This is a story about how star whales create the stars, planets, and solar systems.
Welcome to Spirit Stories, a place where the poems, teachings, songs, and stories of compassionate helping spirits are shared with the world. Thank you for joining me. I am Diana, your host, and with deep gratitude, thank you for opening your heart to what spirits have to share. This story begins with beings who live among the stars. There are many different types of beings who dwell in the stars, around the stars, and in the areas in between. Some of those beings are two-legged. Some of those beings are four-legged. Some of those beings are flying beings, and some are swimming people. This story is about a star whale. Star whales travel in the universe, swimming from one area to the other. They're gentle beings. On their travels, they open their mouths as they find dust. And they consume the dust, bringing it into their very being. Once the dust has entered their abdomen, it stays there, where it expands and contracts, becoming something new, something different. And as the whale continues to swim along, it will come a time where he or she will realize that they should exhale the contents that has been growing, condensing, expanding. And with that exhale, a star is born, or even a planet, or perhaps an asteroid field. It can vary. In this way, with the exhalation of breath, that is how the solar systems and the universes are created. Now a star whale doesn't travel all by themselves, no. They travel together in a unit, in a family, if you will, in a pod. And together they swim and swim, gathering dust from one location, swimming to another, and exhaling life, exhaling star nurseries and solar systems. It was a particular pod that just enjoyed their travels from one area to another. This pod had a few juveniles within them, and some younger whales as well. One particular juvenile on the cusp of adulthood, and yet not quite there. He studied the elders as they swam, collecting dust and exhaling beautiful solar systems. He watched as his elder siblings would do the same. He envied them. They were so beautiful in what they had given life to. And as he watched over time, the envy turned to perhaps a little jealousy. And in the way of jealous individuals, he began to see flaws with the creations that had been made. He began to criticize it in his heart, although he would not say so aloud. And he thought to himself I could do better. I could make a system that would be glorious. So the adolescent star whale would linger towards the back of the pod, and he would take bits and pieces of the dust that had not been gathered by the elders or his sisters and brothers. He would hold that dust as it expanded and contracted within his abdomen, and when he felt a little discomfort, like it could possibly be the right time to exhale, he would swim away from the pod to an area of space just far enough away from prying eyes. He would exhale greatly, and out with his breath would come pieces of rock, large bits, maybe even planets. And he would position those rocks just so, moving them around. Then he would rejoin the group as they travel. They would travel and come back to a similar area at this time in this season. And so he was able to go back and forth between the pod and his secret area. And each time he returned to his secret area and his rocks, he noticed that they were still dull and lifeless. So he just repositioned them. They must be in the improper position. And then he would join the pod and observe, and he would come back to his secret area. And again, there was no no life, no brightness. But all the other star whales had bright life and flourishing solar systems. So why wasn't his? And he could not understand. So our young star whale decided to watch, watch closely what the elders did. What could they possibly be doing different than what he had done? It took time, it took patience as he watched and he learned, and he realized that the elders they would exhale lovingly and thereby birthing these beautiful rocks that had the opportunity to become so much more. He realized that when he had exhaled, he had done so with the idea of being the best, not necessarily with love. He had created something out of jealousy and not from compassion. And he grew ashamed, and he was not sure what to do. And he kept swimming back and forth between his secret area and the elders, and he kept moving the rocks that remained lifeless and still, hoping, hoping that by affectionately cleaning them and caring for them that they might grow life. And he grew sad and ashamed and angry. And as those emotions grew in size and depth, his very skin started to shift. He started to have things grow on it like barnacles and seaweed, and he carried all of that around on his very back as he swam. The elders had taken note of this. They were aware, being wise and young at one time on their own right, and they waited. There was one young star whale who had observed this adolescent and was curious where could he be going? So he followed the adolescent to his secret area, and he observed. And the young one was overcome with such sadness. He could not take it anymore, so he swam back to the pod and begged them to come with him to see what the adolescent had been doing. So the pod followed the littlest star whale, full of compassion and love for his brethren. And they found the secret area, and they positioned themselves in a giant circle around that space. And they watched quietly, unknowingly to the adolescent as he continued to nudge and cajole and hope that his solar system would come to life. The barnacles and weeds had grown such that it had become difficult for him to swim among the various rocks and position them just so. And the pod watched and they were filled with compassion, and the pod knew that together they could help the solar system become so much more. So they began to sing and sing. There is something special about whale song. It touches the heart of any being who listens. Whether that being be rock or water or human or animal or clouds, or the ocean herself. And here this section of the universe was filled with glorious whale song, a song that expressed its love for its dearest member, even though he had taken upon himself to make something in secret, something all his own. And the adolescent heard the whale's song, and he looked about and saw the entire pod there. They sang to him of how proud they were, and he was filled with such gratitude. He knew in that moment that they indeed loved him, even though he had criticized them in his own heart. And as he realized the depths of their love, he began to cry. He shed tears, and with each tear he also shed the anger, the jealousy. The tears fell upon a rock, about the third one in this solar system, filling that rock with salty water, which would become the oceans. And as his tears fell, the barnacles were released from his very skin, forming an asteroid belt as they floated in the solar system. The seaweed sloughed off, falling towards the planet, attaching its roots to the very depths in the bottom of the seas. And the adolescent understood. In those moments he realized that life could only be created through love and compassion. That the life that would be created would not necessarily be perfect. And perfection was not a goal in and of itself. The life that would be created would be precious no matter how it looked. And he realized that he wanted to give so much more to make this solar system that he had created flourish. He realized that it needed his love and compassion. So he decided to swim towards the very center of his solar system. And he curled up with his nose touching his tail tight and tight and tight until he had compressed himself into a tight ball. And he began to glow brighter and brighter. And as he thought of this magnificent solar system and the love that he had for it, he shone even brighter still. And the still rocks that now surrounded this bright star whale, who was becoming a star himself, they started to move in a circular orbit around the very star that was now residing in the center. And the pod witnessed this sacrifice, and the pod's song changed. It became a song of not just love, but a song of sacrifice. And as they sung, a golden seed was born. That seed, it propelled its way toward the rock that was covered in salty tears. And in the oceans of that rock or planet, as we know it, there were beings. Those beings shared the golden seed, consuming it. And that changed their very forms. So they resembled the very star beings, star whales in the universe. And among them all, deep within their very being resides a song, not just one but many. These songs, these whale songs, are songs to honor their brother, the sun. They are songs of the original star whales of love, of sacrifice, of compassion. And they are shared across our planet through the oceans from one spot to another. Whales today continue to sing the songs of the star whale, who is also our sun.
