Sad Maxx: Crosby Owed
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
The boys return from their self-imposed podcast Rumspringa to discover that Pizza Odyssey has collapsed, Eagles free agency has detonated, and Maxx Crosby may have been the victim of the most suspicious medical exam since a Baltimore DMV vision test. Along the way they rank childhood cereals like it’s the NFL Draft, debate the morality of the Ravens organization, invent the TJ Maxx Defensive Line, and accidentally create the first ever Cereal Mascot Podcast Extended Universe. A surprise Steelers fan call-in delivers accusations of tampering, the hosts declare Baltimore a banned city, and the episode ends with March Madness plans and the promise of recruiting completely random guests off the street. It’s sports analysis, grocery store philosophy, and cereal-based sociology—all in one very concerned discussion about Maxx Crosby’s knee.

Welcome everyone to the 17th inaugural episode of the Seth Podcast. I'm your host, Dr. Tat, and with me as always. Panda Dan. Stepway. A little rusty there, but hey, you know, that's that's the way it goes. How was your Rum a Springer, Dan? It was great. Yeah, it's great to be back. Great to be back. It was good, but but I'm so happy to be back. That's kind of how I would put it. You know, like it we I did enjoy the rum springa, but I I feel at home here and I've missed you guys. And yeah, I I didn't reach out to you guys a whole lot during it. I didn't want to, you know, bother you. I wanted everyone to have a nice peaceful retreat from from the pod, but but we're back and I think we're all recharged and ready to go. And I I know our listeners have been like waiting for this moment, you know, when they can go in their Spotify or their Apple podcasts. Well, a lot has happened. Yeah, a lot has happened. Yeah, we have a lot to discuss. Yeah. But how about you guys? Yeah, no, we were doing well. I you know, some of us have to work for a living, so you know, we don't have the financial stability to just, you know, up and abscond the state of Pennsylvania during snowstorms.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but you know, I had some sad news occur during this period. I uh I found out that Pizza Odyssey closed. Really? I was almost devastating, yeah, I was devastated. That's a major sponsor. I mean, I don't know how it's sponsoring us from I did not know that. Damn, we're gonna need some of your fit right now. This is this is true. And it happened like in the fall, so it was a couple bucks. Yeah, they were still paying. Yeah, they were still paying us this. Well, they owed us a lot. That's probably why they went out of business. They maybe thought we were gonna bring them back. Like, yeah, so we're gonna jump on this guy.
Self-Help Advice: Just Run From Your Problems
Eagles Free Agency Recap
SPEAKER_05They're like, huh, nobody's buying pizzas from us anymore, despite the set hike bump. That's crazy. Oh my god. So Pizza Odyssey was always on it was on a road called Warrior Road and in Drexel Hill, and then they moved to what was it? Yeah, I guess that was like Cornell. State Road State. Yeah, they're on state in like Cornell or something. Yeah, on the corner. Because when that yeah, I don't know how many folks are familiar with Pilgrim Gardens, but when Tony Rooney's opened, they they just took it was kind of funny because they took off like the day Tony Ronin's opened. They were like, We're out of here. And they found a new location. Well, you know, I mean it was good though. Yeah, I mean there's cheese stakes. There's the new Christopher Nolan film coming out pretty soon, the Odyssey. And it's about traveling. You know, when you have trouble and problems, you you go away from them. Hence a rum a springer, right, Dan? You know, you just have to when life gives you challenges, you run away. I mean, that's that's some would say you attack them and address them, but but others say just running. Just go. Just get the hell out of them. Yeah, I would I would vote for the latter, I think. Yeah, it's it's less stressful. You just run away from your problems. I mean, you know, if you put it under the rug long enough, I mean it'll probably go away. Yeah, that's what I've learned. This is also like a self-help podcast. Like, we don't just talk about sports, like we also tell you how to address life's problems. So that that's what you should do. I think that's right. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, a lot going on. I think we have to show some prudence here and kind of acknowledge that Jordan Davis is going to be an eagle for a very long time. How do you feel about that? Yeah, I'm glad he brought that up, Jim. I I actually listened, I know his his his uh press conference. I think it was cool that they did a press conference with him. He was very well dressed, too, because credit to Jordan for uh style. I didn't see Panda Day. He had like an awesome suit on. I think he had like a handkerchief, nice glasses. Just he looked very styled.
SPEAKER_04It almost looked like he was preparing for his Hall of Fame because they had the same color as like a Hall of Fame jacket.
SPEAKER_05Oh, like uh kind of that copper bronze, you know, similar to that. JPC would be, you know, uh very over the top. Yeah, like you would have thought that was like his retirement press conference, like the way it was, it was just like this like celebratory, like, but it was it's for the extension, right?
SPEAKER_04Yes, three years seventy-eight. Do you think he's like like Albert Haydensworth, where he like got his huge contract and then completely disappeared in football? Do you think this is the case? He's just like, Yeah, I got it. I'm good, I'm retired.
SPEAKER_05Certainly, certainly don't, certainly don't want that. I think that would be the opposite of what the Eagles were aspiring for. Certainly a possibility. I think it was yeah, it was a good press conference. I I would encourage everyone to listen if they haven't. But yeah, he he's just a great yeah, he seems like a really cool guy, great locker room guy. He had a great year. You know, the the question, obviously, we're pro Eagles folks, so we we just you know, I think we think he's awesome, but like that it's like if I was an outsider, I would say, well, did he just play well because of that contract here? Or is you know, hopefully he keeps the gas, the foot on the gas. And it was cool to see like Jalen Carter was at that press conference, like he didn't have to be there, but and it's yeah, so we could talk about Jalen Carter too, but Clint Hurt was there, his D-line coach. So yeah, I mean that was a good yeah. I mean, we could talk all about Eagles free agency, but that was probably the brightest thing that's happened. And then let's I think perhaps go to the darkest. You know, we're a podcast of contrast, and I think we lost one of certainly Dr. Tat's favorite players, and I did go in the third person there, Stat Boy, but Nicobe Dean is no longer with us. Yeah. Let's all take a moment of silence here. Seth. Yeah, yeah. So I it was it was hard. Yeah, it was real tough. But I think his cowboys, though. That was he has cemented his place as a beloved Eagle because I think he I I tell you, he he was a bird and then he flipped Dallas the bird, moving west on his way to LA, or excuse me, Las Vegas. I I it's fantastic. He can do no wrong in my book with that because I bet it was a similar contract. I think Jerry really wanted him. And yeah, N'Kobe Dean's gonna be in the AFC. We probably won't see him too much. I definitely don't want to see him blitz Galen Hurts because that would be trouble. Yeah, yeah, Nicolas. But good for him is the man. But good for him. Yeah, it is good for him. He got paid. Yeah. Yeah, he was. I mean, he would blow up when he would blitz. Like, I remember he would just boze through running backs and guards and centers. And I remember he had that one critical interception against Jacksonville. I remember that like cemented the game. So he just had injury issues.
SPEAKER_04Well, that was the reason why we drafted Campbell was because we thought Dean's, there's no way he's coming back and gonna be as productive as he was in his early phases. So when he came back and he actually started playing really well, and we're like, whoa. Yeah, that's what put jihad back on the bench.
Eagles Free Agency Recap Using Grocery Shopping
SPEAKER_05Yeah, so we you know, we kept jihad Campbell, who just had another shoulder surgery, so we shouldn't really I think we'll just ignore that, right? Talk about problems we should just run away from. I think you know, Vic seems to not worry about it at all. Yeah, that was like news. No one really knew that. And then Vic's like, yeah, he won't be back. So like, you know, training family. It was like, shut the hell up, dude. What are you talking about? Yeah, but and you got Trotter there, and you got Mondon, smile, smile, mandon. You should all you got some depth at the linebacker position. Obviously, he got Zach Bone. But yeah, I mean jihad played well when Nacobe was out at the beginning of the year. So I mean, I yeah, I I yeah, Nacobe Dean's great, but I I think it was the right choice to to let him take that contract. You think so? Yeah, I mean you didn't want to keep him. I mean, I wish, but yeah, I mean we can't pay all the time. I don't think it was a bad decision. Yeah, like it makes sense. We just can't, you know, the Eagles this year, everyone wants every player that's available, but you have to you when you get to the grocery market, you you can't buy everything in every aisle. You just can't. And you know, the Eagles fans are like children, and you're the guy, you know, that GM is the one that's pushing the cart, and you know, we're all walking around, we're like, oh, can we have the cookie crisp? Can we have the waffle crisp? Did you ever have either of those? Especially when you're hungry. You ever go grocery shopping when you're hungry? Oh, that's the worst. Why would you do that? You'd buy some ideas. But what was your what's your favorite cereal, Dan? And I want you to answer this question as an eight-year-old, an 18-year-old, a 28-year-old, and a 38-year-old. Yeah, there you go. All right, so eight-year-old, yeah, eight-year-old Panda Dan, what was his favorite cereal? Lucky Charms. 18-year-old Panda Dan, what was his favorite cereal? Honey nut Cheerios. 28-year-old Panda Dan, what was his favorite cereal? Cinnamon Toast Crunch. 30, whatever. I I don't know how old are you. What are you? 48, 50. We'll go, we'll just stop at 38. 38-year-old Panda Dan. Lucky Charms. Wow. He was gone bullshit. I mean, why not? Is that just because it's March right now? Yeah, it is. You know, you gotta relive it. That's I I'll tell you what, that's excellent. Is that okay? I I think it's wonderful. So you went you briefly had a like a fling with CTC as uh you know, when you were coming out of your mid-20s. Yeah, yeah. That's because everyone did the shot, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_04The cinnamon toast crunch.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, do you think it was because you were a raging alcoholic, or was it just mostly just the I think it's like a midlife crisis, like just like I just that was like my my like. It's good to know that you think you're gonna live to 56, because then we're gonna have to find another host after that. So we'll have to see. That's okay. I was kind of looking for another host for, you know, because if we had gone more than 14 days, contractually we'd have to find another host.
