SPEAKER_00

So four, we're rolling. Okay. And welcome to the beauty file. Welcome to the beauty files. Uh, this is I think the episode that everyone has been waiting for. Yeah. Because it's a big one. I I think we have it in our title. I don't know if we did or not. I haven't decided how we're gonna like show the episodes and how they come out or how they look when they go live. But this is we're we're covering lots of topics today, and I think they're they're all related again to building confidence. Um they truly do just stack one right over the other. So we're back in our we're back in our biology books, we're looking at the layers of confidence, okay? So we did your personality, all right. Keep keep yourself in check, okay? Be just be a good person, okay? Be a good person. And it will, it will flow. The confidence will flow. Uh, second one up, we did skin, which was related to um skincare procedures and dietary choices. Yeah. So we really killed that one. Um again, if you're just listening, I do recommend going back to the beginning uh because they build. Um today, in maybe a particular order, we're gonna do fitness style makeup or fitness makeup style. Doesn't matter.

SPEAKER_01

I I mean either way they kind of go together. They kind of the the makeup and the style kind of blend, so it's really we're gonna see how it flows.

SPEAKER_00

So maybe and we're gonna also piece it with the part that a lot of people just completely tune out, and that is the movement and fitness piece. Right. Um me being a former former fatty. She kills me when she does that. Oh, it's catchy. Come on, former fatty, I love it. Um, yeah, so I I don't want to say I sh well, yeah, I will. I'm gonna say I struggled with my weight for many, many, many, many, many, many years. Um basically just thinking that that was what was lovable about me. I had to be a certain way to look a certain way, and it's the whole thing. Well, maybe we'll do a deep dive podcast when we feel like getting deep and emotional.

SPEAKER_01

Um maybe we can do that next time. I mean, I struggled with weight, but uh opposite.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, truly. So um, yeah, so and that's the other thing that's fun and that we won't talk about is that you can struggle with weight at any weight. At any weight and be judged at any weight. Yeah, truly. So we we will get into that because that is that's really getting into the the weight of the confidence too and also true, yeah. Because the and my gosh, I didn't even think about that. We have to add that. That's our opinions about ourselves. I guess that counts with within, but it's a little deeper. It is.

SPEAKER_01

It's kind of you know, getting more emotional, like yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Alright, we'll get well stay tuned.

SPEAKER_01

More personal.

SPEAKER_00

Up next on the beauty files.

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_00

Um, okay, so somebody who okay, so like you, what we talked about last episode, you grew up with not great skin. Right. Which is what um made you want to even get into the profession you're in now. Correct. Love that. Um, so like me, I or like you, I had an issue, which was my weight and trying to figure out like what do I do about it? Because clearly what I'm doing now is not working. The many subs that I would eat with milkshakes paired with it, mm-mm. So good. It was a hamburger sub with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise, and then I would get a peanut butter milkshake.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Oh man, that I can taste it right now. I could feel that on my face. Yeah, well, probably now too. Yeah, while the swelling is real. Um, and look, don't get me wrong, if that was in front of me, I would eat that still to this day. I mean, I would eat that too. It's just now, I think I mentioned it last time, it's more like intentional eating. Okay. So with eating, yes, you can do that by itself. We talked about that, but there's also the movement fitness piece. And I now really make the connection because if you do feel inflamed and swollen, I mean, you kind of think like, oh, I need to go get a massage, I need to work it out of me. Oh, hello. Let me try working out. Yeah. Um, it's the same, it's the same thing, and it's a little more um beneficial, I'll say. Massages are great, don't get me wrong. I I love a good massage. Um, but if you're looking to actually move the needle of your health, feel good about yourself, and eventually the goal is to like yourself and then maybe even love yourself, right? Um, is showing up for yourself so that you can trust that you are trustworthy. You are you are, you can rely on you. Um, and by doing that is showing up, make an appointment with yourself and and show up. Um, a lot of us make that, oh, okay, I'm gonna start fresh. I'm gonna go to the gym tomorrow at 6 a.m. And then your alarm goes off, and you're like, Well, let me just hit snooze, and then it's seven, and you're like, Well, I don't have time, I'll go after work, and then after work rolls around, you're like, Well, I gotta make dinner, and then it's six o'clock in the evening. You're like, I don't know, I tomorrow, I'll do it tomorrow. Right. You just broke like a hundred promises to yourself. You did not show up for yourself, you do not respect yourself, which is why accountability is great, right? You have a friend to meet at the gym, you're gonna show up for them. Set up, I guess first start with your personality. Are you the type of person that needs accountability? I for sure uh yes, yes, I am I am that person. Um I am that person as well. Yes. Uh we both have taken a break on our fitness, and I'm I will be starting up again in a few weeks. Um, I just I had to take a break. I've um was going a little too hard, and it was causing a different kind of stress. Um, so I'm just I'm intentionally taking a break. Um you've been uh dealing with some some stress and things, but we definitely need to get you, especially after doing that in body scan.

SPEAKER_01

You need to uh Yeah, but it was uh apparently, you know, I have like the muscle tone of like an 80-year-old pretty much. Like, I'm just being I'm being honest, guys. Like it's not good.

SPEAKER_00

It's not easy either.

SPEAKER_01

It's it's not easy, and I will say for those of you out there, like I I get it because I have two children, two different ages. Um getting up and waking up unless I'm gonna work out at home um isn't really an option because my boyfriend, he leaves really early. Yeah. I don't have time to go to the gym to get back to be with the kids. Um it's it's really not an option. And then in the evenings, on days where I'm not working late, I am getting my kids and I am taking them to different things. So unless I was to literally go at like nine or ten o'clock at night or wake up at like 3 a.m. Yeah to go to the gym, like it's just not happening. And yes, it's an excuse. Don't get me wrong. It all absolutely is.

