In this episode of Tales from Bark Mountain, the Bark Mountain Fire Department races into action when a house fire breaks out on the edge of town. Sirens echo through the valley as Chief Steve, Forrest, Red, Izzy, Tom, Dazzle, and Woz rush toward the smoke-filled home.

Inside, the fire is spreading and the rooms are filling with thick, dark smoke. But the firefighters hear something faint… a scared little bark coming from an upstairs bedroom.

A tiny puppy is trapped.

With Goose the Fire Dog leading the way, Chief Steve reaches through the smoke to grab the frightened pup hiding at a window. Working together with courage, calm, and a lot of heart, the crew shows that heroes aren’t just brave — they’re kind, patient, and determined to help those who can’t help themselves.

But the real lesson explains that sometime the bravest rescues don’t happen inside a fire… they actually happen when someone finds the courage to reach out.

Welcome to another tale from Park Mountain. The crew was sitting at the big wooden galley table, and just as Jake was about to serve his first meal as a firefighter, the tones rang throughout the fire hall. Structure fire one two nine five Howling Hollow Lane, the dispatcher said. Fire Chief Steve walked out of his office and said Alright, crew, let's move. Within seconds, the crew was sliding down the pole and getting on their gear. Izzy and Waz jumped in the engine, and nervously in the back was Jake, helmet and gloves already on. Tom and Dazzle got onto the rescue. Forrest and Red were running towards the ladder. Goose barked excitedly as he hopped into Fire Chiefs D's truck. The sirens wailed throughout the valley as the fire trucks drove towards town. As they got close to the street, they noticed a big black column of smoke rising into the afternoon air. As they pulled up to the house in the driveway was a lady waving her arms. My dog is still inside, I don't know where it is, she said. Fire Chief Steve calmly asked her what was on fire. She said My oven and the house is full of smoke, and my dog never came out. Fire Chief Steve calmly got out of his truck, and he told Waz and Izzy that they were going to be attacked and that the latter would be there soon to assist them, stretch a line to the front door, and Jake was gonna come with him and Goose. He instructed the rescue crew to secure a water supply for the engine. As they walked around back they could clearly see the house was full of smoke. Fire Chief Steve knelt down and said, Goose, I need you to tell us where that dog is in this house from the outside. Goose went around the house, stopping every ten feet and sniffing, and at one point on the back corner he started to bark loudly, and as he did that a faint bark came from the inside of that room. Fire Chief Steve radioed to the attack team to get everything prepared at the front door to move in and extinguish the fire. Goose, are you sure that puppy's in this room? Goose barked loudly, and then he kept barking and wouldn't stop, and all of a sudden a small furry face appeared in the window through the smoke. A frightened puppy barked weakly, paws scratching at the glass. Fire Chief Steve looked at Jake and Goose and said We need to change our plan. Jake, I need you to pull out your pry bar from your belt. Goose, I need you to keep barking so this little puppy doesn't leave the window. Chief Steve radioed to the attack team. We have found the puppy in the back corner of the house. We are going to rescue it from the outside. Once you are ready, make your way into the house and extinguish the fire. Jake, I need you to pry up this window. Goose, I need you to keep barking so this little puppy stays at the window so we can grab it. Goose started barking and he didn't stop. Fire Chief Steve showed Jake exactly where to put his pry bar so it would break the locks on the window so they could open it. Fire Chief Steve said, Are you ready? Jake nodded through his mask, and Goose never stopped barking in the background. One, two, three. Now Jake pulled as hard as he could on the pry bar and just as the window started to shake the locks broke and it lifted. Fire Chief Steve grabbed the little puppy and put it on the ground. The puppy saw Goose. He went over and snuggled in close. Goose put his paw around him. They laid there for a moment while the little puppy licked Goose's face. As Fire Chief Steve picked up the little puppy, he radioed to the crews. The dog has been found in the back corner. We're bringing it to the front. As they turned the corner, the lady ran over to get her little dog. Thank you so much, firefighter, she said. Fire Chief Steve explained once Goose picked up the scent of the puppy on the inside of her house, they were able to locate its position. It was a good rescue because Jake was able to break the locks with his prybar. The lady turned to Jake and said thank you, and knelt down and gave Goose a big hug. You're my hero, Goose of Fire Dog, she said. As the fire crews cleaned up the hose, the entire time the little puppy wouldn't leave Goose's side. They sat out by the fire trucks together as if they had been best friends forever. They sat out by the big engine truck as if they had been best friends forever. With the hoses loaded and all the gear back on the trucks, it was time to return to the station. Fire Chief Steve walked over to Goose with the little puppy sleeping between his paws and picked him up. He patted Goose on the head and said, Don't worry, Goose, we'll get this little puppy to come by and visit you at the fire hall. Goose wagged his tail. When he handed the puppy back to the homeowner, he said please come by the fire hall. I know Goose would love to see his new friend again. The lady said she would be by in the next few days and thanked all the firefighters again for their amazing work. As the firefighters Goose and Fire Chief Steve drove back to the fire hall, they knew this to be true. If you're brave enough to reach out through the smoke when you're feeling trapped, a window may appear. And that's when you'll realize the bravest thing you ever did was let someone find you.
