The Quest for Silver with Chris Tuffer
My show's moniker is The Quest for Silver - songs from a bygone era that were NOT number one but we fondly remember them and want to hear them and some of the stories around them. So if you are a fan of the best era in pop music you have come to the right place. I'm Chris Tuffer and I started broadcasting these old tunes back on the 1960's so I and you remember them well. Anything from The Beatles, The Stones, The Mamas and the Papas, The Monkees and well the list is almost endless. Please come by and check out my podcast with mostly music and a modicum of chatter.

It's a little green bag by The George Baker Selection to kick off a great collection of oldies this hour. A Stoney end is next performed by Barbra Streisand. The CCR and Down on the corner is just ahead of Foreigner with Hot Blooded. Next is Bob Seger with Still the Same. Bonnie Tyler has her smash hit It's a Heartache and then it's Nicolette Larson with Lotta love. More awaits you and we hope you enjoy.
This is The Quest for Silver with Chris Tuffer on Lifestyles 55 Podcasts Looking back on the track for a little green back.
SPEAKER_02Got to find just the kind I'll lose in my mind.
unknownLooking back on the track, I'll do it my way.
SPEAKER_03Look at the stair, look at the height Looking back on the track, put a little green back.
unknownGet the five just in back.
SPEAKER_04Looking back, hold a track, for a two. Looking back on the track, little green back.
unknownLook at the bigger.
SPEAKER_00On L fifty five, and I'm Chris Tuffer. You can call me Mr. T. We kicked off our show with a little green bag. Or green bag. Which was the intended name. But due to a confusion with the pronunciation of the word in the song, it was relinquished. It became the official title. It was possibly changed by someone who did not want any reference to Mary Jane. It was the sixties, remember? Well, George Baker selection from the Netherlands did very well. Whether you believe it should have been a little green back, or some sort of illicit reference, it was a hit then and certainly enjoyable now. Up next is a rather uncharacteristic selection of tunes by Barbara Streisand. She was known for her slow and sometimes overly romantic ballad. But this one was originally intended by the author of the song, Laura Nairo, as a gospel-infected upper tempo piece to be performed at a slower pace. However, the best known recording of Nairo's album version of the song was a hit for Barbara Streisand in 1970.
SPEAKER_04I was born in law, and my poor mother were the mind. I was raised on the football Jesus. Now I don't believe I won't be over.
SPEAKER_00Tom, who was the lead singer early on in 1959. As of the blue velvets, and later as of the Gollywood before settling on Green Underwater Revival in 1967. Tom had no problem admitting that his younger brother had that. So let's hear one of their many silver songs on L fifty-five in the Q for S with me, Mr. T. We are down on the corner.
SPEAKER_04Walking on the corner, try to bring you up. Down on the corner, out here in the street, playing a phone for the plane, bringing it up at the beat. And when it goes into a dance, double on the two down on the car, out in the street, playing the boat for the plan, bringing it up on the corner Out in the street, then about the plane, bringing it out every team You don't need a penalty, just to hang around. But if you've got a needle wrong to get your money down. Go on the corner, there's no come from all around to watch the magic board. Down on the corner, out in the street, playing the ball for the plane, bringing this up, happy beat, down on the corner, out in the street, bring up the plane, bringing his health happy beat. Down on the corner, out in the street, the plane, bringing his health, happy beat.
SPEAKER_00Foreigner is a big band with a long history of pleasing the throngs of people that love to come to their performances throughout the decade. Their biggest song was I Wanna Know What Love Is in 1984. And others were definite contenders. But then it's always contingent upon what else is in and around the musical scene. And that can make or break you. L55 from the Q for S has one of their many songs that missed the pinnacle of success and yet still live on. And get airplay, as we used to say. This is Foreigner and Hot Blooded.
SPEAKER_04Check it and see. I got a fever of a hundred and three. Come on, baby, do you do more than that? I'm hot-blooded, I'm hot-blooded.
unknownTo know what I have in mind.
