him with the last attack. He ducks a little bit, you're just going and you're foaming at the mouth, you're pissed, and you're just not exactly with it at the moment. But you just miss him by a little smidge.
SPEAKER_00I'm rolling a d10. How how much better can I do? I had to roll an 8-9 or a 10 to actually do damage. That's some bull. That's some bow. Who who made this game? Who he wrote it? Jerk.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So it is now Eric 70% chance of missing. It is now Eric Silver's turn. Oh gosh. I'm gonna make him into Eric Bronze after this. Man, he is demoted a podium. He's so hurt. I mean, he's fine.
SPEAKER_00He's not rolling or a ten. What the heck? What headpoints are you on? 27? Okay. Okay. You gotta try and do max damage to me at this point, right?
SPEAKER_01I'm just trying to think of what would best do that. Okay. You sh he he should just give up. He's like, I'm not winning this. You see him like raise one of his claws, hand clawed hands, and he starts like chanting something. You have no idea what it is, but it sounds kind of evil. And like dark energy starts collecting around his hand, he just slams it into the ground, and as he does, it splits into two little streams, and like right next to you, two zombies appear that kind of look like they are made of ash. Like they kind of look like they have a little embers in them, and they're kind of like like sloughing off like ash a little bit. So they are now going to enter into the fight. This is so they have 14. Oh gosh, 12. Okay. Ash zombies, go on there. And so now there are two Ash zombies around him. That's all he can do. And he's definitely not gonna move. He is going to Oh man, these barbarians are so He's going to run away from you. Um, he is going to try to get away. So he can move 30, so 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30. He's gonna move here. As he runs away, he's moving your sphere of influence. So you do get an attack, because basically, you have your action botion action on your turn, then you usually have like a reaction, and different characters have different means of using that. One of the ways you can use it is uh attacks of opportunity. So if someone leaves your sphere of range of attack and they're running away, you can take an attack at them. And so you get a free attack on him.
SPEAKER_00Free d10, right?
SPEAKER_01Uh no. So you have to roll a d20 to try and hit him. So he's hoping you miss.
SPEAKER_00Haha. Yeah, didn't miss 23.
SPEAKER_01You didn't miss. Uh you can roll damage. Yep.
SPEAKER_0012. 8. No, that's 10. Come on, baby. Natural 10, baby. Let's go. Let's go. So how much damage? 16 total, because it's natural 10 plus 6. He gone. Oh man! Oh my gosh! You can't stop this four hammer! Come on! Oh, Jesus Christ. Hit him in his stupid big old green eye. No, not his green eye. He squished like an accordion straight into the ground. That's his special eye. So he attempted to run away, but he didn't. He's still here. He messed him up.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh. Okay. Okay, don't celebrate yet. Because. How much damage did you do? 16?
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
unknownOh my gosh.
SPEAKER_00That was max damage. Max damage. He was so.
SPEAKER_01Do I get extra damage because I'm in a frenzy? No. You just get that extra attack on your turn, which is, trust me, more than enough damage. You don't need any bonuses. I need it. Like I said, barbarians are good at doing one thing and it's damage, and you do a hell of a lot of it. And you take less damage. Oh gosh. Oh gosh. So he was he was looking like after like those couple of attacks from you, he was like not looking like he was on death door, but like he was looking rough, and that's like you saw kind of desperation in his eyes when he summoned these two zombies and like ran away. As he's running away, you basically just like swing your hammer and like clip the side of his head. He's stumbling, he like stumbles, and he is like you're pretty sure there's a dent in his head that wasn't there before. One of his spikes is broken off, and he is like limping away. Like he did make it over here. Yeah, so no matter like no matter what, unless you kill him, they get to get away. Um, but yeah, so it's like 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30. He is like running to the corner of the room. He is like holding his head, he doesn't look steady on his feet. He looks like his legs are shaking, arms are heavy, mom spaghetti. Mom spaghetti. Um and his eye, once filled with confidence, is no longer so. And he is just in the cow, he's in the corner, like, well no, oh no. Um, but he did leave you with two friends, uh, in the form of Ash zombies. So now that was his turn. Back to the top of the order. It's you. So what do you want to do? Because if you just like him leaving you, if you run away from these ash zombies, as soon as you leave their sphere, they get attacks on you.
SPEAKER_00Alright, first zombie, war hammer. 24.
