Last week we were excited to welcome Vietnam, Brazil, Pakistan, Paraguay. This week we have United Arab Emirates, Argentina, and Iraq.
SPEAKER_01Nice.
SPEAKER_00To add to our countries. So we have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Ten countries total. That includes the United States.
SPEAKER_02Vietnam.
SPEAKER_00So excited to have you all. I was talking with a friend and she reminded me that there may be people in some countries who actually don't have a Bible to read, or that this may be a safer way for them to hear and be able to just receive some scripture and and some talk about it. So wow, if if that is you, I am in awe that you are listening to us. And I I do hope that you find encouragement and hope through that. So everyone, welcome. This week we are doing the readings from May 19th to May 25th. So you ready to jump in?
SPEAKER_02Ready.
SPEAKER_00All right. May 19th is 2 Corinthians chapter 3, verses 7 through 18. It's kind of a long passage. But last week we were talking about the veil.
SPEAKER_02That Moses wore. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And so this ties in with that. The first verse says that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory. And so that's really why the scripture is here. It follows along with what we were talking about last week. Right. Yeah. So it talks about Moses' glory was was transitory, but now, uh because this is the New Testament, now that we have the ministry of the Spirit, the um the glory, the Yeah, it just says, gosh, it says glory how many times?
SPEAKER_02I had five with my count.
SPEAKER_00Okay, and that's all in this first paragraph.
SPEAKER_02Um that's glory, that's in count glorious, which happens a couple times as well.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Uh it says if the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious, so that was Moses' um, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness?
SPEAKER_02Sorry. I have seven times. Yeah. Um and transitory is time limited.
SPEAKER_00Right, right.
SPEAKER_02So this one is not, right?
SPEAKER_00Exactly. Um, it says if what was transitory came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So so yeah, we have this glory from the spirit um that brings righteousness. Uh the next verse uh, well, the first verse of the second paragraph says, Um, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. I like that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And hope this week comes up several times. But you know, but yeah, because we have that hope, we can be bold, right?
SPEAKER_00Says we are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. Says, but their minds were dull. For to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And we read last week, Jesus is the new covenant, right?
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02So yeah.
SPEAKER_00But then it says, but whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It says the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. It says, We all who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory. So you know that math thing that says you can cut something in half.
SPEAKER_02Correct. Forever.
SPEAKER_00Forever. Because it's just, I mean, it'll always get smaller and smaller, but you can't.
SPEAKER_02It can always be a half.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. So this is like the opposite.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It just doubles and doubles and doubles and grows and grows and grows and grows.
SPEAKER_00And there's no end to it. It doesn't say ever increasing until you reach such and such.
SPEAKER_02Um and it says that comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02So this, you know, we're talking about the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, or or God Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. But it the Lord is the Spirit. So when you encounter the Holy Spirit, you're encountering God.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Right. Yes. The Trinity.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But yeah. But glory, glory, glory. And somewhere I think there's another reference to hope, which is good, right? Yeah. And the veil. We don't need the veil anymore.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_02And part of that is be open about your faith. You don't necessarily have to hide behind a veil.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. It says we we we we are bold.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like perhaps we should be more bold.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. All right. May 20th is Colossians chapter 1, 15 through 23. Where is Colossians?
SPEAKER_02It's in popcorn.
SPEAKER_00That's right.
SPEAKER_02Eat more popcorn.
SPEAKER_00That's right. That's right. In the New Testament. After Philippians, after Ephesians. Yes. Good job. Thanks. So in in this passage, it's talking about Jesus. Says he's the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. That all things have been created through him and for him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00He is before all things. In him all things hold together. He's the head.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Things in heaven on earth, visible and invisible, right? Thrones are powers or rules or authority. It's it whether it doesn't matter. He is it, right? Through him and for him. He is before all things. So he was there before Genesis.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02So and he is the head of the body, the church, and the firstborn from among the dead. Because he was the first to rise, right? And when he comes back, they'll all rise, but he's the first.
SPEAKER_00That's right. Then it says, once you were alienated from God, okay, remember back with the Moses.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Only Moses went and talked with God.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The others were like, Yeah, I'm staying back here.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Says, but now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight without blemish and free from accusation. I mean, that is why Jesus came.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And again, it's reconciled you, right? So we have been reconciled with God, right?
SPEAKER_00Yes. Yes, past tense, yes. Yes, yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's already happened. Stop worrying about it, right?
SPEAKER_00And to present you holy in his sight.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And free from accusation.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. There's several scriptures that say be holy because God is holy. Um this is how we do it. It's not through anything that we do.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_00We can, you know, try all day long to be perfect, and we're not gonna get there. No. But through Jesus, yeah, through Jesus dying on the cross, we are we are holy, we are righteous, we are um without blemish, we are free from accusations.