SPEAKER_04What do you want to know? Now you move so far. Let me let you know the line. I wanna know what you're doing after the show. Now it's love to you. We can make a secret running boo you I'm sure you love you, Nabato. I'm a mugging breed. Come on, baby, do you do more than that?
unknownI'm hot blooded, I'm hot blooded. I'm a little bit high. You're a little bit high. You're making the thing.
SPEAKER_00Bob Seeger is a self-confessed centrist politically. As in he is a man in the middle. He's never sure until it's time to vote who will get his support. He has earned his recent retirement. As he is one of the most celebrated rockers of all time. He's an American rocker with 18 studio albums, two live albums, five compilation albums, and more than sixty singles to his credit. And his next silver play song is entitled Still the Same on L55 in the Q for S with me, Mr.
SPEAKER_04Tune You always want every time you play stuff. Just too damn good. No one's got into you yet. Every time, ever should I do come? You look quicker than ever.
SPEAKER_00Bonnie came to prominence with the release of her 1977 album, The World Starts Tonight, and its singles Lost in Friends and More Than a Lover. Her 1977 single It's a Heartache reached number four on the UK singles chart and number two on the US Billboard Hot 100.
SPEAKER_04It's a Hot A. Nothing but a Hardy Hits you when it's too late. Nothing but a fool's game. Standing in the cold ray feeling like a club. It's a heartache. Nothing but a heartache. Uh until your arms break. And he let you die. It ain't right. We love to share. When you find he doesn't care for you It ain't wise to need someone as much as I depend it on It's a heart of heart It's you and it's true
SPEAKER_00It's a foolish game Nothing but a foolish game Standing in the cold game on the clock It is why we love to share When you I it does share For you It is why As much as I like a long way to Nicolette Larson is our next performer on our quest for Silver, and this is her only top ten song. She narrowly escaped the moniker of a one-hit wonder as there were several songs in her career that hit the charts, but just enough, as they say. I think the lyrics of this song are close to the center of the target when examined with an open mind. Because without love, there is no hope. It's gonna take a lot of love to change the way things are, and it's up to each one of us to take the same tack to make it happen.
SPEAKER_04Nicolette Larson on Lifestyles 55 It's gonna take a lot of luck, change the way things are, it's gonna take a lot of luck, we won't get too far. So if you look in my direction, and we don't see eye to eye, my heart needs protection, and so do I It's gonna take a lot of look get us through the night. It's gonna take a lot of luck to make this work outright. So if you are out there waiting, I hope you show up soon. It's gonna take a lot of fun.
unknownIt's gonna take a lot of mud. It's gonna take a lot of wine.
SPEAKER_00If we consider it a segue from Nicolette wanting us to muster up enough love to change the world, then it's apropos that Andy Gibb enters and huddles up to the microphone to sing an Everlasting Love. Which, by the way, is written on his gravestone. It is a sad reality that Andy left us at the tender age of 30. But we are grateful to have this song to remember him on L55 from the Q for S with me, Mr. T.
SPEAKER_04I've been here all your life, watching the crying game. You were the heaven in my lower world, and he was your son in your rain.
SPEAKER_00I was losing you before I ever any time before you ever help me bend your wrongs, and I'll make it work Maybe and ever last down love I'm not I don't think I'll get one I get wake in the back wake up and wake up and love that wet Take me out of the cold Give me what I'm hungry for that's the pleasure I've taken my heart legend beat that it only makes me love you more I was just before the stones broke on you and mine I could have saved you all the bag you give me And I won't make you cry the man Stop stop I got a love I don't think I've got one of the biggest and most popular musicals You guessed it Greece and of course you largely into the two stars Olivia Newton John and John Travolta after sixty-six days$100 million to become Paramount's second highest grossing film behind the Godfather. Here we go with a song that was like the film second, according to the charts, but loved by fans worldwide. Olivia Newton John with John Travolta and Summer Night from the film Greece on L55 on the Q for S with me, Mr.
