Yo yo yo, my smut smugglers. Happy Tuesday. I am Charlie. And I'm Danielle. Welcome to Smut Syndicate. Today we are celebrating. We did it. We finally made it to the end of a series. Yes, that's right.
SPEAKER_02We are talking about the Ruinous Love Trilogy by Quinn Quinn. Queen Bryn Weaver.
SPEAKER_01Specifically, Scythe and Sparrow. Really quick recap. We have book one, Butcher and Blackbird, two serial killers, Sloan, Sutherland, the Orb Weaver, and Rowan Kane, he's the Butcher of Boston. They're competing in a yearly game of murder to find out who's the better killer, and they end up murdering those feelings and fall in love.
SPEAKER_02And book two, Leather and Lark, we have folk singer Metalark Montague and Leatherworker slash killer for hire, Lachlan Kane. They hate each other, but they need to get married to save the ones they love. And during all that saving, they end up falling in love. Yes, they do. So all caught up. I gotta say that this is an interconnected standalone, but this book feels like Bryn's love letter to the readers. So do yourself a favor, read this entire series. Okay, now the warnings are out there. We are gonna spoil shit. Let's get into Scythe and Sparrow. So this book starts off before BB and Leather and Lark. We have Dr. Fionn Kane. He is the youngest and sweetest of the Kane brothers living out in Nebraska after running away from a broken heart in Boston. Yep. And then we've got uh the circus tarot reader, motorcycle stunt woman, all-around badass woman, Rose Evans, who also might partake in some nightly slashy activities.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And we start the book out. Rose is reading tarot cards at the circus. She's in her little tent. She's doing a reading for this woman whose husband's like the biggest dirtbag piece of shit you've ever met. And she knows that this is like an abused woman. And this shitbed, shithead piece of garbage, old man, diaper wearing husband, comes in and like drags her out.
SPEAKER_02Takes the frickin' money right off the table, like robs Rose. And so she goes up to like the magician's apprentice and is like, go get my money back from that guy and get that guy's fucking ID, and uh I'll give it to you and like give it to me in exchange for I'll get you all the ingredients for pina coladas.
SPEAKER_01Hell yeah. Rose goes to this woman's house after the circus. She goes, she's getting her groceries, pina colada ingredients, but she stops at this woman's house and sees that this shitty husband is outside, so she hits him with a baseball bat, but it doesn't go well. He gets the jump on her and he beats the fuck out of her. She is fighting for her life and she's like scrambling to get away in a true brain fashion. She just stabs the guy in the eye with cocktail sticks. Right? Like the skewers that you'd put in your drink. Disgusting.
SPEAKER_02I think picture it as being those ones that like the little plastic ones that look like a little sword.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I thought they were all like the umbrella ones.
SPEAKER_02So they'd like all just have like there's just like 14 umbrellas sticking out of his eye socket. Yeah, just horrible. And so he beat the shit out of her. Thankfully, she's able to like kind of pull herself away. She's got bones sticking out of her body.
SPEAKER_01Her outsides are on the inside.
SPEAKER_02And it's not even like she doesn't even like hobble to a car. She gets on a motorcycle. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's got a clutch. Your leg bone is sticking out, and you gotta rip away on a motorcycle.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just rip away. You're not getting very far. And so then we kind of flash over to Dr. Fioncain. He's out for a run, he's healthy, he's in shape, and he gets a notification that there's someone has like broken into his clinic and he rushes over there. He assumes it's somebody else, which we'll get to. Um, and it is Rose. She's all bloodied up and she needs help. And he takes her to the hospital, he gets her there, and he's like chatting with another like doctor, and she mentions a patient that came in with an eye injury. She had all these like cocktail sticks stuck in his eye. And weird he like kind of puts it together that it's this guy and that they were kind of like around each other because he's got like the cocktail like umbrellas in his eye, and she smells like pina colada, and he like goes through her belongings and she has the guy's ID in her pocket, and for whatever reason he doesn't turn her in.
SPEAKER_01He's like he just like puts two and two together and he's like, you know what I think should happen next. You should uh you should move in with me.
SPEAKER_02So her injury is bad, the bones were out of her body. Yeah, she's not gonna be a stunt woman with the circus, and the show must go on.
SPEAKER_01And she lives in a trailer, she lives named Dorothy.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So they like the her circus friends just kind of like drop her trailer off at this campground on the edge of town, and they're like, Bye, we gotta go. When you're better, when you're better, like you can come back, but like for now, yeah. It's not goodbye. It's I'll see you later.
SPEAKER_01But Fionn comes by and he's like, I've got your motorcycle. You left it on my property. Could you just take this? But he's like, and he's like, you know, obviously you can't get in and out of your trailer. You've got like the most fucked up leg. Just come to my house. I'll take I'll take real good care of you. Um, I'm a doctor. I'll brush your hair real pretty. Like the guy that you stabbed in the eye and busted your shit up. Yeah, he lives just. So maybe you should just come to my house because I'll protect you.
SPEAKER_02And like, girl, he's a hot Irish doctor. Yeah. Like, why are you fighting it? So I would be there without being invited.
SPEAKER_01I'd be like, I'd be like, actually, can we just like move my trailer to your house? Yeah, you help me. And I'll still live in there.
SPEAKER_02So we're married now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Like that's how relationships work. And she's just super awkward and really weird. And like you can tell that she's like kind of uncomfortable, but doesn't know how to change that about his. He's a normal person. And he is like a professional. Yeah. He's a doctor. He like has to have these like tough conversations with people all the time for a living. And they're just so polar opposite, but it works so well.
