So I had an event on whatever day that was. This past Sunday. This past Sunday. And yeah, it did. I mean, honestly, it's like shame on me because it was my first event with this with this group, and and they said they they tend to do like complimentary services to get people like interested and to book later and all that, which I get. And I I love that. I understand that. What I wish I didn't do was what I did. So um I did complimentary undertone draping and determining jewelry metals, you know. And I I honestly I think I saw 70 people. I mean, I had a line for five hours straight of just it was like a machine. It was almost like comical because I had people coming up to me, like asking me if I need water. So um, so I had some poor planning because I told you just before we started, I draped one of the vendors before we started because she wanted to do it, but that signaled to everyone that I was ready. So I had I didn't have like any note, like any um you needed contact information.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you needed like a piece of paper so that people could just put their name, their phone for email, so that way you can make a list and send it out.
SPEAKER_01So I had these little cards, and thankfully, shout out to uh Beth, because Beth is an ambassador for this group. Um she oh thank you. Rachel just handed me a coaster. We're having Aperol spritzes. Um anyway, um, she was like here. She just read the room, took my stuff and started like passing it out. But then I ran out, ran out of cards, ran out of business cards. I mean, it was just mental.
SPEAKER_02Has anybody contacted you yet?
SPEAKER_01Or like I have a bunch of new followers, so I'm I'm taking that as a positive. I'll get to the negative in just a moment. Um, but still continuing to ride on the the high here. Um my car is all packed up. Okay. I'm seeing you tomorrow. And then after my appointment, I'm moving in. Yep. An afternoon with Amy.
SPEAKER_02She uh was going too exquisite. Tessa was going through and like getting stuff out and moving stuff around.
SPEAKER_01I told her when I was coming in.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Um, and we can move whatever else you need to around because we have to rearrange stuff in there anyways. It's all good. Um I'm excited. It's gonna be great. Looks cute in there. We took out the one chair because everything in there is like the beige and we have accent like the green and the and the gold.
SPEAKER_01I got a new rack.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Just didn't even like consider anything, and I opened it and set it up, and it's black. Oh, guess what?
SPEAKER_02We have spray paint. Oh. We have the color that we have on the accent color for our sign. We have like five bottles of spray paint.
SPEAKER_01Let's do it tomorrow because that's fine. Yeah. Anyway, okay. So that's where I'll be. And by the way, you guys, you just have to come and and make an appointment and see because Rachel got this chair, is so cool. Like, I I'm gonna do like a whole Instagram series of in the chair.
SPEAKER_02I did I did a good job, didn't I? Everyone actually lives it a lot. They're like, damn, you did good.
SPEAKER_01I was like, oh. And people are so opinionated, which we'll get to our topic today as well. But um, anyway, so back to I'm staying positive at the moment. Okay. So I'm moving in tomorrow, so that's exciting. So I I uploaded or up, what do you call that? I went live on my website. So like I'm having announcements while I'm riding the wave of all the people that I saw. Um, but I have to say, like that night I felt really good, right? Felt like, oh my gosh, I got all this like practice and just you know, seeing that many faces and doing undertone in under five minutes is it was great. Like I was feeling feeling good. But then uh the next day, I felt icky because I'm like, I just gave away this part of the secret to what I do for free. Yeah, and I I was talking to some people in my um my group of who I like was certified with. I'm gonna say graduated. I guess I graduated, we'll say that. Um, and they had the same experience. They said they no longer do free because it never leads to anything. And I'm like, well, I hope that's not true. Um and then uh, you know, there is a little bit of a take. One of this is a hot take, everybody. So sorry if anyone's listening. My um instructor said, Can I ask you a question? I said, Well, where's this going? Okay. She's like, is the person who's in charge of this a woman? And I said, Well, yeah, it's for women. It's a it's a women empowering women. And she's like, Yeah, they're the only groups that ask women to do free services. Yeah. She says, I never have this issue when it's men. I never have this issue when my husband's in the room and I'm talking to somebody and they want me to do a even a charity event. She's like, you know, she goes, charity's a little bit different, but like that's not what this is. Not to mention I had to pay to be part of this group. So I'm just I'm not saying it's a bad group. I'm just saying I need to be a little smarter. Yeah. So for my next event, I will be doing a free digital guide, a guide that I made, feel really good about it. I did a little QR code and I put it on a poster, and it's got my face, and and then if you want to do undertone, I will be happy to do it for a little bit of salt and saltin' so that I'm not as you should.
SPEAKER_02So we just did a giveaway for postpartum moms. Um which honestly, like doing something like that every once in a while for me is a really good feeling. Now, you can't do that all the time. Um, in the beginning, you do it a lot. I'm not gonna lie, in the beginning, you do a a lot more free things, a lot more discounted things. That makes sense, yes. And you do just so that you can get visibilities to get your name out there, to get people in the door. Um, because honestly, who doesn't like free? Oh, yeah, definitely. Everybody wants something for free. Um, and it it doesn't mean that what you're providing is bad or it's not good enough or anything like that. It's just a way to to really get yourself out there and get people to know who you are.
SPEAKER_01Um and that that makes sense, right? But then after a certain point, like you said, like, okay, well, you're a business. You are a business.
SPEAKER_02So, like, for me, so we did just do that, that postpartum mom thing, which is really nice to do. Um, the next thing that we want to do, because I haven't done it in a while, um, and it does make me feel really good because we have a lot of this. Um, we're gonna do um eyebrows for cancer patients.