SPEAKER_04Well, that's why we have all these guests. We're just in we're eventually interviewing for our new host. Yeah. Yeah.
The Great Cereal Draft & Mascot Power Rankings
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Well, like we said, I'm like I'm kind of like JT and NSYNC or Beyoncé and You might go selling it. I think so. It's bound to happen. I think so. And I think once we get enough of the AI technology, we'll eventually just have bots that are actually going to be the ones talking and give like silly things like who cares about working on that. Who cares about what cereal you liked at eight years old? My eight years old was Waffle Crisp. Okay. My 18 was honey nut Cheerios, my 28-year-old. That's wild. So we were both honey nut at 18. 18. Yeah, I mean, that was that was the college cereal, I thought. Because it was always it was like half healthy, half fun. You know, I think so too. Yeah. I mean, you felt kind of good about it. And then what was 28? 28, I I really had a nice phase with raisin bran and fiber. And then I I fell away from it. Now now my kids have honey nut Cheerios, so I actually kind of did a similar thing. So we're all honey nut, we're HNCs right now. Yeah. I didn't I I always respected cinnamon toast crunch. I always did. But I always thought, I mean, it makes sense that you would like it because you know, one of your favorite, you know, mascots are chefs, and I believe it's a chef with like a cinnamon thing in his hand. Or I guess he maybe he has a spoon. What's the name? We have to find out the name of the cinnamon. Isn't he holding a spoon, the cinnamon toast crunch guy? But the the spoon has a name? Is that what you're describing? No, no, the guy with the spoon has a name. We're gonna have to look that up. Did you guys have waffle crisp growing up? Because that was just uh silly. I mean, that was just maple sugar into it was I like heard about it, but I never really went into it. Not familiar with waffle crisp. I mean, they were just like these big hunks of like maple sugary was the mascot.
SPEAKER_04What was the mascot?
SPEAKER_05The mascot for I think I knew it was just a waffle cone. No, no, no. I'm not talking about waffle crisp anymore. Stay with it. Cinnamon toast crunch. Yeah, I know what you're talking about earlier. Yeah, like the guy. I know. Okay. Well, Statboy, I need your answer. How about Statboy? Yeah. Stat Boy's in his mid-70s, so it's gonna be tough. We could do like nine cereals. Yeah. Are you allowed cereal anymore?
SPEAKER_04I was a big fan of uh Frosted Frosted Nini Wheats. Yep, here we go. This is my Frosted as a young kid. And then I went into the I didn't really have those kind of interesting cereals at a young age, so I ended up going back and ended up going to Captain Crunch Crunch Berries when I got into like the 18 range because I was like, dude, this milk's amazing. You know, is it so? Does make good milk? Yeah, and then I uh moved into my 28 year. I I don't eat as much cereal, but every now and then I do like uh cheers. Yeah, I like kicks. Kicks are good.
SPEAKER_05What the hell's kicks?
SPEAKER_04You've never had kicks? No, it's like an orange box. Yeah, it's an orange box. They're kind of like one kick.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, you're kind of like can't this like spell it. K-I-C-K-S. No, there's an X. I've never heard of kicks. No, yeah, yeah. How many X's? Two X's? They didn't get three. Is that a cereal?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah. I might have to look at it, but that sounds lame. And then what was the last one? It was delicious. What was it? It was kind of like plain. Yeah, it wasn't that good. Yeah, because I think most of it's it's just K-I-X.
SPEAKER_04But that's what I that's why I said I went back into, you know, a more healthy version of something. So is kicks healthy? It seems more healthy. It's not as sugary as all like the stuff that you can do. And then how about how about your 38th year? I don't eat cereal anymore. So you just quit. Don't even let you gave it up. Yeah, I'm done. Good for you. Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_05So kick's the habit. Kick, yeah, there you go. Yeah, because I think most cereals are either corn-based or rice-based, right? Isn't that kind of the idea? I guess.
SPEAKER_04Corn, rice, and you have wheat, frosted mini wheats and like that. Like what's cheerios? Cheerios are oh boy.
SPEAKER_05They're like boy, we're really eastern. No, no. Honey nut cheerios. Honey nut Cheerios have to be uh I gotta think that that's like a puffed rice cereal. Ah really? I think most of the things are like rice product that gets a whole whole grain oat. Oh, Jesus. We should know that. Yeah. I do know that the honey nut Cheerios has the B. And the B kind of sh in shapes as well, which I always found interesting. Yeah. Yeah. But who's like I I think the all-time I mean, Captain Crunch, you can't go wrong. Yeah, who's the best cereal manager? Although, did you notice how they always spelled it Cap Bin, like C-A-P, Apostrophe N? It made me think that he actually never was in the military. Yeah. I think he was like a bit of, you know, do we even know if he's kind of a fraud? Yeah, I I think it's stolen valve. Fruit loops was twocan sam or something.
SPEAKER_04I I think Dan.
Tariq “Reek the Freak” Woolen Breakdown
The Maxx Crosby Discussion Begins
SPEAKER_05I think that's how you added fishing for our first Jamaican split. Tucan Sam. We ate with the Tucan Sam. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, he's our guy. Yeah, he was cool too. Uh Toucan Sam is I I would say it. He was yeah, he was cool because he had like a bit of a uh British Isles accent too. Yeah. He'd be like, Follow your nose. Yeah. Right? He was the guy with the nose? Yes, he has a nose. He's a two can. Well, it's a beak, but they he always said follow your little nostrils on it, though. Yeah. Yeah. And then of course, Lucky Charms has Lucky the Leprechaun. I think he's probably the most well-represented stereotype. Cocoa Puffs. I ate a lot of those. I forget. Don't they have? Cocoa puffs. Yes, they're good. They always had like the milk was always good after because chocolate milk. You could really rank your cereals based on the milk they created, right? Because I think the post honey nut Cheerios milk was just a great it was just honey. It was solid. Yeah. Milk and honey is just a classic. Catherine Crunch Crunchberries made amazing milk. That's what it's like. Yeah, I'm not a big Crunchberry guy. Listen out. Listen out. So yeah, I you know, I think it's important for us to acknowledge that free agency was a bit hectic this year. I and the Eagles, you can't sign everyone. You can't pay everyone. When you have a great roster, there's only so much amount of money that you can pay. Yeah. And you have to think about the future and the present and how they fight each other, right? Yeah. I mean, I don't know how you know, everyone's busy this time of year. Like, I don't know how many folks know what what went down. Some people get their Eagles news from set hike, you know. So like so we lost Nicoby, we re-signed Jordan. We lost Reed Blank and ship. I know some folks were upset about that. Yeah. Team Captain last year. Great story. Lost Dotson, John Dotson. Yeah. Yeah. I mean we signed Grant Calgatara. We signed Braden Mann. Munt. Johnny Munt. Yeah, he was an act. Oh, and then Reek Woolen. We gotta talk about him. He's probably the biggest. Yeah. That's our big sign. Does he go by Reek or Tariq? So his first name. So he had a press conference today, too. It was pretty, it was solid. So his name's Tariq Woolen, but he goes by Reek. He goes by Reek. Like you'll you'll R IQ. You'll look out at places. R.I.Q. R.I.Q. It's important he goes by R-IQ because you know us Thrones readers would be a little worried about getting someone named Reek onto our. You're familiar with Game of Thrones, Dan? Not really. Like I know it. Yeah, so of course. Yeah. And so there was a character named Reek who previously was actually I mean, I know like that people are probably like screaming right now, like, you know, you know, I know it's like super popular, but I was doing other cool stuff. A minimum of like five people listening to this right now are like, ah, of course, Dan. Yeah. But yeah, Reek was the I'll call it an alter ego. Basically, the ward, Theon Greyjoy, of the from Winterfell was with the Starks. He was taken as a ward. You're familiar with warding people during the medieval times? Sure. Yeah, so of course. Same spelling, R-I-Q. No, no, it's R-E-E-K. And that's my point is that, yeah, so eventually he gets kidnapped by this other despot who's from a rival clan, and when the Starks lose Winterfell, he becomes kind of like this. I think he's actually like fully castrated kind of eunuch slave of that person. But I don't want to delve too much into, you know, male genital mutilation. But you know, that that was something that I definitely don't want to tie with our cornerback number two. Yeah. But I think our backfield's going to be good now. What do you think? I mean, how do you feel about a Tariq Woolen? Reak Reek Woolen, excuse me, R I Q. Yeah, I mean, I think some would say it's you know one of the strongest cornerback group starting Q C Bs between, you know, you got Q Quinyan Mitchell, you got Kubernetes, and you got Reek. So they he's an interesting guy. I've I've read I heard a lot about him today. He's six foot four. He he ran like a four-two in college. So they said for a guy to like there's no unless that side. Yeah, and uh for that size, six foot four to run you know, four two, like he has extreme athletic skills. A bit of a head case, you could say, like a little bit similar to CJ GJ, I would say. Like he he he has a lot of like taunting penalties, especially in critical times. So that that happened. He did lose the starting job this year to Josh Job. I don't know if you remember Josh Job, but he was like on a ex-Eagle. Yeah, he was like a borderline Eagles cornerback undrafted. So but good for Josh Job. Like he's been doing well in Seattle. So yeah, Rek Woolen see he's not a good