SPEAKER_02I love it so much because it's what each of them need to be perfect themselves. Um, and so she like moves into his house and she's like, hey, you know, I gotta have like you're essentially letting a criminal live in your house, just so you know. I stabbed a man in the eye with cocktail umbrellas. Like, I just want you to know. And she ends up like telling him, like, this is what happened. And Fionn like sees red. And you know, it's like funny, because if this happened to me and someone had this conversation with me, I'd be like, Yeah, I don't know what you thought. Like, fuck around and find out. When you hit someone with a bat, there's always a chance they could hit you with this bat.
SPEAKER_01What would you like me to do with this information?
SPEAKER_02Like, I feel bad for you, but I feel this bad for you. Yeah, like it's fine.
SPEAKER_01She's gonna stay with him, everything's gonna be okay.
SPEAKER_02Right? Yeah, and so when in his like black rage, he calls big bro Luckley Kane who has you know access to information and is like, hey, let me know everything that you have on this Matt Cromwell guy. And we find out like he was a cop, but he was let go for like doing naughty naughty stuff. We find out where he lives. We find out like that he's had these complaints against him, and Fionn's like, you know what? I'm gonna take justice into my own hands. And he goes to his house and he's like, the guy's out there, he's like working on the barn, whatever. And Fionn picks up like a wrench and is gonna beat this man with it. And his son like runs out and he's like, Wow, maybe I shouldn't like murder this guy in front of his child. Yeah. He's like, That's nice of him. I'll just wander off.
SPEAKER_01And just like slowly backs away into the bushes, pulls a homer service out of there.
SPEAKER_02She's like, Ooh, my bad. That almost got real crazy. And he kind of like thinks in his head, he's like, I became a doctor to write some wrongs. Like, ooh, Batman origin story.
SPEAKER_01Fionn has daddy issues. Yeah. Because when he was thinking about killing Cranwell, he it was because it reminded him of his dad. Yeah. And I just this is something that I think about a lot when I when I read this book again. Could you imagine having the Kane brothers in your life in any capacity at all? The resources that you'd have access to, nobody would ever even be able to like look at you the wrong way again because you have one of them that's like a serial killer. You have another one that's a contract killer slash cleaner.
SPEAKER_02You've got a chef, you've got a doctor, you've got a leather worker. You could have so many leather crochet, they can literally accomplish everything. Everything. And they're like funny and Irish. And Irish. Yeah. It would be game over for me. Did she are these real men? Bryn, do you know these guys? Do you have numbers? Um hit me because I would like to shit. Um, so then, okay, we kind of like fast forward. She has like, I've never broken anything, so I don't understand how this stuff works.
SPEAKER_01This is probably one of the most inconsistent things about this book. There's no way you're getting in an accident to the point that your bone is sticking out of your leg and you're just like, no, let me just go for a little hobble.
SPEAKER_02They like team, like she loses one cast and then gains a new cast. I don't understand the system of casts. This is not within my wheelhouse. This is why I'm not someone's first call. But uh, Rose is now well enough to like hobble around. She's got crutches, she's around town, and she overhears this asshole, Eric, giving the fucking biz to his girlfriend on the phone. And the girlfriend is like one of the nurses that she met at the hospital when she was gonna be.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she gave her a tarot reading while she was in the hospital with her, with her boo-boo leg.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and was like basically the tarot reading kind of like told her, like, yo, I know your boyfriend treats you like shit. Like, this guy sucks. You should like for the show. You should let me kill him. You should let me kill him for it. I would love to help you with this problem. Yes, let me kill him. Just let the sparrow take care of it, okay? The guy's like total douchebag. Like he catches like Rose looking at him and he's like, Hey, baby, you ready to potty? And we can hear him like kind of giving the shit to his girlfriend.
SPEAKER_01And he straight up calls her Naomi over the phone. A fucking you're a stupid fucking idiot, and then is threatening to share her naked photos. Yes. Why are you calling me on the phone? I'm gonna saw your dick off with a butter knife. Whoa. Like, do not plastic butter knife. A plastic a spork. I'm gonna spork your dick off.
SPEAKER_02And so she's like, you know what? I always say I'm gonna do something. Let me just do something. So she fucking dolphin jumps into the back of his fucking truck, like just tosses one crutch. And just hides in the back of his truck, pulls this dirty blanket, and is like, I feel like this is fine. And like, holy fuck is she gutsy. I I dare you to break into someone unsuspecting person's vehicle. Yeah, with a broken leg that I'm like just freshly murder the person, but I would love for you to tell me the story of you breaking into someone's car and how awkward, like, how are you controlling your breathing? You're when you like play hide and go seek and you're like giggling. How are you just laying in the back with a fucking big ass knife being like, I'm sure this will work out fine?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's not gonna notice. He gets in the truck, he's he drives away. He's like drinking, he's gotta crush in a couple beers while he drives. Road beers. And she's still hiding in the backseat, they're cruising around, and her cell phone starts ringing. So she is busted. And I think it was like a song, too. Yeah, it's like feeling Here Comes the Doctor or something like that.
SPEAKER_02Like, love it.
SPEAKER_01So she pops up and she yells, Ta-da, motherfucker. And obviously, he's freaking out because some chick is in the back of his truck and dreams off the road, and she just like dabs him in the throat.
SPEAKER_02Are you crazy? Yeah, are you crazy? Yanks it out. Blood is fucking spraying everywhere. It's spraying on the inside of the vehicle, it's spraying on her, and she's like, and just starts like throwing.
SPEAKER_01So she's puked all over as a person. She's puked all over the inside of the truck. Everything is covered in blood. This guy's not dead yet, but he's bleeding out. There's like a super steep bank and then like a cliff into like a river, and she's like, Okay, perfect. I'm just gonna hop out, I'll start throwing my shit out. She's tossing her crutches out of the window, and she's gonna just hop on out. She's like, Gotta run. And then the truck slows down and stops before the drop. And he's just like slumped over. And she's like, and there's still all of her DNA in the vehicle with a dead guy with his throat pretty much.