SPEAKER_00You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02Because um, Shannon, who you met, she met me because Beth years ago volunteered her when I did a free giveaway and I wanted to know why they were nominating this person and like the reason behind it, and she was the person that got picked, and she has been with me ever since. And so like it was a great experience um for me. Shannon, I love Shannon, um, and she doesn't she wouldn't care if I talk about her. I mean, she she um I'm gonna tell her to listen this, but every time she tips me on uh Venmo, she's always like laxatives, or she just says random shit like that, and I'm just like, really, girl, thank you, but really I love that.
SPEAKER_01I have I did an event. Is it actually it was actually that's funny? It was someone else that Beth knows. And she when she tipped me on Venmo, she put pizza, yeah. So I was like, this is like right at like the whole like pizza gate, like all these things. I'm just like, oh my god. Yeah, but it was so funny. It is. I love that. Um, I think that is amazing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's really cool. I think that, yes, when you say like women are always asking other women to do things for free, but yeah, you have to pay for events and like our event that we have coming up, we're not asking vendors for money. Like, we just want like community and we want to support each other. And I do understand, like, yeah, everybody has to make money somehow, somehow. Um, but the goal is is that you can get enough people when you have all those vendors, and those people will go see you and others, and you'll gain access and put yourself out there through that, which will make you money.
SPEAKER_01I understand charging when I don't know, when the host is doing above and beyond. Right. You just crack your knuckles. I did.
SPEAKER_02I did. I'm sorry. I just want to, you know, I just had to. It was like bugging me.
SPEAKER_01I crack my neck. Like, let's see if I can get the I did that earlier, so it's just um that's amazing. Um anyway, you know, if the if the host is going above and beyond with with some sort of presentation or an element that is like, oh, you know what? I don't like I don't know if I can recoup this if everyone's gonna benefit. I might I might see that. Like I'm doing uh actually speaking of events, um, real quick, everybody. Uh next Friday. Yes. If you live in York or near it and you don't even have to like baseball, because I'll be there. Um, the revs. Yep. The revs, that's just what they're called. The revs game, they're having a ladies' night.
SPEAKER_02And I think it starts at it starts at uh six to nine, but we're getting there. We have to be ready by five.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_02Um we will also be there.
SPEAKER_01Um I did ask to be near you.
SPEAKER_02So I hope that they I'm sure they will.
SPEAKER_01Will uh we're gonna be there, and then of course, obviously uh Exquisite Men Spa is hosting an event September 11th. That's a Friday. So that's two, is that two Fridays in a row? No, there's a space in between. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02There might be there's two. Is there two in between? Yes, there's two in between. Yeah, because there's two.
SPEAKER_01You're right. Um, and then that following or that weekend is gray apple market, which I'm gonna need help. I just don't know.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna probably I'm gonna I'm gonna make it happen. I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna But I did also hear you can take your tent and set up that night. So there's like an hour that you could set up that it's when we're done, after we're done. Okay. So like you could have.
SPEAKER_01Or I can make my husband do that since I'll be with you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But you I heard that um one of my other clients who's also gonna go, she's gonna be there. Okay. And so she was like, Yeah, we're just gonna take and set up after we're done here. Oh. And you I'll I'll introduce you. She's super nice. You'll love her too. She's so sweet.
SPEAKER_01If you're not familiar, Greyapple Market is a two-day event. Yes. And it's in like a field. It is in a field. We will be in the big old field. We'll be rough in it. I'm gonna get like a like a carpet, like a rug. So not on the grass. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I don't like grass. Yeah, I mean grass is.
SPEAKER_01Well, we know you don't like grass because you you're a little bit.
SPEAKER_02Well, do you say like everything, but I mean it is what it is. So but anyway, so the those are the events. We also have so Tessa is doing Tessa's doing permanent jewelry. So she has a couple at Dotties coming up also. I know there's one in October. Um, I forget what date that one is. Um we haven't signed up for any more injection or um B12 or anything like that as of yet. Um, we will probably do another one. I'm not quite sure when. Okay. Um we'll let you know where we where we're gonna go. There's another one coming up. It's like a spooky night. Which you might have to do. Oh, I saw that.
SPEAKER_01I'm not going because I wasn't invited, but that's probably okay.
SPEAKER_02We might be able to get you on a well.
SPEAKER_01Let me know when it is and I'll let you know. Because I'm getting a little scared. Looking at all these events, I'm like, oh god. Yeah. So my my um my just energy levels. I'm gonna have to start B12. I don't know. I guess so. Well, it's not even it's it's the um anxiety. What do you call that? Like the drain. Although I have to say, I was not drained after that five-hour straight event. I didn't even have a headache. But you didn't have time. I think I think so. I I honestly I was very, I was very surprised, but I am very proud of myself. And after doing that event, it got me thinking that today we should talk about some spicy takes on client etiquette. Oh, yeah. Because you've you've had a couple uh funny things, well, maybe one. I don't know, this week. There's always something.
SPEAKER_02There's but you always have something. Yeah. Um I actually had I had a couple of things actually happen this week with clients personally. Um that were good, not necessarily both. I mean it could have been bad. I'm also trying to not let things get to me the way they used to. And trying to tell your secrets. Yeah. Um, especially like right now, there's I got a lot, I got a lot going on in my head up here. And um for all of you that don't have kids, just count your blessings. Or or if your kids are already out of school, you know, because we're we're also in the thick of it with trying to get in all the doctors' appointments and back to school shopping and haircuts and braces coming off. Oh wow. Tomorrow morning. Have to be there at 7 15 in the morning to get his braces off after almost two three years. Sorry, almost three years that he's had those on.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh, that's so exciting. Oh, he's gonna be so handsome for high school.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, I know, and then he's going to high school.