SPEAKER_01Uh that definitely hits. You attacking the same guy? Well, do one. Oh, just do one at a time. Do one at a time. So the first one do damage for me. Six plus six is twelve. Okay, so that that that zombie. Let's say you attack. Which one do you want to attack? Doesn't really matter. This one. Okay. So you attack that zombie, you like hit him straight in the chest. It basically like caves in this chest. There's big like puff of ash and kind of smoke. You hear him going like um. And he look like, I mean, they don't show really any emotion. You're not like, oh, he's looking hurt, but his body is like half of it's falling apart. Like, he looks like he's not really keeping it together. But he's he's still standing. I'm still standing. But he you hurt it with that blow.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna hit the same zombie. Okay. In hopes. Roll me another deck. Well, I get three, right? Yeah, so you're in frenzy. I'm gonna hit him again. Do it. We'll try.
SPEAKER_01Well, four. Plus. You hit him. Ah! So do me some damage. Natural one. So you were like, I'm gonna finish this guy off. Couldn't do it. He's he is literally like, it almost looked like the magic keeping, because like these didn't just like it almost looks when they got formed that like the dust on the ground kind of formed into this mass and it kind of solidified into this ash zombie. It looks like it's barely keeping together, but it's like arm is falling off, one of its legs is like broken and at a weird angle, but it is still looking at you kind of dead-eyed, no emotion, like I'm gonna do something to you.
SPEAKER_00Alright, my last hit, I'm gonna hit the same zombie.
SPEAKER_01Oregon. Eleven. You hit it. Six, twelve. Okay. So you hit the zombie, and you're like, this time, I got it. Let's see. What did you do? 11 damage? 12. 12. Oh gosh, okay. So you hit this zombie for a second, you kind of see it like almost try to keep together, and then basically the zombie just like falls into ash, and basic like it looked like it really struggled to stay together and then just falls down, and now there's just like this little pile of ash and embers on the ground. So yeah. That guy's that guy's dead. But there's still one ash zombie. That is the end of my actions, though.
SPEAKER_00So he's gonna do what he's gonna do. So this ash zombie. No we should call him? Ooh, an ash hole.
SPEAKER_01I need you to make me didn't like my joke. Sorry, I was reading. I need you to make me a constitution saving throw. Saving throw? Balls. You should be pretty good at constitution.
SPEAKER_00Is this still D20?
SPEAKER_01Yep, D20. And the saving throws are on your first page. 17. Yep, never mind. Uh uh-huh. Uh okay. So this other zombie Like basically is right next to you, and it kind of just like it's there's there's no there's no intelligence behind these eyes. It is literally just like an ash form, and it kind of just like slams its arms against you. It is going to. That is a 13 plus three, which is a 16, I think that hits you. Yeah. And you take um five, but since you're raging, you take half damage from what five. So you take two. So it rounds down. Yeah. Always benefit the player. So you take two damage. This zombie, you're basically like, what the heck? It kind of, you know, it kind of like burns a little bit because there's like some embers in there, but like the attack itself is kind of just like second degree burn. You're like, ooh, ooh, spicy.
SPEAKER_00Oh, he's. Oh my chest hair!
SPEAKER_01Um, but yeah, this this zombie just like it hits you. And that's about it. You're like, I could probably flick you over. But the little baby bag didn't do anything. That is the end of the Ash Zombie's turn. It is now Eric Silva's turn. Eric ain't gonna try anything. He's in the corner, cowering in fear. And he is going to move one to the right, and he's like holding his chest. You can see like there's blood like coming out of you hit him with a war hammer, but like you've like split his skin, his ribs look broken, his head is bleeding, and there's a dent in it. But he looks at you with this big green eye, and it starts to like light up, and then all you see him kind of like chanting under his breath, and all of a sudden there's just like a and there's like a beam that comes out of this eye. I need you to make a constitution saving throw. 16. So you succeed, you're still going to take um. Oh no, you don't even take any damage. What the hell? What the hell? No! I block it with my Warhammer. So you basically kind of like dodge out of the way and like this greenish, like sickly, as it passes by, you kind of almost feel like your skin desiccate a little bit, but it doesn't hit you. And after he does that, you see him like mutter a curse. And I mean he's gonna move to this corner. Just he's like, I'm sucking this corner. Um, but that is his whole turn. Man, come on, Eric! I'm trying to help you! Um and that's the end of his turn. It is now mean old Bjorn's turn. Warhammer! Attack this creature. 13. You hit him. Wrote me some damage. Eight. Eight. That was bad. Second attack. Nothing happened. That was eight. I mean, you hit him. He's the zombies like damage, but. I haven't oh wait. Before you do that, you need to make me a constitution saving throw. Constitution plus five. Seven. Ooh! Fun! So you hit the zombie for the first time, and like as you hit it, it's you know mostly made of ash. Like a big puff of ash comes out. And he gets bigger. The same thing happened with the other zombie, but you kind of just went like and kept going. This time you like breathe some of it in, it like burns your lungs, you start coughing a little bit. And so when you go up for this next attack, you're rolling at disadvantage. So you roll two d20s and you take the lower one. Okay. What'd you roll?