SPEAKER_02And she's like, um, she calls up Fionn and is like, hey, I require assistance.
SPEAKER_01I'm literally just a girl, and I just really need you to come out.
SPEAKER_02Send you a pin. I'm not able to do stuff. And he shows up and he's like, so what the fuck? Like you killed somebody, hey? And she's like, Yeah, you said like if I was in trouble. And he's like, I don't know. I thought you meant like a ride or something. Like, I didn't mean like body disposal. And she's like, Well, come on, like, just have a beer, like, we're good.
SPEAKER_01Nobody knows we're out here, it's fine.
SPEAKER_02So he's like, Oh, fuck, you know what? She got me in that one. She did. I did say anything.
SPEAKER_01Anything.
SPEAKER_02And anything means anything. Right. So he's like, Okay, we gotta get rid of this guy. We gotta get rid of like these problems. And he's like, we gotta get into his phone and make sure. I I don't know why they needed to be in.
SPEAKER_01She was showing him why she killed him. Yeah, she's like, let me explain to you what piece of shit this guy is. Look at his phone. Look at how many women he's cheating on Naomi with, and look at the messages murder, and look at the messages he's been sending and the way he talks to other women. Like he's a dirtbag, he had to die.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And so this is a warning to everybody who uses the like face ID because they needed his eyes open.
SPEAKER_01If you get murdered and somebody needs to get into your phone, this is what's gonna happen. They're gonna staple your eyelids open. And they're gonna make you have a fake smile.
SPEAKER_02Yes, make hold your face so that you smile so that your phone, your face ID opens. Staple gun. Hate it, hate it so much. Oh they like they get into his phone and she's like, see, and he's like, Oh, you know what? That does justify homicide. Like, all right. And he's like, Oh, I know Naomi, I work with her. Like, that's a good girl. What a fucking dick. She's a good girl. He deserved murder. So they like let the air out of the tires or something like that, put her in drive, push her off over the edge, yeah, drive it off the edge. Like, I'm sure that's fine. And then drive out of town and just huck the guy's phone in the other direction. Which, okay, cool. And we like, Fion's like in his f in his head about this, and he's like, Oh my god, I've done it again. Like, I was the one who murdered my pops. Yeah. And like, I'm just back at it again. I'm back to my own. And he like, when they get back to the house, he's like snooping through like Rose's room, and she's got like all these beautiful plants in it, and it's like well loved, and he's like kind of reading through this like cards and stuff like that, and it's from all of these women that are like calling her the sparrow, and he's like kind starts to kind of realize, like, okay, like she might be murdering people, but like maybe they fucking deserved it, and she's also been like helping people, yeah. Well, she's been murdered, she murders because she cares. She murders because she cares. She murders because she cares. And then we're kind of like we hear a little bit of like Fion's backstory. He's like talking about this chick Claire, which, if you remember, she was the bitch who broke his heart and the one who almost got her face cut the fuck up by Lark for making little laffy-laffy dresses. For making a move on Lachlan, yeah, and basically he had like proposed to her. This was kind of like why he ran away from Boston. He proposed to her and she turned him down.
SPEAKER_01He is a six foot four, yeah, fully jacked Irishman who is a doctor. Yeah. Claire, get your fucking head checked.
SPEAKER_02You're an idiot. You're an idiot. She's like, he was just boring.
SPEAKER_01There really no recovery from a fumble like that. Also, like his have you met his family? Right? Try and get one of the brothers.
SPEAKER_02Like work on it. Um, so then we get to meet fucking Barbara. Yeah, Fionn gets another intrusion line for the clinic. And it's a codeine addicted raccoon. Yeah. Which how did she figure out that he had the drugs in the how does she keep getting in?
SPEAKER_01How does she keep getting in? Why does she keep going for the drugs?
SPEAKER_02And so they're like trying to like catch this like fucking trash panda. Yeah. And in walks Matt, the guy who got his eyes just jacked fuck up. And he like knocks on the door and he's like, hey, like, I know I saw your light on, and I was wondering if you could look at my empty eye socket. Yeah. And uh let me know what you think. Do you think it's gonna grow back? Yeah. Is this is this okay? Is this a problem? There's still an umbrella here. Is that an issue? I can't see well past the umbrella. I'm just curious about how much. Should I remove it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, do I add another one? So Fionn tells Rose, like, go hide now. Matt's here. And uh Doc tells Matt, like, your eye's healing fine. I'll get you some prescription pain medications. And all of a sudden, Matt's like, you know what, Doc, it's it's good. I like this umbrella. Just, you know, just watch your back.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I know, I know about like the woman that you're living with who has like a broken leg, and it's like, he's like real hard up about this chick with a broken leg. That's it. He just never lets it go. He just can't let it go. And so then we find out that Fionn has a nighttime job. He fixes up boxers in this like barnyard boxing league. Just so random.
SPEAKER_01I love it. I love it. I want to go to one of these things. It seems like such a small town Nebraska thing to just be like, I'm a doctor, but also at night double at night as like, yeah.