SPEAKER_01Oh, baby. High school no braces, though, is is a flex.
SPEAKER_02I mean, he's he is excited about it, but so you know, all the things are happening. It really is. And they go back soon, right? So mine start on the 20th.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02So that's next Thursday on his birthday, which he's not happy about.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, I don't know how I feel about that.
SPEAKER_02And unfortunately, if it wasn't his first day of his freshman year in a high school, I probably would be like, eh, you don't really have to go, but uh that's that's a little special. It's a little special. Yeah. Unfortunately. I'm like, I'm so sorry.
SPEAKER_01He'll he'll view it differently maybe. Maybe next year. When he's like 27. He'll be like, Oh yeah, that's pretty cool what my mom did. Maybe. Not likely, but you know.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna I'm gonna try to make sure like there's like a big old cake or something. Oh, yeah, well, don't say he listens, right? Sometimes he does, not always. Okay. I don't think he has lately. He hasn't said anything. Okay. So we'll see.
SPEAKER_01Well, I'll kick it off because this is something that ha what what prompted this is what happened to me at my most recent event and at one at your event, like I don't know, a few months ago. Okay. And that is this is for the client, mind you, okay? This is just some love. I'm a client myself. You're a client in in most respects. Like we're this is this is a two-way. Everybody is a client in some aspect. This is facts. So this is specific to the beauty industry slash color analysis adjacent. Not sure what to call it, but and the the one I'll start off with because it's just there's a story. If you think you know more than the person whose chair you're in, you have two options. You can either A, don't get in the chair, correct? Or think again. Because I had two lovely ladies, they got in my chair, the one girl, it was like um Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Okay. It was like but but like toned down. I don't even like okay, in this case, Dr. Jekyll was like bubbly and happy and very open and like, oh my gosh, I've always wanted to do this. This is so amazing, right? And we had a ball, it was great. And then her friend came, and her friend, Mr. Hyde, was like not talking, not responsive, not giving me any tells whatsoever, just sitting in the chair, and I can see you because I'm behind you and we're both looking in a mirror. Right. I watch every time I did anything, she does this glance at her friend. And I'm like, you know, I mean I didn't say this, but I'm like, you know, I can see you. Like, what's on your mind? Like you're you're just stonewalling. I mean, there is no I I do like different like undertones, and I mean, I'm seeing things, waiting for her to see it, and she just gives this glance every time I make any kind of judgment. And I'm like, it's okay. You don't have to agree with me, you don't have to agree with the nutty lady that's behind you with the drapes. Like, I'm trying to like make jokes and whatever. Nothing. Oof. And I'm just like, what? Like, what why are you here? If you don't want to be here, you don't want to do it, you don't agree with me, you don't what? And then that was it. She got up, and I mean nothing, no thank you, like no haven't, and her friends like, bye, thanks so much. It was so weird. And I was, and of course, can you guess which one I thought about for like the last like 72 hours? Not the bubbly one, I can tell you that. Yeah, and every other person, no, not even every other, just every person I had other than her was delightful. But it's the fact of like you're gonna give looks to your friend right in front of me, and I can see it. Same thing happened with two ladies at your one of your open houses. Um same thing, doing doing the undertone and all the things, and I can just again, I'm like, I'm behind you. We're looking in the same mirror. Like, I I'm not sure. Like, I mean I don't know what these glances are mean because I'm like, I I her friend is seeing it, I'm seeing it, like I anyway. But I just remember being like, are we not aware that I'm here in the room? So anyway, so that was my that was my first spicy take. Is either don't sit in the chair because there's no point, you're not gonna agree with anything, or think again because I was right. Mm-hmm. I'm doing the get of snaps, okay? Anyway, okay. Or at least be nice about it if you don't agree with me. But don't just stonewall me. Oh, do you hear that?
SPEAKER_02That was my angle.
SPEAKER_01That was by accident. I I have to talk about my MRI. Didn't even get to talk about that either, because I'm old now. Um, okay. Being late affects everyone after you. So like not only you're you, yes, you you're gonna be affected, but for some reason it's never about them. It's everything else. It's well, I'm running late, but I'll I'm on my way. I'm coming. And you're like, yeah. And I have like a hundred people after you, so we're either gonna shorten your service or I can't see you. So tell me more about your late policy.
SPEAKER_02How how you know so strict this happened to me the other day. Um, it actually happened to me on Monday. I had a couple of things happen on me on Monday, um, and the client has been a client of mine for a long time. And she has notoriously no showed. Okay. Or woken up seriously late and been like, I'm so sorry, I'm really late. I'll try to come in. Or I'm so sorry, can you reschedule me? Um I have been notoriously generous because the duality here. I know I you know, I might come off as a hard ass, and sometimes I am. It just depends. It just depends on like how genuine I think you really are. Um, and and that might sound bad, but honestly, guys, we can tell, like, and I know like when you truly didn't mean to, and then I can tell when you're like, yeah, I just I love her. You know what I mean? Like or I got, you know, whatever. You were just being douchey. Um, I'm sorry. Like, let's be honest. Um, I called her and she didn't answer the first time, and then I sent her a text, and then I was like, you know what, I'm gonna call her one more time. And she was like, I'm so sorry, what time is it? And she's like, I overslept. I I'm coming right now. I only had 30 minutes by the time she got there. Um, but I did charge her for the full time because it was still my time. That's true. And um, it is not her first time, it's not her second time, it's not say her 10th time, it's probably her 20th time, so um, it could be more because she's been a client of mine for 12 13 years, so like well, I guess what I was about to ask maybe changes maybe it changes client to client.