SPEAKER_04Tumble lovin' had me a blast. Summer lovin' had some fast. I'll met a girl crazier for me. Summer days drifting away to a couple summer night. Well ooh, tell me more, tell me more.
unknownDid you get married off? Tell me more, tell me more. Like that we have a food.
SPEAKER_04I hear fun, save the light, she will be trained, so before, tell me what we've got.
SPEAKER_00I cannot know precisely, which is obvious, but at least I can say that I did not know that Eric was born to a teenage mother and a Canadian soldier, who was stationed in England during World War II, who then returned to his wife before Clapton was born. And he never learned that he was Eric's father. Consequently, Eric was largely raised by his grandparents. He began playing his guitar in his teens. And after playing lead guitar with two minor bands in 1963, he joined the yard where all the rest of you probably know.
SPEAKER_02I know you've got somewhere to go.
unknownWon't you make yourself at home and stay with me?
SPEAKER_02And don't you care to leave? I'm resting my heart. Don't you think you want someone to tell you? You don't need to leave so soon. I've been trying all right now just to talk to you. Sun ain't nearly on the rise. We still got the moon and stars above. Underneath the velvet skies. Love is all that matters. Won't you stay with me? Don't you ever leave? I'm resting in my eyes. Don't you think you want someone to talk to? And no need to leave so soon. I've been trying all night long just to talk to you.
unknownSo don't you go and say goodbye?
SPEAKER_02You can lay your worries down and stay with me. Don't you can't believe? I'm rescuing now. Don't you think you want someone to talk to? There's no need to leave so soon. I've been trying all my lawn just to talk to you. I've rescued my house. Don't you think you want someone to talk to? I've been trying all my loud just to talk to you.
SPEAKER_00That is a great title for a great song. Why the pointer sisters thanks to the writing skill of Ruby Rings again. Lyrically, it is a simple song, but one that captures the indecision of a woman who seems to want her, and yet at the same time does not want a man. Well, when the pointer sisters sing the lyric fire, it's enough to sear your audio device. L55 and a Q for S with me, Mr. T and Fire.
SPEAKER_06But you know I'm alive.
SPEAKER_05Late at night, you're taking me home. You say you wanna stay. I say I wanna be alone. I say I don't love you, but you know I'm a liar. Had a hold on me right from the start.
unknownMy grip was so tight, I couldn't tear it apart. My nerves are jumping, acting like a pool.
SPEAKER_04Well, your pieces were burned, but my heart stays cool.
SPEAKER_01Samson and delight, baby, you can invent a love they couldn't deny.
SPEAKER_04My words say split, but my words they lie.
SPEAKER_00Alicia Bridges and I love the nightlife. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, and raised in the small Cleveland county town of Lawndale. Alicia Bridges from a very young age. Learning to play guitar at the age of the age of her own radio program. The Alicia Bridges show broadcast every Saturday on station WADA in LB, North Carolina. They were pretty rough places. But these were the only places I could get a performing experience. So I had to adjust to that rough environment and learn to survive in it.
SPEAKER_03Please don't talk about love tonight. Please don't talk about it. Please don't talk about being true and all the robot we ran through. Ah please don't talk about all the plans we had. I want to go where the robot stands. I want to give I want to give I want to get the board on the door I put the door on the door. When you got a women on the hole on the town, love and all the handle and I go down to the Dust in the Wind will bring us to the conclusion of our quest for silver today.
SPEAKER_00The group with that honor is Kansas. A somewhat aberrant song, according to their regular material. Out of the group's five subsequent top 40, only two would read out of the top 20 and play the game tonight. And all I wanted. And that's our show, folks. Another hour of Lifestyles 55 with me, Mr. T. I'm Chris Tuffer, saying, please be cool and stay warm.
SPEAKER_04Only for a moment, and the moment's gone. Oh my dreams pass before my eyes a curiosity. Same old song just a drop of water in it in the sea. All we do crumbles to the ground though we refuse to see all we are is just in the world. It sits on another minute by Just in the wind. All we are is just in the wind.
unknownEverything is just in the window.
