Go. But the best comment that I've seen about this whole thing was you guys are happy about an estate sale, but you forget that for this to have happened, somebody died. And that's exactly where we're at. Aggressively casual. Things to talk about. Lots of things have been happening the last couple weeks as we move into the summer season. Lots of stuff is apparently coming in uh July, and even more stuff next February. Holy crap. The things that are releasing next February. Well, sure. Hey, I'm done. Done with your security cam. Snowy leaves me here as he has to pay the bill. But what are you guys playing? Seriously, what are you guys playing out there? Um, let us know. It's always interesting. And I will tell you, I'm gonna go ahead and promo this, even though I probably shouldn't yet. We are gonna be starting a new series soon. Not sure what night maybe the opposite Wednesdays to aggressively casual. Um both of us have kind of fallen back into the sim racing scene, or at least the racing game scene. Um so we're gonna start a series called Objectively Bad Racing! Because, well, we're terrible at it. We'll probably be doing career mode in several different racing games that we own. Um, yeah, that should be fun. Come watch us be really bad at something. Um be here in a little while. I do need a handbrake at some point. But yeah, like I said, what are you guys playing? Let us know. I know what some of you are playing because, well, we've been playing it too. I'm here. I'm here-ish. You're here-ish. He's here-ish. I'm here ish. Which is really all any any of us can really say. It's true. We're here. Oh, we're getting we're getting philosophical, are we?
SPEAKER_03Indeed. Philosophy of gaming. The towel of cheeks. Am I echoing or is it just me? Uh no, I think it's just you. I mean Okay, that went away. Yeah, it went away. We're good. You're good? Okay. Fine. All right. Yeah, we're good. But yeah, uh, so welcome everybody to Aggressively Casual, the uh post-summer game fest edition. My name is Freebird with Pete Bend left as always. Is Cheeks say hi, Cheeks. Go. I mean, I kinda already did. We've been talking for the last five minutes. It's true, you have. So um I I I I assume you've done the what you've been playing lately. Yes. Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_05Oh I didn't talk about what we've been playing lately. I did I say I actually asked them what they are playing lately.
SPEAKER_03Oh, fair. Oh. Okay, fair.
SPEAKER_05Because I'm curious about that too. What are you what are you playing out there in the internet lands?
SPEAKER_03Yes, yes. Please write uh write a comment, let us know in chat if you're live. What have you been playing lately? We have to know, we gotta know. Uh, because there's there there's a billion things you could be playing right now. Uh Us. A lot of destiny. Uh especially yesterday I counted. Uh I ended up apparently doing 13 hours on stream. I don't I don't know how.
SPEAKER_05Um, because you started uh when the patch came up and you didn't stop. Actually you started before the patch came up most likely and didn't stop.
SPEAKER_03I I I I I I took a two-hour break. Um I took a two-hour break to make sure that I could, you know, eat and that, you know, Trish knew that I was alive. Um and that and that my kid saw me. Um and then uh yeah, and then it was back in, and I think I was in, I think Jeff and I were in until oh about 2 a.m., 3 a.m. here.
SPEAKER_05Well, right. I mean we got on right after I got off work, basically. Yeah. Like, you know, at 3 30, 4 o'clock. And we were on till 9. And that's when well, that's when I had to leave at 9. Yeah, yeah. And I knew you guys, you know, I just I left you guys still doing it. So um, yeah. We'll talk about that more in a little while.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but other than that, I mean we've been playing some Forza. Uh what's the other one that you were playing?
SPEAKER_05Um, not oh Lord, I've been playing Forza, I've been playing um EA Sports WR World Ralph Championship. I uh played a little NASCAR Heat. Um I got my uh my PlayStation Remote out and played a little bit of the Crew Motorfest. I have that on PC as well, though. Um but then I also I did dip into Windrose, I've dipped into Windrose and a few other things over the last couple of weeks. Um, and of course, we are at least partially back in Destiny. I got my quest working again, that was nice. Um, and lo and behold, the PC Link cable suddenly has decided to function. I'm gonna put that down to either a quest update or a Windows update.
SPEAKER_03I'm just gonna thank God it's working for you because I'm but I'll take it. Right? I was I was annoyed when it wasn't working for me. I was annoyed too.
SPEAKER_05To be fair, it's not like the quest itself didn't work. Right. You know, the games that were on the quest still functioned fine.
SPEAKER_03Well, sure, but half the reason you bought the thing was so that you could use it as a PC VR machine.
SPEAKER_05Right.
SPEAKER_03And then all of a sudden you couldn't.
SPEAKER_05And you can only Wi-Fi it if your PC is hardwired to the network, which mine is not. Interestingly enough, 007 First Light has VR. Wait, what? Yeah, it's in my VR, it's in it's in my VR code. No, no, it's not. Never mind. I was gonna say never mind.
SPEAKER_03I don't know, I don't think so.
SPEAKER_05Um that'd be that'd be really cool if it did. That would be cool. Play something like that in a VR. Right. Um anyway, yeah, it's a lot of racing. Um well, I say a lot of racing, it's it's a lot of playing of racing games. I won't say I'm really racing yet.
SPEAKER_03I mean I mean, you I mean, you're you're getting you're getting there, you're getting better. I'm getting better. Um, it's it's it's definitely it's definitely coming back. Um uh and and I I feel I feel more confident in my driving ability in game now than I did when I started, so that that that's that's good.
SPEAKER_05Sure, absolutely.
SPEAKER_03And and and and and you were right, by the way. You you you you you had said, hey, go fire up uh uh WRC and compare that to driving in Forza. Yeah, it's night, it's night so different. And you'll realize and and then that's not to say that for again, we're not here to shit on Forza. Forza is a good thing. No, no, we like Forza, we like Forza's good horizon a lot. Okay, Forza Horizon 6 is great.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Forza Horizon 6 is a great game. It's wheel implementation doesn't compare really to other games. Yeah, um now granted we're both on well, yeah, we're both on G29s, which is kind of you know the baby's first racing wheel if these days, if you want, although now they want you to move the 920, 923, whatever. Right, but anyway, when you play Forza Horizon, the wheel implementation does leave something to be desired. It could use some tweaking, but it's also not really designed for that. That's a secondary purpose because Forza Horizon 6, the Forza Horizon series is not a simulator series, it's more of a simcade series, right? It's somewhere between simulator and arcade. But on the other hand, when you fire up something like a set of corsa or EA Sports World Rally, or you know F1, etc. Suddenly you go, oh wow, this is really cool.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Um it suddenly, it it suddenly all makes sense.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I haven't tried American Oh, you you broke up the one. I said I haven't tried American Truck Simulator yet. I did buy I did pull the demo, but I haven't tried it yet.
SPEAKER_03Fair, fair. Because you uh you wanted uh you had mentioned one of the things you wanted to talk about tonight was was it an article that you had read or a video you were watching. It was a video I was watching about this about Forza, and somebody was saying that well, it's uh if you want to be really competitive on Forza 6, you have to play on controller. Okay, and I was like, Yeah, okay, which brings up the top of the it's it's the best way to play the game, it's the better way to play the game.
SPEAKER_05And I'm like no So here's the thing though best is not always best, and what I mean by that is depends on why you're playing the game. Are you playing Forza's Verizon 6 to be competitive? I mean, absolutely top-end competitive, right? Then yeah, I would say you probably want to stick to the controller because having played both, it does play a lot better on controller, right? But it's all about what are you trying to do? Do you want to get in, drive some cars, win a few races, right? And you want to feel like you're driving a car, so to speak. It's a simulator, don't at me. Right. Um, and I don't have a motion rig yet.
SPEAKER_03Um dear someone who wants to sponsor us for a motion rig. Right, right.