SPEAKER_00

All have them. It's true.

SPEAKER_01

My goal is to find something that I could do, even if it's just working out like twice a week, or you know, making myself once the weather warms up enough, like go for walks and do things like that with the kids, or do things intentionally with the kids, um, because then it's not an excuse. Or with a friend, um, when I would work out in the past, I would always hire somebody because I knew I had to show up because you're paying for it and it kills me. Like you don't just so I would intentionally do that because I knew I would show up. I knew I would be there. And so um, for me, when it came to that, especially as I got older, when I was younger, I I worked out like a fiend. And I think that's probably why I've gone the complete opposite, because I was literally a gym rat, a junkie. I couldn't stop myself. I was one of those people that was like on a treadmill running. Totally understandable.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so to circle back then, okay, that's step one is know your personality. Yeah. Okay, because there are there are some that are very disciplined. They will show up, they just don't know what to do. Correct. There are those people. So this it's funny. When I started the an afternoon with Amy, I was like, I'm showing like an inch. I was this close of doing a fitness route. That's how that's just how much I love it. Um, but uh, I don't know. I like to do things that make me feel good on the outside. And and unfortunately, a lot of us really do just like that instant gratification. They just want to know, okay, what lip shade and eyeshadow shade is gonna make me smile today. And I I get that. So that's why I decided to go the uh color analysis and makeup route. So just in case you want to do that, little fun fact. Um, but I have I've been working out pretty darn consistently and actually putting muscle on for the last three years successfully, but I've been working out and kind of killing myself prior to that for two years straight. So I've even I've had my own little journey of what's too much, what's my sweet spot, and yeah, like lack of accountability. I had a trainer uh for three years, and she decided to make a career change, and very happy for her, but that was like oh no, what do I do? So that is the part of the reason why I haven't haven't been working out. So I am on the hunt for a trainer or something. I was filming myself and putting it on my social media and having my audience hold me accountable, but um, hey guys, you didn't hold me accountable, like I asked. So I'm blaming all of you. Um, so anyway, so like I'm saying, you can have it like perfect and doubted and set for three years straight, and then one little change to your routine completely can derail everything you have. So I get it, I guess is what I'm trying to say. So when I when I talk at you and we're talking fitness, and you think, oh, well, that's because she already has her dream body. No, you guys. Well, first of all, that's true. Okay, I do. I finally have built a body that I love, but that doesn't mean I'm done. Okay, now that I haven't worked out, I see loss of muscle just a little bit, and I'm feeling not as strong as I did, not as tight. So yeah, you're never done. I think there's a comedian that talks about that. I think it's um it might be like Jim Gaffigan or something, but he's like looking around at the gym and he's seeing all these fit people, and he's like, Why are you here? You're done. And it's just it's so funny because I used to think that when I was angry at these people for having these bodies of like what I don't understand why they're here. Like, I just I'm same. I was jealous, and I'd be dying on the treadmill, running like five miles and just trying to like get through, and then yeah, I get it now. Like you have to keep up with it. Um, so anyway, so let's let's dial it back. Okay. So for the person who is um they act, they don't need accountability. Like they've they they just need the rules to and they go. They are they are streamlined, they they know what time, all of that. My advice to you, if you don't know what to do, is just do what you like to do. Yeah, build it's kind of like um with the procedures, right? Don't do a procedure unless you have the routine of skincare, consistency, something. So at the moment, if all you can do is walk for 20 minutes, then what? Walk for 20 minutes. Like it's it is that simple. Um, I would say the most annoying thing about fitness and exercise is unfortunately, it and it is what it is, there is no quick fix. No. Like, if you want to do it right, I don't recommend doing a crash diet. I don't recommend signing up for like a 21-day challenge. Please don't do that. Okay? They are designed for you to fail.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

They just are.

SPEAKER_01

They really are.

SPEAKER_00

And usually it has to do with restriction and going hard. Like, there's one called like the it's like it's like a uh the word hard is in it. It's called it's like a hard 70s something. Anyway, it's it's insane. And it's like you have to work out twice a day. You have to. Oh, I've seen it, yeah. Please don't do that. It is not, it is not the answer. It is the slow, boring, consistent, just keep showing up. That is actually going to move the needle. Yeah. And I say that I speak from experience. I have tried so many of those stupid 25-day reset, um, both with diet and exercise. I I have been the perfect, I will buy anything to get out of this body, essentially. And that's that's the biggest thing. I was trying to escape my own body.

SPEAKER_01

And I yeah, I've done that. I've been there where I would buy anything or do anything, but I don't know if you're like this. Um this goes more to not working out, but to diet. Anytime I would use that word, especially as an adult, after what I if I said I was on a diet, forget it. It was I'm going to I see food, I eat it. So like I would say I was on a diet and it just did not work for me. So I agree. I think that, you know, there is a lot to be said about like doing something every day and just saying, like, I want to change my habits as opposed to I'm going to change my diet or I'm going to go on a diet. I'm going to go on a you can say I'm going to go on a fitness journey, but it shouldn't be like I'm going to go on a 30-day fitness uh that's why I say do what you like to do.

