Happy weekend. Oh, I hope you all are gearing up for your Oscar Watch party. Also of note, here on the East Coast, we have had a touch of spring, followed by the smack of tomosito. So this global warming thing is actually weird. Anyway, I'm Eric McKeever, I'm a writer, a podcast producer, and your host for What's the Buzz With Oscar, a podcast where I break down all the things award season. Well here we are, we are at episode 17 of What's the Buzz with Who's the One What? Part 3. On this week's episode, we're going to dive into the races for Best Actor and Best Actress. And also this past week, the Writers Guild of America held their award ceremony. Let's get into it. Now, the best actress race has always felt like it's between Jesse Buckley and Rose Byrne. So to help me and you with making a final prediction, I wanted to go through the list of best actress nominees and see which awards they've already claimed. We'll start with our frontrunner, Jessie Buckley from Haminet. Now she has taken home the BAFTA, the Critics Choice Award, the Golden Globe Drama, the London Critics Film Circle, awards from the Online Film Critics Society, San Diego Film Critics Society, which was actually a tie with Rose Byrne, the Actor Award, the Southeastern Film Critics Association, Vancouver Film Critics Circle, Phoenix Film Critics Society, Washington, D.C. Area Film Critics Association, North Texas Film Critics Association, St. Louis Film Critics Association, Alliance of Women Film Journalists, New York Film Critics Online, Iowa Film Critics, Denver Film Critics Society, Georgia Film Critics Association, Utah Film Critics Association, Oklahoma Film Critics Circle, Houston Film Critics Society, Women Film Critics Circle, North Carolina Film Critics Association, Phoenix Critics Circle, the Gold Derby Award, Awards from the Hawaii Film Critics Society, Philadelphia Film Critics Circle, Atlanta Film Critics Circle, North Dakota Film Society, Seattle Film Critics Society, Portland Critics Association, another tie, and this was with Roseburne and Timothy Chalamet because they award just lead performance, Critics Association of Central Florida, Minnesota Film Critics Alliance, UK Film Critics Association, Michigan Movie Critics Guild, New Jersey Film Critics Circle, and the Satellite Award Drama. Now, her biggest competition, and you know, it would be a phenomenal, it would be a phenomenal surprise if she won and an exciting one as well. Rose Byrne from If I Had Legs, I'd kick you, has taken home the Best Actress Award from the Boston Society of Film Critics, Chicago Film Critics Association, Dallas Fort Worth Film Critics Association, Florida Film Critics Circle, the Golden Globe Musical Comedy, Kansas City Film Critics Circle, Satellite Award Comedy, Los Angeles Film Critics Association, The National Board of Review, New York Film Critics Circle, San Diego Film Critics Society, a tie with Jesse Buckley, as I mentioned earlier, the Toronto Film Critics Association, and there she tied with Ethan Hawke because again they just honor lead performance, the Austin Film Critics Association, Boston Online Film Critics Association, AACTA International Awards, Latino Entertainment Journalists Association, Online Association of Female Film Critics, Greater Western New York Film Critics Association, San Francisco Bay Area Film Critics Circle, Portland Critics Association, again that tie with Jesse Buckley and Timothy Chalamet, and the Pittsburgh Film Critics Association. So there you go. Those two ladies, it's gonna be it's gonna be a race to see who wins between those two. But we shouldn't count out these other three nominees. And they include Kate Hudson or Song Sung Blue. She was a nominee for the Golden Globe, the BAFTA, and the Actor Awards, and has gotten uh several Critics Award nominations, but has had no wins. From the film Sentimental Value, Renate Rheinsve won the European Film Award and has gotten lots of Critics Awards nominations. From Bogonia, Emma Stone took home the Best Actress for the Dublin Film Critics Circle and also has gotten tons of Critics Award nominations. Moving on to our best actor race. Now, this one is really one that I'm excited to watch because I think any of the nominees could win. Is the Michael B. Jordan train going to stop short of Oscar night? Will the Academy want to reward the legend that is Leonardo DiCaprio? Has Timothy Chalamet's cheeky comments about the arts in his unconventional Oscar campaign been a help or a hinder? Or will Ethan Hawk or Wagner Mura sneak in and win? Well, let's break it down. So in the best actor category, Timothy Chalamet from Marty Supreme has taken home awards from the Critics Choice Awards, Chicago Film Critics Association, he took home the Golden Globe in the Comedy Musical, Actor category, Satellite Award Comedy or Musical, Las Vegas Film Critics Society, London Critics Circle, Vancouver Film Critics Circle, Austin Film Critics Association, North Texas Film Critics Association, Indiana Film Journalists Association, Denver Film Critics Society, Georgia Film Critics Association, Women Film Critics Circle, Phoenix Critics Circle, The Gold Derby Award, AACTA International