SPEAKER_05Um, but when you're playing with the wheel, it does help with immersion and feeling like you're being silly and you're driving a car really fast. And that means I don't have to go out on the road and drive my car really fast. And there's been times in my life when I had um, let's just say we had issues, right? So controller versus and and it's got me thinking, you know, controller versus a hotos setup in a space or flight game or a wheel. Better or best is best, is not always the goal. Evening dev. Um, hey Davina. That's not all the always the goal, right? Sometimes the goal is immersion. I play Mech Warrior with my hotos set up most of the time because it feels better. It's not the best way to play that game. The best way to play Mech Warrior 5 is keyboard and mouse if you're trying to be quote unquote optimal, right? Um, but playing with keyboard and mouse doesn't make me feel like I'm but I'm driving a big stompy robot. Playing with a joystick and throttle and sometimes pedals makes me feel like I'm driving a big stompy robot.
SPEAKER_03Right, exactly.
SPEAKER_05Um, you know, in the same way with playing Elite or or Star Citizen or hell, I played Wing Commander with with my Hotos setup back in the day. Well, starting at two, you can't swing with that setup. Right. I want to feel as much as I can like I'm doing the thing, not just playing a game. And right. So yeah, uh it just struck me that best is not always the goal.
SPEAKER_03Well, right, right. And and I I yeah, I I I 100% agree that best best is subjective, right? Um, and and a lot of uh and it's especially people in in games media, we love to use these big sweeping fucking you know analogies and references for everything, and everything has to be you know the best this, the the most efficient that, the you know, whatever. And and we use a lot of hyper hyperbolic language, and it's like no, like look.
SPEAKER_05Oh, hyperbole is the most is the favored form of speech, right? In the creation in creation, period. It's not even it's not even just games, it's just content creation.
SPEAKER_03It's content creation in general. Hyperbolic language and over-exaggeration is it runs runs rampant in content. Absolutely, absolutely.
SPEAKER_05You're right, Dev, and that's kind of what we're saying. And it also depends on your goal, right? If your goal is immersion, if your goal is immersion, a mouse and keyboard is never going to get you there. I have never felt totally immersed in any game that I was playing with a mouse and keyboard. Right, yeah, no, yeah, no, yeah. It it just it by its nature takes you out of that immersion, right? Um and it gets even more so when you start throwing on VR on top of it. I've played some of these, you know, played some of these space games with my stick, throttle, and VR, and it's like I'm this chair again, right? You know, um, just put a put in a catheter and a a line to feed me, and I'm I'm right here. I'm good. I'm never leaving this chair again.
SPEAKER_03All right, evening dragons exactly. Hey Drag. Okay, VR, yeah, fair. Um fair.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I can VR, I can do driving games, I can do space games, pretty much any game where you're actually sitting down. Um, if I'm playing trying to play a role-playing game or something like that where your character is walking around, yeah, then I brain the feet say we're you know, is like we're we're walking, and the brain says, the hell you are. Fair, you know, or my your your eyes, your eyes say you're walking, your feet say no, you're not, and your brain just says, Fuck off. Your brain says, um yeah. But I can even do roller coaster signals.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's um so it it it's internet, it's an internet thing. It it's a connection thing.
SPEAKER_05I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_03It's just a connection thing. It's not it's not a thing we're that we're doing. It's just Twitch being Twitch. He's over there just hitting the button. Yeah. Yeah, I'm over here just whacking.
SPEAKER_05What?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I'm over here just whacking the button. Exactly. Do that on your own time, mister. Yeah, unfortunately. That's how grandma died. Um boom. So yeah, that's what I meant by that, you know. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. Um yeah. Yeah. But I mean, so uh the other the other thing the other thing I wanted to talk about tonight, uh beyond besides the obvious destiny-sized elephant in the room. There's really only one thing he wants to talk about tonight, let's be honest. Was was we just got out of you know summer game announcement season, and I I I have to say that I was kind of shocked at how impressed I was with what came out of the past week. Um I'm usually quite a bit. I'm I'm usually one that's pretty like, oh, you know, well, uh I was pretty shocked that at least out of every showcase I watched, there was at least uh one or at least two to three things where I was like, hmm, you know what? Yeah, I'll play that. But it doesn't happen for me.
SPEAKER_05And then there were a then there were a couple where we were like, what the hell did we just watch?
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah, especially uh so uh like like walking them down, like it started out with uh the uh the state of play with Sony, and uh uh Wolverine looks incredible. Um I'll be I'll be playing that at the end.
SPEAKER_05Batman with claws, but I think we'll all be playing that.
SPEAKER_03Right, yeah. Wolverine looks incredible. Um I have a PlayStation 5. Look at that. Right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well Wolverine looks incredible. Uh that that'll be played. Uh, we're getting a Rayman Legends remake, which looks really good. Um, like uh the Tomb Raider remake looks way better than I thought it could. Um uh I I was worried when they kind of because they they kind of teased that one. I think it was last year, the year before. Right. And it looked kind of wonky, that but they they did something, and it looks really good. Um the the Dune Awakening thing is interesting that it's coming to console, but the um Well, that's it's not it doesn't surprise me. Conan Exiles Yeah, but the concessions they've made for it to come to console that they didn't talk about are really interesting. Um so the yeah, they they've they've added the single player experience, obviously, right? But then also the online experience, um, it's kind of a stripped down online experience, what PC players get, and there's only crossplay between the Microsoft store and Xbox version.
SPEAKER_05Well that that's we've seen that before, yeah, actually. Yeah. Um well Destiny One has that, right? Yeah, Destiny One has that same problem. Destiny 2 is crossplay across all platforms.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's true.
SPEAKER_05But Destiny One will cross play Xbox PC, but not PC2 PS or Xbox.
SPEAKER_03Uh no Rest for the Wicked got its 1.0 launch release date trailer for October, um, which is gonna be hit on PS5 and PC at the same time. Uh, you have that game, right? You you've played it. I do. I have played it.
SPEAKER_05Um they have tweaked it to make it a little bit better.
SPEAKER_03Because I I remember I remember I remember when it came out, you you were complaining a lot that it didn't feel as responsive as it needed to.
SPEAKER_05No, it doesn't. Not for the combat that they had.
SPEAKER_03And right.
SPEAKER_05I need to fire it back up and try it again. The last time I tried it, it was still a little sluggish.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because I because I'm I'm I'm wondering if they fixed that. Um uh and and the the that that's been the whole reason I haven't jumped in. Because you were like, don't. Right. The the combat you you you were like, you'd be frustrated.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, when it first started, I was like, don't, you'll just be very frustrated.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, exactly. Uh Silent Hill Townfall looks really good. Um because finally we might actually get a decent Silent Hill game that's on a remake again. Uh Ace Combat 8 looks really good. Uh Stuntman Hollywood was the was the surprise of the show for me because it wasn't nobody expected it. Um that looks good.
SPEAKER_05It looks like that looks fun, and that trailer is pure nostalgia. Oh, yeah. If you grew up in the 80s or watched a lot of 80s television in the 90s via Nick at night, it is pure nostalgia.
SPEAKER_03And look, and look, I'm I don't want I don't want to get hung up on this, but whatever the hell the trailer for Ill was, oof, that that game.
SPEAKER_05That looks like the hell did we just watch?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that was one where I was like, what the hell did we just Okay, alright. Uh Control Resident looks really good. Uh Control was one of my favorite single player experiences of all time. Um I cannot wait to play that game. Uh, and then I'm really excited that Runescape Dragon Wilds is coming to console. Um that's gonna that that's really exciting. Oh, and then uh they closed with 20 minutes of the new God of War game, which is uh uh God of War uh uh Laufe, which is his twice. Are they losing their minds? And they they oh my god, the internet uh and and they're losing their minds in both one extreme or the other. They either love it or they're going, oh my god, God of War is gone woke. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_05But I mean you've got you've got major news that you can't have auto or without crit. I mean, technically they didn't say this wasn't in it. Right. Not the main character. Right.