SPEAKER_00

Because you're going to have to want to do it. Because this it once you start, it's like Pringles, okay? You're you're going. Yeah. We do love a good Pringle. But um once you start, it's supposed to keep going. This is just part of who you are now. Um, there's a um, I think it's a like a radio psychologist or something, but he he always says to his clients, he's like, if you don't like you, you need to remember that whatever you do, you go with you. And I'm like, huh. So if you want to buy that new thing or whatever, and you think that's gonna fix the thing, well, just remember that you are you're going with you to that thing. Right. So that's why when you buy a thing, you like it for a minute, and then you're back to being unhappy. And it's because you haven't fixed, you don't like you yet. So when I was buying all of those gimmicky things, I was thinking it's going to fix me, or I'm going to change myself. And that's that's not the answer. You have to change with yourself and take yourself along the journey. Like almost imagine yourself holding your own hand and walking you through a I don't know, pick a landscape, whatever it is. Like you're going together, right? You are your own best friend. Um, that was like the mindset shift for me that I had to make, and it took many, many years. Um, but I did start from if you're opening up our biology book, looking at our our multi-layers of confidence, it did start at the bottom. I had to start liking myself. Right. And just get to know myself. What do I like? Um, for me, working out looks like uh heavy strength training. It took me a long time and a lot of running and uh just burpees and things I absolutely hated. I hate burpees. Burpees are they're if you meet someone who likes them, I don't slap them across the face and say stop lying to yourself, okay? You don't. I know you don't. They're rough, they are, they're terrible. And um guess who doesn't do burpees? You this guy right here, because I don't like them. Yeah, and I'm not gonna do what I don't like. Now, do I always wake up smiling and saying, I'm gonna go lift weights today? No, okay, that's where discipline comes in. It's just this is the thing that I do now, and even if I'm in not in the mood, I'm gonna do it. It's like taking your makeup off at the end of the day.

SPEAKER_01

Nobody wants to do it, but you have to do it. See, and I am so good about that. So I wish I'm much better now. So, okay, let me ask you, what was the last gimmicky thing that you have done related to fitness and working out um or equipment that you got that you were like, I'm absolutely gonna use, and found that it just didn't happen?

SPEAKER_00

A gimmicky thing. Okay, give me a minute. I can tell you when my husband bought and I really gave him a hard time and it broke on installation, which is even more funny. He bought and it was it was an Instagram ad, and it was to improve grip strength. And it was like this hand device.

unknown

Oh man.

SPEAKER_01

We have one of those at the office that he can actually try. No, absolutely not. Because he's it tells him what his grip strength is. Oh, okay. Well that's it tells you that's different. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um this was I I honestly it it looked ridiculous. No, it wasn't a ball. It was like a um reverse springs kind of like you squeeze it and then it had springs that would would shrink and then because you had to fight against it, it was resistance. Um I was like, What why did you buy that? Like, you can get grip strength from a hundred different things in our gym right now. Yeah, you did not need anyway, but he was like, Well, the guy, of course, the guy, the guy who's selling it, completely ripped body. I mean, guys fall for this stuff just as much as we do. Oh, absolutely. Men want to have that physique, a different physique, but uh they want to look good too. They want to look good too. So I so I gave him a couple like things he could actually do to build grip strength, but that one that one stands out. How about you? Um my gosh.

SPEAKER_01

What's the the bike everybody? Oh, the Peloton. Okay, okay, too. Okay. That was mine. All right, so had a baby, felt like I was fluffy and just didn't, you know, uh I had her, I was 33, I just felt very homely, I guess. Like I just didn't feel good about my body. Not to mention, was this during COVID? Yeah, it was COVID. Like there's so many That's when I bought mine the psychological things and everything. Also, also bought it and I was like, I'm gonna get the highest model they have and all the accessories that come with it, and it was ridiculously expensive. Did you have a payment plan?

SPEAKER_00

No, that's when I ended up oh no.

SPEAKER_01

No, I was like, I'm gonna use my tax refund, and I'm just gonna, you know, I was one of those. Let me be honest. I'm not even gonna lie to you. I love it. Hey, look, um very relatable. Go ahead. So yeah, I I feel like everybody does something like this and they regret it later on. I mean, props to you if you don't and you actually do it. Like seriously, I want to meet you and shake your hand because I'm just not that person. Maybe you can teach me. So I was like, I am, I I told myself I was gonna buy it when I was done breastfeeding. Um, and because your body does change during all of that and like what you're eating, like my nutrition wasn't where it needed to be during that time frame. Um, so I was like, okay, I'm gonna get it. I'm gonna set it up, I'm gonna get the best one, which was also thousands more than they are today for the highest, which is ew.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um, and I was like, I'm gonna get on it, I'm gonna use it, it's gonna be amazing. Y'all, I bought it, set everything up. I might have used that five separate times, maybe ten, if I'm lucky. Ten that's pretty good. Times in in five years. Okay. Almost. Yeah. So I ended up selling it for like nothing. Pretty much because it was just sitting around the house and I wasn't using it. And they're large and they're heavy and they take up space. I still had the box that the TV portion of it came in. Like uh literally the mat that, you know, went under it, the mat, the workout mat. So the shoes. The shoes. Um, I think mine came had like some weights with it. Like when I say I got the whole kitten caboodle, I got the whole kitten caboodle. Good intentions. And I was like, I'm gonna work out at home because it's too hard to go to the gym. This is gonna be it. First of all, bicycling, listen. I will I grew up riding horses. Okay, you have to develop the muscles in your seat. Okay. And if you don't have those muscles anymore and you go sit down on that seat, it's not gonna feel nice. I did not enjoy it. Can we talk about bike seats? Why hasn't why hasn't that evolved?