SPEAKER_02We are perfect. Yeah, we are made perfect. We cannot make ourselves perfect, but we are made perfect, right?
SPEAKER_00And we can come to God.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. And again, uh if you continue in your faith, establish and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. So stay here in the Bible, stay in the gospel, exactly, right?
SPEAKER_00Exactly.
SPEAKER_02So this is the gospel you heard and has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven. This is one you've heard, right? But don't you must continue in it. So you're never done reading scripture.
SPEAKER_00Right, because as we've said, it's alive. Um you have read the whole Bible many times.
SPEAKER_02Correct.
SPEAKER_00And I suspect that even now as we're going through passages, that you are getting something new out of them. It's not like, oh yeah, I knew that. I've read that.
SPEAKER_02And I may have known the story, right? But there's a different message this time when I'm reading it. So, you know, um, just this one week, the focus on hope. I didn't necessarily get that when I read it the first time, maybe, but it's clearly.
SPEAKER_00So yeah. And it's just it's a living document. So you've read The Lord of the Rings multiple times, correct?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh, the Christmas Carol. Christmas Carol.
SPEAKER_02You read it every year. I probably, yeah, 30 times maybe.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And and you read it because you enjoy it.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00But there's probably nothing new that pops up every time you read it.
SPEAKER_02No, no. There may be some piece that I've had read previously and forgotten about. Yeah. But it it's not like I've read it and oh, this is different. Like, you know, uh I knew Moses put a veil on. But this time it's I kind of got the sense the veil was for the people, not for Moses. So God didn't need Moses to wear a veil.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_02The people did, right? Right. And and Jesus made the veil not necessary.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. And so that's that's just what scripture is. It's it's living. Yeah. And there's no way to explain it except God.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00God does that with his word.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, we gotta stay in it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00All right. May 21st is Romans chapter 5, verses 5 through 11. Um, and this is just more about what God has done.
SPEAKER_02And again, it's God, the Holy Spirit, Jesus, right? More connecting, more stories, more, you know, scripture about those three, right? I mean, it's obviously something that's very difficult to understand, right? But this is foundational, right? They are the same. And when Jesus left, he said, I'm gonna send someone, you know, to help you. He didn't say the person's gonna come for six weeks, right? Holy Spirit's still here today.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. Um, it says, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. And then in the last paragraph, three times it says, it says, we were reconciled. Having been reconciled, we have now received reconciliation over and over again. This is what happened. Jesus Christ came, He died for us to reconcile us to God.
SPEAKER_02That's it. You could read that Romans five, five through eleven every day. But he's the reconciliation, right? Jesus. And it even goes back to last week's reading, the mediator, right? Because the only thing a mediator does is move toward reconciliation. How do we get to a place, right? Right. This is more of that. Talking about what Jesus did for us.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00And what God did through Jesus for us for us.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Because he it's what he wanted.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00From day one. He wanted his people that he created to love him, to be with him forever.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Very much so. Right.
SPEAKER_00And we were the ones who messed it up.
SPEAKER_02Right. So that's why Jesus had to come.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Yes. Yep. All right. May 22nd.
SPEAKER_02Pretty significant stuff the last couple of weeks, right?
SPEAKER_00Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_02Foundational.
SPEAKER_00Um May 22nd is Zephaniah.
SPEAKER_02Zephaniah.
SPEAKER_00Again.
SPEAKER_02Old Testament.
SPEAKER_00Last week we had Zechariah, which was the second to last book in the Old Testament. Um this week we have Zephaniah. I think it's a short book. Um we are reading from chapter three, verses 14 through 20.
SPEAKER_02It's coming in at less at about nine pages.
SPEAKER_00And where in the Old Testament is it?
SPEAKER_02At the very end. It's two books ahead of Zechariah.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02Haggai is between them.
SPEAKER_00Okay. So one of those um are those the lesser prophets? Is that what they're called?
SPEAKER_02Not if you ask them. Zephaniah. He was the son of Cushy.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02Um, this was uh prophesized during King Josiah of Judah six forty-one to six oh nine BC.
SPEAKER_00Okay. And um it's it's talking about what's gonna happen. Um well because of Jesus.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um it says the the Lord has taken away your punishment.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Says, never again will you fear any harm. The Lord your God is with you. These next two lines that I I marked are my favorite. It says, He will take great delight in you and will rejoice over you with singing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I like the the mighty warrior who saves.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, also says, in his love, he will no longer rebuke you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I will bring you home, honors and praise among all the people, I will restore your fortunes. So, yeah. Yeah, and it is praise. Sing, sing, sing, daughter Zion, right? Shout aloud, Israel.