SPEAKER_02But also, like everybody in town is like friends with each other, but on Wednesdays we beat the absolute fuck out of each other. But like, hey Bob, so can you still give me a ride after? Yeah. I love people who can fight and do these things, but then after don't hold like grudges because I there's no way I could fight somebody in the street and then have them after. No, we're not friends anymore. I hate you now. I hate you forever. Yeah. Like, okay, like, no, I'm not cool. And so Rose shows up at this thing, and again, this is where we see like how different they are. Like, he's been living in this small town for a few years. He does not know anybody. Everybody knows him. Like, he hasn't really, aside from like who his patients are, he really hasn't taken the time to meet anyone. And he's like, Hey, what the fuck are you doing here? And it's like, oh, Larry brought me. Oh, I'm here to watch Bill's fight. Oh, I'm here to and she knows like where they live, who they are, who they're dating. And he's like, You've been here for like a minute and a half. Yeah, like three weeks.
SPEAKER_01How do you know everyone?
SPEAKER_02How do you know everyone? And they all know her, and they're all like buddy buddy, and it just it's so great, like, because she's so like outgoing, and you know, she's just gonna like help him get out of his fucking shell. Yeah, like I just ugh. And it's fine.
SPEAKER_01Like, she just killed a guy, she tried to kill another guy, and it's not like she needs to like lay low or anything.
SPEAKER_02No, no, no, no, no, no, no. We're gonna just go ahead and mingle, meet everybody, post like post photos of your ID, like make sure that they have your information.
SPEAKER_01They need to know it.
SPEAKER_02So while this like this little fight is going on, uh, somebody bumps into Rose and they knock her like off the stool. She's like, Oh my god, it's fine, and Fion just blacks out. You don't like that, and he just beats the shit out of the main fighter. He's like all bloody and like just like territorial, like love it. Absolutely love it for a woman that he's known for three weeks.
SPEAKER_01And everyone's like cheering, like, protector, whoops. I would I think that I would want to be him in that situation. Like, I want people to cheer for me while I beat the shit out of somebody.
SPEAKER_02Okay, well, I'll cheer for you, but like, why don't you just like fight a tree or something?
SPEAKER_01No, because then people think you're on drugs. If I'm beating somebody up, if I'm like defending somebody's honor, if somebody pushed you off a stool at a bar, because we go to bars all the time. All the time, every time I'm gonna I'm gonna pay someone to push off a chair and then I'm gonna beat them up, and then I'm the whole bar is gonna cheer for me. It'll be people trying to like pull you off.
SPEAKER_02Oh calling the pups, and there's just me. Woo! You know what? For your birthday, it's coming up. It is. I'll write this down. Perfect. This is all I'm asking for. There you go, guys. It's a bar fight. So then we're in Nebraska, and we get the part of Butcher and Blackbird where Rowan and Sloan show up. Yep. And this is after they just fucked up Harvey Mead. Yeah. Basically gave him a heart attack to death. This is when they show up at Fionn's to fix her. And after they've been together for three years, four years. On and off. Yeah. And they finally bang. And it's this part is so cute because Rowan like goes up to Fionn and he's like, hey, bro, like I've been pining after my girl for like four years. You have this chick living in your house. Do not be dumb. Low hanging fruit. Don't be dumb. Yeah. Just get it in. Just get it in. Love her. She wants you to love her. Fionn spirals. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because he obviously he wants to bang Rose so bad. And now his brother is in his house having the fucking night of his life. Yeah, pretty much. They have.
SPEAKER_02To listen to it, yeah. And so on the next day, like once they leave, like, okay, thanks for visiting. Bye. Thanks for like fucking up our house with all that sex. Um, he like approaches Rose and he's like, Hey, so like I'm not really looking for a relationship, like, I'm just looking for sex. And he's like, Oh my god, did you hear them last night?
SPEAKER_01Are you as horny as I am? Because, like, if we could just get this out of our system, but we're not allowed to kiss, we're not allowed to hold hands, we're not allowed to sleep together, cuddle, we can't, like, we give fuck.
SPEAKER_02You guys aren't children, yeah. Grow up. Like, you're both doctor, man. Yeah, you're a doctor. You went to school for like years. Yes. Grow up. Grow up. We know you're gonna fall. Just put it in her, just do it. And so they start banging a lot. And this one, they've got a fucking cum kink. Both of them.
SPEAKER_01This book. This is where it kind of you had me and then you lost me.
SPEAKER_02And then you get me again, and then the Especially because there's no accidental pregnancy. What is the point of this book if there's no accidental pregnancy?
SPEAKER_01She just needs to be covered in you.
SPEAKER_02There's just buckets everywhere.
SPEAKER_01It's just he's got a bucket that he fills, and then that like show from the time for your shower. That show from the 90s where they dump the goo. Uh-oh. It's like a game show that only the two of them play. It's just his cum buckets.

SPEAKER_02People sit on this couch. Like, do you have cum towels where you're like, okay, we're getting wet and wild in here. Get the shitty towel. Get the dog slip. Slip and slide out back. SPEAKER_01And so now you know. It's a wet chapter. The rest of the sex chapters are very wet, also. If you like wetness, wet and moisture. It's for you.
SPEAKER_02Liquids, this is the book for you. Yeah. So then we get to the part in the book where the butcher and blackbird restaurant is being opened. Yep. This is also where in Leather and Lark, where that book really started. And this is kind of where, like, the point of this book again, like these certain chapters, especially where they cross over, I think they're just an extra gift for the fans. So this is a whole book series.
SPEAKER_01Is a gift to us, right?
SPEAKER_02It really is. Because did we need that chapter? Not really, but it just gives you like that extra little bit. So they go to Boston, shit happens, and Fionn kind of explains like his the fears of his darkness, and he's worried about like Rose getting hurt because of him. And then they come back to Nebraska.
SPEAKER_01Like you beat a guy up, and it was hot. Like I'm cool with it. Bro, I slip a guy. Like I am a circus freak. Yeah. I slit people's throats and then I throw up. Honey badger don't give a fuck.
