What if I told you, there's an animal that can jump six times its own height, hear sounds that people can't, and spend almost two-thirds of its life sleeping. SPEAKER_00Cats are incredible athletes, and today we're going to find out why. Let's start with one of their biggest superpowers.
SPEAKER_01Cats have amazing hearing. They can hear sounds that humans can't even detect. Really?
SPEAKER_00Yep. Their ears can rotate almost 180 degrees to pinpoint where a sound is coming from.
SPEAKER_01So their ears move like satellite dishes?
SPEAKER_00Exactly. That's how they can hear tiny mice rustling through the grass.
SPEAKER_01Now, have you ever wondered why cats seem to come alive at night? Yaa. They go crazy!
SPEAKER_00It sure seems that way. Cats can see in very low light because their eyes have a special layer called the topedum lucidum. Huh? It acts like a tiny mirror inside their eyes, reflecting light back through their retina.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's why their eyes glow in the dark. That glow helps them see when there's only a little bit of light.
SPEAKER_00Cats are some of the best jumpers in the animal world. They can leap about six times their own height.
SPEAKER_01I wish I could do that. I can. If I could do that, I could jump onto the roof.
SPEAKER_00Pretty much. They have incredibly strong back legs that act like giant springs. That's why they can jump onto counters, fences, and trees so easily.

SPEAKER_00Did you know that their whiskers are like super sensors? That's right, those long whiskers aren't just for decorations, they're special tools.
SPEAKER_01What do they do? Whiskers help cats measure small spaces, feel nearby objects, hunt in the dark, and keep their balance. If a cat's whiskers fits through an opening, its body usually would too. That's like having built-in measuring sticks. Exactly.
SPEAKER_00Cats also sleep between twelve and sixteen hours every day.
SPEAKER_01I wish I could sleep like that. You do.
SPEAKER_00Some kittens sleep even longer.
SPEAKER_01Why do they sleep so much?
SPEAKER_00Because hunting takes a lot of energy. But even house cats still have the instincts of wild hunters. When they're awake, they can move quickly, so they spend lots of time resting to save energy.
SPEAKER_01I think I'm a party cat.
SPEAKER_00Have you ever heard people say that cats always land on their feet?
SPEAKER_01Is that true?
SPEAKER_00Usually, but not always, cats have something called the riding reflex. When they fall, they twist their bodies in mid-air so their feet point toward the ground. Their flexible spine and strong legs help them land safely.
SPEAKER_01That's like being an acrobat.
SPEAKER_00It's one of the most amazing abilities in the animal kingdom. When you watch a cat, you see incredible design. Sharp hearing, excellent night vision, powerful jumps, sensitive whiskers, and flexible bodies.
SPEAKER_01Everything seems to work together.
SPEAKER_00The Bible tells us that God filled the earth with living creatures of every kind. Cats remind us that even animals we see every day are wonderfully designed. Sometimes the most familiar animals still have the most amazing secrets. Alright, before we close the episode, I think we have time for some more jokes.