SPEAKER_0020.
SPEAKER_01An actual 20? And eight. Well, you still hit him. Luckily, the zombie is not very dexterous. It doesn't have any armor, so you still do damage. Roll me some damage. Is it still disadvantage? Uh no. Just just for that. Yeah. You only you only get disadvantage on like the big D20 runs. Natural one. Okay. Wonderful. So six. Seven? Total. Seven, so that puff of smoke kind of like knocked you off your game.
SPEAKER_00No, I can't roll.
unknownUm.
SPEAKER_01And you have one more attack. It's still standing. It's not it's not standing well, but it's still standing. What'd you roll?
SPEAKER_02One.
SPEAKER_01So this this dust, this ash is really giving you trouble. It's in your lungs. You can't really see it, it's like in your eyes. And you swing, and you just miss like even though the zombie's right next to you, somehow you miss it. Um, but at the end of your turn, you can repeat your constitution saving throw.
SPEAKER_0022.
SPEAKER_01So that stuff was in your lungs and your eyes. You kind of like do a wipe, you do a really big cough, you know, spit out like a wad of phlegm that's like just black with ash. But you can see now you're no longer bothered by that ash. Unfortunately for you, it is now the ash zombie's turn, who is just going to slam you in the face. Uh, that is a 15, which I hits. And you take one plus one, so you take one fledging damage. Wow, this ash zombie is doing great. I mean, it's distracting you from the main guy, so it's doing its job. Um, so that's the ash zombie's turn. It's now Eric Silver. I did two damage. It is now, yeah, just one. You take half damage because you're raging. Um Eric Silver's turn. Does he have any other cool stuff? I mean, I guess he kind of does, but he's definitely not going to use it because just more story stuff, and he's trying to kill you. He is not doing well. So once again, you see him in the distance. He's kind of in the shadowed corner. That eye starts glowing again. And laser beam to your face. Make me a constitution saving throw. 23. You like you you're not even trying to dodge it, you just kind of like you like turn and it like goes past your face. You're like, what the hell? Matrix Lomo. And he's and he is just like he's like over in the corner, like screaming. He's pissed. He's like, Why aren't my cool eye laser beams hitting you? Why is my ash zombie just like correct? Your chest like he's not having a good time. Man. My constitution saving throws are great. Well, because yeah. My damage rolls, horrible. Yeah, well, between you and me, you probably want your constitution saving throws to be high. I mean, yeah, but you'd be taking a lot of damage if those hit. It's gonna go forever. So now it is your turn again. Oh, does he want to move? Yeah, he's gonna he's gonna move over here. Um, so he's kind of out of sight of you right now, but he's not your main problem. There is a Ash zombie in front of you. Let's try this again. First attack.
SPEAKER_00Melee. Melee. What hammer? Fifteen.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, that's just like the oh wait. So you like hit the zombie, and you like go, you know, twelve to six straight on his head, you smash it, it like literally starts falling apart, and then like at the last second, it kind of jitter like jitters and it forms back up into a zombie.
unknownHit him again. Hit him again.
SPEAKER_0120. So you hit, what's the damage? 12. 12, okay, so that's okay.
unknownCome on.
SPEAKER_01Stop! So you hit this zombie again. Let me kill him! You hit this zombie again, and like this time you go, you're like, fine, that doesn't. I'm gonna go to the same thing. Now we're going 12 to 6 or 6 to 12. 6 to 12, and like you go straight through the middle of the zombie, it kind of crumbles, and it's like in two halves, and it starts falling apart, and then like at the last second, it stops and it forms back into a zombie again.
SPEAKER_00Last one. Natural 20, 27.
SPEAKER_01Well, so it can't roll, right? You roll your your damage attack and you double this number. So 16 plus 6, 24. Take that.
SPEAKER_02Bruh.
SPEAKER_01So yeah. Before, almost, you know, these zombies don't show any emotion, but all of a sudden you kind of saw like a quirk of your smile. He's like, I am the golden god. Um, but this time, six to twelve, twelve to six not working. You go to three to nine, and you go straight through his waist, and he just kind of like and just like two piles of ash. That's dead. Oh, did you see that? Yeah, bottle flip. So you still have your movement. Uh, what do I have? 40? You have 40 feet of movement.