SPEAKER_02Like, that's I ain't judging the judgment free zone. So after they come back home and Rose is all healed up and she's like, okay, well, you know, he didn't really tell me like to stay or anything. So I guess it's fucking time to go. And shocker shocker, here's Matt again. Just can't fucking stay away. He's like, hey, did you know that they found Eric's truck? Oh, they're still looking for his body. Like, I wonder, do you know where it is?
SPEAKER_01And he's gotta be like watching her because she's in the hospital for her like final checkup to be like, yeah, you're good, right? Like and of course he's there. Get the fuck away from me. And he asks her if she knows anything about Eric's death because he was also attacked a while back. But he tells Rose, don't worry, like I hit her back. And Rose fucking straight up says to him, Oh, yeah, I bet you had uh a lot of practice with that. Like you oh, he's the worst. But he tells her, like, he's at the hospital visiting his wife because she fell. Like you piece of shit. And you're like breaking all dick, loser hillbilly.
SPEAKER_02You beat your wife and children. But also, you're like alluding to this woman that you know she's killed like a whole bunch of men. Yeah, you got some good shit. And you keep you keeping what more do you I feel like uh the loss of an eye, I'd be like, maybe I'll change my life. Maybe I'll change my ways.
SPEAKER_01That would do it for you.
SPEAKER_02You'd stop beating your wife and children if you very little things, very uh small inconveniences would make me reconsider my life. Like I'm sure I'm weak, like I am not strong in my personality, I will change. Um, and so then Rose is like, I gotta stay away from Fionn. Like they both just tell each other. Um, so she's like, I'm going to the circus. Peace out, homie. And she's like, see me, you know, come visit when you visit. So it's a flash forward a month later. Fionn's like, Oh my god, I'm gonna go get it in. I got my buckets, we're ready. Yeah, I've been saving these up. I've been saving these buckets. He goes to visit Rose, he gets there and he fucking looks over and there's that goddamn raccoon with her, and he's like, uh, Barbara's here? Like, what's going on? It's like, yeah. When I was leaving, I saw her trying to break in, and I figured, you know what? Why not get a drug-addicted fucking rodent and put this bitch in my house? She doesn't belong anywhere else, right?
SPEAKER_01She belongs with you.
SPEAKER_02The place for her. So he like knocks, he, you know, he like kind of comes early, so he like surprises her and he knocks on the door and he's like, hey, honey, I'm home. And there is a guy in her trailer running on her treadmill, and he's like, he's just like because he's such a sweet, innocent baby. He's like, Oh, you know what? Like that kind of sucks, but like we weren't exclusive. So like I guess I'll just fucking I'll come back later when you guys are done. And she's like, Oh, no, no, no, no, no. Um, I drugged him. Like a lot of drugs, a lot of drugs, like I'm just waiting for him to be dead to die. And I told him to like run on the treadmill and beat my like high score record, whatever the fuck that means, and I'll let him fuck me in the ass. So we're just kind of waiting for something to happen.
SPEAKER_01This part is like one of Loki is one of the funniest parts of this book. It is so underappreciated. It's just so well. She drugged him to the point that if he exerted himself, he should die of a heart attack. And they're basically just watching this. Which Chad also tells me she is growing as a person. She knows she can't handle gore, she can't handle blood. So she's like, okay, I gotta still kill people, but I gotta do it in a way that it's not gonna make me throw up a better way.
SPEAKER_02So she's like, you know, why don't you just give us a minute? Like, go just take a couple laps and he's like out in the campground, like taking a couple laps, and like, hey, there's like hurdles, like jump them. And he jumps and he eats shit and he impales his brain on the fence and just explodes, essentially.
SPEAKER_01He impales his own face on like the pointy part. And uh again, Bryn, where do you get your where do you get your death material? Yes. How did you come up with that? What kind of TV are you watching at night? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02What's your search history? I am very curious. It's great. Don't stop. I love it. I'm just curious. Yeah. Then we get like he gets his little reward, I guess, for helping her murder this guy, fix this problem. And they have like a primal play, but it's like in the circus, and Fionn catches her, and his reward is her booty hole. I just, you know. Good for them. She's just offering it out to everybody. Whoever the fuck wants it. First, first guy to show up is the one who gets it. And this like scene is diabolical. It is, it really is. There is like butt stuff, there is butt plugs, there's cotton candy.
SPEAKER_01A circus colored themed plug in her ass. And they're in like a booth, it's the cotton candy booth. So he's like fucking yoinks it out of her, rinses it off, and then they're like, you know what would be great? Let's uh turn the cotton candy machine on, and we can we can have cotton candy while we do anal. And she was like, Oh yeah, great. So like turn it on, but they don't have like the stick to put the cotton candy on. She's like, you know what? What about that thing that was just up my ass? Yeah. What about that? You just like gave it a little and like scrubbed it off, it's good to go. So they make cotton candy on her butt plug. Yeah, and she eats cotton candy off of the plug that was in her ass while they're doing analysis.
SPEAKER_02Every time I read a book, I have less faith in food that other humans are preparing.
SPEAKER_01You don't want to eat food from other people, especially little circus freaks who are eating cotton candy off of their own butt plugs. I don't like it. Don't do it.
SPEAKER_02I don't like it. It's weird. Um, so then we like fast forward a year later. Now we have Rowan and Sloane's wedding, which is just so cute. He's still like keeping her plants alive in the room and like they're keeping their love alive. And um Fion has now upgraded to instead of just like doctoring with the boxers, he is fighting people like how you got some rage.
SPEAKER_01You gotta take it out somewhere, right?
