I wish I knew what we were doing. No, I was just trying to fit it in. I was working it out. No, I like it. Let's do it. Let's keep it. Let's keep it. Let's keep it. I love that song because that's what we sang with you right before you got me! We sang that all day. So cute.
SPEAKER_02But right outside when we were like. That probably still to say. Guys, if you haven't guessed already, we're talking about weddings. Yes. And we're so excited. So excited.
SPEAKER_01Because it was like the best days ever. Absolutely. All of it. Like the lead up, like the days, like the planning, all of it is just so cute.
SPEAKER_02So we're gonna like deep delve. We're also gonna go into American weddings. Yes. Also, because um, well, technically, Clarie had an American wedding, but she had I don't I would say with yours, actually, I was thinking this the other day. You had um no, what it's not the word I was looking for. It's like you had the chaser, you had like the pre-wedding before the big bash that will come at some point. Yeah, yeah. Do you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01Like you had the beautiful little taster. Yeah, it's like a tasting platter.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and you had a reboard. But also, like we're gonna go into that. I had the I had the pretty big Shabbat. Yeah, the big wedding. So, like, there's like a beautiful difference between Clara and I that we can both mutually talk about. Um, and then we're gonna talk about American weddings versus UK weddings. Yeah. Um, also talking about um planning just what's the right etiquette and um Christ, the different traditions in America versus here.
SPEAKER_01Like and like cost of things too is crazy different. And changed a lot over the last couple of years, I think. Yeah. Just speaking to people that got married a while ago versus now, like our parents. Like it's very different, different like ball game now. So we'll get we'll get into it.
SPEAKER_02First off, I didn't even say for the group um because I was meant to say it for you all last week. Yeah, but John got his visa.
SPEAKER_00John got his visa. I was gonna ask, like, what's your take? Because if you don't say this, he got his visa.
SPEAKER_02That's my take. He got his visa. Woo! He got it on the fifth, he got it on the 5th of March, and he got it um uh on the fifth week of our application, which was stunning because it was a nice surprise. And you best believe I cried at work with um my boss. Oh my god. She balled her eyes out and uh Lorraine. So Sarah and Lorraine both cried.
SPEAKER_01I want to say, like, I don't know how you how you got it. What was the like what was the was it a phone call? No, the lawyer.
SPEAKER_02The lawyer sent the email through and was like, dear both. And then obviously you're not I just read her name, that's all I read, and I click it, and she goes, Congratulations. Uh John's visa has been granted. I didn't read anything else. Nope, that's it. Nothing else. Started crying. Um, but like, and also we were saying this the other day. The f the feeling in my chest, which I know you have, yeah, went it was like an immediate release. I've never. But I've never, I don't think I've experienced that um that intensely before.
SPEAKER_01That like type of feeling just instantly going away. Like it feels like a weight gone.
SPEAKER_02And I've never I know we all talk about weight being lifted, but you feel a gradual weight. This was like gone completely. Yeah. Um and I ran down, I was like, Have you seen your emails? And he was like, No, and I was like, You got your meals. And then I didn't know. Yeah, I did. It was like silent on the other end of the phone. He was like, What? And then it was like pure joy and like um like elation. And then uh, and then uh we were like scroll down and we figured out he's here till September 2028 before we do the next one. So Woo!
SPEAKER_01Woo! Woo! It's okay, you can forget about it for a long while.
SPEAKER_02And also September I'm kinda a long while, because you forget that it's not like to the date like of uh March. It's like to you because you get half of it, don't you, two and a half? Two and a half, yeah. So Danny's next, please, ladies and gentlemen. But yeah, we're very happy. We're very happy.
SPEAKER_01No, but it's all good, you know, if it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen for you. Like hopefully it'll happen for us. It's all good stuff. Like it is. It's uh it's a good thing. It's a good thing. Like it's only only up from here, baby. It is. I'm I'm so excited.
SPEAKER_02And it's a good one to have on the wedding, the wedding app actually.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, exactly. On the wedding episode.
SPEAKER_01What's your take, Pookie Bear? Um, my take this week is um it was gonna be about um your visa because I think we should still spread that joy. Um, but it could be our jumpers because look, we're in matching, if you can see. A little past this unreal, but like maybe please model it for us. Look at it. Yes, you can see. Move over to your right a little bit, please. There we go. Yeah, amazing. On the back, it says, I love you in book quotes. Um, so it's lots and lots of different, like, gorgeous, gorgeous quotes from mostly fantasy books as well. And a fucking court of a court of wings and ruins on there, guys.
SPEAKER_02And he's like giving his spiel, mother of God.
SPEAKER_00Like a Reese quote is on there, bruh. A Reese quote is there, and Fourth Wings on there, all of it's on there. And the front simply just says love doth dot forth.
SPEAKER_02Oh, so we didn't fully talk about this and it could technically be a take, but uh Sarah J. Masco and call her daddy mother of God.
SPEAKER_01I was hoping we would be able to talk about this because I'm so stressed out. I'm so listening, I'm excited. Um yeah, but it's hard because I haven't watched anything, I haven't read any of that.
SPEAKER_02But she doesn't talk about Throne of Glass until the latter half. Yeah. So I just avoided all the the second section where she starts doing rapidly.
SPEAKER_01I've been like listening and then being like, she talks about Nestor.
SPEAKER_02She talks about and then she comes out and she's like oh I think she's like And then do you know when she was like up in the mountain, she's out at a period and she's like crying up there and she wrote that for Nesta? Get the f out of here and then she's going to therapy and Nestor's going to therapy. Guys, just do your time, do your time.
SPEAKER_01So so good. And that episode is so good. I just love how honest she is, and I love how like the bit when she was like, I just don't understand why women feeling joy is just so hated. Like I don't understand.
SPEAKER_02Like I said, and when she goes and it annoys the fuck out of me. And I'm like, say it louder for the men at the back. Like the amount of like stick we get about like writing these books, I think, is realised wrong with our friendship group, it's kind of slowed down a bit because they're realizing, oh, these women are really happy about it. Yeah, we can't really bash. No. So and if they do, they get the backlash of girls being like, What's your rob what's your problem with it? Yeah. How is it affecting your everyday? Exactly. Well, because we're talking about something we care about. Yeah. Well, you care about you care about Court of Duty. So do I, but like you care about Court of Duty, but like football team.
SPEAKER_01You don't see me bashing you. You also love a football team, but you know what I mean? But like really, people are very passionate about things that they love, and that should that's the way life is. You like Fortnite. I don't like Fortnite.
SPEAKER_02You don't see me being like fuck Fortnite.
SPEAKER_01Fortnite is stupid. David. What do you mean? Like, no, it don't give me joy. It happens a lot to girls, and it like annoying target shit. Yeah. Of course it is. But yeah, she she said it and she knows it, and like it's not gonna stop her from writing guitar six and seven. I'm so excited! October and January. Two! Two! I love it. Love, baby, L-O-V-E.
SPEAKER_02We love you, Sarah. We love you. Okay. Yes. Moving on. Weddings.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02I know we love. First off, just before we go in, did you watch the end of Bridgetton? I did. Did you see in the credit scene? Because I fucking missed all of that. Wait, what? Oh, whoa. We we we did an Avengers. Oh yeah, John. There was an Avengers we missed, you know, like Avengers ending credit. Have you seen it? I did, yeah. Bitch, I hate it.
SPEAKER_01I know. But the credit we must have you must have gone boom. No, I think we were twelling.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know we just kind of like topped off. They get married. It's beautiful. We missed it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. They do. And it was a whole wedding scene at the end with Jay Bay as well. So cute. He's buried in two. When you get back, watch it later. Great season. Love that season. I loved it. Flawless.
SPEAKER_02Also, it's a little like you like a little fairy tale you do.