SPEAKER_01But do you ever feel which is so funny, but do you ever feel icky for handing them like the total when it's the price?
SPEAKER_02And yet it's not your fault, right? And I I do feel bad. Um I don't like doing it. I also don't like it when people try to negotiate with me. Um, I've had well, I was only and I'm like, and yet I had time blocked out for you for this long that I could have had somebody else in, which I ac actually could have. It's a boundary, it is boundary. Yeah. Um most of the time I'll do what I can in the time frame that I have and charge you for that time. Um I've been late. I'm certain of it. And I don't, again, like I don't like I don't like doing that, but when you're in this service and this is how you make money, this is how you pay your bills, this is how you feed your kids, this is how you put clothes on your back, this is how you keep your lights on at your facility, this is how you pay your employees. Um over time will change your perspective um and make you go like as much as you love that person, as much as you genuinely appreciate them and you love seeing them, um, there is also this is also business. You need the money. I mean you you need the bunny and that's why you're here. Um it's a you problem. It's a you problem. And sorry, not sorry.
SPEAKER_01What's the if you can think of one, what is the craziest or most out there excuse you've ever gotten?
SPEAKER_02Oh, I had somebody tell me like they got in a car accident like three times in a row. Um and then and then their aunt died like three times.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_02So I mean it's wild out there. It it is uh it's a little wild and crazy.
SPEAKER_01Well, still this overlaps, so this is fine. And hold that note, because the second one I have was a cancellation policy still applies even when your reason is really good. The provider still lost that time. So here's the if you agreed to the policy when booking, getting angry when it's enforced is bad etiquette.
SPEAKER_02So I had this happen. Um, a client booked an appointment. They did it in April. Okay. And it wasn't for until October. It was a deposit that they had put down, booked this appointment, and um, because of what I'm going through right now, um, I kind of was like bleeding heart. It just like I felt really bad, but she called and she was like, so I want to cancel my appointment. Let me know, you know, about my refund. Yeah. So we have a booking fee, and because it books out a lot of time, um, it we say like it's non-refundable, it's you know, non-transferable, you don't get it back. There's other reasons behind this, guys. So I want you to really think about it. Um, and uh Amy really hasn't experienced this a whole lot yet. Um, but you guys have to understand transactions. First of all, we are charged a fee. So we're charged a fee as soon as you run that card. We don't get that full amount. So let's say it's $25. We only might get maybe $22.50 of that. Okay, so right there. Now it that's sitting there. So months have gone by. So whether that went towards an employee and you paid them a portion of that when that went through, whether that was for a product, whatever it may be. Then if you call and you cancel, so you're losing that time slot, regardless of when it is that's coming out of your book, then you're asking for a refund. Well, guess what, guys? Most credit card companies actually charge you another fee to do a refund. So what happens is that company now is in the negative.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay. So now you have taken more money from that company than you have given. And people do not realize this. So make sure that you understand like you're doing a deposit because it's for somebody's time. And most of the time it's for something that is really expensive. So maybe they need a portion of that because they don't keep it in stock all the time. Or they want to hold you accountable. Or hold you accountable for your appointment. Yeah. Um, whatever it may be. So, anyways, she called, she left a voicemail. She said that she found this service somewhere else and it was cheaper. And she wanted uh it was like a double service, okay? So I'm not gonna get into what it is or anything like that. Um so because of the situation, I was like, okay, well, call her back and just say, like, we can hold it. Like she has gotten other services here, we can hold it for her and we can put it towards another service. Now, again, this goes against the policy, but right now, just I'm like, you know.
SPEAKER_01And just because Rachel's saying this does not mean that's what's gonna happen to you. So don't even try it. Don't even try it.
SPEAKER_02So our manager called her and let her know, like, hey, this is the situation. She asked, Well, how much is it for these two together? Like, what do you guys charge? And we had a discount. I said, just offer it to her, um, see what she says, and we'll go from there. So she did. And the woman came back and was like, Oh my gosh, thank you so much. This is great customer service. I truly appreciate it. I would love to book both services and continue and get them done with you. So it made me feel good um that I went out on a limb. Um, I do know this person, I appreciate them. I appreciate all of my clients. Like I value every single one of them. And you never want to lose somebody or make somebody angry because it's not a good feeling. And then when somebody comes back and then is talking badly about it, it's one of the worst things that can happen because people can be happy with a service and never tell you where they go. But if somebody is unhappy with a service, they're gonna tell you exactly where they go, and a hundred people will know. So I hate that, but it's true. It is a very true statement. Um, and I have found that sometimes um it's better to just kill people with kindness and pray for the best and hope that you know your karma, your good karma will come back. I've been trying to do that more often than not because I think that you will gain a better reputation, a re better understanding, um, and you'll become a better person and a better business if you do those things.
SPEAKER_01I call it called what emotional intelligence. Yeah. I think that's so hang on, hang on, all right. Jeez. That was good. It was I feel like you're preaching today. Um, okay, switching gears a little bit. Uh, it is not good client etiquette if you're bringing an entourage of people without asking for your treatment. Small small treatment rooms are not group outings. Has this happened to you? Is this common?