SPEAKER_00

Evolved.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. But so for one, it didn't feel good down there. It was not my favorite thing. Yeah. Um, it was worse than you know, riding a horse. That there's just that feeling. Um the workout when I would do it was fine. Um I just be honest, I didn't, I I didn't do it. I didn't hold myself accountable. I didn't make myself do it. Did you enjoy it when you did? Nope. I did not enjoy it. Um I I have bad ankles too, so probably wasn't the best thing that I should have done. Um I've always been more of a um elliptical type of girl, um, as opposed to the treadmill, because the treadmill, the impact from like I I've I'm not a runner. I'm not a runner. It's not I did gymnastics when I was younger and hurt myself and my ankles particularly. And so ever since then, it's just it's just I'm not a runner. Like I'm not fast, I'm not gonna lie. I can run. And if I needed to run for my life, I'm pretty sure I I could. Um, but I that's just not. No, it's absolutely not my first choice of exercise. And I did make myself do it when I was younger. I did. Um like the Energizer Bunny, like it was just I looked ridiculous, like I said, but it was not my first choice. Like I didn't love it. I did it because I thought I needed to. Um, so again, I was like, oh, it's a bike. Everyone's doing it. They make it look so much fun and they're fine and fit and they're fit. And so many, I knew a lot of friends that actually did it, and some of them still do it. Yep. And bravo, bravo, because I barely touched a thing. That's okay. And that, okay, so since that, since that, I've done nothing. Um, shame on me. Um, my flexibility is awful now. Um, you know, all the things. So yes.

SPEAKER_00

Well, all right, so I'm gonna stop you there because first of all, this is not meant to shame anyone, and you shouldn't feel shame about it. And the last thing anyone us, any one of us should do is what we always do, and that's we compare. Right. Well, so and so is doing it, so why can't I? That's okay. F so and so. Yeah, okay. They found a thing that works, it's not your thing. Get over it. It's fine. It's fine. Okay, find something else. There is something for you. Okay, again, if it's just walking, I don't care. Start walking, then go to skipping. Okay, skipping is great for ankle mobility. Yeah. Um, but find a thing you're gonna do and don't tell anybody if if you don't want to. You don't have to tell anybody what you're doing. Because that that adds another layer, and this is where it comes back to really crappy people. There are people that want to know you're doing a thing so they can they can also know when you stop doing it.

SPEAKER_01

When you fail, pretty much. That's yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So keep that in mind, okay. If you're gonna make a cute little announcement on your on your Instagram of this is day one of the rest of my life, can I just stop you right there? Like, don't hit post. Um, don't don't even hit post after a year, okay? Until the habit is so embedded in you that it it it's suddenly an interest of, you know, it it's just part of you, okay? That's maybe when you can start announcing, hey, here's what I've been doing. Um, I mean, honestly, the the the three years that I have been silently working out, building my muscle, I didn't tell anybody until I was gonna post it on social media to hold myself accountable. And look, even I have stopped. Yeah. So like sometimes I feel like the second you post it, you've already put yourself in that like downhill like danger zone of if you want to be successful in anything, I mean, truly, like, don't tell anyone that don't tell anyone your plans. I think there's there's I'm sure a meme somewhere about that. Um, but eventually, and there's so much data to back this up, but women especially, actually, not even women especially, just men and women, after I think it's the age 35, you need to make putting muscle on like your job. Yeah. Um, for longevity, for just overall health and wellness. Um just okay, I wasn't gonna go here, but pickleball. All right, let me just I got light PTSD from pickleball.

SPEAKER_01

Pickleball.

SPEAKER_00

I um we we played pickleball and I I won. I'm really proud of you. Right. I yeah, I hate pickleball. Um all right, moving on. So my there are a lot of it's taken the world by storm and and it's great, okay? It's it's fitness, it's movement. Again, if you like doing it, that's wonderful. It can't be your only source, and I'm gonna tell a story. So my mom plays pickleball um a lot. Hi, mom. And she was playing with a league, and they were all I don't want to say they were seniors, but they were definitely like in their 60s.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And you would look at them and say they were fit, okay? They were tall and thin, they were quick on the court, they're they're playing their their um endurances, they're playing for hours, what have you. Um, one of the men ran down a ball and and hit it, kept running, stopped himself against the wall, broke both wrists. Because he did not have the muscle or the bone density, like no protection, no muscle, couldn't actually stop himself. He just basically hit the wall, broke both wrists. So this is an example of yes, you can look fit, but if you do not have muscle, muscle wraps around your bones, protects your ligaments. It's it's like a it's cushion. Yeah, it's the cushion that you need on a bike seat, but you know, that's fine. Bike seats, we need to oh bless you. We're leaving that in. That was so cute. Um anyway, I whatever you do, I just encourage start lifting, not super heavily, okay? Well, at least not yet, but that's something that we all should be doing. Yes. Um, and then if you're eating for your skin and beauty, you'll already be then eating more protein. Protein is just the building blocks of creating muscle. Right. So let's just shift gears real quick to the GLP ones, okay? Because a lot of people are on them. They are wonderful. They are they're very they're great. Um, you need to lift weights if you're on a GLP one. Um, you just it's a non-negotiable. Um, especially because you're so I guess that's why I bring it up. A lot of people think, well, if I'm on a GLP one, that's fine. I'm eating so much protein. Well, okay. Protein isn't what makes muscle. No. Like at all. Um it helps keep it. Helps keep it. If you have muscle and you start on a GLP one, keep eating protein, keep working out, then you will lose the actual body fat. But if you are not and you're just on a GLP one, your muscles going bye-bye with everything, and then you're just skin and bones. But everyone will look at you and be like, Wow, you look great because you look thin. Thin isn't always healthy. Right. And we've made it so as a as a culture, as a society. Um, so just something to keep keep in check for yourself. If you are on one, fine, that's okay. I'm pro. I think they're great. Um, but you must you must lift weights and eat protein. Yeah. To and and even if you're not, you must lift weights and eat protein. It's I would just to you have to.

SPEAKER_01

Um and again, I Amy is really good at it. I am really not good at it. And I, you know, that is something that I am hoping to, and I will ask Amy to help hold me accountable. Okay. Um, but that is something that I want to start doing more of. Not every day, because I know that that's unattainable.

SPEAKER_00

I would say one day a week and give yourself 15 minutes.

SPEAKER_01

One to two days a week. Don't even start that.