SPEAKER_00Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, daughter Jerusalem.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. The Lord has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy. And if he did that for Zion, he will do it for us. Same thing, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I mean, it doesn't have the word hope in it, but this is full of hope.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The Lord, the King of Israel, is with you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. I struggle. I mean, I like all the hope passages, but to me, it feels like it's more than hope. Right? I mean, hope is some, I hope I that happens, you know. This feels to me more than just hope. It feels some degree of certainty, right? Oh. You know. I mean, this is certainty, right?
SPEAKER_00Right. Right.
SPEAKER_02The Lord has taken away your punishment. He has turned back your enemy, right? Past sense. Already happened. Right? So I will bring you home. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02All the people. I will give you honor and praise among all the people of the earth. Right. Pretty good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And that's us.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02He does this for us. Yes. Does it for Steve? He does it for marketing. Right. He does it for our listener of Pakistan. Mm-hmm. Right? Iraq. Wherever, you know. Vietnam. This is he does it. He he doesn't care what country it is.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_02He doesn't care. Doesn't matter to him. You know.
SPEAKER_00Um, May twenty-third is Titus chapter. Also, Daniel Stroh. Titus chapter 3, verses 3 through 8. Titus is in the New Testament, but I suspect it's a book that most people would um skip over.
SPEAKER_02I remember because it's eat more tamales.
SPEAKER_00But um it's it's a small book and it's tucked away between 2 Timothy and Philemon? Is that how you say it?
SPEAKER_02I've heard Philemon, as if yeah, I don't know. Philemon, Philemon.
SPEAKER_00But um uh yeah. So I I mean this is what six verses?
SPEAKER_02It's between 1 Timothy and Hebrews.
SPEAKER_00Second Tim what?
SPEAKER_02This yeah, well maybe Oh, this is time. That's a sequel, sorry. No it's now we have it.
SPEAKER_00Second Timothy and Philemon.
SPEAKER_02Yes, it is. Sure little stuff, four pages.
SPEAKER_00Um I I have so much marked on this at one time we were we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice, envy, being hated, hating. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us. Not because of righteous things we had done, because if you look back there, there is a whole bunch of unrighteous things that we've done, but because of his mercy. So that we might become heirs, having the hope of eternal life.
SPEAKER_02Again, hope.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So uh again, and and we've said this many times, it is nothing that we have done.
SPEAKER_02Correct.
SPEAKER_00The only thing we do is accept his gift.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. When the kindness and love of God, our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, right? But because of his mercy. So again, no matter how wonderful you are, right?
SPEAKER_00You're not wonderful enough.
SPEAKER_02You're not gonna be wonderful enough.
SPEAKER_00You still need Jesus, correct? You still need to accept him.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02And that's the rebirth, the renewal, Holy Spirit, and again, hope.
SPEAKER_00That that is the gift that God gave. And like any gift, you can take it, you can let it sit there on the shelf.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Never open it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Or you can open it and receive it, use it, take it. So that's that's the only role we have here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00God did everything else.
SPEAKER_02Right. So we just have to open it. Right? And they open it and you start to receive it and use it, you'll want to receive more and use more. And it doesn't end. Right? Right. You know, it's like a gift bag. You just keep reaching in, there's more stuff in there.
SPEAKER_00Yep. All right. May 24th is Psalm 110, 1 through 7. And um just a fun fact that's up at the top. It says that this the first verse of this um psalm is the most quoted Old Testament verse in the New Testament. I do not know why, but it says, the Lord says to my Lord, Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, sit at my right hand until I make your enemies. Just stay right here. Remain calm, right? And I'll make your enemies a footstool. Just, you know. So yeah. And it says we are priests in the order of Melzedec. Old Testament, I think Abraham, maybe Lot, some story, but you know, he gave and he showed up. That's that's the reference. It's here, some and maybe again in the New Testament.
SPEAKER_00Well, and that's what Jesus was. Jesus was a priest in the order of Melchizedek.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And you go to heaven, you get to meet him, I guess, right?
SPEAKER_00Yep. Um this I mean, this is why you you really want to be on God's side, because if you're not uh then you're his enemy. And it says, you know, he he will crush kings on the day of his wrath. Uh he'll judge the nations, heaping up the dead and crushing the rulers.
SPEAKER_02Um of the whole earth.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02So it's all rulers, right? Yeah, I don't want to be in that paragraph.
SPEAKER_00All right. May 25th.
SPEAKER_02May 25th.