SPEAKER_03Although it's a little bit more than a few. Although there's right, but on the on but on the on the other side of that, if you played Ragnarok at all, half the fucking game play as his kid. Half the game you play as his kid, so I'm just saying, like, you know. Well, listen. You know, yeah, you know, uh never gonna make anyone happy. Oh crap. Right. You know. And then uh we had Christopher Judge just expensive, so right. Right. And then moving on from uh State of Play, we had Summer Game Fest, which we did a watch along of on Friday. That was a lot of fun. Thank you everybody who was there uh hanging out on Friday with me. That was a great time. Um we got a Resident Evil Veronica remake, which I mean it's Resident Evil. They you you knew that they were gonna do remakes for the old. Well, yeah, but but they've they've been remaking all the old stuff for the past few years ago, anyways. Yeah, so it doesn't surprise me. Um, and then we're getting two new cup head games, which is really interesting. Um I I liked the cuphead stuff. I I'm not good at it, but I enjoyed playing it. Um so I'm not the only one cutting out. So to see so to see that we're getting we're we're we're we're we're we're getting two different entries there is interesting. Um Alien Isolation 2 is gonna be great. I can't wait. I'm excited. Um Alien Isolation is one of my it's again one of my favorite games when it came out. I loved it. Um Gen Atlas from the Shadow Colossus Guys, that looks really interesting. It's like Shadow of Colossus in reverse. Yeah, right. Looks really, really interesting.
SPEAKER_05Um instead of Shadow of Colossus, this was this is when his Colossus cast Shadow.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, right. And then uh uh Stranger Than Heaven has Tupac in it. Which I had So tit title tracks, got it. Qu questions. Um I uh I mean you know it has.
SPEAKER_05I mean, obviously it's a recreation. Um, they've done that before. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03They brought out Snoop Dogg and like they're this whole thing, and like, you know, Snoop Dogg, well, we we we're we're working with his estate and this and I'm like, that's cool, but the dude's been dead for 30 years, can't he just be dead?
SPEAKER_05Like not anymore. Like apparently not. You can't just be dead anymore. Right, yeah, right, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Although I will say, I will say, Chat, if you've never watched the Coachello performance, yeah, where they first brought people on stage using some technology, yeah. Um it's a true hologram. It's it's it's actually technically it's a magic trick trick. Um it's a really good one though, and it's really kind of kind of eerie. Yeah. Um it's uh it's a really high. You can't say that. I mean Valkyrie movie dead. And um we've talked about it before, but the price of which it is. Uh, they're too expensive. Um but they are expensive too expensive because it's a balls have got it's unceptable, by the way. Everything is gonna collapse at some point. Um $50 for a game means I buy way fewer new games. Um when they were at $50, I'll be honest, I would buy a lot of the games. Yeah. When they went to C and started to slow down. And now we're at $70, it slowed down even more. I really gotta be hyped by the time the game gets here. Or you know, there are a few games that are still, okay, I'll buy that, because it's just it's it's in my my wheelhouse. On a lot of stuff, you know, like I used to be for 70 bucks a couple. Yeah. Um yeah, it's just in the in the lot of things that I want to play that, oh I'll wait. The Steam says the price.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Which kind of sucks because as a content creator, you kind of missed a boat, but I'm not really on the boat anyway. Um if even anything about we we are not on the boat. And if you're here for people that are on the boat, you're probably at the wrong show. Right. I mean, some things, obviously, but then again, we were playing both ways on first flight for wrong time. So, you know, yeah, that's that that's that's stealth stealth games are right up my alley. So, you know, which means I gotta get back to playing that actually.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_05Well, and that's the that's why I say that the whole thing's gonna come crashing down, because made are a pure luxury market. Um although in the past, what we've seen historically uh in in recession and depression is entertainment actually still thrives because people crave it at that point.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, people crave escapism, that's the thing. So, like it it unfortunately, like escapism is is the one thing that people th cling to beyond anything else. Right. But I agree when it comes down to food on table or play games Oh yeah, every time. Every time. Uh beyond uh uh yeah, beyond that, uh uh we got uh Star Wars Zero Company finally got a release date, thank god. Um and Anakin Skywalker is apparently in zero company, which is uh amazing. I don't know what they're gonna do with him there, but uh let's see what they do. Right? Uh let's see. Uh Wolf Among Us 2 uh is coming out next year, finally. Um it was supposed to come out years ago, and then years ago again, and then years ago a third year.
SPEAKER_05Missed the boat right there, by the way. Um The Wolf is Bill Among Us.
SPEAKER_03I mean, you're not wrong. Um the big news out of Arena Net is that we're gonna not have a lot of.
SPEAKER_05I'm available for consult consultant concentration or something.
SPEAKER_03Not only are we getting Guild Wars 3, right? Which they're doing a beta of in 2027. So realistically, we're probably looking at you know 2028 before that game hits, right? Uh there's another beta coming up. Um but but um Gil Arena Net came out afterwards and said we are going to continue to support all three Guild Wars titles simultaneously. Well, they're still they're still all making money, actually.
SPEAKER_05Oh, yeah. Um, they're not shutting anything down, right? Yeah, yeah. There's also another banger coming up in July.
SPEAKER_03And and and and and and and they even said like if we if we were going to do Guild Wars three with and and and continue on the same train of thought we did when we start started Guild Wars 2, we would have stopped content debate for two a year ago. Um because three is a prequel, because we would have had to, yeah. And three is a prequel to one, technically. Um uh if you if you believe what they're saying. There there are some there are some tinfoil hat conspiracy theorists that are like um it's actually like like metaverse stuff, and I'm like, interesting, but we'll see. We'll we'll see what actually happens. I I I'm I'm willing to take Arena at their word, and it's actually a 1200 year you know before prequel because that gives them so much leeway to do whatever they want.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, they do it right whatever they want.
SPEAKER_03Um when you go that far back, you have so much leeway to do whatever you want when you know with with whatever. Um, and then uh Monster Hunter Wilds gets an expansion, PAW World 1.0 is a thing, and I mean really that that hits that that hits July 10th. I'm pretty sure we're gonna jump back into that uh to check it out because uh to see to see what's what. Um look at it.
SPEAKER_05Although hitting in July, there's something else hitting in July that is gonna probably take up some of my time.
SPEAKER_03Oh, the uh legends ever. Yeah. And then uh Summer Game Fest closed with uh Final Fantasy VII Revelation, which is the final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, because if there's anything Final Fantasy is good at, it's making three games out of what used to be one.
SPEAKER_05I know Assassin's Creed can do that too, so I know.
SPEAKER_03But don't get me wrong.
SPEAKER_05I love I love the first two. I have gone to love this one. I've gone to plaid. Right? It's not it's not plaid on my end, though, so it's a connection issue. Sorry, guys.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Listen, you don't want to look at my mug anyway.
SPEAKER_03I well, I well the it it it's not so much the the the the the the video it's the audio that keeps cutting out. That's um that's that that that's oh the video's going to shit right now too.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, but I'm watching it on the thing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the the the the the video is what I I I can I can fix that in I I I can fix that in post. The audio, unfortunately, I can't um right. I can't I can't unfortunately make your voice come back.
SPEAKER_05Right, we can't cut it out. Um so we'll have to do some voiceover after this.
SPEAKER_03Um and then on Sunday, right? And then on Sunday, uh we had the Xbox showcase, which we watched together. Um man, man. I look, I I jokingly before the show titled the stream is Xbox Back. Um I I I I don't know that they ever left, but yeah, I get what you're saying. But I I I think that they finally have figured out how to be Xbox again, if that makes sense.
SPEAKER_05Is that what you were looking for?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I I think yeah, I th I I I I I think they finally figured out how to be Xbox again. Like, because Gears of War, they they they opened the show at Gears of War, and then afterwards it got its own direct, which the game looks amazing. Yeah. I'm hot for that one. And then uh and and then and then they talked about the new uh Halo campaign uh evolved, which is which which they've also detailed more this week now. They put up 30 minutes of gameplay today. They revealed it's gonna have a third person mode. Like, I'm fucking all in on this fucking thing. I'm like, yes, please give give it, give me it now. Give me it now, Halo Studios. Please, please, please. I need it, I need it. Um uh Fable finally got a release date and a new trailer, and that tra and fucking Haley Atwell is the villain. And today they dropped 30 minutes of gameplay, which I haven't even been able to watch yet. So after the show, I'm gonna go watch that because it's some everyone is saying it looks good, and I'm like, here's the thing.