SPEAKER_005, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01So you um well, do I want to be close to him? He doesn't want to be close to you. Oh, that's right. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 20. Um, ta-da. So he looks like you kind of lost sight of him and you just, you know. Start running at him. He didn't see anything. For all he knows, you killed him in that first hit. Um, he definitely didn't see the embarrassing six to twelve, twelve to six. Shenanigans. What did you roll? Uh so zombies have undead fortitude, which means that when they drop to zero, they have to make a saving throw, with the difficulty being five plus the damage taken. And the first time he rolled a natural 20, so he succeeded. And the second time he beat it by one. Oh my gosh, that's crazy. So twice in a row, he was just like, I'm done, I'm alive. So they come back at one hint point instead. But then the last one, one, it would probably have been it would have been too high, but two, if it's a critical hit, they can't save from it. Um, or if the damage is radiant, like holy damage, because they're zombies. But yeah, he just survived twice. That was what the first guy, the first hit, I was like, Oh, he failed. It's like what the heck? Um, but yeah, he was just like, Oh, I'm alive. Um, but yeah, you you kill that zombie, you like have lost sight of Eric, you go right where you saw him skidder away from, and he sees you, and he's like, You see on his face, he's like, Oh! And so he's not happy that you are all up in his space, but it is his turn. It is his turn. Um, so he is he looks desperate. You get up in his face, he's he starts just clawing at you. So he's gonna make two claw attacks against you. That is a 15 to hit. Dang it. And that is a 11 to hit, so he hits you with.
SPEAKER_00But my armor class is 14!
SPEAKER_01Well, yeah, so he only hits you with one. So that second one doesn't hit. Okay. But he does do five slashing damage to you, which means he does two. Because you have to. But doesn't he get it twice? Or no? Well, he didn't hit the second one. So he does two damage to you. Wow. Eric, you're doing something. Cool, go go go go go go go go. Um, and he is he ain't gonna run.
SPEAKER_00You ain't gonna run. I'm just gonna catch you. No, he can't. He's gonna catch you, buddy. Just gonna catch you. Just give me the staff, it'll all be over. Give me the silver staff. It's all over. I'll make it quick and painless. He is going out the head.
SPEAKER_01I head eye bar. Try to run away from you.
SPEAKER_00He can't.
SPEAKER_01I get a free hit. So he's gonna try, so you can try to hit him. Free hit? Yep, go ahead. Roll. Natural two. Twenty. No. No, it's not. What'd you roll? A two plus seven? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Nine.
SPEAKER_01So yeah. He like after he seizes attacks, didn't put you down, he turns and just like sprints away. You you know, swing and a miss, strike three.
SPEAKER_021520.
SPEAKER_01I mean, he he he basically knows from seeing how you run that he can't get away from you, but he's in like desperation, like, I cannot be in the same room as this person. Um, so he runs away. I chase. And you definitely you have more feet of movement than him. Attack. And all he sees is like this red right, red-eyed, raging, frothing at the mouth, barbarian, coming down at him with a Warhammer. What'd you roll your thirst deck?
SPEAKER_0010.
SPEAKER_01Total. So that one misses. You like are going too fast, you miss him and hit the wall behind him. 15. That one definitely hits. You can roll me some damage. Lamb. So that first attack, you were like running full tilt, you know, back. You're like 12 to 6 is gonna work this time. Um, and you just aim a little high, you think he's taller than he is, and you smash the wall behind him. It like embeds like a foot into the wall. He's like cowering in fear, and then you bring it up one more time, and the last thing his big eye sees is just this flat end of the war hammer as it just finally that 12-6 smash crunches him into the ground. Squished him, squished him real good. Um, and then as the dust settles Battlecry.
unknownYeah!
SPEAKER_01Battlecry! Yeah! Um and as the dust settles, you are just standing above this basically crushed corpse of this weird creature that you are pretty sure is um is Eric Silver. You don't know what he did or how he became this weird creature, but you know that he is dead. But you're now in this room. In this would you like to look out around this room a little more? Because the Ash zombies, they're just piles now. Um and uh let's see, let's see what we see. Okay, give me an investigation check. We're gonna see. We're gonna see what we see. We're gonna see what we see, mate.
SPEAKER_00We're gonna see what we see with a five. Six. Shut up. We're gonna see what we see. We're gonna see what we see. Oh. So 17.