SPEAKER_01So it was beautifully done. It was, and it was so good. But yeah, Bridgeton. That I've this is probably up there. I really liked it. Oh. And the way it ended was so good. Because I thought it was going to be. Oh, it's just a Cinderella story.
SPEAKER_02I wasn't really excited to do it. Just a moment.
SPEAKER_01But no, it's not fully. The bath scene.
SPEAKER_02We'll go into that later. Moving on, cutting down, cutting down. So um obviously, Chloe, most of the podcast world of transatlantic takes knows that you had your wedding in Boston in City Hall. And you've told you spoken us, you've told us a lot about that. Yeah. You've told us about some of the hardships that you had to go through and some of the most beautiful things ever, deciding that both of you are just gonna go and do it. Yes. And um you picked out your dresses at home because your mum brought them to the house, didn't she? And there was like loads you could choose from. So you basically had to say yes to the dress, which we both said we both love. Yes. In your home. Yes. Picked out one of those dresses. So much fun. And we brought a veil.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I did. And let me I'll go I'll go through it. So like yeah. Obviously, we both had very different weddings to our American guys. Sorry, maybe I'm just struggling. She hit the mic and she tried to drink her straw when the cap was too long. This was the whole moment. I couldn't even finish my sentence. I had to walk. Thank you very much. I'm fucking sorry. You take your water, honey.
SPEAKER_03I'm so sorry. Are you safe now?
SPEAKER_01I'm safe, I'm safe, I'm safe. Yeah, go ahead. Yeah, so we both are very different weddings. Um, both amazing, amazing times. But yeah, the planning is obviously very, very different. Um, so for mine, I planned it in quite a short amount of time. So it was like two months, maybe because it literally is booking a date with a courthouse. Yeah, wow. Um is that hard? No, it's like just making sure that there's a date free. So like you just you literally just go online. It's like booking the appointment for the visa, like the BRP. It's just like you just like look at the times available and you go, I want that one. What time did you pick? Uh 11 uh 15, I think, or 11.10. Um, and then we so we booked that. So that is essentially when you've booked that, you've booked your wedding, really, because like that includes like your ceremony, like your marriage certificate. Yeah. Um, and then we had to go and get a marriage license. Um, it's only you're only meant to do it 24 hours before, but we did it like a week before. Great. Um, so essentially once you've booked that date and you know you're you know made sure that you are allowed to like marry each other and all that kind of stuff, um, you um you pay 50 quid. So it's$50 for that um slot. Yeah. Um no,$50 was for the marriage license and certificate. And then it was like an extra$25 for like the ceremony. So it was$75 for the whole day, essentially, for like uh the ceremony and all that, which was really funny. So we did that, and then when we had our date planned, I already had like flights to go to Massachusetts because we were going to another wedding um of Dan's friend in Texas. So we went like end of August to You were already married at that point. No, sorry. So we were we were going, so we went, we flew to Tech, we flew to um Boston and then flew to Texas. Right. And then had that wedding. It was like late late late August, early September, and then we'd booked ours for the 9th of September. So we had like a little bit of a time before. So yeah, before way before. When we booked it back in say July, I want to say, it wasn't that long before. Um I then was like, I don't know what I'm gonna do. Like I'm obviously gonna I want to wear a dress, but it's not gonna be like my big dress. So like we me and my mum were like chatting and she was like, let me let me handle it. Oh, and so I went on to like ASOS and quiz and like all those like quiz will show up for you. Oh yeah, quiz did show up. Quiz is amazing, and I just put a lot of like dresses that I liked in a basket, and then my mum like ordered them. Oh my god. And then they all arrived at the house, and then my mom set up like a rail in my living room. She did like all like banners, and we had like the say yes the dress, like paddles. Like my cousin Amy, like made, like she's got an amazing eye craft business. It's called Taffy Crafts, and she made like little like plastic um paddles that said like say yes the dress, or like, ew no, like ew, David, or like the like hell yeah, and all that kind of stuff. And so we made all them. We had like an afternoon tea, and then I invited like so not many people knew at this point, so it was literally just like my family, and then my cousin Amy and um my mom's best friend Callie, who's like my second mum. Yeah, yeah. So that was like the close-contained like little bit of it. Um, so we oh my nan, my nan, my nan, my granddad as well. So we had like a little CS the Jess party in my garden. It was like the hottest day of the year, it was like the worst day to do it, but it was fun. And so I would then they were all in my garden and like we had like little canopy things, so we like had all the tea and stuff outside, little cocktails, and then we I would go inside and try on a dress, and then I would come out, and then everyone would be like, Oh, I like this one. And then I'm gonna do it. Was there one they like really didn't like? Oh, loads of them. I didn't like most of them. There was only like two or three that I was like, oh, oh, that's good. Um but some of them I was a lot of them looked like hen party dresses because like if you're buying off ASOS, there aren't many, like there aren't many wedding dresses on ASOS. Um so I and I wanted something in between. I didn't want like a big dress. Of course. So we um I would do that back and forth, and then there was like two dresses that like when I came out, everyone was like, Oh, oh wow.
SPEAKER_02I've seen the other one too. That was funny.
SPEAKER_01So we um after like you know, I went through them all, I went back in and then like jacked myself up with like the veil and like the little belt and like all that the shoes and all that kind of stuff, and then I came back out in both dresses, okay, and then eventually the dress I picked was the one that got the most like the one the one that felt most like me, because the other one also needed a lot of like alteration. It was the long one, wasn't it? Yeah, it was long, it was like satin, it was such a beautiful dress, and it was just like simple like spaghetti straps and then just like across here. So it was it cowl neck or was it straight? No one remembered it. It was like very like straight across, and then it had like little spaghetti straps, which was I like them, but I don't I don't know. I just felt like I needed a lot of alterations because it was too long. The other one was corseted as well, which is it was it was so good.
SPEAKER_02What I don't like is the bone corsets that are in at the moment where you can see through and you can see the corset structure. Yeah, yeah, no. That don't work.
SPEAKER_01Yours was mine was like corset detail, so it wasn't a real corset, but it was like full. Um but yes, the one I chose. And you felt very sturdy in it too. I remember like grabbing your waist and being like, oh shit, so it's like it fit perfectly, and that's why I went for that one in the end. Because it was literally so the one I went for was like tool skirt, sparkly, like ivory. And then it had white would look weird on me. Um and then I had like the corset bone structure, and then it was like kind of sweetheart, neckline, and then like thicker straps. And it fit me like a glove. And what I kept thinking was I have to walk around Boston in this all day. So if I was wearing the other dress, and I would, I would, I would feel so conscious in the other dress. Whereas this one, I was like, this just feels like a bit of me. Yeah. So I got that, and then my my cousin like gave me like her like shoes and like head, like a headpiece from her wedding. So it was like something borrowed, like it was such a a pooling together of so it was a really cute moment, and it was such a like unique style of choosing a dress. And then we my parents booked their flights, we went over, I did the Texas wedding, which we will talk about as well later on, and then we had our so we chose our date because it was 9-9-2-2. So nine nine. Nine nine? Because we were watching Brooklyn 9-9 at the time, and also it was my grandma um who passed away's birthday. Stunning. So it was a great, like everything, it was a Friday, Pizza Pizza Friday, like it all just worked, yeah. Worked in. So we chose that day. Um, so we had that date, and then we um did the ceremony. So, courthouse wedding, literally, you turn up at your time. We took an Uber, we went to a hotel and did like first looking.
SPEAKER_02So we need to go into this before we go on onto whatever the fuck I'm gonna be speaking about. There is a video, right? You share it whenever you're ready. But there's some things that I even say the world doesn't need to see. I saw it. Yes, I saw it. I care that I saw it. There is a video. Um, Clara's like, Do you want to see my first lift? I said, Yes, I do. And it's where did you tap him on the shoulder? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So we what was meant to happen was we were meant to both tune around the same time, but Dan was in his own world. It was as perfect.