SPEAKER_05I I don't I don't really need to watch 30 minutes of gameplay. I mean, I've what I've seen, I'll play the game. Right. Um, you know, I I get it. Sometimes it's like, oh, I want to watch this, but this is one where I do I really don't because fair the part of the nature of the story is you you don't really want to know what happens. Um fair, but I also I also feel like I don't need it, if that makes sense.
SPEAKER_03From what I from from the the one comment that I saw said that somebody was like, Oh, so it's what Peter said that three would be, and I was like, ouch. Well, that makes sense. I mean that that that makes yeah, I'll say ouch, but true. Uh um, and then oh hey, uh by the way, in case you were wondering what Toys for Bob is doing, Spyro's back. Um we're getting a new Spyro game, which uh which amazing. Oh, and uh uh we were right by the way. Um that that that um that that Ninja Theory game is Senua, but it is not a Hellblade game. It is a Senua game set in the Hellblade universe.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_03So it is a they're they're they're taking it in a new direction, which is very, very interesting. Um State of Decay 3 was actually detailed to be on the fucking trailer. Um, it is going to have a solo and co-op play, um, which is which is super interesting. Both of those come out in 2027, huzzah. We got a quick like two-second cinematic trailer for Persona 6, uh, because you know, apparently everybody didn't believe Persona 6 was actually a thing. Well, that was hilarious.
SPEAKER_05I'm watching this, I remember watching that going, this looks like Persona, and it was like Persona 6.
SPEAKER_03Well, right. I'm like, guys, guys, it's one of the most successful JRPG series of all time. Like, there's no way they're not making another one.
SPEAKER_05You know, not that next subject, but we've seen lately companies decide to just sit on on big big properties, you know. Um I am excited for Gil for Gears, it looks really good. Yeah, the gears, the new Gears game is a prequel, it's it's e-day, it's emergence day. Yeah, I'm going to presume that this game will lead up to, if not end, with Marcus in jail. Um because that's where the first game starts. Right. I I don't know if it'll go that far. I'd like to think that it will. I'd like to think that it would. I'd like to hope that it would. Because he wasn't in there very long. No. When he got when the first game starts. He hadn't been there very long. So um Yeah. They got both of the original voice actors your back for for Marcus and and and Santiago, but Dominic Santiago.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Um and then they were talking about and then and then then they did a pretty decent showcase of Clockwork Evolution, which like they they they had announced previously, but looks really good. It does look good. Um looks re and that one and Gears are now Xbox console exclusives. They are not going to PlayStation. They they were well, no, no, what what they so but but see, and here's the thing.
SPEAKER_05Right, but here you're exclusive and say Xbox console exclusive, right? That implies that it's only on the Xbox, and that is not what is happening.
SPEAKER_03But here's I do not agree with this, but here's what they meant by it. That means that it is only on on console, it is only on the Xbox. It will still be on PC. Still coming out on the PC. What they should have said is that it is a console Xbox exclusive. The other flip the two words around and it makes more sense, right?
SPEAKER_05Or that it's and people are roasting them over that shit, too.
SPEAKER_03Of course they are.
SPEAKER_05I even saw I saw a friggin' article today that wasn't on a game site that was like their promo gives lie to the Xbox exclusivity of of the new Gears of War, you know. And I'm like, yeah, see, words matter.
SPEAKER_03Right. Yeah. I mean, yeah, we're at the end of the day, it's not that big of a deal. Right.
SPEAKER_05Um I think I think this little exclusive, non-exclusive experiment is part of what didn't work for them.
SPEAKER_03Right. I I I well the thing of it is, is like they so the the problem is that they pivoted too hard in the other direction, right? Because because Sony is so well known as as a PlayStation brand overall for their exclusive titles, right? Microsoft said, okay, fuck it. You're gonna play our games everywhere, and you're gonna like it, right? And you're gonna and no matter where you play a game, you're gonna be able to play all of our games. Yeah, that backstage.
SPEAKER_05By the way, chat, I actually hate console exclusives. I understand why they exist, but I hate them.
SPEAKER_03Same. I think it's dumb. I think you should be able to play any game pretty much anywhere you are. Like, no, no, no, yeah, it's dumb.
SPEAKER_05I think you're leaving money on the table. Absolutely. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_03Exactly. Exactly. Um, and then uh Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 actually looks like Call of Duty. Um, but then again, it's made by Infinity Ward. Um and Infinity Ward just has always understood Call of Duty. Um they they they get they under for whatever reason, they just get it. I don't understand what it is that that makes them the only ones that can make me interested in a Call of Duty title anymore. But they seem to get it. I I saw the trailers and I was like, you know what?
SPEAKER_05I I don't have a lot of interest in this one. It may change as we get closer, but right now I'm like Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Well, I mean, graduates, I mean, graduated for I mean for you you're not the biggest multiplayer guy, so like they haven't shown much of like the story or anything, so that's where it's like eh, whatever. Um, for you guys.
SPEAKER_05I'm also not the biggest modern shooter guy.
SPEAKER_03Right, that's also true. Um and then oh, Minecraft Dungeons 2 uh comes out the end of September, which also looks good, and I and I hope that they've taken the feedback from Minecraft Dungeons 1 and taken it seriously and decided to do quite a bit of that. Yeah, and decided to, you know, fix the problems. Fix the problems, yeah. Um uh the the the the the that uh that the one had. I and I think that they had. But overall, I mean the the the in in the little wrap-up article I wrote, I wrote down that this was an Xbox showcase that felt like Xbox giving a damn. And and and and I meant that. I agree, I totally agree.
SPEAKER_05It felt like they cared.
SPEAKER_03It felt and and and and and and Yuki look all credit to to to to fuck it to to to to uh to to Phil Spencer for everything he did for Xbox for as long as he did, right? But he very clearly got too comfortable doing what doing the wrong thing for too long, and did and no longer was able to put together a coherent vision for what Xbox should be, and was pretty much telling Microsoft to shut it down, right, or to find a way to incorporate it into something else.
SPEAKER_05Basically, he was like, I broke it and I don't know how to put it back together.
SPEAKER_03Right. So they had to bring in somebody else, and and and and and and I've been impressed overall with what Asha's been doing. Now, look, they did just come out today and basically say, look, we're gonna have to do another.
SPEAKER_05I swear to God, if I open up Gears of War and there's a co-pilot in it, I will lose my shit.
SPEAKER_03Well, look, they did just come out today and say they're gonna end up doing another round of layoffs and they're preparing people for that. I don't know. I all I I haven't looked into what that what what what they said or all I saw was that headline as I as I was logging on to do the show. But so it costs you win, right? Unfortunately, I'm I I need before I go, shame on you, Xbox, right? I need to see what what their reasoning is and kind of what's going on there, right? Because for all we know, they could be carrying a shit ton of employees still from all of the mergers that they've taken on in the past five years that they just can't carry. And now they and now they have to figure out okay, how do we continue to make money? Because otherwise we have to divest ourselves of these things that we spent money on. Another company that should spend some time thinking if they want to divest themselves of things they spent money on.
SPEAKER_05They already did, and you know, right?
SPEAKER_03But uh we're not we're not there yet.
SPEAKER_05I swear you though, if I open up fucking Gears of War and I see anything about Copilot, I'm gonna lose my shit. Because the person running the Xbox was the head of their AI department for a while. Chat, if you if you missed that. Um but trailing on from that, you actually put in here the thing about uh cinematic announcement trailers versus showing off the game. Yeah. Um I my answer is why can't it be both? I I I really appreciate a good cinematic trailer, but at the same time, when I see a game trailer, I do want to see some game play. Um and I get it sometimes when you're just announcing a game, you don't have any gameplay yet to show. I can understand that. But at some time, pretty quick, I I I would prefer you waited until you did have some gameplay to show. I mean, everybody loves a good cinematic, and Lord knows Blizzard is like the king of cinematics. Um I still go back and watch some of the original World of Warcraft cinematics from time to time and some of the Diablo cinematics. Um, some of the older ones, some of the newer ones are just pretty much gore porn and it they kind of lose me. But a good cinematic trailer, there's something to be said for that. But I do want to see your game, I want to see what the gameplay actually looks like. Um, thankfully, in many cases these days, we're getting to a point where there's not a lot of difference between the cinematic trailer versus the gameplay, or they're doing in-engine cinematic trailers, which are really cool when your engine can handle it. Um, I like those. But I I do firmly fall on the show me some gameplay side. No, just show me a pretty cinematic absolutely pretty cinematics are cool, but I I can see a pretty cinematic just about anywhere. Right.