SPEAKER_00Is Deuteronomy back to the Old Testament.
SPEAKER_02Back to the Old Testament.
SPEAKER_00Chapter 4, verses 28 through 31. Um and I I included this because this is another passage that shows that God is for you, no, no matter what. Um it starts out you will worship man-made gods. Like he knows this is gonna happen. But even though you've done that, if you seek the Lord your God, you know, if you just look, yeah, you'll find him. You need to seek him with all your heart and all your soul.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. But if you seek him, right? With all your heart and soul, you will find him. It's not right, it's not like you may not find him, right? You may not have the encounter. If you seek him with all your heart and soul, 100% committed, right? You'll find him.
SPEAKER_00It says for the the last sentence, for the Lord your God is a merciful God. He will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath. Well, he's a merciful God.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00He doesn't want to punish us. He doesn't want bad things to happen. Bad things are gonna happen.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00But he's But that's because of the world we live in.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's not his desire.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_02He doesn't make them happen, right?
SPEAKER_00And he is if we are his, if we are have chosen to follow him, he is with us through them all.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And in the end, we are with him forever.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um You just have to decide to be with him forever.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02Once that happens, right? You're in.
SPEAKER_00So um I I think this is a really appropriate time. All the scriptures we had today and the ones from last week, all talking about who Jesus is and what um God has for us. If you are listening to this and you have not um accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, if you have not said yes, uh, I want to follow God, you can do that. It's not like a magic formula, it's not specific words you have to say. Um, you can do it right now wherever you are. If you're driving in your car, if you're sitting in your house, if you're walking along a stream or something. Um, and you're like, yeah, you know what? I have never done that. You can just say, God, I accept your gift of Jesus, and I want to give my heart to you, and I want to follow you. It's really all you have to do.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And because we can't do any of this on our own, you really need to be involved in a group, um, a church, uh, friends who are like-minded, who are also following God, um, so that you can encourage one another. You can give each other hope. You can um help each other when you're not sure what you should be.
SPEAKER_02You can be bold, right? You can be reconciled, right?
SPEAKER_00Yes, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So all those things can, you know, this isn't just words, right? Yeah, you know, you know, he Jesus appeared, he saved, he has mercy, right? Sent the Holy Spirit for, you know, so all these things are many, many people tell you all these things happen to them every day. The real things.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you just gotta ask them into you.
SPEAKER_02Just make that decision.
SPEAKER_00So you just r receive it. I mean, God is constantly handing out his gift of um salvation, his gift of the Holy Spirit. He always has that out ready to give. All you have to do is say, I I receive that. Um and if you if it helps you, you could just reach out your hands and grab it and take it and say, I I receive that, God. I receive your gift of Jesus Christ dying on the cross for me. Um, even though you know we didn't deserve it, but because of his mercy and love, he did that for us. Right. And and he wants you.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00He he delights in you, he sings over you.
SPEAKER_02He well, we read last week the prodigal son.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, a couple of weeks ago.
SPEAKER_02So sorry, yeah. Whatever that was. Yeah, same message. He comes back. You know, there's a celebration when the sun comes back.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_02Earlier in the year, we read about the lady who had 10 silver coins, lost one, a celebration for the found one. 99, 100 sheep, one gone. Celebration. That's what God wants to do when you accept him. He and heaven will celebrate when you do that.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02That's the point of those three stories.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So I yeah, I actually encourage you if um if you did that today, if you received Jesus for the first time, um, or if you are one who you received them when you were younger, and then you were like the prodigal son who went off and did things you shouldn't have, and you you stepped away from God and you're coming back to him. Um I encourage you go go tell some people and have a party.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Go out to eat. Have some, I don't know, if you like wine, have a lovely glass of wine. Um and celebrate because that's what's happening in heaven. They are celebrating that you have come. So join in with them and and celebrate and enjoy that. Um, yeah. And you know, I mentioned the fan mail. I would love to hear if you receive Jesus for the first time. Um you would let us know and we'll be praying for you. Um that's just so super exciting. There's nothing better.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And that's why we do this.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_02That's the that's the reason. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. We believe that the Bible is God's word, his living word that we talked about. Um, we believe what's in it, and uh we just want people to get into the Bible and read it for themselves.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And are just trying to make um maybe an easier way for you to start doing that on your own.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00All right. What a great way to wrap up day. Yeah, love it.
SPEAKER_02It's good.
SPEAKER_00All good. All right. Well, thanks for listening to this week's Flip Devotional The Podcast. Don't forget to rate, review, subscribe, download, sh um, send us fan mail. Uh, and just have a great week. Praise God.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