SPEAKER_02And he's like realizing he's like, you know what? I think I actually might like Rose. Maybe I want to be with her. I think I like her and her we find out that Rose is living in Boston because Lachlan's not at his house, so he's got some spare space, and Rowan's offering her a job, like working at the restaurant. So they're both kind of like they're having this like divine intervention where they're both like, I should go.
SPEAKER_01Everything is aligning for them to be too. Right?
SPEAKER_02Well, and also like your friends are there, you know three people in the world, and they all live in Boston. Just move to freaking Boston.
SPEAKER_01But he can't because he had his feelings hurt that one time, right? That girl by that mean bitch.
SPEAKER_02So we have um feeling boxing. Yeah, he's boxing. Matt ends up again. This guy just can't stay away off. He comes up and he's like, hey, like, you know, do you think that Matt put up a fight or Eric put up a fight when Rose killed? Like, bro. We get it. He's dead. Okay.
SPEAKER_01We get it. You're the only person who still remembers him.
SPEAKER_02Nobody else, nobody cares. Nobody cares. And we find out that like his wife and kids like dipped on him. Like, that's probably why he can't just let it go, because things are not going well for him. He has one eye. You beat your wife and children, and they left. He has no job.
SPEAKER_01He's a drunk. You don't get to say shit about anything, you one-eyed loser hillbilly. Horrible.
SPEAKER_02No. So Fion's like, okay, well, great story, Matt. Thanks so much, appreciate it. I'm gonna go visit my bae in Boston, and my fam is there, so it's been a slice. Yeah, I got a piece out. She's working at this like fright fair. She's waiting, she knows like Fionn's coming to visit, and she's like reading her tarot deck, she's got her cool like clown like gestures.
SPEAKER_01She's dressed as like a hot version of the terrifier or the clown, and she's got like her fake teeth in.
SPEAKER_02Horrible. The thing of nightmares. And it's like really hot, but also terrified. Yeah, the thing of nightmares. And so her and like Fiona's like, hey, I'm here. Like, I'll see you in a bit. She's like, love that. Awesome. I'll text you 30 minutes before I'm done, and you can come pick me up. Guess who else freaking drove up for the night? Matt, who just he just couldn't stay away. And he's like, hey, like, so since I have nothing else going on in my life, I realize I've like put it together. You have killed like 10 to 20 guys, and I know all about Eric and blah blah blah blah. I know about things, okay? I know. People have told me shit. Yeah. And so he like lunges after her. They're like fighting through the fairgrounds. She gets a drop on him and yells her, ta-da, motherfucker, line again. Yeah. And at one point she like hits him so hard in the head that like his other eye pops out, or maybe the fake eye. And I'm a good eye. An eye has left his body. Like he it, I hate it. And then she's like still like gagging, and like this would literally like be me as I I don't like stuff like this.
SPEAKER_01I am not a fan of people's insides being on the outsides anywhere near me, especially if they're wet.
SPEAKER_02Oh god. I never thought about wet.
SPEAKER_01Dry insides, I think I can handle wet insides.
SPEAKER_02I want none of that. I don't want liquids in this. And thankfully, Fionn shows up and we get like the most like this is where he goes from like, I am the sweet, innocent brother, to like I am the brother who fucking killed me dad.
SPEAKER_01And then guts Matt and then gives us this one.
SPEAKER_00Help? You want someone to help you?
SPEAKER_02Fionn shakes his head.
SPEAKER_00Do you really think I would ever, ever let you threaten her and walk away? You seriously think you could hurt her and I would just let you live? You don't deserve mercy. When have you ever given that to anyone else? So the only thing I'll give to you is suffering.
SPEAKER_02Love it. Raw. Right? Next. And he basically like fucking skewers him to the wall. Like stabs him.
SPEAKER_01Shish kebab's mat into the wall of the haunted hand. It's it's love it. Um, and if that isn't a great segue into your first kiss, because remember, it's just sex. We're not allowed to hold hands or PDA or cuddle. If that's not like what's gonna make you kiss somebody and fall in downtown love, I don't know what it's.
SPEAKER_02There's nothing for it. Like you're just you're you're broken. You can't be fixed.
SPEAKER_01And then because she literally cannot have a crime scene without contaminating it with some type of bodily fluid. They bang. They fucking right next to his body. You know what this scene could use? Some cum. Some cum. Like a whole lot of it. Buckets. Can you just watch him make sure nobody comes in here? I just gotta run to my car. I got a couple buckets to bring up. I got buckets. I got don't worry, I got stuff. I'll deal with this. It's okay though. They're in the haunted house. So, like, just a dead body pinned to the wall kind of just adds to like the ambiance. So, like, isn't this why you guys came to those nighttime circus? Like, hello? This is like the Bryn Weaver equivalent of any other vanilla romance writer. Just like, oh, and then he lit a unscented candle. He put the purple bubble back off. Yeah. And then we had missionary with eye contact. That's the Bryn Weaver equivalent. It's like we fucked next to a dead guy that we tag team killed.
SPEAKER_02Percent. Yeah. And so then he's like, for whatever reason, he's like, girl, I got you. I could fix this problem. You go home, pour a bath, I see you in a bit.
SPEAKER_01I'll be there when I get there.
SPEAKER_02And he calls fucking Leander Maze to help him fix this problem.
SPEAKER_01Just a quick reminder, Leander was the one playing human dartboard in Lark. Yeah. Leather and Lark. And he's Lachlan's was Lachlan's boss. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Horrible. Horrible, twisted little snively mat. He's icky.
SPEAKER_01He shows up. He unshish kebabs Matt from the wall. Matt's intestines fall out. And Leander's like, you know what'd be so good right now? A hot dog. Fucking hot dog, yeah. He makes he makes Fion cook him a hot dog because the intestines made him hungry. This is so gross.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I hate him. And so basically they come to an arrangement where he's like, I clean this problem. You're gonna be my doctor for like, I think he's like a year, a few months, whatever. And he's like, okay, cool. And they agree. And then he's like, so we leave for Croatia tomorrow. And he's like, uh, pardon?