SPEAKER_00

But I would start with one.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. One day a week. You know, something that is attainable for each person and for you, for what whoever it is, like that's where I plan on starting.

SPEAKER_00

So I think that's amazing. So we weren't we're not making this podcast exclusively about fitness because I know that we all have our um threshold of talking about it. Right. So we'll just do what comes naturally next. And to me, that's okay, if you're molding and shaping your body, that gets into clothing. Yeah. Um, so well, first of all, okay, I will say this. This is one of the little hacks. Anytime that I need to like get motivated to work out, I always buy a new fitness outfit.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And it just has to be one that I just feel so good in that I want to wear. And then I when I wake up, if I want to work out in the morning, that is the article of clothing that is set out, ready to go, so that I put it on, now there's no excuse. I gotta go do the next thing. Okay. That being said, there are certain outfits for certain body types, there are certain colors you should be wearing. Um actually, we might even have to do a style podcast all on its own now that I'm really I mean, style is just because it doesn't matter what your body type is.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. There are cloth there is clothing that makes every body type look fantastic. Yes. And there's clothing out there that can make your body type look like you have a potato sack on.

SPEAKER_00

Do you remember there's it's like a shirt that it's like all crinkly and it's tiny. Like it's it's like a five by five shirt, and then you put it on, and that was like and it fits anybody. It was always like one size fits all and it just completely stretches out.

SPEAKER_01

Do you rem do you know what I'm talking about? Yes, I do. Why was that a thing? I I never owned one. There's still clothing out there that's one size fits all.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that is that is uh no.

SPEAKER_01

There is there is still it's the stretchy stuff, guys.

SPEAKER_00

It's don't wear one size fits all, please. It's it's just not it's not the look. It's not a one-size fit. It's not the look. Um yeah, okay, so let's let's book let's put that on the shelf because I mean we can talk about it interchangeably, but I guess it just comes down to knowing who your style personality, there are those things. I think there's a a stylist, she's like a celebrity stylist, and she says pick three words of how you of how you see yourself or how you want to dress. So let's say it's like edgy, polished, and feminine. Okay. And if you see an uh if you're at a a store and you're you're shopping and you pick up a garment, does this garment represent any of the words? And the more the better, obviously. So if it's all three, great. If it's just one, let's try it on and see how it fits. But if it does not fit into any of those three words, you put it back. I really like that. I do like that. I think that's very intentional. Um, it stops you from buying things that you're like, well, I'll wear this on Eastern eight months from now. I really like this. And then you hang it up and you're like and you never wear it. Right. Because you're like, I I'd like this, but I don't know where I'd wear it. You need nope, put it back. And I'm talking to myself too, obviously, because I have a shopping problem.

SPEAKER_01

Well uh and then you have people and I'm notorious for this, and I have told Amy, like, we need to go shopping. I have never truly been super comfortable in my body and what I put on. Um and so I have always been more of hiding myself, which I'm short. So when you try to hide yourself and you're short, you make yourself look even bigger.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

When you're trying to not do that. So this is why style comes into play so much, because you can make yourself look worse, and then you'll hate clothing in general, and you'll just want to wear sweatpants or leggings all the time because you feel defeated.

SPEAKER_00

And not to make this a pitch about color analysis, but this is pretty much the whole point of color analysis, because a lot of people think black. I have to wear black. And if you're like, I don't know, a warm, slightly redheaded person and you were black, I'm sorry, but you are gonna stand out way more than you think. It is not your comfort color. Um we often just think black saves everybody. It's it's the color. It's not. I'm sorry, it's it's not, and it's very depressing. It's my favorite. I understand I can wear it. Um, but I try not to. Like, I'm on a don't wear black kick um as often as oh, she just made a face because she wears black a lot, uh, Rachel. Um, but and and look, it might not be black for for everybody, but it's for me, it was the scarves. Okay, I wore scarves all the time. That's that we talked about that a couple episodes ago. Like, that's how I hid it. It wasn't a black scarf, it was just scarves in general. Um, they did not serve me, they made my face look rounder because I had fabric all the way up to my chin. And what was I trying to do was trying to cover how round my face was and my chin, and I was actually making it worse. So you're highlighting that area. Exactly. So understanding why we get dressed, again, it it all comes back to intentionality. Um, you want to look and feel good, have a color palette that makes sense to your coloring, your unique uh features. And I I know people say, like, oh, if it and this is why I think people don't do color analysis, it's because the whole premise of color analysis is we see you first, yep, then the color, and people we do not want to be seen. That is what I'm learning with all of the people.

SPEAKER_01

People do not people.

SPEAKER_00

And like you said, you could you could be doing the thing and just looking, you are the wrong color, you will look tired, you will look bigger than you appear, you will or opposite, we're gonna see the thing you're trying to hide if it's not the right color. So yes, it it the the the selling of the color analysis is yes, you see you first, but really it's just it's seeing your best features first. So it's the thing that you do, your eye color, it's it's the rosiness in your lips, it's not so much your stature or whatever it is you're trying to hide. There are ways where you can style anything.

SPEAKER_01

And I will say, most people will be like, I like my boobs, I like my butt, I like my arms, I like my stomach. So finding clothing that will make you highlight those features. Highlight those features and oh, there is a there is something out there, there's something out there for everyone. Like and again, the other thing is, you know, shirt lines. Yeah. So people don't like necklines, length of things for people. So, you know, sometimes some you know, for me, wearing something super long, even though I may feel more comfortable in it, isn't helping me look taller unless it's fitted. Unless it's super fitted and cut exactly where it needs to be. Yep.

SPEAKER_00

But she would look really cute in like a maxi dress if it was like fitted in the right areas.

SPEAKER_01

So I have a couple of see that on you. But most of them are not fitted, they're just flowy.