SPEAKER_02It has happened. Um we do encourage people not to bring their kids with them.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna say mostly kids. When then when we say entourage, have you seen like, oh my gosh, I'm gonna bring all my girlfriends to see like what they think of my new lips when I get it done? Like, have you seen that? Typically, it's about two.
SPEAKER_02I wouldn't say that it's any more than that. Um, you know, permanent makeup, it's happened before. Um, here's the thing just like with yours, nobody knows your skill. Yeah. Unless they have done it, right? Most of the time, that person is not gonna be in the room with you, like somebody else who's doing the same skill unless they're learning as well. Unless they are apprenticing and they're trying to learn from you. So everybody's gonna have their own opinion about what looks good and what doesn't look good, what they find attractive, what they don't. And when you bring a bunch of people with you and you try to get a bunch of opinion, it's like wedding dress shopping. Yes. Okay, let's say yes to the dress. Say yes to the dress. Yes. You may envision yourself in something and you may be like, this is what I want. And then you bring a bunch of people with you who are like, first of all, they would never put their belt their selves in a dress like that to begin with. They don't think that it's a nice looking dress. And they have an a vision of you that is not what you want, not what you pictured. Um, and so you're going to feel confused. You're going to feel upset. You're gonna think that it's not good enough. Yeah. So when you do that, you need to keep that in mind. This is not wedding dress shopping, but you could have that experience.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and you could leave with either too much or not enough, or filler in a place you wouldn't, you didn't think, and then you have and maybe the artist really would never have done that had somebody else not been pressuring them.
SPEAKER_02That is one thing I have learned as an artist, too. Um you want to make everybody happy, but if you are looking at somebody and you're like, I would never want to put that on your face, but you do it because you're being pressured, it's still your name on it. I was gonna say, who's at fault here? You still have to know boundaries, and that's really hard to do when you have other people around pressuring you or saying like you should do this or you should do that.
SPEAKER_01So would you prefer kids over friends?
SPEAKER_02Correct. I would prefer children over friends every day.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's fair. That's fair. Um, okay. Um I have this little this little tidbit for any hairstylist out there because I just think this one's hilarious. But anyone that wants a discount on a haircut because it's quote just a trim, that's like I've heard that like time and time again. And they're just like, and I guess for people that are like, why what's wrong with that? Okay, it does not matter the amount of hair that you are cutting and still doing a haircut. Have you ever tried to trim your own hair? Because it can get wonky really fast, especially with layers. We've all seen bang cuts like gone wrong, like fringes gone wrong. Um there's a reason you're in the artist chair and you're gonna pay. And not to mention they're also likely uh shampooing, blow drying, styling, like get over yourself. I just I'm not even in that industry, and I find that infuriating. Yeah, yeah. Um, okay. Another um just a little phrase that maybe friends use more. You'll have to let me know. Okay. Is can you just squeeze me in? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Can you just squeeze me in, Rach? So that's another thing that just happened. We had somebody literally text. It wasn't me, I know that. I had well, I had somebody do it today too, and I did squeeze her in. Um, she asked me. Um, but then this other one was like a big no. She texted, I don't remember what day she texted. I don't know if it was I don't know if it was Monday or Tuesday. Is either Monday or Tuesday? Um and was like, I need a full set of lashes on Thursday in the morning. Was very specific. And Tessa, my office manager, she looked at the phone and laughed and she goes, Who does she think she is? Was this a new or existing client? It was somebody I hadn't seen in a long time. Wow, it had been a while, and she's like, that's not happening. Oh man. I guess okay, so the look on the look on Tessa's face when she said it and she just kind of like laughed, I could have just peed my P. It was hysterical because she was like, Who do people think they are? Like, well like no.
SPEAKER_01No, like, no, just no. Okay, so hold on, because you said you had someone say, Can you squeeze me in? And you you didn't do it today. So tell me, is there a right way? Was it truly just by chance you could fit them in? Because now you have people that are hopeful. They're like, Oh, I guess I should ask that because sometimes someone will say yes.
SPEAKER_02Here's the thing. This is what I tell people all the time. So I do my son. If you don't ask, you don't know. What's the worst thing they're gonna do? Is say no and you're gonna be in the same scenario you're already in. Oh, that's true. So it really just comes down to how you ask it too. Like it'll be how you ask it, but like also, what are you asking for? Like, how much time is that gonna take? Yeah. So, like, if somebody says, Hey, can you fit me in for a half hour sometime? There's a good chance that I'm gonna do that.
SPEAKER_01Quote unquote squeeze you in.
SPEAKER_02Which I literally had to squeeze her in.
SPEAKER_01Friday. I just has to be between at 8:30 and and I'm getting this, and that's that's an issue. Not gonna happen more than we're gonna do. You have to be flexible if you want the um the service provider to be flexible. Right. So it takes it takes both.
SPEAKER_02I am willing to flex for somebody who's willing to flex for me. Now, granted, I never I will say, like, I am one of those people, I will come to work if I'm dead. Probably. Um, you know, unless it's my kids, I'm probably gonna be there. And depending on what's wrong with my kids, I might tell them to to suck it up, buttercup, because you're fine. I gotta go. You're fine. Like, uh, you know, they'll try to play those games too, and I'm like, eh, uh wrong.
unknownI know.
SPEAKER_01Have you ever not believed your child and then something was actually wrong?