SPEAKER_02So I was like, okay, I'm gonna go over and tap him on the shoulder, and then he turns around and they both just like stare at each other in complete awe. Mother of God, it was the cutest thing ever. Like it was because I watched, and then I cried, remember I cried, and I have got no control of that. But I was actually like, this is so cute, because Dan was just staring at you, and you were staring at him, and I was just like, oh, like through it all, it was just so perfect, and it looks, it makes me cry every time. It was like stunning. And it was like the best in my head. I don't care what anyone says, it was the best like um first look I've ever seen.
SPEAKER_01Oh, thanks, it made my heart that makes me so happy because I'm typically like against first looks, yeah, but it's like you know, but this is such a unique situation that I was like, it's fine because we also had to travel to the venue together.
SPEAKER_02So you got it in the car, like hey, yeah, yeah, that wouldn't have worked, and it was like stunning, and the whole filming of it is just beautiful. And I like I'm like hitting the mic in the beautiful.
SPEAKER_01I love it. But no, that was it was really cute. Thanks for saying that, baby. No, it was really sweet, and it was like a nice like little personal moment, yeah. Because then we just got on an Uber and went to um the city and got for our went for our appointment, and there's literally like photos of us as well, just like by like a booth. So, like, you know, like with like the glass and the someone's behind them. We just like literally signing our like marriage to fall.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god!
SPEAKER_01And then we sign all the paperwork and then we like literally wait in a corridor.
SPEAKER_02And our ceremony was in a corridor, like it was literally in like a reminds me of sex in the city, um, big and have you seen this in the movie? Uh big big and carries are literally like in there. So you you should actually watch that. I should watch it, but probably the similar. Yeah, no, it's so it sounds it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and it's so funny because like the the video is like like someone's coming through a fire escape, like a fire exit, and it's like and then someone's walking past us. We are like crying into each other, like saying our vows. And I think the person doing the um the wedding, like the officiant, was very much like, oh, these they're like in love, love, like they actually want to make this a bigger deal. Because I think a lot of people go in there and just like, yep, that done. Like it feels like a bit of a like a fast food. So he made effort for you. Yeah, she was so yeah, she was so gorgeous. I think she realized halfway through, and like she was like playing into like the like you know, she was doing the longer version chatting to us and like being like, Oh, like these things, they were so beautiful, and like Dan was crying, you were crying. I was crying, we both cried.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god, I can't wait to watch this big time. I know. I can show you, I've got a video, I'll show you later.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, yes, it was cute. So then that like literally was like 10-15 minutes, and then we um had like a little mini dance in the hallway, and then we literally walked outside, and then we just had photos. We went to Boston Commons, it was like gorgeous park, and we just had photos in the park. There was like this um Busker guy, I've probably told you about this before, but there was this Busker guy that saw us walking down and he started playing like comes the bride and whatever. And then he started playing perfect, Ed Sheeran, and so we had like our like little first dance in the park. Oh my god. It was really it was very like spontaneous and like everything. And it was like a really nice day, it was 22 degrees, it was everything was just perfect. Thank you, boss. So it was really good. So then we went for food and then we had like drinks in like a pub afterwards. Oh my god. Very low-key, but very doesn't matter, yeah. It was like such a special, like very unique day. And I'm very grateful that we made it work, and like, yeah, cost-wise quite low because we hey we didn't like the ceremony, like I said, it was like$75 uh altogether. And then obviously I paid for like my dress and your rings. Obviously, like for flights. Like we have the flights are expensive, yeah. Um, but yeah, different things. So um, yeah, so that was essentially the core house, the courthouse vibe, and it is literally how you imagine it to be. It's like you know, in one of those like little windows, being like, I want to get married today, and they're like, okay.
SPEAKER_02Carrie and Vig literally so much right now, that's so cute.
SPEAKER_01But if you think about my prep compared to your prep, I don't know if I want to share. No, you watch No, you don't have to share like money-wise, but you just like as in like how much you had to do compared. So Maeve had fairy tale Irish wedding, which like Mave and John's wedding was one of the like the most special. If I think it was the most special wedding I've ever been to. Don't I'm gonna. No, but it genuinely was, and it's like such it was such a magical day. And not just a magical day, the time, the weekend, the lead up. You were like one of the most calm like rides that I've ever probably, yeah, the most calm person. Because obviously you were doing both of you were doing so much to prep, but you had 10 months to do it. Yeah, and like you decided like when you got engaged, like what do you break? Yeah, we'll take it. Maybe 2026. No, it was like 2025, we're gonna make it happen. I know that was kind of last minute, so it was. Tell tell us.
SPEAKER_02Well, I was kind of glad because I originally we got we got engaged, and then my auntie and my mum were like Island, if you thought. And I was like, Yeah, I mean, John would be definitely downstream in Ireland, there's no way we're doing it in America based off cost. Um, and also all of our friends are here mainly, and it would just mean loads of them wouldn't be able to come because it'd be flights and how expensive it would be. Um, and so my auntie was like, Look into these places. So I looked into these and I was like, oh, that'll be cute for next year, you know, like whatever.
SPEAKER_03And then um she was like, Hey, our um second, our cousin, so my second cousin's fella owns this, and we were like, Ha, hm, well, yes, what could happen there that could maybe help us a lot? You know that.
SPEAKER_02So we got uh we looked at Markra's Hotel in Kalani, highly recommend. It's stunning, it's one of the most beautiful hotels ever. Stunning. And um we went in and we were like, oh, yeah. We saw like two rooms and the one we got married in, yeah, or the one we chose, that you get that whole building. So I was like, Thoughts. And we were in the car park, and I remember me and John look at each other and being like, Yeah, yeah, screw it. I was like, So we're getting married in September. So we're getting married in September. And we're like, holy shit, and everyone was already there, like everyone was already in it, ready to go. Um so I mean that was it was crazy. There was also an element as well that wouldn't matter, but we would mean John's visa ran out in February, so he would have to change to a spousal visa, which I know doesn't cost that much, but it would just be like an extra third visa on top of already another visa. So we were like, we could do it, that's fine, there's no rush. But also, if we're like married, it wouldn't really, it was just one visa at the end, wouldn't be that much of a big deal. Um, so yeah, I planned muckris and I had uh I had to figure out my bridesmaids, which was that that's hard. That that was hard. I think in my head originally I had eight. And my mom was like you just want everyone. You want everyone. My mum was like, get a grip. And I was like, okay, fine. So I had to bring eight down to five. That was uncomfy, but like I kind of did it tactically of like everyone came from a different part of my like child. Childhood, teenhood, 20 hood, you know, so it kind of worked, and I had a like justification. All the girls were amazing anyway. Like all the girls who I even like in our big circle, there was no bullshit. It was just like everyone was like, of course, like no worries. Um organized my bridesmaids, uh, told them all in February. I told you. She cried.
SPEAKER_00I was such, I like love that.
SPEAKER_01You genuinely surprised me, too. No, no, I have a Galantine's gift. I didn't think I was gonna. Yeah, it's a gift. Like, I have a Galantine's gift. I was like, I have your birthday gift. Like, what do you mean? You're not giving me a gift, it's your birthday. What are you talking about?
