SPEAKER_02Hi, my name is Diane Mealy, and I'm Kree Hodnoshone and the president and founder of Skydancer Indigenous Cultural Center and Art Gallery in Spruce Grove.
SPEAKER_01Congratulations, Diane. You're this week's community champion. How does it make you feel getting recognized by the community?
SPEAKER_02A little strange. I'm the um a guide on the side, not the sage on the stage. And uh I just do what I do. I'm at that time in my life as a up-and-coming elder that I'm not giving to myself so much as giving to other people. And I love it when people come to Skydancer and feel connected, feel welcome, feel included. That's what it's all about. Community means uh the heart and feeling belonging and creating, when you get more than one person, you know, two people together, it's like you create a third mind. What people bring to the circle has a life of its own, and you gain ideas, things you probably never thought about. And the Hodan Ashone have a uh saying, let us bring our hearts and minds together to create something beautiful, something good.
SPEAKER_01Speaking about uh beautiful and something good, tell me a little more up and coming community events that's happening here with the organization. Oh, have you got a day?
SPEAKER_02We've got so much going on. Then we're moving right into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women's Uh Memorial Walk. Then we have the Moose Hide Campaign, then we have uh NIPD and sprinkled in that, we have T and Bannock with an Elder once a month. We have a talking circle, we have workshops, ribbon make ribbon skirt making, drum making, rattle making, and uh yes, and we're becoming land based, so we will have a tourism indigenous experience coming on this spring and summer. This has been the Windspeaker Radio Network Community Champion of the Week.