SPEAKER_01You didn't tell me that when I made the deal.
SPEAKER_02And he's like, Yeah, um, I don't know. Sorry, you should have like thought about that. You should have asked me more details or whatever. And he's like, also kind of like tells him, like, I don't want you explaining to your brothers where you're going, and you cannot have any stragglers following behind you. So that little situation with Rose, you're gonna have to like deal with her. Like, make sure that she doesn't fucking come with you.
SPEAKER_01How has no one killed Leanne? I know these guys, there are six. Yeah, six of them are very capable murderers. Yeah. How have none of them taken him on? Somebody kill him. Just Lark has successfully drugged him unconscious multiple times.
SPEAKER_02You didn't think there's maybe like a muffin batch, just up it a little bit more. Yeah, just something, guys. And so then, of course, instead of telling Rose that he loves her and he wants to be with her, he just breaks it off and he doesn't really tell her why. We then get the part in Leather and Lark, like, so okay, so Rose is all upset. He told me, like, he, you know, I fuck, I was gonna move to fucking Boston. I guess I'm not like fuck. And she's like goes to have a chat with like Lark and Sloan and talk to them about whatever's happening. And we get the part in Leather and Lark where Lark is taken and they get the call from Lachlan that they're like, something happened. I need you to meet me at the apartment, and they get there and Lachlan Bentley has been hurt, and he's like, Save that fucking dog. Yeah. And Rose looks at Fionn and she's like, I love you. I'm gonna go save your sister. But I gotta go save Lark. I gotta go save Lark. Yeah. And this is the part in like kind of a little refresher. This is the part where um we have like she's been kidnapped, she's put into the batch, the muffin batch ovens, and it's kind of like a little Batman y thing where it's like Abe Midas, a crazy religious nut, tossed her in there and says to Lachlan, You can either save her or you can save your brother and Sloane because I put a bomb on the bottom of their car. So that's fun. Yeah. And he thankfully chooses to save her, and the other ones were fine. It's fine.
SPEAKER_01And Rose is fucking little badass. She shoots Abe in the head. Yeah. And in the scuffle leading to her killing him, she gets basically stabbed with like a pipe, and it's in her like abdomen and liver, fian spiraling, because he's like, you know, I should have told you that I loved her. Rose that I loved her. Now she's dying. Maybe not. Like, we're just everybody's really dramatic.
SPEAKER_02She's like, I killed Dodd. Like, oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I was the one that ran him out to the drug dealers, and keeps happy. I was the one that stabbed him in the back.
SPEAKER_02So and of course, like, so they're taking her to the hospital, and Leander being the dick that he is, is like, homeboy. I don't care if she lives or dies. Yeah. You I rescheduled your plane to Croatia. You're gonna be on it, and like, because otherwise, I'm releasing all the information that I have on everybody else to the FBI. Like, shit's gonna get you shook my hand. We had a deal.
SPEAKER_01You promised. Yeah, you told me you were gonna come to Croatia with me.
SPEAKER_02You promised. And Sloane shows up at the hospital and kind of like she knows that he's leaving, and she knows that he's going to Croatia, even though he hasn't told anybody. She just knows stuff. She just knows. She's just smart. She's the smartest female character in the whole stuff. 100%. That's why she knows shit. Yeah. And she hands him this piece of paper that has this P.O. box in Croatia and is like, if you send me stuff, I will make sure that Rose gets it. Yeah. And I'll keep it safe.
SPEAKER_01No one's gonna know. Keep it secret. Keep it safe. It's a secret. Yeah. And I just what a great friend. Right? I hope that if you know, if I ever have to go to Croatia. That I'll give you a P.O. box. That you give me a P.O. box to send love letters to people. Because to the man that never said, I love you back to me after I killed multiple guys around him. That you just you look at them and you go, I love you.
SPEAKER_02And then you run out the door.
SPEAKER_01But it's okay, because he's gonna grace us with um a a love letter. Yes. And that's like the equivalent.
SPEAKER_02Well, and so Sloane's basically like, Kay, I know you gotta go right away. Say what you gotta say now, because like your plane's leaving. Yeah. And so he, you know, it's it's actually so cute. Like he talks about like how he should have like told her, and you know, she's like even tougher. Like Asparrow's not even a really good name for her because she's like even tougher. Honestly, this is where Fionn is like such a sweet and gentle baby. Like the last part of this book where he's like writing these is just so Rose is out of the hospital, she's back with the circus, she knows that Fion saved her life. She has a note from him, you know, kind of saying that he cares about her, blah blah blah, but she doesn't know where he is, why he left, when the hell he's gonna get back. He's just gone. Nobody knows what happened to him. And she gets this letter that is addressed to mayhem, her, at uh in Dorothy at the Sylveria Circus in Texas. And it's from a secret admirer, and the address is nowhere without you. Oh, it's just so cute. And pretty much every week he sends her a letter with a tarot card, and he explains what each of those tarot cards means to him, but it's basically their love story.
SPEAKER_01Which could you imagine? Could you imagine somebody putting in that kind of effort to like learn your language?
SPEAKER_02Effort.
SPEAKER_01Everyone. Well, and to like time.
SPEAKER_02He's gotta like tie he has to figure out where the circus is going. He has to get this book and like understand these tarot cards. He has to write each of these letters. And he also like explains, like, um, just so you know, like one time, the first time I saw you perform, like you didn't even know I was there. I just drove for like 13 hours, watched your badass self, and then fucking scurried away. And like, you know, I've been thinking this about you, and I've like honestly, it is it's just like a chapter of just like love. Like so in love.