SPEAKER_02I'm just so I thought everyone would clock because I got them all boxes and like wrapped it in orange because I'd said before, like, my bridesmaids will be in a burnt orange. Like, I've always loved burnt orange, it's just always gonna be the case, and especially if it was in September, it's gonna totally be burnt orange. Um, so I handed all these things out and you burst into tears. Every single one, but Isabella knew the minute I got engaged that she was ready to go. Yeah, but everyone else was like crying, um, which was absolutely wholesome. And uh, I loved every minute of doing that, so that was really cute. And then came my wedding dress fittings. That was insane. Um, because you're very nervous going into that, and you're not you're not supposed to know what that's supposed to feel like. So I was very nervous and I went to Betty McCool's, shout out, Amy, mother of God, I love you. Betty McCool outlet, highly recommend. She has off the peg, um, which means like like they're cheaper and you can just buy that one and get that altered. So if it fits, it doesn't matter. And then you have like any other range of dresses. So I tried on that day six dresses. My mum was there, Isabella was running late. Fucking typical. Um and so I tried on six dresses, and the second one was the dress. Oh my god. The second one and the fifth one. Yeah. So I had to weigh up, they're very, very different. Like the second one looked like my mother's back in the day, and this is the second one, the first one. Sorry, the second one was the one I chose. Yeah. So I weighed that up. Then I went to another one in Barnet. Yeah. Tried it on there, didn't have a great experience in that one. Not like due to the women, just the dresses weren't great. And I was like, I'm I think I just loved Betty McCool so much. And she made me about it. Because she just said to me, She was like, Worst thing that's gonna happen today, you don't like something, take it off. And I was like, Oh, you just relieved loads of it. And the worst part was as well, like you were I arrived in like um strapless underwear, and she was like, Yeah, take it off. And I was like, why? And she goes, Maeve, every single dress has padding. And I was like, So my little flat chest I was like, oh my god, there's there's padding, like so I put it on and I was like, Oh my god. So then we went to like they're all like courted in little tiny pads, so it's great. It was like great for me. Great for you, yeah. Yeah, and so like like clamped me and had all the clamps on all this shit anyway. So then I went back to her again because I was like, hey, I like the same day. So I tried on 12 dresses in one day. Wow. Um, and then I went back to her and I was like, it's between these two. She goes, May it get back to me. You should know the off the peg one though. So one of them was off the peg. She was like, if that goes, that goes. There's not another one of its kind. I was like, Oh god. So I went back to her three days later, and then this is such a long weird story, but I went back to her three days later and I tried them both on, and I was like, Okay, I think it's this one. Because what she said, which was so smart, she turned to me and my mum and she was like, If because Isabella already knew which one she loved, everyone knew which one they loved, right? But my mum and me were really like between the one that looked like hers and which one that looked like you know was mine. Um but everyone loved it because what we kept calling it is um we kept calling it the Kate dress.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because when I when Kate Middleton came out, love Kate, got a lot of time for her. She has quite similar broad shoulders to me. So when she came out in her Alexander McQueen dress, I was like, I love that dress so much. I remember being like, I love that dress. So when I came out, I was like, oh, it looks like Kate, and she was like, oh, and so she changed it to Kate Online or something. Like we just love her. She's great. I still text her. Um and anyway, so I like got it all, put it all on, and then she goes, hear me out. If you could get both, and then we started laughing. We're like, Yeah, we will, bitch. And then she was like, if you get both, which one would you want to be your ceremony dress? And which one would you want to be your party dress? And I literally was like, This is my ceremony dress, and she goes, That's your wedding dress. Oh thank God. And I went, why? She goes, It's the first one John sees you in. And I was like, Yeah, and it was like one of those like Yeah. And then she put the veil on me, and then I was like, Yeah, this is happening. Oh my god. Yeah. So no, very different, but it was like stunning, and like my mum bought my dress because it was something that I know they want to do. Your mum bought yours, I assume. Yeah, it's just something that you also want to do, and it was beautiful. So yeah, then there came like shit months of uh load and load of prep. Yes, and uh, obviously you had to get married in a Catholic church. John is a Protestant, so you know. Uh so I had to go to a marriage course because you can't get married in a Catholic church without going to a marriage course, which guys, another day, like another day. If you want to go into relationship shit, and maybe when John's in the building, we can go over that. We laughed our heads off when we went there, um, but also because we couldn't do it online because they were all taken. Yeah. Um, but we had to spend five hours with other couples talking about um marriage, and uh, they were really against like divorce, the big D word, never meant you know, can't be how do you work your way out of arguments? It was really fascinating. So we left kind of going, well, that's fascinating. And then there was like a second half, we were like, lost us here now. You had it from the beginning. Um, because it was amazing, you know, they go out of their way to do it. Yeah. So we had our licence fee, went to the church, and the priest was like, You want to get married? Yes, I do. Yeah, and it's like, okay, yeah, so you want to get married to the Catholic Church, we'll send your forms off to the bishop. Oh my god. And then the bishop will give it to you. Um Killani Cathedral. And I was like, okay, wow, that's the bishop. It's just a load to do. Like, if you guys, if you are thinking about getting married to the Catholic Church, there's a lot to it. Yeah. It's not as simple as being like, I'm gonna get married in the Catholic Church. And then I go and do it, yeah. And I had to find my own priest because I wasn't part of the parish in things. So I had to find my own priest. We all know him, we all loved him.
SPEAKER_00I love him. He was so cool.
SPEAKER_02Gee, we love you so much. And he was he made my heart happy the whole time.
SPEAKER_01He was just perfect, choice.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and he surprised me on numerous occasions with like some of the things he was saying. Because he said to like, there'll be no jokes, no lads, I won't be making jokes, I don't do that. And I was like, All right. Like, we don't need to like wise cracking. He was like, it's very serious, then and then everyone'd been like, Oh, he's very holy. He's very holy. And I'm like, Okay, I get it, he's holy, bro. Like, yeah. So we came in and he like cracked like five jokes on the wedding day, and I was like, You're perfect. Yes. He came in and he was like, Queen Meve, and I was like, Just call me Queen Mave! I was like, Oh my god! It was like and Prince Charming, so it's really wholesome.
SPEAKER_01He's such a yeah, such a personal face as well. It's very, very like thought, you thought everything through. He did, and he was stunning.
SPEAKER_02So, yeah, uh yeah, long story. We'll go into my one day we'll do like a full spiel of like wedding days, but I don't want to like drill for ages.
SPEAKER_01But um, but it's it's so lovely, and like, yeah, the prep was obviously a lot because you were both doing it yourselves. Your mum and your auntie, like, yeah, I say this to everybody.
SPEAKER_02If you're doing a destination wedding, I say destination, it's everyone has a destination wedding because everyone has to travel to it anyway.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, of course.
SPEAKER_02Um, but you need someone on the ground to do half that work for you. So my auntie was going around checking this. I had to do food tasting, which was amazing, and like obviously the owner, because knew everyone gave us unbelievable you wouldn't believe that we felt like celebrities just because you knew him. So it was fun, it was stunning, and I owe a lot to him for a lot of my wedding. Thank you very much. It was amazing.
SPEAKER_01Um, and you know, you'd probably look at my wedding and be like, they spent hundreds of millions that just didn't like because I made a lot of my own all yourself, and like even down to the favours, like I will always talk about your favors, they are so cute. Like they literally had photos of them with the person, and on the back, John and me have both individually wrote a note to each person. There's like 128 guests. Like, what you did that for every single person, and then they tied the little New Jersey transit ticket to it. I forgot about live with the QR code that you used for like adding photos to the Dropbox and stuff. You have great photos, thank you very much. No, thank you.
SPEAKER_00My photos are really there, like five, it was awesome. It was very cool.
SPEAKER_01Um, but it was so, so personal, and that's just like a testament to you two. Like you both are such like people, people. Like you want to champion everyone in your life as much as you want to champion your love. And it's such a like you won't realise how like rare that is. Like, not many weddings like do that. Like it was so personal, and like you made everyone feel like a part of it. And like that is super special.
