Mr. Lonely by Bobby Vinton is on the proverbial turntable, and Vinton began writing the song in the late 1950s while serving in the army. The lyrics describe a soldier who is sent overseas and has no communication with his home. The singer laments his condition and wishes for someone to talk with. The single of Venton's recording was released just as the Vietnam War was escalating in the mid-1960s, and many soldiers were experiencing a similar situation. Vinton's version was noted for his sobbing emotionally during the second verse.

The lyrics actually tell a story.

Royhead with Traitor Right qualifies to be included with our theme of silver selections, thanks to the Beatles, with yesterday. Because he was white, but his footwork included moves popular among African American gymnastic dancers. He was sometimes said to be a practitioner of blue-eyed soul.