SPEAKER_03My thing is like if you're going to announce a game, right? Um come at me with a cool looking cinematic, but also show me show to show me how to work. Show me something I'm going to be doing in the game.
SPEAKER_05Right? I agree. And then wait until you have some gameplay. Yep. Because a lot of times they put out these cinematics because they don't have any gameplay yet. Right. They haven't got that far. Right. And I'm like, well, then wait till you have.
SPEAKER_03Right. Because because I I I I I I will never forget like seeing like the cinematic for fucking like watchdogs back in the day, and going, oh my god. That looks like and then the fucking game was awful.
SPEAKER_05See, I I don't agree. I liked Watchdogs.
SPEAKER_03It was well, it was nothing. And then I like the second one, too. Oh, sure. Uh well, watchdogs too was the only game I've ever played where I where I fired a gun and watched the bullets go sideways.
SPEAKER_05Well, yeah, it was there were some problems. Don't get me wrong. There were issues with Watch Dogs 2. Um second, but what I played of it, I didn't hate. Uh but Watchdogs was actually pretty good, I thought. Yeah, did it really match the trailer? No, but the concept was good. The concept of a cyberpunk style game where you never actually fire a gun that often was really cool. Um so I liked Watch Dogs. Um, but yeah, I agree. Show me some gameplay. Don't just show me a trailer, um, a cinematic. Cinematics are pretty, don't get me wrong. And again, I want to see some cinematics, and sometimes occasionally a cinematic has sold a game to me. Um one that comes to mind is Star Citizen, and but that's because I am in fact an old old school Wing Commander head. I played so much Wing Commander, all of them, that you know, when that original Star Citizen Cinematic comes on, and you see the ship come in, I'm like that looks an awful lot like a Con Fed Terrier. And then the words Vega system come across the word the screen. I was like, take my money here, let me throw money at you. And I did. Um I have a first uh first 5,000 backer number in Star Citizen. Before they actually went to Kickstarter. My uh my star citizen ID is only four characters. Which freaks some people out these days. They're like, why what? Um but yeah. So yeah. What do you think, guys? Trailers? Cinematic? Show me the game? Both? I I think it should be both, to be quite honest. Both is better. Um both is good. I would I'd love to see both. Um, because again, those old World Warcraft trailers are great. You know, that first or initial trailer with the dwarf coming across the snow with the wolf um and his blunderbuffs. That's such an iconic trailer. Some of the first Diablo trailers are very iconic. I know that we're back talking about Blizzard because Blizzard is the king of the cinematic. I really think they are. But at the same time, we've seen really good cinematics now for a lot of things. A lot of the the Assassin's Creed cinematics tend to be really good. Um, but yeah, show me the show me the show me the money, show me the gameplay so I at least know what I'm actually doing in the game. Uh that would be lovely, and it and it's preferable to to this. Um, but yeah. So uh that's about all I can ramble on about that. So we got one topic left for tonight, and it's a big one, and it may take a bit. Don't don't don't think we're gonna rush off here. But this week, yesterday, as a matter of fact, Destiny 2's final update dropped. Final live update, it's final content drop, or final significant content drop. I think there might be some trickle out over the next bit, but we'll see. Um, it was huge, like 71 pages of patch notes. It was ridiculous. Um my early impressions, it's good. They've made a lot of positive changes, but um, I'm gonna keep that until he gets back because I want to hear his thoughts on that. Uh it it is it is good. I don't know how long it'll sustain, you know. Right now, at last night, for example, across all platforms, it was estimated that Destiny 2 had over 300,000 players on Steam alone. Right now, there's 121,000 playing, and we haven't seen those numbers in ages. Those numbers were down in the less than 12,000, not a week ago. So this has brought people back. Oh, yeah, that's a great cinematic. I agree. Um, yeah, the the Anduin storyline there was really, really good. I totally agree. That that cinematic was great. Um, I still watch all the cinematics, even though I'm not playing the game, because I actually love the world. I I I like that world. Um, that they because that world is built pretty logically, it mostly obeys its own rules, and I really like that. Um, the world itself is great. I've read all the books, I've read, you know, seen the movie for what it is. I thought the movie was decent for what it was, except the movie's not based on the MMO, it's based on the strategy game, which a lot of people didn't quite get at first. So um, but anyway. Um, yeah. So but yeah, the Destiny content drop, we played a lot of it, you know. He played it for 13 hours yesterday. Um I played it for about six before after from after work to the time I had to put the eight-year-old to bed. Um, because I can't do much after he goes to bed because his bedroom sits right next to my office. And if I keep doing things, he doesn't go to sleep. Um there's there is some story involved in this. Um there's not a lot because that's not part of what it was. So um, but there is some story. There's a couple of cutscenes that'll get you right in the feels, especially if you've been playing Destiny for any length of real time. Um, and if you've been playing since the beginning, there's a cutscene in there that'll hit you right in the feels. Um the content itself, uh, loot so far has kind of been falling like rain. Which, you know, I was saying last night that had the game been in this state for some time, we wouldn't even be having this conversation because destiny would still be alive and well. Now, currently, based on the player charts, it is alive and well, but I think that's not going to last long. I really think that's not gonna last more than a maybe a month max. Um, I'll be surprised if it makes it longer than a month, which sucks. Um, I do want to see a destiny 3. I would love to see a destiny 3. Um, I think we will see a destiny 3, actually. Maybe it's copium, maybe it's not. Um, copium, hopium, whatever you want to call it. Uh, you know, dreams. I think at some point we will see a Destiny 3. I don't think it'll be anytime soon, obviously, because if there's nothing that's been green lit, they haven't even started doing anything yet. I think Sony's gonna sit on it for a while. And um unfortunately, I also think the marathon will fail ultimately. I I hope it doesn't. Um I I'm not willing to buy it right now because I'm not willing to give Sony any money for this at this point. Because the only way we ever really get hurt is to speak with our wallets. And for all of us to turn around and go, oh, well, you killed Destiny, so let's go buy buy her marathon, doesn't speak with your wallet. That speaks well, it does, but it speaks the wrong way. Just sign off on it. You got us got a camera now? You all good?
SPEAKER_03Security cameras are done. She's doing some survey thing, and blah blah blah.
SPEAKER_05So yeah, we are um I have led into the destiny topic a little bit.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_05Just as service. So um, I was saying that you know it is good. There's a huge number of players right now, right? Well, that's just it. The it was the the the player base was low because they had put a game in such a state that it was just shit. Right. Um, but that's not the IP. That that's not the IP itself. The IP itself still has a lot of value. Right. And if we saw anything by the Destiny state of play where they had to shut the chat down because everybody was just, we want Destiny 3. Right. Um, and there's still a healthy population in Destiny 1. Destiny 1's got more players than it's had in a while because as Destiny 2 got crappier, people went back to Destiny 1. So you can't say that they don't want Destiny. Right. What they don't want was the state that Destiny 2 was in. Well, why then Destiny 2 would be in the state that it's in today, right. Had that been, had that been happened at um Renegades and Edge of Fate, we would not be having this conversation.
SPEAKER_03Right. Had that been the state, had that had that been the state, people would have never left. I I saw I saw I I I I I I I I I saw somebody say today that this is the best that Destiny has been since the final shape. And it's it and it is absolutely pathetic that it took them killing the game to get there.
SPEAKER_05Yes. And um I and that what people also need to realize is what we are getting is probably a year and a half's worth of trickle content. Content that would have trickled out. I think Destiny would have eventually reached this state. Yeah, I do too. Because they had all of this ready to go, which means most of it's been sitting there waiting and ready to go. But the best comment that I've seen about this whole thing was you guys are happy about an estate sale, but you forget that for this to have happened, somebody died. Yeah. And that's exactly where we're at. You we're happy about the update, and I am happy about the update. The update's pretty good. Yeah. Do I think it'll hold me long term? No.