SPEAKER_00

Uh because again And then you're lost.

SPEAKER_01

And then I get lost. Now, it is uh a blue color, but a darker blue, but it's a muted.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_01

So it's not bad.

SPEAKER_00

It's in her color season, are you?

SPEAKER_01

It is. But the neckline on it. Now, I will say for me, I'm very I'm not very broad-shouldered. I'm pretty pretty petite. I have a very long neck though. So according to you.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Go on. So I feel like I am one of those people that kind of doesn't necessarily fit the mold. I can wear a lot of different necklines that most people can't, because again, if you are really broad-shouldered or Yeah, we don't want to do a boat neck. We don't want to do a turtleneck. Or like things like that, like it can make you now I I will say turtlenecks are not like they kind of I don't see you in a turtleneck. No. Turtlenecks is not something that you will ever typically see me in, and I also don't necessarily like anything tight up to my neck. Mm-hmm. Because I feel like that also just does not like the shirt you have on today, she's got like a cute little like henley top.

SPEAKER_00

It's a scoop. Yeah, it's a scoop neck and it's got the little buttons, and I really like I like that length on you. Yeah. And one day we'll be on video, everybody, and then you'll actually see it.

SPEAKER_01

But again, so there's different things. Like if you're, you know, you want to hide them. Somebody might be like, oh, if you want to hide your neck, wear a turtleneck. No. No, do not wear a turtleneck. If you think that you have a giraffe neck, you're not wearing a turtleneck, because that's just gonna be like You're bringing all attention to the area that you want to hide.

SPEAKER_00

So yes. Um I I wish there was like a book that I could I could think of. Yeah. But you can book an appointment uh with an afternoon with Amy, and we can do the style analysis if you wanted. I mean, yeah at an afternoon with Amy on Instagram. But yeah, um, so that is that is something that I I'm interested in that I offer. But um yeah, there at any even if you are just starting your fitness journey, you don't need to wait until you're quote unquote done, until you can start dressing and feeling good. Because that how you how you feel about yourself again is how you treat yourself, it's your thoughts, it's then how you show up to others. Right. A happy person is going to be happy to other people. Oh, I just thought of a quote that I came across and I wanted to read. Um, because it was on par with the things we were talking about. It's it's this attractive people compliment, happy people encourage, successful people support, and those who have nothing to offer try to bring you down. I'm like, oh, really like that. And I feel like that's very relevant to just the definition of confidence. I mean, e any of those words probably fall under the word, the definition of confident attractive, happy, successful. These are all things that we want.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_00

A lot of us think it's unattainable or we're not worthy of it. I assure you, you are. It is never too late. Um, but it does start with you.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

You have to decide. It will not, you'll not just wake up one day and win the lottery, right? Like if you want to win the lottery, you have to play the lottery. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I always say I'm gonna win it, but I'm always like, yeah, I'd have to play it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I don't recommend playing the lottery, but I will say, like, this is where you need to put, as my father would say, you need to put both hands on the steering wheel and take back and take in take control of the situation because the car is moving no matter what. Wouldn't it be nice if you were actually in control? Yes. I'm looking at you for reasons that you know. Anyway, so um, but that is the case for everybody. You you are still in control of your life, you can decide, even if you feel stuck. Let's say you work a nine to five, let's say, yeah, all hours of the day are booked. In your eyes. Um, have a real minute with yourself. And is that true? And is it true that you have to be the one doing those things? And is there any room, any wiggle room whatsoever for any kind of self-improvement? Even reading or listening to a podcast. I'm still looking at you. Yeah. Um, but you know, you this is where like habit stacking comes into play. Like, if you drive a lot, I drive a lot. I'm in the car a great deal. Almost to the point now where my like hips are getting tight and I need to start stretching. Um this is when you can habit stack, okay? Listen to a podcast, listen to something. I used to listen to a fitness podcast about the style of fitness that I wasn't even doing yet. And I thought, oh, well, that's for them, that's not for me. And then after I heard so many times, I'm like, no, I should be doing that. I should be lifting the heavy weights. Why it just had a just a moment of like, oh, it's it's clicking. And the only reason why I was listening to this podcast was because it was just like-minded people. It was just, oh, they really like fitness, they like talking about it. Yeah, I'll listen in on their conversation, completely separating the fact that the style of fitness that they talked about was what I should have been doing. Right. But I it it took a minute, it took probably a couple years, but I got it, and now I'm now I'm in it.

SPEAKER_01

And are you also in it to dress yourself because now you feel better about clothing shopping yourself?

SPEAKER_00

Really fun.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so then, you know, we told we talked about touching on the topic of makeup.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, great transition. So, you know, when we look at ourselves and we put our clothes on.

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_01

And then you look in the mirror and you go, okay, so now what? I was just gonna say, now what? Now what? Now what?

SPEAKER_00

You know, so so I I I mean this is this is so just on brand for me because I didn't really get into makeup until maybe I'm I'll be 38 this year. Probably 35. That I really start wondering, like, why am I wearing the same crap that I've been wearing for years? I didn't like it then, I don't like it now. Uh, I always look dry. Like, and then I'm looking around and I'm starting to notice, and now I will say social media has a had played a huge part. Um, I would see these girls, they'd have the glowy face. I'm like, I want that. So I would buy um Covirl.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, all just all the things, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And and this is really important on understanding what makeup to use for your skin because I was using liquids, they would dry down, and you'd see all the flakiness and texture I had on my skin. Now, thank goodness that I went on that journey, because that is actually what led me to Rachel's office of being like, how come my nose is flaky and no one else's is? Okay, like that that can't be a me thing, right? Like, that's gotta be the product. Nope. No, uh, it's every type of thing I've used. So it did take some trial and error of figuring out what makeup works. So it is gonna depend on your uh the type of skin that you have. Um, but just know that powders, if you want that illuminating glow, you're not gonna get it from a powder. If you want a liquid, let's make sure you have the appropriate skin texture. Otherwise, it's just gonna dry down and then you're gonna look very cakey uh hours later.