SPEAKER_01But it took him having to be like shipped away to Croatia to like tell his feelings. He's he's sad, he's been hurt before. And you know what? That's fine. That's fine. We're learning, we're growing, we're loving. Okay. We jump, what, nine months later? Yeah, nine months later. The leader of the circus lets her know basically that Fionn asked for you to have time off to come and see him. You guys are gonna be in there. Also, like, girl, you're so you're fucking dragging us down. Yeah, your heart is not in the circus anymore. Nobody likes it. And if you don't want it anymore. If you don't want to be here, you don't have to. Like, we're gonna understand. Everyone's gonna really be supportive of that. Like, you're dragging the mood down. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02The vibes are off. The vibes are off. And he hands her this like final letter from Fiona and it's like it, it's like, hey, I'm gonna meet you at this spot, which again he like timed it. It's like where the circus was ending for the season. I'm gonna be at this place, and like I'm just going to wait every day until you show up. And so cute. She shows up and they like decide to be together, obviously.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she's just like give him her time over at first. And he's like freaking out, he's shooting his pants over seeing her again. Appropriate. And she's just like, hmm. Well, maybe. I guess. Maybe. But he leaves one card from the tarot deck to give to her in person, and it's the lover's card. I love it so much.
SPEAKER_02And she accepts it, and then she has all of her responses that she has written to him from every card and letter that he has given her. Yes. And like the ending, it's just it's so cute because they like move into Dorothy together, her, which is her trailer, and they just like drive and go on adventures, but they also like stay in Boston because he wants to be near his brothers, and she wants to be near Sloane and Lark, and that's it.
SPEAKER_01And that's how it ends. And that's how it's so happy. It's so happy. And Matt is dead. And Matt is dead. He finally cannot come around anymore, being like so. I heard that you killed somebody. Yeah. I heard that uh you fought a guy named Eric and then maybe killed him.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And so this book, though, it does have two epilogues, which obviously you need to read. Yes. The only reason why we're not going to go into the epilogues is because epilogue one is kind of leads into Love and Other Killers, which is Brynn's novella.
SPEAKER_01And it's so good.
SPEAKER_02It's so good. You need to read it.
SPEAKER_01You can read it in a minute, and it'll bring you so much happiness just to have the whole gang back together again.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And it's just funny, and like they all have their little animal sidekicks there, and it just I just love it. And then you have the second epilogue, which leads into her new series, Tourist Season. Yes. Which I cannot wait to see how that series continues.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I agree. And that is the Ruinous Love series. Honest to God, I think that this trilogy is probably one of my favorites of all time.
SPEAKER_03Wow.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I would also, yeah, yeah. Which one of the books was your favorite?
SPEAKER_01Uh B and B, for sure. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's B and B. Yeah. It has to be. It it was the first time that I really I put in super, super high like regard banter. That is, if something has really good banter, if something has like, especially for a dark romance to have like jokes as well. You know, because you can find banter in like a regular romance book, and you can find kind of like wit, maybe not great, but you can find it. And the shit that was happening in book one was like I think it was the first book that I read that I laughed out loud multiple times.
SPEAKER_01And that's like my cryptonite. If you're funny, I'm done. We're getting married.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I'm done. I have I have no I have no defenses against that. And it was that, and it was also um, it was like for a spice book, there was almost it was just yearning for 60 to 70 percent of it, and it was just such plot. Like literally when we get it, it was spicy, like and Rowan was such a good character, and Sloan was such a well-written character, and like Bryn is just the master.
SPEAKER_01She's doing good things. Which of your brothers?
SPEAKER_02Oh, Rowan.
SPEAKER_01A hundred percent. Which of your brothers? Yeah, which of the brothers is your favorite? Rowan. Rowan. Yeah. Rowan. Yeah, again, the funny one.
SPEAKER_02Undefeated champion. Yeah, he's funny, he can cook, he's like, you know, he's nice and sweet, but he's also like, he will beat a man to death for your honor. Yeah. Like, pulverize him into the ground with his fists. Hell yeah. With people cheering. Which one of the girls?
SPEAKER_01Sloane. Sloan, really. Sloane is my favorite. She's smart, she's like kind of quiet and introverted. She had no friends really other than Lark. And like she doesn't open up to anybody. I feel like she's like, she's also such a badass. Her murders are so planned and thought out. She makes it. Oh, she's so sweat.
SPEAKER_02Yes, she's so smart.
SPEAKER_01A fucking idiot FBI can't figure it out. Right. She's too smart.
SPEAKER_02I think it's, you know, okay, so for after reading this book, I was like, oh, it's Rose. But you know what? Thinking again how I felt the first time, I think it's Lark because the gold stars just fucking got me. Like, especially when you would read about them like in B. And it would be, you know, some of the like characters would have a gold star on them and it'd be like, oh, she gave me a gold star for like doing this. Like, I just love her giddy, you know, like laugh. You would do in real life. So yes, I would hand out stars 100%. And I loved her shitty crafts that she was making. I bet you they're actually like I picture them as like hot garbage, hot glue. There's like oh, I picture what I how I would make them. Yeah. Like just like the snow globe to me was like a mason jar that I had salsa in, like an old salsa jar.
SPEAKER_01And you like didn't really clean out either. You chucked a severed finger in.
SPEAKER_02And there's just like shit floating around, like leftover salsa and the fingi. And I'm like, yeah, perfect. That's the and she's like drugging people. That part when she gives like the drugged muffins and when she gives the drugged beer is the funniest. I for whatever reason I just laugh for a real long time. I love her.