SPEAKER_03Um, and and like and like Destiny, Destiny 2 reached one million active daily players yesterday. Sure.
SPEAKER_05Give it a month and see if those numbers hold.
SPEAKER_03But you cannot tell me that there is not interest. So so well, right. That's the thing.
SPEAKER_05The interest is there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but now so PlayStation's argument was that there is no longer interest in destiny. Bullshit.
SPEAKER_05Well, there that's that's always been bullshit from the very beginning. That's the thing. That's always been a bullshit argument. It's like, no, there's plenty of interest in destiny. What there isn't is any interest in Destiny 2 in the current state that it's in. But in order to fix it, you've either got to kill it, which they just dump content, which is what they just did, or you have to actually invest money in it, which they're not willing to do because they're trying to paste this entire the whole impairment and all of the losses on destiny. Now, part of that I think is valid, but it's the state of destiny that it was allowed to get because Pete Parsons needed to buy another fucking car. You know, and I put a lot of this on Destiny Management. Not all of it, by the way. It's not all of management's fault. I think the devs made some choices that I would not have made. But overall, as we've seen from this update, the devs themselves still give a shit about the game. They still care, they want to deliver, but let's remember that Pete Parsons publicly said that under delivering was the plan and they followed through on it time and time and time again. So this conversation was inevitable. That game was going to die because they were bound and determined to kill it. But that doesn't kill the interest in the IP. You know, there's still interest, for example, in the EverQuest IP, still making money. And Destiny was still making money, it just wasn't making as much. Although this last little bit, it probably wasn't making much money when you're down in the single, you know, the single thousands of characters, you're not even over 10,000 players. Um but it's it's one of those things. Yeah, and here's the thing Destiny 2 right now on Steam has 121,000 players. Right. The game they're banking on has 15,000. Right. Right. So there's no money there, but Sony, because and and uh so I'm gonna I'm gonna say this. Somebody's gonna at me and tell me I'm full of shit. That's fine. Part of this is cultural. Oh, absolutely. Because Sony now cannot lose face and go back and go, oh, we must we were wrong. Well, right's change course. Right. They're gonna stick to their guns. I think it'll be a year, year and a half, and suddenly on Sony's webpage or something, you're gonna get a graphic, and all it's gonna say is D3. That's it. I think D I think Destiny 3 will at some point get green lit. Oh, absolutely. Um, absolutely. I don't know who will be developing it because Bungie doesn't exist anymore, basically. Bungie is a marathon team, and that's it. There's a mar they're a marathon team and a tiny little team to maintain what's left of Destiny 2 and Destiny 1. That's it. That's that's all they are. They're you know, all the other projects gone, whatever those were. I'd be terribly curious to know what other things are in the pipeline. Um, yeah, we do know that they asked and asked and asked to start development on a Destiny 3, and we're continually told no, yep, that Destiny 2 was where they were hanging their hat. Thanks again, Pete Parsons. Yep. Um, you know, and I put a lot of this on Pete. Not all of it. Again, I don't put all of it on Pete, but I put I put 95 to 99, 99-ish percent of this right on Destiny management. Again, his stated public goal was under deliver. And by God, they over-delivered the underdeliver.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_05That's for sure.
SPEAKER_03Here's here here's a stat I just saw for you. All right, even though, even though uh uh uh Destiny Destiny player numbers were low, right? Destiny 2 was a platinum best seller on Steam for five years in a row, right? Right. It had one bad sales year that was last year, right? Yep, where it was still a steam top seller, but it was a silver steam top seller.
SPEAKER_05It dropped from platinum to silver. Um now, but in this in this industry, that's a fail. Fuck all the way off. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_03I agree. I think a great story.
SPEAKER_05You know, we we've talked about this before, right?
SPEAKER_03Is what constitutes a failure of success. You cannot sit here. Look, you you you and I have talked about business sense, right? Yeah, and you and I have talked about, you know, I don't want to sit here in doom and gloom on marathon, right? But I'm gonna sit here and I and I'm I'm gonna stand on a fucking soapbox for a second about destiny and say that the numbers don't make sense, Sony. Right.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03The numbers don't make sense if you're gonna make money. If your aim is to make money as you say it is, but what if it's not and that's that's the I I don't think their aim is to make money.
SPEAKER_05No, I think it's a loss leader.
SPEAKER_03I think, and now now again, they they take a loss, it's a tax cut.
SPEAKER_05It's a loss leader.
SPEAKER_03Now, now here's at this point they don't want to. Here was my my my conspiracy theory a number of years ago years ago when they bought bungees, that they bought bungee for the server tech. Right. Because they didn't have anything like it. Because bungee was the only one in the industry that was the only one in the industry doing what they were doing. Right.
SPEAKER_05And they still are at this at then. We weren't doing this show at the time, I don't think. But we talked about that.
SPEAKER_03And they still are, they're still the only ones in the industry pulling off this server tech, by the way. Right.
SPEAKER_05No one else has come close. Although the servers last night were crying pretty hard. Oh they were still and you know what? They were still doing it today, too. But they were I bet they are at 121k on Steam alone. So you know we're still at the 300-ish mark, right? Now, I will be terribly interested to see what those numbers are in a week, sure, two weeks, sure. Same because I don't think it'll sustain. Um, and and unfortunately, as good as this update is, it is still just more of the same. Um unfortunately, we don't get any of the story drop that would have come with all of this content.
SPEAKER_03Right now, I I I will I will I I I I I will say this. Um the exotic mission, right? God, I watched a video on that. Holy crap! Okay, the exotic mission, the story you get in the exotic mission, especially if you do all of it. Because Jeff and I did part did the exotic mission last night, and then Stu and I, and then Stu and I were when did did the rest of it today.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's it's a lot of story, and I I saw Cross was postulating that this was cut story content from when they were considering a corruption subclass. Okay. Um because a lot of the the dialogue heavy means that way.
SPEAKER_03Have you seen any of the the final boss fight in there? Yeah, I've seen it all. How did they get away with putting that into a teen-rated game? Well, you know, there is that.
SPEAKER_05Well, you know, it's very various various definitions of the word team.
SPEAKER_03Well, right, but but but my thing is that that that scream, and if you've seen this, you know what I'm talking about. That scream will sit with me for a while. Oh, yeah, yeah. It was that good. And that's the thing. That's the thing about this game. When it's no omnigal, but then who is right. When when when Bungie is allowed to do those things.
SPEAKER_05When they're allowed to cook, when they're allowed to cook.
SPEAKER_03When they're allowed to cook, you get shit like that that sits with you for years.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and the thing is, um, you know, most of the stuff that that I saw is good. There's a few things where I'm like, oh, really? But you know, that's that's gonna be with every update. Um, no game is perfect, no game will ever be perfect. So there'll always be something that you go, oh god. Yeah. Um, you know, hey buddy, hey bro, how you doing? Are you on your way home or you get home? Because last time I checked, you were leaving the hospital to go home or the place anyway, the medical place anyway. Or did you just wake up from your nap? Uh, but yeah, so um, okay, on your way home. Yeah, nice. Food is good. Just tell me you didn't stop at a Bucky's, and we'll be fine. Um, I don't think there are any in between where he's at, where he's going. So fair. You gotta go a little farther south to start hitting your first Bucky's yet. Although apparently we're getting one here in Kansas City. Whoop de fuck. Good. That just means less people in my quick trips. Um so yeah.
SPEAKER_03Nice.
SPEAKER_05Oh, that's not the man.
SPEAKER_03Now I'm starving. Thank you.
SPEAKER_05And I ate dinner an hour ago. Thank you. Appreciate it. Yeah, Chinese food. Good. But yeah, so it's good. It it really is good. I sound like I'm kind of bitching to being a downer, but I'm not. It's good. It's it's also frustrating at the same time. Right.
SPEAKER_03It's so frustrating because it's so because it's so good. And I'm so mad because it's so good. And I want to do that.
