SPEAKER_00

Hello, my name is Nicole Baker. I'm the treasurer and secretary with the Creating Hope Society of Alberta.

SPEAKER_01

Nicole, congratulations. You're this week's community champion with Art Station. How does it make you feel? Getting recognized, being supported, getting celebrated.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, we can't thank enough. Like we our our staff and our board, we're so committed to supporting Indigenous communities with cultural supports, programming, POWAW nights, and to be recognized a community and ch community champion is just amazing. It's it's why we do the work is for the community.

SPEAKER_01

So tell our listeners what is Creating Hope Society.

SPEAKER_00

So Creating Hope Society of Alberta, we're um we're in our 20th years of operations. We were set up um in 2006 after um a conference about um 60 scoop survivors. So it was about the children that had, you know, been removed through child welfare and never maybe returned back to their family or lost that culture and that connection to their family through the child welfare system. So that was the initial, you know, driver to start the society, and then since then we've evolved into creating different programs, partnering with other community agencies, and just helping reach communities where they are from children, youth, and their families and caregivers.

SPEAKER_01

Nicole, what excites you about your position? So you're the secretary and treasurer with the organization.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, it's great. Being on the board, we hope we get to help set the direction of the society. We're always looking for partners and contributors, sponsors who want to be a part of the organization and just see through the visions and the goals that we're trying to achieve. So we get to see how the communities are and the programs are having a positive impact, and then how we can continue growing that and through other relationships.