tackler. He's bad at tackling. Like he would admit that, but I've heard that. But they said he's amazing at recovery. Like even if he gets beat, like he can just quickly recover because he's just athletic, speed. You know, it's a one-year deer, one year deal, 15 mil, so it's like a like he well, 12 mil with incentive uh uh incentives for 15. So like he has strong incentive to you know to play well. He probably won't be here longer than one year, like unless he had like an amazing year, like and we were like, we need this guy, but but yeah, he has a lot of you know motivation to play, I think. But yeah, I think I mean he'll probably be the now. We did also bring we talked about this guy a lot during the season with Michael Carter. He like that was like a quiet signing, but we did re-sign him too. So there's rumors like could he could he fill the blankinship role? Because I think he's played safety before. Interesting. I didn't hear that. So I mean, as of now, like you know, it's quite it's uh Quenyan, Rikuin, Coop, Makuba, and then who's gonna replace Reed Blankinship is the question. Yeah, no, well said, Dan. And I think it's important for us to, and I think you you put it uh quite well. This is a high ceiling move, and it's it's kind of uh how he does this from time to time where he takes a strength and makes it stronger, right? You know, he's he's really working on I'm sorry, Stat Boy, did you have something to say? No, just stringing the song. Okay, great in the background. Yeah, that's good. But yeah, he likes to make certain positions even better. And I I I would argue that you are looking at perhaps a top three. Like if if Reek Wollen plays like 2023 Reek Wollen, and even if he has a couple of CJ GJ esque moments and hot, you know, as long as he doesn't get kicked out of games, you're looking at probably the best coverage trio, you know, two outside corners and your nickel in the league. I I I would stack it up against anyone. And then what that does is it makes your D line and your edges get more time, right? If they're if if these wideouts aren't going to be able to get off, you know, it's it's all about the classic BS that we get fed from the defensive coordinators, you know, the pass rush and the pass defense are married together, right? It's it's similar to what we've talked about on the offensive side, right? The play action, the running, and the passing. Same thing happens in defense, right? You know, if the D linemen have more time to get to the quarterback, they're gonna get more sacks. If the D-linemen sack the quarterback quickly, the D the pass has less time that they need to cover. So it's kind of symbiotic. And it seems like we've somewhat shifted from being that let's get to the quarterback really fast and hope our cornerbacks hold up to let's cover these guys as well as we can and let our D linemen finish the job with a little bit more time. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, and that just made me think I I didn't mention Jalen Phillips, but we obviously f we lost him too, so I forgot that. We lost a lot. That's probably the biggest. But but he got paid like huge money, so it was probably the right choice. It comes back, there's just not enough money. Yeah. Yeah. I mean it's it's tough. Uh do you think he's got one more big move up his sleeve? Yeah, we'll see. I mean, so as of now, like Dallas Goddard's a big question mark. They they they did something where I forget exactly the details of it, but they did do something where like he they like delayed when he becomes a free agent. Like so like there that created a lot of hope that potenti even though they signed John E. Munt and and Grant Calcutta, like there's it was like, hey, like maybe we're gonna bring back Dallas Goddard, you know? Yeah, I think they extended the time with which they can uh before they void the contract or something along those lines. It basically for me it's like hey Dallas, we have this. I bet they gave him a number and then they said go you know go test the market, and if you don't have something that you want, come on back. And you know, it's it's the perfect abusive relationship for Dallas, and I think that'll be great. Yep. And then Max Crosby, obviously, there was that drama with Baltimore Ravens, so so you know, like he's I I haven't heard that he's got with anyone else, you know. He's got traded with anybody. No, he hasn't gotten with anybody else. Uh I think, Dan, you really we have a lot of draft picks to work. You know, we got compensate comp compensatory picks, so like those are big. And you you really struck a nerve there because for me, Dan, we have to discuss Max. Yeah. Max with two X's, like kicks with one. Oh, I thought you said it was one or two X. It's one X. Sorry, never mind, sorry. But Max with two X's, he's the only Max with two X's that I know that's a great pass rusher or really any Max. Do you know any other Maxes with two X's? No, I love them so a few thoughts. So I remember we talked about Max Crosby, actually at your house, Dr. Tat, during the season when we were playing the Raiders. Like, I remember we were like, so you know, like, what are you gonna talk about with the Raiders? Like, he's the first guy that comes to mind. Yeah. So we did give him positive commentary during that. I love the movie Mad Max. Um awesome, one of the best action movies I've ever seen. Do you go back to the original ones? Now that's with One X, but do you like the originals like back in the like? I never saw them, but I remember I used to have the pleasure of living with Scott, our our re our HF Hemory guest. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Computer Scott. Yeah. Yeah, I remember like one time we were talking about action movies and and we agreed that that was one of like the one with Tom Hardy's like. Fury Road, yeah. Yeah, like that's one of the best action movies ever. It won, I think, a dozen Oscars. We'll have to see. I I think it was exactly 12 Oscars, is what I'm gonna say. But regardless, I want to I I I definitely think that I remember sorry, can I say one book? Uh you can. You can say whatever you want. Say by the Bell, which was one of my favorites growing up. Yeah. The place they would always eat was called the Max. I remember. Was it really? Yeah, yeah, yeah. With one X or two X's? I don't know. I don't know. But that was like always where they were just hanging out. Nice. A lot of our culture guests would appreciate that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04My wife likes TJ's Max. It's apparently.
The Physical That Went Too Far
SPEAKER_05Yeah. That that's probably the only other Max that I mean type. With one X, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We're looking for double X's. But Dan, let's be honest, right? Dan, you're a you're a God-fearing Christian, I think, or a Mennonite on just finished his Rum Rama Springer. Whatever God you do or do not praise. Maybe an AJ Dillon disciple or something. You could be a Dylanite. I don't know. But I think it's important that we kind of look at the morality of people that are from Baltimore and how despicable they are. Whoa. How do you feel Max with two X's Crosby was treated with this? Uh I mean, I'm hearing rumors that Trey Hendrickson was there concurrently during the physical. For those that don't know, let me let me set the picture here for you, Dan. Max Crosby was picked up, traded by the Las Vegas Raiders to the I'll call them the Baltimore Ravens because that's their name, but I I have choice words for them, but I want to keep this, you know, uh an E, not an X-rated, single X-rated podcast. But he was traded by Las Vegas to Baltimore for two first round picks. The Baltimore Ravens never trade first round picks. So it to me it was uncharacteristically rich for them. And so he gets the physical. And during this, you know, leak quote unquote legal tampering period, he then has the physical. The man had surgery. Again, I'm not a doctor, but he had a meniscal surgery less than three months ago, a meniscal repair. And you're doing a physical, a full and and when you're doing an NFL physical, I mean, it is head to toe, man. They're counting every hair on your head. They are, you know, poking and prodding, and every orifice is checked. I mean, it is intimate, let me tell you. Yeah, every fingernail, every toenail is gonna be inspected. I mean, you are you are looking right at the Liz Frank. You are smelling the Liz Frank, Dan. I mean, it is, it is right up there. You're in their face. And I think, you know, the dude just had knee surgery, relatively speaking. And of course, his knee's still going to hurt. And then they they failed him on the physical and they said, Oh, this guy, I we can't have this guy. And what do they do almost immediately thereafter? Damn, what did they do? They got Trey Hendrickson. Trey Hendrickson. A scumbag move. I mean, I signed they signed him, or they signed him, yeah. Because he was a free agent and they realized, oh, we can get another very prominent edge rusher without giving up the two first round draft picks. And it was just the absolute I I think it was deplorable, is what the word I would use. I mean, how do you feel about it, Dan? Yeah, no, you're not the only one saying that, Jim. Yeah, they've they've gotten a lot of criticism. I know. Yeah. We have some Steelers fan listeners who were really pissed off about that, you know. And and yeah, and then what was the other thing? Yeah, just folks all like WIP's going crazy about it. Even like people were channeling back when we got Jair Alexander from the Ravens like during the year, and apparently like Ravens screwed the Eagles with that too. Like they said he like they make disclaimers. We need to have a decision. Hold on. Let's check, let's check in on our uh hold on a second. Oh, we have a caller. Hold on, we've got a call in. We have a caller. Yeah, we have someone a callie. Yeah. I actually think this might be Is it Mac Crosby? This could very well be. We'll have to see. Is it uh hello? Is that Hike? Hey, hey, good evening. Is this my brigadier general, Mr. Matt S. Lomo? Slam? Slam? Correct. Sloman?