SPEAKER_01

So again, I've been makeup was a huge part of my life. I wedding homecoming proms, like I did makeup for everybody. Love that. So Amy's talking about like her type of makeup that's gonna work on her. So actually, what works on her does not work on me. Yeah. And she likes the glow. And because I woke up, I as a kid and still to this day have more of what I will say oily skin. Okay, so I've always had I hate the glow. You know, everybody wants the glow, they'll come to me and the I'll be like, I'll give you all the glow you want, just don't give me the glow, because I don't want the glow.

SPEAKER_00

I don't want the glow either. I think there's a there's a too much glow that lacks professionalism. Yeah. If you're glowy to the point where like I'm wondering if you're wet, yeah. Like, we need to tone it down. But yes, I know what you're saying.

SPEAKER_01

Like and I will say, like, women as they age and get older, having that glow is definitely youthful to them. So they should. It's very in right now. Yes. Uh having uh, you know, just a pearlescent in certain areas um in your your your 30s and even your forties is good. Um more of a glow as you get older transcends youthfulness. I will say a lot of times when you're in your teens and twenties, you're going more for a matted look for the majority of people. Um, and that is, you know, just what I've seen in the profession. Like that's the you know, across the board, that's pretty much what most are looking for. Um you will have some that are younger that still want that glow. Um, but for me, I can do even to this day, I can do a powder, I can do a liquid, and it doesn't, but it also has to be the right consistency. There are different consistencies for these things, which is also important. Yes. Um can I do a um oh my god, which word I'm looking for? The other type of makeup. A uh cream. Cream, cream, yes. Can I do a cream? I can still do a cream. You probably just need the right uh steps like to prep and finish. Do I love a cream because of the steps and the prep and the finishes? No, right, I do not. But again, this comes down to clothing. One style, one size does not fit all when it comes to makeup. That also comes down to application. Yeah. How much should you wear?

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And when is it appropriate to wear a lot and when is it appropriate to wear a little? That's so true. Let me ask you, if you're going just just to the gym, what are you doing?

SPEAKER_00

That's a loaded question, but I'll answer it uh for right now. Answer me now. Uh, I'm not wearing anything. Okay. But that's not that has not always been the case. And I still know friends that will put on a full face and go to the gym. Wearing gym clothes. Wearing gym clothes, whole thing, full face. And when I say full face, I mean like foundation, contour, I mean everything. Um I would say it depends on the type of workout. So when I was super consistent and lifting heavily, I didn't always sweat. Right. Because I was consistent. I didn't I didn't I could have worn a lot of makeup then. I just don't now because I I'm comfortable with my own skin.

SPEAKER_01

So that's still So do you feel like makeup coincides with confidence, just like clothes, just like the fitness aspect? I mean, because if you're going to the gym and you have a full face of makeup on that to me says you're still struggling. You're still struggling. Yeah. Um, you know, again, so I do think that, you know, there is appropriate makeup to wear at different times. Yeah. But I also understand why some people still feel like they need a full face because I was that person.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um It's the same thing with lashes. Yeah. Me thinking I needed those lashes because I needed those lashes. Like you get so used to seeing yourself in a certain way that if you take it away like that, oh, I don't know where did I go? It's it's like the expression of women putting makeup on. I had to go put my face on. Yes. And I used to think that was really cute and funny, but now like I use that language and I look at my daughter and I'm like, well, I don't want her to think that I need this makeup to feel beautiful because I don't. I don't.

SPEAKER_01

You I feel like, you know, it we should look at makeup just like clothing and enhancing your enhancing your features, right? Um, you know, we want to enhance the things that um we like about ourselves um and make them stand out and make them, you know, center stage and I love wearing makeup.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. I made my stupid channel all about putting makeup on. Obviously, I really like it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, but do I live by it? Do I let it roll me? Right. Do I think, oh God, don't talk to me. I don't have mascara on. No.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I no. Used to. Used to. Used to be like that.

SPEAKER_01

I used to be like that too. My thing is like, I don't go out of the house without sunscreen. So my sunscreen is tinted, but that's because it gives me a higher level of protection.

SPEAKER_00

No, I'm talking about being tinted. I'm not walking out like a swamp troll, okay? Like I'm not wearing pajamas to Walmart, okay? Like I have self-respect. And if you're wearing pajamas to Walmart, I don't you're probably not even listening to this podcast. But I I want to be real clear. I still put on a cute outfit. I'm still intentionally getting dressed in the morning, but I don't I don't live by I'm not ready unless I have my face. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I but and we I think I had said like I used to never leave my house without makeup.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It just used to be a thing, and that was, you know, I was always hiding behind the makeup. Um and uh now for me I rarely put on makeup and when I have it on I feel separate from yourself. Yeah, it's just it feels like so much, and I can't wait to get home and get it off. Even if everybody thinks that I look amazing, for me I'm just like, oh, that's so much. Like to put eyeshadow on and to do all of those things for me. Now, again, if it's you know, an event or something, absolutely, like I'm going to put my face on. I know how to put my face on. I'm very, you know, I know what colors to use. I know do I love doing it?

SPEAKER_02

No, I do not.

SPEAKER_00

And that's where we differ. I get excited. I love it. Now, this is interesting because you we have a very different journey. Uh, do I love it because I'm only now just in it? Probably or right? Like, or is it just you've you've done it. I've done it. You're over it, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Years and years and years you've consumed me.