SPEAKER_02Um, I've not believed my child, sent them to school, got a phone call, laughed at the nurse, said give them some Tylenol, and sent them back. And then later that night they got sick. But that day, they were seemingly okay. It's like pre-sick.
SPEAKER_01That's like, do we really want to lean into this stuff? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And and did I feel a little bit shitty about it? Yeah, I did. But when you know your kids and you know what they look like, like when they're truly sick, yes, you get it.
SPEAKER_01It's like it's the greatest like superhero um feature. It's like mom's intuition of being able to read your children. When something's wrong.
SPEAKER_02It's like the knowing and and like I know that about my kids. Like, I can literally look at them and be like, mmm, yes, yes. Something's not good. And sometimes you know before they do, right? Yeah, and so I'm pretty good at that, and I can also kind of tell, but you know, you're not gonna fool me when it comes to like a homework assignment. It's what they do, it's normal. You're not, and even if you want to fake going to the nurse, like I used to fake sick all the time.
SPEAKER_01There must have been something going on in my life in around fifth grade and sixth grade because I was literally pulling my hair out. I'm pretty sure now, like looking back, I have for sure some sort of OCD.
SPEAKER_02It's like a You had trichotillomania. That you can't say that. Trickotomy. Trichotomania. Trichotillomania. Yes. That sounds kind of an anxiety disorder. It's an anxiety disorder.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's a hundred percent correct. And I had cyclical vomiting syndrome, but that didn't come until after the hair pulling stopped. I just found a different way. Correct. I'm awesome, you guys. Anyway, so I'm super um dealing with it, but um that is when it started, but I was faking sick like all the time at school. And I think I was only convincing one of my teachers kind of caught on. And then and then I would go to the nurse and I would go in the bathroom, or they gave me this big bowl because they're like, well, she's sick, she's gonna throw up. Right. And I remember sitting in the nurse's office, and a child across from me, I'm in like sixth grade, did throw up in one of those things, and I was like, I think I'm good.
SPEAKER_02Went back to class. You're like, I got this, it's fine.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but yeah, I uh yeah, something was going on with me. But anyway, that's that's all that's for another podcast. That's gonna be the OCD, anxiety, trick to ADHD. Wait, wait, wait, yes, ADHD.
SPEAKER_02All the trichotillomania.
SPEAKER_01Trichotillomania. It's gonna be called the trichotillomania mania. What's extravaganza Guys? It's so fun to figure out what's wrong with you in your late 30s and early 40s. Like it's just it's a goal. I think I just don't get that old. Don't get that old. Yeah, right. I just found out that my niece has cyclical vomiting syndrome. Do you know how excited I was?
SPEAKER_02You're like, it's not just me.
SPEAKER_01I think I well, thankfully, I don't have any more. This really should be for another podcast, but let me put it this way. I hugged her, and I think I she was like, I have no idea why you're hugging. Like, why are we celebrating this? And I'm just like, she's somebody else. And I was so excited that um people like they know about it now. This was not a thing when I was quote unquote diagnosed. I was asked to do a study, and then it turns out because it wasn't a man, they didn't want to do it. They weren't doing the study on women at the time. Oh. Which is a real bummer because I stopped getting it right after I had my child. So I feel like it was kind of hormonal. I'm sure it was. Um anyway, but we're gonna do that's gonna be our next podcast. It's gonna be the anxiety extravaganza.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_01Or the a we'll figure it out. Working title. Okay, anyway, back to today's podcast. Thank you for the the commercial break. Um, okay, we did can you squeeze me in? Love that. Um, I don't have too much more too many more, but I was going to say. Well, this one kind of overlaps, but either way, I'll do this one instead. Inspiration photos for references are are helpful. They're not a guarantee. And you really, as the client, you need to understand that like the goal is to still look like you. And you're likely going to look like you because you can't unless you're doing like a facial transplant. Like it's just like know what you're asking.
SPEAKER_02The goal for procedures when you come in is an enhancement, guys. An enhancement does not mean that it's going to change your face. And you you don't you don't want that. Okay. Right. You want people to be like, hmm, something's different. Yeah, you can't do it. You look refreshed. Yes, yes. Something's something's different about you. You look good. I don't know what it is, but you look good. Or man, like your skin is just glowing today. Yes.
SPEAKER_01You know, um your skin is glowing today, by the way. Is it? Yeah. Well, good. You're welcome. I just I noticed it like straight away when I saw you.
SPEAKER_02Amy's hair is on point. Thank you. I didn't do it. She just she looks and she's got very juicy lips today. So, I mean, you know, there is that. It's dehydration. Go ahead. Um, but you want people to look at you and be like, wow, like you look super awake, you look super refreshed, like it's almost like you went to sleep and woke up five years younger. Um, that is the look that you want. That is the goal that you want. If you are going into a meds bar thinking that you were gonna come out looking 20 years younger, you did not walk into a plastic surgeon's office.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So that's what you need to consider. Um the goal is always to make you look more youthful, to make you stop the clock where it's at right now so you don't continue on the way you are.
SPEAKER_01Even if you do get a facelift, you are the you just have to go. The clock is still the clock starts again. So even if you get a facelift and you look 20 years younger, well, the clock just on your face anyway, went back. You're still you still need good skincare. You still need and likely you still need to pair it with filler and still need both facts because guess what, guys?
SPEAKER_02They're not taking those muscles away. Yeah, they're not adding volume. Is not helping either.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_02They're not adding volume in a facelift. Um, they might do a fat transfer, but that doesn't mean that it's going to take.