SPEAKER_03You are cat. You are Dan and uh Stat Boy? That is correct.
Steelers Insider Call-In: Slomo Joins the Show
SPEAKER_05You are live to air on the Seth podcast. It is so funny because I wanted to be fantastic. Well, welcome, first off, Matt. Happy belated birthday. Happy belated birthday. Thank you. Thank you. It is a true travesty that we did not enjoy your time with us on here during the best month of the year, but we'll we'll settle for March. But you are our Steelers free agency tampering expert, and I wanted your take because Panda Dan just claimed that he didn't think the Baltimore uh situation was uh really that bad at all. And he said, you know, we have some Steelers fans listening in. I need to get your take on the situation.
SPEAKER_03Well well, first and foremost, I want to say as much as you know, we weren't able to talk during the month of February, hearing Andrew's soft, buttery voice was a perfect end to my month.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03A great belated birthday present.
SPEAKER_0512 thumbs up.
SPEAKER_03But with regards to the Baltimore Ravens situation, you know, in the words of that boy, why be less when you can be a cheater? Yeah.
SPEAKER_04No, it's be more. Be more, that's what it is.
SPEAKER_03Well, in this case, be a cheater. Yeah. No, uh, you know, it's a very interesting situation. I think it's clear, you know, the Ravens, or as my father calls them, the Rat Birds, that his nickname, as another diehard Steeler fan, and and I should get him to be a soon be listener on the Sethike podcast, um, is clear and obvious tampering by the Baltimore Ravens. The fact that the the fact that the trade you know went the way it did and and an obvious failure of the physical, which Dr. Tat, if you were a surgeon, I'd go to you for some advice on if the timeline between the injury and physical, you know, is enough time to gauge the timeline of a recovery of an injury of that sort. Or or maybe going into a physical only a few months reserve removed from a a meniscus tear and and surgery would you know can you tell how successful the the repair or the repair of the meniscus and and the recovery has been in that short period of time? I'll defer that to to an expert. But from my perspective, the fact that you saw within, I think, and Statboy, you may have to correct me uh if I'm wrong, I think it about within maybe 13 hours or so, there was, you know, pen to paper on a Trey Hendrickson deal for you know four years, I think 112 or 114 million. And and especially knowing Hendrix Hendrickson's past is you know holding out last year for the Bengals, it just all smells bad, you know, as a as the resident set hike Steeler fan. There's nothing within this uh situation that unfolded that I think shines any good light towards the city of Baltimore and specifically the Ravens organization.
SPEAKER_05Would you would you be surprised that such deplorable behavior was performed by these purple and black frauds? You know, I I think this is just par for the course. I mean, the punishment, you know, for me, I think should be at least two or three losses in the AFC North, correct?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think I mean guaranteed losses to the Steelers, I think is what what should be implemented by the NFL front office first and foremost. And you know, from there I think yeah, heavy number of penalties and fines and you know, whatever they can throw at them to prevent any future misdoings by the the Ravens organization is a must in this situation.
SPEAKER_05I think what we should do is the Steelers should automatically receive Max Crosby. And then what you do is you have you have your bookends be TJ and Max, and then you guys have the most dominant D line that has ever been an amazing place to be. The most amazing department store defensive line I have ever seen. And you should get it at a steep discount, just like the TJ Maxx near you.
SPEAKER_03Uh I mean, if that goes down, uh you know, you gotta consider renaming the stadium from AcuraShare Stadium to TJ Maxx Stadium. I think those Steeler fans, as well as you know, TJ Maxx, the company, would be you know watering at the mouth with an opportunity like that. I totally agree.
SPEAKER_05Lastly, I would love to get your opinion on your new, newly minted head coach McCarthy and the fact that I think he's trying to christen a one one name quarterback named Will Howard to take over your team. I think he's like the Beyoncé of the quarterbacking. And as you guys are held hostage for the second year in a row with uh one Aaron Rodgers, how do you feel about Will Howard?
SPEAKER_03Will Howard, I think, you know, from from my perspective, uh I feel like you have to play him. You know, Will Howard is either gonna either deliver you, you know, a late round gem, you know, diamond in the rough, such as a Tom Brady or Brock Purdy, or he'll deliver you a three-win season, which will then, you know, give us the promise of a a future franchise quarterback.
SPEAKER_04Maybe we get another Mason Rudolph situation where he starts swinging his helmet at people.
SPEAKER_05I think that would be great. I think a nice, you know, a nice rust belt race war would be perfect to enjoy. But I I wish, you know, Mike Briggs, I I wish you the most happiest X February, and I hope to see you very soon in the March time frame. And uh I wish you the best of luck with Coach McCarthy for the next 12 to 15 years.
SPEAKER_03Well, thanks that thank you, gentlemen. And you know, one fantastic job you're doing so far with with the podcast. And yeah, I'm excited to see another maybe nine and eight, ten and seven if we're lucky, season with a first round exit.
SPEAKER_04Yes, beautiful.
SPEAKER_03In a non-competitive wildcard playoff game. It's it seems as though Art Rooney is more inclined to have a winning season without winning a playoff game. So it's gonna be uh an exciting another 10 to 15 years uh uh of mediocrity.
SPEAKER_05Well, you can hold your six rings high, and you know it's it's a beautiful thing rooting in the Rust Belt. But we love you, buddy, and God speed. Yeah. Yep. Yeah, thanks for joining, Salima. You're one of our favorites and greatly appreciate it. Yep.
SPEAKER_03And I'm looking forward to I'm looking forward to listening tomorrow to uh chime in on some of the topics you guys uh discussed this evening. And uh you all all you three of you have a have a wonderful night. You too.
SPEAKER_04Screw Baltimore love you, buddy. See ya. Thank you. Yep. I look forward to editing this out later. Yes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Yeah. So Dan, I don't know. Did you I you you had a perplexed look on your face while he was going. Yeah, are you familiar with Will Howard? No. Well, well, we're not. So I got a little take on Max issue. Wait, why did we say it? Can you can you please pull up Stat Boy? Coach McCarthy in his Will Howard. So in his opening press conference, Coach McCarthy came on and he said, in in, you know, I'm not gonna I'm not one to disparage anyone except for the scumbags in Baltimore for their misdeeds, the Dallas Cowboys, and generally anyone that's against the Eagles. But Coach McCarthy, I would say, is not the uh sharpest tool in the shed. And he kind of he kind of talks like a, you know, bit of like a shave, it's like they got a bear out of the wood, shaved him down, and you know, taught him how to talk a little bit. And if you go to his if you listen to his opening press conference, he talks about a bunch of stuff, and he's like, Oh yeah, I uh we're very excited for Will Howard. And so he he said he's he said the the player's name is Will Howard. He was an Ohio State standout part of the championship. Can you do you think you can find the clip?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you want me to try to get it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, pull it up, yeah. Pull it up and we'll see if we get from Downingtown High School. Yeah, no, he's yeah, he is dumb. I agree. And it's just you know hey at West Chester. He keeps and he and he kept saying Will Howard. And so he just he doesn't he doesn't understand that there's a first and last name to people, and he just decided to just make it a continuous word. So, you know, much like Beyonce, seal, share, it's Will Howard. Yeah. Yeah, I had no idea what you guys think about. And he's probably going to be the starting quarterback for the Steelers if the Aaron Rodgers situation falls through. Like if Aaron Rodgers gets adopted by Aaron.
SPEAKER_03I feel like Aaron Rodgers is.
unknownWhoops.
SPEAKER_05Oh, you were oh, we're almost here. We're looking for he's he's trying to get the clip. It's it's it's quite it's quite interesting. We'll see if we can dig that up. But it's Will Howard. But he's not really like he shouldn't be a starter, right? Will Howard? I mean, it speaks volumes to McCarthy's general understanding of talent. You got it there, Staple, yet? Okay, but he's won a Super Bowl with Rodgers, right? Like back in the day. He did. Yeah. He did. And the question is whether or not Rogers will return. You know, we're not a full-fledged Steelers podcast, but I think we have to go back real quick. Do you disavow the city of Baltimore? Can I confirm that you will never go to the city of Baltimore again until justice is served for Max Crosby? Can I get you on point for that? He's not a Dan. Yeah. I kind of like like Inner Harbor and Dell's Point. I mean, Statboy, how do you feel about the situation? I probably won't be there.