SPEAKER_05A lot of people are that way. There, there are a lot of people are mad because it is so dangerous. And I want people what would have happened had they been allowed to cook from Forsaken forward. Because let's face it, uh, Lightfall is a little undercooked. Um they took that one out of the oven a little too early.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. But and and and and and the wor the worst of it is the the worst of it is is apparently now you you've watched that cutscene. I haven't, right? I have. I don't want to watch it until I can until I see it in the game. And but everybody that's watched it has gone, god damn it.
SPEAKER_05Well, it it's gonna hit harder for you than some other people because you've played Destiny from the beginning. Yeah. So some of the dialogue will carry a bit more weight. Thanks, brother. Hey, like, like literally, that's my brother. That's all I know. So when I say, yeah, thanks for the biggest. Thanks for the subject. We appreciate you. Yeah, um, but uh yeah, it it hits a little harder. It's nice, don't get me wrong. Um I I would have much preferred okay, that's gonna sound terrible. Hang on. Let me let me rephrase. All respect, all respect to Keith. Many fair fucking voice. Fair, but he's not Lance Reddick. Fair. And I actually think it didn't hit as hard as it would have for me had it been Lance. I'd have been in fucking tears if it had been Lance. Fair. Um, fair. There's not many times a video game does that to me. There really isn't. There isn't many times a video game will actually move me to that much emotion.
SPEAKER_03Um it it is it is rare these days, but it has happened in recent memory. You know. Um uh uh uh uh the the ending of the final shape. Yeah, the ending of the ending of the smaller ending of the final shape broke me. We're here. We're at the end, right? Yeah, the the ending of the final shape broke me.
SPEAKER_05Which there was let's be honest, that's where Destiny 2 died.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Because you're done. Yeah, you've you've you've finished the story. Yeah to quote Cody Rhodes, you finished the story.
SPEAKER_03As as happy as I am that we got fucking Renegades, because in my opinion, Renegades was the best. And and and and and the Equilibrium Dungeon is my favorite dungeon in all of Destiny 2.
SPEAKER_05It's yeah, Renegades was fun. It's so good.
SPEAKER_03It yeah, because look, look, look, you you go from fighting on lead legally distinct Yavin to legally distinct Star Destroyer. And and I'm like with a stop and legally distinct Tatooine. It's so good.
SPEAKER_05It's it's so good. Oh, but I think there's some legally distinct Hoth in there too. It's it's it's it's it's just so good. You know, we were well, we were just talking about last night about how uh the X-Wing in Destiny 2 is legally distinct because it has an extra engine. Yep. Yep. As five engines instead of just four. Yep. Um, I'm like, I'm like, where exactly did they put that extra engine? Right? Can I get the plans for this? Because I'm not quite sure how this works. Um, so yeah, uh we're obviously not going to get Shadow in Order at this point. Right. So they're not gonna finish that. Why the fuck is the traveler back above the city? We're never gonna find that out. How did that happen? How did that ever? Um, it would have been nice.
unknownOh god.
SPEAKER_05Somebody contact Bill Nye. Can we get a final message from the speaker? Right. We've got everybody else.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_05You know, even the Guardian popped up today.
SPEAKER_03Right. Yeah, we've got everybody else.
SPEAKER_05Look nothing like what I pictured, to be honest.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_05Uh but yeah. Uh so. And most of the comments on that video were at the end. Most of the comments were, don't call me that. Because you know what? At the end he goes, let's go, little light. Yep. And a lot of the comments were, don't call me that. If you know, you know. If yeah, I don't have time to explain why I don't even have time to explain. Explain. Right. Also, keep it going, yeah. Um, so anyway, uh, I would like to think, you know, and like I said, I I did say why you were gone, whether it's copium, hopium, whatever mopium, call it what you will, I do think in 12 to 18 months there will be a splash page on Sony's website that just says D3. I think so too. Um, but it obviously probably won't be a bungee that develops it. Yeah, I don't know. Uh I don't know. I I don't, and I'll be honest, other than the fact that the devs themselves, I don't know that that's a bad thing. Right. Um, I agree. We've seen that other people can do franchises as well as the original. Um what's oh fuck, what's the company that did New Vegas? Obsidian Obsidian. Yeah, Obsidian. Um Obsidian Fallout's better than the Festa.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, or I mean hell, I mean fucking fucking fucking Halo Studios taking taking the rope, take taking the baton from Bungie for Halo. Um they've put out some incredible Halo products.
SPEAKER_05We've seen that people can outfranchise the originals. Um, I don't need them to outfranchise Bungie, I just need them to be as good as Win Bungie cooks.
SPEAKER_03That's the thing is when Bungie cooks don't need them to be better than Bungie.
SPEAKER_05I think as Prime Bungie because when Bungie cooks, there are not too many people that are better.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um, unfortunately, it's just been a while since they've really cooked.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um, for whatever reason, we none of us know the actual reasons because none of us actually fucking work there and we're involved in it. So we can speculate all we want. It's just that. It's speculation. And and everything that we have said tonight is is mostly speculation about what we think. These are our opinions. We're entitled to them. Some of them match other people's opinions, some of them don't. I will tell you that this story got big enough that the fucking BBC did a story on it. Right. You know, the BBC had dado, bife, and uh crap. I'm sorry, I'm blanking on the third one. That they did interviews with them, and um what I and I agree with Bife. Destiny is one of those games that became what he termed a third space. And what he means by that is it's a space you go, yeah, it's a space you hang out. Both Dado and Bife met their wives in Destiny, yeah. You know, um, and I know people that have met their significant others in WoW, yeah, or in EverQuest. I've met some of my best friends in Destiny and World of Warcraft. I mean, fucking like I I have friends that that I made in EGA Battle Tech in the 90s that I'm still friends with today. I still talk to them today. You've ged with a couple of them with me. Yeah, uh Cubby, for example, is one of those guys. Yeah. Um, friends that I met in EverQuest, friends that I met in WoW. Um, you know, it just it these they build communities, and that's that's the part that really sucks. Is when these games start to die, the communities start to collapse. Yeah, it's it's you can say it's the natural course of things. I would agree, but that doesn't make it any less sad that it's happening. Um, so that is part of the problem, is you know, the community will start to collapse. The the bungee community itself is at war with itself right now. The marathon guys versus the destiny guys. I'm like, guys, as much as I don't particularly care for the game, you can coexist. It's okay. If you like marathon, legitimately like marathon, that's okay. Good for you. Absolutely. Enjoy the hell out of it. Um I'm not gonna buy it anytime soon. There are, I will say there are some possible developments in Marathon that have me at least my interest peaked. Yeah, but right now I'm not willing to give Sony more money, and I specifically say Sony. Yeah. Um for a game that is obstensibly the cause of a game that I love being shut down, even though I have bitched and pissed and moaned about that game a lot. Um, one could argue that if we didn't care, we wouldn't talk about it as much because we wouldn't give a shit.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_05Um, so I want I I again I want Bungie to succeed, I want Marathon to succeed. I don't see it. I don't see it. I think Marathon ultimately is too niche. It's gonna fail. Or it'll it will only exist pretty much where it is now. You're never gonna see destiny numbers, it's not gonna happen. You're not gonna see, you know, you're certainly not gonna see wow numbers. You'll never see wild numbers in any game. Yeah, no. That's a that's the that's the anomaly to all of this, you know. People and people chasing that number is part of the problem. Don't chase those numbers. You'll not never get there in today's market. That time is past. You had a shot at that, but that pass that time is past. That door is closed. Yep, no, you're not gonna get those numbers. With that being said, we are seeing solo games right now selling five million plus copies. And we're not talking about just one game, we're talking about multiple games that have come out in recent memory, recent times that are now selling millions of copies. Yeah, millions of copies, you know, and these are not quote unquote triple-A games. So it just proves the point that we have said often make a good game, people will buy it.
SPEAKER_03Yep, absolutely. Make and sell a good video game, people will buy it. It does not matter what it is, focus on making the best game you can and money will flow.
SPEAKER_05At this point, Crimson Desert should become a case study.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_05Um, it won't, but it should. Um, First Light has sold has passed the two or three million marks. Three million.