SPEAKER_02Well, that was the thing. We've only ever been to one other wedding before our own. And we remember looking at each other and being like, oh, two. And I remember looking at each other and being like, if someone asks us what our theme is, yeah, personal. Like, I don't care what anyone says, like personal, then they they I'm not gonna get them like party favours of like stuff like alcohol that they'll just sit or like a candle that they won't use. Yeah. There's no point in wasting money on that. So you might as well craft. I spent like I use Snapfish, so I spent like maybe 40 pounds on our however many photos.
SPEAKER_00Because you got a stack, let's put it on the phone. Yeah, I did get a stack. I got like one of the biggest stacks. You got a very big bigger than Isabella, it was bullshit.
SPEAKER_02Like big stack of photos from Chloe.
SPEAKER_01But we just photograph well together. Yeah, we do, we do.
SPEAKER_02And um, so everyone got like a stack and a note, and then um like VistaPrint saved my life. If anyone's ever like, hey, what was your like welcome boards, VistaPrint? Um, like, uh I what did I do? We did like Our Favourite People. I went and got a mirror online for£40, and then got a sticker on Etsy that was like Our Favourite People. You can do all of this stuff. So the days before my wedding, when we landed in Ireland, I was just like so calm because the lead up was hopeful. There was some bits, guys, I was crying about wedding licenses, and we had to go to Ireland and get a green license, and they were like, hi, there's a one-year wait list because John's American. I was like, What? And then obviously we had people call because everyone in Ireland knows each other. Yeah. So it was amazing to be like, hey Brenda, can you just go call? And they called and it was dealt with immediately. So like it really, if honestly, if I did it somewhere else and I couldn't get the marriage license the way it was supposed to be done, like the civil part, the really important you cannot get married without this piece of paper, yeah, which we got. So it was, and they had to interview me and John separately to make sure that we were legit and that we made news about each other. And I was like, we didn't know that was coming. And he went out of the room and I was like, fuck! Like so stressed out. Um, but it was it was cute, and the woman was lovely, and there was like, but you know, they're firm, they have to be firm, they have to check to make sure you're you're both legit in order to get married in Ireland. Um, but it was amazing. A quick one for all of you guys before we go in to talking about American V UK and whatever Irish weddings. Bridesmaid dresses. Yes. So uh Elida once said to me, Elida went, Maeve, I will be your bridesmaid because I don't, you know, whatever. I was like, I'm not paying for your bridesmaid dresses, but I'll do you'll pay for your hair and makeup because obviously, like that just feels the right thing to do. You're you're you guys put clocked on to a really like 24-hour shift, basically. That's why you take the piss. Um and so basically everyone at my wedding, the wedding started at the ceremony began at 2 p.m. Yes. And the bridesmaids, you best believe, were in my room from uh 6 a.m. We were starting at 6 a.m. And then we had and then we went all the way until 3am. So while we partied late until the light the night, which I was oh, 4am, John's pointing to me, but it was absolutely the longest, very normal in Ireland. The weddings just go on and on and on. That was so exciting. Which we'll talk about. But the bridesmaids' dresses, um, Elida said to me, I'm gonna buy my own dress even if I wasn't your bridesmaid. And I was like, Oh, that's a great way to go about it. Like, you're going to buy a dress for a wedding anyway, you know. So, anyway, so I was like, Let me see, like this is kind of the style, guys. Like, oh have a look. My mum went into TK Maxx and she was looking for like a random her dress for herself. This is in like February, and uh, she's like, Oh, that's a burnt orange dress that looks a lot like a rewritten dress. Oh, she pulls it out, it's satin, it's disgustingly beautiful. She's like, Oh mate, we're all out at a meeting, do you remember? Yeah. And she's taken a picture and she's been like, look at this. I was like, Oh, just grab it. She goes, It's£25. I said, Amazing, just grab it, grab it. Grab it. And then she goes, Weird. Just found a second one. I said, Oh, this is getting oh this is getting creepy now. And then she pulled six. She pulled six satin burnt orange dresses, like God Himself had been like, yo, yeah, here they are. Here they are.£25 each they all spent just because why? Why were they in TK Maxx rewritten bridesmaids' dresses there? They had tiny threads that needed to be pulled from the bottom and they couldn't be sold. Disgusting, but I don't care. No, so it doesn't matter how they were able to turn to my bridesmaids and go, right, you don't have to choose these dresses. If you don't think the style works for you, don't do it. Because in my head, I was like, everyone can choose their own style that works for them. Chloe was first to try hers on. Yeah. It looked like it was made for you. It was just stunning on you.
SPEAKER_01It was like one of the most beautiful dresses I've ever worn. It was stunning on you.
SPEAKER_02And the slip just worked, and then your heels on top were disgusting. Because we wore like gold with it as well. You should look like a drinker.
SPEAKER_01All of us, that dress was just such a and the colour.
SPEAKER_02When I saw, but it worked on every single one of you. Like every single one, from the palest person, which I think was Lauren, to um Elido who's Turkish. Just it fucking worked on all of you. You all looked stunning. And it was so cool. And when I saw it on you, I went, okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Everyone should pretty much. So you spent£25 on your brushes.£25 on, and it was like the most gorgeous dress. And like we could definitely wear them again. I'm wearing I'm wearing one of them. Yeah, you know, because you had five bridesmaids, so you got one. I got one of them, I'll take that. Thank you, I'll have it. But no, they were so and like what are the chances that your mum was just there?
SPEAKER_02It was it was crazy. So we're like, that's a big story that we always talk about. Bridesmaid dresses, go to TK Maxx, have a browse. Just have a browse. And also, like, it doesn't matter. Like, you can find it doesn't matter. I was just very lucky. I realized I just looked at all of them. I was like, everyone probably thinks everyone spent fucking book. I was like, no, no, but they loved me though. It was just great. I was so happy. And like the photos of my wedding, so everything was sunning. Yeah. And it was one of the best days. And I am fully aware and think about it all the time. Uh, I just cried my eyes out when it came. No one spoke to me about the come down. So really John had to step up as a husband for like three weeks after my wedding because I just sat eating wedding cake watching Bacoff crying.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, of course. Um because it is like I mean, you've literally prepped for almost a year for like that like weekend of like, and it was so incredible. You're so excited. But then it like it ends and you go home and you're like your dress.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01And everything gets put away. Obviously, you've got your gifts look through, and and then that kind of brings a second wave of like excitement, but then it's also like oh, this means it's over. And like obviously you've got the extra ring now. Like that's like the thing you would you take back. But that's the only thing that changes is that you get like the you know, wife. And then everyone, it's just like the way everyone spoke about it afterwards.
SPEAKER_02Like it's just the way everyone was like, I was the most you know, when you hear that people like had a good time, that's all you want. It was like magical or like beautiful, and you're just kind of like, that is like all I wanted because if I'm feeling that, if I'm feeling that this is like everyone's loving that and I'm having a beautiful time and everyone else is experiencing it, like my dad said he cried the whole thing everyone there was a lot of crying. A lot of crying, loads of people were crying at different parts throughout the day. I don't think Irene Fink stopped crying all day, which was really cute. I was like, it's okay, Queen, like I'm here. I cried, dad cried, dad said he balled like the whole day. Um and I think I was giving my speech to him at one point. I said, Look at me. Yeah. And he just was like, I'm here, I can't, I'm looking at you. I will cry. And mum didn't read her note on the back until the next day, and nor did my uncle because they were like really worried they were gonna cry. So I owe a lot to my auntie, my mom, everybody who like stuck in, my bridesmaids, everyone did amazing. Yeah, it's gorgeous. And I loved it, and I miss it every day.