SPEAKER_01I think I'm gonna go with the five. Um doan I get three chances? I'm in a frenzy. So, you start to look around the room. What's five plus one, so it's six? Well, I'll I'll just say it. I'll make sure to uh factor that into my calculations. Just in case I was like on the cusp of not seeing what I see. You were on the cusp of not seeing. So. Um, as you're looking through this room, it almost looks especially you kind of uh glean the fact that as soon as you touched any of his stuff, he like immediately reacted really hostily. You thought like you think maybe you could have talked to him, um, if you haven't fumbled your way into like touching some of his stuff. Um, but as soon as you started trying to steal what was his, um, he was mad. And as you look around, you can see that he was a lot of a like pretty much a hoarder. Like there's boxes, there's random trinkets everywhere. Nothing really that valuable. Um, at first glance, it's mostly just random garbage um that he seems to have collected. Uh, you don't know if that was the way he was in life or or in as a human or if it's just this weird state he's found himself in um that he started collecting stuff. But in your searching, you do find um you do find another one of uh a red potion like liquid. It doesn't look as big as the one you found upstairs, but uh it does look like a healing potion. Blood! And you also find um this staff. Yes! It's more like you you're not very good at searching, but this seems to be kind of placed in a little point of prominence, like it's on the table on like this little stand. And it's probably about you know five or six feet tall.
SPEAKER_02You shall know.
SPEAKER_01And on the top of the staff, it looks like there's kind of this dragon kind of curling around this red crystal. Nice. And um, from the description that you were given from the um Order of Magisters and Protectors, um, this is the the staff of Salinas Silva Tongue. Yes. Which apparently can control dragons. I am Ghaleesi! So, but Mother of Dragons. So you pick it up, and you can't you search for, you know, another hour or two, you don't really find anything because you're you're kind of bad at searching.
SPEAKER_00And plus drink my potion or am I saving it for later?
SPEAKER_01Well, and plus you're really tired. Like you just came out of a fringied rage. Oh, yeah. You just feel like that's right. I gotta rest. You just feel tired, you're exhausted. Um, you're like, I've completed my mission, I found this staff. Why do I need to search for anything else? I want my 200 gold. And I want to go control dragons. So for campaign number two. So you leave you leave the tower and you're making your way back. Um, you make camp on the way back, you are sitting by the fire, kind of, you know, admiring this staff you found. And as you're kind of sitting with it um for a little while, you kind of get a sense of what it does. And uh you're thinking, these guys are gonna be pretty disappointed because this does not control dragons. What? Um, you get the sense that this staff can summon a familiar, and that familiar is a pseudo-dragon or a drake. And you've seen drakes around, you've seen people have them as pets. They're kind of like, you know, small dog-sized little dragons. Not big dragons, they don't grow that huge. She's my friend. They're considered tiny dragons. Um, but so you're you have a thought, you're like, well, do I want to return this or are they gonna be mad? Uh, that they think I'm cheating them somehow. And so we don't know what you're gonna do. But you found out that this staff they were looking for doesn't be seem to be the staff that they thought of legend, and that it just summons a tiny little pet dragon. Maybe I need to collect them all. Ah, yes. All the staffs. The other staff. I will be Khaleesi. Um. But we leave you just sitting at the fire, as imagine like the end of the movie, zoom out, is just you sitting at the fire, you speak a word, and a little red dog-sized dragon starts jumping around. Sits on my shoulder. Sits on your shoulder. And you edit, can you edit a little dragon on my shoulder? Can you do that? No.
SPEAKER_00Man! Come on! Um, make one like walk across the table or something.
SPEAKER_01And as it zooms out, you know, you have a kind of a smile on your face as this dragon starts, you know, flying around the fire. And this is where the the end would go across the screen. Dot dot dot for now. For now. Yes. So congratulations. You've made it through that very badly run version of this game. I don't know if it was badly run. Well, I'm rusty. It was my first one, so. I'm rusty. I haven't done mana. I haven't done anything like DD related in a long time. So, there you go. There is your first adventure in DD. You've successfully found the staff to control dragons. And technically, it does. Just a very small one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, so yeah. Uh, I think the the story goes that uh Eric Silver, he was trying to find a way to become immortal, and through his experiments, one of them went wrong, and while he technically succeeded, that he has found himself in a state where he'll never die, he is this weird creature that he's deformed, and all of that stuff that you found in his basement was basically him trying to find anything that could turn him back to being a human. But yeah, he's um he's not in a good way. So yeah, that was Eric Silver, the tower's original owner, but he's kind of in this undying form. He's a Nothic. I know that doesn't mean anything to you, but it might mean something to other people. I apologize if I got any rules wrong. If I did, we just homebrewed him. That was a house rule. House rule. Hopefully, in the future, if we do these again, I'll be better. And you know, we might check out other uh systems because you know, I love Call of Cthulhu. We might play one of those. Um, but good job, Andrew, on your first DD experience. Thank you. Um, and we'll see you all next time. We'll see you.