SPEAKER_01Exactly.
SPEAKER_02So you have to consider the reasons that you're going in. You have to be realistic about your goals. Hopefully, you find somebody who is realistic with you about expectations. Um, and if you need to go to multiple different places to get opinions, then do that. Um, I have people come in for consults. They don't necessarily book. They might call back a month later, they might call back a year later. That's okay. Like it's okay to get opinions. Um, so be comfortable, ask the questions, be confident in your decision, and uh be realistic with goals. I love that.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Let me let's uh well we talked about that. I'll just say it again. Don't ask for a discount just because you're a regular loyalty should go both ways.
SPEAKER_02It should. And here's the thing, guys. I'm gonna tell it, hey Amy, guess what? We have a discount on this service.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You know what I mean? Like, yeah, if they don't know, but they should, because you should be getting the emails, you should be paying attention. Like, we put like our discounts up. Like, hey, by the way, I know you really love this service. Like, do you wanna do it? It's kind of on sale. So, like, you know, sometimes you'll be that lucky person. Like, I had another client in, we did um a demo on something, and somebody couldn't do it, and I was like, hey, you want to do a demo? That was my favorite phone call, by the way. It says the best. You know, it's like sometimes, you know, you guys will be there at the right time, and like we weren't planning on doing that, but you're there and we're like, hey, you wanna do like that? The more you go, the more likely. I would do it for anybody. Like if I knew they were the right person at the right time, and like, yeah, so guess what? And you have the magic wand to do that.
SPEAKER_01I have a magic wand at that moment. It is only one way, it is not reciprocal. And I just anyway, okay. Like I said, this is gonna be spicy. Don't be cheap. All right. Um, this one's funny. Well, yeah, right. Being a paying client doesn't entitle you to unlimited time, revisions, favors, or exceptions. It's kind of adjacent, it's just basically special treatment, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean when you guys book, like you book for a specific amount of time. So Yeah. Exactly. That's what you're booking for.
SPEAKER_01Anyone who's a paid customer is an even playing field. Right.
SPEAKER_02Like if and sometimes with certain things, like you can get it done quicker. Like I I have time frames, my time frames for specific things are based off of the longest time that it would take me.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay. So if I have an appointment and it's booked out for two hours, that means that it has taken me two hours to do this procedure. That does not mean that it will take me two hours to do it on you. It just means that I have the time because I know that it has in the past taken me. You're always that wrong. Yes. Yes. And I want to make sure that if you are that person that I need that time frame for, I have it. So it doesn't mean that if I get done in an hour, hour and a half, hour and fifteen minutes, that I'm cutting you short.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_02It just means that you were an easier client for me to work on, and I was able to get that procedure done in a faster time frame than I was the last person. It doesn't mean that I want to get you out of there. It doesn't mean that you didn't get the same service. It just means that It went a little better that day. It went a little bit better that day. You were an easier client to work on. You were an easier patient.
SPEAKER_01Yes. And sometimes, like, you will say, like, I will be on your say in your bed. You'll be in my in my bed, baby. I guess I'm I'm on your bed. On the table. On the table, there we go. Um, and we're doing brows or whatever, and you'll say, Hey, I have time. Would you like me to wax? Like, yes. I love when you asked me that. But that's not every time. No, it's not every time. I'm not asking. It's usually, in fact, one time, you probably don't even remember this. One time you were doing I feel like this was a while ago, because I feel like I still had lashes on from the previous session of lashes with you. So you were putting lashes on, and I think I asked you if you do nose waxing. And you were like, I do. And I was like, Do you have time today? And you were like, I don't. And I was like, all right, fair. And that was that was an example. I asked. Yeah. Worst thing could happen. Can I video you? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Doing nosewax. Okay. Oh my god. It is. Guys, if you have never had your nose waxed, it is so pleasant. I know that sounds crazy, but it is such like everyone thinks it's gonna hurt so bad.
SPEAKER_01I've seen I've seen it done. I I shouldn't say that. I've seen it done on someone doing it at home. Right. And I was like, I am not doing that. Because it does when you're trying to pull one hair. Okay.
SPEAKER_02So you think that it hurts really bad. Okay. Okay. Well, you've seen those videos of where barbers stick them up. So they stick the the stick up their nose and then they yank it out, and these guys are like, oh. So what I will say is it's not painful. It doesn't hurt. It's not even as bad as like when you sneeze. It does make your eyes water just because it makes your eyes water.
SPEAKER_01Well, it's like it's waxing can do that.
SPEAKER_02It's just waxing in general. Um, but I did it on a client and she was terrified that it was gonna hurt, and I was like, I promise you it will not hurt. And everyone's like, don't listen to Rachel because she has a high pain tolerance. That's true. I do too, though. So this is actually, I trust you. I do have a high pain tolerance, but I'm telling you guys, like, this does not hurt. And the one day I was like, Tessa, so I stuck one up my nose and I was like, Tessa, pull it out. Because I don't love pulling them out just because I just don't love it. Like I can do it, but if I know somebody else is around, I'm like, just pull it out for me. Just just do it. This is hilarious. Okay. So I also have to giggle. I also have to giggle because I knew that she was like, I don't want to do that. I don't want to do it. And I was like, Tessa, just pull it for me. I just do it. So she did. And she was like, oh my god. She was like, that didn't hurt. I was like, no, I was like, look at all this. She goes, I can't look. I don't want to look.