SPEAKER_04Well, I mean, I was once a resident of Baltimore City itself. So I used to actually dabble with down there. And I have a little bit of a different take on the situation, but oh, please share your bias from your former time in the world. The thing is, I actually co-workers that still root for the Ravens, quite a few. So I do get that. I get I do get more information from that. Some on the staff here. It's uh, let's keep interrupting him because I don't want to hear the pro No go ahead, boy. I'm sorry. So I know the whole situation looks very fishy, of course, but you know, I the whole process to getting a player in a trade before it actually goes through with the physical approval, which is something that always occurs at the very end of the trade, is typically when a player is traded, the the team that is trading away connects their trainers and their doctors and all the medical information of the player gets sent to the team that's receiving. So there's a couple days before the player actually comes in person to the new team. So what clearly happened here is you know, they agree on the trade and they said, okay, good, we're gonna do this trade. So trade, give us all this information on the player's health, and we're gonna review it, and then we're gonna bring the player in and actually see it herself. So in that period of time, they received that information. There was some skepticism as far as what they were hearing back from the Raiders. They don't they don't really fully feel comfortable just yet. There was some speculation that there was something going on with what the imaging was showing before they received the player. So when they bring them to Baltimore to do the actual physical inspection of the player, there's some some concern that they're gonna agree with what they're seeing in their own eyes. So that's basically what happened here. So I think what happens is the Ravens, I mean, there's no way you bring them in and you already have a deal ready for another player. They know that Trey Henriksen was gonna be a hot player on the market. So they had to act fast.
SPEAKER_05They were both physically there at the same day.
TJ Maxx Philosophy & Ravens Defense
SPEAKER_04Yeah, because they knew they knew before he came in to actually get his real physical that there was something up. So they said, let's try to get both of them at the same time, review them at the same time. And if something we see on Cross we suspect is bad, then we can immediately sign Trey. I mean, uh And DeCosta, who's their GM, yeah, was also making the comment that there was an attempt to make them both Ravens. I personally tuned out to most of what you said.
SPEAKER_05That's fine. It's recorded. What I would say, yeah. It was a good one. I'm sure I'll listen to it. Good job. But your rationalization is completely false. And this is a situation like if I were to go to a TJ Maxx, right? There's one in Brewmall right near me. If I were to go Lawrence Park. Yeah. I mean, if you go there, you gotta go to HomeGoods too. Yeah. But anyway. We're a TJ Maxx podcast. I do like a beat. Lawrence Park has like everything. If anyone like ever needs to shop, like we're sponsored by Lawrence Park. We're sponsored by the entire park. And then you're gonna be able to do that. You get five guys, you get Starbucks, you get Cadoba. Yeah. And then you go shopping at TJ Maxx, Home Goods, Barnes and Noble. I mean you go to PJ PJ Wheelinghands for some wings of beer. Yeah, so I mean it sounds like you got 12 hours. TJ's and Max's You could spend more time at Lawrence Park than Max Crosby was a Raven. Wow. And and easily, right? I mean, and this is like I go, like I am going to a TJ Maxx, right? The situation with Crosby, and I like buy a pair of underwear, right, Dan? Like probably a nice pair of underwear at TJ Maxx at at you know the cheapest possible. If you go there, you're buying a nice pair of underworkers. Yeah, I mean, and I bet you could get super trip if you're gonna get it. Yeah, so you're you're getting you know the the high-end, let's say like Tommy Hill figure or something really nice, but you're getting it at like a huge discount, and that's why TJ Maxx is our preferred department store. Yeah. And you're going there, and I let's say I bought a pair of boxers, right? Yeah. And then I were to try on those boxers, and let's say they were a size too small, and then I were to rip them, and then I hand them back to the TJ Maxx and be like, These were ripped boxers. Please give me a refund. That's the type of behavior that the Baltimore ons did. I'm sorry. I just can't, I can't it's not like the Ravens busted his knee.
SPEAKER_04He did it on his You agreed to a trade. Tanya Hart. They did not agree to a trade until it was actually processed through a physical, which I did not agree. Here we go.
SPEAKER_05The the everyone, it was a handshake, it was two first-round picks, and they're like, oh, pending a physical. His knee hurt because he just had knee surgery.
SPEAKER_04I don't know why you're upset because this could be beneficial for the Eagles. Because if if Max goes back to the Raiders, the Raiders don't have the cap space they originally had. They have to get rid of some of these players they signed. Who signed with them? N'Kobe D. But that's part of the problem.
SPEAKER_05So let's root for this. The Raiders just spent all the money that they thought they had. They got Baltimore Center, right? They picked up a lot of a lot of people. And now they now they still have to pay Max Crosby.
SPEAKER_04Um they might have to get rid of some of the players they signed. There's a huge ramification of this. So it's beneficial for the Eagles for him to actually go back. And then the other situation, too, is which is another thing we've been talking about, is with Max's value on the market looking like it's less now because he's considered damaged goods. It's all how he sees it, baby. Let's walk in there, let's find a couple draft picks less than two firsts, and maybe wheel a deal, get it, get a player in over here. Maybe he he has some knee stuff, but we don't have to pay that kind of crazy two first for. Maybe we get him for like a a first and a fifth or something or something crazy. I know the Raiders are holding on two first. I'm out on Baltimore.
SPEAKER_05It's a trash city. It's it's done. Hey, you gotta give crap. I've officially am out. We are no longer supporting Baltimore listeners. Yeah. And I don't think we have have we ever had a Baltimore listener? Oh, yeah, we do. We have a Baltimore. Yeah, we had Baltimore. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Don't be talking too much trash.
SPEAKER_05I yeah, I'm willing to give up our date on that or two. I'd like to welcome our German listeners. We have a German listener? Yeah, we had a listen. I don't know if I told you that. Yeah. Wow. Yes. He's probably really fascinated by our Baltimore discussion. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, welcome. I don't know. What was it? Uh Guten Tag. That's uh that's hello. The Futentag? Yeah. Guten Tag. I you know what kind of cereal do you think they eat in Germany? Do they eat cereal in Germany? They probably just eat. They probably probably like sausage in the cereal. Sausage. I think they just eat like a hunk of venison. They just wake up and just bite into like you know what sausage flank of deer.
March Madness Preview & The Legendary March Madness House
SPEAKER_04Wasn't there a brewing place on Penn State's campus?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, there was a it was Austrian. Austrian. Okay, same difference. Yeah. It was like authentic Austrian. Yeah. That's what we're you guys talking about. I forgot what it was called. It was good though.
SPEAKER_04But the guy that like owned it was the actual like head chef too. Like he was the guy.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, they would if you didn't finish your food, they'd start yelling at you. It was like a very distractive thing. That's interesting. That's good. Good spot though. You schnitzel. You've traveled to Germany, and and when you were eating breakfast there, did you get cinnamon toast crunch? No. No. I was no. Yeah, I was in Munich. And and then I was also in Salzburg, Austria. Yeah, but great time. Salzburg Austria. I think you were too. I think we were there in the same summer. Yeah, yeah. We just we never coordinated. It wasn't like it wasn't like the Ivy League dad meetup. This was a lot different, you know. Yeah, I was just talking about Munich with some with uh I think uh yeah, family member or something. But yeah, I was I forget what we were talking about, but but yeah, cool spot. Yeah, nice. What is that? Ivy League. I do want to talk about that too. So Ivy League basketball tournament.
SPEAKER_00His coach will also call him. You know, that that second quarterback, a third quarterback. Oh, you're right. They need to emulate the starter. I'm excited where I'm going to something really excited about Will Hyde. Oh, there it is. Finally, he said his name right. Will Howard? They need to emulate the starter. I'm excited where I'm going to something really excited about Will Hyde. Oh, there it is.
