In this episode of The Faith of the Fathers, Karl Gessler discusses church leadership, church scandal, and the growing “exposure culture” within modern Christianity. Drawing from recent controversies surrounding ministries like Bethel Church and leaders such as Bill Johnson, Karl examines the increasing tendency of believers to tear down entire ministries and permanently disqualify pastors when failures or controversies arise.

While accountability and truth matter deeply in the church, a culture of constant exposure and condemnation can become destructive. Many Christians are quick to attack leaders, ministries, and movements without realizing they may be cutting off the very branch they are sitting on.

Karl explores the dangers of modern exposure culture, the rise of deconstruction among Millennials, and the spiritual damage that occurs when criticism replaces humility, mercy, and restoration.

The power of the Gospel is grace, not exposure. Exposure may stop the immediate evil of a perpetrator, but grace is what brings true healing and restoration.

The Gospel does more than expose sin — it restores the broken, heals the wounded, and calls sinners to repentance. If the church is going to experience true revival, it must learn to hold leaders accountable without abandoning mercy and grace.