SPEAKER_00

Right. But you have no, so I would call this you've graduated. Yeah. Not saying you'll never wear it again, but you have beautiful complexion now. You do have your lashes, your brows are there. So the the points that that shape your face, if you will, are still there. Yeah. So that's actually that's why I when I had decent, like healthy lashes when you would do them. Um, I was happy that I had those and I had my brows um, what do we call that? Fusion, microfusion, yeah. Microbladed and then fusion, the shadowing or whatever. I was really happy when I had that because it look, I will say, that does make a difference. You do look like a person. Yeah. Like I got out of the shower and I looked in the mirror and I'm like, oh, I'm like still here. Yeah. Like I'm not balding in my eyebrows. And you know, it's it does I will say that does make a difference. So I do I do really like the permanent makeup. Um, especially remember less is more. But um, if you're that type of person who cannot leave the house without makeup, I might encourage you then to try permanent makeup. Absolutely. Because it does take away that um level of need. Yeah, yeah. Like you you don't rel yeah, what's you don't depend on it. Even though oddly enough you do, because it's there all the time, but you're not that thought is removed. Right. So that clears up yeah, that clears up your uh well, first of all, yeah, it frees time. I mean, holy moly, like, yeah, like that's if you're not if that's all the makeup you did was just your brows and your lashes and it was done, yeah, you can now take away. Um need to do it mental chatter.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, the oh my gosh, I can't leave the house without it.

SPEAKER_00

And um, so if that's you, maybe try that, yeah. I would say, but just do you know, find a reputable source. If you're local, I do highly recommend Rachel at Exquisite Med Spa. Um yeah. So anyway, um I don't know where we're going with that. But yeah, I guess, okay, so it's just makeup. What is your like anything else? Take a take a minute and really assess your relationship with it. Are you wearing it? Is it wearing you? Are you wearing a lip shade from 1997 or even 2007? Like, is it s is it matte? Is are your lips looking cracked, but it's just a color that you love? Like, we need you need a refresh. There's probably a better version of it.

SPEAKER_01

And I will say, when you're used to seeing yourself in something, um, and you think that it looks great, or people have complimented you because of it, it doesn't necessarily mean that that it looks great or that it's your uh color. Um, and again, as we age, that changes. So something that was your color in your twenties is probably not your color in your forties. So just remember that as we age, as we change.

SPEAKER_00

My dog is dreaming and he's chasing something in his dream and barking at it.

SPEAKER_02

That's so cute.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway, okay, go ahead. I'm sure that'll hopefully get cut out.

SPEAKER_01

Um as we age, as we change, as our looks change, we need to evolve with them and not stay stuck in our younger self because again, we want to be the best version of ourselves, so that means evolving with ourselves.

SPEAKER_00

Oddly enough, that is what keeps you young. Right. Think about all the people you can think of that are older than you. Pick it pick an age, and you're trying a thing, and they immediately shut it down. Oh, I don't know why you do that. Right. I I would never.

SPEAKER_01

Don't do that. How unattractive does that sound? It sounds awful. Or it sure does. Or, you know, somebody says to you, and this is how I have people that tell me, Oh, I'm gonna do, I'm gonna have this kind of surgery, I'm gonna do change my hair color, I'm gonna do okay. I'm like good for you. If that's what you want to do, do it for you. Yep. Do what makes you happy. Now, that doesn't always necessarily mean that you need it or you should do it, but I'm never gonna tell you you're crazy for doing it, or for wanting to do it, or for thinking it. Yeah. Um, you might in if you think that somebody is, and this is the other thing, if you think that what somebody is doing or wearing or about to do is just crazy and out of this world, there is a better way you can say, Oh, well, you know, ask them why they're they have come to this conclusion. I always say, tell me more. Yeah. That is like my why have you come to this conclusion? And then, you know, there are different ways that you can say, oh, well, you could always or you know, uh, I would say turning it back on yourself sometimes isn't always the best way either. Well, I would do this. Yes, nobody really wants to hear that. Most of the time people just don't care. It's true. Or they feel like you're you you only care about yourself at that point. Um, so just try to way try a different way to phase it if you really think that that's not going to be what's a good idea for them. Good for them, yes.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So be be their advocate without them knowing. But but hear it out before you are quick to shut it down. Yeah. And I've that's it. Yeah. I think we we crammed a lot into this one. We did. So let us know some feedback. I would like to see some um conversation on the Instagram. But if there's a topic so far we've touched on that you want us to do like a solid hour on, like a deep dive, we would be more than happy. But we do we do have um, we have lots of topics. There this industry is endless.

SPEAKER_01

So it is endless, it is always evolving.

SPEAKER_00

Um but if there's something you want to see, like, you know, now, let us know. Let us know. We are at the beauty files pod on Instagram. Just saying. You can email us. Oh, yes. Hang on. What is our email? It's the hang on, I'm gonna tell you. I think it's why you gotta put me on the air like that. Hang on. It is I'll find it. It's somewhere. Fill the airtime. Okay, it is beauty filespod at outlook.com.

SPEAKER_01

There we go.

SPEAKER_00

So to to share the difference, uh, Instagram is the Beauty Files, right? And then our email is just beauty files pod. Yeah. So we were not able to get the same line all across the board because you know, people have dreams. And apparently it was someone else's dream to have this, and they still have that that handle or that email. Um, okay. Next week.

SPEAKER_01

Next week we'll be back, and uh hopefully we will uh have some interaction and we can answer some of your questions.

SPEAKER_00

Um we can do that too if you have a question. If you have a question you want us to read on uh the podcast and answer it, that'd be kind of fun. Yeah. We could do that. Absolutely. We love interactions, so uh, we're here for it. Keep engaging, keep supporting, and stay beautiful. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. With that being said, case closed.

SPEAKER_02

Case closed.