SPEAKER_01I know, I do too. I miss I miss like prepping for it, and then like it was such a good and like the weekend as well, because like this will get us into talking about different like structures of weddings because you had like your the night before in the pub, just like everyone, like guys, it was like come if you did like meal, like it was like the like meal, but you was in a pub and it was just like a like kind of a welcome, it wasn't as it wasn't a rehearsal dinner at all. It was more so just like uh everyone's here, like everyone people have flown in, all that kind of stuff. So you had that like gorgeous night before. Yeah, obviously, we then went to bed because we had to get up. Got up so early.
SPEAKER_02And I remember staring, I we had to steam everyone's dresses because I asked the buyer's maid to give me the dresses. So I was up steaming the dresses really late.
SPEAKER_01And then obviously we started quite early, and then the Sunday you had that gorgeous like after party. Yeah, after party, which was like in a in an Irish like pub, a music venue, and like you had like the the band playing. I didn't pay for him, no, it was just there, and it was so good. It was sick, but it was so good because it kept it going as well because like everyone had such an amazing time, but then obviously we were out until like four or five a.m. But like we wanted it to keep going. So then this was such a nice, like, and you had like the little like Zuri drinks and like the little foods and whatever. So we had like that extra night. We were dancing all night and it was really cute. Um but like if you think then about the year, yeah, America. Let's get into this. Like we you have your rehearsal dinner, which is a very, very important part of their like wedding weekend.
SPEAKER_02I realized that I so I had a I didn't have an Irish wedding, but I I had an Irish package. So like what would be considered like an I don't think I had an English wedding, but I'm not you know, it was one of them. Maybe it's getting married in Ireland, she's not having an Irish wedding, but she's having the standard way that an Irish way it would work. Yeah, of course. In England, I don't know if it's like that. Because in America, they have this is where I'm really curious as how this is gonna go. Yeah. There was a rehearsal, there's a rehearsal dinner. Yeah. I had a rehearsal at the church. Yeah. Because that was oh, guys, another day. That was shit show, wasn't it, Queen?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was, but it was funny. Like, we were all just like, we know we'll be fine, but like this is my mom's shelter. We were like, We were all getting shouted at.
SPEAKER_02Not by the priest, not good, no, not by the priest. No, not but everyone else. It was just like, we were like, uh this is gonna be an absolute joke. Like the groomsmen couldn't get their shit together. The pride says we're like, what is actually going on?
SPEAKER_00We're like in the wrong order, like half the time.
SPEAKER_02We were just standing there, like, tell me what to do. So we had um, but it all worked on the day, wasn't it? It did. It'll be alright on the day, as I said. It'll be alright on the day. So we had the rehearsal dinner, we had the rehearsal thing, and then afterwards we went to like welcome drinks, which was super chill, like, hey, welcome, these are half the crowd. I read today that a rehearsal dinner in America, we we Googled it, is a formal introduction of the two families. Yeah. Own it's quite private. Um didn't even cross my mind.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, I think that's like the tradition of it. I think it's like because maybe, you know, the two families don't live close by always, or it's more so just like so like the extended family as well are like meeting before the wedding day. I think is what it used to be. Right. But now, I mean, when I went to my sister-in-law's like rehearsal dinner, it was it was so lovely, but it was like, you know, just round tables, and there was I think most of the people with most of the people that were there, you know, were going to the wedding. So it was like a So it was extended then? Yeah, yeah. It was like Was there speeches? I don't know if there was there was, yeah, a little bit, like just like a like one or two. Like a drive. Yeah, just like it was um was it Bill's dad. I can't remember, but it was it was a speech of just like a welcome. Or was it Bill and Sam? Might have been Bill and Sam, I can't remember actually now. But it was more so just like a welcome everyone, like you know, we're so happy to have you here. Like enjoy like you know, this night. We can't wait to see you tomorrow. Yeah, but it was like a sit-down, it was a food, it was buffet, but it was like a food of you know, like we sat down on tables and stuff. And then when I went to the um the Texas wedding, it was really similar as well. Like they don't dance um best friends from school. Like it was like the the night before you sat there, we had the rehearsal. I mean, they had the rehearsal whatever in the church, and then um, yeah, you go and like there are like the round tables, kind of like wedding style, but in like a smaller part of like a venue or so even then you still have the rehearsal, because I didn't know you had to rehearse at the church.
SPEAKER_02I I didn't know that was a thing until it was happening.
SPEAKER_01I think it's a maybe um I don't know, Catholic thing too. I think Catholic weddings were. Or maybe they need like a Yeah, because when we went to Sam's um like my sister-in-law's rehearsal, it was she was a Catholic, it was a Catholic church too. So we had to be then practice with everyone and with you know, um the priest and all of that stuff.
SPEAKER_02And so then after a rehearsal dinner, you have welcome drinks where you could probably possibly open that up to other people, which I think is what happening in some of the weddings that I'm going to this year. And then uh like John kind of kind of doesn't eye roll at it, but he's just like uh you know the general uh timings for a wedding in America are six to eight hours. Yeah. That's short. So short.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's really because like that's a that's a standard across America, apparently. It is, it's like a lot of I mean most of the weddings that I know of of like, you know, American friends have started at like 5 p.m. So the ceremony would be at like four or five pm. And then you have like the hour of ceremony, and then you know, you're gonna have your photos and whatever, and then you're not in the venue till seven, and then it goes until like ten.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's weird, isn't it? But it finishes early. But they have an after party. Yeah. Some people have an after party, yeah. Most of mine. And some of then also that's one thing that I kept doing is that I to the Americans I had a wedding website. That's the best thing I ever. I fucking love my wedding website. Yes. But on there was like events, and then all the Americans were texting me. First off, a lot of them couldn't understand to John why um they were like, What time does your wedding finish? And he was like, and then the thing is that like till 3am, and they were like, What? Yeah. And I it was amazing because a lot of them were like, What the fuck is that? And then uh, but they were like, sorry, when's your after party happening? I was like, oh, that's happening the next day at 1 pm. And they go, I don't understand. I said, What's confusing? Yeah. So I had to I had to break down and John and me had to figure out what the after party meant to them because their after party could be at 11 pm on the day of their wedding. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know?
SPEAKER_01I get what you mean. What? Yeah, no, I get you, I get you. Because like, yeah, after party, so it would be like your ceremony, then you have like the reception or the the wedding party, and then an after party straight after. Whereas yours, you just you know classed as the wedding like the ceremony and then like the wedding. Yeah, yeah. Because yours just continued because you had like your dinner and then you had like night guests pulling up and then disco. Yes, and then disco video disco and then like you did the end times three because you had the space. You had like your pub as well.
SPEAKER_02But this is what I'm saying. There was no extra cost to have it open. No. That I paid for the venue. Sorry, I didn't pay for the venue. You pay for the you pay per person. So you're not, I'm like, you know, uh in New Jersey, for example, yeah, we read that it is fifty-four thousand dollars for a possible, you know, you can obviously get cheaper than that, yeah. But that's kind of a ballpark. Ballpark for the and if you want to know Massachusetts, 40 to 60. Now, that's venue pending.
SPEAKER_01I think what it is, I think it's a lot to do with like liquor licenses and stuff.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And I think a lot of venues might not have them past a certain time.
SPEAKER_02Weddings you went to, open bar, most of them. Americans do open bar, actually. Yeah, yes. Very cool. But also you that's how you lose a lot of money, I assume. Because the venue's probably saying, Hey, we do this, uh, and you're gonna have to lose. 14k on a bar, and you're like, I like also that's a good way for your guests to get absolutely bladdered.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, of course. Um I thought I've heard of some people doing like discounted drinks. I know at your wedding, like the um the wines were free then. Any of the wine that wasn't used for the tables, right? They they put behind the bar. And they're like, You got wine. That was really like, yeah, that was really helpful. And the tech but the Texas wedding I went to um was an open bar for an hour. So it was like a uh like one hour.