SPEAKER_01Look, I know that I would be like her in that situation. If you are a person who needs an EV pen, never be alone with me. And whatever the item is. I couldn't babysit your child. You'd have to. I I don't think I could do it. I don't think I could. I don't think I could.
SPEAKER_02I don't think I could. Well, you need to get the the sniffy. The ni it's called the Nuffy.
SPEAKER_01What's that?
SPEAKER_02So the Nephi is um a nasal spray?
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_02Epinephrine. Okay. Um EpiPen. I could do that. But they're really expensive, and unfortunately, there's a lot of really dumb doctors out there that don't even know what it is.
SPEAKER_01Noted. You know the movie Pulp Fiction?
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01Do you know when Uma Thurman's character is like ODing?
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01And they have to do the needle in her. I mean, she'd be dead. I couldn't, I couldn't do that. Now I know that's like not an EpiPen, and that's like a really exaggerated example, but that's what I picture when I hear, hey, I have an Epi pen. I'm like, that's that's the image I get is that gigantic needle going right into Uma's chest.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, it's not. It's super tiny, just like an insulin needle. Yeah. And it's life or death. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Alright. I guess if it's life or death, look, I'm just I'm putting it up.
SPEAKER_02For my child, if he's stung by a honeybee, it's life or death.
SPEAKER_01Oh god, see, I can't. That's too stressful.
SPEAKER_02And he's outside. All the time. He has them with him everywhere. I have two on me at all times. Like it's just it's just uh it's just life, unfortunately. But you know. Sorry. It's better than a food allergy, I will say. I guess yeah, okay. It's better than a food allergy. I could see that. Because it's normally just certain times of year. Oh yeah, okay. Food is forever. Food is forever, all the time, 24-7. It's better than a food allergy. So um while you have to look at it and be like, oh my gosh, that's really scary. We are knowledgeable about it. We have them everywhere, everybody knows about it. Um, he knows about it, he understands it. It's only scary when you're not prepared. Right.
SPEAKER_01And that's pretty much we'll save that for our our anxiety episode, because that's the whole thing. Um, I mean, that's it. That's all I have for my for my list. Um go ahead.
SPEAKER_02So we were talking about clients today, and the one thing that um I didn't say because you were like how client experiences this week. So I had a client, she's come to me a couple times now. She was not my original client, but she was somebody else's, and then that person was not there anymore, and so she's like, Hey, I'll go to whoever, it's fine. Um it was funny because she's come to me like twice now, maybe three times, and um we've had conversations, and she was like, I didn't really know that you actually talked that much. Like I never really saw you talk. Really? And um I find it very interesting because I do know like when I'm in the office, sometimes I'm not super chatty or I hadn't been in the past, and people meet me and they're like, Yeah, I didn't realize that you talked or that you were actually like nice. And then she's like, and you have an incredible memory for the amount of people that you see on a daily basis. Um, she's like, I can't believe you remember that from seeing me like two months ago and asking me about that. Um and I found it very interesting because I it was kind of a little bit of a wake-up call that I need to make sure that I'm being very self-aware. Self-aware. Um, I am more of an introvert. I don't necessarily talk a lot. Um, and it doesn't mean that I don't like you. It doesn't mean that I don't want to have a conversation with you. Um, it just means that a lot of times there's so many things running through my head and um I'm hyper focused on what I need to do, and I'm usually back to back to back to back. Yeah. And or I'm, you know, in between trying to answer emails or or text messages from clients or, you know, whoever else I'm trying to talk to and do business stuff um that I'm not present.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Which is which is a big ask.
SPEAKER_02I I I get that. It is a big ask, but it kind of made me it also at the same time made me feel good because she was like, You're really nice. And like, I can't believe that you remember those things. And it made me feel really good that you remembered that about me, even though you don't see me that often. And I told her, you know, and and this is the one thing if you don't know about me, like I truly do care. And like my clients become my family, and um I remember these things because everybody's important to me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and again that the fact that you remembered is is what speaks for itself.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So I may not remember your name, but I remember your face, and I will remember your story every day. I may not remember your name. That's a lot of people though. I do feel but your story and what you tell me and about your family and what's going on in your life, that is something that I will remember. Um, and I am, you know, going to it's one of the things I need to add to my list. I'm like, you know what? I will take that and I will say, okay, this is something that I need to work on. I may not be able to change it overnight, but I will do my best to make improvements. And the one thing that I'm learning every day is that, well, if you didn't learn the last time from the last mistake, it's gonna keep happening. Yeah. So you better learn. Also very self-aware. You're you better learn and you better fix it now because if you don't, the same situation is gonna keep happening to you.
SPEAKER_01Oh, it's such sound advice. Yeah. That applies to pretty much everything. I think. Yeah. So we're gonna end on that because that was that was beautiful. Thanks. A spicy episode turned to something opposite. I'm not sure. Soft, I don't know. Empowering. Empowering. What's opposite of spicy? Not sour.
SPEAKER_02Because that was not sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet and spicy. Although they say sweet and sour, but you know, it's okay.
SPEAKER_01No, no. Sriracha and honey is one of the best combinations. Sour patch kit. No, Sriracha and honey. I do love sour patch kids. I used to eat those. I have one at home too. I can't. I I get like that um that raw, like I do too, but why not? Whatever hurts.
SPEAKER_02It hurts so good.
SPEAKER_01It does hurt so good. And we're gonna end on that because that's what we should end on. It hurts so good. This has been the beauty files. Case closed.