SPEAKER_05Will Howard. Yeah. I'm really excited about Will Howard. I'm really excited, Dan. Yeah. Dan, what were you going to talk about? No, no. Um Ivy League. So we're obviously in I I'm not familiar with the Ivy League, Dan. Is that is that somewhere? Is that like fruit of the loom, Dan? Can I get that at TJ Maxx? Will Howard. Yeah, so it's conference tournament week in college basketball. We got March Madness, selection Sunday on Sunday. And so yeah, I'm a big fan of Philadelphia basketball, obviously. So we got so as of now we got so Drexel's out, LaSalle's out, Temple's out, Villanova's in the tournament. Penn and St. Joe's are potentially in the tournament. So St. Joe's, I think, plays Friday, Temple plays or Penn plays Saturday. It's in Cornell, you told us. Yale will play Cornell at Cornell, but Yale's the number one seed. That's on Saturday, and then the fine like they just do a two-day tournament. So the It's the top four, right? The top half of the week. Yeah, yeah. And the other four. Princeton's out. Yeah, yeah. Princeton's out. They didn't deserve to go in anyway. That Penn Princeton game was a travesty at the end. That was rough about it. Penn's a hot team right now. They uh yeah. They got this guy, TJ Power. He's awesome. He oh can't wait. Oh stay to talk at the time. TJ Power. TJ Power's the man. He was the you saw him. He was the tall guy, I think number 12. He he was the number one player out of Massachusetts in high school from Worcester Mass, which is where Holy Cross is. And he went to UVA, didn't play much, so then he transferred to Penn, and now he's like first team all Ivy. And I tell you what, he fits the he fits the theme of this year or this uh podcast, which is when life gives you struggles, you run away. You go to the Ivy League and you just absolutely dominate. Yeah, yeah. We're excited. Yeah, St. Joe's probably probably has to win their tournament. What was it, eight? I think they're in the Atlantic 10. I forget. And uh but yeah, Nova plays Georgetown in the first round in Big East, or at least for them, they had a bye. Yeah. But yeah, exciting stuff. Exciting stuff. So uh, you know, I think uh as I'm trying to talk over Statboy, you know, one of the things we have to tell you inside baseball like Vern Lundquist just. I did too. We were like Bill Rafter, yeah, just Vern Lundquist. Onions! And yeah, no, I think you know what we have to tell everyone here at the Seth podcast is that we've given our most immature member of the trio control of all of the audio, which has led to random acts of Will Howard and you know, now he's trying to let us talk about the Ivy League under the uh background. So if during the podcast you hear random rumblings of, you know, God knows what, you know, I'm just ferreting back here. Yeah, yeah. He's just gonna be there. So and shout out to our one, so March Madness. We have a friend, uh, just for privacy, I maybe well, we could say it. No, no, no. I'll leave it on the invent. Yeah, let's put the address out. Yeah, yeah. Our friend Scott is the man, and he basically rents a house for all of March. We won't say where it is. Well, it's his third, it's his third make a wish, actually, uh, is that he was able to procure a house, right? Yeah, and I think he's going to rent a house in the Philadelphia area, and he's gonna watch every game of March Madness, and his his family flies in. Like it's like a you gotta respect it. Yeah, yeah. And we'll be there. We'll we might do this podcast from there one of the days, and yeah, like I plan to go. Yeah, we're we're gonna do a full March Madness discussion. You basically walk in the house, you just see who's there, and you watch basketball. Yeah, I'm gonna keep my shoes and socks on though, because you know HFM is highly contagious. So you just gotta be careful. Um but with all due respect, you know, I think it'll be pretty clean, but you know, I would I would buy an extra pair of you know high-end socks at deep discounted prices at your local TJ Maxx. Yeah, deep. I might say like double underwear just to be careful. Well, just make sure you get the right size and not try to return them Max Crosby style. Yeah, yeah. But yeah, March Madness, exciting stuff. Yeah, we got a lot, you know. Yeah. I want to finish our Max. I I know nobody else wants to tell. Do you think the Eagles should like what's the status of like do you think like I'm I actually don't know? I want Max Crosby. Like, do you think Howie is right now negotiating a deal for Max? Yes. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I mean, I I would definitely ask him about it. You know, he's always he's got Howie. He always got his Howie goes to TJ Max, baby. It's Howie sees it. He's got his binoculars out and he's he's like looking at the biggest.
SPEAKER_05He loves Philly. Like, yeah, yeah. Like even when we played the Raiders this year, like like Max Crosby was just like it was pretty rare to hear an opponent. Like he was like, Philly's amazing. And and Lane Johnson, the greatest eagle of all time, he's been tweeting about about Crosby. Like, yeah, yeah, you know. So like there's a lot of I think the fit of the wouldn't it be the perfect fit? Yeah. I mean, he is just high motor, hard working, doesn't leave the field, just and and not only is he a prolific pass rusher, he sets the edge. I mean, I mean, Fangio would go. I mean, how many how many meaty, like meaty meatballs would Max Crosby get to hold next year?
SPEAKER_04Well, you only get a meatball if you're like the second best player, right? Because if you're the best player, you get a game ball, you don't get any meatballs.
SPEAKER_05Well, we know Rek Woolen is gonna be kind of the top guy. And there's gonna be we have such a strong defensive backfield that you know, I think that Max Crosby's gonna be really strong. Yeah. You got Nolan Smith, you got J-Lex Hunt was awesome last year. I think BG said he's coming back. Yeah, but do we want him back? And then you got you still got you know, you got JD, JC, and a Jomo. So yeah, Crosby, that's a hell of a you know, pass rush. Yeah, and I think we have to acknowledge that Crosby is a great last name for prolific uh athletes, right? You've got Sidney Crosby, you've got Max Crosby. Yeah. I'm trying to think of other famous Crosby. That's about Bing Crosby, I bet, was a good athlete. Yeah. Do you think he was a good athlete? Do you know who Ben Crosby is? Yeah, didn't he sing White Christmas? Yeah, he did. Yeah, yeah. He did. Yeah, and I mean that's perfect for probably not a good athlete. He's probably just saying, well, there's it's hard to say, you know. I feel like people in uh because I I want to say and and correct me here, Statboy, but Bing Crosby was around in what the he he was probably like kind of crooning. He was a bit of a crooner, you know, Dan, like you. In like what, the 50s and 60s, maybe. I don't know what that means, but yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Crooning is when you, you know, you you sing in a very raspy way. I think is look up the definition of crooning for me before I butcher that. Speaking of the last name. Do you not sell crooning? You're from Baltimore, so I don't know.
SPEAKER_04It's C-R-O-O-N-I-N-G. Yeah, give me a definition. Singing or humming in a soft, low, intimate voice. Often that's it. Often it just definition just stopped.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, there it is.
SPEAKER_04Oh you read that was No, it's often sentimentally.
SPEAKER_05Oh, okay. Yeah. I I feel like yeah, maybe it doesn't have to be raspy, but yeah. And and when was he around? He was in like he peaked in what, the 40s or 50s? Bing, yeah, I believe so. Bing?
SPEAKER_04Is that his real name? Bing? Yeah, Bing as in like the search engine. Bing. Yeah. He was born in uh 1903.
Podcast Outreach Plans
SPEAKER_05Yeah, so he was he was kicking it in the 40s, 50s. And I feel like athletes back then, you you never really knew if someone was a good athlete or not, because they never really did anything athletic. Because back then the NFL was like boxing, so people just beat the crap out of each other, and and then you know, the the real athletes. They had other jobs. Ben Eric was like a concrete guy. Yeah, concrete Charlie. Yeah, man. So I felt kind of bad, not to go on a tangent, but last names, right? So like by all means. The last time we did this podcast, we were talking about the president, presidential last names, and athletes paired with them. Yep. At least I I felt kind of bad the next day because I was like, wait, Jalen Carter and Jimmy Carter, you know? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We forgot that one. Yeah, JC. Yeah, both JC. I I mean uh Carter's presidency is coming back in vogue, you know? It's gonna be exciting. I can't wait to, you know, wait in gas lines with all the other Jalen Carter fans. So it's good. I'll I'll wear my jersey when I do that. Yeah. So yeah, I think that we should probably move into the next steps of the of the episode. Let me check my thing here. So we'll check your thing. What we normally do on the sethike podcast. Yeah, I just want to remind folks too, like sethike pod at gmail.com if you ever want to reach out to us. That's just that just checked one of my things. We we we plug that in. I can I tell a dumb story. If you ever want to be on you could be on as a guest, that's like the ultimate experience. Ultimate. Or that's the ultimate pizza odyssey experience. Or you could we could call you. We prefer in-person, but we also do just randomly call people. Yeah, like we're like calling like Slow Sloma did an amazing job tonight and a great job last week. Um here we go. Yep. But uh But yeah, well I do want to like find like some cool cool people to call too. Like I'm gonna start reaching out to folks and yeah, you should tell them that you're an amateur podcast. People we know and people we don't know. People we don't I would love to get I want at least one person we don't know. Like, I just think that'd be cool. I would love to get like the former owner. But I want it to be like a pizza honesty. Yeah, yeah. I want it to be someone that everyone knows, but like no one would ask to be on a podcast. Yeah, like maybe. Oh yeah, or like someone like yeah, the owner of Pizza Odyssey. Yeah, no. Well, I've I've got I'll open up the roller bigger. Yeah, it'll be good. Like that one author, like I'm gonna reach out to this guy, the guy that wrote that book of the animals fighting each other. Oh yeah. Like, I don't know. I mean Jerry, his name is you you let me know. Jerry, if you're listening, I'm gonna I'm gonna find out. If you get a hold of Jerry, I will bring uh I will bring young uh my young Tadawan uh and have him join because he's got big opinions on animals and how they do it. You know who's in the one of the books is actually a raven and it actually loses, which makes brings me great joy. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Who is it?
Fan Mail & Slayer's Sound-Off!
SPEAKER_04You said who's in the book?
SPEAKER_05No, no, no. The the Animal the Raven is in the book and it loses, which is appropriate. All right.