SPEAKER_00Get out of it! Literally, it was just like, go, go, go, oh my god, that's it. Which is like so it's a good idea, but it is like maybe it's for an hour. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I feel like a lot of weddings in the US like kind of strive to have like an open bar. I think like I think it's like you know, one of the like parents like a yeah, exactly. But I think it's one of the gifts that like parents tend to like give is like I'll pay for the I'll pay for the bar. Because it's not about having a good time. Can I get four margaritas? Yeah, like they can't say no. No, because they'd just be able to give you anything. So yeah, and I think that's quite a custom for but it's not custom over here at all. No, not in the island either. No, no, no.
SPEAKER_02Like you're paying for your drinks. You're you're paying for your drinks. Like you want like the amount of um, what did they say at my wedding? The they nearly drank us dry Guinness. Yeah. We nearly drank them dry. The Americans, obviously, guys, I don't care what anyone says, you can fight me on this right now, and you cannot speak to my very intense husband who's got a lot of thoughts about it. The Guinness in America is the worst. It doesn't travel well. No. So when they came over here, I went, hey, pre-warning, you're about to have the best Guinness of your life. Yes. I think Chris said he drank over 170 pints of Guinness across the three, across the four. He said 200 across across two weeks. Two weeks of oh my god. So like at my wedding, my dad was on Guinness, everyone was on Guinness. Even I was on Guinness, and I don't know. John was on Guinness. The boys, I think everyone just pounded the bar. Because it's so good, it's like water. It is, it's so good. So quickly, the Guinness Gate. Um the Guinness Gate. The Guinness Gate, where we nearly ran everyone outs Kalani. Um, that Tim, obviously the best man, uh, was everyone was on wine, everyone had wine in front of them, so you get to pick between red or white. Do you have white? Yeah. Yeah, you're a white girl like me, I don't do the red. And uh John, I think, had red for it in front of him, and uh he took a sip and he was like, No, can I get a coffee? Yeah, so we had was given a coffee, and then he was like, and then they were like, anything else for you, John? What do you want? He was like, I'll just take a Guinness, please, I'll just have a Guinness. I think we got our drinks free, which I didn't realise either. He was like, I'll have a Guinness. And then and then Tim was like, dude, you're having Guinness, what are you doing? Like, you just wine in front of you, and he was like, Brother, I'm telling you right now, the wine will make me go like drink like pretty quickly get drunk. Oh yeah. Tim had a sip of his wine and he was like, Yeah, I know you're right. We're going Guinness. So everyone was on Guinness for a regular game. Yeah, of course. Um, like that is that is interesting because I'm going to a few weddings. You've been to more Americans than I more American weddings than I have been. Uh yeah, how many have I been to now? Considering last year you had the most how many bloody weddings you had last year. That was a good one. It was glorious.
SPEAKER_00I loved last year. It was love. You love love. Love love. We love love.
SPEAKER_01We're pointing at our pointing at pointing at our love shirts because we do love love. And it was so fun. I did five last year and it was incredible. Is mine the second last one or the last one? Yours second to last. Yeah. Yeah, because I had um Catching Carter's wedding in uh November. It was so cute. But yeah, second to last. But it was so much fun, and like, yeah, I just I love, yeah, it's but it is so different. I didn't have any American ones last year. No, you had your Wales. I had mostly Welsh weddings.
SPEAKER_02Um Irish wedding. Do you think they're expensive? Because obviously Wales would be now to me if I was thinking about getting married in the UK. You're gonna look at Wales, of course. You really are, because they've got the castles, you actually got like places near the Gower, you've just got loads of places. Yeah, of course. But it does depend on your venue. It depends on how it does. Like they could do you based off being like, you want to get married in a castle? Here you go. However, I do feel it is who you know. Yeah. So if you start playing the game, if you wanted to get married in like a castle somewhere, you could pull a favour. Because it's who you know, Claire. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01No way it is. And I think that's that's like, yeah, well, if I was to get married, like have a big wedding in Wales, I would obviously know more people there. For sure. But I don't know if I know that many people in wedding venues because I think the wedding venues, the price of them have just hiked up over the last. Do you think that's American influence? Oh, absolutely. I think because like the the big weddings are American. And like I think there's a lot more pressure now on like your dress and like what theme are you having, and like what are you you know, like how many guests are you bringing, and like where are you going? Like it can't be too similar to someone else's, or it can't be this, can't be that. And I think there's a lot of yeah, a lot of that kind of thing. I also think TikTok is ruining weddings. Oh, yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_02It's making you think that you have to do this. Also, I was like in the morning, how do people have time to do TikToks in the morning when you're getting your hair ready?
SPEAKER_01Because we had so many plans to do like all do TikToks.
SPEAKER_02I was like, actually, we have guys, we have no time. Get in the car. Yeah, we're going. And I remember looking at the thing, I was like, they're Americans because the Americans have time. Because they don't start till early. And they still do it all.
SPEAKER_01They still get like ready early ish. They probably get ready.
SPEAKER_02They're in that room till nine.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for Sam's, like, we got ready, I think it was like 10, 9 or 10. You're still getting ready at that. Still we weren't going until like three or four or five. Like it was later.
SPEAKER_02But um, yeah, there's nothing. This is what I want to like drill home as well. Is like I to to certain people, I had a medium-sized wedding to small. Yeah. So I went to my friend Nazifa's wedding, she's Bengali. She had 700 people in this venue, and I remember being like, How in God's name have you done this? Now that was expensive wedding. Wow. Also, she looked absolutely breathtaking. Of course. So that to me is like the biggest wedding I've ever been to. And so I I look at the weddings I'm going to, maybe the same numbers, but I have no idea until maybe a bit bigger. But American weddings to me are huge, but they're also wildly more expensive, and I don't know why. Yeah. Like, is it the open bar? Is it the venues they're taking the piss? Because also, don't get me wrong, I was quoted some stuff the minute you say bridal. So I stopped saying bridal. Yeah. So I just went on to Etsy and I was like, right, no. And then I just made my own because I'm not paying someone to fleece me because I'm a bride. That's not true. That's fair. Yeah, the wedding tax, essentially. Where do you exactly made up tax? The money exists. It's not. I worked extra hours to try and get little things that I wanted, me and John wanted for our way. We pull together, save to try and get these little things because you don't need I keep saying to everyone, if you need something, tell me I will get stuff shipped to you because you can do it all yourself. Of course you can. Like everything can be done yourself, crafts-wise.
SPEAKER_01It's just like we had such a like strong vision as well of what we wanted. And so you were able to just chase that. And like, yeah, a lot of it was stuff that you could get without saying that it was for a wedding. Like you could like it. You have to. As soon as you say that word, it's like you book like a haul, like a you know, like a workman's hall, like I did for my wedding party. But I love Clubby's wedding. It was it was cute. It was like a nice little after party like the year later. But we I mean, I got it, I knew the people, but like, but if I know it and I said this is gonna be our like wedding reception, there would have been so much more. And like, say for the buffet I got, like they would have been like, oh, if I was sat in like that, this is for a wedding, it would have been crazy. Because we did like a combination of like Dan coming to the UK and wedding party, so we could kind of use like the Dan I just said it for more.
SPEAKER_02The cheapest drinks I've ever eaten at a wedding in my life. We got smashed on three pound drinks. It was absolutely good good drinks, hello. It was very good drinks, but it was like tonapan.
SPEAKER_01A double vodka and like cork would be like, yeah, no less than that. It'd be like 260,£3. It was so sound. We might be like£190.
SPEAKER_00Someone coming up to me with a Nicroni or some shape is like, this costs seven pounds. Like for doing this.
SPEAKER_01I know. My cousin Amy, I love her so much. She's such a like, she's definitely like karma now, but she's such a party girl at heart. We call her heavy pour because she always like pours. Heavy pour like a heavy pour of drinks. She went, somehow went downstairs in this workman's club and came back up with two spoon-style pictures of cocktails.