SPEAKER_03They're over three million now.
SPEAKER_05Um, you know, for a game that was supposed to be way too woke for James Bond before it was ever released, by the way. Nobody had ever actually played the fucking thing yet. Right. Suddenly, three million people say, You're fucking wrong. Um so yeah, you got Crimson Desert is past the six million mark. What else? There's something there's something else. I'm it's a lot of people. Subnautica's over two million, yeah. Two million. Um, and those are both multiplayer games.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, fucking In Shrouded is over like some stupid number.
SPEAKER_05Well, Inshrouded, I don't count as a recent game anymore. Um but they did just put out a big update. You know, PAL World is up there, and they're about to go even more because their 1.0 release will bring in players. That's a great game, by the way. Um, don't let the the Pokemon style mechanics rob you of a good survival game fun experience.
SPEAKER_06Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_05It's not hardcore by any stretch of the imagination, but it's fun, and parts of it are quite challenging. Um, we played a lot of Power World. Volheim. Volheim is right up there and has just just gone, or is it going?
SPEAKER_03Goes to 1.0.
SPEAKER_05Goes to 1.0 really soon. Um, that'll bring in more players to that game. They've put in the end of the story. So uh we'll be back in that, hopefully, just you know, soon to try to experience some of that. Um, I'm not looking forward to the Ashlands. I kind of wish we could skip that part. Because I played the Ashlands and it kind of sucks. And by kind of sucks, I mean it sucks a lot. Um, but yeah, it's it sucks that that this is Destiny's last major update. Yeah. You know, and everybody's like, oh, the game is dead, the game is dead. No, but it is on life support at this point, it's in maintenance mode. They're not going to be any more major content updates, barring some unforeseen circumstance. Now, you want to force the hand, let 100,000 players on Steam and 300,000 players overall still be here in three months.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_05Then suddenly you'll start to make start Sony. Will, if they don't sit up and pay attention, well, then we know for sure that they're just using this as a loss leader and they don't really care. Right. Um, but the PR nightmare, this is already a PR nightmare, to be fair. Well, that's the thing, is it's already a PR nightmare. But that would make it even worse, if it could get worse. Um, I why you bank on this this IP versus the tried and true IP. And and yes, Dev, I agree with you. They're basic the the recent player numbers might not show that, but I think the current player numbers show that the past numbers show that that that there is still a massive amount of interest in this IP. Um right, and that's where your money is. Yep. If you want to have any hope of truly making back that $3.7 billion you spent, well, it's not in marathon. No. As good as that game may be, and and in, and for an extraction shooter that's more of a more on the harder edge of that genre, it's good. I will I won't I won't say it's not.
SPEAKER_03It's not in marathon, it's just not my bad either. It's not in marathon, it's in Destiny. I I know right. The money is in the IP that is well known. Marathon is a marathon is not a well-known IP. Marathon, marathon was a dead IP. For all intents and purposes, it was dead. And they decided to try to bring it back.
SPEAKER_05Everybody was like, wait, what?
SPEAKER_03Marathon? What?
SPEAKER_05We're finally gonna get Half-Life 3. What? Right. Oh, uh But we got we got Destiny 2 on the news before GTA GTA 6 drops, so I mean, you know, there's that.
SPEAKER_03Alright. And but alright, Chad. Oh god. Alright, chat. I've got to go feed the kid because he's he's begging for food again. Um, I'd want to thank each and every one of you for hanging out with us tonight. I appreciate it. Um this show yes, buddy. I was going to the I love you. Love you too. Okay.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_03All right.
SPEAKER_05Love you too.
SPEAKER_03Feed you in a minute. Yeah, right. But seriously, guys, we love uh we love doing this show. Thanks for hanging out.
SPEAKER_05Who's on? Where can we take us? Well, Nell's on. We can take us.
SPEAKER_03But I'm pretty sure Nell's on. We have some nothing now.
SPEAKER_05Or Mills is on, he's playing the show.
SPEAKER_03Let's see. Um, I don't know.
SPEAKER_05Just took over the Nell. What the hell? Um but yeah, so thanks, guys. We do appreciate it. Thanks for coming back and listening to us ramble, talking with us. Um, your conversation is always welcome.
SPEAKER_03Absolutely. We'd love y'all.
SPEAKER_05Differing opinions are always great.
SPEAKER_03We love y'all. We'll be back with some more stuff this week, I'm sure. Uh who knows what, but we'll see. We love y'all. We'll talk soon.
SPEAKER_02It's not one of those. Yeah, it's ra no it's not.
SPEAKER_04Uh that is almost sea table.
SPEAKER_02No, Freebird, thanks for the raid, my guy. Are there some inside there, Comfy?
SPEAKER_04Uh you know, no.
SPEAKER_02Do you have your weapon of sorrow out?
SPEAKER_04I'm equipping it. C table, right here, bud.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Then we need an A, which is on the other side. I'll get it.
SPEAKER_04Yep. And then it was division stun, I believe, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh Squid Face.
SPEAKER_04Squidward. Is that the curved line table thing? Uh the middle one is uh no, it's the two lines above a table.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_04Yep.
SPEAKER_02There we go.
SPEAKER_04Oh wow, soul fire sucker. The soul sucker. Activity unavailable.
SPEAKER_02Oh, it's because I need to click it on. All right. Shall we?
SPEAKER_01Guardian, you secured Dragon Cole's weapon of sorrow, but we're still detecting hive activity around the stronghold. The drifter and I will run support.
SPEAKER_00I know old men have said this since the dawn of time, but damn kids these days got no respect. Back when I was a dread, we weren't against the light.
SPEAKER_02Come on, boys!
SPEAKER_01But that don't kid pearls got the outer nine in 'em now. And we have the nine's weapon on point. Good hunting guardian.
SPEAKER_02Alright. Alright. Alright, so look, now here's the new mechanic. You see this crystal in front of me? Let's go back to where we were.
SPEAKER_01If Bale can utilize Soulfire, he can forge guardian killers. He didn't need Balse weapon. He needs the blueprint. With that, he can make an arsenal.
SPEAKER_00The false weapon arrives, shooting mindlessly wherever they're pointing.
SPEAKER_03What do we have bonus worms?
SPEAKER_02Oh, I think we gotta run all the way back to where we were. I think there's a crystal in that room.
SPEAKER_00Oh yep.
SPEAKER_02Boom. Alright, let's go back down.
SPEAKER_03Damn, I will speak you and we're dumb.
SPEAKER_02I don't think there was a worm in here. At least I didn't see one. I'm gonna go back up real quick. Don't jump all the way down.
SPEAKER_01Storage chambers. Transmission works. This isn't just a storage storage. Or two. They've built a forge.
SPEAKER_03I'm going down.
SPEAKER_02Yep. Uh wait. Oh that's wait. Where am I? Oh, it's just a way to get down here. Okay. Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. Just like keep your heads on the swivel for the worms. Alright. Proceed. False wire.
unknownYou're in the football.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_05Thank you for shooting your glowing gun out of the hole.
SPEAKER_04So we know where to go. That's what I do too.
SPEAKER_01He's clearly looking for another way to strike us. I love it when you shoot it out of the hole. I almost respect the grit. You took more than his hand from him.
SPEAKER_02It's down here, by the way. Give me my worm.
SPEAKER_05For me.
SPEAKER_04Got it. Oh, this might be bad.
SPEAKER_02Okay, then there should be another Oh yeah. That crystal over there.
SPEAKER_03Yeet. That one hits.
SPEAKER_02And then there's a third one. Clean found the third one, so I don't exactly know where it's at. Oh wait. I think I do. No, this is where the worm is. There you go. I'll be up there shortly.
SPEAKER_05It appears on closer inspection that the floor is made of lava.
SPEAKER_02Yes, it is.
SPEAKER_04Also, fun fact, fun show to watch.
SPEAKER_02Shit. I think. Grab this. Well, I'm pretty sure it's just throw it at the soul fire. It is it is not. Oh wait. I see it. It's up there. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yes. Come on, Copy.