SPEAKER_04Is it fan mail time? It is fan mail time. All right, fan mail time. This is from our Virginia listener. Oh yeah, he seems to like to call or you know, write us. Loyal listener. Doesn't want to talk. Yeah, shout out to Madge. He starts up by saying, Good evening, said Hike. Good evening, Madge. Good evening. Good evening, good day. I hope this email finds you well, especially with all the Mikhai Becton rumors floating around. Oh because apparently he was in Philly signing autographs this past weekend. I don't know if he knew that. I don't know. I didn't know. Really? Or where? I don't know. He doesn't say how does the guy from Virginia know about his line? He's dialed in. He's dialed in. He is dialed in. He's in. And then he wanted to, you know, set off. He wanted to set this off with a little trivia question. Set off. And his question starts with so it's for you two because I had the answers here. He says, Who are the top ten worst NFL franchise in terms of record in the last decade? So, based on the record over the last 10 years, give me the top ten worst teams. Let's go back and forth, Panda. We could get this.
SPEAKER_05I bet we get this perfectly.
SPEAKER_04What's that game you play where you have to guess all the answers into a thing? It's like a website? No, it's like a website you go to. Oh Family Feud. Sporacle? It's uh Family Feud. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. Sporacle, I think it's called. Yeah, it's where the two families feud, and there's a guy. No, we're not talking about seven.
SPEAKER_05All right, you guys got to do something. We have to get all ten. Yeah. All right. Do we get any strikes? Yeah, you get three. No, just just go and do that. The worst record in the past ten years. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Okay, I'm gonna do Carolina Panthers. That is correct.
SPEAKER_05All right, good.
SPEAKER_04That is number four. Okay. It's record of 61 and 104. Okay. Panda, your turn. There it gives you an idea of what how many losses. Yep. Raiders. Raiders. Raiders. They are eighth at 68 and 97. I would have expected higher than that. Yeah, Raiders.
SPEAKER_05Okay. I'm gonna go with the. And it's the last decade, so we're talking 2016 to 2020. Or I guess 2015 to 2025. Yeah, I would yeah. Okay. My turn. I'm going to go with the New York Jets.
SPEAKER_04Boo, and there we have the top one on the list boys.
SPEAKER_02Boom.
SPEAKER_04And what do you think their record was?
SPEAKER_05So I think I'll I'll guess this, and I think it will be 42 and I guess what would the math be? 118. Close. Close. Dan, you got a guess?
SPEAKER_04I will go with 45 and 115. Good guess. It was 49. So yeah, they averaged about five wins in a season. Tough. Tough. All right, Dan. You're up. New York Giants. There you go. There's the other one. So New York has been just god-awful at football over the last decade. They are the second worst team. Isn't that crazy?
SPEAKER_05I mean, how memorable it is to be a New York football fan.
SPEAKER_04With only the stadium. Only six more wins than the Jets, but actually have a tie in there as well. Okay. All right. So we have the Jets at one, the Giants at two, the Panthers at four, so you're missing three, and you have the Raiders at eight. The Cleveland Browns. There's your gap filler. There's your third Browns, which I thought would be the worst, but with all the quarterbacks they've had, I mean they had a playoff run with uh Baker. So you're going to be able to do that. And we've had some stout defenses. So they were at 59. Okay. Dolphins.
SPEAKER_05All right, Dan's out. Let me see if I can win this. Thank you for. He's the only one there. All right. I'm going to go with the bad. Okay. I was thinking of good teams. Yeah, think bad. Let me think of a bad team over the last 10 years. The Arizona Cardinals.
SPEAKER_04Ding ding ding. There you go. Number five at 61 losses. Or wins, excuse me. All right. So you have six, seven. We'll let you back in.
SPEAKER_05The winner of this gets a$50 gift card to TJ Maxx. Nice. I'll go. Commanders.
SPEAKER_04Or Clarendon. Correct. They all fall under that name. And they're nine. 68. Oh god. Okay. And then they're actually tied with the Raiders and wins and the seventh place team. Okay. How many do we have left? We have four? Three? One, two, three. Three left?
SPEAKER_05Okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Maybe four.
SPEAKER_05I'm gonna go with the New Orleans Saints. Nope.
SPEAKER_04Good guy. Um, so we got two strikes for or one strike for both.
SPEAKER_05All right. After this, we we got what we have one strike left. All right, let's work on this together.
SPEAKER_04Just think bad. Who are the worst? Who who is bad?
SPEAKER_05Titans.
SPEAKER_04Really? The Titans? We had Mike Verberal in that period. They weren't terrible with Mike. Give us the other. We lost. Okay, we lost. Alright, so the ones we're missing, we're missing the Jags. The Jag Offs? Yeah, I guess the Jags were more good.
SPEAKER_05The Jags they've been picking lately. And god awful.
SPEAKER_04Um, and then uh we have the Bengals at 10.
SPEAKER_05Which is interesting because they made a Super Bowl during that stretch. Yeah, but that's it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and then I think the one that I believe we missed was number five. And we did we not say the Cardinals? I said the Cardinals. Yep. So yeah, we're good. So we just Bears over the Cardinals. Oh, Bears, Bengals, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Interesting. These are the teams that are like pretty good right now because they forget. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Interesting. That was pretty good. That was a good question. Yeah, great question. That was a good question. Great question, I said.
SPEAKER_04And and then also we have a little sound off from Slayer. Not so much Slayer sound off. She wants just to make an announcement here, and she wanted to let everyone know that uh Jalen Learn Hurts is sharing a powerful message in a new children's book. You just came out of the new children's book. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. And it's titled Better Than a Touchdown. Yeah. So if you guys are looking for uh what is it? What's better than a touchdown? Apparently, whatever's whatever words are in this book. I can't wait to read it. Yeah. I'm not gonna ruin the I'm not gonna spoil it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_04But it's altered by Hertz and illustrated by Nakia Myers? Never heard of that person.
SPEAKER_05Okay. Huh. Yeah, he was on like Good Morning America or something. Yeah. One of like the big Who, uh Jalen? Jalen. Oh, nice. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. He did a good job. Yeah. He he kind of like transforms, like he's always like the serious stoic with the Eagles meeting you, but he turns into this like smiling, like nice guy with you know. It's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_04So you think do you think like AJ Brown's gonna be sitting on the silum this season when he's not traded reading this book?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it would be so funny if he just sits there and he's like I saw like a post there. He's like AJ could do the funniest thing ever. I can't wait to read it. Some other sound-offs on on our ex account too. I think fire him away. Matt Coord, the the legendary six well, legendary, it's I guess you could call him legendary, but he's the Sixers PA announcer. Yep. I think he's on like W what is it? Um one of the route, WMMR or something. I think he's on that guy. But he he's calling he's retiring. I think it was like 28 years or something. But he remember he would always be the guy like he with Iverson, he always 28 years. Ooh, Alan Iverson. Yeah, he was through that period. Yeah. Wow. Are you kidding me? Well, no, that's McGuinness. No, that's that's the radio guy. We're talking about the guy in the middle. This is the guy that announces them at the entrance. Like he says a six-foot guard from George. Oh, you said on radio, but you said WMMR. He's also that as his like day job, but then he's the people. So McGinnis is still around. That's his mic. Yeah, McGinnis. He does that. Are you kidding me? So so you so the guy who the guy that announces like Joel and AI. My favorite one of his was back when I mean this was this was the dark ages of the Sixers, and Staple used to buy tickets, and we would all go. And I remember we went to I mean, we're talking the Tony Roten days. Like Trust the Process. And the one guy who whenever he scored, he'd be like, uh Spencer Halls. He'd be like, Spencer Hawes. Is that the guy you're talking about? Hawes. The guy that goes, Spencer Hawes. That's it. Where'd he go to college? Washington. That's real. Wow. Spencer Hawes. Slayer used to hang out with Spencer Hawes. Like really? Like they were mutual friends. Okay. Yeah, like they were in. Okay. No, the guy ever should be like me and my friends went out with Spencer. Like it was like mutual friends. Isn't that a great isn't that such a good basketball name, Spencer Hawes? I feel like that fits everything. Like a good basketball name has three syllables and two in the first and then one in the back. Yeah. Like Michael Jordan. Like well. Do you remember Isaiah Cannon during that time? I mean, he was like a no-name guy. I mean, I every time he would hit a three, they would say How did it go? It's like Cannonball. It's like everything. Yeah, it was tough. Or any of like Sixers process fans. Stauskis, Nick Scous. Yeah, it was tough. Sauce Castillo is his name. I I I choose to forget most of it. So he's retiring, he's hanging it up. That's a shame. Yeah. Dan, are you going to apply for the job? No. No. I already. Yeah, I lived the Sixers life. I've moved on. But uh Yeah, as a former Sixers employee, you can say, yeah, that that's 80 times. I'm like I'm thankful. It sounds like it. And then the other thing Slayer said was Sound it off. Yeah, with with Reed leaving him and Cooper had I think they had like a podcast, The Exciting Lights. Yeah, we shouldn't really publicize our our competitors, but that's fine. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So that'll be yeah. Yeah. So they they're moving on. I wish them the best of luck with their up and coming podcast. We could teach him a thing or two. I don't know. Yeah. Yeah, like I think they I think they're keeping the podcast, is what I last heard. I think I'm pretty sure you'll have to check that boy, but I think it was like read read. It's gonna still do it with it.