SPEAKER_00And it was like, I was like, how did where did you get that from? And she had straw in each of them, and she was like, like between them both. And she was like, I asked them to make them for me, and they did.
SPEAKER_01And that, yeah, yeah, this is like they cost her like eight quid for these two, like these two pictures. I just love them. And she just told, she said, I just told them how to make it.
SPEAKER_00So she told the person, like the probably the teenage boy downstairs, how to make these like spoons, like a blue lagoon cocktail downstairs, and he did it for her. And like, probably didn't know what to charge us, just went, Oh, there you go, have them for this one. I just the vision of her like walking back up with both jugs.
SPEAKER_01They made them for me.
SPEAKER_00It's like, okay, so good.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, that's so funny.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, if we told them that was for a wedding, they would have definitely you know what we should do.
SPEAKER_02If we bring the boys on, we have to talk about our weddings. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So funny.
SPEAKER_01And like different insights as well, because like we might you know we kind of have more of a clear wedding idea, maybe, because we've only we thought about them all our lives. I've got a Pinterest board.
SPEAKER_02Been like very heavily involved. Final question before we go into receptacles for you. We all know what you're like. We all our friendship group knows that Chloe's like the princess of the group. You I know one day you want your big princess wedding. Do you still want your big princess wedding? Like, is that still in your card somewhere down the line? Absolutely. Good. I can't.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. Because I and also it was only made like the desire was made like stronger by seeing your wedding and like going through like you know the planning with you and like hearing all these words.
SPEAKER_02I was like, I want it. I want it so bad. You do know, you do know what's gonna happen, don't you? I'm going to run your wedding. Oh, absolutely. I expect the headset. I no don't even fucking know. Monica fueled by then. Because I miss I miss it. Yeah, I mean. Like I will turn round, don't know, it was stressful, but I will probably be like, Shaz, meet, can you have a Zoom call with me? I want to run through this. Like, I just want to I just want to run through how we're gonna do this. Whether or not I'm heavily involved, I will make myself. Oh, you are going to be heavily involved. No pen and nothing will go wrong. You want me to make you shit? I'll make you shit. You want me to get Amy to make you shit? I'll don't get Amy to make you shit.
SPEAKER_01The team I'm gonna have is gonna be like the Avengers. Going is gonna be Assemble. I'm so I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I can't wait to share all these Pinterest boards and just have like because also like we didn't we didn't get into like hens and stuff, but like I want a hen. Oh, we have to do that.
SPEAKER_02I want my all of that. I want it all. We'll go into my hen another day because the girl is all out for my hens. It was stunning and I loved it so much. So we will do that. Um wait. Uh thank you for our wedding chat. Also, like, can we I I'm guys when Chloe fucking gets her big wedding, like, oh god, I'm gonna we're gonna document it. I'm gonna actually have someone walk around with a microphone. You're like, okay, so she's walking down the aisle. It's gonna be an episode.
SPEAKER_00I love it. It's gonna be so great.
SPEAKER_02I can't wait. But everyone is getting married this year. Stay strong, take a deep. Oh my god. Yes. It's going to be okay. You've got it. You have it. Enjoy every minute. Because there's it's true what they say, it goes so fast. Yeah. And but like, I remember it like it was yesterday. I can close my eyes and can see everything. I also didn't get plastered. I made it goal to be like, no, of course, because you remember everything. But I like made sure to be like, no. And also when we danced so much that you're sweating it out.
SPEAKER_01Of course. Literally. You have to like pound some water so you can keep dancing. Yeah, you want to be going all night. It wasn't the same. But it was so so good. Tell us your receptacle because I can't keep staring at it. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Look. Um, so my receptacle this week is a beauty and the beast, like plastic, I don't know, like a kind of like an ice coffee cup with straw. But inside there is a rose. Guys, it's and it's a red rose, green stem. From where I went. And I still have look, I still have a tag on it. Is it beauty and the beast related? Yeah, it is. It says uh beauty is found within on the front. And yes, you when you feel like you got a drink. I think I honestly think it was something like Pri Mark or something. Primark, eh? Yeah, I think so. Primark. But like literally how much I love it, I have not taken any of the tags off. You are the stuff. It's flawless. And um it's got like a the tag still attaching the straw to the whole thing. But I love it so much, and I just thought this is very like because I know when I have my big wedding it's gonna be heavily Beauty and the Beast.
SPEAKER_00Like A oh yeah. Would you have roses? Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01There you go. Love flowers. When you see my Pinterest board girl, I'm not having a Disney wedding. Absolutely not. But the little tiny like flourishes are going to be. Just a quick question.
SPEAKER_02Because you had dark uh lipstick on your wedding and only you could do that. Like fucking only you could do that.
SPEAKER_01I couldn't, I if I wear like lighter lipstick, I look like so pale. No, it was perfect on you. It was perfect. And they would the colour was rose.
SPEAKER_00It was like dusty rose or something. Stunning. I had velvet teddy on mine, so it was. Oh, velvet teddy. I fucking fought for velvety.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. Um but it was stunning. I love it. Unreal. So yeah, that's mine.
SPEAKER_02What is yours, Billy? John is looking at me, beaming, because he knows how pumped I am about Chloe's possible wedding coming.
SPEAKER_00Janny, if we could just speech another. I'd take it. Anytime soon.
SPEAKER_02No, no, seriously, I'm not kidding. I'll fucking be able to do that. I have one of the best gifts I've been given. I'm basically wearing everything Chloe got me for my birthday. Um she got me this most stunning mug ever. It says High Lords and Wingleaders Book Club. Guys, if you I re- I fucking also said when she gave it to me, it said, cannot use the dishwasher. Yeah. It cannot be the dishwasher. So I screamed at Johnby, like, don't put it in the dishwasher. No, it's he hasn't. He hasn't. No, and a hand wash only. It's everything. And when I saw it, I cried, and I'll actually show you the video. She handed it to me in this room. Yeah. And there's a video of us losing. I'll show you right now. Here. Yeah. We're losing the plot in this. So um and it's such a good size. It's a perfect size.
SPEAKER_01When I saw it, I was like, this is the most perfect thing I've ever seen. Like I just I instant buy. I think I bought it months ago. I just wanted to. Because you're a smart bitch.
SPEAKER_02You knew I'd love it. Yeah, absolutely. And it's everything I High Lord and Wing. Yeah, I know. You bought books as well out of my face.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_02It's all cute. I've just shut my notebook, but I'm so ready to continue to talk about this. Like so nonstop.
SPEAKER_01I feel like there was way more than we planned.
SPEAKER_02Do you know what we should bring we should bring the boys on and we should do a like a wedding like debrief. That would definitely hear their debrief as well.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and this side of the story and like the things that they might have seen that we didn't like. Yeah, because the boys see things differently, don't they?
SPEAKER_02Of course. And also they like, they do let us plan. Yeah. But also, Danny, know that I will be planning your wedding with Chloe. Wherever that baby, where however many years that may be down the road, you need to know that I'm going to be on your off. Absolutely. Well, you have the experience. No, I'm kidding. I love it so much. But also, that's our stories. So I love it. I can't wait.
SPEAKER_01I hope everyone's weddings this year are magical and as perfect as ours were.
SPEAKER_02I already, I keep seeing the fucking you fall crossing and touching down the shoulder. I can't talk about it. Like you have to. If you're gonna share it one day, you have to please share it with the.
SPEAKER_01Oh, with the oh, you're talking about first look, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I can't. I like hate first looks, but that was one of the most I cried. I can't talk about it. It gets real fuzzy. John's already feeling it as well. I can't. It's okay, we'll show it off camera. Thank you all so much, guys. I love you. Bye. Bye