Award, Hawaii Film Critics Society, Greater Western New York Film Critics Association, Critics Association of Central Florida, Minnesota Film Critics Alliance, and New Jersey Film Critics Circle. Not to be left out of this because I still think he has a shot. Leonardo DiCaprio for one battle after another has taken home awards from Dallas Fort Worth Film Critics Association, National Board of Review, Phoenix Film Critics Society, St. Louis Film Critics Association, Oklahoma Film Critics Circle, Atlanta Film Critics Circle, and Seattle Film Critics Society. Still deep in the race is Ethan Hawke as well from Blue Moon, taken home awards from Boston Society of Film Critics, Los Angeles Film Critics Association, National Society of Film Critics, Toronto Film Critics Association, and that was that tie with Rose Byrne, New York Film Critics Online, Women Film Critics Circle, New Mexico Film Critics, Columbus Film Critics Association, and the San Francisco Bay Area Film Critics Circle. Moving on to Michael B. Jordan from Centers, who over the last few weeks has really had a surge, so it's again, it's just making the race that much tighter. He's taken home awards from the NAACP Image Awards, accolades, and awards from Kansas City Film Critics Circle, Online Film Critics Society, San Diego Film Critics Society, the Actor Award, Southeastern Film Critics Association, Black Reel Award, Washington, D.C. Area Film Critics Association, Alliance of Women Film Journalists, Dublin Film Critics Circle, African American Film Critics Association, Utah Film Critics Association, Houston Film Critics Society, North Carolina Film Critics Association, Black Film Critics Circle, Philadelphia Film Critics Circle, Online Association of Female Film Critics, UK Film Critics Association, and Michigan Movie Critics Guild. And also still in the race and could be, I think is a potential dark horse from the secret agent Wagner Mura, took home Best Actor from Cannes, took home the Golden Globe for Drama, also won the Satellite Award, New York Film Critics Circle, Boston Online Film Critics Association, and the Latino Entertainment Journalists Association. And additionally, I didn't include them here, but he's taken home Best Actor from several international film critics festivals around the globe. Well, these two races are sure to keep those watching the Academy Awards on the edge of their seat. I know I'm really excited to see who wins these two categories. And my final predictions are for actress. You know what? I'll break it down in the next segment. I'm not going to tell you now. But before we wrap up this episode, I wanted to give a shout out to Ryan Kugler, writer of sinners, and Paul Thomas Anderson, screenplay writer for one battle after another for their wonderful wins at the Writers Guild of America Awards. Kugler took home the best original screenplay, while Anderson was awarded best adapted screenplay. I can't wait to watch. Next week's episode will be all about the winners, reactions, and how well I did with my predictions. Oh, I actually have to say them out loud, right? Uh oh, okay. Okay, here we go. Picture one battle after another with my maybe being sinners. Director. Now this one I went back and forth, but I am going to say Ryan Kugler, maybe my maybe being Paul Thomas Anderson. I I know, you know, I know that's a risky choice, but that's what my as my friend says, that's how what I'm feeling in my Kishkies. For actress, I'm pretty confident in this one, Jesse Buckley. For actor, I am going to go out on a limb and say Michael B. Jordan with a maybe of Leonardo DiCaprio or Wagner Mora. I think there's been a lot of like kind of low-key backlash against Timothy Chalamet because of apparently his Oscar campaign has been a little oddball, and then you know, his recent comments about opera and ballet, and folks have been up in arms. Anyway, moving on to supporting actor. I'm gonna say, and this one was tough, Sean Penn, but a maybe, a very close maybe, and I will scream if it does happen because it's so exciting just to think about. Delroy Lindo, he has come on huge over the last couple of weeks. And I think also people that didn't know who he was and that have looked back at his filmography are like, wow, this man has been around and is doing the thing and is just this distinguished career. And wouldn't it be such a cherry on the top of his career to give him the Academy Award? Moving down to supporting actress, I'm pretty confident in saying Amy Madigan, but I'm also gonna say a maybe, if my maybe is going to be, my maybe is going to be Tiana Taylor. For original screenplay, I'm sure I'm feeling Sinners has got that wrapped up for adapted screenplay. Again, one battle after another. And then finally, moving into our animated film, which I didn't really get into as far as all the awards, but it's been winning pretty much everything. So I feel confident in making this choice as well. K-pop demon hunters. Well, there it is. It's out there. Will I be right? Am I just all kinds of wrong? And finally, will you be wearing your fanciest, finest looks as you sit on your couch and watch? Oh, just just me? Oh, okay, fine.