SPEAKER_04Oh wow, okay. Cooper. Nice. That's nice. I mean, usually when players kind of move around. Like Paul, what's it called? Podcast P kept his when he went from the Clippers to the Sixers, and then he got injured and then he had to like take a hiatus. Yeah, he's trouble. Yeah, that's a tough situation.
SPEAKER_05We're not getting there. We're not talking about that. I don't think so. Yeah, yeah. But uh but yeah, I think that's a good thing.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, is there anything else we appreciate on your end, Stafford? So I guess yeah, we're at that time in the the podcast. A couple interesting factoids. Okay, so we talked about Jordan Davis a little bit, right? And how he got that really nice contract. Well, it all comes down to him being on the field. And over the last three seasons prior to that, he was on the field no more than like 45% of the time. But this past season, he got it all the way up to 61% of the time. So that is what's key for Jordan is his ability to stay on the field and play most of the downs on a defense. Because as a rotational player, he's not that talented. But when he's on the field consistently, that's where he earns the big money. And I think that's where we were a little worried about in the first three years like, is this guy ever gonna have the motive to be on the field the whole game? And I think finally he took his health into consideration, got some weight loss, and played extremely well. So let's let's hope he stays that way. Other piece cinnamon toast crunch. We're talking about mascot. Yep, here we go. It's the baker's name is Chef Wendell, right? Chef Wendell. Wendell. Yeah, and he appeared in that Dan in 1987. And he came out of the street. Yeah, and but he retired in 2009. So he is no longer the room. Just like you, Dan.
SPEAKER_05He's he's got the same career. Yeah, wow. He probably became a podcaster. I I would hope so. Yeah. Dude, a serial mascot podcast would be outstanding there. Yeah. We're gonna run out of material eventually. So why did he retire in 09? Was it like questionable? Like, was he in the Epstein files or something? We should be careful. Could have been. He probably just listened to like Bing Crosby every day.
SPEAKER_04I mean, he put his 20 plus years in, you know. It's it's sort of like that.
SPEAKER_05Do you think it's hard work being a mascot?
SPEAKER_04It's hard work being a chef. I know that. Well, chef's hard work, right, Dan? Yeah. This guy's in the kitchen all morning cooking up some cinnamon toast as a cereal.
SPEAKER_05And and that's probably do you think that's an oat-based, rice-based, or uh rice-based or I think it's uh I think it's rice. Yeah, I think that's a rice.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, sugar all over us, you can't tell.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_04I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Chef Wendell.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Chef Wendell. Um is he is he still around? Like, is he alive? Probably not. So you were he was he was started working in 87.
SPEAKER_05He was how old was he in 87?
SPEAKER_04He was only 20. He was always graying, right?
SPEAKER_05He was always like gray and he was like, Yeah, maybe he didn't even start it later on. He was not the most slim fitting too. Like he was in the husky section of TJ.
SPEAKER_04And he probably ate cinnamon toast crunch as he made it, so he probably died, like diabetes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, but I isn't cinnamon good for you?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, not the sugar.
SPEAKER_05Cinnamon sugar. Oh, okay. I see. Yeah. Yeah. So you think he was a diabetic or something going on for that? All right, next move. Rest in peace.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So we talked a little bit about Reek Wollen, a couple nicknames of his. Yep. Reek the Freak. Yep. Avatar. Yeah, those are the two ones. His nickname's just Avatar. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Like from the film Avatar? Yeah. You see those things. You see those blue things? What's his name? James Hammer Cameron?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. They think, you know, he's probably one of those blue things. They think he he's visually in crazy locations.
SPEAKER_05Do you think Tariq Wollen enjoyed the film Avatar? No, absolutely. Did you enjoy the film Avatar? No, I didn't like it. I watched the film Avatar. I have not. Oh. Well, there you go. You know what? That's a lie. I I've definitely dipped my toes in the water, but I haven't seen the whole thing. That's the one where it's the movie where it's it's uh Pocahontas, but they have but it's gasoline that they're fighting for, and then they put their braids inside like the dragon's back, and then they can file. Yeah, that's it, exactly. That's it. That's that's all we need to know. And our our cornerback number two is is supposed to be like one of those? Yes. Oh, because he what he because he's tall and athletic.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and and also in combination of his freakish, you know, you know, physicality, he also has a very high temper like CJ. How fast do you think a Navi runs a 40 yard?
SPEAKER_05I probably fast, probably as fast as C. Do you think they time him in 40 yards? Like what's the distance? I mean they got longer strides, probably.
SPEAKER_04What planet are they from? I do I don't know. I didn't I just watched it visually.
SPEAKER_05You're the one who dropped the avatar thing.
SPEAKER_04I know I didn't actually enjoy the movie. Remember anything. Did you see the movie? Yeah, I saw it with my eyes. I didn't actually remember anything about it. You saw it with my notes. Well, this guy, all right? So I think he's he's being paid$15 million in the year, which is more than just Avatar made more than$15 million in the box office. I'll let you know that. It was considered a bust for what how much they put into the movie. That was a huge disappointment. So maybe we should have a lot of money. But that's I'm hoping he doesn't. I'm hoping he doesn't. Yeah. So we should go with Freaks. Yeah. Freak the freak. But he's getting paid$15 million, which is like not nothing. It's it's an actual starter type money, but with how he's been trending downward over the last few years, it's a little concerning.
SPEAKER_05So 15 with incentives. Yeah, I think it's 12.
SPEAKER_04But it's 12 guaranteed, which is that's a big deal. And I think one of the things you said earlier was his 2023 season. If we got that, no, we want his 22 season. That's the year he was a pro bowler and he was also. And he's also a rookie of the year candidate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. And one interesting thing, Clinton Hurt was his D coordinator there. There you go. He's our D-line coach. And associate. That's good to know. Yeah, you're right.
SPEAKER_04One other really interesting thing. So I like guys with a little hot head to him. I think that brings good energy to the locker room. Yeah. He led the league last year in taunting penalties. By any point, CJGJ. To add to that, not only was it the most by a player, it was more than any team on their team combined. Like all their players combined on a team. So he literally had more penalties than any single team. That's gonna serve us well.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we want to defense to get a lot of rats. I mean, Adore Jackson, like it's gotta be. You hope it's an upgrade, right? I mean that's yeah. I mean, well, so you know, is it is it worth what's how many, how many uh taunting penalties did he have last year? What? Three. Uh three. Yeah. That's a lot. But one was I think in the NFC championship. And one was almost in the super.
SPEAKER_04I think Ross Stucker talked about it on the radio. He talked about how he was there at the game for that. And and when he went, he was drawing with the guy. Like the I think it was Puka. It was yeah, it was. He was drawing with Puka. And then he then he started to start talking to the players on the sideline, and the ref's like, all right, chill, chill, you're done. And he's like, you know what? I ain't chilling. He literally walked down the entire sideline and talked to every like single player on the sideline. He was just talking to people. Just put them all on the show. Then he got in the face of Stafford and got like really, really into it. And then the the ref's like, Are you kidding me? Like, I can't not give you a flag. It's so obvious. I gotta throw a flag on him. Do you think he and Jalen Carter are gonna have like personal foul off this year? Oh, yeah. I'm looking forward to that. Seattle was happy when he left, actually. I mean, as much as a freak player he is, he is a head case and they think that he makes some bone-headed mistake. So it sounds like a great signing for us. But uh yeah, well, we'll see. It's a it's a how we move in the sense that it's a high risk, high reward. If he comes in and he plays well, I mean, he was on a deal last year as like a contract, right? He didn't play great. So you're hoping that this year is different. And I'm hoping maybe the defensive coordinator has some part to it. So we'll see. He's not a great man cover guy, he's better in in zone coverages because he's got well a ton of length. So we'll we'll see. Maybe our defensive coordinator here can can unlock him a little bit.
SPEAKER_05And I'm assuming the Avatar movie had like a happy ending, much like Reek Woolens Career with the Birds is gonna.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, let's hope. Let's hope it's and let's because if he locks down that second corner roll next to Quinton, and then you have what's his name? Yeah, Gene there.
SPEAKER_05That is a really good second. And Michael Carter. Yeah, you might not need to Carter will play safe. You might not need a crazy end. He probably will be C B too. Like he's probably a starter. Yeah. But yeah, that's all I got. Yeah, all right. Well, that's that's very exciting, Dan. I you know, I think we really have to acknowledge how special this time of year is. It's a real fun time. You know, maybe the NFL, yeah. I mean, I just hear it. I I can hear the March Madness creeping into our into the background. Yeah. And how are you feeling about the games, the buzzer beaters, and who I let me before the bracket even comes out, who's gonna win the March Madness tournament? Arizona. Arizona Wildcats, but I don't know. Onions! From Dan Nugent. Uh, that's a beautiful thing. Um, for the Seth Podcast, I am your host, Dr. Tat. And I'm Panda Dan. Step boy. And uh, let's get ready for one of the most special times of the year, folks. March Madness. What a time to be alive. Go, birds. Go R.I.P. Chef Wendell, and go go to your local key day, Matt.
